The Names of Persons charged with Offences who are knoivn but not in custody, and a Description of those who are not known, their Appearance, Dress, and other marks of identity. The Names of Accomplices and Accessories, with every particular which may lead to their Apprehension. Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the pur- pose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to MR. W. D. BURNABY, the Editor, Police Court, Bow- street, London, W. C. Whenever it is desired that any person should ho appre hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that a Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, Jlf the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As ne charge is made for the insertion of any article in tlie POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor must l » e prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from the regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Mall, London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without his . authority. INFORMATIONS MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. On the morning of the 26th ult.. the body of a newly born • female child was found under a wall in Moira- street, Cardiff ; it was wrapped in an old towel, some old linen, and a small piece of coburg cloth. At the coroners inquest the jury re- turned a verdict of ' wilful murder against some person or persons unknown.' £ 5 reward will be paid to whoever will give such information as will lead to the apprehension of the person, who placed the Body where it was found. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON- Stolen on the 3rd instant, from a gentleman, in the Strand, a gold lever engine- turned Watch, maker Harrison, Liverpool. Supposed by a man 18th years of age, dressed in an old brown Inverness cape and black hat.— Metropolitan Police, F Division, March 9. Stolen from the person of a coal miner, between 8 and 9 p. m. on the 26th ultimo, at West Riding- terrace, Nermanton, a silver lever hunting Watch, No. 8017, maker Joseph Johnson. Information to be given to Superintendent Hall, West Riding Constabulary, Wakefield.— Bow street, March 7. Description of a mau charged with committing a burglary at Kenton, in Northumberland, during the night of the 19th ultimo : about 30 years of age, 6 feet C or 7 inches high, stout make, swarthy complexion, black hair, dark moustache, no whiskers, wants a portion of forefinger ( supposed left hand), scar above left eye; dressed in blue pilot cloth jacket, very wide blue trousers, lace- up boots, red muffler, aud black cap with peak ; speaks the south country dialect, and has the appearance of a sailor. He was last heard of going west of Hexham, on the road to Cumberland. He is supposed to have committed a similar offence at Whittington, Northumber- land. Information to be given to Superintendent W. Woukey, Bulman's Village. Newcastle- on- Tyne.— Bow- street, March 12. During the night of the 3rd instant the station- house and office at Slaggyford, on the Haltwhistle and Alston Railway, was broken into, and the following property stolen there- from : £ 4 in Gold, £ 2 8s. in Silver, 12s. 3d. in Copper; a £ 1 Sunderland Bank Note ( dishonoured); a gold Watch- guard, cable pattern, with gold Key attached ; and an old- fashioned composition Watch with tinsel Guard attached. By a man, who gave his name as JOHN RUTHERFORD, about 40 years of age, 6 feet 7 or 8 inches high, proportionate make, pale complexion, light browu hair, ginger whiskers meeting under chin, blue mark on bridge of nose and on ono wrist; dressed in dark cap and dark clothes; speaks the Cumberland dialect, supposed to be a pitman, and a native of Penrith. And a man of the following description : 28 or 30 years of age, about 6 feet 7 inches high, black hair, no whiskers, black moustache, swarthy complexion, wants a portion of forefinger ( supposed left . hand), scar above left eye ; dressed in a black cap with leather peak and strap and a yellow button at each side of peak, rough blue pilot cloth jacket, very wide blue trousers, red muffler, and lace- up boots round at toes; has the appearance of a sailor, and speaks the south country d alect. Information to be given to Major Browne, Chief Constable, Alnwick, or to Superintendent G. Stephenson, Constabulary Office, Hexham, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, March 12. On the night of the 2Gth ultimo, the dwelling- house of Mr. Philip Elliott, of Bradley Mill, in the parish of Wolsing- lum, in the county of Durham, was broken into, and about £ 2 10s. in Money, a pair of brown worsted Stockings, with white tops and toes, and other articles, stolen therefrom. Supposed by a man from 27 to 30 years of age, 6 feet 6 or 6 inches high, black hair and moustache, dark eyes, swarthy complexion, lias lost part of the forefinger and a piece of the thumb of his left hand ; dressed in a blue pilot jacket, wide blue trousers, black cloth cap with leather peak and strap, with a yellow button at each end of strap, boots, and had over his shoulder a dark- coloured rough rug ; he sleeps in stables or outhouses, had in his possession a pistol and two or three large knives, has the appearance of a seaman, and committed similar robberies in the counties of Durham and Northumberland. Information to be given to Superintendent Robinson, Durham County Constabulary, Stanhope.— Bow- street, March 12. Between the hours of 5 and 8 on the night of the 7th mation to be given to Detective Inspector Britnor, Altrincham, Cheshire.— Bow- street, March 5. Stolen from the person of a lady in Sheffield, on the evening of the 1st instant, a brown morocco leather Purse, containing a £ 60 Bank of England Note, dated 1864, Leeds, July 11, No- 87419 B | N. Whoever will give such informa- tion as shall lead to the recovery of the note and conviction of the offender or offenders shall receive £ 5 reward, on application to Chief Constable Jackson, Town Hall, Sheffield, Yorkshire. Bow- street, March 5. Stolen from the person of a gentleman in Sheffield, on the night of the 14th ultimo, a gold lever Watch, No. 61028, and a gold Albert Guard with a Guinea attached. £ 5 reward will be paid to any one who shall give such information as may lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders and recovery of the property. Information to be given to Chief Constable Jackson, Town Hall, Sheffield, Yorkahire.— Bow- street, March 5. Stolen from the person of a gentleman at Sunderland, on the 28th ultimo, two Watches : one a silver lever, maker William Farquhar, London, No. 1441 ; the other a silver lever, maker John Marshall, Sunderland, capped and jewelled in six holes, enamelled dial, and engine- turned cases. Information to be'given to Chief Constable Joseph Stainsley, Sunderland, Durham.— Bow- street, March 2. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Stolen on the night of the 8th or early on the following morniDg, from the post- office at Chipping Ongar, by means of j burglary, the following property : Receipt Stamps to the amount of 19s. ; Penny, Twopenny, Fourpenny, Sixpenny, and following property stolen therefrom Shilling Stamps to the amount of £ 23 ; 10 or 121bs. of black and " ereen Tea ; a pair of woman's kid Shoes, double soles ; a silver Tea Spoon, marked « S.'; a dirty brown cotton Bag, 2 feet by 10 or 12 inches wide ; and about £ 3 in Silver and Copper, 1 Japan Cash Box, containing 1 Sovereign, 2 half Sove- rings, 20 Shillings in Silver, some Letters addressed to Mr. Bunting, and a Cheque on Mills, Bawtree & Co. ( payment of which is stopped). 1 large gold Ring, with light hair, engraved inside ' Edward Ellis. s 1 gold Ring, with bunch of Trinkets attached thereto. 1 gold Ring set with red and white stones. 1 gold Ring set with red and greenstones. 3 gold Rings with hair. 8 Shillings in silver. 1 large gold Brooch, with 6 sorts of hair ( mixed). 1 small gold Brooch. 1 large cameo Brooch ( reversible), set in goli 1 gold Eye Glass. 1 silver pencil Case. 2 watch Keys. 1 miniature Album. 1 green Ornament. 1 pair of gold wrist Links. Three men of the following description are suspected, one of them having been seen to leave the premises, the others waiting near : one, about 40 years of age, 6 feet 0 or 7 inches high, hair inclined to sandy, stout built, pug nose, dressed in long coat and dark trousers; another, about 23 years of age, 6 feet 2 or 3 in » . high, rather dark complexion, small whiskers, dressed in light coloured coat and dart; trousers; the other, about 6 feet 8 inches high, thin features, fair complexion, pock- pitted, small light whiskers ; dressed in light coloured clothes. £ 4 4s. reward will, on conviction of the ottender or offenders, be paid in moieties. Information to be given to H. C. Downes, Town Hall, Colchester.— Bow- street, March 12. About 7 p. m. on the 4th instant the hou6e of Mrs. Read, at Bitterne, was entered by means of skeleton keys, and the a gold Bracelet; a silver ditto ; a gold Brooch, with likeness; a gold Ring, initials ' V. P. ;' a gold Ring, diamond centre ; a gold Watch Hook ; five bilver Table Spoons, some marked ' T. M. R,,' and some « M a silver Gravy Spoon. marked ' T. 1 M, a silver Gravy SpooD, marked « T. M. R. two silver Sauce Ladles; six silver Dessert Spoons; six ditto Fork ten plated Forks; eight silver Tea Spoons, marked1T. M. R. j a silver Mustard Pot and Spoon ; a Bilver Cream Jug; a silver Pickle Fork ; a plated Skewer ; a plated Butter Knife ; and a pair of silver Sugar Tongs, marked ' T. M. It,' Supposed by a man about 35 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, black bushy whiskers, and dressed in shabby black. Inlormation to be given to Superintendent Stannard, Hants Constabulary Station, Bitterne, or at any of the hants Constabulary Stations. — Bow- siteet, March 9. During the night of the 4th instant, the dwelling house of Mr. Mytton, at Great Comberton, was broken and entered, and stolen therefrom, a pair of men's strong Shoes, nailed ; a pair of men's light Shoes, spriged, with four holes to lace; and 3 silver Thimbles, two of them much worn Information to be given to Superintendent Harris, Pershore, Worcestershire,— Bow- street, March 7. On the 23rd ultimo the house of Mary Morris, of Hard- wick, Salop, was broken and entered, and a pair of men's strong lace- up Boots, plain lace holes, square headed nails round heels, a row of hobnails all round soles and one partially round, fire or seven rows across the ball, stolen therefrom,; also a pair of cotton curd Trousers, about half wora, nearly white from frequent washing, were stolen from the garden. By THOMAS DAVIES, native of Berriew, Montgomeryshire, 30 years of age, 6 feet 8 inches high, fair complexion, long and straight ligft hair, small sandy whiskers, little finger of left hand recently hurt by machinery ; dressed in round white alop with band round waist, plush sleeved waistcoat ( mixed colour, red predominating), and the stolen trousers and boots. Will probably be found working at a farmhouse. Information to be given to Superintendent Baxter, Church Stretton, or to Sergeant James Lear, Police Station, Bishop's Castle, Salop, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- st., March 6. During the night of the 24th ultimo the dwelling- houie of W. 11. Miles, Esq., of Ham- green, near Bristol, was broken into, and the following articles stolen : aq ivory Case with engraved monogram In black ' M F M,' contacting a silver gilt Pencilcase, a stiletto Bodkin, a pair of Scissors, and a small Needlecase, all marked with a small star; a gold Pencilcase with plain white cornelian Beal top; a double silver topped Scent- bottle, ' M F M' monogram on each end; a silver Thimble ; several pairs of Seissors ; a plated Cruet stand; four plated Corner- stands, two round and two with three leaves; the silver Tops of two pepper bottles and mustard pot; twelve silver handled Knives, crest— a cat's head; a silver hunting Flask, marked' W. 11. Miles, Leigh Court'; a small silver Cup, marked ' M. F. C.'; two plated Tea Spoons, crest— a man's head ; [ arid about 14s. in silver. Entrance was effected by means of cutting a hole in the front door with a large centre bit. £ 10 reward will be given for such information as shall le- id to the apprehension ard conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Superintendent E. Jones, Long Ashton, near Bristol, Somersetshire.— Bow- si., March 2. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Supposed to have been stolen between the 26th ultimo and the 4th instant, from the farm of Mr. John Matthews, Chapple, two Sheep, half- breed Leicester hoggets, long wool. Information to be given to Superintendent J. May, Witham, Essex.— Butt- street, March 12. Supposed to have been stolen on the night of the 2Cth, or morning of the 27th ultimo, from a field at Flatts Cotiage, Marwood, near Barnard Castle, a bay mare Pony, 6 years old, about 12J hands high, white star on forehead, longish switch tail, and in good condition ; the property of Mr. William Kellett, of Flatts Cottage. Information to be given to Superintendent Knox, County Constabulary, Barnard Castle, Durham.— Bow- street, March 12. Further particulars respecting the Mare in foal, and Cob, stolen from Hushorn Crawley, Beds, advertised in the Polioe Gazette of the 23rd ultimo: they are supposed to. be concoaled in the counties of Essex, Herts, Cambs, or Hunts, in the possession of gipsies, or to have been moved into Norfolk or Suffolk. Information to be given to Superintendent Young, Woburn, beds.— Bow- street, March 9. Stolen, supposed by gipsies, on the 2nd instant, from Baston Form, Hayes, a brown cart Mare, in foal, black legs, few white hairs on forehead, scar on near hind legs, 3 years old, no shoes.— Metropolitan Police, P Division, March 9. Found, about three weeks ago at Sawbridgeworth, and sup- posed to have been stolen, a brown cob Mare, blind with lefi eye, both knees broken, a little white hair on the back under the saddle, and in low condition. Information to be given to Inspector Ryder, Bishop Stortford, Herts.— Bow- street March 1. Stolen from a meadow in Kingston- lane, near East- street, Epsom, Surrey, on the 2nd or 3rd instant, a bay Mare, 6 years old, 16 hands high, rough coat, long tail, Roman nose, and only partly broken; also a dark brown cob Gelding, 14 hands high, no white except the saddle marks, a little lame in one of the fore feet. Information to be given at the ' Railway Tavern,' Epsom, Surrey.— Bow- street, March 5. Stolen on the 28th ultimo, from a stable, No. 35, Little Russell- street, Bloomsbury, a bright bay Horse, 6 years old, 14£ hands high, in good condition, star on forehead, white streak down forehead, off hind fetlock white, round shoe and leather on near fore foot; a spring Cart, painted lead colour, 2 March 12. ' C. Jeakes & Co., Engineers, 61, Great Russell- street,' painted in black letters on side; a tec of brass mounted Harness, complete ; a dark Horsecloth with red stripe ; and a corn Sack. — Metropoli an Police, & Division, March 5. Suppo.- ed to have been stolen from a field adjoining the back of the cavalry barracks, Windsor, about the 2oth ultimo, a black Gelding, about hands high. If stolen, £ 5 6s. re- ward will be paid to any person giving such information as will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender ot offenders ; if strayed, £ 1 Is. will be paid on recovery of the gelding, on application to the Treasurer of the Windsor Association, Mr. W. S. Cantrell, High- street, Windsor. Infor- mation to be given to Inspector Reece, Police Station, Clewer. — Bow- street, March 5. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Description of GEORGE OAKLEY, a blacksmith, who absconded lrom Upton- on- Severn on the 26th ultimo, charged with stealing an Axe and a Hacker, which have been recovered : he is about 19 or 20 years of age, 6 feet 9 inches high, rather sallow complexion, dark brown liair, no whiskers or beard, large fall face ; he is supposed to be working at his trade, either in Hereford or Gloucester. Information to be given to Superintendent Checketts, Upton- on- Severn, or to Acting Insptc or Turner, Gieat Malvern.— Bow- st., March 12. Description of SAMUEL ALEXANDER SHEDDEN, Clerk, and lately employed as Collector to the Swansea Gas Light Company, charged with embezzling £ 66, the property of the said company : he is a native of Bristol, about 32 years of age, 6 feet 1 If iucher high, fresh complexion, red or ginger hair, whiskers, aud moustache ( the latter may be shaved oil), has rather a stooping gait, and walks lame in consequence ot sore feet. He left Landore, near Swansea, by a first- class rail- way carriage on the evening of the Cih instant, for Gloucester, dressed in a uark loose overcoat, light trousers, brown cloth boots, and soft felt hat. It is suppose d be intends to em grate. Information to be given to Head Constable Allison, Swansea, who holds a warrant lor his apprehension.— Bow- st., March 12. Description of THOMAS GRIFFIN, charged with steal- ing from his lodgings at Malvern Link, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 2nd ultimo : a warrant has been issued for his apprehension. Information, to be given to Superintendent Checketts, Upton on- severo, or to Acting Inspector Turner, Great Malvern.— Bow- street, March 12. Absconded on the 6th instant, from No. 293, Oxford- street, embezzling £ 2 12s. 6d. : a youth, 16 years of age, 4 feet 10 inches high, fair complexion, hair, and eyes, high cheekbones, walks lame; dressed in short dark jacket, vest, and trousers, dark cloth cap with peak, and red comforter.— Metropolitan Police, C Division, March 12. # Stolen on the 4th instant, from No. 3, Middle- row North, Knightsbridge, £ 3 10s. in Silver, three Half- Sovereigns, and an old- fashioned pair case silver Watch, new dial. No. 2576, maker Hanington, Liverpool. By a man 20 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, fair complexion, dark brown hair, and dressed in black cloth coat, drab tweed trousers, and brown stitched hat .— Metropolitan Police, B Ditision, March 9. Description of FREDERICK JAMESON, a seaman, who absconded from South Shields on the 6th instant, stealing the sum of £ G 10s. and a Meerschaum Pipe, mounted with silver, the property of Robert Prime, with whom he was lodging : about 27 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, swarthy complexion, downcast look, eyebrows nearly meeting, dark whiskers on chin, rather round shoulders, and dressed in brown tweed coat, dark vest and trousers, and hairy cap. It is sup posed that he has returned from America, he having a quantity of American money in his possession, and has also a pocket- book with the name Patrick or Peter O'Neil written in it. Supposed gone to Liverpool. Information to be given to Chief Constable Richardson, South Shields, Durham.— Bow- street, March 9. Stolen on the 28th ultimo, from No. 11, Onslow- gardens, Brompton: 1 large gold Brooch with tassel. 1 black enamel Buckle, set with diamonds. 1 gold band Bracelet, set with opals and diamonds. 1 blue turquoise Ring. 1 Maltese gold Bracelet. 1 Bracelet, Brooch, and Solitaires, all to match, in garnet stones. 1 silver Brooch, Indian seeds. 1 pair of gold Ear- rings and Case. 1 Irish bogwood Bracelet, with imitation pearls. 1 steel Brooch. 1 pair of blue Ear rings, Hair Pins to match. 1 small band enamel gold Ring. 1 pair of pearl Opera Glasses and a Fan. By a female, 48 years of age, spare figure, pale complexion, dark brown hair and eyes ; dressed in a black gown and bonnet, black and white plaid shawl.— Metropolitan Police, B Division, March 9. Absconded on the 3rd instant, from High- street Epsom, stealing three pairs of Uppers ( two side springs and one button), and one Last: a man, 22 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, sallow complexion, thin, no beard or whiskers: dressed in a black coat, light trousers, colored flannel shirt, and hat; accompanied by a woman, 20 years of age, short; dressed respectably, and wore ear- riogs with white drops.— Metropolitan Police, V Dmsim, March 9. Stolen on the 5th instant, from No. 6, Heygate- street, Walworth, a Purse, 20s. in Silver, a Pawnticket for a watch, a pair of dark striped doeskin Trousers, and several Memoranda. By a man, 23 years of age, 6 feet 7 inches high, pale com- plexion : dressed in black long loose overcoat and felt hat; supposed gone to Chatham.— Metropolitan Police, P Division. March 9. Stolen on the 28th ultimo, from 35, Pelham- place, Thurloe square, Brompton, £ 20 in Gold, a double- breasted cloth Vest with violet stripes, and a pair of lace- up Boots with patent toe- caps and brass eyelets. By a man, 45 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, dark complexion, hair, whiskers, and eyes, very high cheek bones; dressed in dark mixture coat, slate colouted trousers, billycock hat, and lace boots. Sup- posed gone to Liverpool.— Metropolitan Police, B Division, March 9. Absconded on the 5th instant from No. 15, Wimbolt- street, Bethnal Green, stealing 3 pairs of Oxonian Shoes, a man, 38 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, fair complexion, light brown hair, and dressed in black coat and trousers, brown cloth wideawake hat. and side- spring boots.— Metropolitan Police, H Division, March 9. Absconded from Shrewsbury, on the 24th ultimo, charged on a warrant with embezzlement, ELIJAH BROWN, a book cinvasser, about 20 years ot age, 6 feet 5 inches high, light brown hair, fresh complexion, low forehead, and pug nose ; die. ssed in a light mixture cloth overcoat, a pair of light coloured trouseis, and a black low crowned hat; supposed to be in the neighbourhood of Knighton, or Fresteign, Radnorshire. Infor- mation to be given to Head Constable Hughes, Shrewsbury. — Bow street, Marclil. Description of two men charged with felony : JOHN COX, 30 years of age, 5 feet £ inch high ; dressed in short black coat, cord trousers and vest, and wideawake hat. WILLIAM DAY, 26 yeais of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, blotches on face, marked with the letter ' D ', bayonet wound on thigh ; dressed in white slop, cord trousers, and black cloth cap. Both belong to the West Essex Militia. Information to be given to Superintendent Simpson, Springfield, Chelmsford, Essex, who holds a warrant for their apprehension.— Bow- street, March 5. Description of GEORGE STOKES, who absconded from the Hastings Union House, at Ore, on the 21st ultimo, taking with him a suit of the Union Clothes, a canvas Slop, and a pair of hop- sacking Trousers : 35 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, stout make, full face, fair complexion, brown hair, and line - undy whiskers; diessrd in the uuion dress, viz., fustian jacket, vest, and trousers, all marked 4 Hastings Union,' or he may be wearing the canvas slop and hop- sacking trousers. Information to be given to Superintendent Jeffery, Guestling, or to Sergeant Mansbridge, Ore, Sussex, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, March 5. James Brogdeu, a draper's assistant, 30 years of age, 6 feat 4 inches high, fresh complexion, stout make, full face, grey eyes, light brown hair and whiskers meeting under the chin, and dressed in a black hat, coat, and vest, aud light tweed trousers ; he is supposed to have been previously convicted, and served sentences at Wakefield, Manchester, Salford, aud Kirkdale Gaols. Ellen Brogden ( name fictitious) has been living with James Brogden as his wife, is 30 years of age, 5 leet 1 inch high, fresh complexion, slender make, oval face, grey eyes, light brown hair, and dressed in a black hat, light merino dress, and a light coloured cloth jacket. David Ogden, who is a greengrocer, did reside at No. 3, Lime- street, Manchester, is 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, proportionate make, thin face, large sandy whiskers meeting under the chin, and dressed in a blue short coat, aud black billycock hat; has had a donkey and cart, and has been previously convicted of felony in Lancashire or Yorkshire.
