Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the pur- pose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear tbe Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to Mr. W. D. BURNABY, the Editor, Police Court, Bow- street, London, W. C. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor mn » t be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from tbe regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Mall, London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without bis authority. INFORMATIONS. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING, On the night of the If th ultimo, some person placed a male child ( dressed in white calico skip, with needlework round each cuff, white calico petticoat, black and white woollen handkerchief, black cape with three pockets, and trimmed with braid, red socks, while wool boots, and white hood) upon a door step in Broughton- street. in Salford, and there left it. The child was taken to the Woikhouse, and there died on the 28th ult., from the effects of cold and exposure. Her Majesty's Government now offer £ 60 reward to any person who shall give such information and evidence as shall lead to the dis- covery and convictif n of the person who deserted the child ; and Her Majesty's gracious pardon will be granted to any accomplice ( not being the person who actually deserted the child) who shall give such evidence as shall lead to the same result. Information to be given to the Chief Constable, Tow n Ilall, Salford, Lancashire.— bow- street, March 11. On the 25th ultimo, ALFRED CHARLTON, of the parish of Halesowen, Worcestershire, did unlawfully and mali- ciously wound one Thomas Potter. A warrant has been issued for the apprehension of Charlton, who has absconded : he is about 36 years of age, about 6 feet 5 inches high, thin dark brown whiskers, and straight hair. Information to be given to the Superintendent of Police, Halesowen, Worcestershire.— — Bow- street, March 11. About 4 a. m. on the 4th instant, the Body of a full- grown male child, was found in an ash- pit behind the ' Wellington' inn, Barnsley, wrapped in a portion of an old print dress. Tho Body was so much decomposed, that it could not be ascertained whether it was still born or not. An inquest has been held, and a verdict of ' Found dead,' returned. Information to be given to Superintendent Greenhalgh, West Riding Con- stabulary, Barnsley,— Bow- street, March 8. On the 20th ultimo, the body of a full grown Male Child was found, wrapped up in a piece of an old brown coburg Skirt, in St. Paul s Churchyard, Preston. A coroner's inquest was held on the body, and a verdict of' Wilful murder' returned against some person or persons unknown. Two tramps, of the following description, were seen sitting near the place shortly before the body was found, and are strongly suspected : a man, about 40 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, pale complexion, dark hair ; dressed in a fustian coat and trousers, and black billycock hat, all old and dirty ; and a woman, about 36 years of age, 4 feet 9 inches high, pale complexion ; dressed in a dark straw bonnet, dark dress and shawl, all very old and dirty. The piece of skirt the child was wrapped in appears to have been cut with a knite. having a very ragged appearance, and about 18 inches from the bottom. £ 10 reward will be paid to any person or persons giving information that may lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders, upon application to Head Constable Dunn, Preston.— Bon- street, March 4. CORNELIUS PRYCE, « flie gipsy charged with felo- niously wounding Henrietta Smith, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 29th October last, has not yet been apprehended. He haa been seen several times lately in Shropshire. Information to be given to Superintendent Danily, Newtown, Montgomeryi- hire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Boio- street, March 4. On the 19th ultimo, the dead body of a newly- born male Child was found in the River Weaver, on the Anderton side, with two pieces of tape and a white cotton stocking tied tightly round its neck ; the body was wrapped in a piece of white cotton, and over that an old dark red striped petticoat, pieced round the bottom with dark brown linsey about 4 inches deep. A coroner's inquest was held on the 20th ultimo, and a verdict returned of * Wilful Murder against some person or persons unknown.' Information to be given to Superintendent Andrews, Lymm, or to Sergt. Naylor, Comberbacb, Cheshire. — Bow- street, March 1. On the morning of the 17th ultimo, the Body of a newly- born female Child, was found in the Wem Field, in the borough of Nea'b, tied up in a canvas tool bag. An inquest was held on the 21st ultimo, before H. Cuthbertson, Esq, coroner, when the jury returned a verdict of ' Wilful Murder ' against some person or persons unknown. The Secretary of State has offered a reward of £ 50 to any person who will give such information and evidence as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders, and will advise the grant of Her Majesty's gracious pardon to any accomplice, not being the person who actually murdered the child. Informa- tion to be given to Superintendent Phillips, Borough Police Station, Neath, Glamorganshire.— Bow- street, March 1. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen on the 4th instant, from the person of a gentleman at Darlington, a Pocket- book, containing £ 176 in £ 5 Bank of England Notes, all of which are dated London, 16th November, 1866, and Nos. from 20,011 upwards. Information to be given to Superintendent Rogers, County Constabulary, Darlington. — Boa- street, March 8. Stolen on the 2nd instant, from a gentleman, in Parlia- ment street, a gold Watch, with glass face, chased cases ; also a gold snake pattern albert Guard, onyx Locket, a bugle shape Seal, crest— a leopard's head, with tleur- de- lis in mouth attached. — Metropolitan Police, A Division, Match 8. Stolen , from the person of a farmer at Onston, a silver lever Watch, maker ' G. Willis, Northwich, No. 38 831.' Information to be given to Superintendent Gwynne, Tarporley, or to Police Constable ( 76) Shaw, Police Station, Weaverham, Cheshire.— Bow- street, March 8. Stolen about 12' 4o a. m. on the6th instant, from the person of a gentleman in Stretford- road, Hulme, a gold lever Watch, minus the bow, No. 48222. £ 5 reward will Le paid on recovery of the watch. Information to be given to Superintendent Rooking, D Division, Police Station, Cboilton Town Hall, or at any Police Station in Manchester.— B'ow- slrcei, March 6. Stolen on the 2nd instant, from the person of a lady in Macclesfitld, a small- siztd gold Geneva Watch, with gold dial, No. 16500, and has a gold Guard and short Albert Chain with two Lockets and a Cross attached. A reward of 2s. will be paid to any person giving such information as will ' ead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders and recovery of the property. Information to be given to Chief Constable Etchells, Town- hall, Macclesfield.— Bow street, March G. Stolen from the person of a lady whilst travelling by a train from Birktnhead to Llandrillo, Merionethshire on the 28th ultimo, a leal her Purse containing £ 3 in Gold, and from 4 to s. in Silver, a Receipt for the payment of a sack of Flour, and a post- office Order drawn at the General Post Office, Liverpool, and made payable at Manchester. Information t9 be given to Inspector Hughes, Bala, Merionethshire.— Bow street, March 4. Stolen from tho person on the evening of the 1st instant, at Basuhurch Races, . a gold English lever Watch, ' R. A.' engraved on the back, No. 695. Information to be given to Superintendent Gough, Oswestry, Salop.— Bow- street, March 4. A man of the following description isoharged with having, between 9 and 10 a. m on the 27th ult., demanded by threats and stolen from the person of one Ellen Yem, an old leather Purse, with common steel clasp, containing two Half- crowns, two Shillings, and a Sixpence : he is about 35 years of age, 6 feet 6 or 7 inches high, small tuft of hair on chin, little or no whiskers, and has a cut under one of his eyes ; dressed in a velveteen jacket, moleskin trousers and vest, trousers turned up at tbe legs, navvy boots, and black bowler hat, and has the appearance of a railway labourer. The robbery was committed in a wood called the Beauleau, about two miles from Mon- mouth, on the Coleford and Gloucester road, and the man is supposed to have gone in the direction of Gloucester. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Wheeldon, Borough Police, Monmouth.— Bow- street, March 1. Apprehended by the Police at Newport, Monmouthshire, charged with larceny from the person, MARY WESTON, states that she belongs to Clifton, Bristol, 30 years of age, 6 feet 3 or 4 inches high, good looking, light brown hair, blue eyes ; dressed in dark linsey dress, dark grey tweed waterproof cloak with hood buttoning up the front, dark straw bonnet trimmed with flowers, and lace veil, carried a black and white woollen shawl across her arm. Also ESTHER WALLACE, who states that she belongs to Hull, 26 years of age, dark complexion, long thin features, dark brown hair, dark eyes ; dressed in black merino dress, dark grey waterproof cloak, small black bonnet trimmed with black bugles, and a large lace veil. They arrived in the town from' Bristol, return tickets having been found in their possession. The names they have given are supposed to be fictitious, and they aie believed to have been previously convicted for a similar offence. They stand committed to take their trial at the next quarter sessions to be held at Usk on the 18th proximo. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Huxtable, Borough Police Office, Town Hall, Newport, Monmouthshire. — Bow street, March 1. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Description of CHARLES E. SMITH, late booking clerk at Ironbridge Station, Severn Valley Railway, charged with breaking into the dwelling- house of Mr. Richard Young, Station Master at, Ironbridge, on the 24th ultimo, and stealing a gold Watch ( since recovered) : he is about 17 years of age, about 6 feet 6 inches high, dark brown hair, fair complexion, smart and clean looking ; has been six years in the Duke of York's Military School, his father belor ged to 1st battalion 3rd Buffs. He absconded early on the 7th instant. £ 2 reward will be paid to any person giving such information as shall lead to his conviction. Information to he given to Chief Superintendent Richardson, Wellington ; to Sergeant Howells, Madeley ; or at the Police Station, Ironbridge, Salop.— Bow- street, March 11. Further information respecting the burglary at Coryton House, Kilmington, on the 22nd ultimo. A man of the fol- lowing description is supposed to be concerned in the burglary, as he inquired of several persons on the 21st, between Honiton and Kilmington, for Coryton House, the residence of W. Kaye, Esq.: about 30 yeais of age, 6 feet 7 or 8 inches high, well made, light complexion, rather low forehead, full or puraey eyes, light hair, light small moustache,- little or no whiskers, and peculiar expression of countenance ; dressed in a light snit, carrying a dark loose coat on his arm, and elastic- side boots. Information to be given to Superintendent Dote, Honiton, Devonshire.— Bow- street, March 11. On the night of the 4th instant, the cottage of Jeremiah Randall, situate at Foxfield, Hants, was burglariously entered, by two men with their faces blackened, and the following pro- perty stolen, viz.: a double- breasted black cloth frock Coat, with covered buttons, and a dam in the corner of one of the skirts ; a single- breasted black silk velvet Vest, with roll collar; a single- breasted green and yellow plaid. Jacket, with roll collar, and pocket on each side ; a green and yellow plaid Vest, with roll collar ; an old black cloth Coat, with covered buttons, and bound with black braid ; a calico Shirt, with linen collar and wristbands; a small coarse linen Sheet; an old silver Watch, with roinau figures ; 2 small Pistols, the nipple of one broken; about £ 3 Cs. in silver; nnd about 4s. in copper Money. Information to be given to Superintendent O'Long- land. Hants Constabulary, Petersfield.— Bow- street, March 11. On the night of the 8th instant a dwelling house in the parish of Bathford was broken and entered, and the following articles stolen therefrom : a Tea Spoon, marked ' W. W.'; a Caddy ; a Tea Spoon ; a Sugar Sifter ; a small Cream Jug; and a Ciuet Frame for seven bottles, all silver, and crest— a nag's head. Information to be given to Superintendent Morgan, County Police Station, Upper Bristol- road, Bath.— — Bow street, March 11. The dwelling - house of Mr. Benjamin Greaves of Worksop, cattle dealer, was burglariously entered during the absence of the family on the night of the 7th intant, and the following property stolen therefrom : two Hums about 221bseach ( in salt), and two Sovereigns. Information to be given to Superintendent Wimant, Police Station, Woihsop, Notts.— bow- st., March 11. Between the hours of 11 a. m. and 1 p. m., on the 2nd inst,, a small cottage situate at moreton, in the parish of Thornbury, was broken and entered durint the absence of the inmates, and a black cloth Jacket, two pockets outside and a breast pocket inside, lined with black, yellow sleeve linings, and black buttons ; a black roll collar Vest ; a red striped silk Handker- chief ; a white calico Shirt with Irish front; a child's small common Money Box, containing a few halfpence and three very old foreign coins, stolen theie'rom, the pu perty of John Screen, a labourer. A tramp, tall, middle aged ; dressed in an old dark or black suit, was seen loitering about the house about the time the robbery was committed. Information to be given to Superintendent Ellison, Chipping Sodbury, Glou- cestershire.— Bow- street, March 11. Between 8 a. m. und 5 p. m. on the 9th inst., the dwelling- house of William Kidd, labourer, of Claph. m- cum- Newby, was bioken and entered, and the- following property stolen there- from : a blue cotton Purse with steel ring and tassel at each end, containing a Sovereign in Gold and 6s. 9d. in Silver. Supposed by a man 30 years of age, 6 feet 8 or 9 inches high, fresh tomplexion, light brown hair, sandy whiskers, and stout built ; dressed in a grey coat and vest, tustian trousers, strong boots, billycock hat, and had the appearauce of a wandering vagrant. Information to he given to Superintendent Exton, West Riding Court House, lngleton, near Lancaster.— Bow- street, March 11. On the night of the 8th instant, the British School at St. Ives, Hunts, was brokeu and entered, and the following articles stolen therefrom: an 8 day dial Clock, u, arly new, mahogany case, steel hands, small holes near the points, ' H. Goodman, Esq.,' written on a small slip of paper, is pasted inside the case ; thret men's new unbleached cotton Shirts, plain breasts, without buttons; aud two or three checked cotton Dusters. Supposed by a man of the followiug descrip- tion, who was seen iu a hovel near tbe school at U' 30 p. m. : 40 to 45 years of age, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, slender build, fair complexion, very little whiskers nearly grey ; dressed in a dark frock coat, mixed light coloured trousers, high black hat, and blucher boots. It is probable that he may pa « n or sell the clock. He carried an uu. biella and a bUck wrapper, and may pass as a clock sailer ; he may be found wearing one of the shirts. Between 11 p m. on the 26th and 7 a. m. on the 27t'n ult., the dwelling home of Charles Sankey Souther, grocer, at Boughton- u. td- i- Blean, was burglariously broken and entered, and the following property stolen tkerefrom: a mahogany writing Desk, ah ut 18 inches long, 20 inches wide, and ubout 10 inches deep, lined with purple baiz- v containing a Book of Rules of the Kent and Canterbury Building Society, three Reports of the Boughton Gas and Coke Company, several receipted Bills, a number of private Letters; and a glass Ink- stand ; an electo- plated Table Spoon, marked ' V. S. S.;' sn electro- plated Gravy Spoon, marked ' C. S. C. S.;' an electro- plated Salt Spoon, o" iarked ' C. S S. ;' a plain common Ring ; three electro- plated Table. Forks ; a silver Pap Spoon ; a new Pocket- piece, imitation of a guinea, with a hole in it; about ninety Cigars ; th. ee or four 3d. Pieces, and a few Coppers. By two persons, whose footmarks were traced to aud from the hou* e; entrance was effected by forcing the fastening of the back window ; a skeleton key was left in the house, and several attempts were made with a jemmy or similar instru- ment. Between 10 and 11 a m. on the 27th ultimo, the dwelling of William Lingard, of Fotherby, Lincolnshire, was entered by means of breaking a p ne of glass in the pantry window, and taking out the fastei in , during the absence of the inmates, and the following property stolen therefrom : a small old- fashioned silver verjie Watch, with steel chain and a broken key attached ; a dark silk Handkerchief, with round spots in it ; £ G in Gold, and 15s. in Silver. Supposed by a man, 26 years of age, 5 feet 3. J inches high, light build, light brown hair, tandy whiskers and beard, which he has recently began to cultivate, light complexion, blue eyes, and D on left side ; dressed in grey light cloth blouse dark grey small ribbed cloth waistcoat, cotton cord trousers, white calico shirt, red necktie, and old black cloth cap with peak ; he is an iron moulder. He stated that be was a native ol Grantham, Lincolnshire, that he was in tbe Metropolitan Police one year and ten months in 18 8 9, and staioned at Islington all the time ; was in the Tower Hamlets Militia in 1854, and the Grenadier Guards the same year ; that he recently worked at his trade with Calvert, York, Samuelson, Hull, and Watson, Kirton- in- Lin'ey, Lin- colnshire. He had with him a black cloth coat with figured silk lining. He was discharged from Louth Prison, Lincoln- shire. on the 26th ultimo, having been committed for two months for felony at Great Grimsby, in the name of GEORGE FROST. Information to be given to Superintendent Woolven, Connty Police Station, Louth, Lincolnshire.— Bow- street, March 4. On the night of the 25th ultimo, the house of James Barnes, innkeeper, ' Black Horse' inn, Battle, Sussex, was burglariously enured, and the following property stolen there- from : a pink striped woollen Shirt, nearly rew, a small piece of Bread and Bacon, about J- pint of Brandy, 3s in silver, snd about 2s. in copper Coins ; the shirt can be identified. Infor- mation to be given at the Chief Constable's Office, Lewes, or to Deputy Chief Constable Thompson, Court House, Battle, Sussex.— Bow- street, March I. Fouud straying, and supposed to have been stolen, at Bentley, near Atherstone, about the 2nd instant, a brown Mare, aged, about Jfl bauds high, white blaxe down the- face, hind foot and nearside white, hair rubbed off shoulder^,. bang tail, and in low condition. Information to be given to Inspector Huraher, Geuoty Police Station, Atherstone, Warwickshire.— Bownlruet March 8. Stolen from Soham, Cambridgeshire, during the night of the 3rd instant, a bay mare Pony, with star on forehead and long black tail cut square, about 13 hands high, and 4 years old. By 2 deserters from the above Regiment, one, 20 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, fresh complexion, red hair, and grey eyes, a labourer, and a native ot Bangor, Flntshire. The other, 20 years of age, 5 feet 8£ inches huh, fresh complexion, hair brown hazel eyes, by trade a tailor, and belongs to Bila, Merionethshire. They left Canterbury for Victoria Station, London, by the 4' 53 tidal train, on the morning following the robbery, and were dressed in the stolen clothes. Information to be given to Superinten- Supposed to have been stolen from Godalming, Surrey, a chesnut Mare, about 15 hands high, white mark down face, three white fetlocks, long mane and tail, the front teeth are worn fiom biting tile manger, is rather lame, and has been fired in both fore fetlocks. A reward of £ 3 will be given ( if Btolen) on its recovery and conviction of the oflender or offenders. Supposed to have been stolen from Little Frenstoue Farm, South Molton, between the 23rd and 25th ultimo, a wether hog Sheep, marked ' T. W.' near side, and ' B ' off side, never Shorn. £ 5 teward will be paid on conviction of the offender or offender, on application to Mr. James Bucknell, Whitfield, Knowstone, the owner. Information to be given to the said Mr. Bucknell, or to Superintendent Fisher, Borough Police, Southmolton.— Bow- street, March 4. A brown cob Gelding, in low condition, 7 years old, about 14J bands high, star on forehead, and white streak down to the nose, switch tail, has saddle marks, and a knot about the size of a walnut on near fore fetlock joint, the property of Mr. Robert Martin. By two men having the appearance of low horse dealers, one about 26 years of age, pock- marked and wearing a cap with peak ; the other about 22 years of age, dark hair, cut short, and wearing a billycock hat, both had on dark coats and cord trousers. They were seen together with the horses, between Halstead and Braintree the following day, and are supposed to have gone to the lower part of Essex or into Kent, and may be driving one of the horses in a cart. Bass, Esq., and sundry sums from other persons. The name of Abram Bass is entered on the back of the medical certificate. It has since been discovered that he is an impostor.
