CONTAINING The substance of all Informations received ir cases of Felony and of Misdemeanors of an aggravated nature, and against Receivers of Stolen Goods, reputed Thieves, and Offenders escaped from Custody, with the time, the place, and the circumstance of the Offence. The Navies of Persons charged with Offences who are known but not in custody, and a Description of those who are not known, their Appearance, Dress, and other marks of Identity. The Names of Accomplices and Accessories, with every particular which may lead to their Apprehension. A Description, as accurate as possible, of Property that has been stoley, and a minute Description of Stolen Horses, for the purpose of tracing and recovering them. No. 4446 MONDAY, AUGUST 12, 1867. RTottce.— It is requested that all communications for the pur- pose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Sigseatjsre of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to Mr. W. D. BURNABY, the Editor, Police Court, Bow- street, London, W. C. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all betters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not he made. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from the Regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Mall, London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. INFORMATIONS. MURDER AMD MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING, About midnight on the 3rd instant a man named William Bradberry was found in the road at Round Green, near Luton, insensible, with a severe wound on his head, and expired from the injuries he received at 8 a. m. on the 4th instant; his trousers pockets, which contained about 8a., were cut off and taken away, and when last seen he had a bundle, which con- tained a pair of worsted cord Trousers, with private mark on waistband, two blue striped Shirts, with private mark, and a soft black deerstalker hat. Near the body was found a short Whip, the stock of which is about 2 feet C inches long, with a white leather thong, it has a piece of iron bound to the stock, about 2 feet long, with the same description of leather as the thong. Information to be given to Superintendent Pope, Luton, Bedfordshire.— Bow- street, August 7.<- ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON- Stolen from the person of Mr. William Taylor, of Bramley, farmer, at Oiley Feast, on tho 6th inBtant, a white linen Purse without string, 8 or 9 inches long by 4 or 6 inches broad, with a small pocket sewn inside, which contained four £ 5 Notes, one is a Bank of England note, numbered either 45650 or some- thing up to 45155, and dated July 26, 1866 ; two have been cnt in half but fastened together again, seventeen Sovereigns, and three half Sovereigns. £ 5 reward will be paid to any person giving such information as shall lead to the apprehen- sion and conviction of the offender or offenders. Stolen from persons, at the Lewes Races : A 6ilver Geneva Watch, 18 line silver dial with seconds, jewelled in 4 holes, No. 1681. Stolen from different persons at the Brighton Races, on the Gth, 7th, and 8th instant: 1 double case gold Geneva Watch, horizontal movements, maker Morlenia. 1 gold Chronometer, maker Webster. 1 gold lever Watch, white dial, maker Brilluian, Bishops- gate- street. ] gold hunting Watch, maker Gaudron eleve de Brequet, 98, Faubourg St. Honore, Paris, No. 6667, with a gold Albert Chain and Key attached. 1 large gold Pin— an eagle's claw holding a ball of coral. 1 single case silver Geneva Watch, dial cracked from centre to figure ' 11.' 1 double case silver hunting Watch, maker Haylar, Brighton. 1 very flat silver Geneva Watch, with a gold Albert Chain and gold Key in the shape of a gun attached. 1 double case silver hunting Watch, made in Arundel, and a heavy gold Albert Chain with two Lockets, a gold Pipe. & c. attached. 1 silver lever Watch, engine- turned, maker Neale, with a gold Albert Chain attached. 1 small flat silver Geneva Watch. 1 silver lever hunting Watch, engine- turned, plain white dial. 1 old- fashioned double case silver lever Watch, rather small, maker Alexander Purvis. 1 silver Geneva Watch, white dial, sunk seconds, maker Mottu, No. 13392 or 13892. 1 silver lever hunting Watcb, maker Winser, No. 22456. 1 silver Watch, maker Millet, Geneve, No. 4487. Information to be given to Chief Constable White, Town Hall, Brighton.— Bow- street, August 12. Description of PATRICK O'BRIAN, charged with larceny from the person, at Long Sutton, on the 9th instant, remanded until the 16th instant: about 30 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, sallow complexion, black hair, dark blue eyes, small dark whiskers, mole on back between shoulders ; dressed in a black cloth suit, the coat is a short loose one, red flannel shirt with black stars on it, print shirt underneath, soft felt hat, and elastic side boots. Information to be given to Superintendent Leaper, Spalding, or to Sergeant Crawford, Long Sutton, Lincolnshire.— Bow- street, August 12. Stolen from the person of Thomas Ellis, on the 5tli iust. i at Lindfield Fair, Sussex : a gold Geneva open- faced Watch, white dial, closes very hard at the back, ' J. T. E.' engraved on outside case, No. 2017 ; also a gold Albert Chain, cable pattern, an Arrow, 2 Seals, and a Key attached, all gold, one a round Seal with 8 sides, the other an oval one ; and a leather folding Purse, no elastic, containing 3 Sovereigns, and about 20s. in Silver. By a female, of the following description, about 20 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, light complexion, full faced ; dressed in a white BtraW hat, with fancy straw trimming, paisley shawl with white in centre of back, and a piece of yellow ribbon tied round the neck and expending down the back. Information to be given at the Chief Constable's Office, Lewes.— Bow- street, August 12. Stolen from the person of a gentleman, at the ' Grapes' nn, Worsley, about 5 p. m. on the 7th instant, a gold lever Watch, centre seconds, makers Royle and Rawson, Wigan No. 3650 Information to be given to the Superintendent of County Police, Old Trafford, near Manchester.— Bow- ctreet, August 12. Stolen from the person at Hanley, on the 5th irfttant, a large- sized silver patent lever Watch, white dial, maker Pid- ducks, Hanley, No. 1437— 2084. Information to be given to Superintendent Baker, Constabulary Office, Hanley, Stafford- shire.— Bou>- street, August 9. Stolen from the person at Worcester, on the night of the 31st ultimo, an open- faced silver Watch, with ' Loan' and ' Manning and Manning' or ' M. & M.' engraved on the dome. Information to be given to the Worcester City Police.— Bow street, August 7. Stolen about 3 p. m. on the 6th instant, from the person of a gentleman, w hile in a bank at Manchester, nine £ 100 Bank of Eneland Notes, dated Manchester, January 2nd, 1867, Nos. from 46810 to 46818 ; a £ 10 ditto, dated 8th January, 1867, No. £ 5994 ; and several Cheques, payment of which is stopped. Any person giving such information as will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders, and recovery of the notes, shall receive £ 100 reward, or in pro- portion to the amount recovered, on application to Captain Palin, Chief Constable, Town Hall, King- street, Manchester. — Bow- street, August 7. Stolen from the person of John Gates, while drunk and asleep at Tibberton, between 9 and 12 p. m. on the 31st ult., a double- cased silver verge Watch, No. 4264, silver Guard with two small Shells and a small steel Hammer attached. Infor- mation to be given to Chief Superintendent Richardson, or to Sergeant Howells, Wellington, Salop.— Bow- street, August 6. BURGLARY AND MOUSE BREAKING. Between the hours of 12- 30 and 5 a. m. on the 6th instant, the dwelling- house of Wm. Isle, of Crowle, was entered by taking six panes of glass out of the back window, and the fol- lowing articles of clothing stolen : a pair of brown cotton cord Trousers, coloured with clay, having been worn in a brickyard ; a fustian Waistcoat with white buttons round the pockets; a drab short Slop with brass buttons and band round the waist; and a large black liafted Pocket- knife. They were offered for 6alt at a pawnbrokers at Doncaster, but not bought, by a tramping- looking man, between 30 and 40 years of age, and wearing a black felt or billycock hat. Information to be given to Inspector Henson, Police Station, Epworth, near Biwtry, Lincolnshire.— Bow- street, August 9. On the 7th instant, between the hours of 1 and 7 30 a. m., the dwelling- bouse of Thomas Davenport, labourer, of Law- ford Heath, was entered, and the following property and money stolen : 2 Sovereigns; 3 half Sovereigns; 10s. in Silver; 1 black leather Purse, with clasp ; 1 pair of black cloth Trousers; 1 black cloth Vest; 1 brown cloth Vest; 1 pair of cotton cord Breeches and Leggins ; 3 Shirts, one calico with linen front, two unbleached ; 1 silk Handkerchief, with blue and white satin stripes; 1 common Brooch, Princess of Wales pattern. Information to be given to Superintendent Wild, Rugby. — Bow- street, August 9. Stolen from the dwelling- hou: e of John DOWNS, at the township of South Skirlaugh : a silver Watch, maker Jobson, London, No. 42486 ; a ditto, maker Jackson, Goole, No. 63058 ; a pair of men's Trousers, dark and light stripes, darned on knee. Supposed by two tramps who had been seen in the neighbourhood, and who went in the direction of Hull: one, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, light hair, stout made, very bowlegged ; dressed in black cloth suit of clothes, low- crowned hat, and light necktie : the other, about 20 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, dark complexion, dark hair, slender made; dressed in grey coat and trousers, round hat, and strong heavy boots. During the night of the 30th ultimo, the house of Mrs. Mills, West Dean, near Chichester, was broken into, and the following articles stolen therein : 3 Sheets, 4 Chemises, 7 Table Cloths, 2 pairs of Drawers, 6 Chamber Towels, 4 glass Cloths, and 13 Table Napkins, all marked ' H. P.', 4 Aprons. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Pratt, Chichester.— Bow- street, August 5. Description of HENRY EVANS, alias MILLARD, alias CRUMP, late of the parish of Dawley, Salop, puddler, who has absconded, charged with breaking into the dwelling- house of Edward Meyrick, of Cleeton Hills, near Much Wenloek, between 8 a. m. and 4 p. m. on the 29th ultimo, and stealing therefrom 30s, in Silver: about 26 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, dark liair, little or no whiskers; dressed in a black cloth cap with peak, dirty moleskin or grey jacket, dirty moleskin trousers, and when la6t seen was wearing two vests, one white, and the other black ; he is well known at Horse- hays, Dawley, Stirchley, and Oakengates, and was seen near Stirchley on the 1st instant, going in the direction of Oaken- gates. Information to be given to Police Constable Turner, Police Station, Much Wenlock, Salop, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, August 5. -• « • - HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen on the night < jf the 7th instant, from Marsh Farm, in the borough of Tenby, Pembrokeshire, a Horse, 6 years old, in good condition, about 16 hands high, hind fetlocks white, between a roan and dark bay colour, mane turned on off side, useful for a cart or carriage, the property of Mr. John Ormond, farmer ; the horse was led through Tenby turnpike gate, at 11 p. m., on the night of the 7th instant. £ o reward will be paid on the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Head Constable Harrison, Borough Police, Tenby, Wales.— Bow- street, August 12. Stolen about 3 a. m. on the 9th instant, from a field at Westerham, a grey gelding Horse, light and well bred, aged, in very low condition, 16 or 17 hands high. By a young man, of the following description, who was seen in possession of the horse going towards London, about 6 feet 6 or 7 inches high; dressed iu a brown jacket, and billycock hat. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Colman, Police Court, Sevenoaks.— Bow- street, August 12. Supposed to have been stolen, on the 4th or early on the morning of the 5th instant, a bright bay Mate, white star on forehead, about 14 hands high, black legs, a few white hairs on her wither, a little bump on her shoulder, and rather a high stepper, rising 6 years old, from a field between Elstrie Hill and Brockley Hill, the property of Mr. Anthony Aldred, butcher, Elstrie, Herts. Information to ba given to the Police, Elstrie, Herts.— Bow- street, August 12. Stolen from a field at Burley, between the 3rd and 4th ins. a brown Mare, rather dappled, 15 hands high, 5 years old, in good condition, has a long tail, the property of Mr. James, Whitehead of Burley, Innkeeper. Information to be given to Superintendent Sykes, Police Office, Odey, Yorkshire.— Sow- street, August 9. Stolen from the farm of Mr. William Harding, of Acton Trussell, near Stafford, between the 12th of June and the 3rd instant, two fat Sheep and two fat Lambs, all pitch marked on the left side ' W. H.' A fat Sheep was stolen on the night of the 3rd instant. Information to be given to Captain Con- greve, Chief Constable, Stafford.— Bow- street, August 9. Stolen from a field at Bagshot, Surrey, during the night of the 6th instant, a half bred dark gtey cart Mare, 5 years old, about 16£ hands high, white streak Idown the face, broard toward the nostrils, a scar on near knee, from being staked, long tail and rather thin mane, the property of Henry Deacon. A reward of £ 10 will be paid on the apprehension and conviction of the offender. Information to be given to Superintendent Murtell, Surrey Constabu'ary, Chertsey.— Bow- street, Auyust 9. Stolen from a field at Frankley, Worcestershire, on the night of the 31st ultimo, a brewn Mare, 14$ hands high, G years old, has a small streak of white down the face ( turning a little to right nostril), a little white on off hind fetlock, black mane and tail, the latter has been docked, was switch when lost, a very square mane, a little low in back. A reward of 2 guineas will be paid by Mr. Jacob Whitehouse, the owner, to any person or persons who will give such information as Bhall lead to the recovery of the Mare, and conviction of the offender or offenders. E.' and a crosi on tho left; dressed in a dirty slop, brown waistcoat, old corduroy trousers, black billy- cock hat, an I blucher boots ; lias been going about the country hawking fish, & c., and states he is a native of Worcester. Information to b given to Sergeant Richards, Police Office, Hands worth, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, August 7. Found at Beverstone, on the 27th ultimo, supposed ( o have beeu stolen, a bright bay mare Pony, 2 years old, with black legs, very small in the bone. Information to he given to Sergeant White, Tetbury, Gloucestershire.— Bow- street, August 7. Stolen from a stable at Potweli Farm, near Cosham, during the night of the 31st ultimo, the property of Mr. James Chandler, a light brown cob Mare, G years old, about 14 hinds high, ue>: r knee recently broken, shoulders have been g lied, a little. Stolen from a farm, in the parish of Steep, on the 24th ultimo, a black mare Pony, aged, about 12 hands high, branded on the near side with the letters ' J. LASLCEN'S'AjrD EMBEZZLEMENT- Absconded from Norwich, on the 5th instant, charged with embezzlement : WILLIAM WOODS, a tailor, and for whose apprehension a warrant is issued, about 21 yeais of age, 5 feet 7 itches high, light brown hair, grey eyes, high cheek bones, thin feature?, scar on front ot forehead, small light moustache, little hair on chin ( which may be shaved off), left- shoulder higher than the other ; usually dressed in black hat and dark clothes £ 10 reward will be paid to any person giving such information us may lead to his apprehension. Infoimation to be given to Chief Constable Hitchman, or to Superintendent Barnard, Detectivc Office, Guildhall, Norwich. — Bow- street, Auqust 12. Stolen on the 7th instant from a bedroom at^ the Crown Inn, Colnbrook, Bucks, a pair of Blucher Boots, brads in the soles, tips on the heels, with three brass eyelet holes in them, the property ot George Lawrence. By two boys, one 17 years of age, 5 feet 2 or 3 inches high, light hair, and fresh com- plexioa; dressed in an engineer's white slop, white moleskin trousers, dark blue striped fancy woollen shirt, and grey cap • with peak, bound with black. Ttie other about 15 years of age, light hair, and pale complexion ; dressed in an engineer's white slop, cord trousers, which have beeu recently washed, and cap. Had in their possession a black- and tan terrier bitch. Information to be given to Superintendent Dunham, Police Si a'ion Slongli, or to Inspector Ray, Iver, Uxbridge, Middle* lex— Bow- stre t, August 12. Stolen during the night of the 8th instant, from a wheel- wright's shop at Copdock, near Ipswich, the property of John Beaumont, a smoothing Plane, a tenou Saw, a wood Stock, a beading Plane, and a Flemish Chisel, which has since been found pledged at CClchester, on the 9th instant. By a mm about 33 years of age, 6 feet 6 inch> s high, rather sandy hair, no whiskers, and thin features ; he said he came from Norwich, and is a carpenter. Information to be given to Sergeant Cattermull, Washbrook, near Ipswich.— Bow- slreet, August 12. Absconded from her lodgings at Farnworth, about 7 a. m. on the oth instant, stealing a printed Dress, buttons up the front, short sleeves, patched on body aud skirt; four white cotton Skips, nearly new, one has frills on the sleeves; three brown hoiland Aprons, one has two tucks at bottom ; a pair of elastic side boots, child's size, far worn; and 4s. Gd. in Silver, a woman who stated that she came from Hyde, about 34 years of age, 5 feet G inches high, datk complexion, appears to be black round the eyes, slender ma' e; dressed in red aod black jacket, brown winsey skirt, very dirty plaid woollen shawl, and elastic side bcots; without bonnet: is a power loom weaver. luforniation to be given to Superintendent Scott, Town Hall, Little Bolton, Lancashire— Bow- St. Aug. 7. Stolen between the 28th ultimo and the 4th ins'int, from a common lt d. ing- hou e at Brampton, a white flannel Pt t'i- coat, rou- ded top band, four breadths, herring- boned, tuck at bottom ( has been 0:. c-". washed). Supposed by a man and woman, who lodged in the house on the night of the - Dch. ulf., and left the following morning. They had three children with them : a g'rl about 12 years of age, and two' boys, about 8 and G years, who wore grey jackets, belts round their waists, and clogs. The man appt- red to be from 30 to 40 ye is of age, a native of Yorkshire, 6 feet 11 inches high, long face, brown hair, wddish whiskere, proportionate make, and dmsed in a dark co- t and waistcoat, light trottSc- 18, and wind hat; the woman i3 about 35 years of age, a native of Dumfriesshire, 5 feet 6 or 6 inches high, swarthy complexion, long face, daik brown hair, stout make, and wore a dark stuff dress. Stolen from a clothes' line in Albert- road, Farnworthl about 10 p. m. on the 3rd ii stant, a black and white smal; plaid Shawl with broad black bordt r ; a child's buff Pinufore, and a child's blue and white printed Fr ck, all in good con- dition. By a woman, dressed in a ' lark cloak Bud shawl. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Scott, Town- hall, Little Bolton, Lancaahiie.— Bow- street, August 7. Absconded on the 25th May last, charged with embezzle- ment, ALEXANDER ELSWORTHY, late a clerk in the Called- for Goods Office, Great Western Railway Station, Paddington, ab'iut 26 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, muscular Imiid, walks upright, bluck frizzy curly hair cut short, black whiskers, short black moustache, shaves clean on chin and throat, hf. zel eyes, good set of very white teeth, pale face, regular features, very Jewibh appearance, coughs 1 adly, very nervous from recent illness, speaks with a kind of lisp or slight impediment, talks loudly, and laughs immoderately when conversing; dressed in a fashionable black cloth walking coat, with large lappels faced with silk, double- breasted vest, grey trousers, side- spring boots black stylish hat, or Italian bl ck billycock hat, a new grey overcoat, with black Astracan cuffs and collars; sometimes wears patent leather riding boots up to the knee with his trousers tucked in them. He resided at No, 7, Richmond- road, Shepberd'S- buah ; T is A wife, supposed to be with him, about 34 years of age, rather tall, aDgular features, fair hair and complexion, of attractive appearance, slightly lame of one foot, showily dreesid. Information to be given to Superintendent Lambert, Goods Department, Great Western Railway, Pad- dington, or to Inspector Acason. of tho Company's Police, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, August 7. Description of JAMES BROOKS, who is charged with stealing, on the 14th ultimo, from John Gill, of Tausley, a pair of moleskin Trousers, a black cloth Vest, a German silver Penholder, and 8d. in Money : about 5 feet 5 inches high, dark hair, eyes, and complexion, no whiskers, having shaved them off a few days previous to the robbery ; dressed iu a rough black pilot jacket, will he weariug the stolen trousers, as he loft his own behind, black and white straw hat, strong navvy boots ; has been in the army, served in the 46th Regi- ment in the Crimea and India, and is suspected of being a deserter. A warrant has been granted for his apprehension. Information to be given to the Superintendent of Police, Wirksworth, Derbyshire.— Bow- street, August 5. Absconded on the 29th May last, from the service of Messrs. Gilbert, Kerr, and Co., merchants, No. 3, Abchurch- laue, London, E C., charged with stealing £ 315, the monies of his employers: EDWARD C. HARDY, 4 teet 10 inches to 5 teet high, fair complexion, light hair, thick nose, downcast look. Information to be iven to Inspector Hamilton, City of London of Police, Detective Department, 26, Old Jewry, E. C., who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Boio- st., Aug. 5.
