The Names of Persons charged with Offences who are known but not in custody, and a Description of those who are not known, it* ir Appearance, Dress, and other marks of Identity. Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the pur- pose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to Mr. W. D. BURNABY, the Editor, Police Court, Bow- street, London, W. C. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre hended, and the name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to tbe Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, ail Letters addressed to the Editor most be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from tbe regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Mall, London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. INFORMATIONS. MFJRDEH. AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. On the 10th instant, the dead body of a male child, about 6 months old, and quite naked, was found in a ditch of water, eighteen inches deep, in a field about 40 yards from the turnpike- road leading from Thornbury to Gloucester, there are no external marks of violence on the body, other than slight bruises on the right side of the forehead, it was not decomposed, and could not have been dead more than two or three days : the child is well made and fat, has two front teeth in the lower jaw, very little hair ( rather sandy), blue eyes, and had been vaccinated. It is supposed to have been brought some distance. A verdict of ' Wilful Murder ' against some person or persons unknown has been returned at the coroner's inquest. Information to be given to Superintendent Ellison, Chipping Sodbury, or to Sergeant Arthur, Police Office, Thornbury, Gloucestershire.— Bow- street, January 25. The body of a newly- born male child was picked up at sea on the 17th instant, about 600 yards S. W. of St. Catherine's Island : the body was sewn up in a piece of black satin, the skull was fractured ( before death), and a punctured wound had been inflicted on the chest, which had not penetrated its cavity, no medical aid had apparently been had at the birth. It appears to have been in the water from 40 to 48 hours. A verdict of ' Wilful Murder' has been returned. Information to be given to Chief Constable Thomas, Tenby, Pembrokeshire. — Bow- street, January 26. Further information respecting WILLIAM RICHARDS, advertised in tne Police Gazette of the 2nd ultimo, charged with the murder of Joseph Butler, one of Lord Lisburne's gamekeepers, on the morning of the 28th November last, and for whose apprehension a reward of £ 100 is offered : he is still at large, and it is supposed that he will endeavour to get a passage to America, and to be now in the neighbourhood of London. Information to he given at the Chief Constable's Office, Aberayron, Caidtganshire— Bow- street, January 20. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON- Stolen from the person at Market Drayton, on the 23rd instant, an old German silver Watch, a piece chipped off the face at the figure 11 ; a steel Chain, with a metal pocket Piece much worn, attached. Information to be given to Sergeant Howells, Market Drayton, Salop.— Bow street, January 27. BURGL& RY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Between 10 p. m. and 6 a. m. on the 28th ultimo, the house of Christopher Wilson, farmer, of Hill House, in the parish of Gainford, was broken and entered, and the following property stolen therein : a gentleman's mahogany Writing Desk, con- taining Documents ; a lady's mahogany Work Box; a dark grey check cloth shooting Coat, lined with brown alpaca, and brown buttons ; a flitch of Bacon, about 4 stone weight; and a loaf of Bread. The Writing Desk and Work Box have been recovered. Information to be given to Sergeant Watson, Durham Coucty Constabulary, Staindrop, Darlington.— Bow- street, February 1. About 2 a m on the 30th ultimo, the dwelling- house of William Neal, of Wolverton, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : a large silver verge hunting Watch, capped, cases very much dented, silver albert Chain attached, silver Key attached to end of chain, with a piece of brass wire; two men of the following description who were near the house, about 2- 30 a. m. are suspected, about 30 years of age, 6 feet 7 inches high ; dreBsed in a dark jacket, light trousers, and black cap ; the other is about 30 years ot age, 5 feet 7 inches high ; dreBsed in dark jacket and trousers, and black cap, had with them a small brown dog. Stolen by means of housebreaking, from a pawnbroker's sale- room in Coatbridge, Lanarkshire, on the morning of the 29th ultimo: 10 silver lever Watches, Nos. 4298, 5617. 46050, 682, 6646, 10349, 6002, 9297, 23122, and 4869 ( white dial). 6 silver Geneva Watches, Nos. 4617, 8381, 12, 50513, 14225, and 7149 12 silver verge Watches, 45423, 7199, 6809, 9164, 1303, 608, 1780, 4006 ( single case), 8674, 4030, 7894, and 21926. 1 gold Guard, snake pattern ' 9 carat' stamped on swivel. 1 ditto, cable pattern. 2 ditto, newly col ured. About 8 silver Guards, cable and curb patterns, one above 2 ozs. 1 gold mounted Bracelet, made of oak. 1 mourning Ring, 18 carat, ' In memory of' in enamel. 1 gold Locket, Bible pattern. 6 set Rings, 9 carat, set with emeralds, garnets, & c. 1 silver Seal, plated with gold, with amber stone. 1 Brass, with ruby stone, an eye cut out on stone. 2 plain Rings, 22 carat gold. 1 Ring, set with pearls, one pearl out. 1 gentleman's mourning Ring, with sixteen pearls. 1 silver Malteso Ring, set with two rubies and emerald. 1 set Ring, with amber stone. 1 ebony Pen, with gold nib, pencil case on other end. 1 gold Brooch, coarsely soldered on back. 1 small ditto, without pin. 1 small Pin, set with pearls. 1 ditto, set with black stones, with common black iron pin. 1 gold Breguet, with key. 1 large gold Key, with white stone on one side, amethyst on the other. 1 gentleman's Scarf Ring, jeweller's gold, space for portrait in front. 1 small gold Brooch, space for portrait. 1 large ficger Ring, jeweller's gold, plaited hair in stone. 2 lady's gold lever Watches, gold dials, No. of one, 6440. 1 lady's gold Guard, about 15 carat. 1 gentleman's heavy pure gold Ring, set with amber stone. 1 extra small sized gold Ring, with three stones. 1 half worn dark coloured Baonockburn tweed shooting 1 Co- it, with pocket outside right breast, two outside pockets, bone buttons, single- breasted, and worn at cuffs. £ 6 14s. in silver and copper Monies. Entrance was obtained to the premises by a back window, and the offenders are supposed to have cut their hands in breaking the glass, as traces of blood were found on the window sill; they left behind them a small round iron candleBtick, very coarsely made. Information to be given to Chief Constable Mackay, Hamilton, or to Superintendent Kyle, Airdrie, Lanarkshire, by whom a reward of £ 10 will be paid on the apprehension and conviction of the offenders.— Bow- street, February 1, Stolen from a dwelling- house in the borough of Glossop, during the night of the 26th instant, by housebreaking : an old silver verge Watch, No 9635. outer case indented ; a black stuff scarf Shawl, with black silk fringe ; a shepherd's plaid single Shawl, small pattern; a pair ot cotton cord Trousers, patched in front and at the bottom of the legs; a pair of women's Clogs, nearly new ; a loaf of Bread ; and 1 lb. of Bacon. Information to be given to Head Constable Kershaw, Borough Police Office, Glossop, Derbyshire. — Bow: street, January 29. During the night of the 25th instant, the office of Mr. Henry Ackerley, solicitor, King- street, Wigan, was broken and entered, and stolen from a drawer which appeared to have been forced open with a flat instrument: a £ 5 Bank of England Note, marked ' V. | P., 67667. 1868, May 1st, Liverpool a £ 20 ditto, marked ' Y. | O., 104fi2, 1868. January 9th, Man- chester ;' a £ 50 ditto, marked ' V. A.. 45561, 1868, January 10th, Manchester ;' £ 36 fcs. 9d. in Gold, Silver and Coppers ; and some Postage Stamps. A reward of £ 10 will be paid to any person giving such information as shall lead to the appre- hension and conviction of the offender or offenders, and recovery of the property, or in proportion to the amount recovered. Information to be given to Chief Constable Simm, Wigan.— Bow- street, January 29. Between 3 and 6 p. m. on the 24th instant, the dwelling- house of Robert Swale Alefounder. Esq., situate in Tanners- lane, in the parish of St. Peter, Ipswich, was broken and entered, and about £ 80 in Gold and Silver; a .£ 10 Note, of Bacon and Co.' s Bank, Ipswich ; also two £ 5 Notes, of Alexander and Co.' s Bank, Ipswich, the number of one of which is I. 848 ; were stolen therein. Information to be given to Head Constable Mason, Town Hall, Ipswich.— Bow street, January 29. During the night of the 22nd instant, the dwelling- house of George Thorley, farmer, of Lower Withington, near Macclesfield, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : a Bilver lever Watch, silver Guard and steel Chain attached, No. 6492; a single harelled Gun ; a suit of boy's Clothes, grey mixture ; a boy's calico Shut, with linen tront and wristbands, marked ' H. T.' on the lap ; a Ham, green ; and two pieces of Bacon. Information to be given to Superintendent Williamson, County Constabulary Office, Macclesfield.— Bow- street, Jan. 2.7. During the night of the 20th instant, the dwelling- house of Mr. A. Bingham, of Ware, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : 1 silver Cruet Stand and the silver Tops of the Cruets. 6 silver Mugs one marked in full ' Percy BiDgham, a Gift from his Godfather, Alfred Fulcher.' 16 silver Spoons, eight Tea, four Egg, two Salt, one Mustard, all marked ' B.' 1 plated round ornamental Bread Basket, a ditto Teapot, a ditto Sugar Basin, a ditto Fish Knife and Fork, all marked • A. M. B.' 9 large plated Forks, and 10 do. small, 15 do. Dessert Spoons, marked ' A. M. B.' Supposed by three men, one about 6 feet 7 inches high, and the others about 5 feet 4 inches high, and dressed in dark clothes. Between 6 and 8 p. m. on the 24th instant, the dwelling- house of Mr. John Cartwright, of Oadby, near Leicester, was broken and entered, and the following property stolen therein : 1 old- fashioned silver Watch, with « J. N. Cartwright' around the face instead of figures. 2 silver Table Spoons, marked ' M. H.' 6 Tea Spoons and 4 Salt ditto, silver, and marked ' H.' 1 Salt Spoon and 1 Mustard ditto, silver, and marked ' C.' 1 silver Caddy Spoon, marked ' H.' 3 small silver Tea Spoons, marked ' H. B.' 4 Tea Spoons and 10 Dessert ditto, silver, and marked ' C.' 1 Butter Knife. 6 large Forks, 6 small ditto, and 2 Sauce Ladles, German silver, and marked ' C.' 4 German silver Table Spoons. 1 gold mourning Riug, with imitation hair in it. 2 pairs of gold Ear- rings. 1 gold mourning Pin, with plaited grey hair in K. 1 set of flowered gold Shirt Studs. 1 pair of glass Wristband Studs, with silver links. 3 Sovereigns, 1 Half ditto, 10s. in Silver, and 1 American Cent. A reward of £ 5 will be paid by the Oadby Association for the Prosecution of Felons, and £ 6 by Mr. Cartwright, on conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to he given to Super- intendent Burden, A * lestone. near Leicester, or at the County Constabulary Office, Leicester.— Bow- street, January 27. £ 5 reward will be paid to any person v: ho will give such information as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offeuders, « ho committed the robbery at the house of Mrs. Bridgeman, Torre, Torquay, on the 25th ultimo, and the recovery of the property, or in proportion to the amount recovered, on application to Superintehdent Baird, Devon Constabulary, Paignton, or to ' Serjeant Ockford ( No. 120), Town Hall, Torquay.— Bow- street, January 27. Between 11 a. m. and 12 noon on the 22nd instant, the cottage of Mr. William Sutton, of Norton, in the parish of Bromyard, was broken and entered and stolen therein: £ 18 in Gold; £ 3 in Silver ; u gold Brooch, with the likeness of a boy on one side, and the other Faith, Hope and Charity ; three silver Watches, one maker William Nadauld, Lundon, No. 8097, one maker Hawley London, No. 19, one hunter, maker Harris, Bromyard, No 14699 ; a flaunel under Shirt; and a bottle of Wine. Supposed by two men of the following description : one about 30 to 36 years of age, abont 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, dark hair, whiskers closely shaved off, and dark complexion ; dressed iu cord or moleskin trousers, dark jacket, supposed to be wealing a dark cap, but has been wearing a light brown bowler hat. narrow brimmed, which has since been found in a quarry. The other is about 5 feet 6 or 6 inches high, thin white face, and sandy whiskers under the chin ; dressed in dark trousers, drab Bath cloth coat, black bowler hat, and good well nailed neat shoes. £ 5 reward will be given by Mr. Sutton, on con vie ion of the offender or offenders. In- formation to be given to Superintendent Harwood, Bromyard, Herefordshire. - Bow street. January 27. Between 10 a. m. and 6 p m. on the 31st ult. the dwelling- house of William Gurley, at Packwood, in the county of Warwick, was broken and entered, and the following articles were stolen therein: a grey Top Coat with velvet collar; a black cloth Jacket, and about £ 6 in gold and silver Coin. Supposed by a respectably- dressed man, in brown jacket and trousers, and billycock hat, about 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, and has a marK on the neck below the left ear. Stolen since the 13th ultimo from Sydenham, a four- wheel Chaise, painted dark green, • Alfred Aldus' on caps of wheels ; also a bay gelding Horse, 14 hands high, small white mark on face, corn ou right foot, bound with string, aged, with plated harness. Supposed offered for sale at Edgware on the 16th ult., by two men, one about 50 years of age, whiskers and moustache turning grey ; the other abeut 30 years of age, sandy whiskers and mmsrache ; both respectably dressed.— Metropolitan Police. Absconded from Blsndford. charged with receiving six Pen Knives ; twelve pairs of lady's Boots ; eight steel albert Chains; three Pencil- cases; two mosaic pavement Puzzles; four reams of Foreign Note Paper ; a quantity of Envelopes and other articles of Paper ; a square deal Box, containing Seals and a scarlet morocco Pocket- book ; well knowing the same to have been stolen. ROBERT EYERS, a shoemaker, about 35 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, fresh complexion, dar'.: hair and whiskers meeting under the chin ; dressed in dark coat aud vest, light cloth trousers, aiid a ruund quilted hat. He was in or near Brighton about a fortnight since, hawk in:; Honey and Fish, and representing himfeelt to be an agent for Mr. Dennett, of Blandford. He has with him a small bay Pony, silver mounted Harness, and oak coloured painted trap; supposed to be in Sussex or Hunts, hawkiog Honey, Fish, Soap, or Poultry. Part ot the Property a olen has sine been recovered, having been sold by him. Informa- tion to be given to Superintendent Southey, Borough Police, Blandford, Dorset, who holds a warrant for his apprehension. — Boic- slrcet, February 1. Charged on a warrant with stealing £ 208, the property of his master, Jonas Archer, builder, Frizington, on the 16th ultimo: JAMES BURNS, about 38 or 40 years of age, native of the North of Ireland, but has been several years in England, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, stout made, auburn hair, very curly, thick moustache, rather light, uo whiskers, fresh complexion, red pimples on face, and of smart appearance ; dressed iu dark tweed suit, and low orowued black hat; when he absconded he was employed as clerk or time keeper, and also kept a public house at Cleator Moor ; he is well known in the North of England, having been in the employ of . , , ,- , , .. several railway contractors, as time keeper, & c., he is much about 5 feet 9 or 10 i ches high, black h : r and generally worn addlcted t0 driuUing. No doubt ' I hide my time a set of onyx shirt Studs, set in gold ; a set LARCJSSY AND 13MB ti^ lE Stolen from, the cottage of Jeremiah Wolfe, at Chiidtiley, on the 29ih ultimo, a black cloth Overcoat, blue plaid lining, and two outside pockes with flips; a pair of worsted cord Trousers, a drab slop Jacket, a pair of Spectacles, two Razors in separate cases, and a Shaviug Brush. By a man, from 45 to 50 years of age, about 5 feet 4 inches high, loug dark hair and whiskers, and dreBsed in grey coloured trousers, light slop, lace- up shoes, and supposed to be wearing the stolen coat, aud to be making his way by Huntingdon into Lincolnshire. He is accompanied by his wife and child ; he left Bourn on the 7th ultimo, ai'd baid hs; was going to Notthuham, he then hud the truck in his possession. Absconded from Redditch, on the 29th ultimo, charged with stealing a black cloth Jacket, breast pocket outside, and two pockets in the skirts ; a grey Jacket, lined inside with imitation of seal skin, black velvet collar ; a white calico Shirt, nearly new, pleaed front ; a pair of brown worsted Gloves. Further information respecting the attorney's clerk who absconded from Sleaford, on the 4th ultimo, charged with embezzling the sum of £ 350, the property of Mr. Chas. Steel, solicitor, Sleaford, Lincolnshire, and advertised iu the Police Gazette of the 16th ultimo. It has since been ascertained that he forged a cheque for £ 200, which was cashed on the 2nd ultimo : he is from 35 to 40 years of age, about 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, dark brown or black eyes, black moustache and hair, whiskers shaved off side of face, but worn under and on the chin, round full red face, short sighted and wears spectacles, rather thick set, email hands and feet, turns his toes in when talking, wears a ring on little finger of left hand, with a black stone, has lost several teeth from front upper jaw, good address, and of respectable appearance. Has a wife and six children, the eldest of whom is a boy, about 12 years of age.
