C. • • Whenever it is desired that any person shou\ d Be appre- hended. and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, aud an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor EUMSt be prepaid, otherwise tiie insertion will not be made. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from the regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Mall, Loudon, S. W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. INFORMATIONS MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. On the night of the 8th instant, the body of a newly born male Child was found in the Horsa Barracks, at the back of Charles- street, Cardiff, wrapped up in'an old tffiittt pinafore, a child's old black frock, and a flour and potatoe bag. A coroner's jury have returned a verdict of ' Wilful Murder.' Information to be given to Superintendent J. Box Stockdale, Cardiff, Glamorganshire.— Bote street, February 12. On the 8th instant the dead body of a female child was found in the River Ise, near Kettering, with a band, apparently part of the band of a woman's skirt, tied tightly round the neck. An inquest was held on the body, and a wrdict of • Wilful Murder' re'urned. Ttie body has been in the water from six weeks to two months Information to be given to the Superintendent Police Office, Kettering, Northampton- shire— Bow- street, February 12. to be given to Chief Constable Jackson, Town Hall, Sheffield. — Bow- street, February 16. Stolen from the person, at the corner of Parliament- street and Bridge- street, Westminster, at the time of the Queen's passing, on the 6th instant, a gold open- faced enamelled dial duplex repeating Watch, English make, with a gold and platina Chain attached. Whoever will give such information to Murray's, 30, Cornhill, as will lead to the recovery of the watch and chain, and conviction of the offender or offenders, Bhall receive £ 20 reward.— Birw- itreet, February 12. Stolen about 1 a. m. on the 28th ultimo, from the person of Charles Warner, of Stowupland, miller, a silver hunting Watch, engine- turned, capped, lias * Charles Warner, miller, Badingham,' scratched on inside of cases with a pin, a silver Albert attached. SPENCER FORD, of Stonham, labourer, and JOHN FORD, of the 19th Regiment of Foot, are charged with the offence, by warrant ; the latter has since been appre- hended, and committed for trial at the ensuing sessions, the former is still at large : he is 26 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, fresh complexion, light brown hair, grey eyes, long visage ; dressed in ehabby dark clothes aud cap ; he has been previously convicted of felony, and has a brother living at No. 9, Bankside, London. Information to be given to the Police, Stowmarket, East Suffolk.— li< nn. § treet, February 9. ARSON AND WILFUL BURNING- About 7 p. m. on the 2Pth ultimo a fire was discovered in the stackyard of Mr. C. G. Coates, fanner, of Langton- by- Horncastle, supposed caused by an ii. cendiary, and three stacks of Coin aud one stack of Straw were wholly Consumed. £ 50 reward, in addition to the reward of £ 40 which has been offered,' will be paid bv Her Majesty'; Government to any person who will give such information aud evidence as shall lead to the discovery and conviction of the offender or offen- ders, and Sir George Grey will advise the grant of Her Majesty's gracious pardon to any accomplice, not, being the person who actually set fire to the property, who will give such evidence as shad lead to the same result. Information to be given to the Superintendent of Police, Horncastle, Lincoln- shire.— Bow street, F bruary 12. FORGERY Description of a man who presented at Messrs. Brightwen and Gilleit's, Finch- lane, City, on the 6th instant, a forged Bill for £ 888 5s. Sd„ aud who upon the forgery being detected made his escape from the office : a foreigner, speaks English imperfectly, about 40 years ot age, 6 feet 7 inches high, dark hair and mou- tache, olive coloured eyes, sallow complexion, pensive countenance ; dressed in dark clothes ; wore a false beard and moustache. Information to be given at the City Detective Police Department.— Bow- s'. rett, February 19. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON- Stolen from the person of a gentleman about 10 p. m. on the night ot the 16th instant, while at the end of Anderstaff- lane, Burton- on- Trent, an old- fashioned gold Geneva Watch, makers J. and A. Aronson, Bangor, with a thick gold Albert Chain attached, information to be given to Inspector Williams, Burton- on- Trent, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, February 19. Stolen about 8' 20 p. m. on the 13th instant, from the person of a gentleman, in Old Millgate, Manchester, a gold lever Watch, maker J. Penlington, Liverpool, No. 4857, cream coloured dial, gold bauds, had attached a gold albert Chain, gold Kej, one side a lion rampant holding a sword, and gold swivel Seal, green stone one side, black aud white the other. Any person giviug such Information as will lead to the recovery of the property aud apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders shall receive £ 3 reward, on application to Chief Constable Captain Palin, Town Hall, Kiug- street, Manchester. — Bow street, February 16. Stolen from the person of a gentleman in Sheffield, on the night of the 14th inst., a gold English lever Watch, No. 6' 028, gold dial, and engine- turned cases, and a plain gold Albert Guard, with an old spade ace Guinea attached. Information BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. •• ,. Between 10 p. m. on the 15th and 7 a. m. on the 16th inst., the shop of Mr. James Mawson, ot Otley, corn and flour dealer, was broken into and entered, aud the following stolen from the till, which was forced open : a £ 5 Yorkshire Bank Note, about £ 3 in Silver, consisting of 6d., 4d„ and 3d.- pieces, and about £ 3 in Copper. Information to be given to Superintendent Sykes, West Riding Constabulary, Otley, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, February 19. About noon on the 16th instant the dwelling house of Mr. Seth Rawnsley, delver. Idle Moor, was entered during the absence of the inmates, through the cellar grate, and - the following property stolen therefrom : a Sovereign ; three Shillings ; a massive gold wedding Ring ; a new silk Handker- chief, light ground, spotted in the middle and a rose at £ ach corner ; and an old silk Handkerchief, light ground, figured with roses, has two or three boles A man aud a boy of the following description are suspected : man, about 30 years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches high ; dressed in dark cloth coat and cap, and had a dark rug over his shoulders : boy, about 12 years of age ; dressed in black cloth jacket and cap, and corduroy trousers. Information to be given to Superintendent Ball, West Riding Constabulary, Bradford. — Bow- street, February 19. On the night of the 8th instant, the school- house at Red- berth, in the parish of Martletwy, in the county of Pembroke, was broken into and the following property stolen therefrom : five white Shirts, nearly n% iv 5 a single- breasted black Frock Coat ; a single- breasted blue Top Coat, with velvet collar ; a pair of light coloured tweed Trousers and vest ; and a gold enamel Ring, set in coral, the prbperty of Mr. Phillip Lewis, Schoolmaster. Supposed by a tramp, who may be wearing the stolen property, as the following were left behind : an old brown cap, an old faded dark jacket, old black trousers, and two legs of stockings. Information to be given to Chief Con- stable Stokes, Haverfordwest, South Wales.— Bow- street, Feb- ruary 16. During the night of the 13th instant, a shoemaker's shop in Caidiff was entered, and the following property stolen therefrom : six pairs of women's elastic- side Boots, three pairs of men's ditto, one pair of men's nailed Boots, one pair of boy's ditto, and one odd Boot. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Stockdale, Cardiff.— Bow street, February 16. On the night of the 13th instant, the shop of Mr. R. Parker, of Fakenham, was entered during his absence, by picking the lock of a back door, and the following Watches were stolen : 1 metal case Geneva, No 4225. 1 silver hunter, No. 19301. 5 silver pair case, Nos. 18228, 9529, 4574,12164, and 1079. 1 consular case, No. 11889. 1 French consular, winds up on face. 1 English consular, seconds dial, the balance broken. 1 double- bottom hunter. 1 double- bottom consular. 1 large pair case, No. 73659. 1 small French consular, winds up on face. / 1 consular lever, compensation balance, ' J. Collett' on plate. 1 old metal, painted dial, no hands or outside case. Whoever will give such information to Superintendent Blom- field, Walsingham, Norfolk, er to any Police Officer, that will lead to the conviction of the offender or offenders and recovery of the property Bhall receive / 10 reward.— Bow- street, Feb 16. Description of a man suspected of the burglary at Sedge- hill House, and advertised in the Police Gazette of the 26th ultimo, and also of- committiig several other burglaries iu Wilt- shire : 30 years of sge, 6 ft. ) ins. high, square and well built, walks erect, short stiff brown hair, little or no whiskers, round full face blotched and pock pitted, large burn or scrofula mark down one side of face, reaching under the chin ; dressed in top and undercoat, supposed to be reversible, one side light, the other dark, light- coloured woollen cord trousers, and side- spring boots ; has somewhat the appearance of having been connected with the ring, sometimes that of a cattle dealer ; is very quiet and reserved in his manner, and generally lodges at small public- bouses, such as hawkers usually stop at. Information to be given at the Chief Constable's Office, Rowde, Devizes, Wilts. — Bow- street, February 16. Between 7 and 8 p. m. on the 8th instant, the warehouse of W. H. Howorth, Esq., at No. 8, Heaton- street, Blackburn, was broken and entered, and 29 lbs. of Gold Plate on bobbins, in 1 lb. brown paper parcels, with ' B. C.' marked thereon, the whole wrapped in one parcel of brown paper, stolen there- from. The gold plate is used for heading calico cloth in weaving. Whoever will give such information as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders will receive £ 5 reward, on application to Chief Constable Joseph Potts, Town Hall, Blackburn, Lancashire.— Bow- street, February 12. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Description of a young man who hired a bay nag Mare, 15 hands high, rising 6 years old, blister mark under the throat, a small lump on the near shoulder on which the hair does not grow, a saddle, in good condition, a double rein bridle the head of bittoon bit having been mended, also a catgut riding Whip, mounted with silver wire, the property of II. W. Taylor, livery stable keeper, Oxford, to go for an hour's ride, on the afternoon of the 14th instant, and has absconded with the same : he is known by the name of PARKER, about 22 years of age, about 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, and slight moustache ; dressed in a black frock coat, high crown hat ; states he is a member of the medical profession, and is traveling the country with a man calling himself Professor Russell, who is about 50 years of age, stout made, frequents market towns, selling some- thing to cure corns, and the toothache ; he has a wife, two daugbtei' 3, and two sons, one about 20 years of age, who sells similar articles, . as the father, the other about 3 years of age. The man Parker is paying his addresses to the youngest daughter, they are well known in Aylesbury, Bucks, and Thame, Oxon. Information to be given to Mr. Lucas, Town Hall, Oxford, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, Feb. uary 19. Found on Eversley Common, Hants, on the 2nd instant' and supposed to have been stolen ; a chesnut mare Pony, about 12 hands high, white star on forehead, in low condition, shod all round. Information to be given to Superintendent Howard, Hants Constabulary, Aldershot.— Bow- street, February 19. Absconded from Luton, on the 13th instant, charged with stealing a Sheep, THOMAS COX, labourer, about 45 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, stout make, dark brown hair and whiskers, full . face, sallow complexion, rather flat nose, and stoops ; dressed in dark brown coat and vest cord trousers, and black cap : he is very much addicted to drinking. Information to be given to Superintendent S. Pope, Luton, Beds, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- st., Febiuary 16. Supposed to have been stolen from a meadow in Catteshall- lane, Godalming, Surrey, on the night of the 13th instant, the property of Mr. J. H. Brown, wine merchant, a dark chestnut Mare, aged, 13 hands high, long mane and tail, a white stripe down the forehead, aud one hind fetlock white ; also a bay Colt, rising 3 years old, about 14 hands high, white star on forehead, and black legs : both horses are iu good condition. Information to be given to Superintendent Burt, Borough Police Office, Godalming, Surrey, who will pay all reasonable expenses.— Bow- street, February 16. Found on the 19th ultimo, supposed to have been stolen, and. now at the ' Rose and Crown ' public- house, Wandsworth, a dark brown mare Pony, 13 hands high, grey hairs about head, white spot between nostrils, in low condition, no shoes, bridle on.— Metropolitan Police, V Division, February 14. Supposed to have been stolen from a farmyard in the borough of Stamford, on the night of the 12th instant, the property of Mr. George Bunney, a dark brown Cob, 5 years old, 14J hands high, rat tail, light brown nose, small sand crack on inside of each fore foot, and recently shod. i,' 12 12s. reward will he paid to any person who shall give such infor- mation as will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders and recovery of the horse. Information to be given to Superintendent Ward, Stamford, Lincolnshire.— Bow- street, February 14. Stolen from a crewe yard, belonging to Mr. J. Burgess, of Edenham, Lincolnshire, during the night of the 26th ultimo, a small thick light brown Mare, between a cob and cart mare, about 14 hands high, rising 3 years old, very short mane ( caused by rubbing^, long switch tail, white star on forehead with narrow streak of white at bottom ot same, white off hind heel, answers to the name of ' Diamond '; also a buff Halter with leather reins, bit jointed in the middle. Has been traced through Retford, Scrooby, Doncasterto Long Hack worth, near Pontefract, West Riding of Yorkshire, in the possession of a man, 22 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, muscular made, dark complexion, black hair cut short behind, small black whiskers meeting under chin ; dressed in dark velveteen coat, long dark vest with white buttons down the front, tight cotton cord trousers, strong half boots with heavy soles, dirty black cloth cap with piak, and had the appearance of a potter: he joined a party of gipsies and potters who bad eight or nine horses in their possession, and had been encamping about nackworth, Wintbridge, snd Hardwick, near Pontefract. They lelt that locality on or about the 30th ultimo. Information to he given to Superintendent Pidgeon Police Station, Bourn, Lincolnshire— Boio- street. February 14. Absconded from Alvechurch, Worcestershire, on the 1st ultimo, charged upon n warrant with stealing six Sheep the property of Mr. John Alfred William", his master : JAMES ARCHER ahout GO years of age, 5 feet C or 7 inches high, light brown curly hair, large bushy whiskers meeting under chin aud turning grey, long hooked nose reaching nearly to his mouth, and very small eyes, walks clumsily as lie is splay footed, and has the appearance of a rough navvy or drover; dresses in breeches and generally leather leggings which fit ti » ht to the lego. Is supposed to be known in the neighbour- hood of Bridgnorth and in Wales. Information to be given to Superintendent Humphries, King's Heath, near Birmingham, who will pay all reasonable expenses upon his apprehension.— Bow- streei, February 12. Supposed stolen from a field at Alverthorpe, during the night or the 2ud instant, ihe property of Mr. Robert Broad- bent butcher, of Wakefield, - 3 fat Ewes, of the Yorkshire Woolds breed, marked with three led dots on the rumps, and one with two dots of blue on the back. £ 1 reward will be paid by Mr. Robert Broadbent, to anv person or persons giving such information to Superintendent Hall, West Riding Con- stabulary, Wakefield, as will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the ottender.- Bow- street, February 0. During the ni- ht of the 0th instant, a half- bred Ram was killed while pasturing in a field at Bolton, in the occupation of John Bankart, Esq., and the carcass and skin was after- wards carried away. The ram was marked with red ruddle on the left hind quarter, and the letter ' B.' in tar on the libs of near side, and the wool will have a smutty appearance from the effects of smoke. A reward of £ 10 will be paid by Mr. Bankart to any person giving such information as will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Superintendent Ball, West Riding Constabulary, Bradford.- Low- street, February 9. LARCENY AND EMSEZZLE. MEKT Description of a young man who absconded from his lodgings in Beaconsfield, Bucks, on the 15th instant, charged with stealing a Watch, which has since been found pledged in the name ot Gardener : he is about 20 years of age, 6 feet 4 or 5 inches high, dark brown hair, fresh complexion, round featuies. no whiskers; dressed in a black felt French hat, grey overcoat, dark cloth trou: ers; and old side spring boots ; states he is a printer, and a native of Pembroke, to which place he is most likely gone. Information to be given to Inspector Hall, Beaconsfield, Bucks.— Bow- street, February 19. Stolen on the 13th instant, from No. 37, Brompton- road, the sum of 10s.: By a lad, 16 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, fresh complexion, dark hair and eyes ; dressed in a short drab'coat pockets behind, dark trousers and cap.— Metropolitan Police, B Division, February 19. Stolen on the 14; h instant, from No. 56, Rathbone- plac?, Oxford- street, the sum of £ 4 3s. 6d. : By a man, 20 years of age, 5 feet ( i inches high, fair complexion, brown hair, and Ion" features ; dressed in a brown striped . coat, cord trousers, and" 5 black cap .— Metropolitan Police, E Division. February 19. Stolen on the 13th instant, from No. 2, Eton- terrace, Haverstock- hill, a fancy gilt Clotk, with figures representing, angels on top, maker Burton, 39, Oxford- street ; by two men of " the following description, one, 35 years of age, 6 feet 9 inches high, dark complexion, hair, and whiskers ; dressed in dark clothes aud black hat.— Metropolitan Police, S Division, February 19. Stolen on the 12th instant, from the ' Oak ' public- house, Maple- road, Surbiton, the sum of £ 4 : by a maD, 23 years of 5 feet 4 inches high, dark hair and complexion, and belongs to the 3rd Surrey Militia ; dre- sed in dark coat and trousers.— Metropolitan Police, V Division, February 19. Description of JAMES SMITH, alias STAMPING JIMMY, late of Market Rasen, drover, who absconded on the 11th instant charged with embezzling the sum of £ 4 5s., the property of his master, William Procter: about 45 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, fresh complexion, dark brown hair and thin whi- kers, small eyes, walks flat- footed and stoops when walking, his ancles are weak and he appears to have but little use in tr. eia, wears bandages from his knees to his ancles, hands deformed and drawn inwards ; dressed in white billycock hat with black hand, short smock buttoned down the front, woollen cord trousers mended on front of legs with cotton cord of smaller rib, and strong lace- up boots nearly new. A reward of £ 1 Is. will be paid by the said William Procter, and a further reward of £ 1 Is. by the Market Rasen Association, to any person or persons giving su<; h information as may lead to the apprehension of the offender. Information to be given to Superintendent Barsby, Market Rasen, Lincolnshire.— Bow- street, February 19. Absconded on the 6th instant, charged with embezzling £ 57 9-!. 9d., the moneys of Mr. Adams, Hosier- lane, JAMES DOVEY, warehouseman, 38 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, dark brown hair, dark eyes and complexion, slight moustache, no whiskers ; dressed in brown overcoat, speckled trousers, red and black flannel shirt, brown cotton drawers, brown tie, paper collar, and sidespring boots. Information to be given to the Inspector on duty, Smithfield Station, London, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, February 16. Description of JAMES BATTYE, who absconded on the 16th ultimo, from Bradford, charged with embezzlement: about 3S years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, slight, but well built, rather bald, brown hair, moustache, and whiskers, thin face, sallow complexion, prominent dark eyes ; generally dressed in a blue pilot monkey jacket with horn buttons, figured woollen shirt, and billycock hat. He is a good cricket and billiard player, and it is supposed that he will endeavour to leave for America or Australia. A warrant has been issued for his apprehension, and £ 25 reward will be paid for such information as shall lead to his apprehension, on application to Chief Con- stable Grauhan, Bradford.— Bow- street, February 16. Description of JAMES GWILLIAM, of Michaelchurch- Eskley, Herefordshire, who is bailed for trial at the next Hereford Quarter Sessions, on a charge of stealing four Pigs ; it is suspected that he is about to leave the country, and a warrant has been issued for his apprehension : he is about 25 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, dark hair, and small whiskers round chin, dark complexion, rather keen eyes ; dressed either in a billy hat, dark velveteen jacket and vest, washed cord trousers, aud strong lace- up boots, or in dark cloth jacket, vest, and trousers. He is accompanied by a woman passing as his wife, about 19 years of age, stout, and fresh look- ing ; generally dresses in a dark cloak. She has three brothers in America, where it is supposed they are going. Information to be given to the Superintendent of Police, Weobly, or to Police Sergeant Davies, Whitney, Herefordshire.— Bow- street, February 16. Description of GEORGE WHARMBY, charged with stealing from the dwelling- house of James Chadwick, at New Mills, Derbyshire, on the night of the 10th instant, a Jacket, Vest, and pair of Trousers, all red or brown woollen cloth ; and a satin Handkerchief with white plaid stripes : he is about 20 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, walks very slovenly, is a miner, and is supposed to have gone to Silverdale, Stafford- shire, to work at sonde tunnel. Information to be uiven to the Superintendent of Police, Chapel- en- le- Frith, Derbyshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, February 16. Stolen on the 9th instant, from No. 129, Mount- street, Berkeley- s quare, the two sides ot a gold Head Ornament, about, U inch wide at centre, tapering off, set with diamonds forming roses and leaves. By a man, about 21 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high ; dressed in dark clothes.— Metropolitan Police, C Dicision, February 14. Absconded on the 30th ultimo, charged with embezzling the sum of £ 381, the moneys of Me.- srs. Charles Macintosh and Co., indiarubber mauuf cturers, Cannon- street West, his em- ployers, and a warrant has been granted for his apprehension : JAMES CAMPBELL, late a collector, about 35 years ot age, 5 feet 6 inches high, light hair and eyes, fair complexion, and small sandy beard; dressed respectably; resided up to the time of his absconding at No. 28, Esmond- road, Grove- road, Victoria ParK. Information to be given to Inspector Hamilton, City of London Police, Detective Office, No. 26, Old Jewry, London, E. C.— Bow- street, February 14.
