A^ Ollce.— It is requested that all communications for the pur- pose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to Mr. \ V. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all ILetters addressed to the Editor imnst be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from the regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Mall, London, S. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING Description of MARTIN MONAGHAN, against whom a warrant is issued, charging him with stabbing and wonnding Thomas Lyons, on the night of the 2nd instant, in the ' York ' tavern, York- street, Leeds : he is a labourer, about 28 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, dark hair, long thin face, sup- posed to have a black eye ; dressed in a dirty cap, white smock or jacket, cord trousers and strong lace- up boots. Informa- tion to be given to Chief Constable Wetherell, Town Hall, Leeds.— Bow- ttreet, September 6. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. By a man, dressed in light clothes.— Metropolitan Police, C Division, September 9. Stolen on the 3rd instant, from the person of a gentleman at Warwick Races, a gold hunting Watch, No. 2 | 3861, makers' names Baraud and Lund. £ 10 reward will be paid on the recovery of the watch and conviction of the offender. Absconded from Halifax, on the 2nd instant, charged with stalling from the person of James Butler, at the Fly Waterworks, Warley Moor, a silver verge Watch ( since recovered), a tramp- ^ g navvy, about 30 years of age, 6 feet 7 or 8 inches high, fresh complexion, light brown hair, whiskers under chin, and cut mark near the left corner of mouth ; dressed in old faded blue monkey jrcket, torn at elbows, old moleskin trovers, old boots cut at toes, and black cloth cap. Stolen, about 9 p. m. on the 1st instant, from the person of a gentleman at the Railway Station, Eccles, a gold duplex chronometer Watch, chased edges, • R. Stolen on the 3rd instant, from a gentleman at the races at Warwick, an old fashioned silver hunting Watch, crest— a leopard's bead, very faint, maker Hamlet, London. £ 3 re- ward will be given on the recovery of the watch, aud conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to he given to Head Constable Hickling, Warwick.— Bow street, September 4. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. On the 7th instant, a cottage on the Oswestry Race Course was broken into between 10 a. m. and 3 p. m. and stolen therein: a black cloth Coat, sleeves lined with swansdown calico ; two dark mixed cloth Waistcoats, dark bone buttons, and lined with white flannel ; a pair of cotton cord Trousers, large ribbed ; a black scarf Shawl, with woollen fringe and darned in several places ; a grey woollen scarf Shawl, nearly new ; a small hlack and white shepherd's plaid Shawl; a black and red Handker- chief ; a yellow silk Neckerchief; a Muffler ; and a flannel Petticoat. Supposed by two tramps, who were begging in neighbourhood both rather short, and one had red whiskers and wore a strap round his • yvaist. Information to be given to Superintendent Gougli, Oswestry, Salop.— Bow- street, Sep. 9 Stolen by means of housebreaking on the 2nd instant, from the cottage of Adam Smith, Lineham, Oxon, a silver Geneva Watch, No. 22429 | 9423, maker C. F. Jacobs, Geneva, a pair of dark tweed Trousers, dark grey tweed Vest, a pair of woman's kid top Boots, lace up inside, nearly new, and 3s. 2d. Supposed by a tramp, about 40 years of age, 6 feet 10 or 11 inches high, sandy hair and whiskers; dressed in a dirty slop, bad shoes, and walks as if foot sore. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Lakin, Chipping Norton, Oxon.— Bow- street, Sept. 6. During the night of the 2nd instant, the office of Capt. J. Pollock, Basinghall- street, Leeds, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : a pair of claret plaid or mixture cloth Trousers and Vest; a pair of black trouters, broad black braid down the sides ; a new blue cloth Pea Jacket, with velvet collar, facings, nnd braided scarlet lining, large black buttons, three pockets outside, one inside left breast ; an old ditto ditto, velvet collar, three pockets outside, one inside left brea3t, grey plaid lining, and large black buttons ; a Coffee Pot, a Tea ditto, a Sugar Basin, an Egg Stand for 6 eggs or more ( all electro- plated) ; a Carriage Rug, scarlet on one side and blaok on the other, coloured border. On the night of the 2nd instant, Hartpury House, near Gloucester, was broken and entered, aud the following property stolen therein : A number of large aud small silver Forks, with crest— a lion with battle- axe. A number of table and dessert Spoons. A number of gravy Spoons, two crests— stag's head and lion. A number of tea Spoons. 6 egg Spoons, with crests. 1 fluted soup Ladle. G round salt Cellars, with two crests, stag's head and lion. 4 oblong ditto. 2 Salvers' each with two crests. 1 large cruet Stand, with two crests. 2 Teapots and 1 Coffeepot, with crests. 1 silver Saucepan, with crests. 1 silver Egg. 1 silver jug Cover, with a fox's head as a handle. 2 wine Slides, with orest. 2 silver Mugs, one with inscription, ' Maria Canning, the gift of her cousin, T. W. Gifford.' 1 butter dish Cover, with cresf. 1 fish Slice and Fork, and several smaller articles. £ 20 reward will be paid to any person who will give such in- formation as shall lead to the conviction of the offender or offenders ; value will also be given for any part of the property recovered. Information to be given to Superintendent Checketts, Upton- ou- Severn, Worcestershire — Bow- s'., Sept. Found, supposed to have been stolen, about June last, at Severn Stoke, a Welsh ewe Sheep and Lamb, marked with pitch ' R. H.' on each side, and a ruddle mark down the back. Information to be given to Superintendent Checketts, Upton- on- Severn, Worcestershire.— Bow- street, September 6. Supposed to have h; en stolen during the night of the 31st ultimo, from a field at Birstal ; a dappled grey horse Pony, about 14 hands high, 6 years old, long switch tail and mane, shod and in good condition. Stolen from a field at Knuch Farm, in the parish of Colva, Radnorshire, between the 21st and the 28th ultimo, ten fat wether Sheep, the property of Mr. J. Harper, 2 years old, pitch marked • J. M.' on both hips, or the Radnor forest breed, and have different ear marks. Mr. J. Harper will pay £ 5 reward to any persin who will give such information as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offendeis. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING Supposed to have been stolen from a field on the Spalding road, Bourn, on the 7th instant, the property of Edward Eldrett : a Lamb, marked with large red dot, nearly black from exposure to the weather, on near side. Information to be given to Superintendent Pidgeon, County Police, Bourn. — Bene- street, September 9. Absconded from Fordingbridge, on the 29th « iltimo, charged with stealing a Horse, since recovered : ISAAC DOWNER, about 22 years of age, 6 feet high, thin stature, sallow complexion, no whiskers, and dark brown hair ; dressed when absconded in a short white slop, black billycock hat, old cord trousers ; very slovenly appearance. Information to be given to Sergeant Simpkins, Hants Constabulary, Fording- bridge, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, September 9. Stolen on the 3rd instant, from a field at Herne Hill, Dulwich, a dark brown Mare, 16£ hands high, aged, one hind fetlock white, one Bwollen, forelegs fired, aud in good condition. — Metropolitan Police, P Division, September 9. Description of EDWARD BENNETT, alias IRISH NED, charged with stealing a Horse ( recovered) at the parish of Hever, Kent, on the 22nd June last : he is 30 years of age, 6 feet 7 or 8 inches high, red freckled face, small brown whiskers; dressed when last seen in London, in dark coat and trousers, black high crowned hat, sometimes wears light cord trousers fitting tight to the legs, light cap, is a horse coper, and formerly in the employ of a horse dealer at Tunbridge. Supposed to have been Btolen from Welland, the property of Abraham Watkins, a half bred 2 year old thick c > b Colt, bright bay colour, 14 hands high, long mane and tail, black legs, unbroken but very quiet, answers to the name of LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT- Stolen from the dwelling- house of Henry Upsall, at Clee, about 4 a. m. on the 4th instant, £ 4 10s. in Gold, the property j of John Thomas Goodliffe, hawker : by JOHN WOODELL, who has until recently travelled in Lincolnshire and Yorkshire for his father, a tobacco manufacturer, in Hull, he is about 26 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 iucbes high, light hair, no whiskers, a small tuft of light hair on chin, fair complexion, slight built, of good address, is very fond ot drink, bagatelle and card play- ing, itns been in Leeds during the past month, and was traced into Yorkshire, since the 4th instant; dressed in a light grey i suit, Btraw hat with black and white band ; he will probably seek employment as a traveller in EOine tobacco or grocery firm. Information to be given to Inspector Richdale, County Police Station, Great Grimsby, Lincolnshire, who holds a warraut for his apprehension.— Bow- street, September 9. Description of JAMES JARVIS, for whose apprehension a warrant has been issued, charging him with fraudulently converting to his own use a boat, which was entrusted'to him hv Mr. George Burton, of Middlesborough, the boat was sold by him at Whitby ; a smack is still missing, and is also supposed to have been sold: he is a fisherman, a native of Hull, from 25 to 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, fresh complexion, light brown hair, sandy whiskers, round chin, | stout built, and resided some time ago at West Hartlepool. The smack is painted black outside, and blue inside, name ' Fisherlass' has ' S. H.' No. 169, on each bow, ' B. K.' in mainsail, dandy rigged, blue mastheads, bowsprit has been broken and spliced, top of sternpost broken off close to the , gunnel, and has an iron horse or bar across for the foresail to work on. Absconded on the 31st ult., from the Cambrian Brewery, Hoxton, stealing £ 20 in Gold and Silver : a man, 26 years of age, 6 feet 6 inches high, florid complexion, blotched face, dark hair, slight moustache ; supposed dressed in dark clothes and black hat; accompanied by a female, 24 years of age, fair complexion, dark hair. By a man, 30 yeata ot age, about. 5 feef high, has a scratch on the nose, thick short neck, round full face, very dark complexion, black hair, and very dirty appearance ; dressed in a dark low- crowned hat, dark coat, dirty dark check or plaid trousers fitting tight to the legs ; he is an ostler, frequents stable yards in the neighbourhood of racecourses, and is employed by tbe jockeys and ustlers on race days. Stolen from the dwelling- house of William Bagley, tailor, of Mason's- yard, Richmond, between 10 p. m. on the 18th and 9 a. m. on the 19th ultimo : a pair of light coloured tweed trouiera, fly fronts; a blue silk Neckscarf with white spots ; a large srlver Geneva horizontal Watch, enamelled dial, No, 2963 on dial and movements ; Is. in Silver; and 5d. in tCopper, the property of Thomas Bagley, junior.
