W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. INFORMATIONS. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. Description of JAMES O'CONNELL, who absconded from Batley on the 13th instant, charged ( with two others in custody) with manslaughter: IB years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, fresh looking, grey eyes, light curly hair, and slender build ; drewed in a black cloth suit, and black cap; he is a native of Mayo, Ireland, and will probably apply for work in a woollen mill. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Martin, West Riding Constabulary, Dewsbury, who holds a coroner's warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, February 20. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the person of a gentleman, on the 13th instant, at the Railway Station, St. Ives, a large double- cased fold lever Watch, No. 1016, the bow was wrenched off. nformation to be given to Superintendent A. Brown, St. Ives, Hunts.— Bow- street, February 17. Stolen from a lady, whilst at the Halifax Railway Station, about 5 p. m. on the 14th instant, a Portemonnaie, containing a £ 50 Bank of England Note, O Z 73205, Leeds, 24th July, 1861 ; also a few settled Notes, ' Mrs. Hinchcliffe to .' Any person giving such information as will lead to the recovery of the note and conviction of the offender to. Superintendent Pearson, Town Hall, Halifax, will receive £ 6 reward.— Bow- street, February 17. Stolen from the person on the 12th instant, at Bridlington, in the East Riding of Yorkshire, two Half- crowns. By a man, 30 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, fair complexion, light whiskers ; dressed in bluck cap, fustian coat and trousers, white shirt or slop, and strong lace- up boots. Information to .' ie given to Superintendent B. E. Naylor, Police Station, Bridlington, Yorkshire.— Bow street, February 15. About 9.40 p. m. on the 10th instant, George Edgely was attacked by three men, on the turnpike road near Tempsford, ds, and robbed of £ 12 10s. in Gold, £ 1 13s. 6d. in Silver, oilver Twopenny- piece with a hole in it, and a wash- leather double purse, about 6 inches by 4 inches : one of the men is about 30 years of age, short, stout, and full face ; dressed in a rather short fustian coat, and dark cap. The other two were about 30 years of age, 6 feet 9 or 10 inches high ; dressed in fustian or light velveteen coats, and caps. They all had the appearance of navvies. Edgely stabbed one of his assailants, and it is supposed that he is severely wounded, and the blood was traced about a mile along the road towards Girtford. In- formation to b » given to Deputy Chief Constable W. B. Graham, Bedford, or to Superintendent Jebbet, Biggleswade. — Bow- street, February 13, BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Absconded from Royston on the 20th instant, charged with burglary, a man of the following description : supposed to be a native of Baldock, Herts, when a boy was a chimney sweep, has since been abroad, and is supposed to have served in the Army and Navy ; about 38 or 40 years of age, 6 feet 8 inches high, slender make, long face, large Roman nose, face very mucli freckled, straight black hair, has a gruff voice, supposed to be occasioned by a wound in his throat, and both arms tattooed ; dressed in dark clothes and cap: has been recently discharged from gaol, and is supposed to be making his way into Essex or one of the adjoining counties. The stolen property has been recovered, and traced to his possession. Any person apprehending him will receive £ 2 reward, by applying to the Superintendent of Police, Royston, Herts.— Bow- street, February 22. During the night of the 20th instant the dwelling- house of Mr. Benjamin Davies, of Broadwas, near Worcester, was broken and entered, and a Cheque- book, Worcester Old Bank ; a silver Pocket- knife with pearl handle ; three or four Sove- reigns ; an Australian Sovereign ; a pair of gold hoop Ear- rings; - an octagon rosewood double action Concertina in rosewood case ; and a Surgical Instrument used for glisters, stolen there- from. Information to be given to Superintendent J. Phillips, County Police Office, Worcester.— Bow- street, February 22. Between 12 p. m. on the 16th and 6 a. m. on the 17th inst., the house of John Vouseden, baker and eating- house keeper, No. 97, Week- street, Maidstone, was broken and entered, and the ^ following property stolen therefrom : a German silver Watch, maker French, the glass is broken, and a piece chipped off the side of the figure ' 4 ' ; about 16s. in Silver and 5s. in Copper ; 8 lbs. of roast Beef; a part of a German Sausage ; 1J lb. of Cheese ; 1 lb. of Butler ; a pair of Balmoral Boots, half soled ; a pair of white- handled Razors, in a small flat Case lined with silk. Information to be given to Mr. John Barnes, Chief of Police, Maidstone, Kent.— Bow- street, Feb- ruary 20. During the night of the 6th instant, the dwelling- house of J. F. Moon, at Netley Cliff, was broken into, and the following property stolen therefrom : a plated Coffeepot, a Teapot, a Cream Jug, and two Salt Cellars, all marked ' E. 400 S.'; six Egg Spoons, marked ' E. 1856 S'; 2 Salt Spoons, marked • E. 1854 S.'; a Butter Cooler, marked ' 4001 E.'; a new dark cloth Coat and Trousers, and a light Waistcoat. Information to be given to Superintendent Stannard, Hants Constabulary, Bitterne.— Bow- street, February 17. Stolen on the morning on the 11th instant, by means of housebreaking, from Carlogie House, parish of Panbride, For- farshire, the residence of A. Cunningham, Esq.,: 1 gold Geneva Watch, gold dial ( loose), hand wanting; 6 silver Dinner Spoons, plain pattern, marked ' A. C.'; 4 ditto ditto, 2 Dessert ditto, marked ' F.'; 1 ditto child's Cup, marked' Charles'; 12 Dinner Forks, 6 Dessert Forks, 5 Egg Spoons, 1 Soup Divider, 1 Fish Knife and Fork, all plated, and marked ' C.'; 1 child's plated Cup, handle broken. Information to be given to the Procurator Fiscal of Forfarshire, Dundee, or to the Chief Con- stable of Forfarshire, Forfar.— Bow- strect, February 17. On the evening of the 12th instant, the dwelling house of Miss Butler, New Shoreham, Sussex, was entered by means of skeleton keys, and the following property stolen : 1 gold Bracelet, shape of band, fastened with a slide, and a small piece of gold chain attached ; 1 ditto ditto, set with turquoise, with heart attached ; 1 imitation gold ditto, set with coloured heads in lava ; 2 gold ditto, with green stones, 1 diamond Ring ; 1 pearl ditto, ' Ridley ' inside ; 1 ditto ditto, marked ' M. B.'; 1 gold ditto, green stone in shape of a heart ; 1 blue ditto, turquoise, ' Forget- me- not'; 1 pearl ditto, with ruby ; 1 gold ditto, set with red stones ; 1 gold hoop Brooch, set with stones, ruby in centre ; 1 gold enamel ditto, with pearls and one drop ; I gold ditto, figure of a man's head ; 1 ditto ditto, white cor- nelian ; 1 ditto ditto, small landscape ; 1 half mourning ditto, ' Forget- me- not' and ' Henry Hughes' under ; 1 ditto, large stone in centre, with small slones round it ; 2 silver Table Spoons, plain ; 2 ditto Tea Spoons, marked ' T. H.'; 1 ditto pair of Sugar Tongs, marked ' M. B.' Information to be given to Superintendent Bray, West Sussex Constabulary, Steyning. — Bow- street, February 15. Stolen from a shop window in Bolton, on the night of the 9th instant, by breaking a pane of glass : two pairs of gen- tlemen's elastic- side Boots, perforated toe caps; two pairs of ditto, crimped fronts ; a pair and an odd Blucher Shoe ; and a pair of lady's elastic- side Boots. Also stolen from a shop in Bolton, on the same night: a pair of dark thick cloth Trousers, small check pattern, fly fronts, and a pair of thick tweed cloth Trousers, both in an unfinished state. Information to be given to Chief Constable Harris, Bolton, Lancashire.— Bow- street, February 13. During the night' of the 9th instant, the r idence of Mrs. Baker, of Thorngrove, in the parish of Grimley, near Worcester, was broken and entered, and the following pro- perty stolen : a Table Spoon, a Fork, a smaller Fork, two Tea Spoons, and a Mustard Spoon, gilt inside, all silver, crest— a lion passant; a pair of silver Sugar Tongs; and a plated Coffee- pot. Information to be given to Superintendent Phillips, County Police Office, Worcester.— Bow- street, ieb. 13. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Found ( supposed to have been stolen), in the parish of Oshaldwick, on the 7th instant, 12 Lincolnshire Ewes, 1 tup in poor condition, punch hole through one of the ewes right ear, and also one through the tups left ear; the whole of them are marked with red across the shoulders and loins. Informa- to be given to Superintendent Driscoll, North Riding Con- stabulary Station, Heworth, York.— Bow- street, February 22. Supposed to have been stolen on the 7th instant, from a field at Bilston, a brown mare Pony, 2 years old, 10 hands black legs, long tail, newly shod, in low condition, and has been worked ; the property of Philip Pumfory, of Bilston. Information to be given to Superintendent McCrea, Constabu- lary Office, Bilston, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, February 22. Stolen, during the night of the 18th instant, from a stable at Shottesham All Saints, Norfolk, a bay horse Pony, 13J hands high, aged; black legs, white star on forehead, rather rough in condition, and is a rocking trotter ; supposed by a man 22 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, fresh complexion, hazel eyes, light brown hair, and has recently been discharged from the army ; dressed in brown overcoat, with light jacket under, brown cloth trousers, blucher boots, and light cloth cap. In- formation to be given to Superintendent Ward, Police Station, Loddcn, Norfolk, who will pay £ 1 reward on apprehension and conviction of the offender.— Bow- street, February 20. Further information respecting the horse advertised in the Police Gazette of the 21st of September, 1863, as stolen from Twatley farm, near Malmesbury, and for the recovery of which and conviction of the offender £ 25 reward was offered. It has been ascertained that TOM PROUT, alias TOM BROWN, offered the horse for sale at different places about that time in Shropshire ; the horse is now supposed to be in that or one of the adjacent counties. Information to be given to Superinten- dent Staples, Malmesbury.— Bow- street, February 20. Stolen from a farm- yard at New Hall, in the parish of Ware, during the night of the 8th instant, a dark brown cob Horse, 5 years old, 14 hands 2 inches high, without shoes, very rough, having been in the straw yard for about six months. Also stolen from a farm- yard at Fanham's Hall, in the parish of Ware, a chesnut Mare, coming 4 years old, 15 hands high, white face, white hind legs, without shoes, very rough. It was seen in the possession of fi man, going in the direction of London, 36 or 37 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, thin face, sallow complexion, no whiskers ; dressed in black coat very much worn under arms, cord trousers fitting tight to legs, wide- awake hat, and old Wellington boots with several cuts in the sides. £ 5 reward will be paid to any person giving such information as may lead to the recovery of the mare, and a further reward of £ 5 for the apprehension and conviction of the offender of offenders. Information to be given to Inspector Thomas Bygrave, Ware, Herts, or at any Police Station in the county of Herts. — Bow- street, February 20. & i ® r< SH during the night Of the 13th iir.- jt/ from a stable on the premises of Mr. Smith, Morton Lordship, Easingwold, Yorkshire, a brown draft Horse, 6 years old, about 15 hands 3 inches high, white face, both hind legs white, right eye ' wall,' long switch tail, and in good condition ; also an old Bridle, pelham Bit, and an old Saddle. Information to be given to Superintendent Driscoll, Heworth, near York, or to Inspector Hunter, North Riding Constabulary Office, Easing- wold, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, February 17. Stolen between the month of June last and the present time, from Egglestone Fell, Middleton- in- Teesdale, Durham, the property of Mr. Amos, of Marwood, thirty- four Scotch Sheep ; twenty- seven of them burnt across the face, marked • A' on the far horn, and tar marked ' A M' on the far side; and seven burnt across the face, marked ' A ' on far horn, and tar marked ' A M' on near side. Whoever will give such information as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders shall receive £ 30 reward. Informa- tion to be given to Superintendent Knox, County Constabulary, Barnard Castle, Durham.— Bow- street, February 17. Stolen during the night of the 8th instant, from a field near Selby Oak, in the parish of Northfield, four teg Sheep, Leicester and Southdown breed, marked ' J. R.' on near side, the property of Mr. J. Fawdon. £ 10 reward will be paid upon conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given at the Police Station, King's- heath, near Birmingham. — Bow- street, February 17. The Horse stolen from Burford- road, Little Rissington ( advertised in the Police Gazette of the 30th March last), has been recovered. It was sold at Ludlow, Salop, by the man charged with stealing the horse from Aldbourne, Wilts ( adver- tised in the Police Gazette of 6th May last), the horse from Farlow, Salop ( as stated in Police Gazette of 17th August last), and the horses from Chipping Norton ( in Police Gazette of 9th January last); he also sold at Ludlow, about thirteen months ago, a black horse, aged, about 14 hands high, white blaze down the face, a little white on the left side of the lower lip, two patches of white hair on the upper lip, and both hind legs white ( this horse i3 also supposed to have been stolen). Information to be given to Sergeant Howells, County Con- stabulary, Cleobury Mortimer, Salop.— Bow- street, Feb. 17. Left at a public- house at Woking, Surrey ( supposed to have been stolen), a brown cob Mare, saddle- marked on back, and in good condition ; a low Dog Cart, recently painted, of a lead colour, apparently to hide its former colour, which was blue, has movable seats, back and front, and patent axletrees ; a set of Harness, brass mounted ; and a loose Overcoat, with pockets behind. By a man, 35 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches nigh, black whiskers and moustache ; said he came from Pet- worth, Sussex, and was accompanied by a boy, 5 years of age. Information to be given to the Deputy Chief Constable of Surrey, Guildford.— Bow- street, February 15. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Description of JOHN BROOKING, charged with stealing a quantity of Silk : 32 to 35 years of age, 5 feet 11 inches or 6 teet high, dark complexion, pale, long whiskers, and is a linendraper; usually dressed in brown melton overcoat, occasionally white hat with a black band, and is of sporting appearance : his last situation, previous to August last, was with Shellard and Hodgson, High- street, Birmingham, pre- viously with Mr. Pratt, draper, Leamington, prior to that with Holliday and Lewis, New- street, Birmingham. Information 2 P O L I C E GAZETTE. February 22. to be given to Capt. Segrave, Chief Constable, Wolverhampton, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- tireet, February 22. On the 4th instant a female absconded from the service of Mrs. Ann Petty, of Buckingham, after stealing three silk Dresses and three Shawls, the property of her mistress : she is about 5 feet high, has very peculiar features, and of very dirty habits ; she obtained money from two tradesmen by false pretences. Information to be given to Superintendent Wm. Giles, Buckinghamshire.— Boa- street, February 22. Absconded from his lodgings in the parish of Hope, Flint- shire, on the 20th instant, EDWAYD ENTWISTLE, collier, ehargvd vith stettfing £ 6 10s. in Gold : he is a native of Oswaldtwistle, Lancashire, and is well known at Blackburn, Church, and Accrington, 25 or 26 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, light hair, small features, very much pockpitted. and has Jost the last finger of right hand ; dressed in a cloth cap with peak, dark mixture cloth jacket, and light fustian trousers. Information to be given to Superintendent William Thomas, Mold, Flintshire.— Bow- street, February 22. Stolen on the 18th instant, from the Cavalry Barracks, llulme : a gold lever Watch, capped and jewelled, maker Dunnigan, Dublin, gold dial, with a wreath of leaves engraved round the edge, had attached a gold Albert Chain, and a dark bloodstone Key ; a gold Watch, similar to the above, but with- out maker's name, or the leaves round the face ; a gold Breast Pin, coiled bead, one double pin and chain, set with diamond and emeruld ; a gold diamond Ring, with five brilliants ; a gold dark bloodstone ditto, stone loose ; a £ 10 Bank of Eng- land Note; two Sovereigns; a dark tweed lounge Coat, side pockets outside and breast pocket inside ; a double- breasted Vest, same material; a pair of dark red ribbed tweed Trousers ; a pair of new side- spring Boots ; and a small low- brimmed Hat, the brim lias been newly cut and bound, but not turned up. By a private of the 3rd Hussars, 25 years of age, 6 feet 7J inches high, fresh complexion, light brown hair, very deaf, is a priuter, and a volunteer from the Middleton militia, and is supposed to lie dressed in the stolen clothes. He will probably go to Lower Rosamond- street, Exmoutb- street, or to Old- street, St. Luke's, London. £ 10 reward will be paid for liis apprehension and conviction, and recovery of the property, or in proportion to the amount recovered, on application to Superintendent John Gee, A Division Station, Albert- street and Lower King- Btreet, Manchester.— Bow- street, February 22. Description of a collier who absconded on the 18th instant from Old Park, Shropshire, charged with stealing a dark brown pilot jacket, part woru, has a patch on the left elbow, one pocket inside aud two out; a pair of strong blucher Shoes with square nails round the heels, clinkers round the toes, and nearly new : he is about 24 years of age, 6 feet 10£ inches high, dark hair, fi* t nose ; had on a cloth cap, and is supposed to be wearing the stolen jacket and shoes ; lias an anchor on left arm, and the letter ' D' under left breast; he has l> een in the Royal Marines. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Richardson, Wellington, or to Police Constable Purchase, Oaken Gates, Salop.— Bow- street, February 22. Description of WILLIAM FORD, alias PICKETT, who absconded from Farringdon on the morning of the 6th instant, uhargad with stealing a pair of half Wellington Boots, a pair of cord Trousers, and 2 white slop Frocks, the property of Joseph Farrow : 20 years of age, 6 feet 6 incites high, dark brown brown hair, rouu< jL, full face, of clean appearance, has turn mark on one of his wrists, is a native of Hale, near Farnham, Surrey, and has lived at Sundridge Park, near Bromley, Kent, as under keeper; he is also a deserter from the Royal Engineers; was dressed, when last seen, in a cord jacket, trousers, and waistcoat, and black cloth cap w ith peak. Information to be given to Superintendent Henry Rossiter, H; iii" ta Constabulary, Alton, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow streel, February 20. Description of EDWARD HEPPEL, who is charged with embezzling tho sum of £ 20, the moneys of Mr. M. Barrow, his employer ; 36 years of age, 6 feet high, slender make, swarthy couiplexiou, thin face, full eyes, dark hair inclined to curl, dark whiskers, and high cheekbones ; dressed in single- breasted grey overcoat with black velvet collar, black cloth dress coat ujuleriieatb, dork vest, dark cloth trousers, black wideawake hitt,. mid elastic- side boots : he was for several years traveller to a chemist at Newcastle- upon- Tyne, also with a chemist at Leith. Information to be given to Chief Constable Thomas Richardson, South Shields, who holds a warrant for his appre- hension.— Bow- street, February 20. Inscription of a tramping painter and glazier charged with stealing, from the workshop of Mr. Alfred Downing, plumber and glazier, of Finedon, Northamptonshire, Un the 3rd instant, a quantity of glazier's Tools, which have siuce been recovered: about 40 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, stout make, fresh complexion ; dressed in a long toown coat, cloth cap, and old dirty cord trousers, and frequents low lodging- houses: was last heard of at Northampton. Information to be given to Superintendent C. Chambers, Wellingborough, Northampton- shire.— Bow- street, February 17. Stolen from a dwelling- house in Ashton- under- Lyne, about 6 a. m. on the 15th instant, a suit of men's black cloth Clothes, nearly new. By a woman, who obtained lodgings at the bouse on the previous night, 24 or 25 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 0 iuches higi, sandy hair, slender make; dressed in a plum- coloured stud' dress, white straw hat trimmed with blue feathers and black velvet ribbon with white edge, black shawl, and kid boots : stated the was a dressmaker, and came from Stockport. Information to be given to Chief Constable Dalgliesh Ashton- under- Lyne, Lancashire.— Bow- street, Feb- ruary 17. Stolen on the night of the 9th instant, from Engine No. ,5793, of u a team threshing machine, at Hutton Moor, a patent Steam Gauge, Bet in brass, white or stone coloured dial, with glass and brass wire protectors in front, about 4 inches dhune'ej'. Supposed by a tramp who was seen on the road near ltijjon, about 6 a. m. ou the 10th instant, going in the direction of Knaresborough or Leeds. A man, of the following description, went into the yard while the engine was at work : 56 to 60 years of age, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, long face, large nose, hair turning grey, lame of one leg; dressed in blue pilot cloth monkey jaoket with pockets at side, dark trousers, and cap ; stated that he was by trade an engine fitter. Information to be given to Superintendent Walmesley. Leyburn, or to Sergeant Metcalf, North Riding Constabulary Wath, near Ripon, yorkshire.— Bow street, February lfi. Further information respecting JAMES EDWARD COLLARD, advertised in the Police Gazette of the I6th ult., charged with stealing a Watch, & c.: he left Lancaster Gate Mews, Upper Hyde- park- gardens, on the 31st ultimo, where h » had lodged a short time ; he stated he had obtained a sitnfllion in the country as schoolmaster ; he had a targe box and a railway rug in hi » possession on leaving, and it is pro- bable that he intends emigrating. Information to be given to Superintendent Mcintosh, Chief Constable's Office, Usk, Pont; pool, or to Inspector Sheppard, Newport, Monmouth.— ~ street, February 16. i Absconded from the service of . Adshead & Son, 70, New- street, Birmingham, manufactures of improved menesens and pantescopic spectacles, and the following day he himself calls for the circular. In one case, at Bacup, Lancashire, he obtained £ 4 and a pair of Spectacles, value 13s. Gd., for a pair which he said were gold and worth £ 5, but their real value is Is. 6d. I. S.' on right arm, a heart, two diamonds, and nine shots on right hand, and shamrock on left arm ; dressed in blue cloth cap with anchor buttons, dark tweed jacket, brown worsted vest, corduroy trousers, and lace- up shoes with brass eyelet- holes. Description of two men committed for trial at the next Winchester Assizes on the 2nd proximo, on a charge of stealing 33 lbs. of Copper: JAMES LACY, alias HUMPEY, of Garley, near Fording- bridge, Hants, about 30 years of age, long face, dark complexion and hair, and is deformed in the back ; supposed to have been convicted at Gosport, Winchester, Southampton, and elsewhere. The other gives the name of JEREMIAH MOYINGHAM, about 20 or 21 years of age, light hair, fair complexion, high cheekbones, and rather low forehead ; states that'he has friends residing in a court near George- yard, Whitechape], that his father is a hawker, and that he left London about three months ago : it is suspected that he has been previously convicted. Description of a boy giving the name of GEORGE HUGHES ( supposed to be fictitious), who is committed to Haverfordwest Gaol for vagrancy: 15 years of age, 4 feet 7 inches high, stoutly built, brown hair, blue eyes, fresh com- plexion, freckled face, very slightly pockmarked, has a small scar on back of first joint of left thumb, three small warts on palm of left hand, and a burn scar a little below the centre of back ; states that his father's name was George Hughes, and that he died in Bilston, Staffordshire, about two years ago; that his mother's name was Sarah Hughes, and that she died at No. 2, Park- street, Birmingham, on the 25th December, 1863 ; and that he has no relative, with the exception of an uncle, who is in America. He at first stated that he had escaped from the Saltley Reformatory about three months ago, but afterwards denied that statement, but admitted that he was committed to Birmingham Gaol for seven days, for begging, about twelve months ago. In his possession were found the follow- ing articles, which are supposed to have been stolen : a new- flowered black leather ladies Satchel, with green leather handle, steel rim and clasp, red leather inside; ' The First Book of Arithmetic,' the fly- leaf torn out, nearly new ; another called ' The English Vocabulary or Spelling Book,' with ' Emma Nowell and Miss Norton, Colne'; and ' The Third Book of Lessons'; a dark ebony- coloured Flute, in two parts, three German silver ferrules, one key, and six holes.
