Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the pur- pose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear tlie Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to Mr. W. D. BURNABY, the Editor, Police Court, Bow- street, London, W. C. *.* Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is. made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor mast be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not brfmade. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from tbe regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Mall, London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. INFORMATIONS. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. Committed for trial at the ensuing assizes to be holden at Maidstone, SAMUEL MARTIN, chimney sweep, a native of Bexley Heath : he is 29 yeais of age, 6 feet 4 inches high, stiff built, swarthy complexion, dark brown hair, and rusty coloured whiskers. He is chaiged with the manslaughter of a boy, name unknown, at Appledore, Kent, wliom he buried under some trusses of straw in a barn, about the 16th January last. The boy is supposed to have left some part of London about August, 1866, and was induced by the prisoner to travel with him from Wadhurst, where the boy was hop- picking: he was about 13 years of age tall and slender, fair complexion, brown hair, and hazel eyes. ARSON AND WILFUL BURNING- About 6 p. m. on the Ifih instant, a hay stack standing near a farm house ou Dunnington Common, in the parish of Dunnington, the property of Richard Jackson, farmer was discovered to be on fire, and was partly consumed, supposed to be the work of an incendiary ; a man of the following description was begging at the house a few minutes before the fire, and is suspected : about 30 years of age, 5 feit 8 inches high, light hair and ginger whiskers ; .. dressed in dark cap, light coloured jacket, and trousers. Information to be given to Superinten- dent Lazenby, Police Station, Escrick, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, August 30. About 9 a. m. on the 14th instant a wheat straw stack, standing in the stackyard at Possingworth Farm, in the parish of Waldron, Sussex, the property of L. Huth, Esq , was discovered to be on fire, the whole of which together with a • ve straw stack, some oat straw, and part of two haystacks were destroyed. Supposed to be the work of an incendiary. toO reward will be paid to any person giving such information aa shall lead to the disovery of the offender or offenders. \ further reward of £ 50 will be paid to any person giving -- ich information as may lead to the detection of the offender or offenders who wilfully and maliciously set fire to a hay stack on the same premises, ou the same day, about 10 p. m. Stolen from the person of a man, whilst asleep on the roadside, between Batley and Dewsbury, on the morning of the 25th instant, a silver verge Watch, enamelled dial, gold hands, minute band broken, old bull's- eye pattern glass, No. 14589. Information to be given to Superintendent Martin, West Riding Constabulary, Dewsbury, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, August 28. Stolen from the person of a female, at Batley Railway Station, on the 25th instant, a email black leather Purse, containing 2s. 6d. in Silver, 4£ d. in Copper, and two Pawn- tickets, one for two gold Ear- ringB for 3s., and one for a flannel Petticoat, for Is. 6d., pledged at a shop in King- street. . Man- chester. Information to be given to Superintendent Martin, West Riding Constabulary, Dewsbury, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, Augusi 28. Stolen from the person of a gentleman, on Egham Race Course, on the 13th instant, a double bottomed gold lever Watch, maker Fairey, Tooley- street, London, No. 2951. £ 8 reward will be paid to any person giving such information as shall lead to the convictionaof the offender and recovery of the watch. Information to be given to Superintendent MurtelJ, Surrey Constabulary, Chertsey.— Bow- street, August 26. Stolen from the person of a gentleman at Brighton, on the night of the 22nd instant, a massive double case gold hunting Walch, maker Baird, Hatton Garden, London, a close pattern gold Albert Chain, and Key attached. By a female about 20 years of age, rather tall and slight, dark hair ; dressed in a black and white striped dress, she can be identified. Informa- tion to be given to Chief Constable White, Town Hall, Brighton. — Bow- street, August 26. Stolen from the persons of three gentlemen while viewing the regatta at Bedford, on the 21st instant, three Watchts and a Chain, as follows : a gold Watch and Chain, ' David Burgess, Fenny Stratford,' engraved on the inside case ; a silver hunting Watcb, maker Richard Fairey, London, No. 1766; and a silver Geneva Watch, open face, maker Gouvernon or Couver- non, No. 8201. By a female, about 20 years of age, middle height, i • le and delicate looking ; dresstd in a dark dress with light t ines wore a string of pearls round her neck. Description of two men who committed a highway robbery id rape on the person of Lousia Turner, at 8 p. m. on the nOth ultimo, on Seal Chart : one about 40 years of age, 6 feet hieb dark complexion, dark hair, whiskers, and moustache ; Iressed in 8 dark coat, trousers and black high crowned hat. The other 5 feet 6 inches high, rather light complexion, aud - w whiskers ; dressed in shi rt round frock coat, light coloured trousers, black billycock hat, aud had the appearance of tramps. Description of property stolen : a Purse containing 5s. 6d., a pair of green kid Gloves, and a white pocket Handkerchief. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Colman, Sevenoaks, Kent.- Boui- street, September 2. Stolen from the person of Joshua Atkinson, of Bolton, delver, whilst standing in a crowd at Pudsey Feast, at 11 p. m. 0n the 25th instant, a large old- fashioned silver verge Watch, white dial with piece out, cases bruised and catch of outer one much worn. Information to be given to Superintendent Ball, BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Stolen from the person, at Great Yarmouth Races, on the 27th ultimo: a silver levtr Watch, maker James Gowen, Lowestoft, No. 10,688, ' J. S.' engraved on inside of case; a large English silver lever Watch, maker Last, Yarmouth, No. 11,511. Information to be given to Superintendent Tewsley, Great Yarmouth.— Bow- street, September 2. Between 2 and 4- 30 p. m. on the 30th ultimo, the dwelling- house of William Davies, Bach- y- rhew, Llangunllo, Cardigan- shire, farmer, was broken and entered, and two Sovereigns, two Shillings, two Pennies, and a pair of woollen cord. Trousers, small pattern, man's size, nearly new, stolen therein Supposed by a tramp, 35 to 40 yeari of age, 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet high, stout built ; dressed as a working man, in a long velveteen jacket, corduroy trousers, and dark cap. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Hall, Llandyssel, Car- marthen, or to Police Constable Phillips. New Inn, Llangranog, Newcastle- Emlyn.— Bow- street, Stptimber 2. Stolen by means of housebreaking at Overley Green, Solihull ; a black cloth Jacket, with pockets on hips, a pair of black Trousers and Vest, youth's lize; a blue Necktie with white spots ; a common scarf Pin, with fox head ; a German silver Watch, with the inside chain broken, No. 21529, 3057, or 3000, not known which; a pair of lace- up Boois, with the soles sprigged on ; 4 crown Pieces , and a Shovel. Supposed by a man about 35 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, dark brown whiskers ; dressed in black nllycock hat, white slop, and corduroy trousers, much stained below tbe knee with red sand. Information to be given to Inspector Welch, Solihull, Warwickshire.— Bow- street, Auqust 30. The dwelling- house of Edward Turner, of Hopton Bank, was broken into about 1 p. m. on he 24th instant, and the following property stolen : a dark pilot cloth Over Coat, red and black striped woollen lining, blask cloth covered buttons ; a black cloth Dress ditto, two cuts on the bend of the right arm and sewn with black cotton; a black cloth Vest, right pocket torn at the corner, merino bck, and yellow inside ; a pair of dark brown rough cloth Troisers, about half- inch rib, mended at each knee ; a red and bhek striped woollen Shirt, fastens at the back. By a man about 25 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, stout make, dark brovn hair, very much pock- marked, long nose and features ; dessed in fustiau trousers, newly washed, tvbite slop buttoned iown the front, black jim- crow hat, and strong navvy boots neirly new. Information to be given to Sergeant Collis, Cleobury Mortimer, Salop.— Bow- street, August 30. Between 6 and 10.30 p. m. on be 27th instant, the house of Jonathan Slott, of Ripponden, stonemason, was entered by taking out a back window, during tie absence of the family, and the following property stolen therefrom : 1 paisley Shawl, 1 black Thibet wool Shawl, both rather worn ; 2s. in money ; 2 small Keys; 3 black hafted Knives and Forks; and a gold plated Brooch. Information to be given to Superintendent Copeland, West Riding Constabuiry, Halifax, Yorkshire. — Bow- street, August 30. Description of JAMES JONES, a native of Hawarden, Flintshire, against whom a warrant has been issued, for burglary : about 26 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, stout build, fresh complexion, rather sandy whiskers meeting under the chin ; dressed in en old brown cloth coat, dirty fustiau trousers, black billycock bat turned up at the sides, and a pair of strong newly- soled lace- up boots, which are part of the stolen property. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Bolton, Hanmer, or to Police Constable Simpson, Bangor, Flintshire, who holds the warrant.— Bou>- ttreet, August 28. Between 11 p m. on the 18th and 8 a. m. on the 19th instant, the dwelling- house of James Brigg, Crewe, waa entered, and a pair of elastic- side Boots, man's, pegged, one of the straps down the front loose ; a black French brocaded quilt Shawl, darned on the side; a black Jacket, woman's, imitation sealskin, much worn; 2s. in Money ; 3 lbe. of Candles ; 6 lbs. cf Sugar ; 6 lbs. of Rice ; 3 gills of W hisky ; a bottle of Port Wine ; a bottle of Porter ; and a bottle of Ale stolen therefrom. Information to be given to Inspector Wood, Police Office, Crewe, Cheshire.— Bow- street, August 28. During the night of the 23rd instant, the Railway Station at Newtown was broken into and the following property stolen therein : £ 6 10s. in Gold ; £ 2 10s. in Silver and Copper ; about 80 Cigars ; two small Keys ; a gold broken watch Key ; and a lady's gold plated Locket,' enamelled, with white and blue stripes on one side. Information to be given to Superintendent Danily, Newtown, Montgomeryshire.— Bow- st., August 26. Stolen by means of housebreaking from a cottage at Bettisfield, Flintshire, between 5 a. m. and 10 p. m. on the 19 th instant, the following articles, viz.: 1 pail- ot old dark striped Trousers ; 1 black cloth Vest ; 1 white harden Slop, nearly new ; 1 holland Apron ; an old wedding Ring, much worn ; 1 Shilling ; 3 or 4 four penny Pieces ; a simitar number of three- penny Pieces, each having a hole punched through : and 7Jd. Information to be given to Superintendent Bolton, Hanmer, Whitchurch, Salop.— Bow- street, August 26. On the 22nd instant, the house of Hugh Parry, Glog,. parish of Llanrhaiadr, was broken into, and tbe following articles stolen thereiu : a pair of cotton Sheets, in one piece, new ; a dark cluth Waisrcoat, new ; a pair of cotton cord Trousers, new, full fall, lined with unbleached calico, pieces in bottom of legs of dark colour ; an unbleached calico Shirt, linen collar, breast, and wristbands, nearly new; a pair of dark woollen Stockings ; a pair of coarse blue woollen Stockings; and three cotton Handkerchiefs. Information to be given to Police Constable Jones, Llanfyllin, or at the Chief Constable's Office, Welshpool, Montgomeryshire.— Bow- street, August 26. On the afternoon of the 22nd inst., the dwelling- house of Mr. Nicholson, farmer, of Sunderlandwick, was broken and entered, and the following articles and money stolen therein : 4 Sovereigns ; a Brooch," about the size of a shilling, inlaid with pieces of white stone or glass round it; two old gold wedding Rings, broken ; about 14 lbs. of raw Bacon from off loin side of flitch, about 23 inches in length and 8 broad, very dry, home fed ; two unbleached cotton Shirts, corners rounded off at neck and wristbands ; a white cotton Shirt; and two or three pairs of grey worsted Stockings, one pair newly footed. Information to be given to Superintendent Young, East Riding Constabulary, Great Driffield, Yorkshire, or at any of the East Riding Constabulary Stations.— Bou>- st., August 26. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Found on the 28th ult., at Milton, adjoining the London- road, and supposed to have been stolen, a light brown Mare, about 16 hands high, 6 years old, white blaze down the face, near hind fetlock white, thick mane and tail, cut square with the bock, hair rubbed off shoulders by collar, and in good condition ; also a dark brown Mare, 15£ hands high, about 4 years old, white blaze down the face, black legs, tail cut square with the hock. Information to be given to Inspector Hedley, Newport Pagnell, Bucks.— Bow- street, September 2, Stolen from a stable at Shipley, between 9 p. m. and 6 a. m. 29th instant, a bay Horse, 17 hands high, aged, one of the hocks enlarged, switch tail; property of David Lofthouse, of Song street, boatman. Information to be given to Superinten- dent Ball, Court House, Bradford.— Bow- street, Auqust 30. Stolen from Bsrcombe, North Molton, Devon, since the 19th instant, four ewe Sheep, marked 1IMM ' near side, a dot on the near pin, and 1 F M' in tbe horn, been recently dipped ; supposed taken with others to South Wales. Whoever will give such information as will lead to the conviction of the offender or offenders, shall receive £ 10 on application to the owner, Mr. John N. Merson, Brinsley, North Molton, Devon. Information to be given to Superintendent Wood, Devon Con- stabulary, South Molton.— Bou>- street, August 30. Stolen from Bisham, Berks, on the night of the 21st instant, a rusty black Horse, 7 years old, about 15 hands high, long tail, hair from under topknot cut off, broken winded. Information to be given to Superintendent Iremonger, County Police Office, Maidenhead, Berks.— Bow- street, Auqust 30. Stolen on the night of the 25th instant, in the borough of Brecon, a black Mare, 9 years old, 15J bands high, long mane and tail, some grey hairs at the top of off fore hoof ; also a two- year- old Colt, bright bay, strong, half bred, 15 hands high, tail reaching to the ground, white hind legs, white streak down the face, and has never been shod. Stolen from a field at the parish of Langley Marish, Bucks, during the night of the 21st instant, three fat Sheep, viz., two half- bred wethers and a ewe, of the South Down breed, marked with a ' J-' in red ruddle down the back, two straight red marks on the rump, and a blue ruddle mark on the off side of the back. Absconded on the 26th instant a female, charged with stealing a Half- sovereign; a Sixpence ; a glass Bottle ( since recovered); and a Basket, which holds about a gallon and a half, wi< h lid and small handle on each side, supposed made of bramble clishes or slips, the property of Benjamin Wartling, She is £ 8 years of age, 5 leet 5 or 0 inches high, dark complexion, dark eyes, dark hair turning grey, rather thin figure, late of Wartling, but supposed to reside in Brighton in the winter, obtaining her livelihood by covering pirtuols and umbrellas. Musson ' on works, ' No. 52388' on case, a silver Albert guard Chain attached ; and a gold breast Pin, hollyberry and leaves 10 centre : a youth, 18 years of age, 6 leet 4 inches high, fair complexion, light hair, brown eyes ; dressed in brown mixture coat, drab mixture vest, grey trousers torn at bottom, lace boots, dark straw hat, and violet satin scarf.— Metropolitan Police, N Division, August 30. Absconded on the 23rd instant, from No. 22, Ilendsworth- street, stealing 26s : a female, 38 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, stoat, dark complexion ; dressed in black stuff frock, black jacket trimmed with crape, black crape bonnet, and black flowers.— Metropolitan Police, N Division, August 30. Absconded on the 24th instant, from No. 15, Brunswick- terrace, Annerley- rd, Sydenham, stealing a £ 5 Bank of England Note and a Half- sovereign: a female, 17 years of age, short, fresh complexion black hair; dressed in lilac mohair dress, light cape, and hlack bonnet with blue ribbon.— Metropolitan Police, P Division, August 30. Absconded on the 19th instant, from No. 88, Mary- street, Hampstead- road, embezzling £ 9 : a youth, 18 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, grey eyes, fair complexion, nose appears to have been broken, deaf, and near sighted.— Metropolitan Police, S Division, August 30. Absconded on the 23rd instant, from the Industrial School, Feltham. four hnvs: JAMES ERVING, No, 1333, 16 years of age, 4feet 7 inches high, fresh comp. exion, hazel eyes, brown hair. ALFRED WEAVER, alias BROWN, No. 1302, 14 years of age, 4 feet 8 inches high, fresh complexion, grey eyes, auburn hair. SAMUEL FOSTER, No. 1293, 15 years of age, 4 feet 10 inches high, fresh complexion, hazel eyes, dark brown hair. CHARLES DEAN, No. 1622, 12 years of age, 4 feet 4 inches high, hazel eyes, hlack hair, fresh complexion. They were seen on the 23rd instant in Whitechapel- road.— Metropolitan Police, T Division, August 30. Stolen from the lodging- house of Mary Roberts, Builth, early on the morning of the 29th instant, a pair of watertight half Boots, nearly new, man's size, but very Bmall, Levant quarters, goloshed with calf, no seam up the hee!,- toe capp « d, and double stitched up the lace holes. By a inah ( a ted^ i- f), about 20 years of age, about 6 feet 8 inches high, very alight, small thin features, small long neck, light complexion, brown hair, no whisker*, and dressed iu cap, old cloth jacket and waistcoat, cord trousers, and the stoleu boots; his clothes are all covered with flour, and has the appearance of a trampiug baker. He worked iu a baker's shop two days at Bu ltb, and stated he was a native of Worcestershire, near Kidderminster.
