Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the pur- pose of obtaining or giving nformation respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Mgnature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POL. CE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to Mr. V. D. BURNABY, the Editor, Police Court, Bow- street, London, W. C. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As HO charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters* addressed to the Editor most be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from the regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Ma London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. INFORMATIONS. BOBBERY AID LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the person on the morning of the 20th instant, at Romford Essex, two Watches, one is an old- fashioned double cased silver, with Chain attached, the other is metal cased with Chain, and several brass Keys attached, maker ' Gout. No. 4485,' a Knife Fort, and Spoon in handle, and 2s. in Silver : by a man. about 30 years of age, 6 feet 5 inches high, dark complexion, dark whiskers meeting under the chin, and sharp dark eyes ; dressed in an old flannel jacket, old drab cord trousers, rent in the seat, and old black billycock hat, and is known in Cheshunt, Herts. Information to be given to the Inspector of Police, Romford, Essex.— Bow- street, April 27. Stolen from the person of a gentleman at Bolton, on the night, of the 23rd instant, t « o patent silver lever Watches, one No. 5192, the rings have been wrenched from both of them. Information to be given to Chief Constable Beech, Bolton, Lancashire.— Bow- sireet, April 27. Stolen from the person of a man on the night of the 12th instant, at Hardwick, in the parish of Norbury : £ 33 in gold and £ 25 in Notes, supposed to he of the Northumberland Bank. Information to be given to Superintendent Baxter, Church Stretton, or to Detective Sergeant Dovey, Bishops Castle, Salop. — Bow- ltreet, April 22. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Further information respecting the burglaries, committed at Honiton on the night of the 22nd instant, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 24th instant: a man of the following description is suspected : about 30 years of age, 6 feet 7 inches high, very fair complexion, light hair, light whiskers on lower part of the face, the sides ot his face smooth, and has a very striking and peculiar appearance and expression of countenance, and very fair skin, tattooed on the wrist, supposed with indian ink; dressed in a sott bowler hat, drab cloth jacket, bed ford cord trous< dark waistcoat, and lace up boots, and had a quantity c — ,- atches loose in his pocket. He was seen at Honiton on the evening of the 22nd instant, and can be identified. Information to be given to Superintendent Dore Honiton, Devonshire.— Boto- street, April 27. On the night of the 21st inst., or early the next morning the dwelling- house of Mr. R. blundell, of Hallon, in the parish of Worfield, was broken ai d entered, and the following articles stolen therein : a blue pilot Topcoat, single- breasted, black silk buttons, and a velvet collar ; a silk Hat, the band turned, maker E. Perry, Dudley- street, Wolverhampton ; three Coms^ viz., a half crown of George II or III and two American Bilver coins; two silver Tea Spoons, marked 1 B.' in old English; three pairs of Boots, viz., one pair of men's watertight lace- up boots, sprigged, and nearly new, one pair of men's plain elastic- side boots, pegged, about half worn, each boot with one new elastic side ; an alpaca Umbrella, with crooked handle, much worn; and a varnished oak Walkine- stidk, round handle. Supposed by two men : one from 30 to 36 years of age, 6 feet 5 or 6 inches high, Bandy hair and whiskers ( mostly on chin), flat broken noBe, and rouud chubby face ; dressed in a grey pilot or plain cloth overcoat, suppled light waistcoat, and glazed or blue cloth cap with brass button on each side of the peak : the other from 25 to 30 years ot age, 5 feet 8 or 9inches high, dark or sandy whiskers, chin shaved, of stern appearance, proportionate make ; dressed in dark suit. These men came from Wolverhampton to Bridgnorth, on the night of the robbery, and carried a leather case, about 20 inches by 10 " Whoever will give such information as xhall lead to the appre- hension and conviction of the Offender., shall on such conviction, receive a reward ot £ 30 fiorn W. S. Davenport, Ksq„ and £ S from Mr. Blundell, over and above the £ 15 allowed by the Stockton Association for the Proseeution of Felons; and if such informant be an accomplice, he or she shall not only be entitled to receive the above reward, but have every means exerted to procure a free pardon. Information to be given to Superintendent Ivins, Bridgnorth, Salop.— Bou>- st., April 27. During the night of the 18th instant, two dwelling- houses at Wantage, Berks, were broken and entered, and stolen there- in : a plain silver Chalice, about 8 or 9 inches high, a star with • I. H. S.' engraved on the side ; a red glass Cruet, silver mounted, the lid opens with a hinge; two plain silver Table Spoons, ' J. W.' engraved on the handles; a pair of silver Sugar Tongs, old fashioned figured round the edges; eight plain silver Tea Spoons, old- fashioned. Supposed by two men : one is about 27 years of ape, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, fair complexion, little or no whiskers, and dressed in a dark coat, blue cloth cap with glazed peak, strap in front, and brass button on each side, leather belt round his waist, and dirty appearance ; the other is about 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, fair complexion, small black whiskers and beard, and stout make ; dressed in a dark blown coat, black billycock hat, and is ot diity appearance ; both were like tramping smiths or foundry men. Information to be given to Superintendent O'Neil. Constabulary Station, Wantage, Berks. — Bow- street,. April 27. Three burglarips were committed in the High- street of Honiton, on the night ot the 22nd instant, and the following property stolen: From the bouse of Mrs. S. James, confectioner, entered from the back: a £ 5 note of the Wilts and Dorset, or Stuckley's Bank, about £ 2 in Gold and Silver; and three silver Tea Spoons from the kitchen. From the house of Mr. Henry Tovey, silversmiths, entered from the back, the following articles of plate, from a basket left in the kitchen : 6ix Tea Spoons, marked ' T.' in old English ; four Dessert ditto marked ' B.' in old English; twelve small Tea or Egg ditto, some plain, others marked ; three old Table ditto, chased handles, marks nearly obliterated; two Table ditto; a Dessert Fork, marked ' IV in cypher; two Salt Spoons, and a Cayenne Dottle with silver tops. The house of Dr. R. F. Mayne was entered from the back, but nothing stolen. The houses are all adjoining, and one back way leads to them. Supposed to have been entered by strangers to the premises, trying to find out the silversmith's front shop and contents, which are quite safe. Information to be given to Superinten- dent Dore, Police Station, Honiton, Devonshire.— Bow- street, April 24. On the niaht of the 21st instant, Sinicott's House, the residence of the Rev. John Hawker, was burglariously entered, and the following property stolen therein : a Tea Pot, a large gravy Spoon, a Salver, twelve table Spoons, nine Forks, six dessert Spoons, a fish Slice and Fork, two sugar Spoons, a top of a mustard Pot, and a top of a pepper Box, all silver. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Pratt, West Sussex Con- stabulary, Chichester.— Bow- street, April 24. During the night of the 13ili instant, the office of Mr. Dyson, corn miller, Isle- of- Cindey, Leeds, was entered and the following property stolen therein : a silver gilted Geneva Watch, No. 520 ; a Cheque, J. and D. Hatchinson, for £ 10 17s. ; a ditto, Mr. Bradford, Dundee, payable to Mr. Wade, for £ 5 ; Bank of England Notes for £ 45; £ 104 10s. in Gold ; £ 143 in Silver ; £ 4 Is. 6.1. in Coppers. £ 20 reward will be paid to any person giving such information as will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders, on application to the Chief Constable, Town Hal), Leeds.— Bow- street, April 24. Between 1 and 8 p. m. on the 15th instant, the dwelling- house of Mr. Robert Walshaw, Tranmere, Cheshire, was broken and entered during the absence of the family, and the following property stolen therein : 1 silver Snuff box, square pattern, engraved on lid • Pre- sented to Richard Morley, Esq., by a few esteemed friends.' 12 Dinner Forks and 12 Dessert Forks, electro- plated, and marked ' A.' 1 large Teapot, 5 Table Spoons, and 12 Tea Spoons, all electro plated. 2 silver Salt Spoons, one marked ' W.' 1 Sugar Basin, 1 Cream Jug, and 1 child's Cup, all electro- plated, and gold plated inside. 1 silver Medal, inscribed ' Goojerat, Chillinwallah,' name • Jas. Kennedy.' 3 gold Wedding Rings, much worn. 2 Keeper Rings. 1 small gold fancy Ring, set with pale yellow stones. 1 silver Pencilcase. 1 electro- plated Toast Rack 1 lady's gold guard Chain, single link, old pattern. 1 pair of long [ old Ear- drops. 1 small silver Snuff box. 1 silver pair- case verge Watch. 1 short drop Chain, Australian gold, link bar pattern, with a malachite stone in seal. The small silver Snuff- box ( without name), was offered for pledge in Birkenhead about 6 p. m. on the same day, by a man from 35 to 40 years of age, 5 feet 10 Inches high, very dark whiskers; dressed in a dark coat and vest, and black silk hat. A reward of £ 5 will be paid by the owner on recovery of the property and conviction of the offender, or in proportion to the amount recovered, Information to be given to Superintendent Hammond, County Cons abulary, Abbey- street, Birkenhead, Cheshire.— Bow- street, A pril 24. The house of Mr. Stevenson, No. 9, Marlborough- place Brighton, was burglariously entered on the night of the 20th instant, and the following property stolen : A Teapot, a Milk Jug, a Toast Rack, a loaf Sugar Ladle> all massive silver, and marked ' C. C. S.' A gold signet Ring, with monogram ' CS.' Two silver Thimbles. A new black Petersham Overcoat, with black velvet collar, bonnd with velvet. A pair of gentleman's batmoral Boots, lace fronts and spring sides, slightly worn. Two black Shawls, with fringe. A box of Cigars. A bottle of Whisky. And 9s. 4d in Mouey. Information to be given to Chief Constable White, Town Hall, Brighton.— Bow- streel, April 22. Between 7 a. m. and 12 noon, on the 18th instant, the dwelling- house of James Tattersall, of Fence- end, Thornton, Craven, was broken and entered, and the following property stolen therein : 1 black cloth Coat, with pockets on the hips, covered buttons, one inside left breast, in one of which was a silk Handkerchief, with red ground. 1 black cloth Vest. 1 pair of dark bro « rn cloth Trousers. 1 light drab waterp'oof tweed slack back Coat, two pockets outside, and one inside left breast. I Vest of same material, horn buttons, back of coat and vest lined with join. 1 cotton Shirt 1 purple and black woollen plaid Shirt, without sleeves. 1 pair of brown diab yarn Stockings. 1 pair of old elastic side Boots, off the welts. 1 puce and grey striped Petticoat. 2 new wintey dress Skirts, part made, one brown, and the otber r- id and purple plaid. Information to be given to Superintendent Airton, West Riding Constabulary, Skipton, Yorkshire.— Boio- street, April 22. Description of a woman charged with breaking and enter- ing the dwelling- house of George Parrot, farm labourer, Birkly, near Northallerton, between 3 and 4 p. m. on the 17th instant, and stealing therein a stuff Dress, puce and white stripes, the pocket of » htcli contained two Half Crowns and a butcher's Account : she is between 30 and 35 years of age, 5 feet 1 or 2 inches high, proportionate make, and dressed in a light cotton print dress, much worn, an old barege shawl, a handkerchief ov r her bead, a clog on one foot and a boot on the < ther. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Howard. North Riding Constabulary, Northallerton.— Botc- ttrect, April 22. Daring the night of the 18th instant, two houses in High- street, Abingdon, were broken into and the following articles stolen therein: twelve Dessert Knives and Forks, plated, mother- o'- pearl handles; a silver Cake Knife; a Mustard Spoon, marked ' T.'; a shirt meerschaum Pipe, in case ; eleven Dessert Knives, electro- plated, fluted plated handles, nine Forks to ma'ch ; three fiddle pattern Tea Spoons, engraved • P.' in old English, surrounded with a garter; two small plain Tea Spoons, an old Dessert Spoon, a Caddie Ladle, and two new check Dusters, with red border, half hemmed. Infor- mation to be given to the Superintendent of the Borough, Police, Abingdon, Berks.— Bow- street,, April 22. During the night of the 16th instant, the rectory at Potterne, near Devizes, was broken into and stolen therein : an old- fashioned gold Snuff Box. long inscription on it; a small silver Tea Pot, crest— a s* an's neck and head ; a small Ladle, a Gravy Spoon, tout Table ditto, eight Dessert ditto, four Tea ditto, and a Butter Slice, all with crest— an eagle rising from a mural crown ; a £ h Note ot L> cke of Co.' s Bank, Devizes; several Pounds in Gold and Silver, a quantity of Copper Coin, and about 16s. w « r h of P. s'a^ e Stamps. Supposed by two men, who were seen near the premises the day pievious : one about 35 years ol age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, dark hair, cut very short and turning grey, no beard or whiskers, dark com- plexion, has a peculiar countenance, and the appearance of a pugilist; dressed in dark clothes and black hat; the other about 45 years of ace. 6 £ e « t 6 or 7 inches high, light hair, beard, and moustache ; dressed in black coat, dark mixture cloth trousers and ves-.. and black bat. and carried a light- coloured jovercoat. £ h reward will be paid to any person who shall give such information as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction ot the offender or offenders, on application to the Superintendeut of Police, DcVizus, Wilts.— Bow- strict, April 20. During the night of the 16th instant, the house of Mr. Sturland, surgeon. Westbury. Wilts, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : a silver cream Jug, smooth pattern, a large silver snutl B< x, engine turned, 1 pair of Spectacles, silver mounted, a leather Case, containing surgical instruments, and a small sum ot Money iu silver and Coppers. £ 10 reward wilt oe paid on recovery ot the property, and conviotion of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Superintendent Abbott, Warminster, Wilts.— Bote- street, April 20. Between 9 a. m. and 4 p. m. on the 11th instant, the dwelling- house of Mr. Thomas Gittins, of Shidnall, Chirbury, Salop, was broken and entered, and the following property POLICE GAZETTE April 27. stolen therein, viz.: a black oloth Coat, man's size, not much worn, with pockets in the hips containing a Purse, with a £ 5 Note of ' he North Wales Bank ; black cloth Vest anil Trousers to match the coat; two Waistcoats, man's size, slate colour, wiih brown Btripes in them, one with pink back iu it ; and two silver Watches, one pair- case verge, withuut hands, made in Liverpool, and has ' Samuel Gittins, Shidnall,' written on a paper inside, the other a Geneva, nearly new, seconds hand, ' No. 78' and some other figure on the dial, and ' T. G.' on the stone of a gold seal attached. Supposed by two tramps, who were camping in the lane near the house the pre- vious day : one is about 22 years of age, about 6 feet 6 inches high, saudy hair, thin sandy whiskers, aud dressed iu the suit of black clothes, as he left his own suit behind him, hid in a heap of straw- near the house ; he is supposed to have worked with a blacksmith, as his clothes are very black and greasy, and the back of the vest is burnt in holes as it riddled with small shot ; the coat is dark brown cloth, and the trousers has lihing which appears to have been taken out of cord ditto, and are identified as having belonged to the above ; the other man is lame, aud walks with two sticks, is shorter aud older, and dressed in a dark rough coat, a sailor's blue shirt under it, aud cap with peak. jjT& ey had ballads printed by J. Wrigly, No. 3, Rochdale- road, Manchester, selling, and are likely to be found in some bye- lane, sleeping in outbuildings, or selling hallads in some fair or market. Information to be given to " Superintendent Casewell, County Police Otfice, Shrewsbury ; to Acting Chief Constable Danily, Newtown ; or to Police Constable Rogers, Montgomery.— Bow- street, April 20. HOESE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen from a field in the parish of Littleham, four wether teg Down Sheep, marked either with the letter ' G.' or ' L.' on rump Information to be given to Superintendent Holloway, Leominster, near Arundel.— Bow- street, April 27. Stolen from a stable at Oxton, Cheshire, on the night of the 20th or morning of the 21st instant, the property of Colonel Vincent King, a light brown Mare, aged, 15 hands high, thick set, in very ^ ood condition, black legs, recently blistered on all four, bang tail, wavy mane, and white star on forehead ; also a Saddle, with hollow pommel ; and a double rein Snaffle Bridle stitched to the hit. The mare has been traced into Lancashire. Information to be given to Superintendent Hammond, County Police Station, Abbey- street, Birkenhead, Cheshire, by whom a reward of £ b reward will be paid on recovery of the Mare, and prosecution of the offender or offenders.— Bow- strect, April 27. Stolen from a stable at Kinnington, during the night of the 23rd ins'ant, the property of Mr. Lt. Dale, a black horse Pony, 4 years old, 14 hands high, in good condition, two white legs on near side, white face, and marked with saddle on back, large wart under fore legs, several under belly, aud a square tail, also a Saddle and Bridle were stolen at the same time, aud an old Whip was left behind. Information to be given to Superintendent Knight, Police StatioB, Brigg.— Bowstreet, April 27. Supposed stolen from a meadow at the parish of Swans- combe, Kent, on the night of the 18th instant, a dark brown mare Pony, black legs, about 11 hands hLh, 3 years old, long tail, white star on forehead, and a little white on one hind foot. Information to be given to Superintendent Brandon, Police Station, Darttord, Kent.— Bow- street, April 27. Description of a cattle drover, supposed to be an Irishman, who is charged with stealine 11 Sheep, at Cleugh Head, near Brampton, in INovember, 1866, the sheep have been recovered : he is about 40 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, dark brown hair, and whiskers, dark complexion, aud slender figure. Information to be given to Superintendent Fowler, Brampton, or at the County Chief Constable's Office, Carlisle.— Bow- st., April 22. Stolen on the 3rd instant, from a field near Gelt Bridge, Brampton ; 2 cheviot Ewes, near lambing, marked with a heart in tar on the right side, and on the ear with the ' Geltstono' mark, ( under bit and over bit) and a Hogg : the ewes may have lambed before this. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Fowler, Brampton, or at the County Chief Constable's Office, Carlisle.— Bow- wect, April 22. Supposed stolen from the road side, in the parish of Sun- dridte, on the night of ihe 17th instant, a chesnut cart Mare, 16 or 16 years of a^ e, lo hai. ds high, rough coat, long tail, scar on side of right eye, and hair rubbed off hip, the property of William Collins, travelling hawker. Description of ARTHUR DURRANT, a travelling hawker, charged under a warrant wiili stealing a cart Wheel at Laugham, Rutland, on the 21st instant, the property of Mr. Wm. Baker, innkeeper : 25 or 26 yearB of age, ahout o teet 9 inches high, upright proportionate tnake. dark hair cut short, no whiskers, active appearance, and dressed in a ; dark coat, drab cord trousers, and soft felt hat ; he is a hawker of scented and other soaps, has a small chesuut coloured pony and old blue painted cart, with ' Arthur Durrant, Dealer, Nurwich,' painted in white letters behind, and the stolen wheel placed on near side, which is 4 feet in diameter, painted blue and picked out with black lines. He was accompanied by a woman, and a man, whom he calls his brother. Information to be given to the Chief Constable of the County, Oakham, Rutlandshire.— Bow- street, April 27. A warrant has been issued for the apprehension of WILLIAM HENRY PACKHAM, clerk, late of Brighton, charged with embezzling various sums of Money, of Messrs. Ilallett and Abbey, his cmplovers : he is about 22 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 6 inches high, fair complexion, brown hair, smooth face, no whiskers or beard, very slight made, smart appearance ; generally dressed in dark clothes, is very sober and fond of horses and races, and was last heard of at London Bridge. Information to be given to Chief Constable White, Town Hall, Brighton.— Bow- street, April 24. Description of a man who is charged with stealing 3 lbs. of silk Twist, the property of Messrs. Phipps and Son, Gold- street. Northampton : be is about 30 years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches high, sallow complexion, whiskers shaved off, and slender built ; dressed in seedy black frock coat, daik trousers, brown overcoat, tall bat, with very narrow brim, is a sewing machine repairer, and bad in his possession a few tools tied in a black handkerchief. Information to be given to Chief Con- stable Keenan, Northampton.— Bow- street, April 24. FREDERICK or FRANK JAMES, a working jeweller, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, light com- plexion, hair, whiskers, and blue eyes; dressed in a black frock coat and billycock hat, and of re- pectable appearance, absconded from Preston on the 14th instHnt, stealing and taking with him the following articles, which were entrusted to him for repair: a lady's Ring, with one ruby, set in coloured gold ; a large gold Key square pattern, with two stones; a plated Brooch, with red s'ones; a gentleman's gold Ring, stone mitsing; a piece of pure Gold flat and round, about 5 dwts.; a gold Brooch in the shape of a safe ; a lady's gem Ring, set with three emerald atones and two pearls in a row, coloured gold ; a lady's Rine, with five amethyst stones set in a row ; a pair of coloured gold Ear- rings, aquamarine stones ; a coloured gold Brooch, two leaves with a round centre and ' Forget me not;' a cameo Scarf Pin, cameo set in coloured gold; a lady's Rine, five garnet stones and pearl centre, one stone lost ; a gold reversible Brooch ; a gold Albert, belcher pattern, Locket attached ; a gold Pencilcase, round engine- turned ; a gold secret- link Albert, much worn ; a pair of dead gold Ear rings, set with two emeralds and a crystal in each ring ; a small gold Brooch, without stone ; a gold Albert Key, with green malachite stone ; anu a gold fob Chain, curb pattern. He also obtained, by false pretences, a silver lever Watch, No. 14532, sunk seconds, maker ' Joseph Blanchard, Preston,' on the dial and works, gold joints and balance, a pair of rubies, extra jewelled, and a small silvev Geneva Watch. : flowered back. All reasonable expenses will he paid on his apprehension. Information to be given to Head Constable j Dunn, Preston.— Bow- street, April 22.
