Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the pur- pose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear tbe Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to Mr. W. C. %* Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As HO charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from tbe regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Mall, London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. INFORMATIONS. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen about 5 p. m. on the 28th ultimo, from the person of Samuel Jones, of Rotherham, forgeman, while at the Rother- ham Steeple Chases, a gold Geneva Watch, No. 14665, the figure ' I' is rubbed « ff the dial. By a man about 24 yeais of age, 6 feet 4 or 6 inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair, and dressed in black cloth coat and trousers, much worn, a flat cap with peak, and a red muffler. Stolen on the 27th ultimo, from a gentleman, at the corner of Cranbourne street and St. Martin's- lme, a gold Swiss Watch, crest on back— two lions.| aws crossed, No. 9483.— Metropolitan Police, C Division, Apiil 1. Stolen from the person, between 12 p. m. 29: h, and 10 a. m. 30th ultimo, a patent lever chronometer silver Watch, No. 14080, maker Alexander Leadiham, Aberdeen. Information to be given to Chief Constable Hewett, Tynemonth.— Bow- street, April 1. Stolen on the 26th ultimo, from a gent'einan, in High- street, Whitechapel, a gold lever Watch, white dial, brass pin in swivel, a gold Albert Chain, oval links, gold bar with knob at each end, and small gold Ring, with spring for trinkets, attached. By a man, 25 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, fair complexion ; dressed in dark clothes1.— Metropolitan Police, H Division, April 1. Stolen from the person of a gentleman at Kidderminster Steeple Chases, on the 29th ultimo, an old fashioned gold Watch, and a silver black lever Watch, No. 4802. Information to be given to Superintendent Stanton, Stourport, Worcestershire. — Boio- street, April 1. Stolen from the person at Bangor Steeplechases, on the 28th ultimo : a gold skeleton lever Watch, winds up on face, much scratched at keyhole ; a lady's gold Geneva ditto ; an old fashioned gold Geneva ditto, broke off at swivel; and a silver lever ditto, enamel face, ' Humphrey Roberts' engraved inside case. Information to be given to Superintendent Bolton, Hanmer, Flintshire.— Bow- sreet, April 1. Stolen on the 15th instant, from a female, while in the Brompton- road, a lady's gold finger Ring, Indian setting, five stones ( two diamonds, three emeralds). By a man, 28 years of age, 5 feet 11 inches high, very stout, black curly hair, small black moustache, aquiline nose, a foreigner, and of Jewish appearance ; dressed in a dark blue oveicoat, French hat, and square- toed boots, and carried a brown srlk umbrelb.— Metro- politan Police, B Division, March 22. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. During the night of the 27th ultimo, the National Schools at Oakham were broken and entered, and stolen therefrom : about 2s. in Coppers; two Draft Beards, one black and brown squares, the other black and white, on the white are figures in pencil; two sets of Chessmen, one black and the other brown ; two white Fox and Geese Boards and Pegs ; two brown Solitaires, with marbles and green bags, one bag darker than the other. Supposed by tramps. A reward of £ 1 will be given on conviction of the offenders by the Rev. J, Mould, tbe vicar. On th • night of the 28th ultimo, the dwelling- house of John Humphrey, of Leigh, was broken and entered, and the following property stolen : six silver Table Spoons, 2 marked • R. M H.,' 2 ' F.,' and 2 ' W. L. F.'; fourteen Tea ditto, 9 marked * R. M. H.,' 4 ' M. C.,' and 1 supposed with a cross ; a pair of silver Sugar Tongs, marked ' R. M. H,'; two pairs ditto, plated ; an old- fashioned silver Cream Jug, marked - T. S. F.'; a pair of silver Spectacles, a Razor in red case, an old brown Jacket, and a Box containing about £ 5 in Gold and Silver. Information to be given to Superintendent Dance, Tunbridge, Kent.— Bow- itreet, April 1. A shop on the Chain Pier, Biighton, was broken open, during the night of tbe 20th ultimo, and the following articles stolen, the property of Mr. John Pointing : 50 pebble Brooches, set in silver, different shapes. A quantity of smaller Brooches and Lockets, set in silver. 12 Penholders, mounted in silver. 16 pebble Bracelets cased in silver. 2 carbuncle Bracelets. 20 pebble Bracelets. 1 onyx Casket, not lined, with four naked figures, one at each corr: er. And a quantity of other Jewellery. I long Nightgown, cut out, but not made up. 4 pairs of women's Drawers, quite new, not been washed. Information to he given to Chief Constable White, Brighton. — Bow- street, April 1. Between the 15th and 25th instant, the dwelling- house of Martha Lamb, of Li no ley, widow, was broken and entered, and the following property stolen therefrom : a pair of black cloth Trousers, with fall fronts, and brown cotton lining; a black cloth Vest, single- breasted, with slate- coloured lining ; a light- coloured stuff Vest, double- breasted, lined with white cotton ; a pair of Wellington Boots; and a pair of brown wool'en cloth Gloves with scarlet tops ; all the articles were part worn. A pair of old elastic- side boots, and a pair of old wor. ited stockings were left behind in the bouse. Suspicion is attached to a tramp, a man about 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 ii ches high, stoutly made, fresh looking, sandy hair and whiskers ; dressed in a dark shabby suit. Information to be given to Superii tendent Sy kes, Police Office, Otley, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, March 29. About 11 p. m. on the 27th instant, the shop of a tailor and draper, at Bulton, was entered by false keys, and I he fol- lowing property stolen : about six pieces of brown and black and white and black tweed Cloth, from 2^ to 5 yards long ; a piece of grey tweed ditto, 12 yards long ; a piece of blue black ditto, 7 jaids long ; 3 pieces of jet black ditto, 7 yards long ; and several other pieces of mixture ditto. During the night of the 27th instant, a dwelling- house at Bolton was broken and entered, and the following property stolen: a blue cloth Top Coat, velvet collar, torn at right hand pocket and darned, and covered buttons ; a dark blue cloth body Coat, dark buttons ; a short ditto, torn under right arm ; three white Stockings ; a peach and white striped Skirt, drabet bii ding ; a white flannel Petticoat, calico binding. Information to be given to Chief Constable Hairis, Bolton, Lancashire.— Bow- street, March 29. During the night of the 27th or early on the 28th instant, the National School at Oakham, was broken and entered and the following property stolen therefrom : about two shillings in Coppers, two draft Boards, one black and brown squares, the other black and white, on the white squares are figures in pencil, two sets of Chess Men, one black and one brown, two white fc x and geese Boards and Pegs, two brown Solitaires, with marbles aud green bags, one bag darker than the other. Information io be given to Chief Constable Mitchell, Oakham, Rutland.— Boic- street, March 29. CHARLES E. SMITH, advertised in the Police Gazette of the llth instant, charged with housebreaking at Ironbridge, is still at large ; he is supposed to have been in Liverpool since he absconded, has friends there and at St. Helen's, is likely to try to get to sea or enlist, and is a good scholar. £ 2 reward will be paid on his conviction. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Richardson, Wellington, or to Sergeant Howells, Madeley, Salop.— Bow- street, Mmch 27. Between 9 p. m. on the 24th and 8 a. m. on the 25th inst., the pawnbroker's shop of William Waterhouse, of Dukinfield, Cheshire, was broken and entered, and the following property stolen therefrom : a grey witney Overcoat; twelve black cloth Coats, of various cuts and patterns ; twenty ladies' black silk Jackets, half- tights ; a Paisley scarf Shawl; a blue and white Counterpane ; a German silver Watch ; and about £ 2 in copper Money. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Little, Hyde, or to Sergeant Leah, Constabulary Station, Dukinfield, Cheshire.— Bow- street, March 27. On the night of the 14th instant, the dwelling- house of Mr. John Hodgson, Union row, Darlington, was feloniously entered during the temporary absence of the family, and a silver Watch, 7s. 9d., several articles of Wearing Apparel, and a whife- hafted Pocket Knife with four blades aud a small file, stolen therefrom. The wearing appar< 1 was pawned at Leeds on the 15th and 16th, and the watch at Barnsley on the 18th instant. By a man of the following description ( who is known by the name of SCOTTY) : about 20 years of age, 6 feet 5 inches high, brown hair, no whiskers, has a number of pustules on face, slender figure, and speaks with a Scotch accent; dressed when laBt seen in a white linen jacket, grey mixture cloth trousers much worn about the knees, and dark cloth Scotch cap with thistle on side. He sometimes sings at low bet r houses, and stays at common lodgii g houses, and is supposed to be known to the police of Leeds aud Newcastle- on- Tyne. Information to be Liven to Superintendent Rogers, Police Office, Darlington.— Bow street, March 25. About 4 a. m. on the 23rd instant, a pawnbroker's Bhop in Saltord, was burglariously entered, and the following articles stolen therefrom : a lady's silver Geneva Watch, maker ' Gardiner, Manchester, No. 15944,' engraved back, also engraved on dial and inner case, silver dome; a gold plated albert Guard, a steel chain, aud a man's black billycock hat. Any person giving such information as will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders, and recovery of the property, shall receive reward, on appli- cation to the Chief Constable, Tow n Hall, Salford.— Bow- street, March 25. On the night of the 19th instant, the dwelling house of Mrs. Elizabeth Miller, situate in Bridge- street, Worksop, was broken and entered, and the follow ng property stolen there- from : a siver Cruet Stand, a pair of silver- mounted Spectacles, castor Stoppers, a pair of plain silver Sugar Tones; a small silver Sugar Spoon, marked • I. M. M.' ; a silver Fork, three Table Covers ; two Over Coats, one grey, the other black, with magenta lining ; a small Compass, with red morocco case ; and a rosewood Writing Desk, inlaid with pearL A reward of Five Guineas will be paid by the Worksop Association for the Pro- secution of Felons, to any person ( not being the actual offen- ders) who shall give such information as will lead to the appre- hension and conviction of the offender or offenders; and a further^ reward of Five Guineas will be paid by the said Mrs. Miller. Information to be given to Superintendent Wimant, County Police Station, Worksop, Nota.— Bow- street, March 25. During the night of the 20th instant, the shop of Mrs. Taylor, of Bolton, draper, was broken and entered, and the following property stolen: a piece of brown alpaca, about 50 yards long, 28 inches wide; 8 yards of brown Winsey, 27 inches wide; three pairs of children's Socks, red plaid ; a grey cloth Shirt, unmade, has four robes, supposed puce and white; fifteen Dressing Combs, nine with brass tops ; and about 25s. in Silver and Copper. Information to be given to Superinten- dent Bull, West Riding Constabulary, Bradford.— Bow- street, March 25. Between 11 p. m. on the 18th and 4- 30 a. m. on the 19th instant, the broker's shop belonging to Wm. Cooper, of Bridge- street, Hindley, was broken and entered, and stolen therefrom: a silver patent lever Watch, with a black stuff Guard and Key attached ; and a silver verge ditto ditto, patent lever pattern, No. 8322, with minute hand. The patent lever watch has been found pawned in Wigan, by a m;- n about 25 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, slender make, thin face, dark com- plexion, tuft of hair on chin, and wore a dark coat. Informa- tion to be given to Superintendent Ellison, Pemberton, Wigan, Lancashire.— Bow- street, March 22. Between 9 p. m. on the 18th and 6- 30 a. m. on the 19th instant, the dwelling- house of Simeon Green, of Northoram, was broken and entered, during the absence of the family, and the following property stolen : two faded blue bed Quilts, two Blankets, one shorter than the other, and one is whipped round the top with red worsted ; three cotton Sheets, one new, the others much worn and mended ; a short Pillow slip ; a magenta and black Necktie ; a brown cloth slack back Coat, torn near the outside pockets, much worn, and small white spots io the cloth ; and a Sack. Information to be given to Superintendent Copeland, West Riding Constabulary, Halifax, Yorkshire.— Bow- strcet, March 22. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen from a straw yard at Oasley Farm, Wye, near Ashford, Kent, on the 27th ultimo, a small black rough coated forest mare Pony, about 11J hands high, long mane and tail, in good condition, aged, large splash of white near end of nose, was gored by a bullock on one one side some years ago, the wounds are still visible, is fork marked in* off ear, and had no shoes on. Information to be given to Superintendent Dewar, Police Station, Ashford, Kent.— Bow- street, April 1. Stolen from Brockley hill Farm, Edgware, Middlesex, during the night of the 27th ultimo, a bay Cob, 8 years old, about 14 hands high, white stripe on face, black spot on short rib, is fast, turns the forefeet out, and carries his tail up when going. £ 5 reward will be paid to any perssn giving suoh in- formation as may lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Mr. W. S. Tootell, Solicitor, Edgeware.— Bow- street, April 1. Description of BARTHOLOMEW PIPER, charged with Horse stealing : about 40 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, fresh complexion, light hair and whiskers, and dressed in fustian jacket and trousers, round cap, sometimes wears a round frock ; he travels the country gathering rags and bones, and is supposed to be in Woolwich, Sittingbourne, or Maidstone. Information to be given to Superintendent Everest, Chatham. Bow- street, April 1. Stolen from a field at Lutterworth, during the night of the 26th instant, a black horse Pony, about 17 years old, 14 hands high, rough head, long rough mane, and long tail. Supposed to have been stolen from a field situafe at Newlands, in the parish of Caldbeck, Cumberland, on the night of the 7th, or morning of the 8th instant, 9 Highland horned ewe Sheep, in lamb, marked ' H. W. 2,' on the near horns, and * T. B.' with tar on the near side ; 4 half- bred gimmer hog Sheep, in lamb, marked 4 T. B.' with tar on the near side. Stolen from the house of John Whittaker, painter, Stone, Staffordshire, on the morning of the 26th instant, a silver lever Watch, No. 22045, a Geneva Watch, aud a black cloth Jacket ( man's size): by a man w ho lodged in the house a week, 22 years of age, 9 eet 7 inches higb, light complexion, dark brown hair, light moustache, small imperial, painter by trade, anchor on riuht hand between fore finger and thumb, spot about the size of a shilling on back of left hand ; dressed in the stolen jacket, black ai d grey mixture trousers, light vest, aud black felt hat, round at top. Information to be given to Superintendent Gregory, Malton, Yorkshire.— Bow strcet, March Absconded on the 24th instant, from South Eston, near Middles borough, charged with stealing Fowls ( recovered): JOHN THOMPSON, 34 years of age, 6 IVet 8 inches high, dark brown hair and whiskers ; was dressed when last seen in a black cloth shootiotf coat, dark mixture trousers, and black cap ; is a native of Muiskip, near Borobridge, has been working at the Ironstone Mines, and has worked at Kella, in the county of Durham.
