Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the pur- pose of obtaining or giving nformation respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signature of the person retiring or sending ti^ i same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to Mr. Vi. C. *.* Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As BO charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all betters addressed to th « Editor mast be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from the regular Amy, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Ma London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. INFORMATIONS. MURDER AND MALICIOUS!/? WOUNDING. JAMES LYNCH, charged with the wilful murder of Jas. Lavery, at Wellington Quay, on the 2nd inst., advertised in the Police Gazette of the 6th instant, is still at large ; he is from 30 to 35 years of age, and is supposed to be marked with the letter'D.' £ 50 reward will be paid by Government to any person or persons who will give such information as shall lead to. his apprehension and conviction. Information to be given to Superintendent Wookey, Northumberland Constabulary, Bui- man's Village, Newcastle- on- Tyne, or to Major Browne, Chief Constable, Alnwick, Northumberland.— how- street, May 18. Description of ARTHUR MACKAY, alias JAMES SMITH, alias JOHN SMITH, who has been several times in Holloway Prison, and who is suspected of having com- mitted the recent murderous outrage on a woman in Norton Folgate, London : be is 10 years of age, 6 feet 4 inches high, pale complexion, light brown hair, light hazel eyes, strong make, very prominent nose, scar on fore finger of right hand, small mole on left arm, and scar on left leg. Information to be given at the City Prison, Holloway.— Bow- street, May 18. ARSON AND WILFUL BURNING. About 10 o'clock on the night of the 19th instant, some person or persons set fire to a stack of Straw in the stack yard of Mr. J. C. Beal, at Bletsoe- park, Beds, whereby several ricks of hay and corn and farm buildings were consumed. Whoever will give such information as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders shall receive £ 100 reward, on application to Mr. Edward Campion, of Melch- bourne ; and if any accomplice ( not being the actual offender) will give such information as aforesaid, he shall receive the same reward, and an applicition will be made to Her Majesty's Secretary of State for the Home Department for a free pardon for him. Stolen on the 13th iistant, from a gentleman in Parlia- ment- street, a large gold open- face Geneva Watch, makers Bright and Sons, Sheffield, on inside case ; and a small gold ditto ditto. Also, from a gentleman in Bridge- street, a gold lever ditto, open face, wlite dial, maker Adams, Lombard- street, on face, No. 2704.— Metropolitan Police, A Division, May 22. Stolen on the 13th iistant, from a gentleman on West- minster- bridge, a large golc lever Watch, gold dial, black steel hands ( seconds) : by a mm, 45 years of age, 6 feet 7 inches high, pale complexion, ant wore a linen jumper; also, from a gentleman on Westminster- bridge, an English silver Watch, maker Garth, Bristol. From a gentleman in front of Buckingham Palace, a g< ld hunting Watch, engine turned, maker Bevan, Woolwich. No. 7338.— Metropolitan Police, A Division, May 22. Stolen from the persoi of Joseph Pye, of Edgmond, Salop, on the night of the 18th instant: a silver lever Watch, open face, consular case, maker Thomas Whiston, Newport, Salop, No. 23821 ; supposed by a man, about 25 years of age, 6 feet 6 inches high, brown hair, scar on nose; dressed in a coat and waistcoat of a brownish mixture, light coloured trousers, with patch on one knee. 10s. reward will be paid on recovery of the property, and conviction of the offender or offenders. Informa- tion to be given to Chief Superintendent Richardson, Welling- ton, or to Sergt. Christie, Newport, Salop.— Bow- st., May 22. Eacaped from the custody of the Police at Tow Law Rail- wsy Station, county of Durham, on the 19th inst., having been committed to Durham Gaol, for trial at the sessions, charged with larceny from the person : MILES JOHN CLINTON, an Irishman, a mason, 25 years of age, 6 feet 7 inches high, fair complexion, ginger hair and whiskers, has a great impedi- ment in his speech, generally wears silver wires in his ears, but had none when he escaped ; dressed in grey coat and vest, fustian trousers, black glazed cap, and a pair of elastic- side boots, with brown coloured tops. It is supposed that he will sail for Ireland, where his father resides. Information to be given to Sergeant Thubron, Tow Law, or to Superintendent Robinson, Durham County Constabulary, Stanhope.— Bow- street, May 22. Stolen from the person of a gentleman, about 9 p. m. on the 17th instant, at the Glegg- street Railway Station, Oldham, a silver lever Watch, gold hinges, No. 34792, maker ' James Winterbottom, Oldham,' on dial and on the works. A reward of £ 1 10s. will be paid on recovery of the watch, and conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to the Chief Constable, Oldham.— Bow- street, May 20. Stolen from the person of Joseph Pye, labourer, Edgmond, Salop, on the 18th instant: a silver lever Watch, was cleaned by Thos. Wiston, of Newport, Salop ; supposed by a man about 25 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, scar over nose ; dressed in a brown mixture coat and waistcoat, light coloured trousers with patch on one knee. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Richardson, Wellington, or to Sergeant Christie, Newport, Salop.— Bow- street, May 20. Stolen from the person on the night of the 9th instant, at Penrhyn, Merionethshire, a silver lever Watch, No. C090, maker Richard Roner Thomas, Portmadoc, and the name of ' Griffith Jones ' scratched on the inner case, gold hands. Infor- mation to be given to Inspector Hughes, Bala, Merioneth- shire.— Bow- street, May 20. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Further information and description of the man charged with breaking into the railway station at Bala ( advertised in the Police Gazette of the 20th instant) : he is from 27 to 30 years of age, 6 feet 3 or 4 inches high, hollow cheeks, has one or two front teeth which project, thick heavy black eyebrows, black whiskers and beard, and long straight dark brown hair ; dressed in a light plush sleeved waistcoat with light moleskin sleeves, cloth cap with leather peak ; he is an Irish tramp, pretends to hawk small wares, lodges in low common lodging- houses and outbuildings, and is in the habit of travelling North and South Shields ; has friends and relatives in Swansea and Merthyr, and is known by the name of JIM. Information to be given to Inspector Hughes, Constabulary Office, Bala, Merionethshire.— Bow- street, May 25. During the night of the 22nd instant, the dwelling- house of the Rev. F. H. Sutton, Theddingworth, was broken and entered, and the following articles stolen : A Musical Box, with a singing bird, tortoiseshell, with gilt top. A Miniature of Dudley, Lord Leicester. A Miniature, portrait of a gentleman, signed ' G. S.' A Sea), with ( Floreat Etona) gold mounted. A Seal, of agate ( Floreat Etona) silver mounted. A Seal, with horse drinking at a fountain, engraved, gold mounted. A Ring, gold, with head of Bacchus, engraved. A Ring, of black enamel, with Lapis. A Ring, gold, with antique engraving. A Ring, formed by two figures, with a carbuncle. A silver gilt book Cover, with dark green velvet, book torn out. A few old Coins, one gold, value 20s. of Charles I, another one, same value, of James I. A small silver Egg, for scent. A small metal Ornament of Algerian Work, with a Chain set with blue and red stones, 2 pairs of dark tweed Trousers, fly fronts. A black cloth Vest, with silk braid. A lavender coloured Overcoat, nearly new. Information to be given to Superintendent Iliffe, Constabulary Station, Market Harborough, Leicestershire.— Bow- st., May 25. A warrant has been issued for the apprehension of WILLIAM ROBINSON, late of Stafford, solicitor, for forgery, he left Stafford at the latter end of April, last, and has since been traced to Liverpool, where he is supposed to be at present and whence it is thought he may as soon as possible embark for America ; he is from 35 to 40 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, slightly made, straight dark brown hair, thin on forehead and crown, beard, whiskers and moustache, somewhat| Iighter in colour, pale complexion, high cheek bones, long features, walks erectly, at a quiet pace, sometimes having one hand in his skirt pocket, aud swinging the other, always appears to be engaged in thought, when spoken to often seems startled, and stares at the person addressing him ; generally wore a black surtout, light plaid trousers, a white hat, linen shirt front, and black silk necktie; he is fond of playing at billiards. Information to be given to Inspector Bowen, Guildhall, Staffordshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Box- street, May 26. On the night of the 17th inst, the residence of Mr. Neate, of Corsham, Wilts, was broken and entered, and five small old Tea Spoons, marked ' C. E. M.,' stolen therein. On the same night, the residence of Miss Fry, of Corsham, was also broken and entered, and three silver Tea Spoons, crest— an arm in armour, stolen therein. Information to be given to Superintendent Wiltshire, Chippenham, Wilts.— Bow- street, May 25. On the night of the 21st instant, the house of John Schofield, of Cross Moore, Romiley, was broken and entered, and stolen therein a silver Table Spoon and three Tea Spoons, marked ' P. ;' nine silver Forks, 6 of a small size ; about 3 lbs. of Bacon, and a small quantity of Tea Cakes. Information to be given to Superintendent Steen, Stockport.— Bow- street, May 25. Between 1 and 4 p. m. on the 18th instant, the dwelling- house of Robert Eleanor, of Newby Wiske, was broken and entered, and the following articles stolen therein : an old dark leather Purse, steel rim, clasp broken off, containing 3s. ; a pair of brown Trousers, full fall, with a small dark stripe, a piece let in behind the waist to make them wider ; two odd elastic- side Boots ; and a black hard bowler Hat. Two men are suspected, having been seen near the place : one about 30 years of age, 6 feet 9 or 10 inches high, stout figure, light hair, and pockpitted ; dressed in a shabby black coat, dark vest, grey or cotton cord trousers, and blue or black cap with peak : the other 25 to 30 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, stout figure, bow- legged, some peculiarity about the mouth, and large teeth ; dressed in an old dark coat, dark vest and trousers, and is supposed to he wearing the stolen boots and hat, as he left his own behind. They sold some hymns called the ' Colliers' New Hymns, No. 77.' Informstior; Lo be given to Deputy Chief Constable Howard, Northallerton, or to Inspector Smith, Thirsk, Yorkshire,— Bow- street, May 22. Further information respecting the burglary at the Trench, Salop ( advertised in the Police Gazette of the 16th instant): the whole of the property has been recovered, and warrants isued for the apprehension of: THOMAS GANDERTON, shoemaker, 32 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, fresh complexion, grey eyes, brown hair, ' E. R.' on left fore arm, moles on belly, on left fore arm, and on right shoulder blade, cut on right eyebrow and on upper left arm, and dressed when last seen in canvas or duck cloth coat, dark green plaid trousers and waistcoat. RICHARD BILLS, 26 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, stout build, dark complexion and hair, brown eyes, has ' R. B.' and four dots on left arm, and a cut below left eye ; dressed when last seen in a suit of dark green'plaid clothes and billy- cock hat. They are returned convicts. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Richardson, Wellington, or to Sergt. Christie, Newport, Salop, who holds the warrants.— Bow- street, May 22. Stolen at the Athletic sports, Northwich, from the persons of three gentlemen, on the 16th instant: 1 gold Watch, maker Walter Watson, Altrincham, Cheshire, No. 7685. 1 silver lever Watch, t ngine turned, maker W. W. Kent, Manchester, No. 20069. 1 silver Geneva Watch, with silver face, small h8i& broken off. Information to be given to Superintendent Roubottom, Middle- wich, or to Inspector Bohanna, Northwich.— Bow- tt., May 20. During the night of the 18ih instant, the dwelling- house of Mr. Stephen Barber, of Grimley, near Worcester, was broken and entered, and stolen therefiom : 4 old fashioned silver Tea Spoons, marked ' W. B. N.' 4 ditto larger size, marked ' B.' 2 silver Table Spoons. 1 pair of silver Sugar Tongs. 1 gallon of Brandy. 2 Sovereigns. Information to be given to Superintendent Phillips, County Police Office, Worcester.— Bow- street, May 20. On the night of the 17th instant, the dwelling- house of Miss Machen, at English Bicknor, was broken and entered, and the following property stolen therein : a Teapot and Stand, a small Waiter, three Pepper Boxes, a Mustard Pot, six Table Spoons, twelve Dessert ditto, twelve Tea ditto, four Salt ditto, twelve large Forks, twelve small ditto, two Sauce Ladles, Sugar Tongs, and Mustard Spoon, all silver, some marked ' H.,' some with crest— an owl, and some a pelican's head ; about £ 1 5s. in Money, and two out- door Keys. Two men, who called there on the previous day, aie suspected : one 35 years of age, about 6 feet 10 inches high, dark hair, small dark whiskers, fresh complexion, and Roman nose ; dressed in high- ciowned black hat, dark cloth c iat and vest, with gold chain and locket attached : the other 30 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, dark hair cut rather short, whiskers shaved off, dark complexion, round face, high- crowned black hat, and long tweed mixture coat, tinged with yellow. £ 50 reward will be paid to any person who will give such information as will lead to the apprehensiou and conviction of the offenders. Information to be given to Superintendent White, Coleford, Gloucestershire.— Bow- street, May 20. Stolen, by means of housebreaking, at Maresfield, Sussex, between the ICth and 18th inst., a black pilot cloth Jacket, about half worn, has one pocket inside oa the left aide, which 2 POLICE GAZETTE. May 25. is very dirty and has blood on it, two pockets outside with flaps, the lining torn at bottom ; a single- breasted grey tweed Waist- coat ; a black cloth Waistcoat, bound with braid at bottom ; a pair of grey and pink tweed Trousers, full flap in front, have been torn ( a three- cornered slit) in seat, and mended ; a twill cotton Shirt, with violet flower, machine made, marked cn flip ' T. B.,' with ink; a linen Collar, 14^ size, marked inside ' T. B.,' with ink ; a scarlet cashmere Necktie ; an old pair of balmoral Boots, a double row of nails round heels, and nailed very thickly in the soles with nails of different sizes, brass eyelet holes, and white leather laces ; two Razors, one with black, the other tortoise shell coloured handle, and has anchors, diamonds, & c., marked on blade ; a pocket Knife, with buck- horn handle, one blade and one race for marking timber; a pocket Knife, with long straight blade, spring back, and black horn handle, which has had throe round pieces of white bone let in one side of handle, the middle piece of which is out ; six metal Tea Spoons ; and a pound canister of Curtis and Harvey's Gunpowder. J. Mortimore, Esq., has offered £ 5 reward on conviction of the offender or offenders and recovery of the pro- perty. Information to be given to Superintendent W. Peacock, Uckfield. orany Police Station in East Sussex.— Bow- st., May 20. During the night of the 17th instant, the house of Mr. Potter, Plaxtol, Wrotham, Kent, was broken and entered and the following property stolen ; three Table Spoons, eight Tea ditto, five Egg ditto, six Dessert ditto, two Salt ditto, two Sauce Ladles, six dessert Forks, six large ditto, all electro plated, of the best quality, and marked with ' P.' with the exception of two dessert spoons and Forks, which are marked ' A. H. P.' or ' S. P. P.' also a large silver Teapot, chased, and spout forming a dragon's head, and a pair ot man's lace- up Boots. Informatiou to be given to Superintendent Hulse, West Mailing, Kent.— Bou>- street, May 20. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen on the 17th instant, from a stable in the Coal- yard, Drury- lane, a black Pony, white Btar on forehead and white fetlock ; a set of brass- mounted Harness ; and a costermonger's Barrow, painted red and black, * Daniel McCarthy, 8, Church- lane, Bloomsbury,' on shaft. By a youth, 16 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, fair hair and complexion, and dressed in a white jacket and vest, black cord trousers, laceup boots, and black cap .— Metropolitan Police, F Division, May 22. Stolen on the 18th instant, from a stable at the Alexandra Public- house, Channock- road, Clapton, a Horse, Cart, and silver- mounted Harness : horse dark brown, 14 hands 2 inches high, 6 years old, white on hind fetlocks, tail cut; cart heavy spring, name ' Robert Whately, Fetter- lane.'— Metropolitan Police, N Division, May 22. Absconded, charged on a warrant, with stealing on the 18th instant, a light grey Pony, aged, about 12 or 13 hands high, has a mark on the near side flank about five inches long, which was torn with a nail, but is now grown over with white hair: JOHN WEBSTER, of Wombwell, about 27 years of age, 5 feet inches high, light brown hair, fresh complexion, brown eyes, and stout built. Information!) to be given to Superintendent Fisher, West Riding Constabulary, Barnsley. — Bow- street, May 22. Supposed to have been stolen from Longville, in the parish of Eaton- under- Heywood, between the 17th and 18th instant, the property of Mr. Edward Wall ; a black Horse, 3 years old, 15 bands high, white fetlocks, tail cut square above the hocks, has been broken to saddle, and has loss both fore shoes. A reward of £ 3 will be paid by the said Edward Wall, on convic- tion of the offender or offenders, and recovery of the horse. Information to be given to Superintendent Baxter, Church Stretton. Salop.— Bow- street, May 22. The bay Pony supposed to have been stolen from a meadow at Lowestoft, on the 13th instant, and advertised in the Police Gazette of the 18th instant, has been found and restored to the owner.— Bou>- ntreet. May 22. Description of a man who absconded from Iron Acton on the 7th inst, charged with stealing seven store Pigs ( recovered): he is about 22 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, slight make, light complexion, thin face, much sunburnt, light brown hair, rather long and straight down behind, small light whiskers, and walks a little splay- footed ; dressed in a black cloth coat, dir'y grey trousers, cossack boots, and a white low- crowned lint ; carried a long whalebone whip, weirs a watch guard with a half- sovereign attache- i, and has relations in London and Cardiff. Information to be g ven to Superin- tendent Ellison, Chipping Sodbury, or to Police Constable Monk, Iron Acton, Gloucestershire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bono- street, May 20. Stolen on the morning of the 15th instant, from Marks Tey, the property of Daniel Tampion, a black Gelding, 5 years old, between 13 and 14 hands high, and very rough coat. Information to be given to the Superintendent of Police, Witham, Essex.— Bow- tireet, May 20. Stolen from Tasley Farm, near Bridgnorth, about the first week in May instant, a blood Mare, 15 hands high, badly hurt between the fetlock and the hock of the off hind leg, and a little lame in the off shoulder. Information to be given to Superintendent Ivins, Bridgnorth, Salop.— Bow- street, May 20. Supposed to have been stolen, from a field at Pendamen, near Crickhowell, Breconshire, during the night of the 14th inst., two bay Mares, 10 and 5 years old, the eldest a light bay pony, about 14 hands high, lame of the fore leg, near side, black mane and switch tail, and has lost a shoe off one of the hind feet; the other a brown bay pony, 14 hands high, with a long white mark on the nose, and white saddle mark. £ 2 reward will be paid to any person giving tuch information as will lead to their recovery, and apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to the Chief Constable, Brecon, or to Superintendent Evans, Crickhowell. — Bow- street, May 20. LARCENYAKD EMBEZZLEMENT- Absconded from Whitby, charged with stealing a quantity of wearing Apparel, which ha? since been recovered, the pro- perty of Thomas Duck, innkeeper, on the 20th instant; at man, about 40 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, dark red complexion, dark hair, rather curly, black bushy whiskers, broad features, has a cast in one eye, stout built, stammers a little, and speaks the South County dialect ; dressed in a dark brown short top coat, pockets outside, has been mended near the pocket, dark trousers, strong lace- ap boots, and round stiff billycock hat, he fiequents public and beer houses, has the appearance of a man who has worked in iron or public works ; was last heard of at Hinderwell, going northwards. Informa- tion to be given to Superintendent Clarkson, North Riding Constabulary, Whitby, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, May 25. Stolen on the 19th inst., from No. 3, Marlborough- square, Chelsea, £ 35 13s. By a clerk, who has absconded : 20 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, dark complexion, hair, eyes, and moustache, thick lips ; dressed in short dark coat with pockets on hips, striped vest, black trousers, and Oxford hat.— Metro- politan Police, B Division, May 25. Absconded on the 19th instant, from No. 3, Shrubland- road, Dalston, stealing a black velvet Jacket, lined with black silk, and 12s. in Silver: the servant, 26 years of age, looks older, 5 feet 7 inches high, ruddy complexion, red nose, dark brown hair ; dressed in brown and white check dress, black shawl with black and white silk border, and black bonnet.— — Metropolitan Police, N Division, May 25. Stolen on the lGth instant, from No. 66, Piccadilly, two copies of Webster's ' Royal Red Book,' and £ 15. By a servant, who has absconded : 50 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, sallow complexion, brown hair ; dressed in shabby black cap.— Metropolitan Police, C Division, May 25. Absconded from No. 11, Arundel- place, Barnsbury, stealing £ 2 : the errand boy, 12 years of age, fair complexion, sandy hair ; dressed in grey cloth coat, cord trousers, black cloth cap, and lace- up boots .— Metropolitan Police, Y Division, May 25. g Further information respecting ADA PORTER, alias WARD, charged with stealing a Savings' Bank Book, and thereby obtaining £ 9, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 15th instant. She is also known in Birmingham, having been on the streets there five or six years ago, she is now near her • confinement, and will most likely apply for admission into some union workhouse. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Richardson, Wellington, or to Police Constable ( 26) Purchase, Dawley, Salop.— Boic- street, May 22. Absconded from Walsall, on or about the 12th instant, JOHN McFIE, charged with stealing £ 83 of his employers, Messrs.
