The Names of Persons charged with Offences who are known but not in custody, and a Description of those who are not known, La ir Appearance, Dress, and other marks of Identity. The Names of Accomplices and Accessories, with every particular which may lead to their Apjjr el tendon. Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the pur- pose of obtaining or giving nformation respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to Mr. W. D. BURNABY, the Editor, Police Court, Bow- street, London, (" W. C. Whenever il^ s desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the nanu^ ls given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should^ e made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As BO charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor 311181 be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from the regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Ma London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. INFORMATIONS. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. JAMES LYNCH, charged with the wilful murder of Jas. Lavery, at Willington Quay, on the 2nd inst., advertised in the Police Gazette of the 6th instant, is still at large ; he is from 30 to 35 years of age, and is supposed to be marked with the letter'D.' £ 50 reward will be paid by Government to any person or persons who will give such information as shall lead to his apprehension and conviction. Information to be given to Superintendent Wookey, Northumberland Constabulary, Bul- man's Village, Newcastle- on- Tyne, or to Major Browne, Chief Constable, Alnwick, Northumberland.— Bow- street, May 18. ROBBERY AND LARGELY FROES THE PERSON. Stolen on the 10th instant from the person of a gentleman, in Macclesfield, a silver Geneva Watch ; the case is very much worn, maker Raffin, Geneva; No. either 2963 or 2965. Also on the 9th instant, a double- cased gold lever hunting Watch, maker, Johnson, Liverpool, No. 44984. Information to be given to Head Constable Etchells, Macclesfield.— Bow- street, May 18. Stolen on the 16th instant, by means of housebreaking, from the house of Mrs. Hussey, of Bridport, in the county of Dorset : twelve silver Tea Spoons, marked ' H.;' four silver Table ditto, ' M. B. a silver Dessert ditto, a pair of Sugar Tongs; a gold Watch, No. 39191, maker Baume, with some Seals attached by a very fine drop Chain ; two wedding Rings, one plain ; a pair of silver mounted Spectacles, and a German silver Fruit Knife. Also stolen, on the same night, from the house of George Richards, of Bridport, six silver Tea Spoons, marked • G. F. G. R.' and a few Coppers from a till in the shop. Information to be given to Superintendent MacHale, Beaminster, Dorset.— Bow- street, May 18. During the night of the 10th instant, the house of Mr. Harrison, called Tynrhas, in the parish of Llangyniew, Mont- gomeryshire, was burglariously entered, and the following property stolen: a dark cloth Overcoat, two pockets behind, two in breast, one inside and one outside; a black end white cloth Jacket, two pockets in skirts, and one in breast, nearly new ; a pair of elastic- Bide Boots, nearly new ; and a pair of strong lace- up Boots, lately repaired with patches on the toes. Information to be given at the Acting Chief Constable's Office, Welshpool, or to Police Constable Davies, Llanfair, Mont- gomeryshire.— Bow- street, Hay 15. On the night of the 13th inst., the shop of John Bradeley, of Trench, county of Salop, was broken into and the following property stolen: 6 yards of purple striped woollen Shirting, 6 yards of red, blue, and drab ditto, 12 yards of drab and white ditto. 12 yards of drab ( and other colours) ditto, 6 yards of purple and white ditto : 27 yards of Winsey, lavender colour ; several pieces of Prints, various lengths; a number of blue printed cotton Handkerchiefs, about 8 lbs. of Ham, and about 3s. in Coppers. £ 10 reward will be paid by the Trench and Horton Association for the Prosecution of Felons for such information as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Richardson, Wellington, Salop, to Sergeant Turner, St. George's, or to Police Constable ( No. 29) Barrett, Trench, Salop.— Bow streel, May 15, Stolen from Alton : Between 10 p. m. 7th and 4 a. m. on the 8th instant, the dwelling- house of Mr. H. Varndell, grocer, & c , High- street, was broken and entered, and about £ 3 10s. in silver, stolen from a desk in the shop, principally in half crowns and florins, a till was taken from the shop to the back premises, the silver abstracted, and the copper strewn about the place. The same night the dwelling- house of H. Hall, Esq , was broken and entered, but nothing stolen. Tho same night the dwelling- house of P. Crawley, Esq., was entered, and stolen therein : 2 old light spotted silk Handker- chiefs, with red ground and light flowered border, one a trifle larger than the other, has been mended down the middle, and marked ' A C.' in one corner with light silk, the small one marked ' P. C.' in one corner with light silk, both were used as old dusters, and can be identified ; also a common pearl handle Penknife is missing. 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, datk hair, dark whiskers mixed with grey, wants most of front teeth, thin face, marks of old cuts on it, round shoulders and light limbed. Dressed, when last seen, in a black monkey- jacket, light- coloured checked trousers and vest, white billycock hat, black band round it. A woman, who passes as his wife, generally travels along with him, accompanied with three children. He frequents low lodging- houses, and associates with the lowest class of horse- dealers. Information to be given to the Chief Constable, Jedburgh.— Boio- street, May 18. Stolen from a meadow, on the 13th instant, the property of Mr. S. K. Haward, of Lowestoft, a bay mare Pony, 13J hands high, 6 years old, with black legs, white star on forehead, square tail. Information to be given at the Police Station, Lowestoft, Suffolk.— Bow- street, May 18. Found, supposed to have been stolen, on the 4th instant, at B iughrood, a black pony Mare, aged, about 12 hands high, hind fetlocks white, small white star on foreb » ad, tail cut off above the hocks, in rather low condition. In mation to be given to Police Constable Thomas, Boughrood, or to Superin- tendent Massey, Presteign, Radnorshire.— Bow- street, May 16. Supposed to have been stolen from Chester, on the 1st instant, a black Pony, about 12J hands high, white star on forehead, coat rather rough, fine legs, hair rubbed off a little by the saddle. It is supposed to have gone in the direction of Shropshire or North Wales. Information to be given to the Chief Constable, Chester.— Bow- street, May 13. Supposed to have been stolen from a field adjoining the Market Harborough and Loughborough turnpike road, at Oadby, Leicestershire, on the night of the 8ch instant, five Sheep, namely, four lamb hogs, with a hole in right ear, and one ewe, with a hole in left ear, the property of Mr. T. Bunney, of Oadly. If stolen, £ 5 reward will be given by Mr. Bunny for the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders, and recovery of the sheep. Information to be given to Super- intendent Burdett, Aylestone, near Leicester, or at the County Constabulary Office, Leicester.— Bow- street, May 13. Supposed to have been stolen, about the lsr instant froc' a field near Northiam Church, a barren Kent Ewe Sheep, has a slit in the near ear, and a pitchmurk, * G. S.' behind the left shoulder, the property of Thos. Springett, Esq., of Hawkhurst, Kent. Information to be given at the Chief Constable's Office, Lewes ; to Superintendent Jeffery, Guestling ; or at any Police Station in East Sussex.— Bou- strcct. May 13. Stolen from the person of Thos. Howells, at the Carrier's Arms Inn, Bromyard, on the 14th instant, a silver lever Watch, Two men are suspected: one between 30 and 40 years of age, silver dial, jewelled in eight holes, spring above compensation 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, brown hair, no whiskers or balance, No. 7819, ' T. H.' on the outside case. Information to be given to Superintendent liar wood, Police Station, Brom- yard, Herefordshire.— Bow- street, May 18. Stolen from the person of a gentleman, in the borough of Cambridge, on the 11th instant, a small single- case silver Watch, maker Benson, Ludgate- hill, London, and a gold linked Chain, with a round link at the end larger than the others, a brass watch Key and a Key belonging to a Bramah lock attached. Informal ion to be given to Head Constable Turrall, Cambridge.— Bow- street, May 15. Stolen about 9 a. m. the 11th instant, from Eliza James, at Burnham Beeches, a silver cased small Geneva Watch, marked inside of case ' M. J.,' No. 16288 ; by a man about 24 yea. of age, about 6 feet 6 inches high, dark complexion, small df. rk brown whiskers, and appeared not to have shaved or washed for some time ; dressed in a dirty grey jacket, and billycock hat. Information to be given to Superintendent Dunham, Slough, Bucks.— Bow- street, May 13. BDSGLiEY AND HOUSE BREAKING-. During the^ night of the 14th instant, an office at Thorn- bury was entered ( supposed by skeleton keys) and the following property stolen therein: an office Drawer, about 7 inches long by 6 inches wide, with brass handle ; one Half Sovereign, 20s. in Silver, about 6s. in Copper, and six Postage- stamps, the property of Mr. Cliffe, brickmaker. Information to be given to Superintendent Ball, Court- house, Bradford, York- shire.— Bow- street, May 18. Between 11 a. m. and 1 p. m. on the 17th instant, the dwelling- house of Mts. C. Bagster, Old Windsor, was entered, and the following articles stolen therein : a silver Spoon and silver Fork, marked ' Alice Bemer Bagster silver Spoon and silver Fork, marked ' Ada Eunice Bagster;' a silver Spoon and silver Fork, marked ' Eva Rosa Bagster;' a gold Brooch, an Oil- painting ( likeness of a gentleman), in gold frame ; a gold Locket, one dozen German silver dessert Spoons, one dozen German silver Teaspoons, and a leather Purse, con- taining £ 12 in Gold and Silver. Information to be given to Inspector Reece, Constabulary Office, Clewer, Windsor.— Bow- street, May 18. moustache, small thin features, rather small eyes, teeth slightly projecting ; dressed in brown worsted cord trousers and waist- coat, brown tweed coat, rather long and light round crowned hat, with black band, and light boots. The other about 5 feet high, light hair, small light moustache, light thin whiskers, and rather full face ; dressed in dark clothes, blue necktie, and round crowned hat. These men are in the habit of changing their clothes, and are supposed to have an old black carpet bag with them. Information to be given to Superintendent Cheyney, Hants Constabulary Station, Alton,— Bow- street, May 13. During the night of the 11th instant, the Recruiting Sergeant beerhouse, kept by James Squalsh, of Weedon, was broken into, and stolen therein : a rough blue pilot Coat, much worn and mended on the elbows ; a black cloth Coat, mended on the elbows; a brown cloth Waistcoat, with black buttons; two light grey Waistcoats ; a pair of cord Trousers, mended on the knees; a brown calico Shirt and Nightgown ; a brown holland Apron ; a plaid Handkerchief; two pairs of army Boot Tops, with a circular mark stamped inside, having < F. Bostock, Northampton,' on the circle, and ' C. M. 1868' in centre ; two pairs of Soles, Welts, < fcc.; and a set of shoe- maker's Tools. Supposed by two soldiers of the 4th Battalion of the Rifle Brigade, who have deserted, and are supposed to be wearing the stolen clothes, as one of them left his tunic behind : one, Reg. No. 1026, 29 years of age, 5 feet 4J inches high, dark complexion and hair, grey eyes, a native of Ken- sington, London ; the other, Reg. No. 1626, 18 years of age, 5 fett 6 inches high, fresh complexion, light brown hair, hazel eyes, a native of Cornwall. Information to be given to Super- intendent Bailie, Weedon, Northamptonshire.— Bow- street, May 13. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen from a field at Handsworth, on the 12th instant, a black Mare, aged, about 15 hands high, long tail and mane, white face, one hind foot white, the hair rubbed off the right shoulder with the collar, and in good condition. Information to be given to Sergeant Richards, Police Office, Handsworth, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, May 18. WILLIAM ROBERTSON, or ROBINSON, a tramp, is charged with horse stealing : he is about 48 years of age, LAE. CENTAND EMBEZZLEMENT. Description of JOSEPH HIGGOT, a joiner, charged with stealing a quantity of joiner's Tools in the borough of Hanley, which have been recovered, haviug been pledged by him : about 30 years of age, 6 feet 5 or 6 inches high, fresh com- plexion, dark blue eyes, dark brown hair, rather curly, sandy moustache, and tuft of hair on end of chin ; dressed in short dark cloth jacket, light coloured vest, cord trousers, and billy- cock hat; supposed to belong to Dover. Information to be given to Superintendent Baker, Constabulary Office, Hanley, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, May 18. Stolen from a dwelling- house at Todmorden, on the 7th instant, between 5 and 7 a m.: a peach sillk Handkerchief, a red silk Handkerchief, a white linen pocket Handkerchief, marked ' Richard Coupe ;' six pairs of children's Drawers, worked at the bottoms ; a pair of ladies' Drawers, worked at the bottoms ; a black stuff Dress, bound and trimmed with beads ; a barege Dress ; three calico Chemises, two trimmed with fancy tape and one with frill round neck, each marked in front, ' Sarah Coupe ;' a black and white 6triped Petticoat, a dress Shawl, a large grey Shawl, a diaper Pinafore, a brown holland Pinafore, a white linen Apron ; by a domestic servant, who absconded the same morning; about 37 years of age, sal- low complexion, about 5 feet 1 or 2 inches high, dark hair, dark eyes, small nose, oval face, narrow forehead, four or five artificial teeth in front of upper jaw, lightly built, and stoops a little in her gait. She is supposed to be wearing some of the stolen property." £ 5 reward will be paid to any person giving such information as shall lead to the apprehension and con- viction of the offender, by the Treasurer of the Todmorden Prosecution Society. Information to be given to Superinten- dent Copeland, Halifax, or Insnector Hershaw, West Riding Constabulary, Hebden Bridge, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, May 18. Stolen from the house of Mr. Robert Tennant Tholthorp, farmer, between the hours of 9 p. m. on the 14th and 6 a. m. on the 15th, four white cotton Shirts, a pair of Bjots with brass eyelet holes, a grey cloth Cap with peak, peak bound round the edge with black cloth, and 10s. in silver. By GEORGE HUSCROFT, who has been living servant with Mr. Tennant, and absconded during the night with the articles above described. He is 24 years of age, 5 feet high, fresh complexion, black hair, rather stout figure. He has a mark from the kick of a horse on the left jaw, and stated he was a native of Skelton, near York. Dressed in grey cloth trousers and vest, cotton cord jacket, and will be wearing the stolen cap and boots. Information to be given to Superintendent Hunter, Heworth, or to Inspector James, North Riding Constabulary, Easingwold.— Bois- street, May 18. A warrant has been issued for the apprehension of JAS. AYTON, alias JAMES SUMMERS AYTON, charged with embezzling several sums of Money, the property of his late employer, Mr. Hayes, whom he left about five weeks ago: he is 27 years of age, 5 feet G inches high, slight limbs, rather full 2 POLICE GAZETTE. May 18. chest and shoulders, pale face, moustache, rather straight brown hair, hands and fingers thin and small, walks with a stooping gait, has a sharp look, and changes the expression of his face quickly, speaks quickly with the Norfolk dialect, being a native of that place, has a scar on one side of his neck near the ear, wears a ring with red stone on second finger ; he sings comic songs, reads at penny readings, is fond of billiards and theatres, and is likely to try for employment at the latter, and is likely to be found about some of the small houses or music halls ; when he left he had a black portmanteau, a leather hat case, a box covered with drab paper, stout drab overcoat, lined with black ground flannel, with small magenta or crimson diamond pattern, a suit of yellow drab clothes, black frock coat and double- breasted vest. Information to be given to Superintendent Stretton, Wilts Constabulary, Marlborough. — Bow- ttreet, May 18. Stolen from a lodging- house, in Thirsk, on the 15th inst., the property of Robert Campbell, a scarf Shawl, imitation of Paisley, flowered border with red stripes ; also a copper Kettle, round bottom, indented in several places, knob of lid loose. By a man of the following description, who lodged at the house, he is about 21 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, slender figure, pale complexion, light brown hair, no whiskers ; dressed in a black cloth dress coat, black vest, brown cloth trousers, a pair of black cord trousers underneath, lace- up boots, with brass eyelet holes, dark cloth cap with peak, dark woollen muffler, blue striped cotton shirt, leather waistbelt stated that he was a tailor, and that his mother lived in York. Information to be given to Inspector Smith, North Riding Constabulary, Thirsk.— Boic- street, May 18. Stolen at Swaffham Prior, on the 15th instant, a double- case silver Geneva Watch, No. 21763, with gold Albert Guard and small oval Locket attached. By a miller, on tramp, about 40 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, dark complexion atid thin whiskers ; dressed in black coat, dark grey waistcoat and trousers, and low- crowned bat. Information to be given to Inspector Greig, Bottisham, Cambs.— Bow- street, May 18. Description of two men against whom a warrant has been issued, charged with burglary and stealing a number of Dress- pieces, Shirting, & c, which have been recovered. There are still missing a piece of Winsey ( purplish colour), some pieces of Prints, and a few cotton Handkerchiefs : THOMAS GANDERTORE, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, sallow complexion, dark- brown hair, no whiskers, grey eyess, blue specks on left hand, scar on eye- brow?, mole on left arm and right shoulder- blade; dressed when last seen in a dark- green plaid suit, billycock hat. RICHARD BILLS, 27 or 28 years of age, 6 feet 3 inches high, fair complexion, brown hair, no whiskers, flat visage ; dressed when last seen in a white holland or duck cloth coat, dark- green plaid trousers and waistcoat. They are return convicts, and well known to the police in Staffordshire, Birmingham, Wolverhampton, and other places. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Richardson, Wellington, Salop, or to Serjeant Christie, Newport Salop, who holds a warrant for their apprehension.— Bow- st., May 18 Absconded from Cambridge, charged with stealing the Materials of four pairs of Shoes, entrusted to him to make up: WILLIAM CHAPMAN, a woman's shoemaker, about 38 years of age, 6 feet 5J inches high, dark hair, grey eyes, light complexion, round pale face, no whiskers or beard, high cheek- bone, stout build ; dressed in dark coat and vest, dirty Bedford cord trousers, fitting tight to the leg, lace- up boots, and dark cap. Information to be given to Head Constable Turrall, Cambridge, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, May 15. Description of JAMES LIDDELL, a commercial traveller, charged with stealing or embezzling £ 62, the property of his employers, Messrs. Robert H Thomson aud Company, wine merchants, Leigh, and for whose apprehension a warrant has been granted by the Sheriff of Midlothian ; he is about 36 years of age, 5 feet 10£ inches high, stout made, dark hair, brown whiskers and moustache, and swarthy complexion ; dressed when last seen in a suit ot brown tweed clothes and common black hat ; is a native of Glasgow, was last seen in Perth on the 5th instant. Information to be given to Head Constable Grant, Leigh.— Bow- street, May 15. Description of a man named DOMINIC , an Italian, charged with stealing at Mold, on the 12th instant, a French Piano ( which ha* been recovered), the property of Anthony Fisconia: he is 19 years of age, about 6 feet 4 inches high, light hair cut short, dark complexion, and a small blue maik on one of his cheeks ; dressea in black billycock hat, blue striped shirt, with white collar sewn on, black cloth monkey jacket, light mixture vest, pepper- and- salt cloth trousers, and a pair of lace- up boots, much worn. Information to be given to Superintendent Mold, Flintshire, North Wales, who holds a warrant lor his apprehension.— Bow- street, May 15. Description of JAMES KINGSHOTT, alias KING, a tailor, charged with stealing, on the 1st instant, a suit of clothes ( sinco recovered) ; he is also suspected of stealing a pair of black cloth Trousers, nearly new, fly fronts, and a pair of men's elastic- side Boots, pegged, fancy work on fronts, not much worn, which have not been recovered : he is about 28 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, slight made, round features, dark complexion, dark hair, very thick dark moustache, whiskers shaved off, rather bow legged, and a dark mark on one ear; dressed in an old black coat, brown and white speckled trousers and vest, black billycock hat, and lace- up boots ; is a native of Petworth, Sussex. Information to be given to Superintendent Pratt, City Police, Chichester, Sussex, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Botc- st., May 13. Description of ADA PORTER, alias ADA WARD, who absconded from Dawley- green, on the 11th instant, charged with stealing a Savings' Bank Book, thereby obtaining £ 9 : she is a prostitute, known in Shrewsbury and Wellington, 28 years of age, 6 feet 1 inch high, sallow complexion, black hair, grey eyes, and oval face. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Richardson, Wellington, or to Police Constable ( 26) Purchase, Dawley, Salop, who holds a warrant for her apprehension.— Bow- street, May 15. Absconded from Walsall, charged with stealing money belonging to his master, Mr. J. A. Froggatt, grocer, GEORGE NEEDHAM, an assistant, 29 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, thin face, light hair and complexion, nearly bald on top of head, whiskers on side of face, closely shaven under chin, has a peculiar twitching movement of the mouth when talking, weak eyes, and leech mark under left eye. It is supposed that he will sail for America or Australia. Information to be given to the Chief Constable of Walsall, Staffordshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, May 15. Stolen from the house of Leonard Massey, at Head- dington, near Oxford, on the 12th instant, a £ fi Note, with the name of ' Phillips' on the back : by a man, about 5 feet 10 inches high, 26 years of age, dark hair, very dark complexion, whiskers shaved off, and dressed in a dark cloth coat with pockets at the sides, dark cloth vest, brown snuff coloured trousers, red striped shirt, blue necktie, black round crown hat, and white buokle at the side. Information to be given to the Deputy Chief Constable, or to Inspector Yates, County Police Station, Oxford.— Bow- street, May 16. Stolen on the 11th instant, from the Red Lion public- house, Daventry, the property of William Smith, the landlord, an old fashioned silver verge Watch, ' Richard Smith,' engraved on trie dial ; by a man who lodged at the honse the two nights previous ; he is about 40 years of age, 6 feet 9 inches high, very upright, dark hair, slightly turning grey, dark whiskers and moustache ; dressed in dark cloth coat, brown knitted worsted waistcoat, dark trousers, black hard felt hat, with a white buckle at the side, had the appearance of a respectable mechanic ; carried a small bundle with him in a check hand- kerchief, containing a pair of calf skin slippers, with the hair on the outside of the same. Information to be given to be Daventry Borough Police.— Bow- street, May 13. Absconded on the 6th instant, from No. 84, Kingsland- road, Hoxton, stealing £ 7, a boy, 15 years of age, dark com- plexion and hair, and dressed in blue jacket, cord trousers, side- spring boots, and deerstalker hat .— Metropolitan Police, N Division, May 13.
