POLICE 3 GAZETTE. FCG AUTDOROG, CONTAINING The substance of all Informations received, ir cases of Felony and of Misdemeanors of an aggravated nature, and against Receivers of Stolen Goods, reputed. Thieves, and Offenders escaped from Custody, with the time, the place, and the circumstance of the Offence. The Names of Persons charged with Offences who are known hut not in custody, and a Description of those who are not known, their Appearance, Dress, and other marks of Identity. The Names of Accomplices and Accessories, with every particular which may lead to their Apprehension. A Description, as accurate as possible, of Property that has been stolen, and a minute Description of Stolen Horses, for the purpose of tracing and recovering them. No. 438G MONDAY, MARCH 25, 1867. { jSVotiSce.— It is requested that all communications for the pur- post of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear tile Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made aud addressed to Mr. W. D. BURNABY, the Editor, Police Court, Bow- street, London, W. C. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As HO charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all ILetters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from the regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Mall, London, S. W.," aa they cannot be published without his authority. INFORMATIONS. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON- Stolen on the 16th instant, from a female, while in the Brompton- road, a lady's gold finger Ring, Indian setting, five stones ( two diamonds, three emeralds). By a man, 28 years of age, 6 feet 11 inches high, very stout, black curly hair, small black moustache, aquiline noBe, a foreigner, and of Jewish appearance ; dressed in a dark blue oveicoat, French hat, and square- toed boots, and carried a brown silk umbrell'.— Metro- politan Police, B Division, March 22. Stolen from the person of William O'Kell, between War- rington and Daresbury, on the 24th ultimo, an old- fashioned silver Verge Watch ; has ' Peter O'Kell, Sutton,' engraved on the back, and yellow Chain with Seal and Key attached. In- formation to be given to Superintendent Andrews, Lymm, Warrington, or to Sergeant Morris, Stockton Heath, near Warrington.— Bow- street, March 15. Stolen from the person of a gentleman, at the steeple chases, Bangor, Flintshire, on the 12th instant, a silver Lever Watch, Bradshaw, Whitchurch, maker, with a brass albert Guard attached. Information to be given to Superintendent Bolton, Haumer, Flintshire.— Bow- street, March 16. BURGLARY AND HOUSI BREAKING. On the night of the 14th instant, the dwelling- house of Mr. John Hodgson, Union- row, Darlington, was feloniously entered during the temporary absence of the family, and " a silver Watch, 7s. 9d., several articles of Wearing Apparel, and a white- hafted Pocket Knife with four blades and a small file, stolen therefrom. The wearing appartl was pawned at L- eds on the 16th and 16th, and the watch at Barnsley on the 18th instant. By a man of the following description ( who is known hy the name of SCOTTY) : about 20 years of age, 6 feet b inches high, brown hair, no whiskers, has a number of pustules on face, slender figure, and speaks with a Scotch accent; dressed when last seen in a white linen jacket, grey mixture cloth trousers much worn about the knees, and dark cloth Scotch cap with thistle on side. He sometimes sings at low beer houses, and stays at common lodging- houses, and is supposed to be known to the police of Leeds and Newcastle- on- Tyne. Information to be given to Superintendent Rogers, Police Office, Darlington— Bow- street, March 25, About 4 a. m. on the 23rd instant, a pawnbroker's shop in Salford, was burglariously entered, and the following articles stolen therefrom : a lady's silver Geneva Watch, maker ' Gardiner, Manchester, No. 16944,' engraved back, also engraved on dial and inner case, silver dome ; a gold plated albert Guard, a steel chain, and a man's black billycock hat. Any person giving such information as will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders, and recovery of the property, shall receive £ 5 reward, on appli- cation to the Chief Constable, Town Hall, Salford.— Bow- street, March 26. On the night of the 19th instant, the dwelling- house of Mrs. Elizabeth Miller, situate in Bridge- street, Worksop, was broken and entered, and the follow ng property stolen there- from : a siver Cruet Stand, a pair of silver- mounted Spectacles, castor Stoppers, a pair of plain silver Sugar Tongs; a small silver Sugar Spoon, marked • I. M. M.'; a silver Fork, three Table Covers ; two Over Coats, one grey, the other black, with magen'a lining ; a small Compass, with red morocco case ; and a rosewood Writing Desk, inlaid with pearl. A reward of Five Guineas will be paid by the Worksop Association for the Pro- secution of Felons, to any person ( not being the actual offen- ders) who shall give Buch information as will lead to the appre- hension and conviction of the offender or offenders; and a further reward of Five Guineas will be paid by the said Mrs. Miller Information to be given to Superintendent Wimant, County Police Station, Worksop, Nots.— Bow- street, March 26. During the night of the 20ili instant, the shop of Mrs. Taylor, of Bolton, draper, was broken an 1 entered, and the following property stolen : a piece of brown alpaca, about 60 yards long, 28 inches wide ; 8 yards of brown Winsey, 27 inches wide; three pairs of children's Socks, red plaid ; a grey- cloth Shirt, unmade, has four robes, supposed puce and white; fifteen Dressing Combs, nine with brass tops ; and about 25s. in Silver and Copper. Information to be given to Superinten- dent Bull, West Riding Constabulary, Bradford.— Bow- street, March 25. Between 11 p. m. on the 18th and 4' SO a. m. on the 19th instant, the broker's shop belonging to Wm. Cooper, of Bridge- street, Hindley, was broken and entered, and stolen therefrom : a silver patent lever Watch, with a black stuff Guard and Key attached ; and a silver verge ditto ditto, patent lever pattern. No. 8322, with minute hand. The patent lever watch has been found pawned iu Wigan, by a msn about 25 years of age, 6 feet 9 inches high, slender make, thin face, dark com- plexion, tuft of hair on chin, and wore a dark coat. Informa- tion to be given to Superintendent Ellison, Pemberton, Wigan, Lancashire.— Bow- street, March 22. Between 9 p. m. on the 18th and 6- 30 a. m. on the 19th instant, the dwelling- house of Simeon Green, of Northoram, was broken and entered, during the absence of the family, and the following property stolen : two faded blue bed Quilts, two Blankets, one shorter than the other, and one is whipped round the top with red worsted ; three cotton Sheets, one new, the others much worn and mended; a short Pillow slip ; a magenta and black Necktie ; a brown cloth slack back Coat, torn near the outside pockets, much worn, and small white spots in the cloth ; and a Sack. Information to be given to Superintendent Copeland, West Riding Constabulary, Halifax, Yorkshire.— Bow- slreet, March 22. Further information respecting the burglary at Saltaire, in the township of Shipley, on the lGth, and advertised in the Police Gazette of the 18th instant: JAMES SHARP, of Sun- derland, in the county of Durham, sailor, was apprehended in Leeds on the 17th instant, with the whole of the stolen pro- perty in his possession, and is committed for trial at the next general quarter sessions to be holden at Wakefield, in the county of York, in April next, for the said offence. He is 32 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, dark complexion, dark brown hair, grey eyes, black whiskers, slightly pockpitted, ship frame, a woman, and the letters ' T. S., J. S., M. S.,' tattooed on left arm; dressed in a blue guernsey smock, white trousers which were fastened up with a belt, an old black billy- cock hat, and old shoes. Had been about a fortnight in Brad- ford and neighbourhood hawking religious tracts and begging. Information to be given to Superintendent Ball, West Riding Constabulary, Bradford.— Bow- street, March 20. Further information respecting the burglary at Wooburn Green, Bucks, on the 9th instant, and advertised in the Police Gazette on the 13th instant: a Pocket- Book, marked' Tufrey,' containing receipts and other papers was ( in addition to other property described) stolen therefrom. A bricklayer's chisel, newly forged, cut from a | bar of round iron and 18J inches in length was left in the house by the burglars. Supposed by two men : one about 25 or 30 years of age, 6 feet 7 or 8 inches high, dark complexion, small dark whiskers, and dark brown hair; dressed in a dark rough coat, blue guernsey shirt, blue neckerchief, and rough cap with a piece of ribbon at the side. The other about 5 feet 6 inches high ; dressed in a dark coat, with a white wrapper tied round the neck, and felt hat. A reward of £ 20 will be paid to any person or persons giving such information as may lead to the apprehension and con- viction of the offenders, and a further reward of £ 5 will be paid to any person who can identify the chisel and the person for whom it was forged. Information to be given to Super- intendent Shepherd, High Wycombe, Bucks.— Box- street, March 18. On the night of the 13th instant, the Co- operative Stores, Eastgate- street, Gloucester, were broken and entered, and the following money and property stolen therein, viz.: £ 13 in Gold, £ 14 3s. 10d. in Silver, and 17s. 6d. in Coppers, which was in two bags ( one a dark grey canvas, the other a brown holland), and a 1 lb. packet of twist Tobacco, in paper, on which was printed ' R. & J. Hill's Fine London Alloa Roll.'' With the money was a new cracked half Sovereign, a Shilling, which had a hole in it, and a penny Piece flattened, as though it had been under a railway carriage, and can be identified. £ 6 reward will be paid to any person who will give such infor- mation to Superintendent Griffin, Gloucester, as will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or oflenders.— Bow- street, March 15. On the night of the 3rd instant, the house of Richard Stone, draper, High- street, Aldershot, Hants, was broken and entered, and the following property stolen therefrom : eighty lengths of bonnet Ribbons, from 400 to 600 yards of black, coloured, dress, and bonnet Silks, fifty to sixty gentlemen's Cravats aud Bandanas, fourteen dozen ladies' best French Gloves, five dozen common ditto, and a carpet Bag. Infor- mation to be given to Sergeant Scott, Aldershot, or to Super- intendent Howard, Odiham, Hants.— Bow- street, March 13. About 1 a. m. on the 11th instant, the dwelling- house of Mr. John Clayton, of Adwalton, brickmaker, was broken and entered, and a pair of light hglf Wellington Boots, newly heeled, stolen therefrom. Three men are suspected : one from 25 to 30 years of age, tall and slender ; the others from 20 to 26 years of age, short aud stout; all dressed in dark slack- back ed coats and caps. Information to be given to Superin- dent Ball, Court House, Bradford, Yorkshire.— Low- street, March 13. Between 1 and 5 30 a. m. on the 11th instant, the dwelling- house of Mrs. Clarke, beerseller and boot dealer, Wombwell, was broken and entered, and the following articles stolen there- from : five paiis of women's elastic- side Boots, kid top:, patent leather fronts, three pairs marked ' 7/ 3' on sole, and the other two ' 715; ' four pairs of girls' elastic- side Boots, kid tops, patent leather fronts, marked on sole ' 3/-' and ' 3/ 6;' four pairs of men's strong lace- up Boots, heavily nailed, brass eyelet- holes ; four pairs of men's lace- up Boots, marked ' 10/-' and ' 10/ 0/ three of them have brass eyelets, the other plain holes ; a pair of boy's strong lace- up Boots, iron plates on heels, brass eyelet- holes ; a box of Cigars ; and 8s, in Copper and Silver. Information to be given to Superintendent Green- halgh, West Riding Constabulary, Barnsley.— Bow- street, March 13. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Supposed to have been stolen from a field situate at Newlauds, in the parish of Caldbeck, Cumberland, on the night of the 7th, or morning of the 8th instant, 9 Highland horned ewe Sheep, in lamb, marked ' H. W. 2,' on the near horns, and ' T. B.' with tar on the near side ; 4 half- bred gimmer hog Sheep, in lamb, marked ' T. B.' with tar on the near side. Also, on the night of the 17th, or morning of the 18th inBt., one half- bred gimmer hog Sheep, in lamb, marked ' T. B.' with tar on the near side. Information to be given to Superintendent Bird, Constabulary Office, Wigton, or at the County Chief Constable's Office, Carlisle.— Bow- street, March 25. Stolen from a fieldvat Huby, Sutton- on- the- Forest, near York, six wether Sheep, the property of Thomas Wilkinson, farmer, by GEORGE BUSFIELD, about 64 years of sge, 6 feet 8 inches high, ruddy complexion, blue eyes, brown hair, slender figure, and knock- kneed ; dressed in a plain grey coat and hat, aud coiduroy trousers. Information to be given to Inspector Hunter, Easingwold, or to Superintendent Driscoll, He worth, York.— Bow- street, March 22. Found at the parish of Middleton, on the 13th instant, and supposed to have been stolen, two Welsh Por^ s, both geldings, one a bright bay, 12 hands high, 4 years ola; tail cut square above the hocks, and has three shoes on ; the other a dark brown, 12 hands high, 4 years old, white star on forehead, and not shod. Information to be given to Inspector Boulter, Coleshill, Warwickshire.— Bow- street, March 22. On the 14th instant a man, about 40 years of age, 6 feet 6 inches high, dark hair and complexion, thin face, and dressed in dark clothes, tight fitting overcoat, and narrow brim hat, left at a road- side inn, in the parish of Benenden, an aged bright bay Mare, 15 hands high, in good condition, black hoofs, saddle marked, and speck in off eye ; a good double- rein Bridle with pelham bit, and a very good Saddle ( supposed to have been stolen). Information to be given to Superintendent Smith, Kent Constabulary, Cranbrook.— Bow- street, March 22. Stolen on the night of the 15th instant, from a farm at Elveden, Suffolk, the property of His Highness Prince Dulep Sing, a bright chesnut cart Mare, rising 8 years old, about 16J hands high, long mane and tail, in good condition, has a few white hairs on the off hind quarter, and a small star on the forehead, and had that day been fresh shod. £ 30 reward will be paid for the apprehension of the offender or offenders and the recovery of the property. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Glasier, Mildenhall, Suffolk.— Bow- street, March 20. Supposed to have been stolen on the 9ih ultimo, from Ditton, a bay Mare, 4 years old, 14 hands high, roman nose, tail cut square, blemish in near fore leg, never shod.— Metro- politan Police, V Division, March 20. Found straying, and supposed to have been stolen, at Bentley, near Atherstone, about the 2nd instant, a brown Mare, aged, about 16 hands high, white blaze down the face, hind foot and near side white, hair rubbed off shoulders, bang tail, and in low condition. Information to be given to Inspector Hursher, County Police Station, Atherstone, Warwickshire.— Bow- street, March 18. Found straying on the 1st instant, at Packington, and supposed to have been stolen, a bay gelding cart Colt, 2 years old, star in forehead and white forefeet to fetlock joint. Also an iron- grey mare Pony, 11J bands high, recently shod, and long tail, " information to be given to Inspector Boulter, Coles- hill, Warwickshire.— Bow- street, March 16. Stolen from a field at Poyston Water, in the parish of Rudbaxton, on the 9th instant, a light bay Mare, in good con- dition, and heavy in foal, black mane, which parts in centre, and falls on each side, scar over right eye from a cut, switch tail, and has been recently shod all round. Information to be given to Captain Stokes, Chief Constable for Pembrokeshire, or to A. P. S. Clarke, Chief Constable's Office, Haverfordwest. — Bow- street, March 13. Supposed to have been stolen from a field near Measham, Derbyshire, on the night of the 23rd ultimo, a dark roan Pony, rising 3 years old, and a bay cart Colt, 1 year old, the property of Mr. John Ball, Measham, If stolen, a reward of 8. By a young man, a Londoner, who went on board the ship the same day, and intended to proceed to sea, about 17 years ot age, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, pale and thin, very thin light hair, and supposed to be weaving the stolen clothes. Description of ROBERT LLOYD, alias BOB THE NAILOR, who absconded from Shrewsbury on the 9th inst., charged with larceny : about 36 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, dark complexion and hair, hazel eyes, long face, broken, nose, weak eyes, and has ' R. L.' on right arm ; he is a hawker of earthenware, and well known in Shropshire and adjoining counties. Information to be given to Head Constable ifughes, Boiough Police Office, Shrewsbury, who holds a warrant, for his apprehension.— Bow- street, March 22. Al conded, charged with embezzling £ 1 7s., the monies of James Harding, of Wincanton; WILLIAM MILLET, of Stal- bridge, Weston, Dorsetshire, engine driver to a steam thrashing machine, ab- ut 24 years of age, 5 feet- 10J inches high, ruddy complexion, small moustache, dark hair ; dressed in pilot coat and Scotch cap ( brass ornament in front). Information to bo given to Superintendent Sheppard, Police Office, Wincanton, Somersetshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street., Ma> ch 20. Stolen on the 14th instant, from 197, Pentonville- road, a - ilver verge Watch, No. 8767— 8755, and gold Chain attached : by a man, 30 years of age, 6 feet 7 inches high, fair hair and complexion, tuft on chin ; dark brown coat, tight fitting light trousers, and brown cap.— Metropolitan Police, G Division, March 20. Description of HUGH HALL, agent at Manchester for the Farnley Iron Co., Leeds, who has absconded, cliaiged on a warrant with embezzling upwards of £ 100 : he is about 35 years of nge, 6 feet 9 or 10 inches high, dark complexion, dark beard and moustache, and has a squeaking voice; is a native of Lake, near Ll- mphey, county ot Pembroke, South Wales, where he ha? a brother. He was formerly a clerk at the rail- way station, Low Moor, tear Bradford, aud is well known ij the neighbourhoods of Leeds and Manchester. The prisoner is well dressed, of gentlemanly appearance, 25 years of age, 5 ft. 9 ins. high, stout, well made, fresh looking, dark hair and eyes, whiskers shaved off, little hair under the chin, and mousteche ; says he is a grainer and that his father lives at 20, Paddington- green, London, that he left Cork on the 8th instant in the ' Halcyon,' arrived in Liverpool on the 10th instant, and came to Gainsborough by packet on the 15th instant.
