Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the pur- pose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to Mr. W. D. BURNABY, the Editor, Police Court, Bow- street, London, W. C. *,* Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre hended, and the name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from tbe regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Mall, London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. INFORMATIONS. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. On the 16th instant, at 5- 45 p. m. the body of a newly born male infant, was found in a passage, in Havelock- street, Crewe, wrapped in a piece of calico, part of a woman's dr « si, tben stitched in a piece of old black twill cotton lining, and wrapped in brown paper and tied with white string. An inquest has been held and a verdict of'Wilful Murder'returned against some person or persons unknown. Information to be given to Inspector Wood, Police Office, Crewe.— Bou>- sirect, June 21. Description of a man charged on a coroner's warrant with the willul murder of a man, unknown at Leeds, on the 27> h ultimo : about 30 years of age, middle height, and round shouldered ; dressed in a light coloured corduroy or fustian jacket and trousers, and high laced boots. He is supposed to be an Irish labourer or navvy, and during the evening previous to the quarrel, which led to tbe mm's death, was drinking with the deceased, and another man, apparently a navvy. The deceased is supposed to be an Iris man, and was from 28 to 30 years of age, 6 feet 8 or 9 inches high, dark brown hair, grey eyes, sallow complexion, scar on forehead, the nail on the thiid finger of the right hand was split, and a front tooth of the upper jaw broken ; was dressed in an old brown ribbed cloth jacket, with magenta lining, old brown and black ribbed vest, cord trousers, very much Boiled, brown and white plaid cotton kerchief on neck, blue striped cotton shirt, and blucher boots. £ 60 reward will be paid by the Watch Committee of the borough of Leeds, to any person who will give such information as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Chief Constable Wetherell, Town Hall, Leeds.— Bow- street, June 19. On the evening of the 10th instant, the body of a new born male Child was found in tbe Basingstoke Canal, Crookham, Hants, sewn up in a piece of hop bag and weighed with a brick. At an inquest, held on the 13th instant, a verdict of ' Wilful Murder' was returned against some person or persons unknown. Information to be given to Superintendent Howard, Hants Constabulary, Odibam.— Bow- sreet, June 17. ARSON AND WILFUL BURNING- About 1030 p. m. on the 17th instant, a straw rick, standing in the rick yard of Mr. Richard Rayner, in tbe parish of Iver, Bucks, was wilfully and maliciously set on fire by some person or persons, the whole of which together with a cart house and slitd adjoining were destroyed. Supposed by two persona: one, about 6 feet 6 inches high, dressed in dark coat and cap with peak ; the other, about 5 feet high, dressed in light coloured blop and black billycock hat, and was carrying a daik coat on bis arm. They were traced from Colnbn ok to Hounslow, where they arrived at 4* 30 a. m. on the 18tb instant, and are supposed gone to Hammersmith. Information to be given to Superintendent Dunham, Police Station, Slough, Bucks, or to Inspector Ray, Iver, Uxbridge, Middlesex.— Bou>- street, June 19. £ 4 8s. 3d.: WILLIAM LONG, late a clerk at the Exeter Station of the Bristol and Exeter Railway, about 65 years of age, 6 feet 8 inches high, dark hair, and short, uses hair dye, thick black moustache, no whiskers, will probably shave ofFthe moustache, grey eyes, broad shoulders, and chest, round full face, large hands and feet; dressed in black cloth jacket, affects the appearance of a Frenchman, for a short time he will have the mark of a cut on his throat, as he attempted to commit suicide. Information to be given to Superintendent Steel, Guildhall, Exeter, who holds a warrant for his apprehension. — Bow- street, June 17. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the person at Bellevue Gardens, on the 15th instant, a silver Geneva Watch, maker Louis Beave, Geneva, has ' William Penny,' scratched inside the case. Information to be given to the Superintendent of the County Police, Old Trafford, near Manchester.— Boio- street, June 24. FORGERY. Further information respecting the man charged with Forgery at Weston super- Mare, Somersetshire, advertised in the Police Gazette of tbe 17th instant. He was convicted of fraud at Glasgow, in tbe name of BARBER, two years ago. The Watch which was obtained from Mr. Rossiter has been found pledged at BHih, in the name of James Waldron, 3, Torriano- avenue, Camden- town, London: the person who pledged it carried a hazel root stick with knob at the end. Information to be given to Superintendent Gillbanks, Somerset Constabulary, Axbndge, or 10 Sergeant Hardwick, Weston- super- Mare.— Boio- ureet, June 24. Absconded from Exeter charged with uttering two forged acquittances and receipts for the sums of £ i. 2s. 7d, and BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. During the night of tbe 19th instant, the dwelling- house of Samuel Pitts, furniture dealer, of Wilmslow, Cheshire, was broken and entered, and the following property stolen : a Ham, about 16£ lbs. weight; and two men's white calico Shirts, linen fronts and wristbands, fasten up behind, one marked ' S. P.' Information to he given to Superintendent Williamson, Macclesfield, Cheshire.— Bow- street, June 24. Sometime during the night of the 22nd instant, a house in Cardiff was entered and the following articles stolen there- from : 10 silver tea Spoons marked ' H.' and two nil « « r table ditto, maraed ' D. M. H.' Information to be given to Superin- tendent Stockdale, Cardiff, Glamorganshire.— Bow- st., June 24. Sometime during the night of the 21st instant, the ' Black Lion' public house in Cardiff, was b'roken and entered, and from 16s to £ 1 in Silver aud Copper stolen therefrom. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Stockdale, Cardiff, Glamorganshire.— Bow- street, June 24. Between 1115 p. m. on the 19th and 4 a. m. on the 20th instant, the railway station of the North- Eastern Railway Company, at Morpeth, was broken and entered, and the follow- ing property stolen therefrom : £ 12 in Gold, £ 5 lis. 6d. in Silver, 10s. in Copper, two wooden Bowls, and a small Bag, stamped ' Bank of England.' Suspicion is attached to three young men of the following description, who were seen loitering about the station the same evening : one about 24 years ot age, 5 feet 8 inches high, fresh complexion, propor- tionate make, round face, no whiskers, sunburnt, light brown hair cut short; dressed in dark coat and vest, dirty moleskin or cord trousers, and black cap with cheesecutter peak : another about 18 years of age, 6 feet 6 inches higb, stout make, sallow complexion, dark hair cut short, dark eyes ; dressed in a dark coat with velvet collar, black vest and trousers, and black cap with cbeesecutter peak : the other about 18 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, freBh complexion, stout make, brown hair cut sbort, no whiskers, round face, sunburnt; dressed in a dark coat with black velvet collar, daik cloth vest and trousers, black cap with cheesecutter peak, and a green check necktie, They all spoke with a Scotch accent, but are supposed to be Irish, and stated they had come from Glasgow ; one of them carried a small bundle. Ttiere was also stolen from the work- shop of Mr. Nicholas Wright, Morpeth, on the same night, two Chisels and a Screwdriver, one of which was found upon the premises at the railway station. During tbe night of the 19th instant, the house of Colonel Paine, Patcham Place, Sussex, was broken and entered, and two silver Candlesticks, with crest— a stag's head, engraved on the foot, stolen therefrom. Also, during the same night, the house of Major Brabazon, Patcham Villa, was broken and entered, and the following property stolen therefrom : a silver table Spoon, fiddle handle ; two silver dessert Folks, with crest— crown and prince's feathers ; a child's engraved silver Fork, chased ; a plain silver Inkstand, crest— a hawk with wings extended ; a pair of silver sugar Tongs; two salt Spoons, marked ' J. C. three tea Spoons, fiddle pattern, with crest— a hawk ; a Cover of a mustaid pot ; a silver Paperknife, china handle, woman one side, inan the other. Information to ue given to Superintendent Jenner. Lewes, or to Sergeant Baldwin, Preston, Sussex.— Bow- street, June 21. Between 11 p. m. on the 16th and 7 a. m. on the 17th inst., the dwelling- bouse of Mr. Wm. Thorpe, boot and shoemaker. Clowes- street, Gorton, was broken and entered, and the follow- ing property stolen therefrom : a pair of men's elastic- side Boots, crimped fronts, imitation buttons, marked on the heel ' J. H ,' No. 8 size ; three pairs of strong- made blucber Boots, siz s 7, 8, and 9 ; » pair of boy's blut- her Boots ; two pairs of women's elastic- side Boots, patent fronts, and brass riveted, sizes 2 and 3 ; four pairs of girl's elastic- side Boots, brass riveted ; a blue and white Tablecloth, a little faded, and a hole burnt at one end. Also, between 11 p. m. on the 17> li and 6 am. on the 18th instant, the dwelling house of Mr. William Hale, of Openshaw, was broken and entered, and a pair of men's long Wellington Boots stolen therefrom. During the night of the 17th instant, the house of the Misses Borrer, Manor House, Portslade, near Brighton, was broken and entered, and a mustard- pot Stand, about 2 inches in diameter, a small pepper Box, two cruet Tops, a mustard Spoon ( supposed marked ' B.'), a small cruet Spoon, and a tea caddy Spoon— all silver, s'olen therefrom. Y.' in scarlet thread. 8 Pillow- cases : four short, two long, and two brown twilled, all narked ' M. W.' in scarlet thread. 1 pair of twilled cotton sheets 2f yards long, nearly new. Description of JOSEPH BEDFORD, who absconded from Wick, on the 6th ii stant, charged with stealing 7 Sheep the property of Mr. Matthews, of Wick : he is about 21 years of age, 6 feet 10 inches high, dark complexion, little or no whisketa, hi Ji cneek bones, and of sullen appearance ; dressed in a grey jacket and waistcoat, dark trousers, and black bowler bat. Information to be given to Superiutendent Rawle, Staple Hill, Bris'ol. who holds a warrant tor his apprehension.— Bow- street, June 19. Found in the possession of a drover at Cann on the 14th instant, supposed to have been stolen, a white faced ewe Lamb, marked wit h red between the shoulders, and a blue mark on neck. Supposed to have been stolen from a field at the parish of Womens « Ould, during the night of the 14th instant, a blaok cart Mire, 4 years old, 15£ bands high, loDg mane and tail, in fair condition, and knuckles when trotting. Information to be given to Superintendent Stokes, Kent Constabulary, Sandwich. — Bow- street, June 19. Stolen on the 11th, instant, from Glayeley, near Bridg- north, Salop, the property of John Guilt, a she Ass, 5 years old, in good condition, dark brown colour, long in coat, a small dent on near tore boo', and small lump on fore off hoof, shod in front: by a man, ahout 23 years of age, 6 feet 2 or 3 inches higb, sandy hair, small sandy whiskers, and has the appearanoe of a besom maker or hawker ; had on an old pair of Wellington boots, and large coloured muffler round neck. Information to be given to Sergeant Cox, County Police Office, Bridgnorth, Salop.— Bow- street, June 17. Stolen on the night of the 13th instant, from a stable at Howdon Colliery, the property of Mr. George Hutchinson, a grey draught Mare, aged, 15 bands 2 or 3 inches high, in poor condition, sore on near shoulder and near side of back, lame of off tore fetlock. Also, on the same night, from a field near Crook, the property of Mr. J. Davidson, a bay draught Horse, aged, 16 or 1hands high, has a rib broken on the near aide, the indentation being quite visible, white star on forehead, and in good condition. About 1 o'clock on the morning of the 14th instant, two lads, apparently about 1C years of age, were seen riding a grey mare of the above description away from the direction of Howdon, while a rather stout man was following them on a bay horse; and during tbe last week, two strange men have been loitering about the neighbourhood, and have been seen in Mr. Hutchinson's stable yard, and about Mr. Davidson's fields : one between 25 and 30 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, slenoer make, sallow complexion, sore and red about the eyes, thick lips, and prominent mouth ; dressed in a grey round jacket and trousers, and dark cap, all dirty and greasy : the other between 40 and 45 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, rather stout, dark complexion, black whiskers, which come under the chin and are rather long and bushy ; dressed iu a dark cloth coat, corded trousers, and cloth cap. A reward ot £ 15 will be paid on the usual conditions. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Henderson, Bishop Auckland, Durham.— Bow- street, June 17. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Information to be given to the City ot London Police, Bishopsgate Station.— Bow- street, June 24. Stolen from the dwelling- house of John Goodey, Friday- street. Henleyoil- Thames, Oxon, between the hours of 9 a. m. and 7 30 p iu. on the 22ud instant, £ i7 6s. iu Gold and Silver, a beaded Purse with blue lining and steel clasp, and au old single- cased Watch without any glass. GEORGE FRANKS, chnrged on warrant with embezzle- ment at Iroiibndge, abd for whose apprehension a reward of £ 3 was offered, advertised in the Po ice Gazette of 9th January last, is still at large, and is said to be working in the mines in Durham. Information lo be given to Sergeant Howells, Police station, Madeley, Salop.— Bow- street, June 24. Stolen on the 18th instant, from the dwelling- house of John Dixon, shoemaker, Morpeth, an old- fashioned silver _ erPO v » r < i, maker J. Adamson, Chelsea, No. 6396, with a black Tape Guard and two Keys attached. By a man of the following description^ who longed at the house for two nights : he gave the name of JOHN CHAPMAN, a nativeof Barnsley, Yorkshire, about 20 years of age, 6 teet 8 inches high, pro- portionate make, fresh complexion, long face, pock pitted, dark brown hair, no whi.- kers, blue mark round each wiist, also round each middle finger, and the figure of a ship on either rjght or left arm ; dressed in a white moleskin jacket, vest, and trousers, blue cap wiih peak, and strong shoes ; he is by trade a pitman. Stolen between the hours of 6 and 7 a. m. of the 21st instant, from a bedroom at the ' Feathers' beer house, Chalfont St. Giles, berks: 1 pair of hlai k cloth Trousers and Vest, nearly new, the property of William Busby, the landlord : by a lodger, abo ut 22 years of age, 6 feet 4 inches high ; dressed in dark clothes, and grey cap. CHARLES WEBB, late of No. 5, Nelson- street, Woolwich, charged on a warrant wiih felony ( and described in the Police Gaznte of the 3lst May, 1865), has been appre- hended.— how- street, June 24. Absconded on the ni^ ht of the 11th instant, from Spenny- moor, near Bishop Auckland, SOLOMON ERLICH, a jew, a native of Prague, near Warsaw, who is charged on a warrant with stealing r' 68 15a. 61. and a silver Watch, patent lever, No. 11333 belonging to John Stobbs, in whose bouse he lodged. He is about. 23 years of age, 6 feet 8 or 9 inches high, slender made, black hair and eyes, dark cou plexion, longish face ; dressed in a daik tweed suit, much worn and darned, black cloth cap with French peak, elastic side boots mended at top witn thick wax thread ; he has gone about the country selling German prints and engravings. Stolen on the 19th instant, from a house in St. Germain's- road, Lewisham : 2 silver table Forks. 14 ditto Sp. ot. s : 12 tea, 2 table, marked ' J. R. By two men with horse and gig, brown horse, brass mounted harness, gig painted dark ; one 40 years of age, 6 feet 9 inches high, dress. d in a black coat, snutt coloured trousers, billycock hat, the other 4i to £ 0 years of age, dark clothes, two or three coats were hanging across the back rail of the gig.— Metropolitan Police, P Division, June 24. Description of ROBERT CAREY and JOHN CARR, charged wiih stealing, on the 16ih instant, from farm premises at Hessle, two Tuikeys and five Fowls ( since recovered) : Carey is a coal miner, 24 years of age, 6 feet 4 or 6 inches higb, pale complexion, grey eyes, brown hair, slightly pock- pitted, large mark ou bridge of nose, sfeveial blue marks on face, slender build, and has lost the first joint of right thumb ; dressed in dark grey cloth coat wiih two side pockets, dark vest and trousers, aud black cloth cap. Carr is about 35 years ot age. 5 teet 6 inches high, pale com- plexion, blue eyes, light brown hair, aud sandy whiskers ; dr. ssed in blue pilot cloth coat with two pockets outside, light grey mixture waistcoat, old dark blue trousers, much patched, black velvet cap, which he wears on one side of his head, and white cotton shirt; has been employed for many years as check weighman at several collieries in the neighbourhood ot Both men will probably seek work in the coal districts.
