Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with tfie Ad' ' jrtisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As ne charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all betters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from the regular intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Mall, London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. INFO R MATIO NS MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. On the 14ih instant, the dead body of a newly- born female Infant, wrapped in a coarse apron, was found upon the West Hill, in the parish of St. Mary- in the- Castle, in the borough of Hastings ; and on the 16th instant a coroner's inquest was held upon the body of the said infant, when the jury returned a verdict of ' Wilful Murder ' against some person or persons unknown. A reward of £ 50 will be paid by the Government to any person who will give such information and evidence as will lead to the discovery and conviction of the offender or offenders ; and the Right Hon. Sir George Grey will advise the grant of Her Majesty's gracious pardon to any accomplice, not being the actual murderer, who will give such evidence as will lead to the same result. FORGERY Absconded since the 9th instant, charged with forging and uttering a Bill of Exchange for £ 125, with intent to defraud the Agra and Masterman's Bank, Nicholas- lane, Lombard street, EDWARD LAWRENCE LEVY, late of No. 2, Bow- street, Covent- garden, and No. 44, Burton- crescent, solicitor, 38 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, slender build, thin lace, very pale complexion, light moustache and whiskers inclined to sandy, stiff shuffling walk, and carries his right shoulder higher than the left. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON Supposed to have been stolen from the person of a man while in the state of drunkenness at Barmouth, on the night of the 16th instant, a gold Geneva open face Watch, middle size, N<(- 9789, enamelled dial, point of long hand broken off. Stolen from the person of a gentleman, at 11 p. m. on the 26th instan t, in Hawthorn- lane, Wilmslow, in the county of Chester, £ 4 in Gold and about 12s. in Silver, in a silk Purse, worked with beads of various colours. By four men : one tall, with a large beard, dressed in a round jacket and broad- brimmed hat, and can be identified ; the other three were short, and dressed in dark clothes. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Williamson, Macclesfield, or to Sergeant Garner, Police Station, Wilmslow, Cheshire.— Bow- street, April 30. Stolen on the 21st instant, from the person of a gentleman in Edinburgh, a patent lever gold Watch, engine- tuined cases, gold dial, steel hands, No. 2695, maker Bryson, Edinburgh, had attached a gold Albert Chain, double- link pattern, broken from the bar, with appendages consisting of a red stone in the shape of a heart, a five- franc Piece, and the figure of a Dog. Stolen from the person on Stratford Race Course, on the 22rd instant, a silver lever Watch, capped, No. 5358. Stolen from the person of a female, on the evening of the 20th instant, at Henley- in Arden, a Portemonnaie, with steel clasps, on one side three'poc'. cets, one worn at the bottom, one of • which contained about £ 20 in Sovereigns and Half- sovereigns, on the other side a pocket containing an American gold Dollar, a Lottery Ticket for a Shakesperian Table, a Receipt from the bank for £ 20, and some Receipt and Postage Stamps. Infor- mation to be given to Inspector Harris, Henley- in- Arden, Warwickshire.— Baw- ttrect, April 23. Stolen from the person of James Stubbs, on the 18th instant, at Stifford's Bridge, in the parish of Cradley, a large calico bag Purse, with two compartments in it, and contained 4 Sovereigns and 12s. Cd. in Silver. Supposed by a man about SO years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, stout make, fresh complexioD, light eyes, light brown hair, and sandy whiskers; dressed in a seal skin overcoat, dark blue Scotch tweed trousers, ditto waistcoat, buttons up to the throat and has no collar, low crowned napless hat, light boots, and has the appearance of an ostler. Information to be given to Superinten- dent Harewood, Bromyard, or to Sergeant Traylor, Cradley, near Malvern, Worcestershire.— Boa- street, April 23. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. ALFRED NEWTON, advertised in tbe Police Gazette of the 1st January last as having escaped from Montgomery Gaol, where he was awaiting his trial for burglary, is still at large. There is BO doubt but that he is the same man who has been lately advertised in the Police Gazettes as having committed burglaries in the counties of Northumberland, Edinburgh, Lancaster, 8cc. As previously stated, he has lost the end of the first finger of his left hand, and has the appear- ance of a sailor, Information to be given to J. Hodgson, Esq., Chief Constable of Montgomeryshire, or to the Governor of the Gaol, either of whom will pay a reward of £ 6 on his appre- hension.— Bow- street, April 30. Between 11 p. m. on the 25th and 4 a. m. on the 26th instant the dwelling- house of Mr. S. Bebbington, farmer, of Edleston, Cheshire, was burglariously entered by the pantry window, and the following property stolen : 2 grey calico Shirts, boy's size, one mended on shoulder, and one sleeve half pieced, the other has new wrist- bands, both plain fronts. 2 white calico Shirts, men's size, plaited fronts, one has a turn- down collar, the other standing collar, the latter has sleeves half- pieced, new wristbands, and small patch on shoulder. 1 man's loose Collar, ribbed, with coloured edge. 1 grey calico Chemise, nearly new. 1 unbleached linen Jacket. 3 pairs of grey Stockings, one pair men's size, the others boys' size, one pair of the boys were dark grey and home knitted. 1 small Towel. 1 pair of white cotton Stockings, woman's size. 1 woollen check Neck- scarf, drab ground and black check. 1 woollen black and white plaid Shawl. 1 black cloth Coat, man's size, breast pocket and two pockets outside, small moth hole on left arm. 1 old long drab slop Frock, open at the front, pockets outside, dark velvet collar, sleeves much worn. 1 old double- breasted black velvet Vest. 2 old drab monkey Jackets. 1 pair of strong lace up Boots, double soled, much worn at toes, nailed with sparables. 4 lb. of brown Soap. Description of two men suspected : one, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, stiff built, round face, good looking; dressed in brown and dark cloth cap : the other, about 21 years of age, 5 feet 6 inchcs high, rather thin, round features; dressed in a short dirty white slop and billycock hat. In- formation to be given to Superintendent Laxton, County Police, Nantwich, Cheshire.— Bow- street, April 27. The dwelling- house of Mrs. Serocold, at Ilolyport, was broken and entered during the night of the 19th instant, and the following articles stolen therefrom : an engraved silver Candlestick, with square bottom, about 6 in. high ; two gold Seals on an embossed ring, the larger one ia oval, with the inscription' Dites moi oui'; a damask Table Clotb, 2 yds. 19| in. long and 2 yds. 16^ in. wide, marked ' P. S. 3'; a gold mounted cut glass double Smelling Bottle, one of the tops screws off, and the other opens with a hinge, in morocco Case lined with white satin ; and a silver Thimble. Information to be given to Superintendent Iremonger, County Police Office, Maidenhead, Berks.— Bow- street, April 25. At about 5 p. m. on the 16th instant, the Priory Lodge, in the parish of Burnham, was entered by breaking a pane of Glass during the absence of the family, and the following articles stolen therefrom : three old Pocket Handkerchiefs, marked 1 Hanah ' in red cotton ; 1 yard Muslin- de- laine, new, blue ground with white stripe ; a silver plated Brooch, shape a true- lover's knot; a ditto ditto, four horse shoes ; two jet ditto, one with mosaic stone ( two of the brooches are without pins) ; a pair of black velvet Bracelets, with a plated star on the back. Three men of the following description were seen coming from the lodge at that time, and had been begging in the town : one is about 40 years of age, and dressed in a blue guernsey and billycock hat ; another is about 30 years of age, and dressed in a tweed coat, light trousers, and cap; the other is about 20 years of age, rather tall, and dressed in a Blop, corduroy trousers, and cap. They were traced to Slough. Information to be given to Sergeant Moore, Bucks Constabu- lary, Burnham, near Maidenhead.— Bow- street, April 23, Stolen, by means of housebreakng, on the 17th instant, from the cottage of Elizabeth Howells, at Winington, Salop, a pair of light blue woollen Stockings, newly footed; three or four Three- penny Piecis, the tame number of Four- penny Pieces, and 3d. in Copper, with holes and letter on them ; a plain silver Ring made from a shilling; an old crimson silk net Purse; and a small quantity of Bread and Cheese. Sup- posed by a tramp, 40 years of age, 6 feet 8 or 9 inches high, brown hair ( inclined to sandy) and whiskers; dressed in a grey jacket, corduroy trousers, and low- crowned hat. Information to be given to Superintendent Ivins, Shrewsbury, or to Police Constable ( No. 7) R. Dovey, Ivy End, Shrewsbury,- Bow- street, April 23. Early on the morning of the 18th instant, the dwelling- house of the Rev. Robert Gibson, of Bolton- le- Saids, was broken and entered by means of breaking two squares of glass and opening the fastenings of the dining room window, and stealing therefrom the following property: a £ 6 Bank of England Note, a £ 6 Note of the Lancaster Bank, £ 34 in Gold, and about £ 4 12s. in Silver, a white cornelian Seal mounted in gold with three storks, a small go'd Seal with single stork, a small gold Seal with ' L'Amitie' o. < t ' mall inferior gold Seal with squirrel, a silver clasp Frt : e with mother- o'- Searl handle, an old silver Snuff BOA ... th pebble top, an ndian Rupee, a Penknife with two blades and mother- o'- pearl handle, and a buckhorn handle Knife with two blades, pen blade broken. A man of the following description is sui- pected: about 20 years of age, about 6 feet fi inches high, sallow complexion, dark hair, small moustache which may be shaven, the forefinger ( supposed left) off nearly to the second joint, speaks as if he was a nativd of Lancashire; dressed in a rather shabbb blue cloth coat, brown cloth trousers, far worn; had with him a rug bound with black, blue one side, brown the other. £ 10 reward will be paid to any person giving such information as will lead to the conviction of the offender or offenders and recovery of the property, or in proportion to the amount of the property recovered. Information to be given to Superintendent Clegg, Skerton, near Lancaster.— Bow- itretl, April 23. During the night of the 21st instant, a farm house at Meifod, near Welshpool, was broken into, and the following property stolen : an old brown velvet Jacket, two dark pearl buttons at top of breast; an old dark mixture cloth Jacket, the cuffs torn off; a pair of lace- up Boots, nearly new, large size, the inside of lace holes lined with red leather, the heels neatly nailed with Bquares, no nails in soles; a pair of blucher Boots, lately soled, three brasB lace holes on each side, the heels nailed with square nails, the soles with sprigs; a large ham of Bacon, G lbs of flitch of Bacon, eleven ^ - lbs. of Butter, a Loaf of Bread, and 3 lbs. of Cheese. Supposed by tramps. Infor- mation to be given to the Chief Constable's Office, Welshpool, Montgomeryshire.— Bow- strut, April 23. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Found at Hatch Beauchamp on the 24th instant, supposed to have been stolen, a dark brown mare Colt, 3 years old, 14 J bands high, square tail, no shoes, and in very low condition; also a bay mare Colt, 1 year old, about 13 hands high, long tail, and in very low condition. Information to be given to Superintendent R. Everitt, Somerset Constabulary, Ilminstar. — Bow- street, April 30. Supposed to have been stolen from a field in Guildford on the 17th instant, a small black mare Pony, supposed to be in foal. Information to be given to Superintendent John Henry Law, Borough Police Station, Guildford, Surrey.— Bow- slreet, April 30. Supposed to have been stolen during the night of the 27th instant, from Mortimer Fair, the property of Mr. R. Blundon, a rough white Welsh bred mare Pony, aged, about 12 hands high, low back, short switch tail, without shoeB, and in poor condition. Information to be given to Superintendent Crook, i Bucks Constabulary Station, Heading.— Bme- slreet, April 30. Stolen on the night of the 27th instant, a dark brown horBe Pony, between 11 and 12 hands high, brand on off hip, from the field of Mr. Samuel Hassall, at Edgware. Whoever will give such information as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders, shall receive £ 10 10s, reward, on application to W. S. Tootell, Secretary to the North West Middlesex Association for the prevention of robbery, — Bow- street, April 30. Supposed stolen on the night of the 25th, or early on the morning of the 2Gtb instant, from a field in Hawkchurch, the property of Samuel Domett, Esq., a black nag Horse, 6 yeare old, about 14 hands 1 inch high, star on forehead, long tail, hind feet white. Information to be given to Superintendent MacLlale, Beaminster, Dorset.— Bow- strut, April 30. Supposed to have been stolen since the 20th instant, from the Rectory at Coulsdon, near Croydon, a white Pony, aged, 12 hands high, long tail, one hind shoe off.— Metropolitan Police, W Division, April 27. Description of THOMAS POULTER, alias CLAY, a native of Great Wilbraham, Cambs, charged with stealing a Horse, a Saddle, and a Bridle, on the 18th instant, the property , of Martha Tillbrook, of the ' Ram Inn,' Brandon, Suffolk : 22 years of age, about 6 feet 3 inches high, fair complexion, light brown hair, grey eyes, slight whiskers, lips rather prominent and a little apart; dressed in a light grey cloth coat with large sleeves, black cloth trousers and vest, an old pair of lace- up shoeB, rather too large for him and patched at the sides, and a low- crowned felt hat; he is an ostler, but stated that he kept the ' Golden Ball' beerhouse, King- street, Norwich, which statement is not true ; he is v « ry likely to seek employment as an ostler or stableman ; he has a brother living at No. 7, Old Bailey, Loudon, to which place he stated he was going. Information to be given to Inspector Chapman, Haverhill, Suffolk, who holds a warrant lor his apprehension.— Haw- street, April 27. Supposed stolen from a fluid ia the parish of Kelsale, on the 18iU instant, a halt- bled Deicester and Down Wether Hogget, white face with hrown spots. £ 5 reward will be paid for information and conviction, if stolen, and all reasonable expenses will be paid on its recovery. Information to be given at the Police Station, Saxmundham, Suffolk.— Bow- st., April 26. Stolen from the city of Lincoln, about 6 p. m. on the 23rd instant, a chestnut roan Mare, strong make, 6 or 6 years old, 15 hands 3 inches high, near htnd leg white, loDg flowing mane, and switch tail ; also a double- reined Bridle and Saddle. By a man about 5 fret 6 or 6 inches high, small make, Bear on left eye ; dressed in dark or blue monkey jacket, dark trousers, and round dark billycock hat; he often' speaks French. Description of licence- holders who have failed to report themselves at Metropolitan Police Stations, as required by th ® • Penal Servitude Act, 1864' : PETER WHITTY, No. 2664 37 years of age, 5 feet 3f inches high, dark complexion, brown and grey hair, hazel eyes, several teeth out ; was sentenced to five years' penal servitude at the Central Criminal Court for uttering, and his sentence will expire on the 5th January, 1867. HENRY HOWARD, No. 6786, 35 years of age, 6 feet inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair, hazel eyes, marks of corporal punishment on back, and vaccination marks on right arm ; was sentenced to four years' penal servitude at a general court martial, Ahmednuggar, for military insubordi- nation, and his sentence will expire on the 28ih September next. WILLIAM WILLIAMS, No. 6719, 31 years of age, £ feet 3 inches high, sallow complexion, dark brown hair, grey eyes, two anchors, 4 W. S. M. W.
