CONTAINING The substance of all Informations received in cases of Felony and of Misdemeanors of an aggravated nature, end against Receivers of Stolen Goods, reputed Thieves, and Offenders escaped from Custody, with the time, the place, and the circumstance of the Offence. The Names of Persons charged with Offences who are known but not in custody, and a Description of those who are not known, their Appearance, Dress, and other marks of Identity. The Names of Accomplices and Accessories, with every particular which may lead to their Apprehension. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of ( he offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As BO charge is made for the insertion of any article in the I'OLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor aiUSt be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters tnd Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from the regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Offica, Pall Mall, London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. INFORMATIONS. FORGERY. Absconded from Ross, about the 27th ultimo: EDWIN JAMES YATES, woolstapler, charged with forgery : he is about 5 feet 10 inches high, well made, with bold open countenance, erect carriage, " and confident manner, florid com- plexion, dark brown bushy hair, inclining to curl, dark and expressive eyes, full moustache, no beard or whiskers, oval face, rather high lorehead ; usually dresses well, and is of very respectable appearance, and good adcress; is fond of music and singing, and has a good tenor voice. A reward of £ 50 will be paid to any person who will give such information aB will lead to his apprehension by the Gloucestershire Banking Company, at Ross. Information to be, given to Superintendent Cope, Ross, Herefordshire, who holds a warrant for his appre- hension.— Bow- street, June 14. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Oil the afternoon of the 8th ultimo, the body of a new- born female child was found in the dual at Methley, wrapped in an old cotton napkin and a piece of old hemp carpet. At the coroner's inquest, a verdict of ' Wiltul murder against some person or persons at present unknown ' was returned. Stolen from the person of a gentleman at the Pomona Gardens, Old Trafford, about 8- 30 p. m on the 12th instant, a gold hunting Watch, engine- turned cases, with garter, split centre seconds ( double Btop), makers John Hall aud Co , Man- chester, No. 5406, the swivel was also attached to the Watch. £ 10 reward will be paid on the recovery of the property aud conviction of the offender or offenders on application to Super- intendent Bent, Constabulary Office, Old Trafford— Bow- st., June 14. Description of JOHN BRONSOURD, alias VINEGAR, who broke out of the lockup at Congleton, on the 2ud instant', about 6 p m., where he was detained on a charge of robbery with violence at Somerford Park, on the 18th ultimo: ho is 22 years of age, S feet 9 inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair, grey eyes, long features with a sharp look, and is a collier by trade ; dressed, in black cloth cap, dark plaid tweed cloth coat, vest aud trousers, faded brown, aud lace- up boots with brass eyelets. He is known at Macclesfield. Handley, Buslam, Silverdale, Longton and Ridsgrove, and was seen making his way to Longton on the 10th instant. Further information respecting the burglary at the Rev. J. H. Woodhouse's, at Finningley, Nottinghamshire, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 7th instant; two men were seen coming from the place about 3 a. m.: one about 40 years of age, about 5 feet 10 inches high, dark hair ; dressed in dark clothes, and long hat: the other about 30 yeara of age, 6 feet 6 inches high, red or sandy whiskers ; dressed in dark clothes, and brown cap with peak. Information to be given to Superinten- dent Sanford, East Retford, Notts.— Bo'v- street, Jam 14. Stolen by means of burglary from the vicarage at Wisbech St. Mary's, on the night of the 10th instant: a silver Cup, with motto ' All friends round the Wrekin,' forming the shape of a fox's head ; a small Cup and Paten, belonging to a pocket Communion Service; aDd a pair of Sugar Tongs, crest— a man's arm with sword rising out of a coronet; two silver Tea Spoons ; and a small quantity of Tea Two men are suspected : one is about 40 years of age, 6 feet 10 or 11 inches high, dark hair and whiskers slenderly made, bad walker, and dressed in a grty overcoat, full back, and chummy hat; the other is about 33 years of age, 6 ft. 8 ins. high, slight ssndy whiskers, light complexion, and dres- ed in dark coat and'trousers, and chummy hat. They were traced to Peterborough on the 11th instant. Information to tie given to Superintendent Stocking, Elm- road, Wisbeach, Combs.— Bow- street, June 14. Stolen during the night of the 10th instant, from Mrs. Foster, No. 10, Burton- lane, in the township of Clifton, by housebreaking : a large Soup Spoon, crest— stag's hdad and neck ; a long Gravy Spoon, crest— stag's head and neck, and arm with broken spear ; a Table Spoon, crest— stag's liiad and neck, arm and spear; five silver Dessert Spoons, three with the above crest, two plain ; three richly carved Egg Spoons, marked with the letter ' M.;' two Salt Spoons, crest as above; three Tea Spoons, crest— stag's head aud neck ; six Silver Forks, with double crest; one large Silver Cup, richly faced with huntsman and bounds. Information to be given to Superintendent Hunter, North Riding Constabulary, Heworth, York.— Bow- street, June 14. Between 5' 30 and 7' 30 p. m. on the 10th instant, the dwelling- house of Mr. George East, at Wraysbury, Bucks, was entered by means of skeleton keys, and stolen therein: ten silver Tea Spoons, six silver Table ditto, two silver Gravy ditto, and five Dessert ditto, all marked ' C. M. R. ;' and an old- fashioned silver Pepper Castor. Supposed by two men who were seen near the bouse : one about 20 years of age, 6 feet 10 or 11 inches high, brown hair, small brown whiskers and moustache, slender build ; dressed in a short brown jrcket with pockets at the side, bound with black braid, dark trousers, and black deerstalker hat. The other about 40 years of age, 6 feet, 6 or 7 inches high, brown hair, large bro> vn whiskers turning grey and meeting under chin, stout build ; dresstd in a long black frock coat, black trou- ers, and high black hat. Information to be given to Superintendent Dunham, Sl « ugh, or to Inspector Sutton, Iver, Bucks.— Bow- strect, June 14 Further information respecting the burglary at Wrenbury, Cheshire ( advertised iji the Police Gnz- tte of the 4th instant): the two pairs of Boots stolen were men's strong elastic- ides. There were also stolen : a small gold Wedding Ring ; a Keeper Ring, with cornelian stone ; an alpaca Umbrella, with oak handle; a gold Pencil- case, initials ' C. M A.' in purple stone at top ; and a small Pocket Telescope, about 6 or 8 imhes long. Information to be ttiven to Superintendent Laxton, Nantwich, Cheshire.— Bow- street, June 14. At 12 30 a. m., on the 28th ultimo, the dwelling- honsi of Mrs. Elizabeth Young, at Highgate, in the parish of Havk- hurst, was broken and entered, and stolen therein: a pliin gold enamelled- face Watch, No. 4098, maker ' Grant, Fleet- Btreet, London'; a pair of silver Sugar Tongs ; a small old tea Spoon, marked ' E. A. ;' and two pairs of silver- plated Nit- crackers. Between 6 30 and 830 r. m. on the 6< h instant, the dwelling- house of Mrs. Louisa Edmunds, of Peterborough, was entered duriug the absence of the family, and the following property stolen therein : 4 gold Rings : two mourning, one with inscription * Payne Edmunds, Auijust 21st. 1861, aged 84 ye3rsone ditto, inscription inside ' Louis* Edmunds, 24th July, 1838,' outside black enamel ' In memory of;' one gentleman's ring, with white stone and hair. 4 Brooches : one with circle or pearls, hair, and inscription at back Ulysses de Burgh, Dec. 30, 1835, aged 43 years ;' one mourning, oval, figure in hair, inscription ' M. H. one small gold, set with pearls; one smaH gold. 3 silver Tea Spoons, with Lindsey crest— bust of a man, with duke's crown. 1 set of Teeth, by Palmer, gold and ivory. About £ 2 10s. in Money. On the night of the 2nd instant, the dwelling- house of Mr. W. Stolen about 2 a m., 5th instant, from the house of William Oldacre, pawnbroker, of Horsley Heath, in the parish of Tipton, by meins of springing the bar of the shutters and breaking a square of glass, the following property, viz. 2 silver hunting Watches, plain cases. 2 do. verge stamped Cases, small L- tvers. On the night of the 28th ultimo, the house of James Dix labourer, of Flitcham, was brokeu and entered aud severa articles of linen and wearing apparel stolen therein ( since recovered): supposed by JAMES GREEN, a farm labourer, native of Litcham, Nortolk, 26 years of age, 6 feet 8 or 9 inches high, no whiskers, hair on chin, which is of a very light colour, light brown bair, and light complexion ; dressed in a' dark cloth cap, with peak, brown drabbet slop, and trousers of same material, otherwise fustian with two patches on the left leg; he hag worked on public works, also as a bricklayer's | 2 20 1 1 15 12 2 Albert Chains, with silver keys attached. During the night of the 27th ultimo, the rectory house at Wyjneswold, Leicestershire, was burglariously broken and entered through the study room window, and stolen therein: a large old- fashioneH silver Watoh ; a gold gilt Watch Case ; a very small silver Vinaigrette, ' R W.' on the outside ; and about £ 2 in Money ; the property of the Rev. Robert Walker. Information to be given to Superintendent Hayne, Police Station, Loughborough, Leicestershire.— Bow- street, June 7. Stolen by means of housebreaking, between 9 and 12 a. m. on the 3rd instant, the property of Thomas Page, of Herrings- gate, a paisley scarf Shawl, not much worn, two large patterns,, one to fit on each shoulder, one whito, the other blue ; three large size silver T « a Spoons, four small size ditto ; two silver Table Spoons, marked 1T. S. R ' ; a bone Salt Spoon, and four or five pairs of women's white cotton Hose. Supposed by a tramp of the following desciipiion : about 24 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 6 inches high, dark hair and complexion, no beard or whiskers; dressed in dirk blue jacket, dark grey trousers, Scotch cap, and wore clogs with . lit any lips on the heels. June 14. 1 long Case, containing thirteen « r fourteen Geneva of a friendly society, called the Painters'Court of Foresters: Watches, three of which were gold. GEORGE FRENCH, about 48 years of age, about 5 feet 1 ditto ditto, containing twelve or thirteen English Lever ; 7 inches high, sallow complexion, iron grey hair, no whiskers one gold', the others silver. 1 or moustache, and rather stout; a painter and paper hanger. 1 round Case, with eighteen Keepers and two Wedding \ Information to be given to the Chief Constable, Town Hall, Rings. 1 ditto ditto, with about twelve plated Lockets. Supposed to have been stolen on the morning of the Grh instant, from a lane at Woodbridge, the property of Mr. John Franklin, dealer, Woodbridge, a bay roan mure Pony, aged, 11 or 12 hands high, has a large knot on the near knee, and large belly. Information to be given to the Police at Wood- bridge, East Suffolk.— Bow- street, June 14. Stolen on the 4th instant from a fi- Id in the parish of Springfield, the property of Mr. Robert Wilson, of Springfield- lane, tea dealer, a brown mare Pony, 8 years old, 11 hands high, Dotch in one of its ears, supposed the off one, two round brand marks on near side close to saddle, and a similar mark on side of near thigh, cropped tail, mane hangs on near side of neck. Supposed to have been sold in Colchester iMarket on the 6th instant, and to have gone into Suffolk or Norfolk. Stolen from & field at the Hillocks, in the parish of Hop- ton Wafre, on the night of the 6th instant, a light brawn mare Pony, 6 years old, about 12 hands high, legs a little darker than thebody, tail cut a little above gambrels, small dent on the nose, the property of Richard Onslow. Stolen about 8 a m. on the 2nd instant from a dwelling- house in Runcorn, a silver verge Watch with loose case, steel seconds hand, the others gold, had a small bit chipped off under Bide of glass near the stud,' Win Hurst' engraved on the wori< s, hut an attempt has been made to scratch it out, No 13407. had a steel fob chain, curb pattern, silver Seal with letter ' 11.' cut on glass; two bmall sdver Coins and one common brass Key attached ; and about 27s. in Money. By a young man who had lodged there about 14 days, WILLIAM BALL, a shoemaker, an interior workman, about 18 or 19 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, dark complexion and hair, which is cut short, no beard or whiskers; dressed in black cloth jacket and vest, dark striped cloth trousers, white collar, green silk necktie, printed shirt, pink colour; or brown winsey shirt, elastic- side boots with brown kid tops, aud black billy- cock hat, low crown, turned up at sides, all in good order, fie may be found playing a concertina in public and beer houses, also frtquents public foot- race grounds. States that he has woiked in Preston, Southport, Blackburn, & o., but seldom tetnains long in one place. JOtIN NAISBITT, who absconded from Darlington charged with embezzlement ( advertised in Police Gazette of the 21th ult.), has been apprehended.— Bow- street, June 14. Stolen from the dwelling- house of Robert Lambert, of Hunsworth, ou the llth instant, 16s. in Silver, a small dinner Basket, a brown hollaud Apron, and a cotton print ditto, with small red spots. By a giil, 17 years of age ( looks older), 5 feet 2 inches high, fresh complexion, light brown hair, stout, ' P. S.' in ink on one arm ; dressed in a green stuff dress, black bonnet trimmed with green, grey woollen shawl with long fringe, red striped stockings, and clogs ; she has been a prostitute at Man- chester, Leeds, Sheffield, and Portsmouth, which latter place she left five weeks ago, where she bad been cohabiting with a soldier. Stolen about. 1 p. m. on the 10th instant, from a black- smith's shop in Menington, near Salop, a Stock and Dyes and Tap, the property of William Thomas. By a man about 10 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, and dressed in a brown cloth cap, round browu cloth jacket and vest, and dirty cord irous- rs; he is a blacksmith, and a native of Wolverhampton with a patch on one knee sewn with white thread, cap with- peak, and blucher boots ; walks erect. Information to be given to Superintendent Mayne, Sittingbourne, Kent.— Bow street, June 9. Absconded from Pontefract about 2 p. m. on the 29th ultimo, charged with embezzling £ 11: JOHN ROAN, 9 native of Ireland, about 60 years of age, 6 feet 6 inches high, very sallow complexion, black hair and whiskers, turning grey, grey eyes ; dressed when last seen in an old brown cloth jicket much too large for him, brown cloth vest, cotton cord trousers, drab cloth leggings, strong laced boots, blue striped shirt, and an old billycock hat; had in his possession a white Jacket or Slop, and a new felt hat. Inloiniation to be given to Superintendent Feamside, Town Hall, Pontefract.— Bou- streit, June 9. Absconded on the 24th ultimo, from his employers, charged on a warrant with embezzling various sums of Money: EDWARD JOSEPH COSSENS, a clerk, about 67 years of age, 6 teet 8 iocheB high slight build, grey hair, bald, slight grey whiskers, fresh complexion, aud generally wears spec- tacles ; dressed in dark clothes, and high hat. ; of respectable appearance. If seen to be apprehended, and any reasonable expenses will be paid. Information to be given to the Inspects tor on Duty, Police Station, Bow- lane, City, E. C.- Bow- street, June 9. FELONIES ( Not otherwise described J, JOHN HUGHES, better known as OLD PONTY, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 9th instant, has been committed for trial at the ensuing Pembrokeshire Quarter Sessions.— Bow street, June 14. Absconded from Combe Florey, Somersetshire, on the 3rd instant, charged with rape : AARON BURSTON, pig dealer, 60 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, thin grey hair, bald on top of head, small grey whiskers, light grey eyes, thin teatnres, broad shoulders, bow- legged, leans lorward aud seldom looks up when walking ; dressed in a light grey jacket and vest, pockets outside, grey or coid trousers, and black billycock hat. Information to be given to Superintendent Mear, Williton, orto Sergeant Eveleigh, Bishops Lydeard, Somersetshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, June 11.
