C. mm' Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor UtDSt be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from the regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, miy be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Ma ) 1. London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. Robert Kingford, 17, Great Queen- street, London, W. C., was st- t on fire ; a hullseye lantern, a quantity of lucifer matches, a silk hat, ot Loudon make, a carpet bag, labelled, a quantity of cunpowder, and other conbustibles were discovered on the premises. A man calling himself WILLIAM CAINS, who is supposed to he the incendiary, bus been apprehended, and whose name has since been ascertained to be LIBERTY CAINS, Kingsford, a sorter in the General Post Office, L ndon, about 30 years of age, 5 feet o J inches high, fair complexion, brown hair, grey eyes, small moustache, with false teeth in upper j iiv ; dressed in dark cloth jicket and waistcoat, dark trousers, of mixed material, brown witney overcoat, with silk velvet collar, and a brown cloth travelling hat. He is remanded until the 3rd proximo. Information to be given to Superintendent Vanstone, Bideford, North Devon.— Bow- tlreet, December 30. On the night of the 21st instant, some person or persons wilfully set fire to a rick of Wheat standing in the rick yard at Boveney Court Farm, whereby two licks, the property of Mr. Edward Evans, were consumed. Ten Guineas reward will be paid by E. P. Williams, Esq, treasurer to the Salt Hill Association to any person who will give such information as will lead lo the apprehension and conv'clion of the offender or offenders. SUEDES AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING THOMAS QUIGLEY, a lumper und dock labourer, is • charged by the verdict of a jury, summoned by the coroner lor Liverpool, with the wil/ ul murder of his wife, Dinah Quigley, on the 18th instant, in Vernon- street : he is about 40 years of age. 5 ftct 7$ inches high, strong- well knit frame, dark complexion, short dark brown hair, rather inclined to curl, dark brown whiskers ( slightly intermixed with grey) rouud the face and ciiin, but may possibly be shaved off, small feet and hands ; dressed in loose ins le blue pilot cloth overcoat, pilot cloth v st with dark moleskin sleeves and Idmk buttons, white moleskin trousers, half Wellington boots, bl^ ck neckcloth, and brownish- coloured billycock hat. Her Majesty's Secretary of State for the Home Department has authorised tho pay went of a reward of £ 50 to any person giving such in'oi mation as will lead to the Hpprebension of tile said Thos. Quigley. Information to be given to the Head Constable, or to the Chief of the Detective Department, Dale- street, Liver- pool.— Bom- street, December 30. About 0- 30 p. m. on the 11th instant, five men were poaching on game preserves at Pilley, near Barnsley, belonging to the Right Honorable Lord Wharncliffe, when his Lordship's head gamekeeper, George Thirkill, was shot de* d. A reward of j£ 60 will be paid by the Government ( in addition to the £ 60 already offered), to any person or persons giving such informa- tion ( private or otherwise) as will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offenders, and in proportion of that amount for any one of them ; and the Secretary of State will advise the grant of Her Majesty's gracious pardon to any accomplice, uot being the actual peison who fired the gun, who shall give such evidence as shall lead to the 6ame result. Description of PATRICK QUINN, a stone n. ason, who was on the 13th iDStanr. charged in a coroner's inquisition with the niMnslaughter of William Costello : he is 25 years of age. 5 feet 8 inches high, fresh complexion, dark brown hair, slight moustache ; dressed in a blue cloth monkey jicket, drab cloth vest, woollen cord trousers, Scotch, cap, with ribbon behind, and lace- up Bhoes. Description of two men charged with the murder and outrage at Clerkenwell, on 13th instant : 1st, calling himself GEORGE SMITH, 35 to 40 years of age, 5 feet 8 to 10 inches high, fair complexion, brown hair, brownish red moustache, beard and whiskeis, an Iiishman, speaks with un American accent; supposed dressed in a brown overcoat; 2nd, JAMES FARRALL. or FALLON, 30 years of age, 6 feet 0 or 7 inches high, thin figure, very dark complexion, dark beatd and m « < us » » che, a tailor by trade : is known by the name of FELIX. Martin, gamekeeper to Lord Hilton, at Merstham, was shot in the legs ( badly) whilst pursuing two poachers : the one that fired the Bhot dropped his cap, which is an old cricketing one, has been Of various colours, u star on top, soma blue marks are visibla, and has a spot of grease on one side, recently been washed ; one wan dressed in light clothes, the other dark. Betwe- u 10 a. m. snd 12 p. m. on the 25th inst, the cottage of George Trinder, in the pariah of Radley, Berks, was broken into and the following property stolen : a black rough clodi Overcoat, pockels at the hips, one breast pocket, plaid lining; a cord Jacket and Waistcoat; a pair of watertight lace- up Boots, nearly new, nailed ; two Scarfs, on* silk, the oiher woollen ; a yellow, white, and red ailk Pocket Handkerchief; a man's leather Waist Belt, a pair of lamhswool Gloves, a plain gold Ring, a Penknile with pearl haudle, four Postage Stamps, a Sixpence with hole in it, a 4d piece, a 3d. do, about 2J lbs of Cheese, 1J lb, of cooked Bacon, and two half- loaves of Bread. Stolen on the morning of tbe 27th ultimo, from a stable, at Boston East, alight coloured chesnut Horse, half bred, slrong and bony, aged, about 10 hands hiifh, a scar on the near Bide of tbe neck, a little hair cha'ed off the far si'le hip bone, tai trimmed and cut square; the propeity of Thomas Monks, supposed by a man, dressed in darn clothes, with a dark grey overcoat, and billycock hat. Stolen from a field at Datchet, Bucks, during the night of the 20th instant, 6 small South Down wether Sheep, in very poor condition, supposed taken away in a cart. Description of SYDNEY CHARA. a native of Ashwick, Somerset, charged with stealing twelve Fowls, the property of Isaac James: he is 27 years of age, 6 feet 5 or G inches high, dark curly hair, whiskers meet under the chin, and stout built; ilressedina dark brown mixture coat, dark trousers, and new heavy hjce- up boots ; brand* d with letter D, and has been in the army. Information to be given to Superintendent Deggan, Frome, or to Sergeant Whitting, Kilmersdon, Bath, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bom- street, Jan 1. Further information respecting the Fowls stolen on the 22nd nit., at Mr. Davies's. of Whitmore : JOSEPH ABBOTT, of Madeley, brickmaker, has absconded charged with being concerned in the robbery, he was last seen at the brick- yard, Hodnet: he is about 5 teet 7 or 8 inches high, thin made, black hair and whiskers; dressed in blue slop, cord trousers, and lace up shoes. A. two servants'print Dresses; alinsey Chemise; two linBey Pillowcases ; a Nightdress, 1 George;' a violet French merino Dress, with bars of black velvet across, and black bugle trimming ; a black Shawl; and a violet- coloured Bonnet. A warrant has been i- sued against AMELIA BAKER, an inmate of the Hom^ who absconded with the property : she is about 24 years of age, but looks older, middle height, well made, fair complexion, brown hair, broad face, large blue eys, was formerly a prostitute, known in the neigh- bourhood of Kensington and Covent Girden, London ; supposed to be wearing the stolen dress, bonnet, and shawl. Description of WILLIAM GOTT, tailor, who absconded from llolbtach on the 23rd ultimo, charged with stealing from hia lodgings an engine- turned hunting lever Watch, capped and jewelled, No. the property of Geo. Shepherd : he is 19 years of age, S feet 2 or 3 inches high, pale complexion, light flaxen hair cut short, and dressed in black cloth sac coat with velvet collar, black vest, double stitched at edge, shepherd plaid trousers, large pattern, usually walks with his bands in his pocket, light boots with elastic ' sides, military cap with French peak, strap in front, has two buttons with an anchor, and buckle in the centre; is fond of soldier's company, and likely to be in Charles- street, Westminster, among recruiting parties. Information to be given to Superintendent Lraper, Lincolnshire Constabulary, Spalding, or to Inspector Butcher, Holbeaoh, who holds a warrant for his appreheusion.— Boic- street, January 1. Description of MICHAEL LANGAN, who is charged with stealing at Wellington, Salop, on the 21st instant, a black monkey Jacket, nearly new ; a dirty white Slop, open front with outside pockets; an old pair of men's elastic side Boots ; a pair of white militia Socks, marked ' S. M. No. 20 '; and an old red Handkerchief, with white spots, He is an Irishman, 25 to 30 years of age, 6 feet 8 or 9 n ches high, light hair, no whiskers, rather stout, stooping awk ward gait; sometimes he works at ironworks, sometimes as a farmer's labourer. Stolen from a dwelling- house in the borough of Staly- bridge, Cheshire: about 3 a. m. on the 27th instant, 1 dark wifney Overcoat, with velvet collar; 1 grey striped Jacket; 1 pair of black cloth Trousers; 1 peach coloured silk Scarf; 1 woollen Handkerchief; and 1 billycock Hat. By a private soldier of the 70th Regiment, about 20 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, sallow complexion, brown hair, and hazel eyes ; dressed in the stolen clothes, having left his soldier's clothes behind him; he is a coal miner and a native of Oldbury, Worcestershire. Description of William Butler, and his three sons, residents at Tiogley, charged with stealing in the dwelling house of John Joseph Marriott, a bricklayer, of Tingley, iu the town- ship of West Ardsley, between the hours of 9 p. m. 25th, and 9 a. m. 26th, as lodgers: £ 7 in Gold, 5d. in Coppers, and a Key, belonging to the box where the money was kept. WILLIAM BUTLER, a miner, 40 years of age, 6 feet 8 inches high, sallow complexion, brown eyes, black hair, three blue marks on forehead, largest on right aide ; dressed in black cloth suit, and black billycock hat. JOHN BUTLER, a miner, 18 year? of age, fresh com plexion, dark eyes, black hair; dressed in black cloth suit, and black cloth cap. GEORGE BUTLER, a miner, 16 years of age, fresh com- plexion, dark eyes, black hair ; dressed in a black cloth suit, and black cloth cap. BUTLER, a miner, 14 years of age, fresh complexion, dark eyes, black hair ; dressed in a cloth suit, and black cloth cap.
