W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. INFORMATIONS MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. About 8 p. m. on the 28th ultimo two guns, loaded with shot, were fired through the window of John Holt, of Llanymynech- hill, thereby endangering the lives of John Holt and his family. £ 20 reward will be paid to any person who shall give such information as will lead to the conviction of the offender or offenders, and every effort will be made to obtain a free pardon for any accomplice not being the actual per- petrator of the offence. Information to be given to Police Constable A. Breeze, Llandisilio, or to Chief Constable J. Hodgson, Welshpool, Montgomeryshire.— Bow- street, Feb. X. ARSON AND WILFUL BURNING. About 630 p. m. of the 26th ultimo, a cow- house was dis- covered to be on fire at Cefn- Rhug, near Corwen, Merioneth- shire. supposed to be the act of an incendiary. A reward of £ 10 is offered by Mr. Williams, of Cefn- Rhug, and a further reward of £ 5 is offered by William Wagstaff, Esq., to any person or persons who will give such information as will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Inspector Hughes, Bala, or to Sergeant Hugh Williams, Corwen, Merionethshire — Bow- street, February 10. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. About 0.40 p. m. on the 10th instant, George Edgely was attacked by three men, on the turnpike road near Tempsford, Beds, and robbed of £ 12 10s. in Gold, £ 1 13s. 6d. in Silver, a silver Twopenny- piece with a hole in it, and a wash- leather double purse, about 6 inches by 4 inches : one of the men is about 30 years of age, short, stout, and full face ; dressed in a rather short fustian coat, and dark cap. The other two were about 30 years of age, 6 feet 9 or 10 inches high ; dressed in fustian or light velveteen coats, and caps. They all had the appearance of navvies. Edgely stabbed one of his assailants, and it is supposed that he is severely wounded, and the blood was traced about a mile along the road towards Girtford. In- formation to be given to Deputy Chief Constable W. B. Graham, Bedford, or to Superintendent Jebbet, Biggleswade. — Row- street, February 13, Supposed to have been stolen from the person, on the afternoon of the 2nd instant, between the railway station and the top of St. Thomas- street, Lymington, a lady's plain gold Geneva Watch, opeu face, gold dial, black figures, steel hands, maker Baum, and back of the case engraved with flowers ; a long gold Guard Chain, rather large pattern, plain link, with snap ; attached to the guard is a short watch- key Chain of the same pattern, with a ring at the bottom and two gold Lockets with liair, a broken gold Watch Key, a common brass ditto, a small gold Fish with garnet eyes ; a small oval gold Locket, with grey hair inside ; a gold heart- shaped ditto, brown hair inside ; attached to the bow of the watch are two or three gold snap Rings, one plain and one fancy ; a large handsome old- fashioned gold Compass, deeply carved ; a gentleman's large plain Seal, much worn, with a red cornelian stone, initials 4 C. F.'; a small round gold Locket, inlaid with transparent pebbles, dark hair inside; a small common box Key ; and a small tortiseshell Trinket in the shape of a padlock. £ 6 reward will be paid to any person giving such information as shall lead to the recovery of the property, and conviction of the offender or offenders ( if stolen). Information to be given to Superintendent J. Martin, Hants Constabulary, Lynd- hurst, or to Sergeant Rooert Brinson, Lymington.— Bou>-> trcet, February 8. Stolen on the 2nd instant, from the person of a gentleman at Manchester, a gold lever Watch, engine- turned back, worn, gold dial, with flower ornaments, gold hands, engraved edges, No. 4626; had attached a gold square- linked Albert Chain, hook broken, a Locket, blue enamel on one side and hair on the other, and a small gold Horseshoe ; also a scarf Pin, made from a gold nugijet not worked. Any person giving sucli information as will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders, and recovery of the watch, shall receive £ 5 reward, on application to Captain Palin, Chief Con- stable, Town Hall, King- street, Manchester.— Bow- street, February 8. Stolen on the 31st ultimo from gentlemen, in Blackfriars'- road, a gold keyless Watch, engine- turned cases, maker Viner, London, No. 3662, with gold Guard and gold Locket con- taining the miniature of a lady attached, and a gold lever hunting Watch, white enamelled dial, No. 21182.— Metro- politan Police, L Division, February 6. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Stolen from a shop window in Bolton, on the night of the 9th instant, by breaking a pane of glass : two pairs of gen- tlemen's elastic- side Boots, perforated toe caps; two pairs of ditto, crimped fronts ; a pair and an odd Blucher Shoe ; and a pair of lady's elastic- side Boots. Also stolen from a shop in Bolton, on the same night: a pair of dark thick cloth Trousers, small check pattern, fly fronts, and a pair of thick tweed cloth Trousers, both in an unfinished state. Information to be given to Chief Constable Harris, Bolton, Lancashire.— Bow- street, February 13. During the night of the 9th instant, the residence of Mrs. Baker, of Thorngrove, in the parish of Grimley, near Worcester, was broken and entered, and the following pro- perty stolen : a Table Spoon, a Fork, a smaller Fork, two Tea Spoons, and a Mustard Spoon, gilt inside, all silver, crest— a lion passant; a pair of silver Sugar Tongs; aud a plated Coffee pot. Information to be given to Superintendent Pnillips, County Police Office, Worcester.— Bow- street, lfeb. 13. During the night of the 6th instant the dwelling- house of Mr. C. Briggs, Hail- gate, Howden, Yorkshire, was entered by means of skeleton keys, and the following property stolen : a Soup Ladle, a Gravy Spoon, four Table Spoons, six Dessert Spoons, two Salt Spoons, a Salt Castor, three Tea Spoons, a Butter- knife with ivory handle, a large Sugar Spoon with ivory handle, and two small Sugar Spoons— all silver, and marked either ' B.' or ' W. B.'; and five Sovereigns. The following is a description of the persons suspected : SAMUEL COXON, alias SIMPSON, alias JOHN WILSON, engine fitter, states that he is a native of York ( but supposed to be a native of Sunderland), 30 to 32 years of age, 6 feet 6$ inches high, brown hair, hazel eyes, fair complexion; dressed in brown woollen plaid jacket, three outside pockets and one inside left breast, with only one dark bone button at the neck, waistcoat of same material with dark wooden buttons, coarse white linen jacket with pockets at the side and white metal buttons, cotton cord trousers, strong lace- up boots with brass eyelet- holes, and black cloth cap with brass button on each side. He and the woman kept a fish shop in Scott- street, Hull, about twelve months ago. He was sentenced to two months' hard labour at the Hull July Sessions, 1863. MARGARET COXON, alias DWIRE, 30 years of age, 4 feet 10 inches high, black hair, very dark brown eyes, long small features, dark complexion ; dressed in a black silk dress or dark linsey- woolsey gown with small red stripes across, seal- skin cloak reaching nearly to the bottom of her dress, black straw bonnet with red rosebud in front, and usually wears a white apron : travels the country as a licensed hawker with cheap jewellery. CHARLES WALKER, London, frenchpolisher, 27 years of age, 6 feet inches high, light brown hair, slight whiskers, no beard, fair complexion, stoutly built, scar on forehead, and has ' Ann' tattooed above left wrist; dressed in black tweed small cord jacket and vest, white slop jacket underneath, bound round the waist with a band of the same material, and yellow buttons down the front, black tweed corded trousers with fly fronts, brown, white, and violet necktie, white woollen drawers, brown woollen shirt with violet and orange stripes, uuderneath which he wears a lilac woollen shirt, nearly new, herring- boned down each side of breast, old elastic- side boots, and round low- crowned black hat. The above are also suspected of having entered the house of Mrs. Beswick, of Bridlington, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 1st instant. Information to be given to Superintendent Green, Howden, Yorkshire, who holds a warrant for their apprehension.— Bow- street, February 13. Further information respecting the burglary at the Palace of the Bishop of Chester, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 30th ultimo : ELIZABETH LAING, alias SCOTCH LIZZ, has been apprehended, and all the property except one Overcoat ( a blue witney sac, with blue velvet collar^ recovered. Information to be given to Chief Constable G. L. Fenwick, Chester.— Bow- street, February 8. During the night oT the 3rd instant, the dwelling- house of J. Wiltshire, Esq., Shockerwick, near Bath, was broken and entered, aud the following articles stolen therefrom, viz. : a plain gold horizontal repeating Watch, enamel dial, maker Fras. Perigal, London, No. 21870, with a plain old- fashioned fob Chain, large links, and large gold Seal attached with a swivel and red cornelian stone, crest— an eagles claw, and motto ' Be careful; a gold Breast Pin, plain round top ; a German silver Pencil Case; a black cloth single- breasted Coat, nearly new; a pair of black kid Gloves; a white Handkerchief, marked ' C. S.'; a dark brown Inverness Cape, the top button hole has been repaired ; a black felt billycock hat, maker Mager, Bath ; and about £ 20 in Gold and Silver Monies. £ 5 reward will be paid for the apprehension of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Morgan, County Police Station, Upper Bristol- road, Bath.— Bow- street, Febeuary 8. Stolen about 6 p. m. on the 3rd instant, from the shop' window of Mr. William Hinkley, jeweller, Newcastle- under- Lyme, by breaking a pane of plate glass with a brick- end : 2 ladies gold lever Watches, engraved backs, gold balances and dials, jewelled in four holes, maker William Hfnkley, New- castle, Nos. 61236 and 61643. Supposed by four men, from 20 to 23 years of age, all dressed in dark cloth clothing Itnd caps, except one, who had on a lighf coloured overcoat; three of them were from 6 feet 3 to 6 inches high, and stout build, the fourth was 6 feet 6 or 7 inches high, and of very slight build, with very pale tbin face. Information to be given to Superintendent Williams, Newcastle, Staffordshire.— Bow- st., February 6. Stolen by means of housebreaking, from the cottage of Elizabeth Morgan, at Ipsden Heath, in the county of Oxford, between 10 and 12 a. m.- on the 2nd instant, about £ 7 in Gold, and 30s. in Silver, contained in a steel chain Purse and a dark silk Purse. Supposed by a man about 6 feet 2 inches high, stout figure, brown hair ; dressed in a snuff- coloured velveteen jacket, militia trousers, and brown billycock hat. Information to be given to Superintendent Philip Cope, Henley- on- Thames, Oxon.— Bow- street, February 6. Stolen on the 2nd instant, by means of housebreaking, at Low Butterby, near Durham, two pairs of cloth Trousers; two cloth Waistcoats ; a cloth Jacket; a striped cotton Shirt ; and a pair of Boots with elastic sides, the property of William Gregory and David White. By a Scotchman ( who Ipledged the articles, except the shirt and boots, in Durham the same day), a farm labourer, about 22 years of age, 6 feet 7 inches high, friHh complexion, brown hair, projori imtHy made; dressed in a dark grey mixture waistcoat with sleeves, cord trousers, brown cloth cap, cossack boots, and woollen scarf. Information to be given to Superintendent Johnson, County Constabulary Office, Durham.— Bow- street, February 6. Description of JOHN WATTS, who is charged with breaking and entering the Mansion House at Erins, Argyll- shire, on the 13th ultimo, and stealing therefrom several pairs of Blankets ( some of which have been recovered): he is a miner or navvy, a native of Cornwall, about 60 years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches high, blind of left eye ( which is small and white), brown whiskers meeting under chin, ruddy com- plexion, rather hairy about the face ( which is round and full), common nose, thin brown hair, stout make, walks straight, and wears his cap on the left side of his head ; when last seen he wore a blue monkey jacket, much worn, shepherd tartan or dark grey trousers, of fine cloth but much worn, white and red cravat, blue cloth cap with leather peak, much worn, navvy boots, and has a white frock, which he may be wearing when at work ; speaks with the English accent: he has been several years, previous to October last, engaged in mines in Argyllshire, and he will probably seek employment elsewhere in similar works. Information to be given to the Chief Constable of Argyllshire, Lochgilphead, who holds a warrant for his appre- hension.— Boa- street, February 6. Between 10 p. m. on the 1st and 6 a. m. on the 2nd instant the dwelling- house of Mr. T. Dean, of Street Farm, Kelsall, was broken and entered, and the following property stolen : a fcrown cloth Topcoat with brown buttons; a dark blue Topcoat; an old light plaid Jacket, much worn ; a grey cloth Waistcoat, wants mending at the pocket; a rough brown Rug, marked 4 T. D.' j a plaid Cap ; two pairs of cotton Sheets ; a pair of linen Sheets; an old flannel Waistcoat ; four dimity Window Curtains; a gingham Apron ; an old Chemise with two patches ; a pair of woollen Stockings ; and an old felt Hat. Information to be given to Superintendent Gwynne, Tarporley, or to Police Constable ( No. 64) Elisha Lockett, Police Station, Kelsall, Cheshire.— Bow- street, February 6. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen or strayed from the College, Northfleet, between 3 and 6 p. m. on the 7th instant, an iron- grey Pony, aged, about 11 hands high, in good condition, and long tail. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Everest, Chatham.— Bow- street, February 13. Stolen during the night of the 11th instant, from a stable at Longcross, Chertsey, a brown cart Mare, rising 6 years old, about 16 hands high, rather large head, star on forehead, scar on off side of mouth, white near hind fetlock, and switch tail. A light bay Mare, aged, about 14 hands high, with black legs, small star on forehead, and in low condition, was found in an enclosure at Longcross, supposed left by the person stealing the above. Information to be given to Superintendent J. Murtell, Chertsey, Surrey.— Bow- street, February 13. Found about a month ago at Whitweck, Tettenhall, and supposed to have been stolen, a dark brown Mare, about 15 hands high, star on forehead, legs black, long tail, hair off right shoulder, and lame in left hind leg. Also at the same time a light brown Donkey. Information to be given to Inspector Bradley, Police Station, Tettenhall, near Wolverhampton, or to Mr. Faulkner, farmer, Whitwick. — Bow- street, February 13. Supposed to have been stolen from a field in Grove- lane, Handsworth, about a fortnight ago, the property of Mr. W, i POLICE GAZETTE; * February 13. Welsh, farmer, a brown cob Horse, 5 years old, 14 li# nds high, white mark down the hind quarter, slight blister ou each side. All reasonable expenses will be paid by Mr. Welsh on recovery of the horse, and conviction of the offender or offenders ( if stolen). Information to be given to Sergeant John Richards, Police Office, Handsworth, or at any Police Office in Stafford- shire.— JLtuw- street, Ftbruary 10. Supposed to have been stolen, about the 26th December last, from a pasture near Shall, in the township of Wolsingham, Durham, eight Scotch Wethers, 2 years old, marked ' W. S.' on horn and on near side with tar, ' S.' burnt on face, stroke of tar on the off side, and ruddled across the fillets. Information <• b* given to Superintendent Henderson, Bishop Auckland, \ lui\ im\,— Bow- street., February 8. Further information respecting the Horse stolen from Mr. Kent's, in the parish of Aldbourne, Wilts, and advertised in the Police Gazette of the Cih May last; the horse was offered for sale in Shrewsbury on May 15, by the man for whose apprehension a warrant still exists charging him with stealing the two Horses from Headlington, Oxon, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 9th ultimo, in company with the two boys committed to Oxford Assizes for trial. £ 5 reward will be paid on the recovery of the horse, and conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Superinten- dent Thomas Stretton, Wilts Constabulary, Marlborough.— — Bow- street, February 8. Found on the 25th ultimo, at Great Wilbraham, supposed tp have been stolen, an aged light coloured mare Donkey. In- formation to be given to Inspector Knight, Bottisham, Cam- bridgeshire.— Bow- street, February G. LARCENYAND EMBEZZLEMENT. Description of ROBERT KEW, aiias CROWNS, a miner, charged with stealing ou the 30th ultimo, at Eston, in the North Riding, a blue pilot Jacket, the property of James Cox. 27 years of age, about 6 feet 11 inches high, proportionate figure, dark brown hair, whiskers shaved off, has lost a tooth in front of the upper jaw, and is a native of Maraham, near Boston, Lincolnshire ; dressed in moleskin trousers, dark cap, navvy boot*, and is supposed to be wearing the stolen jacket. Infor- mation to be given to Mr. W. Simpson, North Riding Con- stabulary, Stokesley, or to Inspector J. Milner, Eston, near Middlesbro'.— Low- street, February 13. Stolen on the night of the Oth instaut, from Engine No. £ 706, of a steam threshing machine, at Hutton Moor, a patent Steam Gauge, set in brass, white or atone coloured dial, with glass and bra: a wire protectors in front, about 4 Inches diameter. Supposed by a tramp who was aeen on the road near Ripon, about G a. m. on the 10th instant, going in the direction of Knaresbrough or Leeds. Information to be given to Superintendent Walmesley, Leyburn, or to Sergeant Met- calf, North Ruling Constabulary Wath, near Ripon, Yorkshire. — Bow- street, February 13. Absconded on the 17th ultimo, from No. 1, Anglesea- place, Commercial- road, Limehouse, embezzling £ 2,400 : a man, 48 years of u-: u, 6 leet 3 inches high, dark complexion, hair, and eyes, sharp features, high shoulders; dressed in black cloth suit and black hat.— Metropolitan Police, K Division, February 13. Stolen from the dwelling- house of Mr. Wraight, potato merchant, Canterbury, on the night of the 7th instant, a Carpet- bag, containing a black velvet Coat and Waistcoat, a dark brown Coat and Waistcoat, a coloured flannel Shirt, a pair of heavy lace- up Boots, and an old- fashioned silver verge Watch. By a youth, who has absconded from the service of Mr. Wraight, 18 or 10 years of age, 5 feet 3J inches high, fair complexion, light hair ; dressed in black cloth ^ ap, black cloth overcoat, and blucher boots : states he is a native of Northamptonshire. THOMAS PEARSON, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 23rd ultimo, lias been apprehended— Bow- street, Feb. 13. Stolen on the 7th instant, from No. 29, Westmorland- . place, Paddington : a boy's brown mixture oloth Inverness cape, ' J. M. Lym' under collar; two damask Tablecloths ( mv coarse), uiui d ' L.' iu red cotton; two ditto, marked ' J. JM. L.' iu red ink ; a silver Dessert Spoon. By a woman, 40 yeses of age, 6 feet high, dark complexion, black lutir and eyes ; dressed in lilac cotton dress, dark shawl, and brown bonnet.'— Metropolitan Police, D Division, February 10. Absconded from West Lydford, Somerset, on the 2nd instant, charged with stealing from his lodgings a pair of half- wellington Boots, a pair of heavy nailed Boots, two pairs of worsted Stock mm, and a black bowler Hat, nearly new ; WILLIAM HEWITT, ahout 26 years of age, li feet G inches fcigb, light complexion, light brown hair, blue and of middle stature ; dressed in dark cloth coat, vest, and trousers, Had supposed to be wearing the stolen hat; of shabby appear- ance, is a miller, bat has lately been working on the roads ; lymku the north eoantry dialect, aud is supposed to have gone into Wales. Information to be given to Superintendent Drewett, Police Office, Somerton, Somerset, who holds a warrant lor his apprehension.— Bow- street, February 10. Absconded on the Gth instaut, from No. G, Marlborough- street, Last Greenwich, embezzling £ 3 10s.: a man, 22 years of age, 5 feet G inches high, fair complexion, grey eyes; dressed iu cord trousers, dark mixture coat, side- spring boots, and br* yn cap with peak.— Metropolitan Police, R Division, Fdruary 10. Stolen from the counter of a hosier's shop in Bristol, on the 8th instant, two mahogany Show Cases, about 20 inches long, 14 inches wide, and 4 inches deep, one containing Needles, the other Sewing Cotton. By a man who represented himself to be a commercial traveller, and bad a travelling case with him, containing samples of scarfs, & c., for sale, which he opened on the oases containing the cotton and needles; just at that time A second man went in and engaged the attention of the ahop- woman by asking to see some paper collars, and she having declined to l « iy any of the scarfs, the fyet man strapped up the easee with his sample case, and walked off with them. One of the men is about 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, light complexion and hair, large whiskers and moustache, aud pressed in light overcoat and low hat; the other about 35 years of age, 5 feet fi or 9 inches high, light complexion, hair, and whiskers, dressed in dark clothes and high- crowned hat, and Wrrjpd a brown papw parcel. Stolen on the 7th instant, from No. 1, Grafton- street, Kentish- town, £ 1 4s. He has been in the habit of obtaining respectable lodging and board, under pretence of being related to highly respectable families in the West Riding of Yorkshire and Lancashire, states that he was in very good circumstances, having property in Halifax, and when the time for payment drew near, of decamping, and in some instances stealing things from his lodgings. Desciiption of two men committed to Stamford Gaol on the 4th instant, tor trial at the General Quarter Sessions in April next, charged with larceny: JOHN SMITH, alias STEPHEN WRIGHT, alias JOHN PRATT, a native ot Leverington, Cainbs., labourer, 32 years of age, 5 feet 8J inches high, dark complexion, hair, and eyes, large dark whiskers, ronnd chin, long face, the lower jiw protruding beyond the upper one, right leg broken a little above knee, which causes it to bend inwards, nose bent on one side, scar across bridge of nose, and two scars on fore finger of left hand ; dressed in black billycock hat, rough blue cloth coat, corduroy trousers, and strong lace- up boots. He has been three times convicted since 1860 at Wisbeach, twice from Melton Mowbray, and twice from Grantham, the last time on the 16th April, 1862, and sentenced to three years' penal servitude.
