Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the pur- pose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or fltolen property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference ie the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to MR. W. D. BURNABY, the Editor, Police Court, Bow- street, London, W. C. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from the regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Mall, London, S. W.," as they cannot be published withouV'tt* authority. INFORMATIONS MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. Description of fREDERICK SYMONS, a biicklyayer, a native of King's Lynn, Norfolk, who absconded from Wis- beach on the 30th ultimo, after causing the death of Charles George Rutherford ; an inquest was held on the 8th instant, and a verdict of ' Manslaughter' was relumed. lie is about 23 years ot age, 5 ftet 3 inches high, light hair, no whiskers, light complexion, thin pale face, hollow cheeks; dresses ui a bricklayer, and sometimes wears a blue monkey jacket and Scotch cap with ribbon behind. Information to be given to Head Constable Eason, Wisbeach, Isle of Ely, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, January 10. Between 0 a. ui. and 3 p. m. ou the 1- lth instant, Edward Edwards, of Dudlick, near Stottesdoii, Salop, was found, in Dudlick Mill, murdered and lobbed of a morocco leather Pocket Book, containing a Memorandum Book and about £ 3 10s. in Gold and Silver. £ 50 rewaitf is offered to any person giviDg such information as thall lead to the conviction of the murderer or murderers. Information to be given to Chief Constable Cureton, Shrewsbury, or to Superintendent McWilliam, Bridgnorth, Salop.— Bow- street, January 19. On the night of the 8th ultimo Police Constable Enoch Augustus Hooper was killed, while on duty at Willenhall, Staffordshire, by being stabled in the breast with a large knife or sharp instrument, and whereas at an inquest held by ad- journment at Willenhall, ou the 2nd instant, before \ V. H. Phillips, Esq., Deputy Coroner, a verdict of ' Wilful Murder against Patrick Cain, Patrick Ruan, and Owen O'Donnell' was returned, aud the two latter have absconded : a reward of £ 100 will be paid by Her Majesty's Government to any person or persons who shall ( iive such information as shall ead to thtir apprehension. PATRICK RUAN, about 26years of age, 5 feet ( 5 or 7 inches high, dark hair, small whiskers, long features, appears weak in the loins when walking; dressed in corduroy jacket and trousers, white slop, moleskin vest and dark cloth cap with peak. OWEN O'DONNELL, about 20 years of age, 5 feet 11 inches high, stout made, fat chubby face, large heavy limbs, light complexion, light brown hair, small whiskers, a sore ou one leg ; dressed in blue pilot jacket, dark vest, and moleskin trousers. They are labourers, and natives of the County Mayo, Ireland. Information to be given at the Chief Constable's Office, Stafford; to Major McKnight, Deputy Chief Constable, Westbromwich ; or at any Police Office in the County.— Bow- street, January 17. On the 8th instaut the body of a full grown female child was found in the River Avon, in the parish of Harvington, Worcestershire, it was enclosed in the leg of a man's stocking, and is supposed to have been dead about a fortnight. A coroner's inquest was held, and a verdict of ' Wilful Murder against some person or persons unknown ' was returned. In- formation to be given to Superintendent Harris, Pershore, Worcestershire.— Bow- street, January 12. The body of a newly- born female Child was found on the doorstep of a dwelling- house in Sheffield, on the evening of the 9th instant, wrapped in part of an old green plaid Btuff skirt. At a coroner's inquest, held on the following day, a verdict of ' Wilful Murder against some person or persons unknown' was returned. Information to ba given to Chief Constable Jackson, Sheffield.— Bow- street, January 12. Fe ARSON AND WILFUL BURNING- About 7 30 p. m. on the 9th instant, a clover stack in a field at Fenwick was found to he on fire, and a hay and a bsrley straw stack were completely destroyed. Supposed by an in- cendiary. Also, about, 1 ISO p. m. on the 13th instant, the stack yard of Henry TonKinson, North Elmsall, was discovered to be on fire, whertbv four Stacks ( one barley, two wheat, and one bean,) were entirely destroyed. Supposed by an incendiary. Information to be given to Superintendent Hall, West Riding Constabulary, Pontefract, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, January 17. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON- Stolen on the night of the 13th instant, from the person in Macclesfield, an English made gold lever Watch, gold dial, maker Thomas Warburton, No. 64911, has ' Saml. P. Tonle,' engraved on the cap inside, had attached a lady's thin gold Guard twisted like a rope. £ 6 reward will be given to any person giving such information as will lead to the conviction of the offender or offenders, and recovery of the Watch and Guard. Information to be given to Superintendent Etchells Macclesfield.— Bow- street, January 22. On the 17th instant, between 7 and 8 p. m., Mr. Arthur Battley was assaulted on the highway leading from Fornham, All Saints, to Bury St. Edmunds, and robbed of a gold Watch, white face, a piece broken of the right hand edge, ' W. Ray' on the plate, No. 45120, with a gold Albert Chain and Seal attached ; a stereoscopic View of Christ's Sermon on the Mount; a plain gold Pin, with one diamond in the centre ; a gold Toothpick ; a leather folding Purse, without elastic, con- taining about 8s. Cd. in Silver, a bent Half Sovereign, aud an American Dollar. A light drabbet drover's coat was found on the road a short distance from where the robbery took place. Information to be given to Inspector Roberts, Bury St. Edmunds, Suffolk.— Bow- street, January 22. Stolen on the 18th instant from a gentleman, in Com- mercial- street, Spitalfields, a gold double case Watch, maker Roskill, Liverpool, a gold curb Chain and two large gold Seals attached, one plain stone, the other cornelian engraved ' E. M. C.' By a man, 21 years of age, 6 feet o inches high, stout made, fair complexion, no whiskers ; dressed in light coat and low- crowned hat. - Metropolitan Police, H Division, January 22. Desciiption of a man who has absconded from Barnsley, charged with stealing from the person, about 2 p. m. on the 18th instant, a lady's gold lever Watch, with gold dial, gold chased edge, round bow, and consular case, maker Thomas Allen, Barnsley, No. 94470 : about 25 years of age, 5 feet 2 or 3 inches high, pale complexion, dark hair, no whiskers, pimples on face ; diessed in black cloth coat, black nccktie with red spots in it, silk hat, and supposed to have a waterproof overcoat on his arm. £ 2 reward is offered for the the recovery of the watch and conviction of the offender. Information to be given to the Superintendent of Police, Barnsley, Yoikshire.— Bow- street, January 19. Supposed to have been stolen from the person of George Dobb, at Tong Street, at 11 p. m. on the 8th instant, a silver lever Watch, c » pped and jewelled, engine- turned cases, maker Charles Snowden, London, No. 10922, and ' F. P. W.' stamped on the swivel ; and a Pocket Knife with two blades, one of which is broken, has a black and white bone haft. Informa- tion to be given to Superintendent Ball, Court House, Brad- ford.— Bow- street, January 12. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. During the niglit of the 14th instant, the outfitters shop of Mr. Hill, Church- street, West Hartlepool, was entered by a skeleton key, aud the following property stolen : 36 woollen Shirts, various colours. 5 pairs of gentlemen's merino Pants. 4 pairs of Scotch wool Pants. 10 gentlemen's merino Vests. 36 pairs of Socks and Stockings, grey mixture colour. 1 black witney Overcoat, and 1 black cloth shooting Coat, with name on collars. 2 black cloth Vests. 1 pair of artillery Trousers and Jacket. 1 piece of Oxford deer skin Cloth. 1 piece of black Superfine. 1 piece of blue Cloth. I piece of black Cloth, double width. 3 or 4 pieces of fancy Trousering. 3 boxes of silk Handkerchiefs, various colours. 1 box of black sam Scarfs. A quantity of coloured Scarfs. 5 bundles of black and coloured kid Gloves. 3 silk Hats, man's size. Also during the same night, a marine storedealer's shop was broken and entered, at Middleton, near West Hartlepool, and two silver patent lever Watches, Nos. 22355, 4736, one silver verge Watch, two letters engraved on outside cases, 5 silver tea Spoons, marked 4 D.,' 10s. 6d. in Silver, aud a pair of jet Ear- rings. Information to be given to Superintendent Davidson, Durham County Constabulary, West Hartlepool.— Bow- street, Jan. 22. During the night of the 19th instant the dwelling house of Captain Knight, Teckells, Frimley, Surrey, was broken and entered, and the following property stolen therefrom: 3 Table- cloths, marked ' D. C. Kitchen 4 C. R. K.'; 10 table Napkins, marked ' C. R. IC. 6. 1865 ; 6 brown linen kitchen Cloths, marked ' C. R. K.'; 3 or 4 yards of coarse Linen for dish cloths ; 2 white Aprons, marked ' H. S. 6.'; and a small shepherd's plaid Shawl. James: 1 large chased gold Seal, with an amethyst, engraved with a bird struggling against the bars of a cage, and the words ' I can't get out.' 2 large oval silver Dishes, rsyal aims in centre. 2 oval Pie Dishes, crest outside— lion's head with cockle- shell in paw. 1 large square silver Pickle Stand, to hold four large glasses, crest— a lion's head with- eockle- shell in paw. 1 small oval silver Pie Dish, with erest outside— lion's head. 2 large oval silver Dishes, with the royal arms in the centre. 1 child's small silver Mug. 2 gold Shirt Studs. 2 gold Sleeve Studs. 1 large Russia leather Pocketbook, containing £ 22 5s. 10d, in Notes and Gold. 1 £ 5 Note, stained with red, i& sr.~ J ~'*) out 1841 or 1842. 1 £ 10 Note, 1 £ 5 Note, 12 Sovereigns, about £ 5 in Gold and Silver, and a number ot old and new Coins. Information to be given to Superintendent Creasey. Yoxford, or at the Police Station, Aldborough, Suffolk.— Bow- street, January 22. During the night of the 19th instant, the dwelling- house of Mr. Henry Richardson, of Key& sham, Somerset, was broken and entered, and the following property stolen therefrom : an old- fashioned silver Cream Jug, stands on four small round feet; twelve very small old- fashioued silver Tea Spoons, chased edges, marked with two letters ; six silver ditto, plain, marked ' W. J. A.' in old English ; a silver Table Spoon, same mark ; four silver Salt Spoons; a pair of silver Sugar Tongs; two pairs coftack Boots, one pair new, the other about half worn out; a long blue Overcoat, with black silk covered buttons, a pocket outside for railway tickets, lined with light plaid lining; a black cloth Overcoat, lined with blue lining ; and £ 5 in Gold. Information to be given to Superintendent Emson, Somerset Constabulary, Temple Cloud.— Bow- street, January 22. On the 16th instant, between 3 and 10 p. m., the dwelling- house of Jessy Drury, of Swaby, near Alford, was broken into, and the following articles stolen therefrom : 1 black cloth Jacket, two pockets outside, one inside left breast, aud about half worn. 1 pair of black cloth Trousers. 1 black cloth Vest, buttons up to the throat. 1 plaid Vest. 1 pair of Short Wellington Boots, a small strip of red leather round the top of each boot inside, part worn. 2 pairs of grey worsted Stockings. 1 gold wedding Ring, a little bent. Supposed by a man about 24 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, light complexion and hair, little or no whiskers ; dressed- in a black cloth coat, the back in one piece, a pocket ou each side, blue trousers, a dark woollen shirt, no vest. Another man was in his company, and has been apprehended, hut none of the stolen articles have been found. Information to be given to be given to Inspector Groom, Police Station, Alford^ Lincoln- shire.— Bow- street, January 22. During the night of the 15th instant, the shop of Mr. E. Jennings, grocer, of Fowler- street, in the borough of South Shields, was entered by skeleton keys, and stolen therefrom : £ 3 in Copper, and 3 or 4 lbs. of shag Tobacso, put up in packages, viz, two J lbs. and the remainder 2 oa, 1 oz. and £ oz. and about 1 lb. of twist, the shag Tobacco was wrapped in blue paper, aud labelled ' E. Jennings.' Information to be given to Chief Constable Richardson, Borough Police, South Shields.— Bow- street, January 19. Stolen from a house at Taunton, between 6 and 7 p. m. on the 14th instant, during the absence of the occupants, by forcing the front door with a ' jenimy,' J. in. wide * ' 1 lady's gold Geneva Watch. 1 gold guard Chain, Eyeglass atiached. 1 gold Brooch, with pendant, != af pattern, set in turquoise 1 gold Necklet. 1 round gold Brooch, carbuncle centre, hair at back, 2 gold mourning Brooches, hair centre. 1 gold Brooch, white stone, hair centre. 1 cornelian Brooch, gold Onyx centre. 4 small sleeve Brooches. 1 gold stone Brooch, set in silver. 8 gold Rings : one diamond, one opal and diamond, one mourning, onyx forget- me- not, one set in pearls, emeralds in black enamel, one tuiquoise, one carbuncle, one with three carbuncles, one garnet. 1 hair Ring, set in gold, initials ' T. VY. F.' 1 gold hair Ring, centre pearls. 1 gold breast Pin, twisted head. 1 aluminum Brooch and 2 Buckles. 1 gold and 2 silver Thimbles. 1 tortoiseshell Portmouuaie, initials ' L. A. During the night of the I2th instant, a grocer's shop in Cardiff was broken and entered, and stolen therefrom : a Cash Box containing a Cheque Book, soiy. e Stamps and Papers, about £ 5 in Coppers, £\ in Silver, and from 10 to 12 lis. of Tobacco, made up in half quartern, aud each stamped ' Biggs * POLICE,- GAZE/ PIE. The bursars will probably proceed to a si iport for the purpose of emigrating, aud theie d'ispose of the watch and exchange the notes. Information to be given to the Chief Constable of Forfarshire, Forfar.— Bow- street, January 15. During the night of the 10th instant, the dwelling- house of G. F. Birch, Esq., J. P, Clare Park, Croudall, Hants, was broken and entered, and the following property stolen there- from : ten or twelve Table Napkins, marked ' 1859— G. 1' Birch — 36a Tablecloth ; an Antimacassar, white crochet ; a silver Tea Spocui ; a silver Sugar Sifter ; a silver wine Label, • Madeira a silver Shell for measuring tea, crest— ft serpent entwined round a fleur- de- lis; a large Bread Knife, wooden handle, with ears of corn cirved on it; also a small quantity of Tea and Sugar. £ 10 reward will be given for information that will lead to the- conviction of the offender or offenders. Fowle, watchmaker, Uckfield, Sussex, was broken and entered, and some Provisions and two small Pots of Jam stolen therefrom. Information to be given to Police Constable James Newnham, Uckfield, or at any Police Station in East Sussex. — Bow- street, January 12. EOR. 3E AND CATTLE STEALING. Supposed stolen from a field at Handsworth, on the night of the 17th instant, a brown mare Pony, about, fi years old, 12J hands high, very rough coat, White saddle ( mark on the back, has been torn by a nail on the near slrouhler, and in good condition. Information to be given to Sergeant Richards, Handsworth, Staffordshire.— Bom- strest, January 22. Absconded from Whitcroft, Westdean, charged with stealing a ewe Sheep, the property af William Vaughan : GEORGE and ISAAC HOOK; George Hook is about 44 years of age, 6 feet 7? iuches high, fresh complexion, oval visage, brown hair, grey eyes, near sighted, stout- made, and is a convicb on licence ; dressed in a bbick bowler hit, gray coit, and old1 black cloth trousers ; Isaac Hook is about 30 years of ageT 5 teet 7 inches high, fresh complexion, oval visage, brown hair and whiskers ; dressed in a du ty flannel jacket., and new black cloth trousers fitting very, tight. They are both coal miners, and natives of Whitcroft, Westdean. Information to be given to Superintendent White; Coleford, Gloucestershire. — Bow- street, January 22. Supposed stolen from the Henley- in- Arden Railway, on the let instant, a light brown Horse, about 13 or 1- 1 hands high, white saddlo mark on. the off side, star on forehead, turns out the near fore foot, long tail, and in low condition. Infor- mation to be given to inspector Harris, Henley- in- Arden, Warwickshire.— Bow- street,. January 19. Supposed stolen in the parish of Digliy, between the 11th ultimo, and 9th instant, 9 lamb Hogs, ' G. R.' branded on the near side. If stolen £ 10 reward will be given by Mr. Richard- son, of Stixwould, to any person who will givi; such informa- tion as will lead to the conviction of the of lender or Offenders. Supposed stolen on the 7th instant, from Munden Park, a dark brown thick Pony, aged, black mane and tail, long rough coat, and low back. Supposed stolen on the 24th ultim >, from ' a field in the parish of Burwash, a grey Pony, aged, about 13 hahdS high, and rather low in condition. Information to be given at the Chief Office, Lewes; to Deputy Chief Constable Thompson, Battle ; or to Sergeant W. Pocock, Burwash, Slissex.— Bow street, January 15. Stolen between 7 and 8 p. m. on the 12th in9tant, from the ' Queen's Arms' inn, Cowden, the property of Thomas Gilritt, a brown cob Mare, 14 hands high, 7 years old, white star on forehead, and black mane and tail; and a spring Cart, painted brown, with owner's n^ me 011 it. Suppose 1 by two men, one in a blue guernsey, who were seen going in the direction of London. Information to be given to Superintendence Dance, Police Court, Tunbridge, Kent.— Bow- sireet, January 15.- Supposed stolen on the 28th ultimo; from' Hounslow, a black horse Pony, 12^ hands high, saddle marked, rough coat, and in good condition.— Metropolitan Police, T Division, January 12. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Stolen on the 14th ins'ant, from 66, Old Kent- road, an old- fashioned silver Watch, maker Barwise and Mitchell, Cockermouth. By a shoeblack, 15 years of age, sleepy look- ing ; dressed in a black frock coat, cord trousers, and cap.— Metropolitan Police, P Division, January 22. Stolen on the 15th instant, from 3, Harden- st., Battersea : I set of Fireirons ; 1 Rug ; 1 swing Looking Glass; 1 Blanket; 1 calico Sheet; and 1 coloured Counterpane. By a male and female: the male 25 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, fair complexion ; dressed in a brown coat and trousera, and stitched hat ; the female 5 feet 2 inches high, and dark complexion ; dressed in a brown stuff frock, and violet and black bonnet.- Metropolitan Police, W Division, January 22. Stolen on the 15th instant, from No. 13, Homer- street, Marylebone: a Blanket, a patchwork Quilt, two calico Sheets, a linen ditto, aud two flock Pillows. Description of HENRY WILLIAM WALKER, a journeyman baker, charged with larceny : 28 years of age, 6 feet 8 inches high, dark complexion, hair, and eyes, slight cas- t in left eye, small Muck whiskers ; dressed when last apen, in an old black coat, black hat ( nearly new), black waistcoat and trousers, and laca- up boots. Stolen between 11- 30 p. m. on the 17th and 6 30a. m on | the 18th instant, from No. 38, Church street, Croydon : a silver J Geneva Watch, a black Overcoat, and 18s. in Money.
