' » * Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As so charge is made for the insertion of any article in the I'OLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor most be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from tbe Militia, as well as those from the regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Mall, London, S. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING Absconded from Sunderland, charged on a warrant with the wilful murder of Maria Fitzsimmons, on the 20th February last, a man named THOMAS FUREY. alias WRIGHT, alias GATHNEY, alias THE COPPER, or JACK THE SAILOR, about 25 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, datk auburn hair, Isaac Hooking9, Clyst St. Laurence. Information to be given to Superintendent Collins, Devon Constabulary, Cullompton. — Bow- strect, May 10. Stolen on the night of the 4th instant from the person of Thoman Toban, of Jarrow, about £ 13 in Gold, and a dark leather Purse with broken clasp. By a man whose name is supposed to be FRANCIS MALEY, who had been drinking in a public- house with Toban the same afernoon, and absconded immediately after the robbery was committed. He is about 27 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, sallow complexion, loDg visage, whiskers shaved off, feminine voice and appearance, dark brown hair, worn long, parted in the middle, and worn like that of a female, slender figure, supposed a native of Dublin, but is well known at Newcastle. Shields, Jarrow, West Hartlepool, and other towns in the North of England, frequents low public- houses and beer- houses, where he oances and sings ; sometimes dreises io dirty highland costume, velvet cap, with a feather in it, and at other times in black cloth square- lapped coat, no vest, dark tweed trousers, supposed to be in the latter dress when he absconded. Clutterbuck, of Long Wittenham, Berks, was broken into, and the following property stolen therein : a large silver Inkstand, with sockets for two Glasses and a small Candlestick in centre, engraved on it ' R. and T. M. Benvon, as a Gift to the Revd. J. C. Clu'terbuck ;' Communion Plate, a Paten with ' Lon.- Wittenham' on it, the Cup with the name of ' Edwards' in Latin on it, as giving it to Loug Wittenham ; a 5s. Piece of George III, quite new ; a half Guinea of George II; two old gold Coins of about the time of Edward VI ; FORGERY. C.' on it, ons a small large sum of money in his possession, and that he will embark white cornelian Seal, with the impression of a buck on it, one for some foreign port. They are supposed to be the same men who wore advertised in the Police Gazette of the 19lfi ultimo, as having committed burglaries at Floor, Northampton, and Winslow, Bucks. Between II p m. on the 7th and 11 a m. on the 8th inst., the dwelling- house of Mr. John Robinson, surgeon, Ryburn House, Soyland, was broken and entered, and the following property stolen therein : a dark blue pilot cloth dress Coat, with two pockets outside the hips, newly bound with broad braid, except the cuffs, which have old braid on, black covered buttons, the property of Charles M" orhou. se, assistant surgeon. Information to be given at ihe West RidiDg Constabulary Office, Halifax.— Bow- street, May 10. Between 10 p. m. the 7th, and 6 a. m. the 8th instant, the dwelling- house of Thomis Bedford, book keeper, Shaw Hill, in the township of Sowerby, was broken into and entered by breaking a pane of glass, and unfasieuing a window sash, and the following property stolen therein : six silver plated tea Spoons, marked * W.' in old English ; a square rosewood tea Caddy, with brass handle at the top, containing 1 lb. ot Tea ; a pair cf lace- up watertight Boots, with brass eyelet holes and goloahed ; a black snd white plaid sc* rf Shawl, neatly new ; and a pair of old silver plated sugar Tongs. Information to be given at the West Riding Constabulary Office, Halifax, York- shire.— Bow- street, May 10. On the night of the 7th instant, or early the following morning, the parish church of Hurstmonceux was broken into, and the following property stolen therein : one white damask Communion Cloth, about 7 ft square, has the following marks woven in it in two places: ' I. H. a.' encircled; one ditto, about the same size, a leal pattern ; and two small on 8 about a yard long and two feet wide, one of them is a leaf pattern and has a broad border on the selvage side only. The alms box was broken open and the contents, if any, stolen ; the parties are supposed to have some black ink on their clothes, as they emptied a bottle over two surplices that hnng in the vestry : they are also supposed to have a small chisel, about half an inch wide, in their possession. The following is a description of two men who are suspected, one about 19 or 20 years of age, 6 feet 9 or 10 inches high, pale, sickly complexion, and very slight ; dressed in dark cloth coat and cap, and had his left hand tied up. The other, from 20 to 30 years of age, 6 feet 8 or 9 inches high, very d , rk complexion, dark hair, and slight; dressed in dark clothes and cap ; also two women, from 20 to 30 years of age, one of them bad a cheeseplate bonnet, trimmed with blue ribbon ; they also had a boy with them, from 10 to 12 years of age, was carrying a blecu bag. Infor- mation to be given at the Chief Constable's Office, Lewes ; to Superintendent Waghorn, Ilailsham; or to P. C. Elliott, Windmill Hill, Hurst Green.— Bow- street, May 10. During the night of the 8th instant, the dwelling- house of Mr. John Cooper, Sale, was entered, and the following articles stolen therein : a plain black cloth Overcoat; a blue body Coat, pockets at sides, one ioside breast, velvet collar, bound with braid; a pair of Trousers, small blue plaid, one pocket worn out ; and a pair of elastic- side Boots, with calf skin tops. Information to be given to Superintendent Steen, Police Office, Altrincham, Cheshire.— Bow- street, May 10. The Great Western Railway Station at Adderley, near Market Drayton, was broken into during the night of the 6th instant, and the following property stolen : £ 2 Os. 4Jd. in Silver and Copper ; 27 Postage Stamps, initialed « G. W. R. ;* about 1 lb. of Soap, with the letters ' LON' and part of the letter ' d ' upon it ; and a Jemmy, 14 or 16 inches long, nearly new ; and a red and ( reen Carpet- bag, containing two Dresses, two Chemises, a Nightgown, two pairs of Stockings ( marked ' E. M.'), a pair of woman's Boots nearly new, a Comb and Brush, and some dirty Linen. Also, from And'em Railway Station, Cheshire, same night, a dark witney Overcoat and a Towel. Information , o be given to Superintendent Haines, Whitchurch, or to Sergeant Howels, Market Drayton, Salop. — Bow- street. May 10. About 9 30 p. m. on the lst instant, the dwelling- house of Aaron Jiggins, at Hatfield Pevtril, was broken and entered, and stclen therein : £ 5 10s. in Gold and Silver, a pair of lace- up Shoes, a pair of black cloth Trousers, two Handkerchiefs ( one black silk, the other blue and white), and a pinchbeck Watch, the minute hand broken, brass Chain and two Keys attached. By WILLIAM KING and a black man, Dame unknown : tbe former is 22 years of age, 6 feet 6 or 7 inches high, light hair and complexion, has a little colour, and some hair on the upper lip ; dress , d in a black wideawake hat, old grey coat and trousers, anil is of very dirty appearance. The other is believed to bo> 25 years of age, 6 feet 6 or 7 inches high, short flat nose, large thick lips, and projecting chin ; dressed in black wideawake I at. very loose long coat, and light trousers fitting tight to the legs ; he calls himself the ' Fire King,' and attends races, fairs and towns, licking red- hot bars of iron and standing on them, King waiting upon him. A warrant has been granted for his apprehension. Information to be given at any Police Statiou in Essex.— Bow- street, May 7. Stolen by means of housebreaking, from a jeweller's lock- up shop in Southport, on the night of the 3rd instant : A small oval Stand, covered with green silk velvet, had on it 25 or 27 gold scarf Pins. An enamel Ring Tr ly, containing 30 gold stamped keeper Rings, some marked ' t/ a 6/ 6,' others ' e/ n 8/ 6,' scrat ched. 24 or 25 pairs of bright gold Ear- riDgs. 1 tortoiseshell Biooch, dove shape, ' n/ n' scratched behind. 6 gilt Sets, in cases, marked ' e/ n,' at the bottom of the cases. 100 silver Thimbles. 20 silver Brooches, with pebbles. 24 French Rings, with green and white stones. 4 or 6 dozen gold plated Rings. £ 5 reward will he paid on conviction of the offender or offenders. Stolen from St. German's, on the night of the 4th instant, a bay mare Pony, 6 years old, about 10 hands high, a piece cut out cf one of the ears, and has a cut tail. Stolen from a meadow at Farnham on the night of the 6th instant a rusty grey nag Hprse, 15 hands 1 inch high, 6 years old, without shoes, and does not like his off ear touched, the property of Mr. George McDonald. By a man dressed in a dark coat and high hat, who passed through Guildford with the horse at 4 a. m. on the 7th instant. Stolen from a field in the parish of Forthampton, Glouces- tershire, during the night of the 1st instant or early the fol- lowing morning, a three- year old chesnut cart mare Colt, about 15 hands high, flaxen mane and tail, without shoes, and in good condition, the property of Mrs. Sarah Jakeman, farmer. £ 5 reward will be paid to any person who will give such information as shall lead to the apprehension and convic- tion of the offender or oifenders. Stolen from the highway at Crockey Hill, in the parish of Escrick, between 7 and 9 p. m. on the 4th instant, a brown cart Mare, 15 hands high, black legs, a little hair rubbed off sides with the cart shafts, some hair off the hind quarters, and in low condition. Information to be given to Superintendent Lazenby. East Riding Constabulary Station, Escrick.— Bow- street, May 10. Stolen between 7 p. m. on the 4th and 7 a. m. on the 5th instant, from a field near the city of London Cemetery, Little Ilford, a black Mare.— Metropolitan Police, K Division, May 10. Description of WILLIAM NORMAN, alias WILLIAM KENTY, a drover, charged with stealing four Beasts ( since recovered), at Sleaford, on the 26th ultimo, the property of Mr. F. Wakerly, of Pickworth, near Falkingham : he is about 34 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, dark sandy or red whiskers, shaved off under the chin, rather thick lips ; dressed when last seen in a dark coat, brown trousers and vest, strong lace- up boots, and sott black billycock hat. He is a native of Kent, but has lived for some time at Corby, near Grantham, and is well known by jobbers and drovers. A reward of £ 3 will be given on his apprehension. Stolen between 9 p. m. on 1st, and 6 a. m. on the 2nd in& t., from a field near the Bath road, Stanwell: two Horses, one a grizzled bay cart horse, aged, 15 hands high, has recently been blistered on throat, chest, and loins ; the other a rusty black cob mare, 6 years old, 14 hands high, two hind and one fore- feet white, star on forehead, part of maue cut away on offside, to make it lay on near side, mark of a sore on rear shoulder. By two men, about 25 yeats of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high ; dressed in black jackets, and billycock hats. ( Horse stealing) — Metropolitan Police, T Division, May 7. Stolen from a stable in Birmingham, on the lst instant: a brown cart Horse, aged, long tail and mane, blind of the left eye. Stolen on the 21st March : eight Welsh Lambs, and one Down, all ewes, from Cowden, Kent, all in lamb and marked ' W. S.,' eight of them on near side, and one on off side. LAROSNTAND EMBEZZLE 132IfT Absconded on the 4th instant from No. 3, Elvidge- terrace, Wick- road, Hackney, stealing a Watch, maker Dent, number 24933, and £ 16, a man ( lodger), 22 years of age, 6 feet 7 inches high, complexion and hair dark, slight whiskers, and dressed in dark check coat, light worsted cord trousers, dark vest, tommydodd hat, and lace- up shoes. Supposed will go to America. ( Larceny— lodger.)— Metropolitan Police, N Divi- sion, May 10. Stolen from the side of the Shropshire Union Canal, at Cheswardine. during the night of the 30th ultimo, a tar Sheet, nearly new, about 13 teet by 10 feet, short pieces of thin cord have been attached to the lines : by a man, about 40 years ot 8ge, about 6 feet 8 inches high, sandy whiskers, stout build, upright gait, has been a soldier, and dressed in a grey jacket, dark cloth trousers, and grey cap with peak. Sometimes travels with boats, and sometimes fishes the canal ; has no fixed residence. Is known by boatmen on the Shropshire Union Canal. Information to be given to Sergeant Howeils, Market Drayton, Salop.— Bow- street, May 10. Absconded from the city of Glasgow, on the 3rd instant, charged with embezzling £ 45, the property cf his employer, Mr. John Gray, agent, No. 12, Saint Vincent place, Glasgow, and for whose apprehension a warrant has been granted : JOHN McINTYRE, a clerk and traveller, about 25 years of age, but looks somewhat older, fully 6 feet high, slender make, broad shouldered, pale complexion, slight whiskers ( if any), long aquiline nose, is a bigiilander but speaks good English with a little highland accent; dressed in a dark shooting coat or surtout, grey tweed trousers and a felt hat. Ha9 a wife but no family ; she is a native of York. It is expected thatl^ e will endeavour to leave tbe country from some sea port. Information to be given to Chief Constable Smart, Glasgow.— BotMlreet, May 10. Absconded from Newport, Monmouthshire, on tbe 28th ultimo, charged with stealing a gold Watch and Guard, the property ot Grace Williams : JOHN or JAMES SUTCLIFFE, a canvasser for advertisements for a newspaper. He is about 38 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, red face, dark hair, and rather sandy whiskers, speaks very quick with North Country dialect ; dressed in dark clothes, black bowler hat, and carries a leather satchel with strap over the shoulders; he is accompanied by his wife with a baby about 3 months old and a boy about 9 years of age. He stated that his father was a retired pawnbroker at Birkenhead, Manchester, or Hud- dersfield, and was formerly employed on a newspaper at South- ampton.
