CONTAINING e substance of all Informations received in cases of Felony and of Misdemeanors of an aggravated nature, and against Receivers of Stolen Goods, reputed Thieves, and Offenders escaped from Custody, with the time, the place, and the circumstance of the Offence. The Names of Persons charged with Offences who are known but not in custody, and a Description of those who are not known, their Appearance, Dress, and other marks of Identity. The Names of Accomplices and Accessories, with every particular which may lead to their Apprehension. C. *.* Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the oHence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. ROBBERY MB LARCENY FROM THE PERSON- Absconded on the 23rd iusiaut, from Ipswich, charged " with highway robbery : THOMAS COOK, 21 years of age, 6 feet 7 inches higb, dark brown hair grey eyes, long face, large nose, pochpitted, and face much blotched ; dressed in old dark clothes, trousers tight in the legs, old low oxonian shoes, no shirt, black and red comforter, and old dark cap. And THOMAS JONES, alias JOHNSTON, 13 years ol « ge, 6 feet 3 iuches high, fresh complexion, dark brown hair, haz- t eyes, and rouud face ; dressed in an old blue monkey jacket, old dark trousers, brown grizzel| vest, no shirt, red and black check Scotch cap, and old militia boots. Stated they were bellbangers, belonged to tbe East Kent Mili ia, and were discharged from Ipswich County Gaol on the 21st instant. Information to be given to Head Constable Mason, Town Hall, Ipswich, who holds a warrant for their apprehension.— Bow- street, May 28, About 1 am, on the 21st instant, Mr, William Tatter- sall, of Silkstone, innkteper and gardener, when returning from Penistone, was attacked aud violently assaulted and robbed of a Half- sovereign and a Sixpence. By a man, 23 or 24 years of age, 6 feet 6 or 6 inches high, slender build ; dressed iu a short velveteen jacket, woollen cord or drab cloth trousers, dark cap, and boots ; turns his left toe iu when walking. Infoimation to be given to Superintendent Sykes, Police Office, Barnsley, Yorkshire— Bow- sireet, May 26. Stolen on the 15th instant, from the person of William helshy, while in a public- house at Sandbaoh : a silver patent lever hunting Watch, jewelled in tour holes, gold balance spring above, makers Thomas Allcock, Sandbach, No. 60341. Information to be gi^ en to Superintendent Roubottom. Con- stabulary Station, Middlewich, Cheshire.— Bow- snect, May 19 BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Dating the night of the 26th or early on the morning of the 27th instant, the rectory at Little Dalby, near Melton Mowbray, was broken and entered, and stolen therein: a blank Cheque, signed J. F. Hinde, on Harvey and Hudson's Bank, Norwich; a silver Tea Spoon, crest- cockatrice on » crown ; a bilver Chalice and Plate, both small, the latter is very old and much dented, had been used as a cover for a cup, about 3J inches in diameter, the former is washed with gold ; a china Pipe, white bowl, about 8 inches long including stem, wire round the bowl, and amber mouthpiece ; and some silver and Copper Coins. Information to he given to Superintendent Platts, Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire.— How- street, May 28 During the night of the 23rd instant, the dwelling- house of Mr. Thomas Twyford, Shelton, hanley, was entered and the following property stolen therein : a brown cloth Over- coat with brown velvet collar, and four pockets outside; a blue cloth Dress Coat, two pockets outside, in one of the pockets a pair of hrown kid Gloves, a dark India silk Pocket handkerchief, a £ 6 Note of a Birmingham bank ( had bren cut in two and pieced again) and a black leather Pocket- book with private Papers and Memoranda. Information to be given to Superintendent Baker. Constabulary Office, hanley, Staf- fordshire.— Bow- street, May 28. During the Dight of the 18th instant, the dwelling- bouse of. Mr. Thomas Russell, at Victoria- road, St. Alban's, was broken into and the following articles stolen : a silver Watch with broad shank where the ring is in ; on the works inside is engraved near the regulator, ' T. & E. Russell's,' and tb initials ' P M P. S j' four silver Tea Spoous, three small Tea Spoons, marked ' R S. ;' four Dessert Spoons with uni- corn crest; a gold Vinaigrette, a silver Pencil Case, two gold Rings, a large gold Seal with red camelion stone ; a pair of Sugar Tongs, and a Miniature of an officer in regimentals, painted on ivory, set in gold, mother of pearl back and design of hair ; also the contents of a Missionary box. Information to be given to Inspector Chapman, Hatfield, or to Police Con- stable Quint, at the Old Gaol, St. Alban's, Herts.— Bow- street, May 26. Between 11 p. m. on the 21st and 6 a. m. on the 22nd inst. the residence of William Lee, Esq., M P., Snodland, Kent, WHS hurgNriously entered and the following articles stolen therein: six Dessert Spoons, Nickel plate; Bix Table Spoons, ditto; a plated Inkstand, 4 or 6 inches long, with two red Bottles, plated tops ; a pair of Opera Glasses in morocco case, by Burrows, of Malvern ; a small red Telescope, a large o'd- fashioued gold Seal, marked ' W. L.' on seal or a bear with chain round body on side of seal, or may be marked with both ; a long Musical Box, with a list of tunes on a card fixed inside lid, of which the following three form a part: ' Ploughboy,' ' Campbells are Coming,' and ' The Last Rose of Summer ;' a dark double Tweed Vest ( ribbed), with black ivory buttons, left- hand pocket torn at corner. £ 5 reward will he paid to any one giving such information as shall lead to the conviction of the offender or offenders and recovery of the pro- perty. Information to be given to Superintendent Hulse, Kent County Constabulary, West Malling.— Bow- st, Mat/ 24. During the night of the 21st instant the Rectory at Harley, near Much Wenlock, was broken into, and the follow- ing property stolen: one pair of silver Sugar Tongs, marked ' G.;' one silver Spoon, crest— horse's head ; one quart bottle of French Brandy , and one of Whisky; and about 6lbs. of Soap, in small pieces ; the corks of the bottles are marked ' Stanly Crowther, Ironbridge' information to be given to Superintendent Caswell, County Police Office, Shrewsbury, or to serjeant Bullock, Police Station, Much Wenlock.— Bow- street, May 24. Description of three men who entered the house of Mr. Thomas Webb, at Bengeo, at 1* 30 on the 17th instant, by means of skeleton keys: one a tall thin man, dressed in dark clothes, and high black hat, the other two were about 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, also dressed in dark clothes and bigh hats ; one of them having short curly black hair, very nicely kept, aud thick neck. The following property was stolen : 1 lady ' s gold Chain, cf. ble make, I gold Brooch, with three amethyst stones. 1 gentleman's Australian gold Ring, with nugget on tnp. 1 lady's gold Ring, with five corals. 1 ditto, set in garnets and pearls. I pair of gold Ear- rings, with gold drops. 1 large silver Gravy Spoon. 2 silver Table Spoous. 10 silver Tea Spoons, marked ' J. E.' and another letter. 1 silver Punch Ladle. 1 pair silver Sugar Tongs. 1 pair plated Table Spoons, with embossed handles. 6 Dessert ditto. 0 Tea ditto, 1 plHted Crust Stand. 4 Glasses, with silver tops. 1 pair of plated Salts on four legs. 1 plated Sugar Basket. 1 S dt Spoon. 1 Mustard Spoon. 1 silver Butter Knife, pearl handle. 1 pair of silver Nutcrackers. 1 Scent Bottle, with silver top. 1 grey Overcoat, with velvet collar. 1 dark green silk Umbrella, Vix's patent, with coloured cane handle. 1 lady's long black Silk Jacket. 1 red and brown Carpet Bag, with blue striped lining, stained with wine. Two other houses were entered on the same day, and the following property Btolen : 1 man's black cloth Coat, with pockets on each side and one left breast. l'gold Ring with four stones. 12s. in Farthings, Threepenny and Fourpenny Pieces. 1 old fashioned silver Watch, crack on face near the figure « 6.' £ 5 in Gold. 12s. in Silver. 3 netted Purses, with steel rings. The whole of the Property can be identified. Information to be given to Inspector Hunt, Hertford.— Bow- street, May 21. cloth ribbed Overcoat, black velvet collar, pockets outside in nkirts; a dark tweed Overcoat, double- breasted, entered buttons, pockets behind ; a hrown cloth Cape, brown velvet collar, covered buttons; aud two Bew white calico Shirts limn fronts and wristbands. Information to be niven to superinten- dent Haines, Whitchurch, Salop.— Bow- street, May 19. Between 2 and 5 a. m. on the 18th instant, the dwelling- house of Mr. Josiah Brett, of the Swan Inn, High- street, Holywell, was entered by means of takiDg a pane of glass oi t of one of the back windows, and the following property eto > n out of Mr. Brett's bedroom whilst he was in bed : a Casbbox, containing a £ 50 Bank of England Note, No. 14050, £ 7 in Silver, and £ 3 iu Gold ; a drab Jacket, with two pocketB outside and one inside, drab bone buttons; a light- ciloured s riped Vest ; a pair of light tweed Trousers, stripes down the aides; a silver Geneva Watch ; and a gold Albert Chain. A pair of old stockings, an old dark jacket, and an old moleskin vest were left behind. Information to be given at the Super- intendent's Office, Holywell, Flintshire. — Hmn- sireet. May 19. During the Dight of the 17th instant, the Queen's Head Inn, in Bungay, was broken into, and Btolen therein : ab ut £ 12. including a £ 5 Note, Harvey and Hudson's Bank, No. 91930 ; twelve silver tea . spoons, marked ' R. J C'; two silver dessert Spoons, one marked ' W. C.' the other ' R. C.;' four electro table Spoons, marked ' Chase ;* five silver salt Spoons, maiked - R J. C.;' two ham Forks, pearl h- nd'es; a gold lever Geneva Watch, a gold albert Chain, at d gold Key attached, one end of key shape of hatchet. Between 7 30 p. m. lflth and 10 a. m. on the 17th instant, the dwelling- house of Miss Maning, Ash Magna, parish of Whitchurch, Salop, was broken into during the absence of the family, and the following property stolen therein : a black eORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Found in the parish of Singleton, near Chichester, on n e 17th instant, and supposed to have been stolen, a browD mare Pony, 3 years old, about 12 hands high, long tail, and baa be. n shod. Information to be given to Superintendent Pratt, County- Police Station, Chichester.— Bmo- itreet, Man 28. Supposed stolen on the night of the 24th instant, from a field in the parish of Sheerfield, a black cob Horse. 8 years old, has a small white blaze on the nose, a little white on the off hind heel, the hair on the tail is rubbed and cut square, a patch o.: hair rubbed off about the centre of the b. ck. If stolen, £ 5 reward will be paid for such information as shall lead to the apprehensiou and conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Superintendent, Bridges, Brentwood, E- sex.— Bow street, May 28. Stolen ou the 23rd instant, a well bred chesnut Horse, aged, abjut 15 hands 2 inches high, rather thin, switch tail, long mme, stoort a lirrle forward, had an India rubber ring on each fore leg. hair brushed off inside both fote fetlocks, wi i, a plain riding Saddle and double reigned Bridle with white front, opens at the top by a buckle. Information to be given to Superintendent Kehoe, Detective Department, Liverpool.— Boic- streei, May 28. Stolen from a field at Selby Wick, iu the parish of North- field, duriDg the night of the 2lst instant: two fat Sheep, black faced, and not shorn, one wither, and the other a ewe the property of Mr. William Docker. Information to be given at the Police Office, King's heath, near Birmingham— fioic- strect. May 28. Stolen on the night of the 23rd instant, or early on the morning of the 24tb, from a stable at Stoke Holy Cross, Norfolk : a black mare Filly, 14 bands high, with three white legs, the two hind and tbe near fore one, white shim down the face, has recently beeu broken, and is quiet to ride and drive ; also a set of old Harness, brass mounted, the two rosettes on bridle are odd ones. J. LEMON, alias OWLEY LEMON, of Shottisham, Norfolk, is strongly suspected, he is 29 yeaia of age, S feel 10^ inches bigh, haown hair, lost two from teeth of top jaw, top lip rather drawn on one side ; dressed it) dark cloth trousers reefing jacket, and blue cloth cheese- cutter cap. Information to be given to Superintendent Riches, Lodrton, or to any of the Norfolk Constabulary.— Bow- street, May 26. Absconded on the 19rh instant from the city of Salisbury, a man of the name of GRANTLEY, alias DANDY, charged with stealing a brown Mare, a light four- wheel Carriage, a set ot brass plated Harness, a Rug, and a Whip, the property of Mr. James Herring, livery stable keeper : the mare is aged, about 15 hands higb, and black legs ; the four- wheel is nearly new, painted brown, with blue and white lines, a turu over hind seat, cushions and lining of brown American cloth, red and white lace, and blue fl or cloth. The mau is from 25 to 30 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, very dark complexion, brown whiskers ( slight) and moustache, irregular ret of teeth, and piculi* r twitch of the upper lip when speaking ; dressed in a dark tweed overcoat, wide plaid trousers wnh dark stripe at the sides, patent leather boo s, frill to front of shirt, green necktie, aud light round bowler hat with white band. Was last seen at Freemantle, near South- ampton, at which place he offered the mare and carriage for sale for £ 5 ; it is supposed they have been disposed of in the neighbourhood of Southampton. Information to be given to Superintendent White, City Police Station, Salisbury, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bou>- ttreet, May 26. Ou the Cth instant, a grey Mare and Gig were hired of Mr. Evans. stablekeeper, St James'- street. Brighton: the inare is marked with two letters ou one shoulder, and had a silver plated harness ; the gig is painted green, wheels picked out with light green : were last seen at Broadwater, near Worthing, Sussex, the same day about 2 30 p m , and have not since tieeu heard of ; it is supposed they have bten disposed of. The man who hired them is about 26 years of age, about 5 feet 2 inches high, light complexion, light brown hair, small whiskers, slight moustache, and respectably dte- sed, Infor 28 P O L I C E GAZETTE. Supposed to have been stolen by gipsies from a field at East Horsley, on the night of the 13i h instant, a dark brown Donkey, 3 years old, no shoes on, * E. T.' branded on fore feet, and in g'ood condition, the property of Edward Turrell. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Barker, Surrey Con- stabulary, Guildford.— Bow- street, May 21. Stolen from Sutton Grandsome, on the night of the 17th instant, the property of Mrs. Pool : a dark brown Horse, about 18 years old, • 6 hands high, a little lame with the near hind foot, a little wnit « on the near hind foot and forehead, and is a roarer. Information to be given to Superintendent Tanner Ledbury, Herefordshiie.— Boio- strert, Mat/ 21. Found at Shenstone, on the 18th instant, and supposed to have been stolen, a black horse Pony, about 13 hHuds high, a while spot on torehead, shoit mane, switch tall, and in good condition. Also a young Ass, light coloured, and very long rough hair. Information to be given to Superintendent Orwell, Burton- on- Trent, or to Sergeant Bason, Shenatone, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, May 21. LAROENT AND EMBEZZLE SEN t Absconded from Skelmersdale, charged with stealing a Watch ( recovered), a man of the following description : about 20 ye< rs of age, 6 feet 6 or 7 inches high, slender build, datk complexion, brown hair, no whiskers, crippled in right hand, and third finger crooked ; dressed in dark cloth jumper coat and vest, diab ribbed fustian trousers, black velvet cap and elastic- side boots; name supposed to be WILLIAM. LONG- MAN. stated he came from Southampton, and is a collier, lot rm- iion to be given at the Constabulary Office, Ormskirk, Lancashire.— bow- street, May 28. The man charged with stealing Masons' Chisels and Points from a Quarry at Clutton, and described in the Police Gazette of tbe 19th instant, has been committed for trial at the quarter sessions, S merse'shire. on the 29' h proximo. He gave his Dame SAMUEL CALLOW, a stonecutter, 48 years of age, 6 teet 10 inches high, middle size, brown hair, bald on top of head, ginger coloured whiskers, turning grey, and fresh Complexion ; dressed in an old light brown felt hat, old rusty mixed cloth coat with velvet collar and side pockets, cord vest, old fustian trousers with large patches down the front if each leg, half Wellington boots, much worn ; be states that he has been travelling through Wales and Gloucestershire in search of work. Infoimation to be given to Superintendent Emsm, Somerset Constabulary, Temple Cloud, Bristol.— Bow- street, May 28. Crest - a pelican standing on a branch; two apostle Spoons, silver- iilr bowls, a Milk Jug, a Butter Stand and Cover, a perforated Sugar Sifter, a Mustard Spoon, a Pickle Spoon, a Pickle Fork, and two pairs of Nutcrackeis, all electro- plated, plain : a man, 28 years of age 6 feet 8 inches high, dark com- plexion ; dressed in black hat aim brown overcoat, and cau be identified.— Metropolitan Police, D Divisv n, May 26. Absconded on the 22nd instant, from No. 40, Kirby- street, St. Audrew's, stealing five unfinished silver Fish Knives, marked ' F. 11.,' and £ 20 in Money : a youth, a servant, 19 years of sge, 6 feet 6 or 7 incites high, ruddy complexion, blown hair ; dressed in black over and under coats, fancy tweed trousers wiih stripe, and felt bat; supposed will endea- vour to go to Australia ; relatives reside at No. 23, Broad- street, Golden- square, Crescent, Kentish Town, ami Senix- street. Absconded on the 15th instant, from No. 92, White Lion- street, Pentonville, stealing £ i 5s. : a man, a seivant, 50 jears of age, 6 teet 6 inches high, fair complexion, grey liair, blue eves, dressed iu black frock coat and vest, dark trousers, side- Spring boots, and black hat. Absconded on the 17th instant from No. 75, Westbourne- grove, Bayswater, embezzling 18s. 61., and fraudulently obtaining five pairs • f ladies' kid Boots and two pairs youth's Calf do, a shopman, 35 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, sallow complex! n. and respectable appearance. Ssed in black cloth coat, vest and trousers, white deerstalker hat.— Melt opolv an Police, P Division, May 24, Absconded from Newnham, on the 14th instant, charged with embezzling the Bum ot £ 112 16s. 6d., WILLIAM JAMES CLAYTON, a native of London, about 27 years of age, about 5 teet 7$ luches high, sullen expre- sioo ot counte- nance. walks slowly, steps very short. Very upright gait, Ballow complexion, dark brown hair, long black beard aud moustache ; dressed io a black high crowned hat, dark vest and trousers ( tbe latter worn short), black frock coat, and elastic- side boots ; he has relatives living at Liverpool. £ 10 reward will be paid to any person who will give such information as shall lead to his apprehension, on application to Superintendent White, Coleford, or to the Sergeant of Police, Newnham, Gloucester- shire.— bow- street. May 24. Absconded on the 19ih instant, charged on a warrant with embezzling several sums of money, tlie property ot Messrs. W H. Smith & SON, news agents, London : THOS. HELPS, clerk at a book stall, Plymouth Railway Station, about 29 yrs of age, 6 feet 4 or 6 inches high, light complexion, light hair, whiskers, and moustache, stout built, and of respectable appearance ; he left Plymouth by the 6 45 a. m. train, sopposed for Yeovil, on his way to Southampton, or Channel Islands. Information to be given to Detective Superintendent Thomas, or to Superintendent Wreford, Guildhall, Plymouth.— Boto- st., May 24. Absconded from Darlington, or, the 16th instant, charged with emb zzling money belonging to his employers : JOHN NAISBITT, a clerk, about 30 years of age, 6 feet 7 or 8 inches high, dark complexion aud eyes, straight dark hair, slender figure, and is supposed to have lost a front tooth ; diessed, when he absconded, io dark cloth coat and vest, light grey cloth trousers, aDd billycock hat. Absconded on the 18th instant, from No. 6, Colville- place, Charlotte- street, stealing a new shot coloured alpaca Dress, trimmed with moir^ ; n pair of lady's kid Boots; and three half Crowns. A woman, 45 years of age, 6 feet 1 inch high, dark complexion, hair turning grey, pitted with smallpox ; dressed in light cotton dress. Mack shawl and bonnet. Absconded on the 18th instant, from the Leopard Coffee- house, 43, Old Kent- road, stealing three gold Watches, one gentlema- i's English lever, gold face, chased baok and edges; one thin Geneva, metal dome, and enamelled ta< e ; the other a lady ' s Geneva.
