Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the pur- pose of obtaining or giving nformation respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to Mr. W. D. BURNABY, the Editor, Police Court, Bow- street, London, W. C. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should bo made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As HO charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, alS tetters addressed to the Editor eaust be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from the regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Ma ll. London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. INFORMATIONS. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. On the morning of the 23rd November, the body of Esther Baggott, wife of Moses Baggott, jun-. ot Heathfield BRIDGE, Moxley, was found dead near the turnpike road, between Wedneabury and Moxley, in the county of Stafford, with marks of violence on her throat and other parts of her body ; a coroner's jury have returned a verdict of ' Wilful Murder against some person or persons unnnown.' A reward of £ 100 will be paid by Her Majesty's Government to any person or persons who shall give such information and evidence as shall lead to the discovery a; id conviction of the murderer or mur- derers ; and the Secretary of State for the Home Department will advise the grant of Her Majesty's gracious pardon to any accomplice, not being the person who actually murdered the woman, who shall give such information and evidence as shall lead to the same result. Information to be given to Captain Congreve, Chief Constable, Stafford.— Bow- street, January 15. On the 15th of November last, Bernard Zusman was wilfully murdered in the parish of Stirchley, in the county of Salop. A reward of £ 100 will be paid by the Government to any person or persons who shall give such information and evidence as shall lead to the conviction of the murderer, and the Right Honourable Gathorne Hardy, Her Majesty's Principal Secretary of State, will advise the grant ot Her Majesty's gracious pardon to any accomplice ( not being the actual murderer,) who shall give such evidence as shall lead to the discovery and conviction of the murderer. All persons are accomplices or accessories who shall have counselled the commission of the felony, or, who knowing the felony to have been committed, received or assisted the murderer. All communications to be made, and information to be given to the Chief Constable of Shropshire, Shrewsbury, or to any of the Shropshire Superintendents of Police, or to the Magistrate's Clerk, Wellington, Salop.— Bow- street, January 13. MATTHEW CUTTS, JOSEPH BEARDSHAW, and JOSEPH ENGLISH, charged with the wilful murder of George Thirkili, head gamekeeper to the Right Hon. Lord Wharncliffe, of Wortley Hall, on the 11th ultimo, have been apprehended and committed for trial at the assizes, but JOSEPH GREGORY, the fourth man implicated in the offence, is still at laive : about 52 years of age, 6 feet 7 inches high, sallow complexion, whiskers round face, bald head, and stout build ; by trade a table fork maker, and worked at Shire Green, in the neighbourhood of Sheffield. Information to be given to Superintendent Fisher, West Riding Constabu- lary, Barnsley.— Bow- street, January 13. FORGERY. Further information respecting PATRICK MURRAY, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 8th instant, and for whose apprehension a warrant is issued : he forged and obtained cash and goods for three other cheques in Devonport, and is supposed to have several cheques in his possession still, which he may endeavour to pass; they are on the London and South Western Bank, Plymouth ; those uttered are numbered 30880, 30887, 33022, and 33024, and several others are missing from the same cheque- book. In addition to the articles described he had also with him a gold hunter lever Watch, enamelled dial, jewelled in four holes, makers Heine and Hoefler or S. Hoefler, Devonport, No. 8486 ; a mosaic gold Ring, set with a diamond ; a Pin, set with pearl ; a pair of gold Sleeve Links and Studs ; Albert and long Chains ; and two pairs of new Boots, elastic sides. He is an expert billiard player ; has a wife in London, supposed a barmaid in a public- house ; he went to London by the early train from Plymouth on the 6th instant. Information to be given to Head Constable Lynn, Devonport, who holds the warrant for his apprehension,— Bow- street, January 15. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the person of a gentleman, on the 17th instant, at North Shields, a patent lever silver Watch, No. 216CG, has a gold Guard attached. Information to be given to Chief Con- stable Hewett, Police Office, Tynemouth.— Bow- street, Jan. 20. As William Halstead, of Bingley, carter, was passing on the turnpike- road through Knab Wood, Shipley, at 820 p. m. on the 16th instant, with his waggon, he was seized by two men ( two others standing by), and robbed of a Florin, and 3Jd. in Copper. Information to be given to Superintendent Ball, West Riding Constabulary, Bradford, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, January 20. Stolen on the 12th instant, from a man while in Brill- row, St. Pancras, a silver Watch, gold figures, maker ' Pizzey, and a long gold Guard attached : by a man, 25 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, ark hair and complexion, no whiskers ; dressed in a brown clo. n coat, dark cloth trousers, and black deersta'ker hat.— Metropo van Police Y Division, January 20. Stolen from the person, with violence, about 1 a. m. on the 3rd instant, a silver Geneva Watch, with seconds hand, and plain cases. By three men : one about 5 feet 10 inches high, had on dark coat, light trousers, and black billycock hat; the other two men dressed in dark clothes. Information to be given to Chief Constable Beech, Bolton, Lancashire.— Bow- street, January 13. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Early on the morning of the 15th instant, the dwelling- house of Mr. John James, of Somersham. in the countv. of Suffolk, farmer. oiuKeu luw uy jour men, disguised, who stole therein about eighteen £ 5 Notes, of Alexander's Bank, Ipswich, £ 7 or £ 8 in Gold and Silver, a gold Keeper, a silver Tea Spoon, five plated Tea Spoons, and a bottlf of Gin. In- formation to be given to Superintendent Nagle, County Police Station, Ipswicb, or Police Constable Webb, Police Station, Offton, Suffolk.— Bow- street, January 20. Stolen by means of housebreaking, between 6 and 7 p. m. on the 17th instant, from the house of Mr. I. R. Mott, King's Heath: a dark mixture cloth Overcoat; a large Brussels Carpet- bag, nearly new ; a long black leather Strap ; three linen Shirts, marked ' I. R. Mott, Nos. 10,11, and 12 ;' a j- ipan Collar Box, containing six linen Collars, three lawn Handker- chiefs, marked ' I. R. Mott;' a pair of dark kid Gloves; 29 yards ot Irish Linen; a pair of new grey worsted Stockings, marked • M. No. 5 ;' a brown linsey Dress ; a crochet Anti- macassar ; a pair of japan leather Slippers; Martineau's Selection of Hymns, bound in purple morocco ; and a Counter- pane. A reward of £ 7 7s. from the Kingswood and Moseley Association, and a further reward of £ 5 5s. from Mr. I. R. Mott, will be paid to any person giving such information as shall lead to the conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Superintendent Humphries, King's Heath, War- wickshire.— Bow- street, January 20. The dwelling- house of Mr. Turner of Westhoughton, was burglariously entered during the night of the 14th or early on the 15th instant, and the following property stolen therein : a pair of lace up Boots, with brass eyelet holes, crimped, and nearly new, a woollen plaid Shirt, scarlet, black, purple and white colours, a pair of narrow striped grey cloth Trousers and Vest, a lilac and white woollen Muffler, three pairs of Stockings, one white, one brown, one blue ribbed, a single barrel Gun, without nipple, a gingham Handkerchief, 2 lbs. of Sugar, and £ lb. of Coffee. Information to be given to Superintendent Scott, Town Hall, Little Bolton, Lancashire.— Box- street, January 17. Description of THOS. JONES, alias TOM ARGARLAN, alias TOM GEGIN, a native of Lloc- Whitford, farm labourer, charged upon a warrant with housebreaking, and who escaped from the lockup at Holywell between 6 and 9 p. m. on the 9th instant : about 23 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, pro- portionate figure, light brown hair, and tbiu whiskers all round the chin : dressed in old black cloth cap, old brown velvet jacket, dark cloth trousers, and elastic- side boots, and is of dirty appearance. Information to be given to Superinten- dent Adams, Holywell, Flintshire.— Bow- street, January 15. The house of Pryse Davies, Queen- street, Rhyl, was entered by means of skeleton keys, between 6 and 7 " 30 p. m. Gii the 12th instant, and two silver Table Spoons, engraved ' A. LI.' and a large gold Seal with yellow stone, stolen therein. During the same time, the house of Mrs. Evans, Market- street, Rhyl, was entered; some Bread and Meat were eaten upon the premises, and a lady's gold Ring, with oblong grey stone with a cross upon it, and a gentleman's valuable gold Ring, of a joint or link pattern, with a large stone, stolen therein. A man of the following description is suspected : 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, dark complexion, black moustache, small black whiskers, bare chin ; dressed in dark cloth clothes and overcoat, patent leather leggings, and a high hat; he took a parliamentary ticket at Chester for Rhyl, at 7' 30 the same morning, and booked from Rhyl to Chester at 7 30 the same evening. In- formation to be given to Sergeant Ward, Rhyl, or to Supeiiu- tendent Adams, Holywell, Flintshire.— Bow- street, January 15. Stolen between 10 a. m. and 5 p. m. on the 9th instant, by means of housebreaking, from the dwelling- house of Richard Oakely, of Great Barr, Staffordshire: 1 dark brown Overcoat, with brown velvi i collar ; 1 dark cloth under Coat; 1 black cloth under Coat with cloth loop at collar; 1 pair of black cloth Trouseis, ith white cotton Braces attached ; 2 plaid Scarfs, one black and white, the other light and brown ; 1 grey striped woollen Shirt; 1 pair of blue worsted Stockings; a lady's Companion, with steel spring, black'colour. Informa- tion to be given to Superintendent Holland, Wednesbury ; or Inspector McCrea. Rushall ; or at any County Police Office in Staffordshire.— Bow- street. January 15. Between 6.30 and 8- 30 p. m. on the 12th instant, the dwelling- house, No. 1, Clarendon- ten- ace, South- street, in the borough of Reading, was entered by means of skeleton keys, during the absence of the family at church, and the following property stolen therefrom : Silver— 3 table Spoons, one marked ' I. Stephens, Blandy, and Co. About £ 5 in Gold, and 30s. in Silver. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Purchase, Reading.— Bow- street, January 15. Between 1 and G a. m. on the 11th instant, the shop of Mr. John Newell, of White Roothing, Essex, draper and grocer, was broken iuto, and the following property stolen therefrom : two men's blue pilot Coats, one boy's ditto, one grey tweed Coat, eighteen pairs of worsted Stockings, three dozen pairs of men's cotton ditto, one dozon pairs of women's aud children's cotton Gloves, two Smock Frocks, one plush Waistcoat, two pairs of twill Trousers, six short Slops, nine blue striped Shirts, a quantity of cotton Pocket Handkerchiefs, several Scarfs, twelve stove Brushes, one clothes ditto, some Coffee, 5s. iu Pence, Ss. in Farthings, and some postage and receipt Stamps. Information to be given to the Superintendent of Police, Great Dunmow, Essex.— Bow- st., January 15. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Found on the 5th instant, at Lymm, supposed to have been stolen, a bay Mare, a^ ed about 4 years, 14 hands higb, in good condition, add has a white star on forehead. Information to be given to Sergeant Dutton, Lyinm, near Warrington.— Bow- st., January 20. Stolen on the loth instant, from St. Mary's Hill, near Bridgend, a Cow, in calf, of the Hereford breed, aged, the property of C. Bassett, Esq. Information to be given to Superintendent Sadler, Police Office, Bridgend, Glamorganshire. — Bow- street, January 20. Stolen on or about the 2nd instant, from a field at Castle Bromwich, near Birmingham, the property of Mr. Smallwood, fishmonger, Birmingham : a brown llorse, 15 hands high, 6 years old, short maoe, switch tail, white star on face, turns the fore feet out when standing. Information to be given to the Detective's Office, or to Mr. Smallwood, Birmingham.— Bow- street, January 17. LARCENY AN 33 EMBEZZLEMENT. Stolen on the 13th instant, from 25, Nutford- place, Mary- lebone : 2 massive figure church Candlesticks, in polished brass, 28^ inches high, !: rass cresting on top, two angels at bottom ; 2 polished brass branched ditto, for three candles, about 20 ins. high. By a man, 22 years of sge, 5 feet 8 inches high, sallow complexion, light hair, whiskers and moustache sandy ( large), small eyes ; " dressed in a brown overcoat, light trousers, round felt hat.— Metropolitan Police, D Division, January 20. Description of a man who is charged on a warrant with embezzling £ 78 10s., the property of his employers, Messrs, R. 2 POLICE IJAZE T T E. January 20. Jones and Co., tea dealers, Little Tower- street : FRANCIS DEAKIN, Upton villa, Tredegarville, Cardiff, about 26 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, very stout, fair complexion, light browu hair and whisker meeting under the chin, thick lips, no moustache ; dressed in light cut off coat, with large horn buttons, sealskin veat, and low crowned silk hat ; he fiequents billiard rooms, and may endeavour to emigrate. Information to be given to Inspector Bailey, City of London Police, Detective Office, Old Jewry, E. C.— Bow- street, January 20. Description of PATSEY AVON, or HEVERAN, who has absconded from \ Vedne9t> ury, charged with imbezzlement, he is about 26 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, fair com- plexion, dark blue eyes, no whiskers or moustache, two toes on each foot are growu together ; dressed when last seen in a dark round jacket, with broad seam straight down the back, pepper and salt coloured trousers, an old brown vest, and dark snuff coloured c* p, generally worn on left side ; he is an Irishman, but speaks English well. Information to be given to Super- intendent Holland, Police Office, Wednesbury, Staffordshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, Jan. 20 Description of HARRY WILLIAMS, who has absconded from Portsmouth, charged with larceny : 35 years of age, 6 feet 6 inches high, black hair, blue eyes, thin face, very pale complexion, no whiskeis or moustache ; dressed in black frock coat with small coilnr, black vest without collar, black trousers, white shirt, bl* ck necktie, white turn down collar, and high black hat. He is a comic vocalist, and is believed to be employed in a Music Hall in the Metropolis. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Barber, Portsmouth, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, January 20. Absconded on the 11th instant, from the Duke of Cornwall public house, South I.- land- place, Brixton, charged with embezzlement: a man, 20 years of age, 6 feet 5 inches high sallow complexion, brown hair, tuft on chin sandy ; dressed in a black cloth cu t, light trousers, and black hat.— Metro- politan Police, W Division, January 20. Description of a youth, charged with embezzlement, from 70 aid 71, Oaktey- street, Lambeth : he is 18 years of age, 6 feet 4 inches high, fair complexion, light hair and eyes, slight moustache, and tuft on chin, mole on left cheek, subject to fits. — Metropolitan Polie:, L Ditisb n, January 20. Description of two lads, charged with stealing a Cash Box, from 113, Queen- street, Portsea, containing 4 or 5 Bank of England No'es. two of them in halves: a Cheque for £ 65 drawn by T. W. Haydon, on Messrs. Grant and Co., payable to T. C. Haydon ; and 3 Cheque for £ 6 2s. 2d. drawn by Edward Hale on the Bishop's Waltham Bank, payable to T. C. Hay don; and £ 8 or £ 10 in Silver. CHAS. ARTHUR CARTER, a blacksmith's apprentice, 16 years of age, 5 feet I or 2 inches high, dark complexion, brown hair, grey eyes, an old scar on one leg, from the knee to the foot ; dressed in round top brown felt hat, grey sac overcoat, dark mixture under coat, light mixture trousers and vest, blue and whit<- strip'd necktie, and side- spiing boots. WILLIAM PURCHES, 16 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, dark complexion, dark hair and eyes, slight built; dressed in dark round top felt hat, blue reefing jacket, dark trousers, and waistcoat. Stolen from Hurst Barracks, during the night of the 11th instant, a black cloth Melton- shaped Coat, lined with blaek silk, two pockets in skirt behind, and one in left breast ; a pair of light tweed Trousers ; a blue and scarlet striped Neck Scarf; and a white Crimean Shirt, with black bars across the front. By a private of the 70th Regiment of Foot: 22 years of age, 6 feat 9 inches high, fresh complexion, light brown hair, blue eyes. Information to be given to Superintendent Ludlam, Wilshaw, near Ashton- under- Lyne, Lancashire.— Bow street, January 16, Stolen from a shoemaker's shop, Dartford, Kent, on the 14th instant, the property of Frederick Chapman, two pairs of light balinoral Boots, a pair of side- spring Boots, a blue Bag, and a quantity of shoemaker's Tools ; by a man, a shoemaker, about 21 yea> s of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, dark swatrhy com- plexion, very flat nose, tooth out in upper front jaw, and scar on neck ; dressed in old black tweed coat, brown vest, cord trousers, and black velvet cap with peak. Information to be given to Superintendent Brandon, Kent Constabulary, Dartford. — Bow- street, January 16. Description of a woman who got out of the train at Cherquerbent Railway Stution on the night of the 9th instant, and represented that she was very ill ; bhe was taken to the Commercial Inn for that night, and left for London the next morning ; shortly after her departure a light plaid Shawl, 6 yards of black silk Velvet for trimming dresses, and a Brooch, the property of Rachel Wood, were missed : about 24 years of age, fresh complexion, has a small wen on forehead, one on neck under right ear, and one on chest; dressed in a black straw hat with feather, black paletot, green stuff dress, striped stockings, and elastic side boots. Ii formation to be given to Superintendent Scott, Town Hall, Little Bolton, Lancashire.— Bow- street, January 15. Absconded from her service at Middle Hulton, on the 8th instant, charged with stealing 7 yards of coarse Linen for Shirts, a brown and white printed cotton Dress, and a gingham bundle Handkerchief: a woman, who stated she came from Lamberhead Green, near Wigan, 55 years of age, 6 feet high, dark hair and complexion, stout make, and has a small wart on upper lip ; dressed in black bonnet, dark plaid shawl, dark cotton dress, and clogs. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Scott, Town Hall, Little Bolton, Lancashire.— Bow- street, January 16. Stolen on the 11th instant, from a lodging- house in New- port- street. Woicester, from five to six dozen ladies' and gentlemen's Rings, some second- hand ; two long gold Chains, secret links ; a curb Chain, weighing about 2 ounces; and a number of new and second- hand Seals and Keys. By a youth, about 18 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, thin features, long nose, light complexion, and dark hair ; dressed in light plaid trousers ( large pattern), black coat, and billycock hat; he is a Jew, and sometimes sells sponge-. '£ 5 reward will be paid for such information as shall lead to the ttpprehension and convic- tion of the offender and recovery of the property, or a sum in proportion to the amount recovered, oil application to the Worcester City Police.— Bow- sircet, January 15. FRAUDS AHD AGGRAVATED tSSISDSMEAHOURS. Description of ALBERT LIONEL HERWITZ SALOMONS, a Jew, late ot No 44, Leinster- square, Bays- water, who has absconded, charged with defrauding his creditors by pledging divers of his goods within three months of his being adjudged a bankrupt: 30 ) ears of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, brown hair, lather long and inclined to curl, long light brown whiskers and moustache, shaved chin, oval features, rather pale complexion, and proportionate build ; usually wears a blue yachting j icket, black hat with broad brim turned up at sides, and gentlemanly appearance.
