Stolen on the night of the 23id instant, from a house in Rochdale, by means of housebreaking : a light mixture Melton cloth Coat, two pockets in the skirt behind, containing a pair of black kid Gloves, and a white Pocket Handkerchief marked | G. S.' in red cotton ; a pair of black cloth Trousers, pocjcets in the seams ; a pair of brown Scotch tweed Ditto, ditto ; a pair of brown mixture cloth Ditto, ditto; a brown cloth Coat; a black cloth Coat, Vest, and Trousers ( fob pockets), man's size ; a pair of black cloth Trousers, fall front ; a large black cloth Alexander Jacket, trimmed on the back with two black silk tassels, crape round the neck, and three black buttons up the front; a black watered silk Dress, trimmed with black velvet on the s' » " es about 2 inches deep, black buttons down the front to tue waist, plain skirt with a broad hem at the bottom ; a black merino Shawl, with black silk fringe on three sides ; a black silk Cape, trimmed with black velvet and fringe, woman's size ; a meerschaum Pipe and Case; and a composition Snuff Box. Two persons of the following des- cription, who were seen about the premises are suspected : one a man, native of Burnley, about 24 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, stoutly built, full face, fair complexion, dark brown hair, no whiskers ; dressed in a blue cloth jacket, light woollen cord trousers, black billycock hat, turn- down collar, and fancy necktie. The other a woman, about 31 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, hazel eyes, dark brown hair, fresh complexion, Roman nose, good looking, a prostitute ; dressed in a light print dress, dark shawl and bonnet. Information to be given to the Chief Constable, Borough Police Office, Roch- dale.— Bonn- street, November 30. Stolen on the night of the 23rd instant, by means of house- breaking, from Mr. Wilson's, Drylaw House, near Edinburgh: 12 Table Forks, 12 Table Spoons, 12 Dessert Spoons, 30 Dessert Forks, 12 Tea Spoons, fi Toddy Ladles, 4 Gravy Spoons, 18 Dessert Knives, 1!) Fish Knives, 1 Fish Fork, 8 Salt Spoons, 1 Soup Ladle, 8 Egg Spoons, 4 Sauce Ladles, 1 Sugar Ladle, two Butter Knives, 3 Pickle Forks, 1 Marrow Spoon, 2 pairs of Nut- crackers, 1 Cheese Digger, and 1 pair of Grape Scissors, all electro- plated and marked on the handles ' G. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, nM Letters addressed to the Editor must be lircimit!, ofherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from the regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Mall, London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. INFORMATIONS. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. Absconded from Oakfields, near Ryde, Isle of Wight, on } he 20th instant, charged with night poaching and wounding, with intent to murder, one Charles Bullock, a gamekeeper, WILLIAM CHESSELL, alias BOWERS, 23 years of a; about 5 feet 8 inches high, stoutly built, full face, pale com- plexion, little light- coloured whiskers; dressed in an old blue monkey jacket, rather long and ragged, double- breasted mole- skin waistcoat, dirty moleskin trousers, heavy lace- up boots with low uppers, and blue cloth cap with peak ; has a dirty appearance, and will most likely seek for work on a railway or at draining. ,£ 10 reward will be paid on his apprehension. Information to be given to Superintendent Edmund Horan, Hants Constabulary, Newport, isle of Wight, who holds a warrant for his apprehension, or at any of the Constabulary Stations in Hampshire.— Bow- street, November 28. . On the night of the 23rd instant, some person or persops attempted to murder Mr. Richard Ockenden, shoemaker, Easthoathly, Sussex, by filing a gun or pistol loaded with shot through the window of the shop iu which Mr. Ockenden was then at work. A reward of £ 20 will be paid to any person giving such information as will lead to apprehension and con- viction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Superintendent Bennett, Uckfield, Sussex, or at any Police Station in East Sussex. - Bow- street, November 25. has a small § pot of Chinese ink between thumb and first finger of right hand ; dressed when last seen in a low crowned darkish coloured new cloth hat, dark coloured tight fitting top coat, and dark leggings reaching to the thigh ; he had a new small black " travelling bag, with strap over shoulder; and a silver lever watch, fancy dial, two holes jewelled, No. 7710, with gold albert chain, and new round locket attached. Informa- tion to be given to Robert Blair, Esq., Procurator- Fiscal, Greenock ; or to. Superintendent D. Dewar, of Greenock Police.— Bow- street, November 28. Absconded from Nottingham, charged with forgery, THOMAS LEWIN, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, a joiner, fresh complexion, round face, very broad set, brown hair, no whiskers, and walks very erect; dressed in brown mixture jacket, waistcoat and trousers, and light straw hat. Information to be given to Chief Constable J. Hedington, Borough Police Station, Nottingham, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, November 28. FORGERY. Description of HENRY MORTON, formerly a clerk in the War Office, was afterwards for some years on the continent, and has of late years been living in London ; he absconded from Ripon on the 22nd instant, after forging and uttering a cheque for the payment of £ 20, drawn upon Messrs. Hoare and Co., London, and purporting to be signed by Henry Arthur Hoare, with intent to defraud the York City and County Banking Company, Ripon. He is about 60 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, of good address, thin and very slightly built, light brown hair mixed with grey, fresh face, prominent nose, rather large hazel eyes, wears spectacles, and has a peculiar way of looking hard at people when passing them in the street, turns out his toes, and walks with a shuffling gait; dressed, when he- left Ripon, in a dark brown loose sac cloth coat, black cloth trousers, wild large high- crowned black hat, turned up at the sides rather curiously : one of his arms, which he stated was injured a short time ago, will perhaps be in a sling. He is an eccentric- looking person, is well known in London as a begging letter impostor, and has Ixwi in several prisons for various offences. The notes be obtained for the cheque were three £ 5 York City and County Bank Notes ( two of the Ripon Branch Bank, and one of the Branch Bank of Howden, York- shire), and the remainder in Gold and Silver. Information to be given to William Burniston, Chief Borough Police Officer, ItipOn, who holds a warrant for his apprehension, and will pay any reasonable expenses that'may be incurred-- Bowstreet, November 30. On the 21st instant a forged National Bank of Scotland Cheque for £ 190, subscribed ' Wm. Adam & Coy.', was pre- sented at the office of the said bank in Greenock by JOHN McDOUGALL, for whose apprehension a warrant has been granted. The cheque was cashed, and the money received by the accused, consisted of one £ 100 Note, four £ 20 Notes, and one £ 10 Note, all of the National Bank. The accused ( who was clerk to Wm. Adams and Co.) absconded on the same afternoon and proceeded to Glasgow, where he took a first- class ticket that evening at Bridge- street station,: per the South- western Railway, for London, leaving Glasgow at 8T0; he had then with him a bottle of brandy, was under the influence of liquor, and hoarse from cold; he had a travelling bag flung over his shoulder, and wore a new dark cloth hat. He is about 21 years of age, nearly 5 feet 10 inches high, slender make, dark complexion, large dark eyes, short black hair, no whis- kers, thick lips, nose flat on bridge, having been broken, and ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen on the 17th instant, from a gentleman on board the barque ' Clarence,' in the West India Docks, a silver lever Watch, maker Monscombe, Liverpool, ' James Campbell' on inside case.— Metropolitan Police, K Division, November 25. Stolen from the person of a gentleman at Barnsley, about 10 p. m. on the 21st instant : a silver lever Watch, No. 17567, had attached a strong small- linked silver Guard ; a gold scarf Pin, representing a horse shoe with whip across; a black felt billycock Hat; and a red and white silk Handkerchief. A reward of £ 2 is offered for the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders, and recovery of the property. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Greenhalgh, West Riding Constabulary, Barnsley.— Bow- street, November 25. Stolen from the person of a gentleman in the borough < * Bolton, on the 21st instant, a patent silver lever Watch, No. 45247, the thief is in custody, but the property is not yet reco- vered. Information to be given to Mr. James Harris, Chief Constable, Bolton, Lancashire.— Bow- street, November 25. Stolen on the 22nd instant, from the person of a gentle- man in Manchester, a gold skeleton lever Watch, maker W. McFarren, Manchester, No. 5760. Any person giving such information as will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders and recovery of the watch, shall receive £ 5 reward, on application to Captain Palin, Chief Con- stable, Town Hall, King- street Manchester.— Bow- street, No- vember 25. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Stolen by means of housebreaking on the evening of the the 27th instant, between the hours of 6 and 8, from the pre- mises of Mr. John Higgs, at Maidenhead, the following pro- perty : a lady's gold Watch and Chain ; half a dozen silver Dessert Spoons ; five Table Spoons ; half a dozen Tea Spoons ; two Salt Spoons, ' S. L.'; some loose Gold ; a new silver Snuff Box ; and two new light Umbrellas. Two men who were seen in the neighbourhood with a dog cart are suspected : one about 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high stout, no whiskers ; dressed in dark clothes, top coat, and hat. The other about 27 or 28 years of age, short, thick set, and had the appearance of « costermonger, and appeared to be red in the face ; dressed very loosely about the neck in a coloured handkerchief, light dirty looking trousers and vest, dark old- fashioned brown over- coat, and a small dark billycock hat. The horse was about 15 hands high, dark ; the dog cart was rather low for the horse, and appeared dirty and old. Information to be given to Super- intendent II. MacGran, Borough Police, Maidenhead, Berks.— Bow- street, November 30. Stolen from Scaleby Rectory, by means of housebreaking, on the night of the 21st instant : 4 table Spoons, 4 table Forks, 4 dessert Spoons, 4 dessert Forks, 7 tea Spoons, 2 salt Spoons, 1 butter Knife, and 1 carving Fork, all silver, shell pattern, crest— an Eagle, and a rampant lion holding a crown in his fore paws ; a pair of silver sugar Tongs, without crest ; a plated round bed Candlestick, with beaded edge ; 1 set of plated dessert Knives and Forks, with ivory handles, fluted pattern ; I set of plated tea Service, embossed pattern, with beaded edges, consisting of Tepaot, Coffeepot, sugar Basin, cream Jug, cake Basket, and toast Rack ; and 1 bottle of Brandy ; the property of the Rev. Mr. Shipman. £ 5 reward will be given to any person or persons who will give such information as will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given at the County Chief Constable's Office, Carlisle.— Bow- street, November 30. During the night of the 22nd instant, the dwelling- house of Miss Gorton, in Mosley- street, Burton- on- Trent, was forcibly entered by the back window, and the following property stolen : a large woollen shepherd plaid Shawl, a lady's dark mixture tweed Cloak with hood, an alpaca Umbrella, a pair of lady's kid Boots, a Book, ' The Lamplighter,' and a black round Hat. Information to be given to Superintendent Keith, Police Station, Burton- on- Trent, or at any Pelice Station in Staffordshire.— Bow- street, November 30. A man, named CHARLES LEVILLE, of Cambridge, has been apprehended at Sleaford, Lincolnshire, on the charge of breaking into the house at Frampton, advertised in the Police On the night of the 23rd instant, Oakley Hall, near Kettering, the residence of Colonel Pearson, was broken into and the following articles stolen therefrom :— 2 siver Candlesticks, embossed, about 12 inches high. 1 ditto ditto, chased, about 6 inches high. 2 bunches of Seals, chiefly gold mounted ( one a small blood stone, with crest— an eagle's head ; one large, with crest— an eagle's head, and ' J. II. P.' in old English ; one a large cornelian, shield pattern, with crest on top— a winged hand. 1 small French china Spill Case, a cupid on a cloud with bow in hand painted on it. 2 Chateleines, 12 inches high, some of the ornaments gold and some silver gilt, amongst them a gold Watch with embossed back. 1 papier mache Workbox, about 12 inches long, lined with blue velvet, containing gold Thimble, gold Bodkin, gold- handled Scissors, & c. 1 circular silver- gilt Ornament, chased, bowl shaped, 2 inches in diameter. 1 small Tobacco Case, and a small round Box, containing an ivory Dice Box, taken out of a Japanese cabinet. The silver Mountings of a dressing- case, with crest— an eagle's head, 1 large silver Inkstand, oblong shape, about 10 inches long, crest— eagle's head, and Ink Bottle with silver top. 1 gold Pin, round ; 1 gold and pink coral ditto, horse- shoe shape. 1 silver Strike- light, with crest— an eagle's head. Portmonnaie, containing a £ 5 Bank of England Note, and £ 5 or £ 6 in Gold. 1 Cigar Case of red velvet, with snap. 1 black cloth Chesterfield Coat, made of fine cloth, worn as a morning coat, double- breasted, two rows of plain black buttons, two side pockets and breast pocket outside, two pockets inside with buttons, corners of side pockets outside close to buttons, bound round edges and pockets with silk cord, may have the initials ' J. H. P.' under the loop inside the collar. A reward of £ 20 will be paid to any person giving such infor- mation as may lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders, and recovery of the stolen property. Information to be given to Superintendent W. Stoker, County Constabulary, Kettering, or at any of the Police Stations in the county of Northampton.— Bow- street, November 30. Between 11 a. m. and 3 p. m. on the 16th instant, the dwell- ing- house of George Sayers, South Flats, Bowes, was broken and entered, and the following property stolen therefrom : eleven silver tea Spoons, marked ' I. G.'; four salt Spoons, two marked ' I, G,' and two not marked; two mustard Spoons, one german silver the other plated ; a silver Brooch, flowered and imitation of pncil in centre, and a leaf at each side ; > a pair of Stolen by means of housebreaking between 7 and 11 p. m. on the 19th instant, from No. 37, Tank- road, in the borough of jointed Bracelets, set with cornelian stones, and broad . claspsto j Reading, the following articles: a dark rough Over Coat, fasten ; twoplated spirit Lables, for Whiskey and Brandy, with small Chains attached ; two gold Rings, one set with several pink stones, the other with white stone in centre, and small coloured ones round it; a gold watch Guard, with gold Pencil- case attached; two gold flowered Studs; and about £ 12 in Money. Also about, the same time and place, the dwelling- house of W. Wharton, was broken and entered, and an old- fashioned silver Watch stolen therefrom, ' G. W. 1796' on back of inside case, ' St. Bartholomew, London' on works, supposed No. 1896. Three men of the following description who were seen in the neighbourhood are suspected : one, about 40 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, light ( rather inclined to ginger) hair and small whiskers; , dressed in black coat with pockets behind,, drab woollen cord trousers, and round soft quilted cap ; another, from 20 to 25 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high ; dressed in dark dress and cap : and the other, from 25 to 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high ; dressed in grey suit and cap, trousers fit tight to the leg, and has the appearance of a jockey- or stable- man. Information to be given to Inspector Joseph Martindale, North Riding Constabulary, Greta Bridge, Yorkshire. — Bow- street, November 28. v Between 12 at noon on the 26th and 7 a. m. on the 27th instant_ the dwelling- house of Colonel George Bingham, of Csrlton- road, Whalley Range Moss- side, was broken and entered, and the following property stolen therefrom : a linen Table Cloth, diamond pattern, marked ' Bingham, No. 3' ; a ditto, marked ' Bingham, No. 6 '; 9 lbs. of fresh Butler ; 8 lbs. of Ham ; and six pint bottles of Porter. Entrance was effected by removing the grid from the cellar window. Information to be given to the Superintendent of the County Police, Old Trafford, near Manchester.— Bow- street, November 28. Between 6- 30 and 7- 45 a. m. on the 26th inst., the dwelling- house of James Byrome, of Gorton- lane, Openshaw, book- keeper, was entered by a duplicate key, and the following property stolen therefrom : a black cloth Dress Coat, lined with black alpaca, two pockets in the skirts, the cuffs turned up with black velvet; a black cloth Frock Coat, lined with black alpaca, two pockets in the skirts behind, one inside left, breast, narrow sleeves, and much worn ; a pair of black cloth Trousers, fall fronts, and lined with twilled calico ; a black cloth Vest, lined with pink calico, buttons up to the neck vi ith covered buttons ; a woollen Shawl, with grey and red stripes round the border ; two pairs of men's red flannel Drawers, much worn ; a pair of small brass Scales, with steel beam, green strings, and three small weights. Information to be given to the Superintendent of the County Police, Old Trafford, near Man- chester.— Bow- street, November 28. On the night of the 20th instant the Lichfield Union Workhouse was broken into, and the following property stolen therefrom : a rosewood Workbox, about 18 inches long; a small morocco Workbox, ( with a drawer), standing on four brass feet; a Church Service in a case ; a large Bible ; a large Geography and other small Books; a round crozier Table Cloth ; three pieces of Coverings for Sofa and Chairs. Who- ever will give such information as shall lead to the conviction of the offender or offenders will be rewarded. Information to be given to Superintendent Ryder, Police Station, Lichfield.— Bow street, November 28. By three men : one, 40 years of age, 5 feet 9f inches high, slender, fair complexion, fresh colour, long nose and features, small sandy whiskers on lower part of face, rather long brown hair ; dressed in dark walking coat, grey mixture overcoat, black trousers, and hat. Another 28 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, dark ( pale) complexion, pockpitted, small dark whiskers; dressed in black walking coat, trousers, and hat. And the other, 25 years of' age, 5 feet 6 inches high, fair complexion, dull looking, apparently weak eyes, dark curly hair ; dressed in dark walking coat and black hat; wore a ring with red stone on little finger of right hand, and gold albei t chain. £ 50 reward will be paid to any person giving such infor- mation as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offenders and recovery of the property, or in proportion thereof; and.£ 25 reward will be paid for such information as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offenders oilly.— Metropolitan Police, F Division, November 28. The following property was stolen from two dwelling- house? which weie broken and entered at Warrington, Lanca- shire, during the night of the 24th instant: three striped linen Shirts, the sleeves and collar of one are rather different from the other part, all are quite new ; a striped cotton Shirt, also new, but torn at the back ; a caddy Sheet, recently washed ; a pair of men's Kendal knit grey worsted Stockings; £ lb. of thick Twist Tobacco, made up in half- ounces in newspaper ; 1 lb. of Shag Tobacco ; about 9 lbs. of Bacon ; and about 9s. Information to be given to Chief Constable John S. Mac- michael, Warrington, Lancashire.— Bow- street, November 28. During the night of the 24th instant the shop of John Philipson, stationer, Tynemouth, was broken and entered, and the following property stolen therefrom : about £ 5 in penny Postage Stamps, about £ 4 in penny Receipt Stamps, about 10s. in twopenny Postage Stamps, about 6s. in fourpenny ditto, about 6s. in sixpenny ditto, four fourpenny Pieces, about 3s. 6d. in Copper, and a number of fancy Pencils and Purses of various patterns. Information to be given to Chief Constable John Hewett, Tynemouth.— Bow- street, November 28. pockets at the sides, one inside breast pocket, and red and black plaid lining ; a black cloth Coat, with three pockets and covered buttons ; a pair of black cloth Trousers, with fall front; a single- breaBted black cloth Vest ; a black and white woollen Scarf ; a red and white striped ditto; a pair of half Wellington Boots, newly half heeled ; a black Scarf Shawl, has been neatly darned at one corner ; a brown alpaca Dress, skirt trimmed with black velvet, and sleeves with stamped velvet; a mohair Dress, with imitation flounces : a white calico Shirt; a white Petticoat, with broad hem and five tucks ; and a rough short brown Cloak, trimmed with velvet. Information to' be given to Chief Superintendent John Peck, Borough Police Office, Reading.— Bow- street, November 25. A man named JOHN GILL, alias QUARRY, is charged with having at the borough of Wigan, on the 14th instant, feloniously stolen a Horse, which has since been recovered, and for whose apprehension a warrant has been issued : he is about 24 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, very dark hair and complexion, bad teeth, very thick lips, proportionately made ; supposed to be dressed in a pair of cord trousers and blue slop. He is a boatman and usually plies between Liverpool, Man- chester, and Runcorn, as an assistant to coal boats, and is well known on the banks of the canal between the above- named places. He was seen on the 19th instant assisting to discharge a coal boat at Liverpool, and has been in the habit of frequent- ing a beer- house in Vauxhall- road, Liverpool, kept by a man named James Wright. Chinn, jeweller, John William- street, Hudderfield, and stole therefrom a gold lever Watch, engraved cases, white dial, No. 8420; a large gold duplex Watch, bold figures, gold dial, plain back, No. 62913 ; and a gold Pencilcase in morocco leather case. A warrant has been issued against a man named BROOKS, charged with stealing from his lodgings in Ellesmere, on the 24th instant, a small gold Locket in the shape of a heart, has black and brown hair in it, the property of Ralph Corns : Brooks is between 60 ond 70 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, white hair ( combed back in front and cut square behind), and round shouldered ; dressed in an old grey tweed suit, a pair of button cloth boots, one of which is cut in fornt, and an old jimcrow hat; has a bad leg and walks lame. He stated that he came from Pendleton, near Manchester, and that he formerly iived in Old Eccles- road, opposite the New Church. Description of ROBERT EDWARDS, against whom a warrant was issued at Gloucester on the 28th instant, charged with obtaining by false pretences several sums of money from persons in South Wales, by representing himself as a deputy agent to the Crown Commissioners, and authorised to sell waste land belonging to Her Majesty in the counties of Glamorgan and Cardigan, which he has done in several instances, having brought the purchasers to Gloucester, where the conveyances were drawn up, aud where he received the purchase money: he is from 35 to 40 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, walks erect, black hair and whiskers, speaks English and Welsh, and has lost one of his front teeth, which affects his speech a little ; dressed when last seen in Gloucester ( on the 10th instant), in a Scotch cap, shooting coat with a little red stripe in it, trousers of the same material, black patent leather leggings over the trousers. One, gives his name WILLIAM REYNOLDS, a native of Grenoside, near Sheffield, a navvy, - ii> years of age, about 5 feet 7 inches high, stoutly made, dark hair and complexion ; dressed in rough hairy cap, twilled slop, white fustian trousers, checked shirt, and strong lace- up boots ; states that, he has recently been working at some public works at Stockton- on- Tees for Mr. Bell, contractor. The other RICHARD RICHARDS, states that he is a native of Letton, near Hereford, 29 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, pale complexion, brown hair and whiskers; dressed in old brown cloth coat, old fustian trousers, round tommy hut, and strong lace- up boots; states that he has recently been working at the Rosedale Iron Mines in the North Riding of Yorkshire. Description of two persons committed for trial at the winter assizes, on the 3rd Dec. next, for the county of Leicester, charged with breaking the shop window of a clock and watch maker at Lutterworth, and stealing a gold Watch therefrom : JAMES HEMSWORTH, labourer, states he is a native of Carcroft, near Doncaster, but has lately been tramping about Birming- ham, and other parts of the country, 18 years of age, 5 feet 7j inches high, dark brown hair, brown eyes, fresh complexion, round visage, rather stout made, has a cataract on left " eye, by which he is nearly blind, a large white speck nearly on the sight of right eye, a large scar of cut on the knuckle of left little finger, which causes it to be contracted ; supposed to have been in Wakefield, and other Houses of Correction. THOMAS BALL, a labourer, a native of Leicester, but states he has been tramping about Birmingham, and other parts of the country, 21 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, brown hair, blue eyes, fair complexion, middle made, a large nose, blue mark, which he states is intended to represent a pipe, and several dots, on back of left arm, a two- pronged fork and four blue dots on the back of left wrist, all in blue ink. C. Chapman,' three coats, one light blouse with two pockets, a butcher's blue coat with two pockets behind and one in breast, the other a dark brown overcoat with two pockets behind and one inside breast; he stated that he came from Brighton and was a native of London, but refused to give his address. He was apprehended at Hellingby, Sussex, with the above property in his possession on the 21st instant. He is remanded to the 26th instant. Description of a man in custody at Wigton, Cumberland, under remand until the 29th instant, charged with obtaining money by false pretences, that is to say, by uttering a forged bill in the following form:— "£ 10.0.0. Wigton, 23rd November, 1864. Two months after date pay to my order in Wigton the sum of ten pounds value received, Thomas Bell. To Mr. George Bell, Ship Owner, Sunderland." and thereby obtaining 2s. from Mrs. Gate, inn- keeper,' Wheat Sheaf,' Wigton. The bill was endorsed across the cheque in red ink. He gave the name of THOMAS BELL, and states that he is a seaman, and a native of Sunderland, 55 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, sallow complexion, small grey whiskers, hair slightly grey, grey eyes, black heavy eyebrows, and stoutly made ; dressed in blue cloth round jacket, waist- coat, and trousers, ditto cap with peak, and strong lace- up shoes.
