Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the pur- pose of obtaining or giving nformation respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may beer the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to Mr. W. D. BURNABY, the Editor, Police Court, Bow- street, London, W. C. *,* Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As HO charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all betters addressed to the Editor enlist be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the Name3 and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from the regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Mall, London, S. \ V.,"* as they cannot be published without his authority. INFORMATIONS. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. Absconded from Redditch, Worcestershire, on the 7th instant, charged on a warrant with causing grievous bodily harm to one Charles Brown : THOMAS SMITH, a navvy, 23 years of age, fi feet 8 inches high, dark complexion and hair, no whiskers, long features, stout build, scars on face, and one or both of his eyes blacked ; dressed in a short pilot jacket with pockets inside^ dprk vest and trousers, strong nailed lace- up boots. And ARCHIBALD POOL, about 19 years of'age, 5 feet 7 inches high, ruddy complexion, no whiskers, has one of his front teeth decayed, proportionate make. They will probably seek work on some new line of railway. Information to be given to Superintendent Bevan, Police Office, Broms- grove, or to Sergeant Brown, Police Station, Redditch.— Boa- street, October II. ARSON AND WILFUL BURNING- On the 18lh instant, at 10 p. m.. an attempt was made to set fire to the City Police Station, Chester, by throwing upon the roof thereof a quantity of explosive material known as Greek Fire. A reward of £ 100 will be paid by the Corporation of Chester to any person giving such information as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given'to the Chief Constable, Chester.— Bow- street, October 21. BOBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the person of William Bartlett, at Preston- next- Faversham, on the 9th instant, about £ I 17s. By four men : Jst, 30 years of age, about 5 feet C inches high, dark spots ( like ink) on his face, fair complexion, dressed in ragged brown coat; 2nd, about 30 years of age, 6 feet 3 inches high, sells nuts ; 3rd, about 22 years of age, boyish looking, delicate swarthy complexion, plays a tin whistle ; 4th, has been appre- hended, and remanded to 23rd instant. Information to be given to Superintendent Green, Sittingbourne, or to Sergeant Bassett, Kent County Constabulary, Preston- next- Faversham. — Bow- street, October 21. Supposed stolen, on the 11th instant, from the person of Mary Horner, in the corn market, Leyburn : a brown leather Purse, containing four £ 5 Notes of the Darlington Bank, 8ix Sovereigns, and one half Sovereign, 12 postage Stamps, and a dog Licence. Information to be given to Super- intendent Walmsley, North Riding Constabulary, Leyburn.— Bou>- street, October 14 Stolen from the person of George Mott, at Thame Fair, on the 11th instant, a silver Watch, No. 880G, maker Thomas Robinson, London. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Ferrisby, or Inspector Yates, County Police Station, Oxford, or to Sergeant Ilawtin, Thame, Oxon.— Bow- street, October 14. Stolen from the person of ANN WALKER, at Thame, Oxon, on the llth in6t, a canvas Purse, containing £ 11 12s. 6d. in Gold and Silver, and a Cheque for £ 12 on the Chipping Norton and Kidderminster Bank, signed Thomas Berry, pay- able to Ann Walker. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Fernsby, or Inspector Yates, County Police Station, Oxford, or to Sergeant Hawtin, Thame, Oxon.— Bow- street, Octobcr 14. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Stolen between 9 a. m. and 4 p. m, on the 16th instant, by means of housebreaking, from the cottage of Thomas Hassall, New- street- lane, Drayton, a pair of black cloth Trousers, nearly new ; a black cloth Vest, single breasted roll collar ; a calico Shirt, cloth front ; a cloth Shivt; two print Shirts, one pink and the other blue ; a small Cheese ; and a loaf of Bread. In- formation to be given to Sergeant Scale, Market Drayton, Salop.— Bow- street, Octobcr 21. Further information respecting the burglaries committed at Worth, Sussex, on ( he night of the 10th instant : a gold Snuff Box with figured lid, a gold Sea), and a pair of gold Spectacles, were also stolen from the house of the Rev. W. H. Hoare ; and a further reward of £ 25, to that already offered, will be paid to any person who will give such information as shall lead to the conviction of the offender or offenders, on application to Superintendent ICennard, Police Station, East Grinstead, Sussex.— Bow- street, October 21. Between 10 a. m. and 1 p. m. on the 18th instant, the dwelling- house of Mr. Thomas , of Westbourne Villa, Abbey Foregate, Shrewsbury, was entered by the drawinj- room window, and the following property stolen therein : a silver cream Jug and four silver table Spoons, marked ' T. a silver butter Knife and a silver pickle Fork, marked 1 E. D.;' a pair of silver sugar Tongs, marked ' T. M. T. four electro- plated dessert Spoons; and two tea Spoons. £ 3 reward will be paid by Mr. Thorns on the conviction of the offenders and recovery of the property. Information to be given to Chief Constable Hughes, Shrewsbury.— Bow strcet, October 21. Between 9 a. m. and 3 p. m. on the 19th instant, a cottage at Newent was broken into during the absence of the inmates, and the following articles stolen therein : a small rough pilot cloth Coat, nearly new, pockets outside, lined with black and red plaid ; a pair of men's light country- made lace- up Boots, brass eyelet holes, sprigs in heels ; an old- fashioned silver verge Watch, maker George Lowe, Gloucester, No. 555 ; an old dark single- breasted Vest, second button from top off, third broken ; a blue and white striped bundle Handkerchief, and a brown rough cloth. Supposed by two men and a boy, who were seen near the premises : one is about 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, lost one hand, has an iron hook as a substitute, and dressed in dark shabby clothes ; the second is about 27 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, stout make, and dressed in dark clothes ( supposed in a guernsey shirt) ; the boy is about 17 years of age, 6 feet 2 inches high, thin make, and dressed in dark clothes. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Griffin, Gloucester.— Bow- street, October 21. On the night of the 14th instant, the dwelling- house of Mr. George Billington, farmer, of Wendover, Bucks, was broken into and stolen therein : a wicker Basket, about 14 ins. long by 8 ins. wide, containing eight commonj Knives and Forks, black handles rivetted on ; a silver table SpcOD, marked ' J. F. ;* two common metal table Spoons; five ditto tea Spoons ; a plated cruet Stand, containing four cruets ; a metal Teapot ; six huckaback Towels, maiked in ink ' Billington;' three linen Tablecloths ; about 8 lbs. of Pork, 4 lbs. of Cheese, and a brown Jar, holding about three quarts of pickled Cabbage. Information to be given to Inspector Webb, Wendover, Tring, Herts.— Bow- street, October 18. Between 10 p. m. on the 14th and 0 a. m. on the 15th inst., the shop of Mr. Robinson, grocer and draper, of Wickwar, was broken and entered, and about £ 2 10s in silver and copper monies, among which was a shilling much worn aud battered, and 24 yards of small black and white plaid woollen Shirting, stolen therein. Information to be given to Superintendent Ellison, Police Office, Chipping Sodbury, Gloucestershire.— Bow- street, October 18. During the night of the 14th ins'ant, the house of a jeweller, in Cardiff, was broken and entered, and two silver Tea Spoons, engraved R. H„ stolen therefrom ; an attempt was also made to enter the shop. Information to be given to Super- intendent Stockdale, Cardiff, Glamorganshire.— Bow- st., Oct. 16. Between 11 p. m. 12th and 6 a. m. 13th instant, East View House, Sharples, was broken and entered, and the following articles stolen therein : a gold Watch with gold dial and fingers, No. 24833, had a gold Chain, Locket, Seal, and Key attached; a silver chronometer Watch, No. 3639, makers Royle and Rawson, Wigan, had a gold Chain, gold Key set with a red and white stone, and a common brass Key attached ; a small leather Dressing- Case, containing £ 2 10s., 3 scent Bottles, with silver tops : a gold Brooch, set with a yellow topaz stone; a silver Brooch, twisted pattern, 6et with 5 stones, 3 of which were out; a small mahogany Box, contain- ing a gold Brooch, set with blue enamel; an old gold Brooch, set with a dark stone or glass ; a pair of Spectacles, common steel frame, and case in imitation of tortoise- shell; a pair of silver sugar Tongs ; a silver salt Spoon ; a silver mustard Spoon, lined with gold, 4 pairs of gold Bleeve Link s ; and a small case ot drawing Instruments. £ 5 reward will be paid to any person giving such information as will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders and recovery of the property, or in proportion to the amount recovered. Informa- tion to be given at the Central Police Office, or to Superinten- dent John R Scott, Town Hall, Little Bolton, Lancashire.— Bow- street, October 16. On the night of the 7th instant, the house of Robert Robinson, publican, of Buckden, Hunts, was broken into, and the following articles were stolen : a bottle of Brandy ; a pair of Wellington Boots, soled ; a pair of blucher Boots, soled ; an old rough double- breasted black Coat, velvet collar; a parcel of new Drapery, consisting of 3 yard of Tweed, a remnant of Tweed, 2J yards of mixed Cloth, yards of mixed Cloth, 1 yard of Casban, J yard of Bevon Kersey, 6£ yards of Flannel, a pair of . cotton Braces, some Cotton and Tapes. Supposed t; r three men, who left St. Neot's at 10 o'clock the same night, stating that they were going to Peter- borough, but at 3 o'clock the next morning they were seen in Buckden, going in the direction of London. They are from 25 to 30 years of age, of middle size; one dressed in a dart coat, new cord trousers, and black cap is called LUTON; another in white slop and dark cap ; the third, black cap and brown guernsey. They had with them a large flag basket. One of them cut his hand very badly in getting through the window. Information to be given to Superintendent Copping, St. Neots, Hunts.— Bow- street, October 14. Description of a man charged with breaking into the dwelling- house of Mrs. Mary Hetherington, at Brookfield, Cumberland, between the 29th of August las 1 the 1st instant, and stealing therefrom : a blue and re ked silk Neckerchief; a white silk Handkerchief, w: i spot, and has thf letters R. S.' in black ink ; an o ' aited Brooct n hair in the centre ; ' Ud Gun is a dog engraved on in the stock ; an old leather shot Pouch, witn spring at tne top ; an old copper powder Flask, much worn and dirty ; and a wooden pipe case and Pipe : he is a labourer, supposed to be a native of Cumberland, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, fresh complexion, light brown moustache, no whiskers, grey eyes, brown hair ; dressed in a large dark grey roundabout jacket, fustian trousers marked with iron ore on the front, dark cloth cap with large peak, and Wellington boots. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Bird, Constabulary Office, Wigton, or at the County Chief Constable's Office, Carlisle.— Bow- street, October 14. Stolen between 9 a. m. and 2 p. m. on the 11th instant, by means of housebreaking, from the cottage of William Gordon, at Lower Ridge. Salop, a black cloth Jacket, two pockets out- side and lined with alpaca; a woollen magenta Muffler ; a woman's green and white striped Dress ; and 6d. in Coppers. Suspicion is attached to 3 tramps, one dressed in an old velvet coat, another in a white slop, and the other in dark clothes, and all of middle stature. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Gough, Oswestry, or to Sergeant Tjiomas, EUesmere- Salop.^ Sow- rfraa, October 14. Further information respecting the burglary committed at the house of Mr. John Dearlove, of Tyd St. Giles Fen, adver- tised iu the Police Gazette of the 9th instant, a silver Wine Strainer is also missing, but the 3 Liquor Bottles were not stolen: two men of the following description were seen on the premises at 8 p. m. on the 8th instant, and were on the following morning traced from the direction of Mr. Dear- love's house to the Great Eastern Railway Station at Wisbech, where they both took tickets and went by the 7' 30 a. m. train to London. One about 35 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, dark hair and large beard ; dressed in a long daik surtout overcoat, dark trousers, and black high- crowned hat. The other about 40 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, stout made, large light beard and moustache ; dressed in a dark monkey jacket, dark trousers, glazed leggings, and black high crowned hat ; both of respectable appearance. £ 5 6s. reward is offered by the Wisbech Association for the Prosecution of Felons to any person who will give such information as 6hall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offenders. Information to be given to Superintendent Stocking, Elm- road, Wisbech, Isle of Ely.— Bow- street, Oc. obcr 14. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen from Ash, Surrey, on the 1st instant, a brown Mare, 7 years old, 14 hands high, thick set, light brown nose, long tail, newly shod, and in good condition ; also a light cross spring market Cart, tiers on both wheels liose, painted chocolate colour, picked out with red, nauu on off side ' W. Hall, Farnborough, Hants '; and a set of old silver mounted black Harness. A reward of £ 5 will be paid to any person giving such information as will lead to the conviction of the offender or offender? 1, and recovery of the Mare. Information to be given to the Deputy Chief Constable of Surrey, Guild- ford.— Bow- st., Octo'er 21. Found at Sheet, near Petersfield, Hants, on the 10th inst., and supposed to have been stolen : a dark chesnut Mare, about 16 hands high, 5 years old, in good condition, bang tail, near hind foot white. Information to be given to Superintendent Bennett, Hants Constabulary Station, Petersfield.— Bow- street, Octobtr 21. Stolen on the morning of the 16th instant, from the Boarded Barn Farm, Finchingfield. the property of Mr. Samuel Myhill, farmer : two Colts, one a black, two years old, with a white speck on face, hind fetlock white : the other a bay, one year old, with a white star on forehead, both in good condition. Information to be given to Inspector Robinson, Police Station, Great Bardfield, Essex.— Bow- street, October 21. Stolen on the night of the 17th instant, from the Moors Farm, in the parish of Upton Warren, a brown mare Pony, about 6 or 7 years old, stands about 14 hands high, hbs a lump about the size of a walnut on the outside the off hind leg, between the hock and fetlock. Also, a dark coloured Gig, wheels striped with red, one shaft nearly new, inside of gig lined with blue cloth, has two steps on the off side and one on the near side ; also a set of Harness, brass mounted, nearly new, and a gentleman's Saddle and Bridle. Also stolen on the same night from a stable at Finstale, a set of silver plated Harness, and a harness Bridle of a different make. Stolen from a field at Brinwell Farm, in the parish of Leckwith, on the 4ih instant, a brown aged Mare, about 14 hands high, black mane, short tail cut square, black legs, and blind on the off eye. £ 1 reward will be paid to any person giving'sucli information as will lead to the recovery of the Mare, and conviction of the offender or offenders. Description of an Irish cattle drover or dealer charged with stealing, on the 10th instant, a Steer of the Devon breed, the property of the Rev. Augustus Morgan, which has been recovered : from 27 to 30 years of age, 6 feet 10 or 11 inches high, spare build, thin face, rather long nose, supposed weak eyes, light hair, rather long and cut square behind, little or no whiskers, and carries his head rather forward; dressed in a lon « dark coat, supposed pilot cloth, but faded, drab trousers, broken at seat, check shirt, dirty flowered vest, low- crowned hat, and lace- up boots, laced up with'twine. Information to be giveu at the Chief Constable's Office, Usk ; to Superintendent Mcintosh, Monmouthshire Constabulary, Pontypool, or to Inspector Sheppard, Constabulary S. auon, Newport, Mon- mouthshire, who will pay all reasonable expenses on his apprehension.— Bow- street, October 10. Information to be given to Superintendent Column, Sevenoaks. — Bow- slreet, October 14. liARC£) « 7AirU EMBXSZZEUi& ENT- Absconded on the 9ih instant, embezzliDg £ 600, the monies of his employer of No. 1, Exeter- hall, and No. 22, Cambridge New- road, Kennicgtou, a man, 27 year a of age, 6 feet 9 inches high, fair and ruddy complexion, brown hair, long and bushy reddish brown beard, small features, dark grey yes small and sunken and slightly twinkling, erect figure, well proportioned, quick and bustling walk ; dressed in dark clothes and Scotch cip.— Metropolitan Police, F Division, October 21. Absconded from Veutnor, on the oth instant, charged with embezzlement: JAMES PARDEY, baker, 19 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 6 inches high, thin, light hair, aud thick lips ; dressed in grey clothes and cap. He also stole at the same time a half bred hlack Bulldog, rnswers to the name of Bill, white throat, and tips of toes also white, had a brass collar with ' C, Davis, Ventnor Mill,' engraved thereon. Stolen on the 12th instant, at Hernhill, Kent, an old fashioned double- case silver Watch, hole ia casa where it shuts, cracked on face, supposed makei- Thackwell, No. 95460, brass Chain and three Keys attachrd, the property of Edward Holes ; and an old- fashioned silver Watch, cracktd near number' 2,' maker Turner, No. 6862, brass Guard, copper Piece siz> i of a farthing, a Key, and Shell attached, the property of William Cleveland. By a man, about 60 years of age, 6 feet 4 or 6 inches high, grey hair, a few grey whiskers, shaved on chin, very'dark complexion ; dressed in black monkey jacket, white slop, fustian trousers ( nearly new), blue shirt, check waistcoat, black cap with broad crown ( like a sailor's) and peak. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Green, Sittingbourne, or to Sergeant Bassett, Kent County Constabulary, Preston- next- Faversham.— Bow- street, October 21. Stolen on 18 , h instant, at Boughton: a Coat, since recovered, by a man, 26 years of age, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, swarthy complexion, long nose, full dark eyes, short black moustache, black haircut short, and few black whiskers ; dressed in black cloth coat and vest, dark trousers, black necktie, spring- side boots, black round crowned felt bat, plain ring on little finger of right hand, of very gentlemanly appearance. Information to be given to Sergeant Bassett, Preston- next- Faversham, or to Superintendent Green, Kant Constabulary, SittiDgbourne.— Bow- street, October 21. Description of FREDERICK ROWLEY, alias GEO. JONES, a tramping harness maker, a native of Monmouth, charged with haviDg absconded from the employment of Edmund John Smith, of the Church- Gates, Uttoxeter, saddler, on the 13 h instant, stealing a Knife, several Awls, and other articles : the property of Mr. Smith ; he is about 24 years of age, 6 feet 3 inches high, slight make, a peculiar mark on the right cheek, as if from a tumour ; dreesed in black coat, black figured waistcoat, corduroy trousers, and lace- up boots. Infor- mation to be given to Inspector Johns, Police Office, Uttoxeter,' who holds a warrant for bis apprehension, or at any of the Constabulary Stations in the county of Stafford.— Bou>- s! ree'., Oc'ober 21, Absconded on the 10th instant, charged with embezzle- ment, GEORGE HAWSON, a dyer : he is about 33 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, brown hair,', fresh complexion, scurvy in the face ; he was last heard of in search of work in the neighbourhood of Grantham, Lincolnshire. Information to be given to Chief Constable Freeman, Borough Police Station, Nottingham, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, October 18. Absconded on the 12th instant, charged with embezzling various sums of Money : HENRY BERKLEY OWEN, alias MiDDLETON, a clerk, about 60 years of age, 6 feet 9 inches high, rather found shoulders, stoops with contracted chest, light blue'eyes, very watery aud staring, sallow complexion, hair turning grey, full beard atad moustache turning gtey, and speaks something like an American ; dressed in light mixture coat, snuff coloured trousers, soft dun coloured billycock hat. It. is supposed that he is making his way to a seaport to go to t America. Information to bn given to Chief Constable Freeman, borough Police Station, Nottingham, who holds a warrant for his apprehension, and for whom a reward of £ 5 is offered.— — Bow- street, October 18. Description of a man charged with larceny, and remanded to the Nailsworth Petty Sessions on the lOtb ultimo, aud who did not appear to his bail: JOHN WEBBER, alias JOHN HERNIMAN, a native of Somerset, a tramping blacksmith, 40 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, round shoulders, a little deaf, pockpitted, brown hair and whiskers, and has a peculiar squeaking voice; dressed in a blue check shirt, blue pilot coat, black waistcoat, brown trousers, and black jimcrow hat ; his clothes are very old, torn, and dirty. Information to be given to Constable Critchley, Nailsworth, Gloucestershire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- st., October 18. C.' and some indistinct marks in blue on left wrist, various scais on fingers of left hand, and has very bad legs which causes him to walk lame ; dressed in a pepp'r and- salt coloured jacket, dark trousers, w hite shirt, and black billy- cock hat. He was lately convicted of felony at Ashford, Kent ; frequents low lodging- houses, where he will most likely be found ; and stated he was a stonemason and had a wife and two children.
