As no charge is mode lor the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor must !> e prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that tho Names and Descriptions of Desertera and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from the regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " Tho Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Mall, London, S. VV.," as they cannot be published without his authority. INFORMATIONS MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. JOHN HUGHES, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 12th ultimo, as having absconded from his residence Rhos, Ruabon, charged with manslaughter, has been apprehended and committed for trial.— Bow- street, March 23. ARSON AND WILFUL BURNING. On the morning of the 14th instant, four stacks of Wheat and a stack of beans, the property of Marshall Fowler, Esq, of Preston Hall, were set fire to. £ 20 reward will be paid to any person who will give BUCII information as wil^ lead to the conviction of the offender or offenders, on application to the said Marshall Fowler, Esq., Preston Hall, near Stockton- on- Tees.— Bow- street, March 18. passed forged orders ; when at Birmingham he passed in the name of BAYLEY, and said he was connected with the firm of Bayley Brothers, Water- street, Liverpool ; at other times he gives the name of THOMPSON. Information to be given to Inspector Manton, Detective Department, Birmingham.— Bow- street, March 14. FORGERY. Description of THOMAS WESTON, late Clerk to the Cheadle Board of Guardians, who is charged upon a warrant with forgery, who absconded on the 18th ultimo : he is about 60 years of age, ( 5 feet high, fresh complexion, rather long nose, small thin whiskers inclined to be sandy, light brown hair in- termixed with grey, which he wears rather short; generally dressed in black clothes, black stock round his neck, and black hat which he wears on the back of his head, wears his trousers pockets unbuttoned and flapping down, walks very erect, and is of respectable appearance, is very talkative, and sometimes repents his words ; has been a Wesleyan local preacher, and left Stafford on the 19th irist, by the (>' 15 a. m. London train, without booking, only taking the platform check- ticket with him, lie has relatives living at Birmingham, Leeds, and Wigan. £ 20 reward will be paid for his apprehension. Infor- mation to be Riven to Sergeant Perkins, Cheadle, or to any of the Staffordshire Constabulary.— Bow- street, March 23. Description of a man who has absconded from Gloucester, charged with passing a forged note of hand for £ 16 17s. fid., drawn upon the Gloucestershire Banking Company, Stroud, in the name of L. Winterbotham, on the 14th instant. He is from 46 to 60 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, rather stout, well made, full round face, fresh colour, blue eyes, light hair, small light whiskers turning grey, of gentlemanly appear- ance, and pleasing manner ; dressed in a black frock coat, vest, and trousers, and high crowned hat; carried with him a small black japanned case, and black or brown portmanteau ; stated that he travelled for Leslie, Jackson, and Co., Mersey Iron Works, Liverpool, goes by the name of T. JACKSON, BAILEY, and THOMPSON. Another man, who gave the name of JOHN JULIEN JACKSON, and stated that he was travelling for the European and Colonial Wine Company, 122, Pall Mall, Lon- don, and Messrs. Tipping, Chansarel, and Co., wine and brandy shippers, 79, Great Tower- street, London, was in his company at the time the forged note was cashed, and received some of the money to pay his hotel bill. The first man passed a forged order at Birmingham on the 6th instant, and lias committed similar offences at the ' Docura' hotel, Southampton, and the ' Jack of Newbury' hotel, Berks. It is supposed they are travelling together, and staying at the principal hotels in large towns. Information to be given to Mr. Charles Griffin, Super- intendent, Gloucester.— Bow- street, March 18. Description of a man who on the 6th ultimo uttered a forged Cheque or Order upon the Dudley and Westbromwich Banking Company for the sum of £ 16 10s. 6d., to Mr. R. T. Hawley, of ' The King's Head' hotel, Worcester- street, Bir- mingham : 60 years of age, 6 feet 7 or 8 inches high, grey hair and whiskers, round features, partly bald, high forehead, pleasant in his manner, and of gentlemanly demeanor; dressed in loose blue jacket, black trousers, Wellington boots, blue over- coat ; had in his possession a brown leather portemanteau ; he has been heard of at ' Docura' hotel, Southampton, also at the ' Jack of Newbury' hotel, Berks; at both places he has ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the person of STEPHEN SIDDERS, in the borough of Faversham, on the 19th instant, a silver Geneva Watch. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent White, Police Office, Faversham, Kent.- Bow- street, March 23. Stolen on the night of the 8th instant, from the person, an improved patent silver lever Watch, No. 21741, Liverpool make; and a blue Rug, with red and black star, nearly new, and new straps to buckle round neck, which are not neatly sewn on. Any person giving such information as shall lead to the appre- hension and conviction of the offender or offenders, and recovery of the property, shall receive £ 5 reward, on application to Mr. Superintendent Chawner, Eckington, Derbyshire.— Bow- street, March 23. Stolen from the person of Mr. Alderman Gendall, of Salford, when at Hillsborough, near Sheffield, on the 15th instant, a gold patent lever Watch, makers' J. T. and S. Ollivant, Man- chester, No. 838. Also stolen from the person of John Hughes, of Manchester, broker, when at Hillborough, near Sheffield, on the 16th inst., a silver Geneva Watch. Also stolen from the person of Mr. Bright, of Hathersage, Derbyshire, when at Malin Bridge, near Sheffield, on the 17th instant, a gold Geneva Watch, makers Arnold and Dent, London, has an imitation of the rising sun and clouds over it engraved on the back. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Gillett, Court House, Rotherham; or to Inspector Smalley, West Riding Constabulary Station, Hillsborough, near Sheffield. — Bow- street, March 21. Stolen from the person on the 14th and 15th instant, during the races at Doncaster : a silver Geneva Watch, engine- turned case, steel hands and seconds, maker Piquarez, Geneva ; and a gold Geneva horizontal Watch with gold dial, maker Stauffer, Ex defonds, No. 7126, ' E. P.' engiiaved on the outer case. Information to be given to Mr. Isaac Gregory, Superin- tendent, Guildhall, Doncaster.— Bow- street, March 21. Between 7 and 9' 30p. m. of the 16th instant, the dwelling- house of Mr. George Giles, Bridge- road, Cherstsey, was entered by forcing the staple of bolt of door, during the absence of the I family, and stole therefrom a gold Ring, cut and carved ; a Locket ditto ; a pair of Indian Bracelets with silver mountings ; an Albert Chain plated with gold ; and about £ 20 in G# ld and Silver. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent C. Hollington, Chertsey, Surrey.— Bow- strcet, March 21. Stolen, on the 16th instant, from the person of a gentle- man, at Sheffield, an English gold lever Watch, enamel dial, roinan figures, No. 23656. Any person giving such informa- tion as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders, and recovery of the Watch, shall receive £ 5 reward, on application to Captain Palin, Chief Constable, Town Hall, King- street, Manchester.- Bow- street, March 18. Stolen on the 14th instant, from a gentleman, in Man- chester, a gold Albert cable Guard, with a horse- shoe Locket, a Seal with yellow stone, a Key with white stone, and a Guinea attached ; also a gold cameo Pin, and a gold Pencil with blood stone. Information to be given to Capt. Palin, Chief Constable, Town Hall, King- street, Manchester.— Bow- street, March 18. Stolen about 8 p. m. on the 15th instant, from the person of a gentleman, in the neighbourhood of Peter- street, Man- chester, a gold skeleton lever Watch, centre seconds, No. 14659. Any person giving such information as shall lead to the appre- hension and conviction of the offender or offenders, and recovery of the property, shall receive £ 5 reward, on application to Mr. John Gee, Superintendent of Police, A Division, Albert- street, and Lower King- street, Manchester, or at any of the Police Stations in the city of Manchester.— Bow- street, March 18. Stolen on the 10th instant, from a gentleman in Saville- row, u silver lever Watch, ' W. B.' engraved in centre of case, face cracked.— Metropolitan Police, C Division, March 16. Stolen on the 10th instant, from a gentleman in Saville- row, a gold lever Watch, gold dial- plate, maker Jameson, Dublin.— Metropolitan Police, C Division, March 16. Stolen from the person of a gentleman, at 3 p. m. on the 12th instant, a silver verge Watch, with cream- coloured dial, maker's name Alexander, Liverpool, has a small piece broken off the dial near the figure 12. Information to be given at the Town Hall, Oldham.— Bow- street, March 14. Stolen on the 7th instant, from a man, at No. 1, Burnet's buildings, Crown- street, Soho: a gold hunting Watch, makers Smith, Gamble, & Brougham, Dublin, ' A. R. P.' on outside case ; a gold finger Ring, chased, with sardonyx stones ; a gold scarf Pin set with turquoise, and two small pendants with turquoise.— Metropolitan Police, F Division, March 14. Stolen on the 6th instant, from a man, in a brothel in Charles- street, Drury- lane : a gold Geneva Watch, makers A. Alliez & Emitaz, No. 8254, and a gold Albert Chain attached. By a prostitute, 18 years of age, short stature.— Metropolitan Police, F Division, March 14. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Between 6 and 9 p. m. on the 20th instant, the shop of Mr. Brodie, Bull Plain, Hertford, was broken and entered, and the following uroperty stolen : 1 gold Geneva Case and Dial. 1 gold Geneva Case, engine- turned, with shield and garter, with gold curb guard Chain attached. 1 6mall French open- face Watch. 1 old thick metal Case ( repeater watch). 1 silver Geneva Case, ' T. K.' on back. 1 pair- case silver Watch, chipped dial. 1 pair- case silver Watch, ' John Ginn ' round dial. 1 silver inside Case and capped Movements. 1 old silver guard Chain. 4 old pair- case silver Watches. 1 silver Geneva Watch, silver dial. 1 silver Geneva Watch, enamelled dial. 1 light silver Albert Chain. 2 German silver Watches, old movements. A man is suspected, 21 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, fair complexion, light hair, broad nose and face, broad shoulders, very small moustache ; has been a sailor. £ 3 reward and all reasonable expenses will be paid on the conviction of the offender or offenders and recovery of the property, or in pro- portion to the amount recovered. Jarrett, Borough Police, Hertford.-— Bow- street, March 23. y During the night of the 17th instant, the dwelling- house of Mr. Birchnall, of Sutton, near Macclesfield, Cheshire, was broken and entered, and the following property stolen: two small Hams, about 101b. each; a cloth Cap ; two Combs ; a Hairbrush; a laburnam Ruler ; an Atlas; two Ellis's ' Exercises'; a Guy's ' Orthographical Exercises'; a Pinnock's ' History of England'; a Bible; an ' Anecdotes on- Human Life,' with ' J. C. Pownall' and ' M, Pownall' written inside. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Williamson, County Constabulary Office, Macclesfield, Cheshire.— Bow- street, March 21. • .-.- T During the night of tho 18tU ioatant or onrlv. tha. next morning, the dwelling- hous? of the Rev. James W. Burrough, of Totnes, in the county of Devon, was broken and entered, and the following property stolen therefrom, viz. : a silver Coffee- pot and Salver, with crest— a bird ; a silver Milk Cup, a silver- plated Cup, a silver Butter Knife, a gold Ring with diamonds, a gold Brooch with diaiponds, five silver Tea Spoons, marked ' K. H. S.'; five odd ditto ; twelve German silver Dinner Forks ; twelve ditto Dessert ditto; and about £ 2 in Gold and Silver. Information to be given to Mr. John Bishop, Head Constable, Borough of Totnes, Devonshire.— Bow street, March 21. During the night of the 13th instant, the dwelling- house and shop of Thomas Jones, grocer, Clun, Salop, was broken and entered, and about 12 yards of coarse Calico, and Is. worth of Coppers stolen therefrom. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Baxter, Church Stretton, or to P. C. ( 78) Wm. Preece, Clun, Salop.— Bow- street, March 18. Between 12 midnight on the 5th and 8 a. m. on the 7th instant, the pawnshop of Mr. William Hirst, No. 5, Penny- street, Blackburn, was broken and entered, and the following property stolen: a patent lever silver Watch, white dial, maker Bell, Liverpool, No. 18G0; a silver Geneva Watch, star silver dial, No. 6714 ; an eight- days silver lever Watch, cream- coloured dial, maker T. Sisson, Preston, No. 32879, imitation platina movement, opens in the back ; a silver lever Watch, engine- turned case, No. 2256 ; a silver verge Watch, battered plate on movement; a gold skeleton lever Watch, cream- coloured dial, maker R. Sagar, Blackburn, No. 1007; a silver verge Watch, No. 70101 ; a small lever Watch, No. 12271; a silver verge Watch, No. 795 ; and £ 1 8s. 6d. in silver. On the 7th instant, the silver watch No. 32879 was pledged at the shop of Mr. Marsh, No. 225, deansgate, Manchester, by a man, who gave the name of JOHN TAYLOR, factory operative, residing at No. 27, Wood- street, Manchester ( which address is found to be false, the name is also supposed to be fictitious), 22 to 23 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, proportionate make, round short face, short nose, pale complexion, dark brown hair, slight dark moustache ; dressed in brown shooting coat and black cloth cap ; speaks the Manchester dialect, and appears to know Manchester may be known at the ' Pack Horse' inn, Oldham- road, Manchester. Whoever will give such information as will lead to the apprehension and con- viction of the said John Taylor shall receive £ 5 reward, on application to Mr. Joseph Potts, Chief Constable, Town Hall, Blackburn, Lancashire.— Bow- street, March 1C. During the night of the 12th, or early on the morning of the 13th instant, the dwelling- house of Mr. John Hanscomb, No. 8, Morledge- street, Leicester, was broken and entered, and the following property stolen therefrom, viz.: the Communion Service belonging to St. George's Church, consisting of two silver Plates, a silver Flagon, a silver Chalice, and a silver Salver, all engraved with the following inscription, ' Rev. Robert Burnaby, Minister. James Rawson, William Heard, Churchwardens ;' also a blue pilot Overcoat, with pockets at the sides. £ 10 reward will be paid to any person giving such information as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders, and restoration of the property. In- formation to be given to Mr. R. Charters, Superintendent of Police, Town Hall, Leicester.— Bow- street, March 14. Between 2- 40 and 4- 30 a. m. of the 11th instant, the co- operative stores at Levenshulme, near Manchester, were broken f. • V* | fr P O L I C E G A Z E T T E. March 23. and entered, and the following property stolen therefrom, viz.: eight men's woollen Shirts, of various colours ; three hrown alpaca Umbrellas, in glazed cases, with hooked handles ; and five men's woollen Scarfs, of various colours. Information to be given to the Superintendent of County Police, Old Trafford, near Manchester.— Bow- street, March 14. During the night of the 11th or morning of the 12th inst., Ashby Hall, the residence of Thomas Simcox Lea, Esq., J. P., was broken and entered, and twenty- four bottles of pale Brandy, name on corks in dark red sealing- wax ' Geo. Bragg, Birmn.'; two uncocked legs of Mutton, one a wether, the otber a ewe, both h i ve the shank bones cut <#'; 4 lbs. of fresh Butter, made up in !') ng shaped pounds ; and two old Market Baskets, one with double lid, the other without any lid, were stolen. In- formation to be given to Mr. Superintendent William Stanton, Stourport, Worcestershire.— Bow- street, March 14. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. The Horse stolen from Nobottle, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 14th instant, has been traced through Newport, Lf ighton, and Dagnell, Berks, in the possession of a man ( a gipsy), about 40 years of age, 6 feet 9 inches high, and dark complexion ; dressed in a rusty brown coat, black billycock lint ; has a scar or a piece out ot° the nose ; is well known in Shepherd's liusli and the Potteries, and is a horse coper ; the mare is 15 hands high, not 14, as before advertised. The £ 10 reward is still offered. Information to be given to the Super- intendent of Police, Weedon, Northamptonshire.— Baio- strcet, March 23. Stolen on the ufternoon of the 13th instant, from the road- side in the parish of Sculthorpe, n light- coloured aged Mare Donkey, will foal in about two months, black nose, short tail, and has some hair chafed otf behind caused by the breechings : by a man, .10 or^ 35 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, dark complexion, rather thin face, small dark whiskers under the chin, and carried a stick under his arm ; dressed in light beverteen coat and trousers, and dark cloth cap with peak. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Blomfield, Walsingham, Norfolk.— Bow- street, March 23. Found, on the 3rd instant, at the Measels, near Ludlow, Salop ( supposed to have been stolen), 10 Rams of the Shrop- shire down breed, marked with the figures ' 12 and 13' on the rump. Information to be given to Serjeant Caswell, Newton, Shropshire; or to I'. C. ( 42) Duce, Bromfield, Salop.— Bow- Itreet, March 16. Supposed to have been stolen from a field at Harbro- hill, near Barnsley, Yorks, on or about the 3rd instant, a dark bay Mare, 14} hands high, long square tail, and has a slight fulness on hind legs below the fetlock, similar to a ring- bone. Infor- mation to he given to Mr, Superintendent Greenhalgh, West Riding Constabulary, Barnsley, Yorkshire.— Bow St., March 14. Supposed to have been stolen from Northwamborough Common, near Odiham, Hants, on the night of the 9th instant, a rough- looking black Mare, 12 or 13 hands high, 4 years old, has a small wart on chest; nnd u Colt, about 9 months old, of a rusty hrown colour inclining to black. Information to be given to Mr. W Howard, Superintendent, Hants Constabulary, Aldershot ; or to Sergeant H. Brinson, Odiham, Hants.— Bow- Hr< ct, March lit. Stolen on the night of the 11th instant, from a barn in a field at Nobottle, in the parish of Brington, Northamptonshire, the property of Mr. R. Heygate, farmer, a dark brown cart Marc, about 14 hands high, 6 years ohlKwith two patches of white hair on the hind fetlocks, a white star on the forehead, and a patch of white hair on the near shoulder, from a pinch, long mane and tail, low in condition, and has a rough coat. £ 10 reward will he paid on the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders, and recovery of the mare. Informa- tion to be given to Mr, Heygate, as above ; to Mr. Superinten- dent Lenaan, Weedon ; or t* i Inspector Evans, County Police Station, Northampton.— Bow- street, March 14. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Description of a man named AARON MEDLAR, broom maker, a native of Hevingham, near Norwich, who absconded on the 19th instant, oharged with stealing a fat Pig, from Rockland St. Mary, near Norwich : about 25 years of age, 6 feet 0 or 7 inches high, light brown hair, fresh complexion, black scar on the left eyelid, and stiffly built; dressed in an old velveteen frock coat, pockets on the outside ( one of which is torn off), dark cotton cord trousers, velveteen vest with light coloured buttons, militia boots, black mohair scull cap, turned up at the sides and tied in front; he is supposed to be accompanied by a woman about 34 years of age, middle stature, of very dirty appearance, and is a native of Norwich. Also absconded on the same day, and charged with the same offence, WILLIAM HUDSON, alias TATER BILLY, native of North Walsham, Norfolk : about 28 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, proportionately built, brown hair, little or no whiskers, and lull face ; dressed in alight beverteen frock coat, cord troupers tight in the legs. long vest, and bin ok cloth skull cap ; well known to low horse dealers in Norfolk. He is sup- posed to he travelling with a light donkey and cart, selling Bath brick. All reasonable expenses will be paid for the apprehension of these men. Information to be given to Mr. John Ward, Superintendent of Police, Loddon, who holds warrants for their apprehension, or to any of the Norfolk Con- stabulary.— Bow street, March 23. Description of a man who absconded from his lodgings, at Walton- on- Than. es, on the 20th instant, stealing a pair of Balmoral Boots ( nearly new) and 16s. in silver, the property of George William Taylor, a fellow- lodger. He is a labourer, 27 or 28 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, black hair, very dark complexion, one or two teeth out in front; dressed in a blue guernsey slop, cord trousers, billycock hat, and supposed to bo wearing the stolen boots, as he left his own iold ones) behind. Information to be given to Inspector . Miller, Weybridge, or to Mr. Superintendent C. Hollington, Chertsey, Surrey.— Bow- street, March 23. Stolen on the 13th instant, from the dwelling- house of Charles Ashman, of Bradford- on- Avon, If yard of black Broad Cloth, and a pair of boy's new Boots, tipped and nailed, by a tramping shoemaker, of the following description : he gave his name as WILLIAM CLARK, and stated that he had been a soldier, and was in the Indian mutiny, and that his father was now in the almshouse at Portsmouth ; he is about 32 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, light complexion, blue eyes, dark liair and whiskers meeting under the chin ; dressed when he left in dark clothes ( very old), and had on a pair of new Cossack boots. Information to be given to Inspecter Petney, Bradford, Wilts, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, March 23. Description of a man who is charged with stealing joiners' Tools from an unfinished house in the township of Skircoat, in the West Riding of York# Jre, on the 19th instant: a joiner, about 45 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, large mouth, and prominent teeth ; dressed in an old black cloth coat, fustian trousers, and cap. The whole of the property has been found pledged. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent j Henry Wardle, West Riding Constabulary, Halifax, York- ; shire.— Bow- street, March 23. Stolen on the 19th instant, from a public- house at Ayles- . bury, Bucks, a rough black cloth Overcoat, made with double ; seams, has the maker's name inside the collar, tjvo pockets in ! the skirts, cut in the seams, in one of the pockets were a pair | of brown leather Gloves. It was offered for sale the same evening by two men of the following description : one is about 30 years of age, C feet high, proportionately made, dark hair and complexion, and dressed in a dark jacket, light trousers fitting tight, and black hat, had the appearance of a grocer ; the other is about 35 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, fair complexion, sandy hair and whiskers, and dressed in a pea jacket, brown mixture trousers, and brown billycock hat. Dress, with wavy stripe, spotted in centre of the stripe, with loose jacket attached ; a large green and other mixture coloured woollen Scarf Shawl, with large green fringed edge ; a white calico Under Jacket, with braid round; a crimson flannel Skirt, vaudyked round the bottom, and bound with black velvet ; a long white calico Nightgown ; a Chemise, r « ind at the top, and crochet worked ; a pair of calico Drawers ; a child's flannel. Petticoat, stitched with white silk ; a child's Paletot, slate colour ; a pair of women's kid Boots, elastic sides, and had pieces on the soles, lately mended ; and two white pots of Preserves, with printed yellow labels. By a servant, 21 years of age, middle height, stoutly built, fresh complexion, dark hair, and small eyes: dressed, when last seen, in a brown woollen dress, pierced with a narrow stripe round the bottom, black silk drawn bonnet mixed with blue, and a faded lavender- coloured cloak ; she may be dressed in some of the stolen property. She js a native of Burslem, Staf- fordshire, has been but a short time in Manchester, and speaks with the Staffordshire accent. C. E. C.' engraved on back ; a coloured gold emerald Brooch, spray of emeralds in centre, and drop in one emerald; Ear rings to match, one emerald in centre of each ; all in a red morocco case. Description of ARCHIBALD PATTERSON, lately clerk to the Scammonden Commercial Cotton Spinning Company, Limited, who absconded on the 16th ultimo, embezzling certain moneys the property of his employers : about 43 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, pale complexion, dark hrown hair ( turn- ing grey), hazel eyes, prominent cheek bones, thin pointed chin, of good address, and very talkative. He is a native of Scotland, but has resided at Ripponc'eii for 20 years previous to his engagement with the above company, and at that time was a tin- plate worker, and travelled the country. A reward of £ 5 will be paid to any person giving such information as will lead to his apprehension. By a man about 29 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 6 inches high, small dark whiskers round the chin, rather dark complexion, and stoutly made; dressed when last seen in a dark coat or jacket, much torn about the sleeves, fustian trousers, red muffler, and the stolen boots. He is supposed to belong to Radcliffe, near Nottingham, and is known by the name of GEORGE; he has been previously convicted of felony, and is an habitual drunkard ; there is another case of felony against him, the property has been recovered, lie was last seen going in the direction of Sheffield. He is about 36 years of age, nearly 5 feet 7 inches high, sallow complexion, black hair, dark whiskers under the chin, brown eyes, oval face, burn mark on the right cheek near the ear, is down- looking, and chews tobacco ; he generally wears a Tom Sayer bat, and a coloured scarf with a small neat pin in it, has the appearance of a stableman. Obtained by false pretences, from Mrs. Beswick, Horse- market- street, Warrington, upon the 12th instant, the sum of £ 1 10s., a black silk Dress with quilling of braid or cord round skirt, a mourning crinoline Bonnet trimmed with crape and two black feathers, and a pair of elastic- side Boots ; the whole of the articles of dress are nearly new. By ELLEN TAYLOR, wife of William Taylor, Anderton, Cheshire, 41 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, fresh complexion, dark brown hair, grey eyes, blue mark on tip of, and one on bridge of nose ; she is wearing the stolen dress, & c., having Uft her old clothing with Mrs. Beswick. She was convicted of a similar offence at Kirkdale quarter sessions, 1862, and sentenced to two years' imprisonment, and at that time there were other charges against her iir Liverpool, where she is well known ; she has also been convicted at Bolton. Description of a man who, on the 12th instant, obtained money by false pretences from Matthew Walker, of Dukinfield, Cheshire : he gave the name of GEORGE TAYLOR, stated he was a gasfitter, and working at Dukinfirld Gasworks, and that his boxes were at the Guidebridge Railway Station, but that he wanted 17s. 6d. to pay for the carriage from Northamp- ton, and Walker, believing his story, lent him money to release them ; he is from 40 to 45 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, sallow complexion, dark hair and whiskers, stoutly made, and very deaf; dressed in a round cord jacket with a white linen slop below, cord vest and trousers, worn through inside knee, very old shoes, and dark cloth cap with peak : lie is very talkative, and said he was a native of Chowbent, but had, been living at Northampton for the last 16 years. Description of a man who gave the name of WILLIAM FLEMING ( supposed false), charged with obtaining by false pretences, on the 5th instant- 7s. 4d. from George Fleming, of Hexham, marine btore dealer, and 6s. 3d. from Ellen Hunter, of Walk, publican ; in both cases he pretended to have goods at the railway station, and obtained the money to pay for the carriage : he is trom 24 to 26 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, light hair, thin ginger whiskers and beard, fresh complexion, blue eyes, and lias a peculiar look, has a mark of sore on neck under light the ear, speaks with the Scotch accent, and is of good address; dressed in glengarry cap with check band round it, grey sac tweed cloth coat, which he wore buttoned to the neck, darK vest, dark trousers mended on seat with darker cloth, and mended inside left knee, dark woollen scarf with a red tinge, light shoes with three lace- holes on each side. Stolen between 6 p. m. on the 9th and 7 a. m. on the 10th ultimo, from the parish church of Tilehurst, by means of breaking and removing a part of the window at the back part the church, an oak Alms Box, containing Money, and a Match Candlestick. A reward of £ 50 will be paid by the Government to any person who shall give such information and evidence as shall lead to the conviction of the offender or offenders, and Sir George Grey will advise the grant of Her Majesty's gracious pardon to any accomplice, not being the person who actually committed the offence, who will give like information. Sometime during the night of the 16th inst., St. George's Church, Hyde, Cheshire, was broken and entered, and a Box. containing hooks broken open, but nothing was taken. Also, during the same night, the Unitarian Chapel, Gee Cross, Hyde, was broken and entered, and a cupboard broken open, the Bible was taken from the pulpit, and a number of leaves torn out and burnt, but nothing was stolen. Description of a man in custody, who gave the name of ROBERT COLLINS ( supposed false), who was found at 1 a. m. of the 21st instant on some premises at Tranmere, Cheshire, with intent to commit a burglary. He is 32 years of age. 5 feet 4 inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair, no whiskers, right eye entirely gone, hump back, and has an Irish accent ; dressed in a dark brown cloth coat, black cloth vest, dark tweed trousers, blucher boots, light cloth cap with peak of the same material, and red plaid necktie ; he says he is a confectioner, but refuses to give any further account of himself. Description of two men committed for trial at the next quarter sessions for Carmarthenshire, on the 7th proximo, who gave the names of JOHN and WILLIAM COX, which are supposed to be false. John Cox, who obtained a Post- office Order at Carmarthen, on Bristol, in the name of GEORGE HART, is 35 years of age, 5 feet 5J inches high, fresh com- plexion, light brown hair, sandy whiskers, grey eyes, long visage, Roman nose, large brown flesh- mark on left side of back near the top, small scar on knuckle of left little finger ; dressed in grey low hat, olive brown coat and trousers, and light brown waistcoat; calls himself a traveller, and says he was born at Liverpool, and still resides there. William Cox is 20 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, brown hair, grey eyes, good forehead, long visage, scar on top of right shoulder, two scars on top of left shoulder, three white spots on left wrist two blue spots on back of left hand and two others near the> thumb ; dressed in black low hat, black coat, grey striped waistcoat, light ribbed trousers, and shawl pattern handker chief. A bay mare pony, 3 years old, 13 hands high, was found in their possession. It is supposed that they have committed offences elsewhere, and have been previously convicted. WILLIAM DELL, 38 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, dark complexion, slightly pockpitted, blue eyes, black hair and whiskers, proportionate figure, and very active; dressed in a brown cloth sleeved vest, corduroy trousers fitting tight te the legs, cloth cap, and lace- up boots with brass eyelet holes ; and WILLIAM HORRICK, 17 years of age, 5 feet high, dark complexion, and black hair; dressed in a ragged brown cloth coat, corduroy trousers, and old lace- up boots split on the fore parts. He was last seen going in the direction of Ipswich. It is feared that some ill has befallen him. Description of two gipsy horse dealers who are remanded till the 24th instant, charged with stealing potatoes: JOHN NEWBERRY, 27 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, black hair, grev eyes, swarthy complexion, aquiline no- e, and black whiskers. And JEREMIAH SMITH, alias MYEN BIRCH, 26 years of age, .5 feet 3 inches high, scars on both arms and on neck from burns, left ear very thick at top from having been frost- bitten, dark brown hair, hazel eyes, swarthy complexion, and of small stature. They travel the counties of Lincoln, Northampton, Notts, and Derby, with vans; it is suspected that tliey have been convicted for larceny, and have committed offences elsewhere. Found drowned in the river Wear, at Harperley, near Bishop Auckland, on the 15th instant, the body of a man, between .50 and CO years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, white hair and whiskers meeting under the chin, had on a black silk neckerchief, and a Wellington hoot, clog. The body appeared to have been in the water about twelve hours. An inquest has been held, and ao open verdict returned. Mary Ann Price, 30 years of age, 5 feet high, dark hair, grey eyes, pale complexion ; had with her two children, one between three and four years old, the other about seven or eight months. The body of a female child was found floating in the Ashton and Huddersfield Canal, near Frenches Bridge, in the township of Saddleworth, about 6' 30 a. m. on the 14tli instant. The child appeared to have been in the water nine or ten days, and is supposed to be six or seven weeks old; dressed in a white cotton shirt with fine edging round the sleeves, two flannel under coats, a calico binder, a double linen napkin, and a printed striped and spotted cotton night dress. An inquest was held on the body on the 15th instant, and an open verdict was returned. A warrant is issued for his apprehension.— Metropolitan Police, T Division, March 16. Escaped from the custody of a police constable at 2 a. m. on the 12th instant, in the parish of Pitminster. Somerset, on the charge of stealing two Horses Rt Wendover, Bucks, on the 23rd ultimo, ELIAs DELL, of Bushey, Hertfordshire, 24 years of age, 6 feet 3 or 4 inches high, black hair ; dressed in cord trousers, sleeved vest, lace up boots, and old cap, and is of gipsy- like appearance: his brother, WILLIAM DELL, was apprehended with the stolen horses at North Petherton, on the 11th instant, when he ( Elias), ran away. HENRY DELL, aged 68, MARY ANN DELL, ( 64, EMILY DELL, 25, and CAROLINE DELL, 18 ( wife of Elias Dell), were apprehended on the 12th instant, and sentenced to seven days imprisonment each as vagrants, and Emily for one month in addition for assault, and Caroline for four fourteen days for assault on the police. They had in their possesssion the van and cart described in the Police Gazette of the 29th ultimo; one of the horses is about 14 hauda high, bay, black legs, long coat, about 5 years old, and is supposed to have been stolen. Elias Dell may probably be found in company with other gipsies in the county of Devon. Webster was apprehended about eight miles from the place of robbery, and the mare is recovered. He is 44 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, fresh complexion, grey eyes ( slight cast in left), which appears rather weak, light brown hair, large sandy whiskers, scar on forehead, proportionate figure ; dressed in a brown cloth jacket, cord trousers and vest, drab billycock hat, and heavy half boots ; he states his last residence WHAT- Jew's- road, Chelsea, London, a brickmaker, and has generally worked for railway contractors. Had several duplicates for pledged clothing and a pair of brass mantle ornaments, representing pheasants. THOMAS CRAWLEY, states he is a labourer, and a native of Pollard- street, Manchester ; about 21 years of age, 5 feet 7- J inches high ; sallow complexion, hazel eyes, dark brown hair, no whiskers, broad nose, large irregular teeth, has a wound under chin from the king's evil, slenderly built; dressed in an old black ribbed tweed coat with velvet collar, old black cloth vest and trousers. HENRY HALL, states he is a labourer, a native of Bank- top, William- street, Manchester ; about 21 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, fresh complexion, blue eyes, light brown hair, no whiskers, small features, and slender figure ; dressed in a brown mixture tweed coat, black and white check woollen vest, trimmed with white buttons, red plaid scarf, moleskin trousers, and white woollen Scotch cap, with a black checked band. They all say that they tramped to Middlesborough, and have been at Leeds, Harrogate, and other parts of the West Riding. And WILLIAM COULSON, 28 or 30 years of age, 6 feet 2 or 3 inches high, fresh complexion, light haircut short, no whiskers, round and broad shoulders, rather bow- legged, hangs his head very much, and has a rolling gait when walking ; dressed in a short shooting coat, woollen cord trousers, and hairy cap tied on the top of the head with a ribbon. They are both pitmen, but may be working as sinkers, and generally frequent low public- houses.
