The Names of Persons charged with Offences who are known but not in custody, and a Description of those who are not known, their Appearance, Dress, and other marks of Identity The Names of Accomplices and Accessories, with every particular which may lead to their Apprehension. " » * Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre hended, and the name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As HO charge is made for tbe insertion of any article in tbe POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor • unit be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, . is well as those from the regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Fall Mall, London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. INFORMATIONS. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. Whereas the state cabin of the schooner ' Howden,' of Goole, was forcibly emered by three of the crew, whilst that Vessel was lying off Dungeness, on the 11th ultimo, during the absence of the master <> n shore, and a Chronometer, a Sextant, a gilt Watch ^ nd gold Chain, and several other articles were stolen, and the offenders made their escape, taking the ship's boat. On the 17th ultimo a boat, which is identified as the boat stolen from the schooner ' Howden,' was found off Dunge- ness by the crew of the brig'Alfred' of Sunderland. The boat was full of water and contained the dead body of a man whose face was much disfigured, and who had apparently met his de « th by violence. The body was washed out and lost from the boat whilst endeavours were made to secure it. It is suspected that the body is that of one of the ciew of the ' Howden,' who was murdered by the other two for his share of tbe booty. Description of the three seamen who formed part of the C'ew of the'Howden': HENRY YENZEN, 25 years of age. 5 feet 4 inches high, fair complexion, long straight hair, no whiskers, and dressed in a blue pilot cloth jacket and trousers, black curlv Etsinore cap, and Wellington boots; PETER ROBIN- SON, 23 or 24 years of age, a native of Jersey or Guernsey, speaks with a peculiar accent ; and WILLIAM. SMITH, 23 or 24 years of ase. The dead body seen in the boat was dressed in a blue serge shirt, black trousers, and had a belt with a knife sheath round the waist. £ 25 reward will be paid by Her Majesty's Government to any person or persons who will give such information as shall lead to the appiehension of each of the two seamen belonging to the ' Howden' who are sup- posed to have committed the murder. Information to be given at the Metropolitan Police Office, Great Scotland- yard, London, or at any of the Metropolitan Police Stations, or other Police Stationsl in the United Kinedom, or to any of the Officers of Her MtncTy's Customs or Coast Guard at Out- port Stations. — Dow- stPtet, June 7. Description of GEORGE MOORE, alias GEORGE JOHNSON, collier, charged with having on the night of the 1st instant, at Worksop, Notts, feloniously stabbed, cut, and wounded William Taylor, with intent to kill and murder: he is about 22 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, rather stout, dark brown hair, fawn freckled and pock pitted ; dressed in a suit of black cloth clothes, and black billycock hat. His father resides at Retford, Notte. He will most probably endeavour to obtain employment either at a colliery or brick- yard. Information to be given to Superintendent Wimant, County Police Station, Worksop, Notts, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, June 5. graph. By a man, 19 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, com- plexion Mr, pale face, dressed in dark clothes. Also f'ora another gentleman, a gold Swiss watch, maker Nicaied, Fleurer ; white face, gold hands, dial cracked at figures 9 and 3, and part of a curb chain attached. Also from a gentleman in a crowd in Cavendish- place, a piece of gold Chain, snake pattern, with blood- stone key, bunch of 6 Keys on a steel ring, an ivory Knife, six blades, two broken. From a lady in Edwards- street, Portman- square, a gold Watch, maker Grohe, Wigmore- street, and a gold neck Chain. From a lady in Cavendish- place, a red leather Purse, con- aining 1 Florin, and 2s. in Silver.— Metropolitan Police, D Division, June 10. Stolen on the 6th instant, from a gentleman in the Hay- market, a gold keyless English hunting Watch, maker Muir- head, Glasgow, initials ' W. B.' one side, crest, an eagle's head the other, one side fits like a cap, with binge, quite new. AlbO from a gentleman, in Green- street, Leicester- square, a gold lever Watch, engraved ' E. F. P.' on inside and outside of case. Supposed by a man who is now in custody.— Metropo- litan Police, C Division, June 10. Stolen from the person, at Dawley Fair, about 10 p. m. on the 3rd insiant, an old silver verge Watch, No. 130, maker Reynolds, Salop. Information to be given to Chief Superin- tendent Richardson, or to Sergeant Howells, Madeley, Salop. — Bow- street, June 5. Stolen from the person of GEORGE PICKIN, of New Works, on the night of the 3rd instant, at Dawley, a silver verge Watch, No. 181 with a long linked steel chain and two brass keys attached : supposed by a short stout built woman in dark dress. A reward of 6s. will be given on conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Police Constable Wyley, Dawley, Salop.— Bow- street, June 5. Stolen from the person of Thomas Flanagan, of Dawley, on the 3rd instant, an old silver Verne Watch, maker Henry Rolens, Shrewsbury, No. supposed 338, gold minute hand and brass hour band, very loose in outside case, with lon^- linked steel Chain, a Key, and part of another attached. A reward of 5s. will be given on couviction of the offender and recovery of the watch. Information to be given to Police Constable Wyley, Dawley, Salop.— Bow- street, June 5. FORGERY. Description of SAMUEL LOCKETT GIBBS, alias WM JAMES, charged on a warrant with forgery, at Longton, Staffordshire, who absconded about the 24th ult.: about 30 yrs. of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, very stout, rouod full face, dark hair, walks veiy erect, head thrown back, is a butcher, but has not worked at his trade for some time, has been a letter carrier, coal dealer, and farmer, lotormatiou to be given to Superinten- dent Garnham. Constabulary Office, Longton, Staffordshire. - Bow- street, June 7. left finger disfigured. Information to be given to T. White, Sergt. of Police, Tetbury, Gloucestershire.— Bony St., June 10. Between 7' 30 a. m. and 12 noon, on the 4th instant, the cottage of Thomas King, of Swincombe, Oxon, was broken into, and a nearly new blue* and white plaid Scarf Shawl, a dark cloth Waistcoat with hone buttons ( the top button an odd one), and a quantity of Food, stolen tbeiefrom ; supposed by a tramp. Information to be given to Superintendent Seers, Police Station, Watlington, Oxon.— tiow- rtreei, June 7. Between 10 pm. on the 5th and 6 a. m. on the 6th instant, the dwelling- house oi Joseph Warbutton, Grey Mare- lane, Brad lord, Lancashire, was broken and entered, and the follow- ing property stolen therefrom : a wau's black cloth Coat, two pockets in skirts, and one outside left breast, and is unstitched BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Between 8 p. m. on tt\ e 4th and 8 a. m. on the 6th instant, St. John's school room, Kenilworth, was broken and entered, and ihe following properiy stolen therefrom : about 9-., chiefly iu Coppers, from a missionary box ; an uumade brown calico Shirt; a white calico Chemise, nearly made; two white calico Nightdresses, nearly made ; a lady's small leather Work basket; a piir of Scissors ; and a round- head eight- day spring Time- piece, maker Bright, Leamington. Information to be given to Inspector Galloway, Kenilworth, Warwickshire.— Bow- street, June 10. Between the hours of 2 and 3 a. m. on the 5th instant, the dwelling- bouse of Dr. T. S. Hewett, in the parish of Sunning- hill, was burglariously entered and a half- pint silver Tankard, embossed with leaves and fioweis, and marked ' T. S. H. ;' a Fish Knife aud Fork ; and a Silver Butter Knife, stolen there- from ; entrance was effected by breaking a pane. of glass in the window and opening the casement. Information to be given to Inspector Reece, County Constabulary, Windsor, Berks.— Bow street, June 10. Between 4 and 7 p. m on the 5th instant, the dwelling- house of Mr. William Newnes, of Pentrecoed, Salop, was broken and entered, during the absence of the family, and the follow- ing property stolen therefrom : a man's pair of black cloth Trousers, nearly new; a black silk Dress; a brown French merino ditto, opens down front, long sleeves, wide cuffs, and trimmed with black velvet; a new pair of woman's kid- top Boots, lace up inside; a pair woman's white woollen Stockings, a small rough Table Cloth, and two small hand Towels. Sus- picion is attached to two tramps, who were begging in the neighbourhood about the time ot the robbery : one from 30 to 35 years of age, 6 feet 4 or 6 inches hi^ b, slender make, fresh complexion, light hair, no whiskers, and dressed in a black Velvet jacket, dark ribbed vest, light woollen cord trousers, and black cloth cap ; stated that he was a tailor ; the other is from 16 to 18 years of age, slender make, and dressed in a suit of old black cloth sn I dark cloth cap. Information to be given to Sergeant Ellestnere, or to Superintendent Gough, Oswestry, Salop.— Bow- street, June 10. On the night of the 3> d instant, a shoemaker's shop, in the borough of Tamworth, was broken and entered, and stolen thereirom : one hide of Calf- skin aud a number of Puces ; one hide of Kip and a number ot Pieces, all black ; and a linen Apron, nearly new. Information to tie given to Sergeant Longden, Tamworth, or any Police Station in the county of Stafford .- Bow- street, June 10. Absconded from Westonbirt, Gloucestershire, on the morn' ing of the 3rd iniitant, charged with assault with intent to commit a Rape, on the evening of the 1st instant: THOMAS SMITH, blacksmith > r bo'ler plate n. aker, late of Viaduct Works, Crumlin. Information to he given to the Superintendent of the Couu'. y Police, Old Trafford, near Manchester.— Boa- street, June 7. Further information respecting the house broken into at Coed Morgan, near Abergavenny, on the 14th ultimo, and advertised in the Police Gazette of the 17th and following dates. A returned convict aud licence- holder, named JAMES LLEWELLYN, is suspected : 27 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, pale complexion, light brown hair and whiskers under chin, hazel eyes, ' D' on left side, cross on right arm, two anchors, ' HOPE,' flog, and ring on left arm, several blue marks on three fingers of lett hand, and ring on third finger of left hand. Most all the property has been found sold at Caerphilly, iu Glamorganshire, but the following articles are still supposed to be in his posses- ion : a black silk Handker- chief ; three cotio. i bundle Handiteichiefs, two red and w^ tte and the oiher yellow and white ; a silver watch Chain ; a pair of newly- fronted moleskin Trousers ; a pair of pink and drab Braces ; and a white flannel Shirt with purple spots. Infor mation to be given at the Chief Constable's Office, Usk, or to Superintendent Fieeoian. Abergavenny, Monmouthshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, June 7. During the night of the Ist or early on the morning of the 2nd instant, the shop ot Air. Joseph Payne, tODacconist, situate in Lamb- alley, in the borough of at. Alban's, was entered, and upwards of £ 100 worth ot Cigars ( 84 lbs. of Cigars and Cheroots were iu 1- lb. and J lb. bundles, banded with yellow and magenta ribbon, some of which have the name of ' Reiua,' ' Lopez,' and ' Mexican Cheroots' printed on the ribbon); a quantity of auiber Alouth- pieces, 1 in. and 1$ in. long ; seven ineerscnaum Pi^ es, in cases, lined with crimson velvet; and about £ 7 in Gold and Sliver stolen therefrom. Information to be giveu to the llead Constable, Police Office, St. Albau's, Herts.— Bow- street, June 5. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Left at Whitchurch, on the 4th instant, and supposed to have been stolen : a black Horse, half bred, 6 years old, 16 bands high, white face, near hmd leg white to the hock. Information to be given to Superintendent Harries, Whitchurch, Shropshire. — Bow- street, June 7. Stolen on the 2nd instant, from Chilton Lime Works, near Ferry Hill, Durnam, a white horse Pony, 8 or 9 years old, 14£ bands high, in good condition, and has the letter ' H.' marked on one of its hind quarters- Iuforuiation to be giveu to the Police Officer, Chiltou, Ferry Hill, or to Mr. John Galloway, the owner, at Guisbro', Yorkshire, who will pay £ 1 reward on the apprehension of the offender and recovery of the pony.— Bow- street, June 5. Supposed to have been stolen from a field at Bloxwich, near W alsall, during the might ot the 2ud instant, a light brown cart Horse, in good condition, aged, 16 hands high, off hind fetlock white, a substance on the oft shoulder, and walks widely behind. Information to be giveu to Chief Constable Cater, or to Sergeant Martin, Police Station, Bloxwicb, near Walsall, Staffordshire.— Bom- street, Jun 6. Found on the 27th ultimo, at Sutton- at- Hone, Kent, and supposed to have been stobn, a dark brown Gelding, about 15J hands high, white teet, white streaks down the face, long mane and tail, in low condition, and broken winded. Information to be given to Superintendent Brandon, Kent Constabulary, Dartford.— Bow street, June 6. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen on the 3rd instant, from a gentleman in a crowd in Wigmore- street, Marylebooe, a large old- fashioned gold r. peater Watch, engine turned cases. Roman numerals, a lady's haud- some gold guard Chain, with slides. From another gentleman, a silver hunting Watch and silver Chain attached, one link deficient. From a lady, a red leather Purse, with steel chain, con- ... taiuing 1 Florin, a 6d. Stamp, 2 foreign Letters, aud a Photo- j complexion, pockpitted, cut under lett eye, and end of second | wood, a dove- tailed Saw, marked ' J. Pitt,' aud other tools. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Absconded from Bircher, Yaipole, on the 31st ultimo, RICHARD tiEATH, bailiff to Thomas Dunne, Esq., in whose service he bad been up to that dute, charged with embezzling the sum ot £ 39 10s. : he is ahou i 30 y ears of age, very upright, 6 feet 2 incites high, fresh complexion, good looking, with dark curly hair, aud whiskers neatly meeting under the chin; dressed in light grey coat ai d vest, woollen cord trousers, black wide awake bat, stun collar sua ght and worn up, neck- tie red and whi'e with brown bpots. £ 6 reward will be paid by Thomas Dunne, E- q.. on the api reheusion and conviction of the said Richard Heath, lniormation to be given to Captain Telter, Chief Constable, Shire Halt, Hereford, or to Superin- tendent Dyk. s, Cnuniy Police, Leominster, Herefordshire.— Bow- street, June > 0. June 10. the property of John Pitt, which have been recovered, with the exception of the saw : about 56 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, hurly face, browu h- » iv, and light moustache, is very much addicted to drink ; dressed in » l' » ng blue cloth coat, cord trouseis, and an old high- orowned silk hat. Absconded on the 4th instant, from Manchester, stealing £ 200 in Gold, the property of his en ployers, a young man. about 24 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, dark hair, small moustache, sallow complexion, has the marks of king's evil on side of neck ; dressed in dark mixture coat, dark trousers, and black hat, of respectable appearance, aud stoops a little when walkiDg. It is supposed he will endeavour to emigrate. A reward of 10 per rent, will be paid on his apprehension and con vie ion, upon all mon- y recovered. Description of JAMES RALSTON. alias JOHN CRAN- STON, alias FOWLIe, alias BAXTER, a cattle drover or herdsman, supptsed to belong to the West of Scotland, charged with stealing two cows :— about 35 years of age, 5 feet 10 or lhinch's high, stonily made, dark brown hair and whiskers ( thin on side of face and thicker on chin, may have them shaved off), large coarse round face, high cheek bones, pro- minent nose, face very red and blotched, has a cut on right side of face about an inch and H halt Ion;, and one near left eye, sev. ral smaller marks supt- sed received when fighting, he being a pugilist, has a maik of an Hiichor and supposed initials on right arm made with Indian ink ; dressed in a dark grey lot 8? coat, new coarse cheviot trousers, grey vist, white shi't silk necktie, and rno. d telt hat. Stolen between 12 and 6- 15 a. m. the SOtli ultimo, from a pawnshop in Bolton ; a new black cloth swinger Coat, velvet collar; aduk clotn Coat; a pair of daik cloth Tronsers with blue spots ; a woo leu Sbirt ; and a Vest. By two men: one 22 years <> f age. 5 teet 4 nctes high, fair complexion, shon black ha< r, slighily pock pitted : usually dressed in white linen jacket, but may have on one of the stolen coats, black cloth cap with large top. Stolen from a dwelling- house at Newton, Lancashire, between 1030 p. m. on the 2ud and 3 a. m. on the 3rd instant, a brown cloth Shawl and a piece of an old Paisley Shawl. By a young woman, who had lodged in the house for one night : about 17 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, fresh com- plexion, light brown hair; dressed in a black stuff dress, black and white plaid shawl, and elastic- side boots. Information be giveu to the Superintendent of the County Police, Old Trafford, near Manchester.— Bow- street, June 7. Absconded on the 27th April last, charged upon a warrant with stealing a cork Knife, the property of his master, Jeremiah Brand, cork cutter, Richmoud : EGBERT POPPLETON, 19 years of age, 6 teet 7 inches high, dark complexion, rather blotched about the face, black hair, stiff built, biowneyes, very sullen looking, and generally looks downwards upon seeing a police officer. He would be likely to call at corkcutters for employment at Newcastle, Sunderland, South Shields, or some of the neighbouring towns. Information to be given to Superintendent Fenton, Borough Police Office, Richmond, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, June 5, Stolen on the 30th ultimo^ from Mr. George Calvert, of THOMAS WOOD, No. 1650, 43 years of age, 4 feet Ruswarp, a hWok clutii Topcoat ( found pawned), a silver tea 10 inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair, grey eyes, blind Spoon, marked ' H..' and au electro- plated dinner Fork, with of rghl eye and partially blind at left, scars on ihroat and tour prongs.. i y F.
