W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. INFORMATIONS MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. On the 20th instant tho dead body of a male infant Child was found in a privy vault, on the Normanton- road, Derby. An inquest has been held, and a verdict of ' Wilful Murder against some person or persons ' returned. Information to be given to Chief Constable G. Hilton, Town Hall, Derby.— Bow- street, February 23. ARSON AND WILFUL BURNING- On the night of the 16th instant a wheat rick in a field upon Oshaston's Farm, near Monmouth, the property of Mr. Henry Probert, was discovered to he on fire, and supposed caused by an incendiary. Any person giving such information and evidence as shall lead to the discovery of the offender or offenders will be handsomely rewarded. Information to be given to Superintendent Edmund Wheeler, Monmouth Borough Police.— Boio- street, February 21. ; FORGERY- Absconded from Macclesfield on the 17th instant, charged with having forged a Bill for £ 300 : WILLIAM TAYLOR, a silk manufacturer, about 24 or 25 veajs of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, pale complexion, dark hair, black moustache, no whiskers, and of gentlemanly appearincs; generally dressed in dark clothes, and light grey overcoat; it is supposed that he will have a large sum of money in his possession, and will emigrate. Information to be given to Superintendent Etchells, Maccles- field, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, February 23. Description of a man who presented at Messrs. Brightwen and Gille't's, Finch- lane, City, on the 6th instant, a forged Bill for £ 888 5s. od., and who upon the forgery being detected made his escape from the office : a foreigner, speaks English imperfectly, about 40 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, dark hair and moustache, olive coloured eyes, sallow complexion, pensive countenance ; dressed in dark c'othes ; wore a false beard and moustache. Information to be given at the City Detective Police Department.— Bow- street, February 19. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON- Stolen about 10- 30 p. m. on the 8th instant, from the person of a gentleman, in Cross- street, Manchester, a gold Watch, maker ' L. Beaver, Manchester, No. 48841,' had attached a long gold Chain. Any person giving such information as will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders, and recovery of the watch, shall receive £ 5 reward, on application to Captain Palin, Chief Constable, Town Hall, King- street, Manchester.— Bow- street, Fbruary 26. Stolen on the 21st instant, from a gentleman at Cow- cross- street Railway Station, a gold chronometer Watch, maker Roskell, Liverpool. Metropolitan Police, G Division, leb. 26. Stolen from the person of a gentleman about 10 p. m. on the night of the 16th instant, while at the end of Anderstaff- lane, Burton- on- Trent, an old- tashioned gold Geneva Watch, makers J. and A. Aronson, Bangor, with a thick gold Albert Chain attached. Inlormation to be given to Inspector Williams, Burton- on- Trent, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, February 19. Stolen about 8- 20 p. m. on the 13th instant, from the person of a gentleman, in Old Millgate, Manchester, a gold lever Watch, maker J. Penlington, Liverpool, No. 4857, cream coloured dial, gold hands, had attached a gold albert Chain, gold Key, one side a lion rampant holding a sword, and gold swivel Seal, green stone one side, black and white the other. Any person giving such information as will lead to the recovery of the property and apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders shall receive £ 3 reward, on application to Chief Constable Captain Palin, Town Hall, King street, Manchester. — Bow street, February 16. Stolen from the person of a gentleman in Sheffield, on the night of the 14th inst., a ggld English lever Watch, No 61028, gold dial, and engine- turned cases, and a plain gold Albert Guard, with an old spade ace Guinea attached. Information to be given to Chief Constable Jackson, Town Hall, Sheffield. — Bow- street, February 16. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. During the nieht of the 21st instant, the dwelling- house of Mr. Audley, of Kingsley, was broken and entered, and the following property stolen: three snuff- coloured velveteen shooting Jackets, one of them has six pockets, and the others four each ; six new white calico Shirts, part made ; three ditto, made up ; three pairs of men's Blucher Boots, light make ; a pair of strong lace- up Boots, with brass holes, the right boot has a hole through the bottom ; a pair of woman's elastic- side Bgots ; two pairs of cloth buttoned Boots, nearly new ; two black^ cloth Capes ; a Paisley Shawl; two white Tablecloths ; a blue and white ditto; a white and red ditto; a woman's grey woollen Shawl ; a Shirt Front and several Collars ; a white and red knitted Purse ; a leather clasp Purse ; 5 yars of new blue and white Check ; three pairs of men's grey Stockings; a pair of leather Leggings ; a check Slop ; six Umbrellas ; two Parasols; two black- handled Razors; a Likeness of a young man ; ditto of a young woman ; two ladies' Falls ; three flannel Shirts ; several men's Scarfs; a black felt Hat; five silver Tea Spoons, fiddle pat tern, marked ' T. H.; six silver Spoons, marked ' M. G.;' and £ 8 in Gold and Silver. Information to be given to Superintendent Gwynne, Tarporley, or to Sergeant Hilton, Police Office, Frodsham, Cheshire. — Bow - street, February 26. During the night of the 23rd instant the dwelling house of the Rev. G. Alfree, Romanoff Cottage, Tunbridge Wells, was broken and entered, aud the following property stolen there- from : 1 case of Mathematical Instruments in brass, with a set of Marquoise Scales, in a mahogany box, about 14 inches long. 1 case of Mathematical Instruments in german silver, in a rosewood box, about 7 inches long. 1 small double Opera or Field Glass in case. 1 rough dark blue Overcoat, plaid or check lininj, two large pockets inside flap, one inside breast pocket, and one ticket pocket outside. 1 thin dark mixture Overcoat, breast pocket inside and ticket pocket outside. 1 dark blue leather Writing Case with Bramah lock, containing a new buff coloured leather Purse, 10 s. 6d. in Money, and a number of Memoranda and Letters addressed ' Mrs. Allfree.' 5 silver Thimbles— one engraved ' E. S.', one ' Forget- me- not,' and one ' A present from Hastings.' 1 meerschaum Pipe- bowl, nearly new, with wash leather round it. 1 vol. Smith's Antiquities, in calf, morocco outside cover; 1 vol. Euclid ; 1 vol. Virgil's Eclogues; 1 Biddells' Dictionary, in cloth ; I Bullman's Sexilogues ; 1 Chepmell's Course of History; 1 Xenophon ; and 1 Homer's Iliad ; some have the name of ' Allfree' inside and some ' Barrett' or ' Walker.' Information to be given to Superintendent Embery, Tunbridge Wells, Kent.— Bow- street, February 26. Stolen at Swindon, on the 24th instant, from a shop window, by taking out a pane of glass, a silver lever consular Watch, jewelled in four holes, No. 28353 ; a silver verge con- sular Watch, No. 11075, a silver albert Chain attached ; a silver verge hunting Watch ; and a small silver Geneva hunting Watch, No. 25288. Supposed by two lads: one about 17 or 18 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high; dressed in dark clothes, and black bowler hat. The other 12 or 13 years of age, dressed in dark clothes and cap. Information to be given to Superintendent Haynes, Wilts Constabury, Swindon.— Boic- street, February 26. Between 12 noon and 6 p. m. on the 20th instant, the dwelling- bouse of Mr. Richard Hill, of Tong, was broken and entered through the back chamber window, and the following property stolen therefrom: £ 8 7s. in Gold and Silver ; a yellow and white silk Handkerchief; a man's puce and white silk Scarf for neck ; a common brown brass Scarf Pin ; and a pair of magenta and white woollen Cuffs. Two men of the following description were seen loitering about the house : one about 20 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, slender, dark complexion and hair, thin features ; dressed in a dark overcoat and cap : the other about 17 years of age, 6 feet 1 or 2 inches high, fresh complexion. light hair, and stout; dressed in dark overcoat with velvet collar, and cap. Information to be given to Superintendent Ball, West Riding Constabulary, Bradford, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, Februaty 23. Between the hours of 8 and 9 p. m. on the 20th instant, the dwelling- house of Henry Brace, Esq., J. P., Mayfield, Walsall, was broken and entered, and the following property stolen therefrom : a black varnished leather Pocket Book, con- taining ten £ 5 Baijk of England Notes, part stamped ' Bilston Bank,' two Cheques payable to Gooda} l and Co., upon the Burton Bank, one ditto drawn by the London and Caledonian Insurance Company, payable to Henry Brace ; 12 silver Table Forks, six laig-, six small ; 18 silver Spoons, six Dessert, six Tea, one Gravy, three Salt ( marked ' R.'), two old- fashioned Table ; 2 silver Sauce Ladles, marked 4 B '; 1 Butter Knife with pearl handle ; 1 pair of silver Sugar Tongs ; a lady's gold Watch, maker Dent, London, No. 15903 ; a lady's gold Chain with pendant attached ; a gold Necklet, set in centre with blue enamel, pearl pendants attached ; a malachite Shawl Brooch ( an anchor set in silver). £ 50 ieward will be paid upon apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders and recovery of the property ; a moiety of the said reward will be paid upon conviction, without recovery of the property. Information to be given to the Chief of the Borough Police, Walsall, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, February 23. A man 35 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, well built, oval features, blotches and scrofula marks about face, dark brown hair ( cut short), no beard or whiskers ; dressed in a light- coloured witney top coat, and woollen cord trousers, is in custody at Warminster, Wilts, on suspicion of having com- mitted several burglaries, and the following property is still missing : Stolen from Bathampton House, on 7th November last: a pair of silver- gilt Candlesticks, 14 inches high ; a silver Ink Stand ; a gold Mourning Ring, large green brilliant; a silver two- wheel miniature Dog Cart ; an antique gold Ring ; three small silver- gilt Bottle Tops; an agate Casket, set in gold ; a large silver Cruet Stand ; a small silver Tea Caddy ; two silver Table Spoons ; three silver Dessert Spoons ; three 6ilver Table Forks ; a large Sugar Basin with top ; a pair of silver Sugar Tongs ; two gold Thimbles, one marked ' G. B.'; a plated Flower Glass Stand ; a revolving triangular gold Seal, with crest, ' H. A. J.,' and blue stone handle ; most of the above have the crest— a lion rampant, the remainder initials • H. A. J.' £ 30 reward. Also stolen on the 20th ultimo, the property of Mrs Young, of Bemerton ; a dozen large silver Forks ; a dozen small ditto ; five silver Table Spoons, some marked 4 F.,' others ' A.' in old English ; a dozen silver Tea Spoons, marked 4 P.'; a silver Gravy Spoon ; a silver Butter Knife ; two silver Fruit Knives, with pearl handles ; a pair of silver Sugar Tongs ; two silver Bedroom Candlesticks ; a gold Ring with hair , a large gold Brooch, containing various coloured hair, set fii form of the Prince of Wales' plume, bouud with gold wheat ears, and pearls at bottom ; a pair of silver Salt Spoons ; a Brooch with gold rim and white stone ; a Brooch with gold rim and stones to imitate diamonds; a Mourning Brooch ' In Memory of'; two gold Pencil Cases, with sliding pen ; a gold Napoleon, and several small silver Coins ; most of the silver articles have the crest— a mailed arm with a broken spear. £ 10 reward. Also stolen on the 23rd December last, from Sedge Hill House, Wilts: a silver Inkstand, crest— five battle- axos in a wreath, and initials ' G. T. B.'; a silver Bowl and Sifter, same crest; a silver Milk Pail and Ladle ; a silver Fish Slice and Fork ; two small silver Spoons and Forks for children; a Vinaigrette ; a flat silver Box, with monogram enurav. d in centre ' BAGB.'; a gold Thimble; a plain silver Thimble; a double Scent Bottle, with silver- gilt tops ; some gold and silver Coins. £ 10 reward. Also stolen on the 4th December last, from the Duke of Somerset's, Maiden Bradley : a gold and platina mixed long guard Chain ; a Seal Ring with gold Key ; eight gold Vest Buttons, twist or cable pattern. £ 10 reward. The above rewards or either of them will be paid to any person giving such information as uiay lead to the recovery of the articles and conviction of the offender or offenders, or in pro- portion to the amount recovered, on application to the Chief Constable for Wilts, Rowde, Devizes, or to Superintendent Abbott, Warminster.— Bow- street, February 23. / Further information respecting the housebreaking at Rhosucha, Merionethshire, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 5th instant : the two pairs of Trousers and the two Shirts have been recovered, having been sold at Bala by a man about 40 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, brown hair, sandy whiskers, full red face, stoutly built, and has a cast in his left eye ; dressed in fustian trousers, yellow plush waistcoat, dark cloth monkey jacket, and black jimcrow hat ; he may be found working at slate quarries, or on new lines of railway ; he is an Englishman, can speak a few words of Welsh, and is much inclined to drink. Between 10 p. m. on the 15th and 7 a. m. on the 16th inst., the shop of Mr. James Mawson, of Otley, corn and flour dealer, was broken into and entered, and the following stolen from the till, which was forced open : a £ 5 Yorkshire Bank Note, about £ 3 in Silver, consisting of 6d., 4d., and 3d.- pieces, and about £ 3 in Copper. Information to be given to Superintendent Sykes, West Riding Constabulary, Otley, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, February 19. About noon on the 16tli instant the dwelling- house of Mr. Seth Rawnsley, delver. Idle Moor, was entered during the absence of the inmates, through the cellar grate, and the following property stolen therefrom : a Sovereign ; three Shillings ; a massive gold wedding Ring ; a new silk Handker- chief, light ground, spotted in the middle and a rose at each corner ; and an old silk Handkerchief, light ground, figured with roses, has two or three holes. A man and a boy of the following description are suspected : man, about 30 years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches high ; dressed in dark cloth coat and cap, and had a dark rug over his shoulders : boy, about 12 years of age; drggsed in black cloth jacket and cap, and Q POLTCE GAZETTE February 26. corduroy trousers. Supposed stolen between the 17th and 21st instant, from Chailey Common, a grey Gelding, from 4 to 5 years old, about 13 haiids high, long tail, long rough coat, aud in fair condition, the property of Mr. A. Stolen from Brooks Farm, Stocking Pelham, Herts, on the eveniDg of the 22nd instant, the property of Mr. John Chapman, Trigg : a bay mare Welch Pony, about 13 hands high, 6 years old, black thick mane and tail, white star on forehead, and in good working condition. Information to be given to Superintendent Dance, Police Court, Tunbridge, Kent.— Bow- street, February 23. J Stolen during the night of the 21st instant, from a farm yard at Husborne Crawley, Beds, the property of Mr. Henry Smith, a bay hackney Cob, 5 years old, 14 hands high, black legs, cut tail about 15 inches long ; also a brown light cart | Mare, aged, 15 hands high, long tail, about 9 months in foal, a little white on one of the hind fetlocks, in poor condition. It is supposed that the horses were ridden by two persons to London by back roads, avoiding turnpikes, by way of Luton, THOMAS LUTON, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 9th instant, charged with stealing thirty pieces of deal Boards from Argos- hill, Rotherfield, has been committed for trial at the next Lewes Assizes.— Bow- street, February 25. Description of THOMAS WILLIAMS, alias JOHN TESTER, who absconded from his lodging in the parish of Ashburnhain, Sussex, on the 21st ultimo, charged with stealing a cotton Dress, the property of Thomas Crouch : about 25 years St. Albans Barnet, Colney, & c. ; they left Crawley between of ag6) 6 feet 6 inches light complexion, dark brown hair, a n ., ,... ii i j " - 1 hazel eyes, and dressed in a light witney coat and vest, grey cloth trousers, black billycock hat, and elastic- side boots ; he is a stone sawyer, and left Ashburnham in company with Mr. Crouch's daughter, a girl about 17 years of age. Absconded from Mosely, near Birmingham, on the 14th instant, charged with having on the 30th of March last, frauduently appropriated to his own use the sum of £ 500, the , monies of Anne Allen and others, of which he was a trustee crupper^ marked. Stolen between 2' 30 and 4 p. m. on the 22nd instant, from a dwelling- house in Manchester, the following property, viz.: a silver lever hunting Watch, with double cases, capped and jewelled in four holes, No. 32376, had a silver Guard attached, with long hollow links, and short links between, several of the long links are dinged ; a small silver Geneva Watch, very flat, white dial and gold hands, ' Cylinder Capped' on the outside of inner case, with plain silver Guard attached ; a pair of men's new elastic- side Boots; a rough drab Overcoat, with two outside pockets in skirt and one ditto in left breast, bound up the sides with braid and lined with drab twilled stuff; a pair of black cloth Trousers, nearly new ; a black cloth Cap with peak ; and a red and white cotton Handkerchief.
