CONTAINING The substance of all Informations received ir cases of Felony and of Misdemeanors of an aggravated nature, and against Receivers of Stolen Goods, reputed Thieves, and Offenders escaped from Custody, with the time, the place, and the circumstance of the Offence. The Names of Persons charged with Offences who are known but not in custody, and a Description of those who arc not known, their Appearance, Dress, and other marks of Identity. The Names of Accomplices and Accessories, with every particular which may lead to their Apprehension. A Description, as accurate as possible, of Property that has been stolen, and a minute Description of Stolen Horses, for the purpose of tracing and recovering them. No. 4431 MONDAY. JULY 8, 1867. Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the pur- pose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or ' stolen property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to Mr. W. D. BURNABY, the Editor, Police Court, Bow- street, London, W. C. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre hended, and the name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As HO charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor mntlt be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from the regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, nuy be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Mall, London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. INFORMATIONS. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. On the morning of the 4th instant the body of a newly born male Infant was found in a b>> x in the Monkwearmouth and Fulwell Cemetery. An inquest bas been held, and a verdict of ' Wilful Murder' against some person or persons unknown returned. Information to be piven to Superintendent Salter, Jarrow- ou- Tyne, Durham.— Bow- street, Jul]/ 8. About 8 30 p. m. on the 4' h instant, a maD entered the shop of Mr. Vaughan, watchmaker and jeweller, No. 26 Bath street, Bristol, and asked to purchase a watch key, and while being served by Mr. Vnu^ lun made a muiderous attack upon him, striking him on the head with a life- preserver or other blunt ins'ruiuent, and stole from the shop window the following property : Rings A halt- hoop diamond, five stones, about carats; a ruby and diamond, about 4 grains; four single stone diamond, 1^, 3J. and 6 grains ; two cluster diamond, one with fifteen stones, about 3J carats, the othe. with thirty- nine stones ; a turquoise and diamond, gipsy pattern; a half- hoop diamond, five stones, 4 grains ( second hand) ; a cluster opil and diamond ; and an enamtlltd mourning single stone diamond. Pin— A diamond breast, Brunswick Btar pattern. Albert Chains— A coloured gold drop, small close fluted curb pattern, 14 dwts. 23 grs.; a diito, 13 dwts. 20 grs. ; a ditto, cable pa'tern, bar link, 19 dwts. 18 grs.; a ditto, fancy pattern, 1 oz. G dwts. 13grs. ; a ditto, twisted cable pattern, fluted links, 1 oz. 3 dwts.; a ditto, open curb, plain, 17 dwts. 5 grs.; a ditto, twisted fetter pattern, 1 oz. 7 dwts. 16 grs. ; a ditto, Alexandria pattern, loz. 11 dwts. lOgrs. ; and a ditto, plain curb, close links, 2 oz. 2 dwts. Description of the offender: about 27 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, slight made, sharp features, clean shaved ; dressed in slaie- colouied c'nae fitting coat buttoned up to chin witu-< pockets at side, and s ft black felt bat. £ 60 reward will be paid to any person who will give such information as shall lead to h< s apprehension and conviction. Stolen on the night of the 2nd instant, from a field at Merthyr Tydvil, a bright hay mare Pony, aged, about 13 hands high, black mane, switch tail, ' D. Stolen from the vicarage at North Weald Bassett, during the night of the 4th instant, by means of housebreaking, the following articles: 1 pair of Sugar Tongs, 6 Salt Spoons, 1 Butter Knife, 3 small Ladles, 18 Dessert Spoons, 13 small Forks, 22 large Forks, all silver; 9 large Forks, plated; 22 Tea Spoons, 3 Egg Spoons, 1 Teapot, 2 Gravy Spoons, 1 obiong Waiter, 1 Soup Ladle, 1 Marrow Spoon, I FiBh Knife, 1 Cream Mug, 2 Bmall Tea Spoons, all silver and maiked ' C;' the whole have a crest on them. £ 10 reward will be paid to any person who shall give such information as will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offendeis. Honblon, E- q., Great Parndon, was broken and entered, and the following articles stolen therefrom: eleven large tilver Spoons, Bix small ditto, five silver Tea Spoons, two silver Salt Spoons, a plated ditto, a metal ditto, a bronze. Fio « er Stand, and two pairs of Sugar Tongs, all with crest— a lion's head ; a pair of Wellington Boots, nearly new, tips on heels ; a blue Overcoat, with breast pocket outside and velvet Collar ; a blue shooting Coat, with two breast pnekets inside and two outside pockets; a dark Vest, with collar; a pair of blucher Boots ; an old low- crowned Hat, and a new Stolen from a field at Cuddesdon, near Oxford, between the evening of the lst and the morning of the 13th instant, four half- bred fat LamhB, the property of William Chilling- worth, farmer. The dark grey gelding Pony stolen from a stable at Headley on the night of the 2Gth ult., and advertised in the Police Gazette on the lst instaut, bas been recovered by the Metropolitan Police at Wandsworth, and the man who was offering it for sale taken into custady and remanded till noon of the 9th inst. : he gave the name of JOHN SMITH, 38 years of age, 6 teet inches high, fair complexion, blue eyes, brown hair, slightly freckled, pockmarked, ' W. H.' tattooed on right arm, man on left; dressed in an old faded dark cloth Coat, brown cord trousers, blue striped shirt, dirk cloth cap with peak and lace- up boots wiih brass eyelet- holes; states he is a labourer, and came from Kent- street, Bjrough, London. Description of THOMAS HOPKINS, a groom, charged with s'ealiug 3 horse's breast Girths, the property of Mr. John Darhy, horse dealer, Rugby ; 40 years of age, 6 feet 8 inches high,* stout made, a cut on nose and on top lip, a large scar on back of neck, letter * R.' tattooed on right arm, bald on head, dark hair, sandy whiskers, pockpitted, walks very upright, and supposed to have been in the Army. Stolen between 2 and 4 am. on the 6th instant, from a field at Shanks Lodge, in ' he parish of Haddon, the property of Wm. Abfconded on the 1st instant, charged with embezzlement, THOMAS ADAM BAILEY, a r., il> v » y cleik, late of Onghty- biidge, neir Sheffield ; he is about 30 years of age, 6 feet 7 or 8 inches high, tail complexion, black hair, and bushy whiskers ; diessed in a black clvth coat ( buttons at top) and vtst ( no collar), blue and black striped tiousers, and black liaf. He has been an officer ii: the United States army, and is rather boaetful when in conversation.
