Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the pur- pose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to MB. w. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre hend^ and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to tlie Editor for insertion. As n » charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made It is requested that the Barnes and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from the regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Mall, London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. INFORMATIONS MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. Between the hours of C' 40 p. m. and 8' 45 p. m. on the evening of the 13< h instant : SARAH MELVIN, a little girl, 6- years of age, was murdered by some person or persons un- known, on the road leading between Carrs Hill and the Felling, in the borough of Gateshead, in the county of Durham Her Body was found lying by the side of the foot- path, with a cord round her neck, and her hands tied together, she had also been violated, information to be given to Chief Constable Elliott, Town Hall, Gateshead.— Bow- St., April 16. Further information respecting the murder committed at Dudlick Mill, near Stottesdon, on the 14rh of January last, and advertised in the Police Gazette of the 19th of the same month. A reward of £ 100 is offered by Mr. John Meredith, of Dudlick, in lieu of the reward of £ 20 offered by hiin and the £ ZO offered by Mr. James Meredith, and a further reward of .£ 100 will be paid by the Government to any person or persons who will *: ive such information and evidence as shall lead to the conviction of the murderer or murderers ; and the Right Honourable Sir George Grey, Bart., Her Majesty's Principal Secretary of State, will advise the grant of Her Majesty's gracious pardon to any accomplice not being the actual murderer, who will give- such evidence as shall lead to the discovery and conviction of the murderer. Information to be given to Chief Constable Edgell, Shrewsbury, or to Super- intendent McWilliam, Bridgnorth, Salop.— Bow- street, April 16. The body of a newly horn female Child having been found murdered in the river at Llangefni, in the county of Anglesey, on the morning of the 11th ultimo, in addition to £ 20 offered by the local authorities, a further sum of £ 60 will be paid by the Government to any person who shall give such information and evidence as shall lead to the discovery and conviction of the offender or offenders, and Sir George Grey, Her Majesty's Secretary of State, will advise the grant of Her Majesty's pardon to any accomplice not being the actual murderer, who shall give such information and evidence as thall lead to the same result. Information to he given to the Chief Constable, Jflenai Bridge, Anglesey.— Bow- street, April 16. During the day time on the 30th ultimo Janet Hender- son, or Rogers, was murdered, in the kitchen of the farm- house of Mount Stewart, in the parish of Forgandenny, and county of Perth, by some person or persons at present un- known. A reward of £ i0() is heieby offered by Government, to any person who shall forthwith give such information to the Procurator Fiscal of Perthshire, or to the Chief Constable of County Police at Perth, as shall lead to the conviction of the murderer or murderers.— Bow- street, April 13. On the 30th ultimo the body of a female Child, from 3 to 4 monti s old, was found in Tennant's Canal, Cadoxton, near Neath. An inquest was held, and a verdict of ' Wilful Murder against some person or persons unknown' was returned. The child was dressed in a calico nightgown ; white fl- innel petticoat ; two wrappers, one a stripe flannel mended with a piece of an old stuff cravat, the other a grey kersey wove flannel, ragged, both with white calico bands ; a long calico binder ; a calico shirt ; a napkin of a three- cornered piece of cotton, as if been used for a man's neckerchief; a cotton lilac hood ; and a muslin cap. The child is supposed to belong to some trump. Information to be given to Super- intendent. Thomas, Constabulary Office, Neath, Glamorgan- shire.— Bow- street, April 6. farmer. FO RGERY Absconded, THOMAS SCHNEIDER STUBBINGS, late of the parish of Biddestone, Wilts, farmer, charged with forgery : .'< 5 to 40 years ot age. 6 feet 9 inches high, fair com- plexion, fresh and rather lull face, broad and stout made, rather liKht hair and whiskers; likely to be dressed as a ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON- Stolen from the person, at the Volunteer Review, Brighton, on the 2nd instant, a silver hunting Watch, makers Davey & Sons, Lewes, No. 43931. Information to be given at the Chief Constable's Office, Lewes, or to Superintendent W. Waghorn, Hailsham, Sussex.— Bow- street, April 16. Stolen on the 20th ultimo, from the person of Robert Hughes, at Wigan, a gold skeleton lever Watch, with stop, chronometer balance, centre seconds, and white dial sunk in the centre, maker Thomas Milner, Wigan, No. 1054, the number is also on the inside of outer case, winds up and sets bands on the back, back of case is smooth and engraved with shield and garter. A reward of £ 1 will be paid to any person who shall give such information as will lead to the recovery of the watch, and £ 3 for the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders. Stolen from the person of a gentleman, at the Volunteer Review, Brighton, on the 2nd instant, a gold J- lever Watch, maker Molyneaux, Lombard- street, No. 16079. Stolen from the person at the Volunteer Review on the 2nd instant, a silver verge Watch, No. 7636, makers Dwerri- house & Carter, London. Stolen from the person at Durham, on the 3rd instant, a patent silver lever watch, No. 1048, maker ' William Burnett, Durham, and a silver verge Watch, No. 13461, maker Walker, Old Hartlepool, ' Robert Brown' engraved on a 6mall shield on back of the outside case. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Beard, Borough Police Office, Durham.— Bow- atrcet, April 9. Stolen at the Volunteer Review, Brighton, on the 2nd instant, a silver lever Watch, maker G. H. Gowland, High- street, Sunderland, No. supposed to be 24502, a gold albert Chain, with a Locket the shape of a book, a miniature Pen- knife with three blades, a Corkscrew, and a Toothpick attached. Kenyon, in the ' Earl of Derby ' inn, Greaves- street, Blackburn, on the 11th ultimo, a silver verge Wstch, No. 648, maker Steadman, London, with steel Albert Gunrd and two brass Keys attached. Information to be given to Chief Constable J. Potts, Town Hall, Black- burn, Lancashire.— Bow- street, April 6. Stolen about 10 p. m. on the 4th instant, from the person of a gentleman, in the neighbourhood of Strangeways. a single stone diamond scarf Pin, set with claws, has been made from a shirt stud. Any person giving such information as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders, and recovery of the pin, will teceive £ 2 reward on application to Captain Palin, Chief Constahle, Town Hall, King Street, Manchester.— Boio- street, April 6. Stolen from various persons at the Volunteer Review on the 2nd instant: 1 gold hunting Watch, maker Moelder, Liege, Belgium, the Cathedral of Notre Dame, Paris, engraved on one side, a hunting scene on the other. 1 gold lever Watch, gold face, ' George Rodgers, coach builder, London,' engraved inside ihe case. 1 gold Watch, white enamelltd dial, blue figures, an inner circle containing Nos. 1 to 31, indicating the days ot the month, engine turned case with coat- of- arms surmounted by a crest. 1 gold Watch, white dial, seconds hand, maker Schmit- nagel, Brighton. 1 silver lever Watch, open face, seconds hand, engine- turned, maker Tanner, Lewes. 1 silver lever hunting Watch, maker Golding, Hastings, No. 61700, with a gold Albert Chain and a blue enamelled gold Locket attached. 1 silver gilt Geneva Watch, with gold curb Chain and a Five- franc attached. 1 silver lever Watch, sunk seconds, Np. supposed to be 6036. Information to be given to the Chief Constable, Town Hall, Brighton.— Bow- streit, April 6. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Between 9' 30 p. m on the 12th and 3 a. m. on the 13th instant, the dwelling house and shop of T. and W. Hayhurst, provision dealers, Stoop- lane, Bolton- by- Bowland, was entered by the door or shop window which was left open, and £ 30 in Gold and £ 10 in Silver stolen therefrom. Informa- tion to be given to Superintendent Cockshott, West Riding Constabulary, Settle, or Inspector Merrick, Bolton- by- Bowland, Yorkshire.— Bcno- street, April 16. During the night of the 13th instant, a sale room belong- ing to the Victoria Market, Oldham, was broken and entered, and the following property stolen therefrom : 69 pairs of black cloth Trousers, the fulls of which are variously lined with black cotton and linen, several hav « raised seams; 1G black cloth Vests, men's size, new, some lined with yellow, others with slate- coloured cotton, several are marked ' 10' near the right shoulder, others marked ' 5,' in red ruddle; C pairs of boy's dark blue ribbed cloth Trousers, some of which are lined round the tops with yellow cotton, others with purple and white check cotton ; 6 cashmeie Shawls, grey centres variously checked with red and white, some crimson; 1 Bed Tick ; and a tin Cash Box, about 8 inches long, brass handle, containing a few broken gold Rings, and an Auctioneer's Licence granted to ' William Kynan.' A reward of £ 5 will be paid by the owner to any person who ehall give such information as will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders and recovery of the property, or in proportion to the value of property recovered. Information to be given to Chief Con- stable James Wetherell, TOWN Hall, Oldliam.— Boio- ttreet, April 16. Between 10 p. m. on the 12th and C a. m. on the 13th instant the dwelling- house of Mrs. Harding, Peny clawdd, near Monmouth, was broken and entered, and a tin Teapot stolen therefrom. Two men of the following description are - uspected : one, about 36 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, stout made, fair complexion, dark brown hair and whiskers meeting under chin ; dressed in a rather long drab or moleskin coat, curd trousers, and strong boots, nearly new, with seven ro ws of square headed nails in soles, tips on heels, and billycock hat: the other, ab ut 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 6 inches high, proportionate mide, fair complexion, sandy hair and whiskers; dressed in velveteen coat with poskets, broad cord troustrs and leggings, jimcrow hat, and clogs with a piece of iron round the soles and three rows of nails ( not very regu'ar), Information to be given at the Chief Constable's Office, Usk, or to Superintendent Freeman, Abergavenny, Monmouthshire. Bow- street, April 16. During the night of the 11th instant, the saddle room of Mr. William Osborne, of Griffins Hill, Northfieid, win broken and entered, and the following property stolen therefrom: a black Overcoat, a black Vest bound with braid, a black cloth Overcoat with outline pockets. a black cloth Coat bound « ith braid, a grey Coat, Vest, and Trousers, a psir of black cloth Trousers, a pair of black woollen cord ditto, a blue plaid flannel Shirt, a light, ditto a red ditto, a calico ditto, a blue Necktie, » black low- crowned Hat, a gold Scarf Pin with marble stone, a frail Basket, and a Bundle Handkerchief, the property of the servants. A tramp is suspected, as some dirty old clothes were left behind, it is supposed that the offender is making his way for Gloucester and Bristol. Information to he given to Superintendent Humphries, Rings heath, near Birming- ham.— bow street, April 13. Early on the morning of the 7th instant the co operative stoie shop at Ryhope Colliery was broken and entered, and 1 he following property s'olen therefrom : 10s, in copper Money; 20 lbs. of red Cheshire Cheese ; 12 lbs. of Tobacco in fib. and 2 oz. packets ; two pairs of Balmoral Boots, laced in front; four pairs of elastic- side Boots, one pair larger than the other, all men's oize; four pairs of strong- made laced Boots, small s'ze ; one dozen chenille Hair Nets; five dozen cotton ditto ; seven woollen checked Shirts, men's size ; a pair of Pit Shoes, strongly nailed in the soles, one burnt at toe; 20 yards of fancy checked Flannel; twelve pairs of women's Gloves with white wool coloured tops ; and a checked woollen Muffler. Information to be given to Superintendent Jobson, Houghton- le Spring, or to Sergeant Harrison, Ryhope, near Sunderland, Durham.— Bow- street, April 13. On the night of the Gth instant the warehouse and shop of Mr. James Whitfield, ironmonger, Market- place, in the borough of Wigan, was feloniously entered by taking a glass slab out of the roof, and the following articles stolen : a small Opera Glass, finished iu dark- coloured leather or gilt, scratch- U marked * NL/ g >' a Telescope, in lignum viloc wood, about 10 inches long, the large glass cracked across, scratch- marked ' p/ e' or • N/ g ;' a small ditto, scratch- marked ' T/' or ' Z/ g;' two or three silver Fruit Knives, scratch- marked ' Z/' or' g/;' a German silver ditto, scratch- marked ' WE;' eleven plated Wedding Rings ; Is. Cd. in Silver and Is. Gd. in Copper; it is suspected that a number of Penknives were taken. A reward of £ 1 will be paid on the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders. On tlie same night the storehouse and shop of Mr. Michael Leyland, ironmonger, were entered by sliding a window in the roof ( which is on a level with Mr. Whitfield's roof) and the following articles stolen therefrom: a pair of electro plated Fish Carvers, in case; a Pocket Knife wirh six blades; and about 10s, in Copper. £' 1 reward will be paid by Mr. Leyland for the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Chief Constable Simm, Wigan, Lancashire.— Boa- itreet, April 11. Between the 18th and 31st ultimo the dwelling- house of Mrs. Langstaff, of No. 2, Sussex- place, Winchester, was broken and entered, and the following property stolen thtrefrom : one gold Brooch, with hair in devices; one ditto, with hair plaited, 1 W. S ;' one ditto, with ruby stones; one ditto, with green stone; one ditto, with pearls; one Ring, with pearls; one ditto, with cornelian stone ; one silver Table Spoon, marked ' E, R.;' one Watch Seal, marked ' G. L.;' one cornelian Ear- drop ; some, new Half crown Pieces, a Dollar, ai< d time old silver Coins. Information to be given to Head Constable Hubbersty, Winchester— Bow- street, April9, Between 9 a. m. on the 4th and 5 p. m. on the 5th instant the parsonage of Coddington, Notts, was burglariously entered, and the following property of the Rev. J. M. Dolphin, stolen therefrom : two plated pint Cups, prizes, one handle each, gilt inside, embossed, one bearing the arms of Oxford University, the other of Marlborough College, both bear the name of ' J, M. Dolphin an old fashioned gold Seal with white stone, impression' W. D.'; an old grey tweed Inverness Cape, very long; a single breasted grey tweed Over- coat, very old, light material, made by Nicolls, London; and a brown silk Umbrella with hook handle. Information to be given to Superintendent J. Bexon, Newark upjn- Trent, Notts.— Bow- street, April 9. Between 1 a. m. on the 1st and 6 a. m. on the 2nd instant, the grocer's shop belonging to William Jones, of St. Martin's Moors, in the county of Salop, was broken into, and about 10s. in Copper, and eight bundles of Silk Ends for whip lashes, of different colours, stolen therefrom. Supposed by boatmen on the canal. Also stolen from a garden hedge in the parish of Ellesmere, on the night of the 31st ultimo, a moleskin Jacket, nearly new, but h « s been mended on the left shoulder. Information to be given to Superintendent Gough, Oswestry, Salop.— Bow- street, April 6. On the afternoon of the 2nd instant the dwelling- house of Misses Clarke, Gungata- atreet, Tamworth, Warwickshire, was broken and enteied, and the following property stolen there- from : a gold Ring, set with pearls and blue stones, red centre; a gold fancy Chain, round link pattern; a mourning Brooch, set with light grey, black, and brown hair, to form Prince ot Wales feather, one ditto with light grey and black hair, each of tbem mounted in gold, one reversible; two gold Rings, set with hair, o, e marked ' E. C.'; a small gold fancy Brooch, set with hair under the glass ; four silver Table Spoons, plate marked ; nine or ten Tea Spoons, marked ' L.'; a pair of silver Sugar Bows; a green leather l'urse, with about £ 5 in Gold, and a few Shillings; a plated Knife Rest; a plated Butter Knife, blade chased, ivory handle; a pair ot plated Salt Spoons; an old silver Watch Case, and an old Five- shilling Piece. Two men of the following description are suspected of com- mitting the robbery: one about 45 years of age 5 feet 7 incbts high ; dressed in dark clothes aud bilk hat. The other 24 or 25 years of age, 5 leet 8 or 9 inches high, fresh complexion, dressed in a light overcoat ( velvet collar, buttoned close up to the chin), and a white deerstalker hat. £ 5 reward will be paid on the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders, by tlw said Misses Clarke. Information to be given to Inspector Hursher, Atherstone.— Bom- street, April 6. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Description of a Donkey supposed to have been stolen by gipsies trom IVmrnes, on the 4tti instant: very light brown, low in the hack, punch hole in left ear. bad on left forefoot, the property of John Jones. Information to be given to Superintendent Danily, Newtown, or to Police Constable Richard Thomas, Cemmes, Montgomeryshire.— Bow- street, April 16. The warrant against REES DAVIES, charged with steal inga Sheep at Courtffymon, Carmarthenshire, advertised in the Police Gazette of the llth December last, has been with- drawn.— Bow- street, April 16. Further information respecting THOMAS ALMOND, horsebreaker and clipper, of Peterborough, advertized iu the Police Gazette of the 1 Ith September list, charged with obtain- ing a Gelding by false pretences; he has been seen several times at Taitersall's, Aldridge's, in Oxford- street. Regent- street, and Grafton- street, Bond- street, London, aud had on, on the 30th ultimo, a blue cloth long jacket and black silk hat. Any person giving such information as will lead to his apprehension and conviction shall receive £ 5 reward. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Barker, Fletton, Peter- borough.— Bots- street, April 16. Absconded on the 14th instant, from Burslem, a carter, stealing and taking with him a Horse, Cart, and Harness, the property ot James Woollescroft, of Goldenhill: the Horse is aged, of a roan colour, with flaxen mane and tail, legs rather darker than body, about half bred, and not much hair on heels; the Cart is a heavy one- horse cart, which has been repaired on the sides and the hoards fresh painted, is in good condition, and has the i. aiue ' James Woollescroft' on a narrow board ou the off sido ; the Harness is of the description usually used for heavy carting, and is in good condition, except the collar, which is old, and the leather is off the top. The carter is supposed to have left Burslem about 5 p. m. Information to be given to the Superintendent of Police, Burslem ; to Inspector Soott, Tunstall; or at any Police Station in the county of SUfford.-& M0 street, April 16. Found at Wombourne, Staffordshire, on the 4th instant, supposed to have been stolen, a light brown Donkey, 2 yeais old, in good condition, and without shoes. Information to be given to Police Constable Dobson, Police Station, Wombourne, Wolverhampton, Staffordshire.— Bow street, April 13. Stolen from St. Clere Farm, Ightham, Kent, between tha 7th and 10th instant, a nearly thorough bred bay Mare, aged, 16 hands high, black legs, without shoes. Information to be given to Superintendent Hulse, East Malling, Kent.— Bow- street, April 13, Supposed to have been stolen from Shrivenham, Berks, on the nig lit of the 7th instant, the property of Thomas Stevens, a light chestnut mare Pony, 4 years old, 14 hands high, has a white streak down the forehead, mane and tail rather lighter than the coat, rather cow hocked of the near hind leg, very stout build, but in low condition. Information to be given to Superintendent Coleman, Faringdon, Berks.— Bow- st., April 13. About the 6th ultimo a sheep wa9 slaughtered in a field at Gwernygwo, and the carcase taken away, but the head and skin were left behind. Information to be given to Superinten- dent Danily, Newtown, or to Police Constable Owen, Kerry, Montgomeryshire,— Bow- street, April 13. Supposed to have been stolen, from Beech House, Hurleston, the property of Samuel Boffey, a dark brown 3 year old filly cart Colt, shod in the fore feet, long tail and has one white hind foot, was last heard of in Whitchurch, Salop. Information to bs given to Superintendent Laxton, County Police, Nantwich, Cheshire.— iJoio- i! rerf, Jprii 11. Supposed to have been stolen on the morning of the 1st instant, from Earl Stonham, the property of Mr. Nunn, a small bay mare Pony, about 6 years old, tail cut broom fashion, hair rubbed off round the neck where the collar goes, is well shod, and very wild. Information to be given to Sergeant Foster, Police Station, Stonham, East Suffolk.— Bou>- street, April 9. Found, supposed to have been stolen, in the borough of Detby, oil the 24tb February, a dark brown Mare, black legs, the rear fore knee much cut, 14 hands high, aged, and in low condition. Information to be given to Chief Constable Hilton, Town Hall, Derby.— Bow- street, April 9. Supposed to have been stolen from a field at Ugborough, Devon, since the 29th ultimo, the property of Mr. Arthur White : a bay filly Colt, nearly thoroughbred, rising 4 years old, 14 to 15 bunds high, Mack legs, sane on near liind foots long tail, in good condition. If strayed all reasonable expense, will be paid by Mr. White on recovery of the colt. Informa- tion to be given to the Chief Constable's Office, Paris street, Exeter.— Bow- street, April 9. Stolen from a field in the parish of Brownsover, on the night of ilie 5th instant, the property of A. B. Leigh, Esq, a bright chesnut Horse, aged, Hi hands high, botli knees broken, saddle marked, a splint forming on the off fore leg, well bred, has been hunted during the season, when his fore legs are touched he will stretch out his legs to let any one get on bis hack. Information to be given to Superintendent Wild, Rugby.— uow- streel April 9. Supposed to have been stolen from a field at Birchfield, Stafford, on the night of the 28th ultimo, two dark brown inare Poriie6, one 2 years o d, and the other 5 years old, about 12^ hands high, one has a star on the forehead, the other has hair rubbed otf the neck, and mane turns on the wroDg side ; the property of Mr. Hughes, Great Russell street, Birmingham, by whom 10s. reward and expeness will be paid, on recovery of the ponies. Information to be given at the Police Stations, Birmingham, Aston, or Haudwortti.— Bow- street, April 9. Dunnfield or Duckenfield,' and lined with Gold ; a large gold Watch Key, with a dark stone on one side and a yellow stone on the other ; a Fire Insurance Policy, some unpaid Bills made out to Richard Denton Pitt, and other Memoranda. By four men of the following descrip- tion : one is about 24 years of age, but stated he was 27, about 6 feet 10 inches high, dark brown hair, ginger whiskers, pleasant appearance, and dressed in a fine pilot fancy stiort overcoat, green checked trousers, elastic, side boots, and black hat ; another is about 30 years of age, nearly 5 feet 11 inches high, very white teeth, brown hair and whiskers, and dressed in a drab cloth overcoat, and brown mixture suit ; another is about 30 years of age, nearly 5 feet 6 inches high, black hair, short whiskers, and dressed in dark clothes ; and the other was a smaller man than the others.
