Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the pur- pose of obtaining or giving nformation respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may beer the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to Mr. W. C. * » * Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor minst be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from the regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Ma ll. London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. INFORMATIONS. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNMNG. Description of WILLIAM FENNER, of Colchester, dealer in . Norwegian and Welsh ponies, charged with com- mitting a murderous assault upon Mr. Benjamin Bather, of Colchesttr on the night of the 31st ultimo: about 35 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 0 inches high, fresh complexion, dark brown hair and small whiskers, rather long thin features, middle size, and has the appearance of a respectable horse dealer. He is well known in many parts of Wales and in all market towns in the Eastern counties, where he attends with large droves of ponies. Information to be given to Head Constable Doavnes, Town Hall, Colchester, Essex, who holds a warrant for his appre- hension.— Bow- street, November 6. Description of WILLIAM DANIEL WEBB, of Epworth, lodging- house keeper, who was remanded at the Police Station until the 1st ins'ant, on the charge of attempting to murder Jane Ann Webb, his wife, and who escaped from custody about 8 p. m. on the 29th ultimo : he is 43 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, brown hair, whiskers, and eyes, sallow com- plexion, small hole in one cheek, and a wound across his throat ( he havi g attempted to commit suicide) which is bandaged up with s'icking plaster ; dressed in a brown velvet jacket with pockets in the sides, brown cord trousers, two dark vests, black m ihair or rough cloth cap, and old blucber boots very much worn. He is a tinman and grinder by trade, and has travelled the country making up tin wares in lodging- houses, and may be found in the company of tinmen. He has been employed for some time as a sweep. Information to be given to Superintendent Henson, Epworth, near Bawtry, who holds a warrant for his apprehension, or to the Chief Constable of the County of Lincoln, by whom £ 10 reward will be paid on the delivery of the prisoner into the custody of the County Police.— Bow- street, November 4. FORGERY. Description of a man, for whose apprehension a warrant bus been issued, charg d with forgery : JOHN McFARLANE ( supposed fictitious), stated that he belonged to Glasgow, about 23 years of age, about 5 feet 10 inches high, ordinary build, dark straight hair, no whiskers, high cheekbones, has an impediment in his speech, and slovenly gait; dressed in a dark coat, dink cord trousers, dark cap, and strong tacketed boots. lnfoimation to be given to the Superintendent of Police, Berwick- upon- Tweed.— Bow- street, November 11. ROBBERY AND LARGISNY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the person of a gentleman at Chester, on the 5fh instant, a gold lever Watch, No. 20602, makers Litherland, Davies, & Co., Liverpool: £ 3 reward will be paid to any one giving Bnch information as shall lead to its recovery and con- viction of the offender or offenders ; also stolen on the same dav a silver lever Watch, No 9G952, maker Moreland, Chester. Description of JOSEPH TAMMS, of Hanley, in the county of Stafford, panan figure maker, charged with stealing from the person of Thomas Langley, on the 24th ultimo, at ' Hanley, the sum of £ 18 10s. in Gold : he is 28 or 30 years of age, 6 feet 0 or 10 inches high, slight build, high cheek bones, sunken cheek, small chin, full mouth, prominent teeth, grey eyes, dark browu hair, sandy moustache, tuft of hair on chin ; dressed when last seen in a black tommy hat, dark grey cloth jacket, black cloth waistcoat, light coloured trousers, and is of shabby appearance. Intormation to be given to Superintendent Baker, Police Station, Hanley, who holds a warrant for his apprehension, or at any Police Station in the county.— Bow- street, November 4. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Stolen between 9 a. m. and 8' 30 p. m. on the 4th instant, from a dwelling- house in Bolton : a small silver Watch, maker R. Summersgill, Preston, No. 1114 ; a long gold Watchguard, to which waB attached a pair of gilt. Eye- gla6ses ; a gold Brooch set with three rubies ; and about £ 2 in Money. Entrance was effected by unfastening the kitchen window. Information to be given to Chief Constable Beech, Bolton, Lancashire.— Bow- street, November 8. During the night of the 5th instant, the Stag and Hounds public- house, in the borough of Basingstoke, was broken and entered, and there were stolen therein a light tweed Coat, pearl buttons, lining torn in the back, two pockets outside and one inside breast; a pair of elastic side- spring Boots, without nails ; a light silk Pocket- handkerchief ; a bottle of Brandy ; part of a loaf of Bread; | lb. of Butter ; and about 10s. in small Silver and Coppers. Supposed by a tramp, about 6 feet 10 inches high, middle age, stoops; dressed in ole long dark coat. Information to be given to Superintendent Hibbert, Basingstoke, Hants.— Bow- street, November 8. Stolen by means of housebreaking, from the- dwelling- house of D. McAlpin, Esq., at Botcherby, near Carlisle, at 1 a. m. on the 5th instant : 8 silver Spoons : seven dessert and one gravy, all marked « C.' 2 silver Salt Cellars, marked ' C.' 1 plated Salver ( small size). 1 plated Cruet- stand. 1 pair of silver Sugar Tongs, marked 1 C ' or ' C. R.' 10 silver Table Spoons, marked ' C.' 1 silver Sugar Spoon, spade shape. 1 new leather Portemonnaie, containing 7s. in Silver and 12 Postage Stamp?. 14s. in silver, consisting of 2 Half- Crowns, three 2s. Pieces, and 3 Shillings, Supposed by three tramps. Information to be given to Super- intendent Taylor, County Constabulary Office, Carlisle.— Bow- street, November 8. Absconded, charged with burglary at Parkside, near llalt- wliistle, Northumberlxnd, on the night of the 24th ultimo: PATRICK LAEFERTY, alias TALLHAIR, a hawker, 31 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, da k hrown hair, grey eyes, swarthy face and pockmarked. MICHAEL LYNCH, alias FLYN, a labourer, 22 years of age, 6 feet 8 inches high, dark hair, black eyes, fiet. h complexion, white mark on ball of left eye. They came out of Perth Gaol on the 13th or 14th ultimo, where they h d been imprisoned for 9 months for housebreaking in Berwickshire. Lafferty is a noted house- breaker, and is well- known iu 60tue parts of Scotland, Cumber- laud, and Northumberland. Information to be given to Superintendent Stephenson, Hexham, who holds a warrant for their apprehension.—' Bow- street, November 8. During the night of the 3rd instant, the dwelling- house of Thomas Stringer, ot Kirkheaton, near Huddersfi.- ld, was entered by means of lifting a sash of one of the low windows which was left unfastened, and the following Money stolen therein : two £ 5 Notes, one of the Bradford Bank, the other of the Hud- dersfield Bank ; £ 27 in Gold ; £ 8 in Silver, and a pair of small brass Scales for weighing gold. Information to be given to Superintendent Heaton, West Riding Constabulary, Hudders- field.— Bow- street, Nov mber G. During the night of the 1st instant, the dwelling- house of Lady Goodricke, in the borough of Tewkesbury, was broken and entered, and Btolen therein : sixteen old- fashioned ribbed silver handled Knives, small size, crest— lion with battle- axe, makers Storr and Mortimer ; twelve large ditto, same crest and makers ; two silver handled carving Knives, one large and one small ; three silver carving Forks; a silver- pluted toast Rack ; and a small wicker Basket, lined with green baize. Two men are suspected : one about 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, whiskers meeting under the chiu ; dressed in dark clothes and high- crowned black hat, and of gentlemanly appearance : the other has the appearance of a trainp, and is dressed in a suit of light clothes. They may be found apart. Information to he given to Superintendent Day, Cheltenham, or to Sergeant Whitman, Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire.— Bow- strcct, November 6. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen from a field, at High Holstow, near Rochester, between the 3rd and 4th instant : a light brown Horse, hog mane, 12 hands high, aged ; a dark brown Cob, aged, 12 hands high, white stripe down face; and a dark brown Pony, aged, 10 hands high, off hock swollen ; the property of Edward Hambrook and Stephen Cox. Information to be given to Superintendent Everist, Chatham.— Bow- street, November 11. Stolen from a field at Ashchurch, on the night of the 2nd instant, a ewe Lamb, with brown legs and face, pitch marked ' W.' and a cross on the sides, and a small hole punched in the left ear ; the Jproperty of Mr. Woodward, of Northway House, who will give a reward of £ 2 upon the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Sergeant Du'ton, Police Station, Beckford, Gloucester- shire.— Bow- street, November 11. Supposed stolen from a field at Crofton, Great Bedwin, Wilts, the property Frederick Beavis, between 8 p. m. on 6th and 7 a. m. on 6th : a brown Horse, about 1G hands high, some hair rubbed off the forehead, long tail, and dark brown legs. Information to be given to Superintendent Stretton, Marl- borough, Wilts.— Bow- street, November 8. Stolen on the night of the 6th instant, from The Holm- wood Common, the property of Solomon Pledge : a light bay Horse, 6 years old, 14 bands high, two white saddle marks on oft side, a small cut on each knee. Also a light spring Cart, painted brown, one set of pony dung cart Harness, two Bridles with brasses on winkers, and a halter with one hemp Rein. Information to be given to Superintendent Page, Dorking, Surrey.— Bow- street, November 8. Supposed to have been stolen from Hope Farm, Folkestone, 5 wether Lambs, marked ' J. S.' in pitch, supposed on nearside. Information to be given to Superintendent English, Kent County Constabulary, Seabrook, near Sandgate, Kent.— Bow- street, November 8. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT- Stolen between 1 and 2 p. m. on the 6th instant, from the Railway Inn, Hamsel Bridge, Rotherfield. Sussex, a silver lever Watch, capped and jewelled in two holes, seconds hand, maker I. or J. Ninnis, Tunbridge Wells, No. 14053, 14187, or 14543, has no glass or chain. By a man, 25 to 30 years of age, 6 feet 9 or 10 inches high, dark hair, few whiskers, and small dark moustache ; dressed in a long dark coat, dark brown trousers, black kid gloves, and dark billycock hat. Information to be given at the Chief Constable's Office, Lewes, or at any Police Station in East Sussex.— Bow- street, November 11. Absconded from Leeds, on the 18tb instant, WILLIAM HENRY HARTLEY, a fraudulent bankrupt, for whose apprehension a warrant has been issued : 28 to 30 years of age, 6 feet 7 to 9 inches high, light complexion, brown hair, - whiskers, and moustache, stout build, cast in one eye; a cabinet maker. Absconded on the 21st ultimo, a man charged with felony : 24 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, fair complexion, thin features; dressed in light coat and trousers, and dirk cap: a labourer, a native of Birmingham, where he is supposed to have gone.— Metropolitan Police, L Division, November 11. Description of a man who abscond d from Salisbury, on the 4th instant, chargod with stealing a black leather Bag, a lady's sable Muff, a pair of leather Laggings, and some garden Tools ; he is a jobbing gardener, about 26 years of age, 6 feet 4£ inches high, stout built, round face, pile com- plexion, brown hair and whiskeis, and very short neck; dressed in an old suit of dark clotbes, and low square black hat very shabby, and lias the appearance of a shoemaker; a warrant has been granted for his apprehension. Absconded from Penygeilau, in the parish of Corwen, between 10 p. m. on the 3rd and 6 a. m. on the 4th instant, charged with stealiug from the sleeping room of David Jones, his master, the sum of £ 2 in Gold and 10s. in Silver : a man, who said he was a native of the neighbourho d of Ruabon, but is supposed to be a native of Newbridge, Radnorshire, 20 or 22 years of age, 6 feet 2 or 5 inches high, dark sallow complexion, dark hair and eyes, little whiskers, downcast look, supposed to have a cast in one of his eyes, and blue marks on hack of left hand ; dressed in dark brown cloth quilted hat, long dark blue monkey jacket, black cloth vest, cotton cord trousers, and old lace- up boots. Information to be given to Sereeant Williams, Corwen, Merionethshire.— Bow- street, November 8. Description of a man charged with stealing a small gold Chain ( Indian), and three gold Studs, with a fly painted thereon, together with a gold link : 24 years of age, 6 feet 8J inches high, fresh complexion, black hair, blue eyes ; a native of Killew, Tipperary, a soldier, he having deserted from the 18th Royal Irish Regt., at Chester, on the 5th instant, has been an officer's servant, and was dressed in a dark tweed suit.
