POLICE GAZETTE CONTAINING The substance of all Informations received in cases of Felony, and of Misdemeanors of an aggravated nature, and against Receivers of Stolen Goods, reputes Thieves, and Offenders escaped from Custody, with the time, the place, and the circumstance of the Offence. The Names of persons charged with Offences who are known but not in custody, and a Description of those who are not known, their Appearance, Dress, and other mar'ics of identity. The Names of Accomplices and Accessories, ivith every particular which may lead to their Apprehension. V Whenever it is desired that any person should Oe appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all betters addressed to the Edito. must be prepaid, otherwise tile insertion will not be made. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from the regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be • addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Mall, London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. INFORMATIONS. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. Description of two men who are charged upon a Sheriff Warrant, with violently assaulting a man and his wife with whom they had been lodging at Dalmuir, Dumbartonshire, on the evening of the 20th instant: JOHN LYONS, labourer, a native of Ireland, 25 years of age, 5 feet inches high, fresh complexion, black eyes, dark brown hair, very small whiskers, stoutly made, and good looking ; dressed, when last seen, in a moleskin vest with sleeve^ ( rather dirty), brown vest, blue cloth trousers, dark cloth cap, striped shirt, and navvie boots. MICHAEL LYONS, labourer, a native of Ireland, 23 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, fresh complexion, blue staring eyes, fair hair, no whiskers, very stout made, and good looking ; dressed, when last seen, in a moleskin sleeved vest and trousers ( very dirty), black cloth cap, striped shirt, and navvie boots. They applied for employment, which they did not obtain, at Leith Docks, on the 23rd instant, and they will likely apply for similar employment elsewhere, or they may get work on some railway. Information to be given to the Chief Constable of Dumbartonshire, who will pay all expenses incurred by the apprehension and detention of the offenders.— Bow- st., June 29. On the morning of the 24th instant, the dead body of a full giown new- born female child was found at the night- soil depot, Seven Stairs Bridge, Wigan, Lancashire, and is supposed to have been removed there from some of the privies in the town, during cleansing ; the body was naked, and the umbili- cal cord had been torn away. An inque9t was held on the body, the same day, and the jury returned a verdict of ' Wilful Murder against some person or persons unknown.' Informa- tion to be given to nr. William Simm, Chief Constable, Wigan. — Bow- street. June 29. Stolen from the person of William Roberts, at Lower Bebington, Cheshire, about 12 o'clock midnight, of the 25th • nstant: a silver patent lever Watch, No. 581, maker's name Pierrepont,, Liverpool, engine- turned case, gold joints and figures, and had about two inches of a silver Guard attached to the bow. Information to be given to Mr. Thomas Hammond, Superintendent of County Police, Abbey- street, Birkenhead.— Row- street, June 29. Stolen on the 24th instant, from the person of a gentleman, a gold lever Watch, enamel dial, engine- turned cases, maker Thomas Armstrong, Manchester, No. 66597. Any person giving such information as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the thief or thieves, and recovery of the watch, shall receive £ 4 reward, on application to Captain Palin, Chief Constable, Town Hall, King- street, Manchester. - Bow- street, June 29. Stolen from the person of James Jordison, Of Spa House, near Thirsk, in the North Riding of Yorkshire, at Borobridge horse fair, on the 22nd instant, an old- fashioned small Bilver verge Watch, very small at the neck, very large old- fashioned figures, had a small steel curb Chain, to which was attached two Keys ( one broken) and a very old Sixpence, maker's name Deux Bowley, London, No. 2481. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Simpson, or to Alexander Campbell, Sergeant of Police, Wath, near Ripon, North Riding of York- shire.— Bow- street, June 29. Stolen from the person, in the Longrow of Campbeltown, Argyllshire, on the niaht ot the 21st instant, a patent lever gold Watch, British make. No. 707, inscription oil the inner case, ' Presented to John Wallace, Clerk, by the Supervisors and Officers of Argyll North Collection, as a Testimonial of respect. Oban, Feby., 1850.' Supposed to have been stolen by one of the Argyll and Bute Artillery Militia. £ 5 reward will be paid to any person who will give such information as will lead to the recovery of the said watch, and conviction of the offender or offenders. Stolen from the person during the Volunteer Review, at Doncaster, on the 20th instant : a silver Geneva Watch, No. 20,628. maker Mouline, Geneva ; a silver Geneva Watch, engine- turned case, gilt border round edge, ornament on outer case, several words engraved on inner case, amongst them are ' Cylindre 5 Rubis'; a silver lever Watch, No. 1779, maker Taffinder, Rotherham, engraved on case J. Windle, Kilnhurst, Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Isaac Gregory, Guildhall, Doncaster, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, June. 27. mation to be given to Mr. Superintendent Cockshott, West Riding Constabulary, Settle, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, June 29. Between the 18th ultimo and the 16th instant, the dwell- ing- house of John Laurence, Esq., Morpeth, was broken and entered, and the following articles stolen therefrom: a white metal Candlestick, 9 inches high ; a ditto Pepper Caster, com- mon shape ; a ditto Salt Celler, round, with running flower round the edge, was originally silvered over, but is now effec- tually worn off; two German silver Tea Spoons, not marked ; and a claw Hammer with round shaft. Information to be given to Major Brown, Chief Constable, Alnwick ; or to Mr. Superintendent Robert Cocks, Morpeth, Northumberland.— Bow- street, June 27. ARSON AND WILFUL BURNING. Between 12 and 1 a. m. on the 3rd instant, a large stack of straw, at Tandridge, Surrey, was discovered to be on fire. Sup- posed to be the act of an incendiary. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent A. H. Bungard, Surrey Constabulary, Godstone.— Bow- street, July 4. Description of an Irishman who is charged with setting fire to several farm buildings and stacks in the neighbourhood of Daresbury, Cheshire, the last offences were committed on the 23rd instant: lie is very tall, 40 to 50 years of age, dark com- plexion, and round shouldered ; dressed in a grey frieze coat, cap, trousers ragged and out at knees, shoes much worn and cut across the upper- leathers at the toes. Information to be given to the Superintendent of Constabulary, Lymm, Cheshire. — Bow- street, June 29. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the person of a gentleman in Ashton- under- Lyne, about 11 p. m. on the 2nd instant, a small silver lever Watch, sunk seconds, maker's name William Agar, Bury, No. 1889, had attached a gold Albert Guard. By a female, about 30 years of age, 5 feet hijjh, dark complexion, and long sharp nose, Information to be given to Mr. George Dalgleish, Chief Constable, Town Hall, Ashton- under- Lyne.— Bow- street, July 4. As Joseph Gaulick, of Barnsley, was proceeding on the Pontefract- road, near Barnsley, in the West Riding of York- shire, and when near to Beever Hall, about 12' 30 a. m. on the 30th ult,, he was attacked by two men, one of whom knocked him down, when the other rifled his pockets, and took from him a silver verge Watch, No. 20470, witli silver- plated Guard attached. The man who robbed him is about 25 or 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, stoutly made, and has no whiskers ; dressed in dark clothes and light cape : the other cannot be described. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Greenhalgh, West Ijtiding Constabulary, Barnsley, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, July 1. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. On the night of the 1st instant, the establishment of Mr. Williams, glove manufacturer, Edgar- street, Worcester, was broken and entered, and about forty doz^ n pairs of gentlemen's calf- skin Gloves, and six pairs of ladies' long ditto, in violet, nut- brown, green, and chocolate colour?, and marked ' W. W.' W. on the inside near the fingers, stolen therefrom. A reward of £ 20 will be given for such information as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders, and recovery of the property, or a sum in proportion to the amount recovered. Information to be given to the Head Constable of the Worcester City Police.— Bow- street, July 4. Stolen from a cottage by means of breaking and entering, near Battlefield, Shrewsbury, on the 2nd instant, supposed by a tramp: a black cloth Coat, nearly new, two pockets outside ; a black cloth single- breasted Vest, covered buttons ; a black silk single- breasted Vest; two Shirts, one printed cotton with red flowers, ' lie other fine calico; two pairs of black, cloth Trousers, one ribbed, the other blue stripe across ; a black cloth Coat, small size ; a small black cloth Vest; a red spotted tweed Vest ; a pair of old cord Trousers ; a pair of thin Shoes, fresh soled ; and a blue and white bundle Hand- kerchief. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent J. Ivins, Shrewsbury.— Bow- street, July 4. Between the hours of 2 and 5 p. m. on the 25th ultimo, the cottage of Timothy Hawkes, Budbroke, Warwick, was broken and entered, and the following property stolen there from : an old- fashioned silver Watch, maker's name Haywood, London ; 2 old linen Sheets; two old calico Shirts ; and a black silk Handkerchief. Supposed by a man about 5 ft. 8 ins. high, slender make, no whiskers, and lias the appearance of a navvy ; dressed in dark trousers, white slop, and blue cap. Information to be given to Inspector Samuel Harris, Henley- in- Arden, or to P. C. Charles Barter, Hatton, near Warwick.— Bow- street, July 1. Between the hours of 12' 30 and 6 a. m. on the 26th instant, the dwelling- house and Bhop of Robert Duckworth, draper, Rimmington, Yorkshire, was broken and entered, and the following property stolen therefrom, viz: 9 yards of Coburg, puce colour ; 40 yards of ditto, light and drab plaided ; 9 yards of ditto, black ; 7 yards of blue Flannel; 17 yards of Orleans, snuff colour ; 17 yards of ditto, drab; 17 yards of ditto, light and drab plaid ; 32 yards of Barege, square plaid ; 12 yards of black Diaper ; 18 yards of Alpaca, black and white ; 8 yards of cotton check Shirting, blue and white ; . 12 yards of plain Calico; 40 pairs of men's and women's cotton Stockings, drab and black and white; and a quantity of copper Coin, Infor- HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Supposed to have been stolen from a field at Biddulph, in the county of Stafford, between the 25th and 28th ultimo, two Ponies, one a black horse, about 12 hands high, a few white hairs on the face, a small white mark on the back, and aged ; the other is a light bay mare, 4 years old, 12 hands high, and newly shod. Information to be given to Inspector Scott, Tunstall, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, July 4. The young man giving the name of OLDFIELD, charged with stealing a Donkey at Whittlesey, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 29th ultimo, has been apprehended and com- mitted for trial.— Bow- street, July 4. The Horse supposed to have been stolen from Malin Bridge, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 27th ultimo, has been found and restored to the owner.— Bow street, July 4. Supposed to have been stolen, from afield in the occupation of J. Davies, ' Crown' inn, Rhayader, Radnorshire, between the hours of 10 p. m. on the 28th. and 6 a. m. on the 29th ult., a bright bay draught Mare, aged, between 14 and 15 hands high, has a white fetlock, two small lungs on the hind legs, a white blaze down the face, and half the. upper part of one of t; » eyelids torn off. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Constance, Penybont, Radnor- shire.— Bow- street, July 4. Supposed to have been stolen from a field near Bridgend, on the night of the 1st instant, a bay cob Horse, rising 5 years old, rather prominent over the eyes, and long tail. Informa- tion to be given to Richard Sadler, Superintendent of County Constabulary, Bridgend, Glamorgan.— Bow- street, July 4. Supposed to have been stolen on the n'ght of the 30th ultimo, from a field in the parish of Manningtree, Essex, a bright bay horse Pony, about 13 hands high, aged, a few grey hairs each side of face, long tail cut square, both knees chipped, and saddle mark on withers ; the property of William Jatrold, Information to be given to Mr. R. Banks, Inspector of Police, Police Station, Mistley, Essex.— Bow- street, July 4. Supposed to have been stolen between the 19th and 25th ultimo, from Ashdown i' orest. Maresfield, Sussex, a dark brown Mare, aged, about 14 hands high, star on forehead, one fore and one hind foot white ; the property of Charles Marchant. In- formation to be given to Mr. Superintendent Bennett, Uckfield, or at any Police Station in East Sussex.— Bow- street, July 4. Description of JOHN MORRIS, of Pantycrasty, farmer, in the parish of Llanwnog, Montgomeryshire, who has ab- sconded charged with stealing a Sheep : he is about 35 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, dark brown hair, small whiskers, sallow complexion, freckled face, the bridge of his nose has been broken and flattened, and he turns out his feet very much when walking. He will probably endeavour to leave the cmntry. Information to be given at the Superinten- dent's Office, Newtown, or to P. C. Pearson, Caersws, Mont- gomeryshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, July 1. Supposed to have been stolen, on the night of the 23rd instant, from a field at Oxspring, in the West Riding of York- shire, the property of Mr. W. Wordsworth, a light bay Filly, 3 years old, 14j hands high, white hind foot, lump about the size of a marble on nose, and is in good condition. Inforiiiation to be given to Mr. Superintendent Greenhalgh, West Riding Constabulary, Barnsley, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, June 29. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Abfconded on the 29th ultimo, from No. 29, Wellclose- square, St. George's East, stealing £ 40, a man, 25 years of age, 5 feet 10| inches high, sallow complexion, black hair and whiskers, scar over right eye; dressed in light witney coat, light moleskin trousers, black cloth vest, red shirt, black felt hat, and Wellington boots.— Metropolitan Police, H Division, July 4. Absconded on the 29th ultimo, from the ' Three Kings' public- house, No. 17, Davies- street, Berkeley- square, stealing £ 1, a man, 50 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, fair com- plexion, grey hair, full face, black eyes ; dressed in black coat and trousers, brown vest, and blucher boots.— Metropolitan Police, C Division, July 4. Stolen from a dwelling- house at Ross, Herefordshire, on the 30th ultimo, a single- cased silver hunting Watch, maker Joseph Cross, Ross, No. 161, has a large steel curb Chain attached. By a man of the following description : about 21 years of age, 6 feet 6 inches high, very fair, no whiskers or beard, his hair is cut very short and brushed off the forehead ; dressed in a Mack jacket and waistcoat, light plaid trousers, and elastic- side boots, the sole of lett boot has been repaired at the toe. He associates with singers and actors. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent E. C. Moore, Hereford Con- stabulary, Ross.— Bow- street, July 4. Stolen on the 14th ultimo, from No. 146, York- road, a Colt's patent revolver Pistol with five chambers, No. 4327. By a man, 30 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, stout, dark hair and eyes, black bushy whiskers and moustache ; dressed in light coat ( buttoned) and black hat: of shabby appearance. — Metropolitan Police, L Division, July 4. Stolen on the 28t. h ultimo, from No. 45, Princes- street, Deptford, three black ^ Coats, a shooting Coat, and a pair of doeskin Trousers. Bj* a man, 24 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, fair complexion, light hair; dressed in dark clothes.— Metropolitan Police, R Division, July 4. Absconded from Ipswich, on the 22nd ultimo, JOHN JESSOP, about 20 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, dark complexion, round face, brown hair, and grey eyes ; dressed in brown monkey jacket, blue guernsey, blue trousers, large in the leg, and blue cloth cap, with the word ' Cumberland' on the band ; had a tin case and a discharge from the Navy in his possession : has a scar on left Sfcnee, scar on head, scar on right leg from a scald, two men, flag, and anchor on left aim, a bracelet and two flags on left wrist, anchor on left hand, a sai'or holding a flag, and a crown on right arm, two stars, heart, crown, and anchor on right hand, all marked with Indian ink. He is charged with stealing a small Geneva Watch, engine- turned case, seconds hand, with brass Key attached, the property of William Rickwood. Information to be given to Mr. W. C. Mason, Head Constable, Town Hall, Ipswich, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, July 4. A warrant has been issued for the apprehension of one MARTIN alias HARRY BROWN, who is charged with stealing at Brighton, ou the 28th ultimo, a suit of Clothes, the property of his brother, which has been found pledged He lately lived at No. 6, St. John's- place, Brighton, is a labourer, but has been lately employed as a carter, is about 18 years of age, nearly 5 feet 2 inches high, fair complexion, rather pale, light hair, blue eyes, stoutly made, and supposed to be dressed in a moleskin jacket, cord trousers, and black cloth cap with peak. Information to be given to the Chief Constable, Town Hall, Brighton.— Bow- street, July 4. Absconded on the 29th ultimo from No. 28, Three Colt- street, Limehouse, stealing £ 4 4s, a man, 45 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, fair complexion, brown hair, thin long face, lame of right foot; dressed in black vest, mixture striped trousers, and old grey cap : has been a soldier.— Metropolitan Police, K Division, July 4. Stolen on the morning of the 25th ultimo, from a field at Sutton, in the parish of Iver, Bucks, a long snuff- coloured velveteen Jaket, which has since been found pledged at Uxbridge ; a cord Jacket, with fustian back and sleeves, two outside and one inside pockets. By a man about 35 years of age, thin, about 5 feet 9 inches high, very dark complexion, long black hair, and long full black whiskers ; dressed in a dirty flannel jacket,. black dirty cap< and dirty mixed or speckled trousers of a light colour, and bad shoes. Informa- tion to be given to Inspector Thomas Dunham, Iver, Bucks.— Bow- street, July 4. Absconded from the borough of Ashton- under- Lyne, charged with stealing a quantity of Whalebone from a shop on the 28th ultimo, a man about 35 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, dark complexion, and proportionately built ; dressed in an old linen jacket, dark trousers, shoes much worn, and dark cloth cap ; he is a travelling tinker or umbrella maker. Information to be given to Mr. Geo. Dalgliesh, Chief Constable, Ashton- under- Lyne.— Bow- street, July 1, Stolen on the 25th ult., from the bedroom of a Mrs. Douglass, confectioner, Foregate- street, Worcester, a Cheque on the Kidderminster and Stourport Bank for £ 12, drawn by Mr. Mantle, of Stourport, in favour of Mr. Aaron, and two £ 5 Notes of the same Bank, each bearing several endorsements, amongst them ' Miss H.' By a woman about 21 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, full face, dark hair and eyes, and fair com- plexion ; dressed in a yellow bonnet with mauve or violet feather and pink roses in front, black silk mantle, violet and white silk dress, and lavender gloves. Information to be given to the Worcester City Police.— Bow- street, July 1. Absconded from the borough of Cambridge, on the 28th ultimo, DAVID BUTTON, labourer, a native of Kenninghall, near East Harling, Norfolk, about 22 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, light hair, thin face, no whiskers, and small scar on right cheek ; dressed in a brown velvet coat, dark cord trousers, and brown cap ; charged with stealing a black velvet frock Coat ( four pockets outside and two inside), a pair of brown woollen Trousers with blue stripe, a pair of light Shoes, and a silk Handkerchief. Information to be given to Mr. W. G. Turrall, Head Constable, Cambridge, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, July 1. Absconded from Nottingham on the 28th ultimo, charged with embezzlement, SAMUEL WYNDELL MULLEN, alias MULLEYNS, 18 years of age, about 5 feet 5 inches high, rather dark complexion, small round face, mole on left cheek, no whiskers, very little hair on chin, thick lips, and very full about the mouth; dressed when last seen in light trousers, short black coat, high felt hat with cloth band round it, blue scarf, and buff collar ; he has probably made for some seaport town in search of a ship. Information to be given to Mr. J. Bedington, Chief Constable, Nottingham, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, July 1. Absconded from Coventry on the 1st instant, charged with embezzlement, JOSEPH BEAMISH, accountant, 35 to 40 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, dark hair and eyes, sallow blotchy complexion, dissipated appearance, skin rough about the mouth, and has two wens on his head, one over the left ear, which prevents his wearing a hat comfortably. Information to be given to Mr. John Norris, Chief of Police, Coventry, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, June 29. Absconded from Barnstaple, Devon, on the 18th instant, charged with embezzlement, JOHN FAIRCHILD, relieving officer of the Barnstaple Union, 40 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, grey eyes, florid complexion, dark hair and whiskers ( meeting), stoutly built, short neck, downcast look ; supposed to be dressed in light clothes : he will probably endeavour to emigrate. Information to be given to Mr. Blanchard, Chief Superintendent, Barnstaple, Devon.— Bow- street, June 29. Absconded on the 22nd instant, from Bontnewydd, near Carnarvon, charged with having stolen the Barrel of a gun, the property of David Brett, gamekeeper to N. Matthew, Esq., of Wem, which has been recovered: HENRY WILLIAMS, a smith, about 19 years of age, but appears to be about 22, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, rather stout, thick neck, marked with smallpox, and pimples on face, small whiskers; dressed in round fustian jacket with pockets outside, trousers and waist- coat of the same material; had a 2- foot rule with ' H. W.' on the brass, and his name written in full on the wood. He is supposed to have gone in the direction of Llanberris, and pro- bably is seeking work in some of the smithies. Information to he given to Cornelius Davies, Inspector of Police, Portmadoc. — Bow- street, June 29. Stolen from a lodging- house at Bingley, Yorkshire, on the morning of the 27th instant, five Hall- Sovereigns, one Penny, and oue Halfpenny ; also' a pair of men's elastic- side Boots, nearly new, patent leather fronts; and a jet Brooch. By a man about 22 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, fresh complexion, light sandy hair, slight moustache, and whiskers under chin; dressed in light grey cloth trousers, black co,. t and vest, and white straw hat with blue ribbon and anchor in front; he ' stated that he was an iron forger. SMITH ; generally has two boys with him, the oldest about 11 years of age. His first wife travels with a man, a hawker of cloth. A warrant has been issued for the apprehension of a man named CORNELIUS PROCTOR, a labourer, late of Wattis- ham, Suffolk, who is charged with committing a rape upon a girl 10 years of age. lie is about 5 feet high, 19 years of age, but looks younger, round fresh face, thick lips, dark hair and eyes, no whiskers, and rather round shouldered ; dressed when he absconded in a light sleeved waistcoat, dark cord trousers, and dark cloth cap with peak, he may have another suit with him, consisting ot a brown velveteen shooting frock coat < fc vest, dark cord trousers, and a round black felt hat ; he is supposed to be in the neighbourhood of Manningtree, Essex, having relatives living there ; he will probably apply at farm houses for work. Description of GEORGE WESTON, who is charged at Portsmouth with obtaining money by means of a false draft : he is about 24 years of age, 6 feet 6 or 7 inches high, thin dark brown whiskers, blue eyes, and fresh complexion ; dressed in a blue jacket with gilt buttons, blue vest and trousers, and cloth cap with peak ; a native of Devonport, and has been a cook in the Royal Navy, and will probably be found in some seaport town seeking similar employment in the merchant service. Obtained by false pretences from the house of Michael Knowland, of Goldenhill, Wolstanton, Staffordshire, on the 28t. h ultimo, a light grey round cloth Jacket, with two pockets outside, one inside, and one outside left breast. By an Irishman ahout 36 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, dark com- plexion, black bushy whiskers, and bald'head ; dressed in the said jacket, black cloth cap, black and white plaid trousers, brown vest, old low shoes, and red and black plaid shirt; stated that he was a blacksmith, from Manchester, and was going to work in the neighbourhood. Obtained from a lady at Boncliurch, Isle of Wight, on the 22nd instant, under false pretences, £ 12 in gold ; a £ 10 Bank ot England Note ; a £ 5 Bank of England Note; a gold Ring set with diamonds, in the shape of a shamrock ; a gold Ring with a raised cameo of a cherub's head ; a gold Ring with a white cornelion stone, crest and motto " Ne obliviscaris" ; and a white cambric Handkerchief, marked ' M. F. C.' incomer. By a woman of the following description : a gipsy, about 45 years of age, about 5 feet 3 inches high, middle stature, dark com- plexion, dark hair and eyes ; dressed in dark cotton dress with white spots, dark jacket with mantle, and black straw bonnet. She is supposed to hawk lace, as she had two baskets with her, and is accompanied by a man, a gipsy, who sells poison for rats and carries a violin. Description of two men in custody at Blackburn, on a charge of housebreaking, and remanded till the Cth instant, who are suspected of having committed offences elsewhere : JOHN FOLEY, states that he was brought up at Carlisle, but has for the last two years Tesided in London, and is a printer, wbout 22 years of age, 5 feet 5J inches high, ruddy sunburnt face, prominent forehead, short black hair, small moustache, burn marks on chin, neck, and inside of elbow of right arm ; dressed in grey tweed trousers, with narrow black stripes about half an inch apart, old black shooting coat, black cloth vest, blue striped shirt, black silk necktie, old black cloth cap, and balmoral lace- up boots ; he is an Irishman, and has a bold swaggering gait. The other gives the name of WILLIAM COOK, and states he is a native of Hull, where he- was employed in the sail- cloth manufactory, about 27 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, sallow complexion, thin face, pockpitted, light hair, and has club feet; dressed in old brown coat, cord vest, fustian trousers, black cloth cap, and shoes, information to be given to Mr. Superintendent A. On the evening of the 28th ultimo, the body of a male still- born child, was found in a beer- house, having been con- cealed in a chimney by a woman of the following description : about 31 years of'age, 5 feet 4 inches high, light hair, thin face, rather freckled, sharp features, and speaks the north country dialect ; dressed in plain black dress, black bonnet made with crape and silk, red flowers or ornaments, two shawls ( one plain black scarf, the other black with broad black stripes), kid boots, and has an umbrella with her. Description of a man who was on the 30th ultimo, com- mitted to Northallerton Gaol for twenty- one ays, under the ^ Sisrant Act: he gave the name of THOMAS STRINKHAM, alx& t 22 years of age, 6 feet 4 inches high, fresh complexion, round lace much tanned with the sun, blue eyes, brown hair, whiskers shaved off, stoutly built, had the following marks in blue ink, two large anchors and a cross inside of left arm, one of which he attempted to erase, ' T. S.' and shape of a key near the thumb, and ' T.' and other mark on same hand ; had on a pair of blue serge trousers, with a mark ( supposed to be) ' 126 ' on waistband, and a white military shirt marked on laps. Description of WILLIAM THOMPSON, who is now un- dergoing a term of one month imprisonment in Maidstone Gaol for stealing from a house where he had taken lodgings, in the borough of Maidstone : he is 18 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, well built, fair complexion ( sunburnt), light hair, and hazel eyes ; dressed in a dark jacket, trousers, and vest, and blue naval cap, is of genteel appearance, and says he has been to sea. In his possession was tound the following duplicates, which are supposed to relate to stolen property : one for a silver gilt Watch, pledged at ' John Roberts, Uxbridge, 11th May, 1864,' for 10s., No. 266; another for a gold Watch and Chain, pledged at ' Tighes, Broadway, Deptford, 7th June, 1864,' for £ 2 ; and the other for a Cloak, pledged at ' Kedges, Peascod- street, Windsor, 23rd May, 1864,' for 4s. Description of a tramp committed for fourteen days to Winchester Gaol, for begging on the 27th instant, at Hyde, Isle of Wight. He gave the name of GEORGE WEBB, a wheelwright, from Liverpool, 32 years of age ( looks younger), 6 feet 10 inches high, sallow complexion, light sandy hair, blue eyes, whiskers shaved off, and of slight build ; dressed in a straight back ribbed dark coat, mixed coloured vest, striped cloth trousers, black cloth cap with peak, and blucher boots. Description of a man who gave the name of ROBERT NASH, shoemaker ( supposed to be fictitious), who is com- mitted for trial at the next assizes, to be holden at Hertford on the lltli proximo, charged with setting fire to his dwelling- house, with intent to defraud a fire Insurance Company : he is about 60 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, bald head, a little brown hair at back of head, hazel eyes, long face, and aquiline nose; he has resided at Hertford about 18 months, and it is supposed'that he has beeu previously convicted. Also descrip- tion of two men who are remanded at the borough of Hertford until the 30th instant, charged with stealing a lined Chintz Curtain, 3 yards long, 2 yards wide, bound with green binding, 11 brass rings at the top, flower pattern, on a buff- coloured ground : they gave the names of SAMUEL GOLDTHORP, Leeds, silk dresser, and THOMAS WOOD, Bradford, labourer; Goldthorp is 23 years of age, 5 feet 5} inches high, dark com- plexion, hazel eyes, dark brown hair, and slender built; dressed in a dark coat, trousers, and cap. Description of JOSEPH STOKES, a tramping chimney, sweep, who was committed to the House of Correction at Nether Knutsford, Cheshire^ on the 25th instant, for one calendar month hard labour, for cruelty to a dog : 20 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, black curly hair, dark hazel eyes, large thick lips, has a large wound mark on outside of right leg near the ankle, is of very drunken habits, and generally sleeps in outbuildings ; he is accompanied by a young woman of short stature, having the appearance of a mulatto : he states that he was in St. Alban's Gaol two years ago for four months, for stealing a Sweeping Machine and Soot Bag. He had in his possession a handsome black and tan terrier Dog, with small white stripe down the breast, one white claw on near hind foot, a little white under lower jaw, ears and tail uncut ; he states that he got this dog in exchange tor another at Welchpool about three weeks ago : the dog is supposed to have been stolen, and is in the possession of P.
