W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. INFORMATIONS MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. About 8 p. m. on the 25th ultimo two guns, loaded with shot, were tired through the window of John Holt., of Llanymynech- hill, thereby endangering the lives of John Holt awl his ftuniU A' 20 reward will be paid to any person who shall give sucii information as will leud to the conviction of the offender or offenders, and every effort will be made to obtain a free pardon for any accomplice not being the actual per- petrator of the offence. On the 18th instant the dead Body of a newly- born female child was found in a field at Chichester, wrapped in a pair of woman's drawers, a white skirt, and the skirt of a print dress all done up in a brown paper parcel, and tied round with a piece of string ; a coroner's inquest was held, and a verdict returned of ' Found dead.' Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Everett, Chichester, Sussex. — Bow- street, January 25. FORGERY. Further description of PETER OWEN, alias HANKIN- SON, & c., charged oil a warrant with forgery, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 11th instant: slenderly made, long nose, brown hair, and squeaking voice. Has with him a woman and three children, the eldest a girl, about 10 years of age; he frequents low lodging- houses, and was last seen in Lancashire dressed in a blue slop and representing that he was a turn- out collier from Staffordshire. Information to be given to Superintendent Audrews, Lymm, Cheshire.— Bow- street, January 23. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen on the 31st ultimo from gentlemen, in Blackfriars'- load, a gold keyless Watch, engine- turned cases, maker Viner, London, No. 36G2, with gold Guard and gold Locket con- taining the miniature of a lady attached, and a gold lever hunting Watch, white enamelled dial, No. 21182.— Metro- politan Police, L Division, February 6. Stolen about 3' 30 p. m. on the 17th ultimo, from the person of a gentleman in Corporation- street, Manchester, a gold lever Watch, white dial, steel hands, No. 19790. Any person giving such information as shall lead to the apprehension and convic- tion of the thief or thieves, and recovery of the said watch, shall receive £ 2 2s. reward, on application to Captain Palin, Chief Constable, Town hall, King- street, Manchester.— Bow- street, February 1. Stolen \> y a female about 8' 30 p. m. on the 28th ultimo, from the person of a gentleman, between Victoria bridge and Victoria Station, Manchester, a patent lever silver Watch, No. 13095, has a seconds hand. £ 1 reward will be paid on conviction of the thief and recovery of the watch. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Stolen about (> p. m. on the 3rd instant, from the shop wijidow of Mr. William Hinkley, jeweller, Newcastle- under- Lyme, by breaking u pane of plate glass with a brick- end : 2 ladies gold lever Watches, engraved backs, gold balances and dials, jewelled in four holes, maker William Hinkley, New- castle, Nos. 01230 and 643. Supposed by four men, from 20 to 23 year* of age, all dressed in dark cloth clothing and 1 caps, except one, who had on a light coloured overcoat; three of them were from 5 feet 3 to 5 inches high, and stout build, the fourth was 5 feet G or 7 inches high, and of very slight build, with very pale thin face. Information to be given to Superintendent Williams, Newcastle, Staffordshire.— Bow- st., February 6. Stolen by means of housebreaking, from the cottage of Elizabeth Morgan, at Ipsden Heath, in the county of Oxford, between 10 and 12 a. m. on the 2nd instant, about £ 7 in Gold, and 30s. in Silver, contained in a steel chain Purse and a dark silk Purse. Supposed by a man about 5 feet 2 inches high, stout figure, brown hair ; dressed in a snuff- coloured velveteen jacket, militia trousers, and brown billycock hat. Information to be given to Superintendent Philip Cope, Henley- on- Thames, Oxon.— Bow- street, February 6. During the night of the 3rd instant, the dwelling- house of J. Wiltshire, Esq., Shockerwick, near Bath, was broken and entered, and the following articles stolen therefrom, viz. : a plain gold horizontal repeating Watch, enamel dial, maker Fras. Perigal, London, No. 21870, with a plain gold link Chain and gold Seal attached ; a gold Breast Pin, plain round top ; a German silver Pencil Case; a black cloth single- breasted Coat, nearly new ; a pair of black kid Gloves; a white Handkerchief, marked ' C. S.'; a dark brown Inverness Cape, the top button hole has been repaired ; a black felt billycock hat, maker Mager, Bath ; and about £ 20 in Gold and Silver Monies. Information to be given to Superintendent Morgan, County Police Station, Upper Bristol- road, Bath.— Bow- street, Febeuary 6. Stolen on the 2nd instant, by means of housebreaking, at Low Butterby, near Durham, two pairs of cloth Trousers; tw^> cloth Waistcoats ; a cloth Jacket; a striped cotton Shirt; and a pair of Boots with elastic sides, the property of William Gregory and David White. By a Scotchman ( who Ipledged the articles, except the shirt and boots, in Durham the same day), a farm labourer, about 22 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair, proportionately made ; dressed in a dark Igrey mixture waistcoat with sleeves, cord trousers, brown cloth cap, cossack boots, and woollen scarf. Information to be given to Superintendent Johnson, County Constabulary Office, Durham.— Bow- street, February 6. Description of JOHN WATTS, who is charged with breaking and entering the Mansion House at Erins, Argyll- shire, on the 13th ultimo, and stealing therefrom several pairs of Blankets ( some of which have been recovered): he is a miner or navvy, a native of Cornwall, about 50 years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches high, blind of left eye ( which is small and white), brown whiskers meeting under chin, ruddy com- plexion, rather hairy about the face ( which is round and full), common nose, thin brown hair, stout make, walks straight, and wears his cap on the left side of his head ; when last seen he wore a blue monkey jacket, much worn, shepherd tartan or dark grey trousers, of fine cloth but much worn, white and red cravat, blue cloth cap with leather peak, much worn, navvy boots, and has a white frock, which he may be wearing when at work ; speaks with the English accent: he has been several j years, previous to October last, engaged in mines in Argyllshire, and he will probably seek employment elsewhere in similar works. Information to be given to the Chief Constable of Argyllshire, Lochgilphead, who holds a warrant for his appre- hension.— Bow- street, February 6. Between 10 p. m. on the 1st and 6 a. m. on the 2nd instant the dwelling- house of Mr. T. Dean, of Street Farm, Kelsall, was broken and entered, and the following property stolen : a brown cloth Topcoat with brown buttons; a dark blue Topcoat; an old light plaid Jacket, much worn ; a grey cloth Waistcoat, wants mending at the pocket; a rough brown Rug, marked ' T. D'; a plaid Cap ; two pairs of cotton Sheets ; a pair of linen Sheets; an old flannel Waistcoat ; four dimity Window Curtains; a gingham Apron ; an old Chemise with two patches ; a pair of woollen Stockings ; and an old felt Hat. Information to be given to Superintendent Gwjnne, Tarporley, or to Police Constable ( No. 64) Elisha Lockett, Police Station, Kelsall, Cheshire.— Bow- street, February 6. Between 9 p. m. the 29th and 5 a. m. on the 30th ultimo, the dwelling- house of James Richardson, farmer, Hardy- lane, Chorlton- cum- Hardy, was broken and entered, and the follow- ing property stolen thorefrom : 1 linen Sheet; 1 cotton ditto ; 1 white linen Bolster Slip ; 1 grey linen ditto ; 4 double warped calico Pillow Slips, with four strings on each, new ; 1 grey calico Mattress Cover, new ; 1 calico Nightgown, with muslin frill round the neck and wristbands about 3 inches wide ; 1 calico Nightgown, with narrow wristbands, and open in front half way ; 3 calico Shirts, with white covered buttons, boy's size, nearly new; 2 linen Shirts, open behind, half worn, men's size, and newly mended at the bottom; 1 new grey holland Apron, marked ' J. R.' in white cotton on the band ; 1 grey canvas Apron ; 1 blue striped cotton Apron ; 3 roller Towels, two of which are nearly new; 4 linen Tea Towels, half worn ; 1 linen Collar, man's size ; 9 linen Collars, boy's size, three turn- down ; 2 twilled calico Nightcaps, one with edging ; 1 diaper Table Cloth, much worn and marked with iron mould; 1 grey linen Dresser Cloth, 2 yards long and 1 yard wide, much worn; 1 linen Chemise, with crotchet edging round the heck and sleeves about 1 inch wide, much worn ; 1 piece of grey Canvas, I yard square, and hemmed at the sides; all these articles were wet. A pair of strong lace- up Boots, man's size, the toes and heels tipped with iron, and about nine hole? on each side, much worn ; 2 pairs of yellow leather Gaiters, buttons up the sides, and come well up on the thigh ; 2 Horse Cloths, with black and red stripes, a large leather strap on each to come round the breast, new ; 1 old Horse Cloth, with black and red stripes, much worn, a leather strap on each side. Suspicion is attached to a farm labourer who was discharged from Mr. Richardson's service on the 21st ult., who is a native of Cheadle, Cheshire, 22 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, stoutly built, round louldered, dark hair ( cut short) and whiskers ; dressed in a round cotton cord jacket and vest, brown cloth trousers ( newly fronted with rough cloth), and clogs. Information to be given to Superintendent Chadwick, County Constabulary, Old Trafford, near Man- chester.— Bow- street, February 3. Further particulars respecting the burglary at the Palace of the Bishop of Chester, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 30th ultimo. Five persons lave been apprehended, viz.: JOSEPH BANKS, alias MICK FLANNEGAN, alias NEWCASTLE MICK, 28 veai of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, brown hair, proportionate ik , walks erect, grey eyes, heavy eyebrows, fresh complexi n, slight moustache, rather wide mouth, good- looking, and tattooed on both arms ; dressed in dark clothes, elastic- side boots, and round felt hat: has been convicted in Newcastle, Manchester, and Liverpool, for felony. CHRISTOPHER WELTON ( name suppled to be fictitious), 28 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, full fresh- coloured face, large stiff brown whiskers, chin shaved clean, very corpu- lent, and speaks the Newcastle- on- Tyne dialect; dressed in a dark tweed surtout coat, long in the skirt, dark vest, and fashionably made dark diagonal tweed trousers, Soft billycock hat, and thin lace- up boots with brass eyelet- holes: hawks razors, & c. WILLIAM TASSINGER, alias DUBLIN, 28 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, dark complexion, black eyes, hair, and whiskers ( thickest under the chin), and slightly pockpitted; dressed in a black billycock hat, blue pilot coat and vest, and dark cord trousers : hawks cheap jewellery, which he carries in 4 box covered with black leather strap round it. In his pojst^ ston were found fifteen pairs of men's white cotton Gloves, whichvare supposed to have been stolen. MARY WELTON ( name supposed to be fictitious), 27 years of sge, thin pale face, very high cheekbones, and small restless eyes ; dresses well, and has been living with Welton. MARY TASSINGER, alias SMITH, 28 years of age, tall, light hair, large coarse features, and badly dressed. A woman of the following description, who pledged one of the stolen coats the day after the burglary, is still at large: 28 years of age, 6 feet 4 inches high, fresh complexion, black hair, hazel eyes, has a woman and sailor tattooed on left arm, ' M. Mc.,' heart, ' J. G.', and anchor on right arm, has marks of recent cuts on one of her arms, and a few days ago had one or two blackened eyes ; has served 12 months for a burglary at Tranmere, near Liverpool, and is well known to the police in Liverpool, Manchester, & e., as SCOTCH LIZZ. The grey Overcoat only has been recovered. All the prisoners are suspected of having committed offences elsewhere. Information to be given to Chief Constable G. L. Fenwick, Chester.— Bow- street, February 3. Between 12 p. m. on the 29th and 7 a. m. on the 30th ultimo the dwelling- house of the Rev. R. Ellis, of Westerdale, in the North Riding of Yorkshire, was broken and entered, and a pair of Cossack Boots, man's size but very small, nearly new, very broad across the toes, two lace holes on each side, heel plates, nailed on the bottoms with small muds, stolen. Supposed by a man, 28 to 35 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 7 inches high, dark complexion and hair, much hair about face, stoutly built; dressed in dark cap, fustian clothes, and strong boots : had the appearance of a navvy on tramp. A button was found on the pantry floor, with a brass rim and a piece of horn in the centre, the size of a fourpenny piece, the rim on the top was flowered, on the neck side of the button ' Sporting — New Design' stamped on the brass. Information to be given to Superintendent Simpson, North Riding Constabulary, Stokesley, or to Inspector Ralph Prest, Police Station, Guisborough.— Bow- street, February 3. Stolen by means of housebreaking, between the 21st and 27th ultimo, from the Hawick Arch Geological Museum, a large collection of ancient gold, silver, copper, and bronze Coins, and foreign gold, silver, and copper Coins, among which were a gold Jacobus, 1601 or 1602, a silver 5s. Piece of Queen Anne, eight or nine gold East Indian Coins, various silver Coins of Edward, Queens Elizabeth and Mary, and William III, a silver Shilling of Henry VIII, and two Roman silver Coins; a Bank of Ireland Note for 5s., supposed date 1805, with many endorse- ments on back, and several American Greenbacks, from 5 to 50 dollars ; a pair of elephant's Tusks, nearly 3 feet long ; two silver Rods, about 4 feet long, divided into three compartments by rings, the two under spaces plain spiral fluted, the upper a lozenge or diamond pattern, half- inch each side, and chased, top- rounded, diameter at bottom 1J inches, at top 3 or 3^ inches ( they will most likely be stripped of the silver ; a figure of an Elephant, 6 inches long by 5 inches high ; a Walrus Tooth ; two bronze Hindoo Household Gods: a small brass Russian Cross ; a Cross, Anchor, and Heart of polished steel; a small box of Seed Pearls, and various other articles. £ 10 reward will be paid for such information as will lead to the recovery of the whole or part of the property, and the conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Superinten- dent Munro, Hawick, Roxburghshire.— Bow- street, February 1. On the night of the 29th ultimo, the dwelling- house of Mrs. Jane Beswick, Quay- road, Bridlington, was entered by means of skeleton keys, and stolen therefrom : 9 silver Table Spoons, old- fashioned, three of them marked ' I.'; 6 silver Tea Spoons, marked ' I.'; 6 silver Tea Spoons, old- fashioned; 2 t 2 P O L I C E 6 A Z E T TE. pairs of silver Sugar Tongs, marked ' E. C.,' crest— a dove ; a small silver butter Boat; a gold plated Brooch, with ruby stoue ; a pearl Ring with hair, oval shaped, marked ' Nicholas Roberts.' Information to be given to Superintendent B. E. Naylor, Bridlington, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, February 1. The dwelling- house of George Brazier, of Southwick, Sussex, was broken into on the night of the 28th instant, and six old- fashioned Tea Spoons, a pair of silver Sugar Tongs with a letter engraved on them, and about £ 1 stolen therefrom ; the spoons and tongs can be identified. Information to be given to Superintendent John Bray, West Sussex Constabulary, Stey- ning, or to Sergeant Juden, Shoreham, Sussex.— Bou>- street, January 30. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. The Colt advertised in the Police Gazette of the 3rd inst., as stolen from Cottersbrooke, has been found and restored to the owner.— Bow- street, February 6. RICHARD WILLIAMS, charged with horse stealing, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 20th ultimo, has been apprehended and committed for trial at the next Oxford Assizes. — Bow- street, February G. Description of a horse found on the 1st instant, and now in the possession of the police at Wednesbury : about 16 hands high, dark brown, star on forehead, white near hind fetlock, aged, the horse was fully harnessed, and was covered with a light woollen rug, and in very low condition. Information to be given to Superintendent Holland, Staffordshire Constabulary Office, Wednesbury.— Bovo- slreet, February 6. found on the 25th ultimo, at Great Wilbraham, supposed to have been stolen, an aged light coloured mare Donkey. In- formation to be given to Inspector Knight, Bottisham, Cam- bridgeshire.— Bow- street, February 6.. 1 Stolen during the night of the 301h ultimo, the property et Mr. George Colebatch, of Neenton, Salop, farmer, a small ewe Sheep, of the Welsh breed, with a white face, and marked with the letters ' G. C.' in pitch on the right side. Information to be given to Superintendent R. McWilliam, County Police Office, Bridgnorth, or to Police Constable ( 22) Clarke, Neenton, Salop.— Bow- street, February G. Found in a field at Southcote Farm, near Reading, on the 0th ultimo, ( supposed to have been stolen), a bay nag Mare, aged, about 14 or 15 hands high, a small star in forehead, rough mune, switch tail, stands rather over at knees, slightly touched in the wind, and in bad condition. Information to be fiven to Superintendent Crook, Berks Constabulary Station, fading.— Bow- street, February 3. Found, supposed to have been stolen, a dark brown Mare, black legs and feet, stands about 16 hands, aged, has several white spots on the offside, and the hair chafed off the shoulder, white spot on the chine, and in rather low condition. It was left at an inu at Arnold, Notts, on the 20th ultimo. Informa- tion to be given to Superintendent T. Palethorpe, County Police Station, Nottingham.— Bow- strect, February 1. Description of THOMAS PROUT, alias BROWN, charged with stealing a brown Horse at Chadlington, Oxon, on the night of the 5th ultimo ( since reuovered): about 28 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, stout make, dark complexion, dark brown hair, rather long behind and inclined to curl, dark brown bushy whiskers, walks erectly, and has the appearance of a farm labourer ; dressed in a rough brown overcoat, corduroy trousers, leather leggings, strong lace- up boots with white leather laces, and black billycock hat: he is well known in the counties of Gloucester, Salop, and Bedford. Information to be given at the Chief Constable's Office, Oxford, or to Inspector J. Lakin, Chipping Norton, Oxon, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, February 1. Supposed to have been stolen on the 23rd instant, from Bitterley Hyde, Pencombe, Hereford, the property of Mr. Nicholas Mason, farmer : 1( 1 Sheep, live ewes, in yeam, one of them has black face, marked ' M' in a circle on left side; four wether lambs, brown faces ; five ditto ewe lambs ; and two tup ditto with white faces, loug tails, and all marked ' M ' on the crup. Information to be given to Superintendent Daniel Harwood, Bromyard, Herefordshire.— Bow- street, January 30. A reward of £ 2 will be given for any information that will lead to the apprehension of WILLIAM REED, against whom a warrant is issued, charging him with stealing a Horse aud Fly from Aldershot, Hants, both recovered, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 13th instant. Information to be glv » n to Superintendent W. Howard, Hants Constabulary, Aldershot.— Bow- street, January 30. The woman advertised in the Police Gazette of 5th Oct. last, charged with stealing a horse at Farlow, has been appre- hended and committed for trial at the next Salop Sessions, and the horse recovered : she gives the name of MARY BROWN, proper name MARY POULTON, native of Wootten- under- Edge; the man is still at large, he is a native of Bagshot, and is shout 28 years of age, about 5 feet 0 inches high, light brown hair, well made, and upright figure ; has stolen horses in Salop, Oxon, and Wilts. He sold at Cleehills about 12 months ago, a black horse, aged, about 14 hands high, white streak down the face, and both hind legs white, which is supposed to have been stolen. Information to be given to Serjeant Howells, Cleobury, Mortimer, Salop.— Bow- street, January 30. February 6. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Absconded on the 1st instant, from No. 2, Edward- street Hoxton, stealing £ 0 11>. 6d., a man, 20 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, stout build, fair complexion; dressed in blue overcoat with blue velvet collar and light cap.— Metropolitan Police, N Division, February ( J. Stolen on tho 20th ultimo, from No. 2, Sarah's- place, Brook Green- lane, Hammersmith: a calico Sheet and a brown linsey Tablecloth, both marked ' Dixon' in ink ; and two feather Pillows, linen ticks. By a female, 23 years of age, 5 feet high, fair complexion, one tooth deficient in upper jaw ; dressed in black dress with two flounces and green crape bonnet with plaid strings.— Metropolitan Police, T Division, February 6. Stolen on the 1st instant, from No. 14, Willow- row, Saint Luke's : 1 pair of black oloth Trousers. 1 black cloth Vest. 2 calico Shirts. 2 linen Collars. By a man, 24 years of age, 6 feet 4 inches high, dark com- plexion aud hair, slight moustache ; dressed in a black suit and felt hat.— Metropolitan Police, G Division, February 6. Description of a iff who is charged with breaking into several vessels, during We past and present month: between 30 and 40 years of age, feet 5 or 6 inches high, dark com- plexion, dark hair a little curly, and whiskers under chin ; dressed in an old fustian sleeved waistcoat mended in front, a dirty blue Guernsey underneath, old fustian trousers, lace- up boots, and blue cloth cap with fur round it; he is supposed to be a waterman; frequents low beer houses, brothels, and river sides. Information to be given to Superintendent William Hall, Wakefield, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, February 6. Stolen from different shops in the Borough of Cambridge, during the evening of the 3rd instaut, a pair of gentleman's button Boots; a pair of men's half Boots ; a pair of men's strong lace, up Shoes ; a pair of men's strong nailed Shoes, with eyelet holes and tips on the heels; six silk Handkerchiefs, magenta colour; 1 ditto white ground with violet border; and a number of gilt scarf Rings and Pins. A warrant has been issued for his apprehension. He is said to be well- known to the Police in Staffordshire, having been several times convicted of felony, and he has served in the Staffordshire Militia. Description of ROBERT WALLACE, a private of the 74th Highlanders, and servant to an officer of that regiment, who absconded from Edinburgh on the 4th instant, dressed in plain clothes, which he is charged with stealing: 19 years of age, about 5 feet 5 inches high, fresh complexion, auburn hair ( nearly red), is a groom, and was born in the parish of Carluke, in the county of Lanark ; has two suits of clothing in his possession, both made of dark grey tweed, except one pair of trousers, which are made of light grey check cloth ; when he absconded is supposed to have had on two pairs of trousers, two waistcoats, and one coat, and wears a balmoral cap. Sup- posed to have left Edinburgh by a train leaving the Waverley Station at about 8 p. m., and is likely first to proceed to Glasgow. Description of a man, a brick maker or burner, who is charged with stealing 14a. from Richard Estrop, of Guisborough, ironstone miner, on the 5th instant: 55 years of age, 5 teat 10 in. high, rather dark complexion and whiskers, black hair, slender build, and is a native of Sheffield, where it is supposed he will go ; dressed in an old hillycock hat, brown cloth coat, cotton cord trousers, marked with red calcine du9t, strong boots, one of them has a piece out of the sole, on the inside of the boot near the toe- plate. He has worked at and is well known in most brickyards. By a man, a tramp, of the fallowing description, who engaged lodgings there for the night: he is about 25 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, rather dark complexion, long dark hair, no whiskers, round features, hazel eyes, rather square shoulders, slightly made, and active; dressed in light coloured cord trousers, dark cap with leather peak and a narrow strip of leather round the front, and blucher boots nailed all round ; stated that he was a cooper. By a man who lodged in the house that night, about 21 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, slender make, light hair and complexion , supposed to be wearing the stolen property, as he left his own behind. Also stolen from a beer- house at Oldham, on the morning of the 25th ultimo, a round blue pilot cloth Jacket, a pocket on each side and one inaide left breast, trimmed with black covered buttons a buff Vest, double- breasted, with cloth raised which forms squares, has three pearl buttons on each side ; a pair of fine cord trousers, with rule pocket which con- tained a 2- foot Rule ; a red flannel Shirt; a cotton Shirt, with linen front; a pair of lace- up Boots, with about 14 brass eyelet holes on each side. By a young man lodger, about 23 years of age, 5 feet 2 or 3 inches high, rather stout build, fresh com- plexion, dark brown hair ( rather long), whiskers under chin ; weak eyes, long nose flat at the bridge ; dressed in a black cloth cap with peak, black and red muffler, and supposed the stolen clothes, as he left his own behind ; the stolen articles will be rather too large for him. In one of his pockets was found a small book, in which was written ' Great Cross street, George Taylor.' Stolen on the 1st instant, from the ' Queen's Head' hotel, Ashby de- la- Zouch, Leicestershire, a leather Writing Desk, containing £ 9, chiefly in Half- crowns. The desk was after- wards found in a room at the hotel in which a man of the following description slept, and who left Ashby by the 7 a. m. train for Burton- on- Trent: 23 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, slender make, brown hair and whiskers, sallow com- plexion ; dressed in a long snuff- coloured topcoat, black hat, bine worsted necktie with a ring on it, and white turn- down collar; is of rather shabby appearance. Stolen on the night of the 1st instant, from the house of William Whalley, ' Crown' inn, Nova Scotia, Blackburn: a black silk Dress, has two large flounces on skirt which are bound with peach coloured binding, hooks up the front of body, nearly new ; a pair of women's kid leather Boots, buttons in front; a pair of strong blucher Shoes, three holes at each side of front, and have been half- heeled ; a red and black plaid woollen Shawl, about half worn ; a brown woollen Shawl; a pair of girl's white woollen Stockings; a white linen Shirt, not finished ; a woman's black satin Jacket, partly made ; two cotton Sheets; a black holland Jacket, to fit a dress; and a light woollen Shawl. By a man of the following description, who took lodgings there, and afterwards absconded : from 30 to 35 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, dark complexion, very small whiskers, slender make ; dressed in a grey coat, vest, and trousers, the coat bound round the edges, red and black plaid shirt, black silk necktie, white collar, and elastic- Bide boots ; carried a black bag and umbrella. Description of a man who is charged with stealing 10s., the moneys of Mr. John Firby, of Bishop Auckland, on the 25th ultimo: about 40 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, dark complexion and hair, stoutly made; dressed in a dark coat and hat. He called Mr. Firby up at 5 o'clock in the morning, pretending to make a purchase, and induced him to lay 10s. on the counter for change, which he picked up and ran away with. He had the appearance of a stableman, and left the bit of a riding bridle behind him, which was stamped ' Hall and Son' on the hranch at each side, which are of unusual length. Description of FREDERICK HANDCOCK, a travelling watchmaker, who is charged with stealing 2 Watches, on the 16th ultimo, entrusted to him to repair, and which have sinoe been found pledged, the property of J. Smith and another, at Shepton Mallet: 28 years of age, 5 ft. 1 or 2 in. high, light sandy hair and whiskers, and has a few pimples on forehead ; dressed in a light suit of clothes, and low crowned felt bat. By a navvy, who has been working for about three weeks on the new line of railway near Pamshaw; about 30 years of age, 6 feet 9 inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair, slightly bald on the top off his head, ginger- coloured whiskers, proportionate make, and speaks the north country dialect; dressed in brown velvet coat half worn, mole- skin trousers, short moleskin leggings, the stolen cap, and a pair of large boot clogs; he may be wearing a pair of new strong lace boots; one of the fingers on right hand has been recently crushed about the nail, and is at present wrapped up. It is supposed that he will seek for employ- ment on some railway in course of construction. Description of two men who absconded from Charlton, on the 26th ultimo, charged with stealing a number of Joiner's Tools, which have since been recovered : one, a native of Charlton, Oxon, about 20 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, fair complexion ; dressed in dark jacket, round hat, cord trousers ( clumsily patched on one leg), and' ankle boots. The other, about 20 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, slender make, a wheelwright's apprentice, the middle finger of left hand has been cut off near the first joint, also has a pistol wound in the palm of right hand ; dressed in a dark jacket, dark cap with leather peak, and fustian trousers with paint on them. S. * Rodney'; is 38 or 40 years of age, 6 feet 6 inches high, slight make, sallow complexion, dark hair cut very short and turning grey, whi- kers shaved *> ff, stoops a little when walking, tattoo marks on his arms—' J. H.', a ship, with the word ' Rodney' under it, a star, the sun, a sailor holding a glass, and a woman holding a bunch of flowers ; di essed in a black cloth coat with pockets outside, vest of the same colour, brown cloth trousers, and kid boots with brass eylet- holes. Found on the 24th ultimo, in a ditch on the roadside between Hunwick and Wellington, Durham, the dead Body of a full- grown female child, tied up in a piece of white calico, three- quarters of a yard square. Description of a lad committed for trial at the next assizes for highway robbery at Langham, in the county of Rutland, on the 27th ultimo: gives the name of THOMAS KAIN, Irish by birth, 17 years of age, 5 feet S| inches high, grey- eyes, brown hair, fresh complexion, and has a tear on side of left eye from a cut with a stone ; dressed in an old blue ribbed cloth coat, brown cloth waistcoat, old browu cloth trousers, lace- up boots with brass eyelet- holes, and black cloth cap witli figured braid round bottom. States that his father, a labourer, lives at Dublin ; that he left there about two or three years ago, and went to live with his sister, near St. Ann's Church, Liverpool, and that he worked for a short time with a watch- maker there, and afterwards for an eating- house keeper at Whittington, near Manchester. Two young men are suspected, who have absconded from Willenhall: one is about 19 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, stoutly made, fresh complexion, light hair cut short behind, round face, grey eyes, good looking, and is a padlock- maker; dressed in a short pilot jacket with dark bone buttons, a pocket on each side, light woollen cord tronsers, small pattern, dark quilted cloth billycock hat, strong blucher shoes, coloured silk handkerchief round his neck, and generally wears a white apron tied round his waist; the other is about 18 years of age, but looks much younger, 6 feet 4 inches high, slender make, long features, large eyes, pale complexion, very delicate- looking, and dressed in shabby greasy cloth Coat and trousers, and black felt billycock hat; he is key maker.
