MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING The coroner for the borough of B ighton held an inqnest on the 9th instant, on the body of a newly- horn mule child, and the jury returned a verdict of ' Wilful Murder' against some person or persons unknown. This child was concealed in a paper box. wrapped up in a pii ce of striped cotton, either an old apron or piece of a dress, enclosed in brown paper, and directed to a Mrs. Elliott, 129. Albemarle- street, Brighton, and was left at the ' King of Denmark,' No. 18. OM Bailey, city of London, where I0d was paid, and then forwarded by the London, Brighton, » n 1 S'eu'h Coast Railway Com- pany's servants to Brighton on the 2nd instant; there being no Albemarle- street in Brighton, after a few days the box was opened, when it was di- covrred to contain the body of a child. It is supposed to have beeu left at the ' King of Den- mark ' by some cairier. Information to be given to ttie Chief Constable, Town Hall, Brighton.— Brno- street, January 11. ARSON AND WILFUL BURNING- Description of a man who went to the door of E. May, farmer, at High Holston and asked lor some lucifer matches, which were given, shortly after he left the turn and cart lodges were discovered to be on fire and were entirely destroyed : he is suspected uf having set fire to them : he is ahout 40 years of age, 6 feet 7 or 8 inches high ; dressed in a long twill frock, pockets at sides, and black billycock hat. Information to be given at the Police Station, Chatham.— bow- street, January 7. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the person of Edward Roberts, horse keeper, of Ronwyd- gate, between 9 p. m. on the 2nd, and 1 a in. on the 3rd instant, while he was asleep in a public- house in the parish of Llanfachraeth, in the county of Merioneth, a pair case silver ver* ® Watch, No. 3189. maker R. Williams, Dolgelly, with steel Chain and common Guard attached : by two men, one of whom is apprehended, and some of the property found upon hnu, the other has absconded with the watch, a tramping railway labourer, about 24 years of age, 6 feet 4 inches high, pale complexion, brown hair, and hazel eyes; dressed in an old navvy slop ( soiled with red dirt) old single- breasted plaid waistcoat old cord trousers, lace- up navvy boots, and cloth, cap. He was traced going through Corwen, towards Llangollen, on the 3id instant. Information to be given to Inspector Hughes. Bala, North Wales.— Bow- street, Jan. 7. Stolen from the person on the night of the 1st instant, at Brighton, a silver Watch, with figured silver face, ' Peter Barkshire, Patcham,' on the works. Stolen from the person of a gentleman at the Railway Station, Bolton, ahi. ui 6 45 p. m. on the 1st instant, a gold lever Watch, No. 13794, maker John Greenhalgh, Manchester. Supposed by a man. who started in a train immediately after- 1 wards tor Manchester, 24 or 25 years of age, 6 feet 8 inches high, pale complexion sharp features, no beard or whiskers; dressed in a slate coloured short chesterfield Coat, light trousers, soft billycock hat, and brown rug over shoulders. Informa- tion to be given to Chief Constable Harris, Bolton, Lancashire. — Bow- streei. January 4. Supposed stolen from the person on the night of the 1st instant, a wash- leather Bag, containing about ,£ 115 in Gold. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Further information respecting the burglary at the Rectory House, Sherwick, Cornwall, advertised in the Police Gazette ol the 28th ultimo : a black cloth Overcoat, with black alpaca lining, and pockets outside, aho a black Scarf, with fine white stripes, scarcely visible. French manufacture, were stolen at the same time ; all the brass articles stolen have lieen recovered. £/> reward will be given for the apprehension of SELBY, and a further reward of £ 15 on conviction and recovery of the pro- perty or in proportion to the amount recovered. Information to be given to Superintendent Stephens, St. Germans, Cornwall. — Bow- street, January 14. Between 3 and 4 p. m. on the 11th instant, the cottage of William Stacey, at Froxfield, was broken into, and the follow- ing property stolen : a single- breasted black cloth Coat, with a Ecket on each side and one inside the left breast; a pair of lack cloth Trousers, worn at the knees and round the bottom of the legs; a single breasted black cloth Vest ; two calico Shir s ; a black r ilk Neckerchief; and a black billycock Hat, with a wide black band. An artilleryman who was seen in the neighbourhood, and whose uniform was found in the house, is suspected : he is 20, j years of age, 6 feet 5 inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair, grey eyes, and is supposed to be wearing the stolen property. Information to be given to Superiotendent Longland, Hants Constabulary, Petersfield. — Bow street, Januaiy 14. Some time during the night of the 11th instant, the Trinity School Rooms, in the parish of St. Clement's, Ipswich, were broken and entered and an 8 day round face spring Dial, an oilcloth table Cover, and about Is. in copper Money, stolen therefrom, the property of the Trustees of the said school, the dial has Schulen, Ipswich, on the face, and | ihe tablecover is suppo- ed to be in size about 6 feet 6 by 3 feet 6 inches. On the 7th instant, ahout 5 p. m., the dwelling- house of Mr. Alfred Collings, of Thornbury, clock and watchmaker, was broken into by a man now in custody, and remanded until the I6' h instant: he gives his name GEO. EDWARDS, of Summer- hill, London, sailor, 37 years of age, 5 feet inches high, thin made, blue eyes, rather sandy hair, bald on top of head, sallow complexion, lost a tooth in front of upper jaw, and part of forefinger of right hand, ' T. N' on left arm, cru- cifix on right ; dressed in a black cloth ribbed monkey jacket, velvet collar, two pockets outside, black cloth vest, pilot cloth trousers, plaid scarf, black cloth cap with peak, and cossack shoes. He states he was discharged from the ' V. Mary,' a merchant ship at London, in October last. He is supposed to have committed offences elsewhere. Superintendent Ellison, Chipping Sodbury, or to Sergeant Arthur, Police Station, Thornbury, Gloucestershire — Bow- street, January 11. Between the hours of 10 p. m. 5th, and 8 a m. on the 6th instant, the draper's shop belonging to Mr. Josiah Hadley, of Greengate- street, Stafford, was broken and entered, and stolen tlieretrom : a blue pilot Overcoat, velvet collar, blue lining, bound with broad worsted braid ; 2 black cloth Jackets; a dark mixture cloth Jacket, Prince of Wales pattern ; a pair of black doeskin Trousers, whole fall; and a single- breasted grey cloth Vest.. Information to be given to Superintendent Crisp, Police Office, Stafford.— Bow- street, January 9. During the night of the 7th instant, the house of Mr. W. Bridges, Russell- street, Cambridge, was burglariously entered, and ihe following property stolen : a black cloth paletot Coat, fly front, pockets behind and one in left breast; a large black cloth Alma Coat, fly front, pockets on hips, whole back ; a lar^ e single- breasted black frock Coat, has been turned, velvet collar, pockets behind and one in left breast, sleeves have been robberies, has been apprehended and committed for trial at the next assizes for the county of Monmouth, on both charges. Information to be given at the Chief Constable's Office, Usk ; to Superintendent Mcintosh, Monmouthshire Constabulary, Ponty pool ; or to Inspector Sheppard, County Constabulary, Newport, Monmouthshire, who holds a warrant for his appre- hension.— Bom- street January 7. Between 2 and 6 am. on the 1st instant the shop of Mr. Marsh, Eye, was broken into, and two polished Hammers with horse picks and jointed ; a polishing Burnisher, 3£ inches square; three small metal Whistles ; and ten ivory and bone whistles, some white and the others black and brown with dogs' and foxes' heads on them, stolen therefrom. Stolen from a lodging- house at Bridgnorth, on the 6th instant, a pair of lace- up Boots with brass eyelet holes. By a tramp, who lodged in the house for the last month, and worked for a black* mii h as a striker, but, stated that he had been travelling with a circus, arid also that he was a deserter and a native ot Somersetshire, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 iiich- s high, slender make, thin lace, dark complexion, very bad leg ( supposed to be the right); dressed in dark jimcrow hat, durk monkey jacket, white slop under, dark trousers with patch on seat and front lighter colour, red neckerchief, striped shirf, and the stolen boors. Stated he should go to Dudley, and, if be could not get work should go into the workhouse. Stops at low lodging- houses, and is supposed to have stopped in a lodging- house at Wolverhampton on the nights of thn 5th and 6th instant. Stolen from a dwelling- house at Cropwell Butler, Notts, on the 4th ins ant, a blue mixture Coat, with two pockets out- side, one large pocket inside, and one small one on the left; also a pair ot men's pepper- and- salt coloured Trousers, both nearly new : by a man who represented that he was sent from the firm of Danks and Nixon, Nottingham, to put up some palisading for a Mr. Marriott, ot Cropwell, and thereby obtained lodgings on the 3rd instant, about 40 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, broad set, dark hair, small dark whiskers, and rather pale complexion ; dressed in dark clothes, blucher hoots, and flat topped cap with peak ; of respectable appear- ance, and good addre- s. It is supposed he has committed similar offences elsewhere.
