As HO charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor mast be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. INFORMATIONS. 1UEDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING, Further information respecting the dead body of a female child wilicli was found in the canal at Dunham Massey, and advertised in the Police Gazette of the 15th instant : a further adjourned inquest upon the body was closed on the 27th inst., and a verdict of ' Wilful Murder sgainst some person or persons unknown' was returned. Further information respecting JAMES GIBSON, alias IRISH JEMMY, a collier, charged with manslaughter, at Barn » ! ey, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 16th instant, and subsequent dates ; he has worked at Claycross, Whitting- On the 29th instant, the cottage of Mr. Drew, at Cudham, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : a German silver hunting Watch, maker Thomas Walton, London, No. 1794, also a morocco Purse ; supposed by a man about 36 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inohes high, dark complexion hair and whiskers; dressed in dark coat, light trousers and vest, black billycock hat, and light boots a plumber and glazier ; a painter's knife was left on th> premises. Information to be given to Superintendent Colman, Police Court, Sevenoaks.— Bow- street, July 31. Between 12 p m. the 25th, and 3 a. m. on the 26th instant, the dwelling- house of the Railway Hotel, Michel- dever Station was broken and entered, and stolen : About 5s. in Postage Stamps, £ 2 in Threepenny and Fourpenny Pieces, a Sovereign or two and some Half Sovereigns, 2 pint Silver Tankards, about one pouuc- aud- a- half of Tobacco, done up in pennyworths, a quantity of pewter Cheques, and a bottle of cherry Brandy. Information to be given to Superintendent and Deputy Chief Constable Everett, Hants Constabulary, Winchester, or at any of the Police Stations in Hampshire.— Bow- street, July 31. On the afternoon of the 27th instant, the dwelling- house of Francis Rees, of Keeston, in the parish of Camrose, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : a grey cloth Coat, two pockets outside hips, drab composition buttons; a dark grey cloth Vest, with composition buttons; a pair of Trousers of same material as vest, with full front: a soft black felt Hat, with broad brim ; a grey and white flannel Shirt; and a pair of Wellington Boots, have been new fronted, plates on the heels, no nails. By two tramps : GEORGE GREEN, a native of Taunton, labourer, 24 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, dark hair, no whiskers, slight moustache, blue eyes, dark complexion, scar behind right car, two small moles on right arm, nose slightly turned up ; was dressed in dark clotlus, but is supposed to be now wearing the stolen clothes. JAMES RICHARDS, a native of London, punter, 52 years of age, 5 feet 1 inch high, dark hair slightly tinged with grey, blue eyes, dark complexion, blind of right eye; dressed in dark clothes. Information to be given to Captain Stokes, Chief Constable, Haverfordwest, or to Sergeant Clarke, Chief Constable's Office, Haverfordwest, who holds a warrant for their apprehension.— Bow- street, July 31. On the afternoon of the 27th instant, a cottage in the occupation of William Potter, at Upavon, Wilts, was broken ton, and Brampton, in Derbyshire, also at Bishop Auckland j int0 and the following property stolen therein:' a black silk and Spennymoor, in Durham. A reward of 20s. will be paid - — . - - -- - ... for his apprehension. Information to be given to Superintenden Sykes, Police Office, Barnsley, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, July 27 Found OD the morning of the 24th instant, in a wheat, field at Bowdon, the dead body of a newly born male child, wrapped up in an old piece of blanket, part of a woman's white calico night dress, a piece of the ' Standard' newspaper, dated 9th June, and a piece of brown paper; an inquest has been held upon the body, and a vetdict of wilful murder returned against some person or persons unknown. Description of JAMES RODGERS, a tramping shoe- maker, charged with stealing a Watch, from the perBOD, on the 2ist instant, at Middleton ; he is about 35 years of age, 6 feet 2 inches high, very dark complexion, full round face, dark hair, and has a scar on the lower jaw; dressed in old dark cloth coat, vest and trousers, old hoots, and cloth cap ; he is a native of Stockport, and is well known there, and in Manches- ter. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Between 8 a. m. aud 1 p. m. on the 29th ultimo, the dwelling house of Thomas Bryder, in the parish of Petworth, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : a black cloth Coat, pockets outside, two waistcoats, one without collar, a pair of brown clo h striped Trousers, a bordered silk Handkerchief, a woman's Nightdress, and a pair of elastic- side Boots. Two tramps were seen in the neighbourhood the morning of the robbery, they are from 20 to 22 years of age ; dressed in dark coats and caps ; the coat and nightdress was offered for sale at Guildford by a tramp, on the 30th ultimo. Between 7 a. m. and 8 p. m. on the 28th instant, the dwelling- bouse ot Betsy West, of Toynton All Saints, Spilsby, Lincolnshire, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : a brown rough Topcoat, nearly new, double- breasted, lined with snuff- coloured winsey, and i wo pockets in the sideB, the pro- perty of John West Supposed by tramps. Bm- ttreet, July 31, Cape, two Nightdresses, four Shirts, a pair of woman's cloth Boots, nearly new, about 4 lbs. of Bacon, four Sheets, two Pillow- cases, three Gowns, two Shawls, six Chemises, three Petticoats, 3 yards of Smock- frocking, and 9 yards of long Cloth. Information to be given to Superintendent Stretten, Wilts Constabulary, Marlborough.— Bmr,- street, July 29, Between 2 aud 6 p. m. on the the 27th inst., the dwelling- house of Maria Poulson, of Knottingley, was broken and entered, and the following articles stolen therein : £ 13 in Gold ; 42s. in Silver ; a plain gold Ring, set with a clear gloss stone to imitate a diamond ; a pair of women's cloth 1' cots, luce at sides, has been soled and heeled ; a pair of kid ditto, ( elastic- sides, partly worn ; and a slate coloured stuff Dress. Supposed by two men, one 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, dark complexion, hair and whiskers, stout build, and of shabby appearance ; dressed in b'ack coat, light trousers and vest, and black billycock hat. The other about 30 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, dark complexion and liair, no whiskers, and slender build ; dressed iu a long brown coat. Both men had the appearance of nut hawkers, or frequenters of fairs, races, & c. Ihformatioa to be given to Superintendent Hall, West Riding Constabulary, jPontefract.— Bow- street, July 29. At 1 a. m. on the 27'. n inst., a man was found in a room in a house in Queen's Park, Chester, he escaped, and a pair of silver Sugar Tongs, Irish make, marked • VV.' were afterwards mi: sed. About 5 a. m. the same morning, a man of the following description, was found about a mile from the said house, lying at the bottom of a precipice, about twenty feet high, and on being taken to the infirmary, was found to be so seriously injured that his life is despaired of: he gives the name of JOHN SHIERS, upholsterer, Bristol, about 26 or 28 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, slight light moustache, no whiskers, and brown hair ; dressed in a brown melton topcoat, with velvet collar, biack velvet shooting coat, black ribbed cloth trousers, bound round the waist with magenta silk, the buttons marked ' J. Nein, 93, Fore- street,' white striped calico shirt, blue cotton socks, round black billycock hat, and elastic grained leather baluioral boots. He refuses any account of himself, except that he had been illused, and robbed by two men. A new joiner's Chisel, a palette Knife, a piece of new Sash Cord, and a box of Matches, were found near him, and he is supposed to be the person who committed the burglary. A betting book was found in his possession, Containing the follow- ing address, No. 3, Pool- terrace, City- road, aud the name Maynard. On the 24th instant, the cottage of John Wood, of Seven- oaks Common, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : a silver lever hunting Waich, engine turned, maker Whitehead, Sevenoaks, a silver guard Chain, a plain black cloth sac Coat, and £ 2 10s. in Gold. Supposed by a man dressedin a red shirt, dark trousers, and light billycock hat, and the stolen coat, as an old one was left behind. Stolen from Epping Plain on the 28th or 29th ultimo, the propsity of Arthur Fairchild, Epping, a rusty brown inare Pony, about 13 hands high, whue star on the forehead, one white nostril, several white marks under the saddle ; has had sore wethers, a lit'le lame with the off hind 1 low hip on the off side, s. - ' ling on the near hind fetlock, with a thin long tail down to the hocks. Whoever will give such information as s iall lead to the con- viction of the offender or offenders shall receive £ 2 reward. Stolen from Worplesdon, Surrey, on the 31st ultimo, a black filly Colt, 4 years old, 15 hands high, long mane and tail, has a slight mark of white dovn face, supposed to have a shoe only on one of the fore feet. Stolen, some time during the night of the 28th instant, from a field at Penllin, near Cowbridge, a bay cob Mare, 5 years old, about 14j hands high, blttc . mane ; a black bushy tail, about 14 inches long; foie- qumters good; falls off a little in hind- quarlers; three black legs and one white. Found, supposed to have been stolen, a red Cow, long horns, white face and legs, Hereford breed. Information to be given to Superintendent Freeman. Stourbridge, Worcestershite, — Bow- street, July 31. Supposed stolen cn the 13th inst., from Brightling, Sussex, seven Kent Lambs, marked ' Fork' in off ear, and ' 64' in pitch on near side, the property of Mr. John Body. Information to be given at the Chief Constable's Office, Lewes, to Deputy Chief Constable Thompson, Court House, Battle, or to Police Constable Richardson, Dallington, Hurst Green, Sussex.— — Bow- st., July 31. Stolen from a field at Elmley Lovett, during the night of the 24th instant, a brown cob Dors', C years old, about 14 or 15 hands high, near foreleg swelled below the knee, hind feet white to fetlock joints, three white saddle marks on back, short bang tail, and in good condition. Description of GEORGE GLOSSOP, a pot hawker, wbo is charged with stealing a bay Horse, the property of Mr. Stephenson, of Althorpe, on tne 21st instant, which has been recovered : he is abou 26 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, sallow complexion, slightly pockmarked, dark hair inclined to curl, no whiskers, and two teeth out in front ; dressed in a long grey or browii coat, cord trousers, light- coloured vest, black velvet or Velveteen cap, aud strong lace- uo '. o its. By a tramp who lodged at the house one night; he is about 35 years of age, 5 feet C or 7 inches high, dark complexion, daik hair, whiskers shaved off, tuft ot hair on chin, and thin figure : dressed iu a shabby dark mixed coat, drab cotton cord trousers, with fly front, and black felt deer- stalker hat ; he is travelling the country seeking employment at coachbu lders. and represents himself as a coach wheel and body maker. Description of JOHN STEAD, of Allerton, clerk, who is charged with embezzling £ 7 5s, the property of his employers Messrs. J. Farrer and Sons, stone merchants, Southowram ; he is 27 or 28 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, rather ruddy complexion, brown eyes, dark hair bair aud whiskers, shaves on chin, of good education and address ; dressed in bluck billy- cock hat, blue cloth square lapped coat, light mixture trousers, with black stripe, blue striped woollen shirt, and elastic- side boots, aDd has a light brown overcoar. Information to be giveu to Supenntendant Ball, West Riding Constabulary Bradford, Yorkshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Borc- streel, July 31. Stolen on the 25th instant, from a lodging- house at Wan- tage, Berks, a pair of Blucher Boots, nearly new, brads in the heels and soles, and four brass eyeleis each side. By a tramp- ing tailor, who lodg< d there and left early that morning, about 30 yeais of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, fair complexion, brown hair and whiskers; dressed in an old black cloth irock coat, too large for him, black cloth vest, old black cloth trousers much torn about the seat, and high black bat ; he is a native of London, of Irish parents. Description of THOMAS WILLIAM MINSHULL, clerk, who absconded from Birmingham on the 21st instant, charged on a warrant ith em zzling various sums oi Money belonging to Mr. Cresswell aud oihers, builders, his masters : he is about 30 years of 8ge, 5 feet 8 inches high, fair complexion, whiskers inclined to sandy, small moustache, hair parted down the front, proportionate make, loose swioging gait., bow- legged, and respectably dres ed. Information to be given to Chief Con- stable Glossop, Birmingham, who holds a ••• riant fr his- apprehend"! .— Bow street, July 29. Stolen on the 20th instant ( by a man aad woman of respectable appearance, whose descriptions are givea below), from a jeweller's shop in Edinburgh, a gold half- hoop Ring, set in claws with five diamonds. They lived for two days previously at a respectable hotel in Edinburgh, and ordered certain articles of jewellery at the shop at the time the theft was committed, but paid foi nothing of any consequence. They weie accompanied at the hotel by another woman, now in custody, who is English, and in whose pot- session there has seen found a portmante u and an oval white wood box, the top of which haa a black glazed cover : both these articles bear traces of the owners having travelled much, and although the railway and hotel labels have been almost entirely scraped and washed off, including the maker's name from inside the portmanteau, it appeirs that thev have recently been at London, Ludgate- hill Station, Brighton, and Dubltu. They gave the names of Mr. aud Mrs. J. J. COURTNAY, and the woman in custody calls herself ANNIE MONTAGUE, and represents herself as lady's maid to Mrs. Cuurinay, and states that she and her husband were known to her as CAPTAIN and MRS. WILSON. The man is nervous, but the woman is quite self- possessed. The luggage referred to has been recog- nised as having been in possession of a gang of thieves who visited Glasgow abuut eight months ago, and then stole a diamoi d Cross from a jeweller there. The man is from 28 to 30 years of age, 5 ft. 9 or 10 in. high, slender make, exceedingly light fair hair, but not much of it, very slight fair whiskers and moustache, full pale coarse face, rather short nose, smart appearance, English accent, and dressed in black frock coat, light tweed vest and trousers, and black silk hat. The woman is from 28 to .30 years of age, ordinary height, slender make, sallow complexion, long face, glossy fair hair, well oiled, cut short, and all curled behind, English accent, and dressed in a black satin dress, dark tweed waterproof cloak, and small black bonnet. Information to be given to Mr. Johuston, Procurator- Fiscal City Chambeis, or to the Superintendent of the City Police, Edinburgh,— Bow- street, July 29. Stolen sometime between 1 and 5- 30 a. m., on the 26th instant, from a bedroom at the Saracen's Head Hotel, in the borough of Hanley, the property of Mr. Benjamin Halsey, the landlord, a gold J plate lever Watch, maker ' Frod- sham- Arnold, London,' on the dial No. 24002, with a gold Chain attached. Also, fr<> m a waistcoat pocket in the same room 6 Half Sovereigns and 9 Shillings in silver. By a man who had engaged a bedroom for the night, and who ia of the following description : 22 or 24 years of age, 6 feet 4 or 6 inches high, dark hair, no whiskers, believed to have a small moustache ; brown complexion, as if sun burnt, thin, slight make ; dress. J in dark mixture jacket, vest and trousers, black lound- topped tommy hat, with wtnte plated buckle iu baud, aud weais rings on his iiugers. Stolen between the 12th and 16th instant, from No. 32, Norland- road, Netting hill, a quantity of old Coins, a silver Geneva Watch, open face, silver Guard attached ; and a boy's suit of Clothes ( fancy cloth trousers and vest, aud short black cloth jacket).
