Notice.— It is requested tlint all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property; may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending tVic same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may bo made and addressed to MB. C. *,* Whenever it is desired that any person should bo appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the OfTence charged, and an nttestod copy thereof, together with tho Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all betters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from the regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Mall, London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. INFORMATIONS. make ; dressed in a blue pilot jacket, dark cloth vest, dark grey cloth trousers, cloth cap, and lace- up shoes ; he is a bricklayer, and is married. Information to be given to Super- intendent Henderson, Bishop Auckland, Durham.— Bow- street, February 8. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. A coroner's inquest was held, on the 16th instant, on the body of Thomas Duce, and a verdict of ' Man- slaughter' returned against JAMES DUCE, who has absconded : he is from 35 to 40 years of age. 5 feet 8 inches high, fresh complexion, dimple on chin, dark hair, large daTk whiskers ( probably Bhaved off), chin rather prominent, stout made, thick red neck, and good looking ; dressed in a brown and black plaid coat, straight back, full of small holes, ; cord breeches, leather leggings, and round stiff hat with narrow i brim and very greasy ; by trade a butcher, but seldom follows that occupation, and a native of Wheathill, Salop. He will j most likely be found in some low public or beer house, and in ' company with poachers ; he is well known in Ludlow, Ten- bury, Wolverhampton, and Pontrilas, near Penybont; he was two years in service at Pontrilas. Information to be given to Superintendent McWilliam, Bridgnorth, or to Sergeant Collis, Police Station, Cleobury Mortimer, Salop, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, February 18. Description of two men who absconded from Stockton- on- Tees on the 4th instant, after causing the death of James Howard, and against whom a verdict of ' Manslaughter' was returned at an inquest held on the 7th instant: PATRICK KAPLASS, from 30 to 35 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, dark brown hair, no whiskers; dressed, when working, in a white cotton jacket and trousers, and blue cloth cap, which he wears on the side of his head, and at other times a black c'oth suit and cap. CORNELIUS CONNELL, £ 0 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, dark complexion, thin dark hair and whiskers, propor- tionate figure ; dressed, when working, in an old dirty fustian suit, small check shirt, and cloth cap. They are both Irishmen, and labourers at ironworks. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Booth, Stockton- on- Tees, Durham, who holds a warrant for their apprehension.— Bow- street, February II. I About roon on. the 5th instant, the body of Hugh McKeon was found brutally murdeied on the quay of the Great Float, in the township of Poulton, Cheshire, and it is supposed a considerable sum of Money was stolen from his person. £ 20 reward will be paid to any person giving such information as will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Superintendent Ham- mond, County Police, Abbey- street, Birkenhead.— Bow- street, February 8. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the person of a seaman on the highway, leading from Queenboro to West Minster, Sheppy, Kent, on I the night of the 13th instant, a silver verge Watch, No. 848, capped and jewelled,' John Longfoot' engraved' » n the cap and inside the case ; a silver Albert with brass Key attached ; a plum- coloured Overcoat, velvet collar, two Bide pockets, one outside breast pocket, lined with black alpaca, quite new ; and a Portemonnaie with brass clasp,' J. L.' on the fastening, contain- ing £ b 10s. in Gold. By two men, one about 33 yearB of age, 5 feet 10 or 11 incheB high, whiskers and moustache ; dressed in a monkey jacket, and cap with peak. The other about 5 feet 7 inches high ; dressed in an overcoat and large billy- cock or fenian hat. The tallest one produced a bottle from his pocket, which he said contained rum, from which the seaman drank, and shortly afterwards became insensible. Information to be given to Superintendent Green, Kent Constabulary, Sittingbourne, or to Sergeant Noakes, County Police Station, Sheerness, Kent.— Bow- street, February 18. Stolen on the 8th ultimo, from the person of a gentleman at Manchester, a gold J plate centre seconds Watch, engraved dome, flit glass, gold dial, expansion balance, jewelled in 10 holes and sliding stop work, No. 19909. £ 10 reward will be given for such information as will lead 10 the apprehension of the offender and recovery of the property on application to Chief Constable Palin, Town Hall, Manchester.— Bow- street, February 18. About 9 o'clock on the night of the 10th instant, William Ward, of Midway, near Swadlincote, was waylaid near Repton, and robbed of 7s. 4d. in Silver. By three men, one of whom struck hiui on the head with a stick, and afterwards plunged a spike ( fixed on the end of the stick,) into his side : one of the men was rather tall and stout, with dark whiskers, dressed in velveteen coat and a cap without peak, with earlaps, and tied under the chin ; the others were not so tall, and were dressed in similar coats. They were accompanied by a large black dog with long hair, and ran off in the direction of Ticknall. Information to be given to Superintendent Burton, Constabu- lary Office, Stapenhill, near Burton- on- Trent.— Bow- street, February 13. FORGERY. Description of a person who passed a forged Cheque at Mr, Garfits Bank, at Spalding, on the 29th ultimo, for £ 86 10s., purporting to be drawn by John Rinder, of Skendleby, near Spilsby, and made payable to Thomas Robinson, of Anderby, near Alford, Lincolnshire. The man who presented the forg. d cheque signed his name THOMAS ROBINSON, 28 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, light brown hair which is cut very short behind, and brushed back on the top of his head in front, little or no whiskers, florid complexion, with rather prominent nose ; bad the appearance of a farmer ; dressed in dark clolhes. Absconded on the 13th instant, from Rickinghall, charged with housebreaking: HENRY FORDHAM, alias BOTES- DALE JOE, 43 years of age, 6 feet 4 or 6 inches high, dark hair and complexion ; dressed in dark clothes and black billy- cock hat; he frequents fairs and low public houses with a nut basket. Information to be given to Police Constable Cook, Botesdale, Suffolk, who holds a warrant for his apprehension. — Bow- street, Feb/ uary 18. During the night of the 16th or morning of the 16th instant, the Training College, Bishop Stortford, was entered by the laundry window and the following property stolen : a walnut wood Desk lined with blue silk velvet, lock with three catches, inlaid with pearl in the centre, with initials ' E. C.,' 16J inches by 11 j in size, secret drawer with card inside, ' Mr. G. Gurton, Clarendon Hotel;' an Envelope Box, brown wood, ornamented with brass, lined inside with magenta watered silk, 9 inches by 4£ in size ; a pair of lady's kid Boots, spring sides, 4J size ; a black silk Dress, body separated from skirt, full body, top of sleeves trimmed with black bead trimming, skirt and body lined with slate colour lining ; two night Dresses, one marked ' A. A.,' the other ' M. A.'; a flannel Chemise marked ' A.' ; a Chemise marked ' A.' ; a Bodice marked ' A.'; a new flannel Petticoat; and about Ten Shillings in money, chiefly coppers. Information to be given to Inspector Ryder, Herts Constabulary, Bishop Stortford.— Bow- street, FJ>. 18. During the night of the 8th instant, the Station Office of the Great Western Railway, at Albrighton, was feloniously entered aRd £ 5 8s. 5 Jd. in Money and 3s. 3d. in Stamps, stolen therefrom. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Richardson, Wellington, or to Sergeant Bullock, Shiffnal, Salop.— Bow- street. February 15. On the night of the 8th instant, a tailor's shop at Marple, Cheshire, was broken and entered through the back window, and the following property stolen therefrom : three pairs of new Trousers, one pair black cloth, another black, with brown stripe, the other black and red plaid ; three Waistcoats, one black cloth, another black and red plaid, the other of a light colour; a black cloth Jacket-, with two pockets outside ; a plated gold Guard ; and about 30s in Silver. Also stolen, from another shop in the same place, on the same night, about 30s. in Silver and Copper, and about £ 1 ot Tea, made up in | white papers with the letter ' B.' on them. A man of the following description is suspected : about 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, fresh complexion, no whiskers, slightly bald ; dressed in a black overcoat, black cloth trousers, check shirt, white muffler with red edge and blue and while striped cotton handkerchief on his neck, and a pair of strong lace- up j boots with eyelet- holes and heavily nailed ; he is supposed to be a native of Manchester. About a fortnight before this burglary, this man was lodging in New Mills, Derbyshire and had with him a woman dressed in black, aud he there pledged a quantity of property ; he also pledged property in Hyde Cheshire, the tickets of which he left behind at the place he had been lodging at for three nights at Marple, and the property named in the pawn tickets is suspected to have been stolen from Hyde and other places. Information to be given to Superintendent Steen. County Police, Stockport, Cheshire. — Bow- strut, February 15. Between midnight and 7 a. m. on the 13th instant, Oakle Farm, in the parish of Churcham, the residence of Mr. Wm. Barnes, was broken into, and two large loaves of Bread, 3 lbs. of Pork, and about 5 lbs. of Cheese, stolen therefrom. Supposed by a tramping labourer ; there were footmarks near the window of a middle- sized man's boots, whieh had a double row of nails round the sides, and three rows up the centre. Information to be given to Superintendent Griffin, Gloucester.— Bow- street, February 15. Between 1 and 3' 30 p. m, the 5th instant, the dwelling* house No. 39, Harwood- street, oiackburn, was entered by false keys, and the following property stolen therefrom: seven Sovereigns, a half ditto, 10s. in Silver, and a knitted pouch Purse, with glass beafU, and without clasp'; the property of Mr. Nathaniel Ray. Suspicion is attached to a man who resided next door to where the robbery was committed, and absconded immediately after : he is 20 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, slender make, thin face, pale complexion, dark hair, no whiskers, is a weaver or an engineman, and a native of Blackburn ; dresBed in blaek shooting coat, black vest, cotton cord trousers black felt billycock hat, half Wellington boots, and white muffler ; is at present in a state of ill health. Information to be given to Chief Constable Potts, Town Hall, Blackburn, Lancashiie.— Bow- street, February 13. Between 2 and 7 p. m. on the 3rd instant, the dwelling- house of Henry Potter, at the parish of Hailsham, Sussex, was broken into, and the following articles stolen therefrom : three 4d. Pieces, seven Id. Pieces of the reign of George III, a pint bottle of Port Wine, several small Cakes, a small Pocket- book, containing a Sovereign, two Shillings, a gold keeper Ring, and two Letters. Information to be given at the Chief Con- stable's Office, Lg wes, or to Superintendent Waghorn, Haihham, Sussex.— Bow- street, February 13. The dwelling- house of the Rev. W. H. Ibotson, at Edwin- stone, Notts, was burglariously entered during the night of the 8th instant, and the following property stolen therefrom : a mustard Pot, two salt Spoons, and a tea Spoon, all silver- plated; a pair of men's lace- up Boots, with brass eyelets ; two Half- crowns ; 58. in silver and copper Moneys ; and a pork Pie. Supposed by a tramp. Information to be given to Superinten- dent Wimant, County Police Station, Worksop, Notts.— Bow- street, February 13. Between 9 p. m. on the 9tb, and 6 a. m. on the 10th inst 4 the stable of Mr. John Wilkinson, of Plealey, farmer, was broken into, and the following articles stolen : 1 brown Overcoat, buttons up the right side, and 1 dark drab smock Frock, nearly new. Supposed by a tramp, about 45 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, saudy liair and whiskers ; when last seen he was wearing the overcoat, clog boots with tips on heels. He gave his name JOHN THOMAS, at Bishop's Castle Union, on the 10th instant, and he is supposed to DO tramping in Wales. Information to be given to Superinten- dent Ivens, County Police Office, Shrewsbury, or to Police Constable SommervilJe, Longden, Salop.— Bow- street, Feb. 13. During the night of the 9th instant, the dwelling- house of Thomas Jones, of the Burnt House, in the parish of Selattyn, near Oswestry, Salop, was burglariously broken into and about £ 30 in Gold stolen therefrom : supposed by a man, wearing clogs about 10J inches in length. Information to be given to Super- intendent Gough, Oswestry, Salop.— Bow- street, February 11. Between the hours of 1 and 4 p. m., on the 8th isatant, the dwelling- house of Mr. James Whittaker, South Lodge, Calverley- with- Farsley. agent, was broken and entered, and the following property stolen : A single- breasted black cloth frock Coat, pockets outside of skirts, one outside of left breast, covejed buttons, small tear under left cuff, nearly new. A black cloth Coat, similar to the above, bnt hound round the edges with black braid, rabbit's- down inside the lining, which was torn from the coat and used ag a pocket. A black cloth single breasted Vest, button? up to the chin, without collar. A blue and brown plaid fancy silk velvet single- breasted Vest, rolling collar. A pair of light grey mixture Trousers, fly fronts, raised seams, small hole burnt inside one leg, right pocket bottom worn tout. A single- breasted Vest, same material as last- named trousers, top button but one off. A pair of new black cloth Trousers, fly frontB,' lined throughout. A pair of laced- up Boots, brass eyelet holes, patent facings, toe- capped, pegged, cut mark on outside of the right one near the sole, A black scarf Shawl, with puce and black flower, small tear on one side near the corner. A lady's black cloth Jacket, trimmed with black beads on cuffs and round neck, and black bead buttons down , front, tits tight to waist, nearly new. A. white linen Sheet, seamed down the middle. In his pockets were found a razor, a piece of string, and a small piece of pencil. On the 1st instant, a man named THOMAS CHANDLER, alias JACKSON, was apprehended in Wolverhampton on suspicion of stealing a quantity of Boots, and in his possession was found an invoice from the firm of Messrs. J. and H. Holme of Deansgate, Manchester, for a large quantitv of' boots. A* telegram was sent to that firm, and they sent their traveller Mr. Septimus Jackson, to inqnire into the matter, and he represented himself before the magistrates to be Mr. H. Holme, one of the partners, and from his evidence procured the release of Thomas Chandler ; it was subsequently ascertained that SEPTIMUS JACKSON ( who is now in custody on a charge of perjury), is a brother of Thomas Chandler, alias Jackson, ami that he had no authority to us © his master's name.
