At an adjourned inquest held on the 20th ultimo, the coroner's jury returned a verdict of ' Wilful Murder' against some person or persons unknown, for the murder of a male child found in the Shropshire Union Canal, at the parish, of Llandisilio, Montgomeryshire, on the 18th Januury last; it appeared to have been in the water about fourteen days, and to be between two and three months old ; dressed in a white calico shirt, long flannel, the top lined with calico, red flannel binder, small pattern lilac print nightgown, white woollen hood, ar. d two calico napkins; the clothes all appear to be new and neatly made. A reward of £ 50 will be. paid by the I Government to any person who shall give such information and evidence as shall lead to the discovery and conviction of the murderer or murderers of the said child ; and Sir George Grey will advise the grant of Her Majesty's gracious pardon to any accomplice, not being the person who actually committed the murder, who shall give such evidence as shall lead to the same result. Information to be given at the Chief Constable's Office, Welshpool, or at the Llandisilio Police Station, where the clothes may be seen.— Bow- street, March 4. ARSON AND WILFUL BURNING. About 8 o'clock on the 5th instant, some person or persons set fire- to a beiln rick and straw stack at Wheatley, near Oxford, the property of Mr. Thomas Chapman. £ 10 reward will he given to any person who will give such information as will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be g| ven to Mr. Richard Barber, Chief Superintendent of Police,> Rfrts- mouth.— Bow- street, March 11. v. , Description of a man charged with stealing from tne\ person : a native of Wapping, a coal- whipper, 35 to 40 years ofj age, 5 feet 6 inches high, darlc complexion and hair, high' cheekbones, short neck ; dressed in blue monkey jacket, fustian vest and trousers, and black cloth < ap with peak.— — Metropolitan Police, K Division, March 7. Description of a man charged with highway robbery : a native of Wapping. 24 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, dark complexion and hair, no whiskers; dressed in a monkey jacket, fustian trousers and vest, black cloth cap, and lace boots. He is was convicted at Maidstone in August last, and sentenced to six months' imprisonment.— Metropolitan Police, K Division, March 7. Supposed to have been stolen, from the person of Jane Robinson, of 109, Bold- street, Liverpool, at Carnarvon, about the 2nd instant, or between Carnarvon and Liverpool, via Chester, or at Liverpool, a light' leather Purse, with steel spring, containing five £ 5 Notes, about £ 10 in Gold, a small Brooch, with an Irish diamond set in silver, and a small - gold Teakettle. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Stephen Davies, Carnarvon, or to Mr. Superintendent Kehoe, Central Police, Liverpool.— Bow- street, March 7. FORGERY. , Obtained on the let " instant, by a forged cheque, from Nos. 8, 9, and 10, Northumberland- place, Commercial- road, Stepney, Linen Drapery, consisting. of dress pieces, calico, stockings, & c., to the amount of £ 15 6s. 9d. By a man and woman : the man, o feet 5 incheB high, has no moustache or imperial but wears fake ones when he goes out, small dark whiskers shaved back to his ears, eyes affected ( supposed with cold) : the woman dressed in deep mourning, lace fall with three rows of crape in frills across Jt; had with her a black silk dress, a violet moire antique diSss, and a new black cloth walking jacket with skirt ; linen marked 1 Dorah Hetseh.' They had an infant, 3 months old, dressed in red pelisse with long black ribbon behind and white hood : the child is seldom carried out.— Metropolitan Police, K Division, March 11. Absconded from Nottingham, charged with forgery, JOHN SPRAY, machine builder, about 48 years of age, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, thin face, prominent forehead, light brown hair very thin on top of head, small whiskers, walks upright, and is of respectable appearance ; it is supposed he will try to go abroad. Description of a Watch stolen from the person of William Grace, at the ' Sun' public- house, Chamham Street, Wilts, on the 27th ultimo, by a man who is remanded, and who wives the name of JOHN MENGMAN, of Dog- row, Three Coats- lane, Mile End, London, and is about 27 years of agAfi feet inches high, thin pale faee,' daik hair, no whisk rWalfi?^ shabbily dressed. Information to be given to Mr. Thomas Stetten, Superintendent, Marlborough, Wilts. — Bowiireet, March 2. Stolen about 8 p. m. on the 26th ultimo, from the pe, in of a gentleman in the city of Manchester, a gold lever Watch, makers' H. Davies and Sons, Birmingham. Any person jiving such information as will lead to the apprehension and convic- tion of the offender or offenders, and recovery of the - watch, shall receive £ 3 reward, on application to Captain Palin, Chief Constable, Town Hall, King- street, Manchester.— Bow- street. March 2. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the person of a gentleman in Darlington, Durham, on the evening of the 7tli instant, a gold Watch, gold dial, maker Farmer, Stockton, No. 9498, had- a heavy gold secret link Guard and a gold Seal set with a yellow topaz attached. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Robson, Police Station, Darlington, Durham.— Bow- street, March, 11. • Further information respecting the two men and two women advertised in the Police Gazette of the 29th ultimo, Further particulars of the two men chargtd with robbery in the city of Ripon, as advertised in the Police Gazette of the 4th instant. One of the men has been apprehended in Leeds, who gave the name of THOMAS METCALFE, a native of Ripon, but lattrrly resided at Leeds. The other is still at large, and is. of jjie following description: WILLIAM SUT- CLIFFE, alias CURLY BILL, a native of New Town, Leeds, about 33 years of age, 5 feet' 8 J inches high, stoutly Luilt, very broad chest and shoulders, large round face, thick lips, short neck, dark hair curly behind, sallow complexion, and no whiskers ; dressed, when last seen on the 2nd instant, in a grey mixture cloth suit, and a billycock hat. Information to be given to Mr. Wm. Burniston, Chief Police Officer, who holds a warrant for his apprehension, and will pay any reasonable expense that may be incurred.— Bow- street, March 7 Stolen from the person at Farningham Steeplechase, on the 3rd instant, a gold hunting Watch, white enamel dial, makers Strand and Hebtrey, 77, Blackman- street, Borough. £ 10 reward will lie given on recovery of the watch, and con- viction of the offender or offenders. Information, to be given to Mr. C. Brandon, Superintendent, Kent Constabulary, Dart- ford.— Bow- street, March 7 Stolen from the person of a gentleman, in the borough of R'pon, with great violence, between 11 and 12 p. m. on the 27th ultimo, a double bottom engine- turned silver lever Watch, expansion balance, jewelled in six holes, spring above, sunk seconds, and capped, No. 50974, had attached a gold Albert Chain, snake pattern, with a Key which is supposed to have a blue and red stone turning on a swivel at the top of key ; a red faded leather Purse, with clasp, containing £ 5 14s. in Gold and Silver. By two men of the following description : one about 28 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, round pale face, no whiskers; dressed in dark cloth short jacket, dark trousers and vest, and dark low crowned hat. The other about 30 years of jige, 5 feet 11 inches high, stout built, large round face, thick lips, no whiskers, very ruff hands, and rolling gait; dressed in grey cloth or fustian coat, black cloth trou- sers, and light grey cap, he may have changed his coat and be wearing a red plush or worsted waistcoat, with fustian back and sleeves. £ 2 reward will be paid on the recovery of the watch, and conviction of the offenders. Stolen from the person of Edwin Tailer, at Hadeley- green, Ironbridge, Salop, on the 14th ultimo, a silver verge Watch, with plain figures, makers Delvecctio and Catia, Wellington, Salop, No. 1293 ; it may be pawned or sold in some of the surrounding to w n s7fis. l u tor m at ion to be given to P. C. Wood- hous, Ironbridge, Salop.— Bow- street, March 4. Stolen from the person at Cambridge steeple chase, on the 18th ultimo, supposed by some persons who came from the neighbourhood of Shoreditch, and are in the habit of attending races, a single cased silver lever Watch, convex dial, and steel hands, the back opens by a thumb- piece, maker Wm. Harris, Newmarket ; had a bronze chain of foreign make attached. Also a gold double bottom hunting Geneva Watch, anchor escapement, jewelled in 10 holes with five rubies, white enamel dial with seconds hand, the ease has a number on it and is engine- turned. Information to be given to Mr. Chief Super- intendent Stretten, Chesterton- road, Cambridge.— Bow- street, March 4. Stolen about 4 p. m. on the 2nd instant, from the person of BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Further particulars of the man charged with burglary at Thorpe, Surrey, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 3rd ultimo : WALTER EVANS, alias JACKSON, alias SMITH, labourer, native of Thorpe, 30 years of ago, 5 feet 4 inches high, thick set, dark complexion and hair, small whiskers ( supposed shaved) ; dressed in blue monkey jacket, a drab jean slop, cord trousers, heavy lace- up boots with brass eyelet- holes, and black cap. He is accompanied by his wife, an black hair and eyes, low forehead ; supposed to be dressed in » » . green stuff gown, and dark shawl and bonnet. Had with them a very dark or black lurcher bitch, white spot on chest, smooth coat, very fat. A warrantvlias been granted for his apprehen- sion.— Metropolitan Police, V Division, March 11. Further information respecting the burglary at the Misses Walkers, Clifton- on- Teme, Worcestershire, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 9th instant : there was stolen a lady's silver gilt " Watch, gold face with Roman figures, maker's name Mason, Worcester. £ 10 reward will be paid by the Misses Walker, to any person giving such information as shall lead to the conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Raby, Great Witley, Worcester- shire.— Bow- street, March 11. WILLIAM WYATT, advertized in the Police Gazette of the 1st ultimo, charged with breaking out of a dwelling- house at Cleobury- Mortimer,. during the night of the 25th of January last, and stealing certain property therefrom, ® has been apprehended and committed for trial at the next Salop assizes. He is supposed to have been previously convicted. Information to be given to Sergeaut H. Howells, County Con- w stabulary Cleobury- Mortimer, Salop.— bow- street, March 11. = Farther information respecting the burglary at Chippen* ham, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 7th instant. Two men are suspected : one is about 35 years of . age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, dark hair, beard, and moustache ; arid dressed in a dark blue pilot coat with large buttons, dark trousers, and a blue cloth cap with peak; the other is about 20 years of age, 5 teet 8 or 9 inches high, pale conoploxion, and rather long featured; dressed in a light cloth jacket, dark ' trousers, and cap with peak. They were traced in the direction of Swindon on the 5th instant, and are supposed to be JOHN GOOD- ENOUGH and CHARLES STEWART, who were adver- tised in the Police Gazette of the 25th January last, charged with burglary at Gosport. It is supposed that the man first described stops at low public- houses, accompanied by a female about 20 years of age, and dressed in a brown bonnet, with black veil, black cloth jacket, and blue dress with white flowers in it; he has a small box with him and a portmanteau, and pretends to be a hawker of Jewellery. Description of AMBROSE HARRISON, a bricklayer's labourer, late of Quorn, near Derby, who is charged with breaking into a harness room, and stealing therefrom a quan- tity of Harness, the property of Mr. Bitkewell, grocer, of Quorn, and for whose apprehension a warrant has been issued. He is 35 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, proportionately mstde, light brown hair, thin visage, squints, and light com- plexion ; dressed in a cotton cord jacket, fustian or cord trousers, and dark cloth cap. Information to be given to W. G. Moran, Esq., Deputy Chief Constable, Belper, Derbyshire. — Bow- street, March 9. Between 12 p. m. on the 4th instant, and 7 a. m. on the 5th instant, the * Navigation Inn," kept by John Hirst, of Battye- I ford, Kirkheaton, near Huddersfield, was broken and entered, a lady, at a draper's shop in Market- place, Burslem, a leather | and the undermentioned articles stolen therefrom : a lady's the other small gold Geneva Watch with flowered case, and gold- plated Guard attached, the guard is attached to the swivel with a piece of black thread, the ring having been broken ; a pair of men's black cloth trousers, nearly new; a black cloth dress Coat; a black silk velvet Vest, with plain lining, cut about inch up the back ; a brown mixture Overcoat with velvet collar, two pockets outside; a black satin Handkerchief; a plated Brooch with glass in centre; and a nichol silver Watch Guard. During the hight of the 2nd or morning of therSWinst, the ' Crown and Cushion ' inn, Bradley- green, in the j< arish of Biddulph, Staffordshire, was broken and entered, and the following property stolen therefrom : a pair of boy's strong leather lace- up Boots, part worn, brass eyelets ; a pair of women* black cloth Boots, part worn, have been repaired on the ou/ s'de of heels and inside of soles ; a woollen Scarf Shawl, T'WWaiid white plaid, large size, much worn ; a small woollen Shaw? small plaid of various colours, a hole in it from being pinnU'round the neck ; about 3s. in silver and copper Money, and ibout 8 U s. of Bacon. U^ etween 9 a. m. and 0 p. m. the 3rd instant, the dwelling- lioiisi of James Mather, labourer, of Moscan, was broken and entered, and ' stole therefrom : a dark mixture cloth Coat, slightly tinged with red, two outside pockets in the laps, and one oatside left breast, bound with black braid, covered buttons, torn inside left lap ; and a cotton Night Dress, marked ' A. Gaunt, No. 2.,' inside the neck. Supposed by a tramp of the following description, who was seen coming from the house with a bundle ; about 35 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high; dressed in dirty dark coloured clothes and cap. trousers torn in front of body, shoes much worn. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Parkin, West Riding Constabulary, Tadcaster, — Bow- strcet, March 7. Between 0 and 9' 30 p. m. on the 3rd instant, the Newport ( Salop) Lock up- lit use was broken and entered during the absence of the constable in charge, and the following property stolen : an American Time piece, Gothic pattern, about 20 in. by 10 in., a bit broken off one of the spires, white dial, and a small piece of enamel chipt off near the centre, with alarum ; a blue Over Coat, lined with plaid, pockets outside and two inside, and pieces let into the sleeves near the cuffs ; a green cloth Vest, with dark back and lining, no collar; a brown mixture ditto, sfngte breasted, roll collar, bound with braid, ' and horn buttons ; and a silk Pocket Handkerchief, red ground with yellow flower, brown near border and shells on the edge ( can be identified). Supposed by tramps. Information to be given to Mr. J. Richardson, Deputy Chief Constable, Welling, ton ; or to P. C. ( 7) Richard Dovey, Newport, Salop.— Bow- • street, March 7. Between the hours of 10 a. m. and 4 p. m. on the 3rd inst., the dwelling- house of Mr. William Bennett, at Highwood, near ' Uttoxeter, was broken and entered, and a large dark red Paisley Scarf Shawl, full pattern, having fringe at the end, and a narrow dark green silk border ; about 3 lbs. of Cheese, and a piece of Plum Cake, stolen therefrom. Information to be given to Inspector Crisp, Police Station, Uttoxeter, Stafford- shire.— Bow- strcct, March 7. The dwelling- house of Mr. S. C. Walton, of Ashbourne, Derbyshire, was broken and entered between 3 and 4 p. m. on fthe 2nd instant, during the absence of the family, and two silver Tea Spoons, marked * S. L. W.,' two ditto, electro, not marked, and three Sovereigns, were stolen therefrom. Infor A mation to be given to Mr. Superintendent James Corbishley, • Constabulary, Ashbourne, Derbyshire.— Bow- street, March 4, During the night of the 1st instant, the office of Mr. Heptinstall, miller, of Castleford, was broken and entered, and the following property stolen therefrom, viz. : about 10s. in Copper Money, a dark grey mixture shooting Coat, black horn buttons, bound w ith black, braid, pockets inside and out, and much worn ; a light grey dress Coat, thin material, has been washed, pockets outside. and dne inside left breast, ink mark inside hit breast caused by wiping a pen, and large brown buttons, one of which is broken ; a black curled hairy Cap, with ear covers. Information to be given to Mr. Superinten- dent. Hall, West Riding Sessions House, Pontefract, Yorkshire. — Bow- street, March 4. Stolen during the night of the 27th ultimo, from the dwelling- house aud shop of Mrs. Mary Rushton, grocer, Wokingham, Berks, by means of housebreaking : a very old- fashioned small silver verge Watch, flat glass slightly fractured, round handle, had a piece of black ribbon and a brass key attached ; a very old- fashioned pinchbeck Watch, back very much scratched and worn, minute hand broken off in middle, had attached a small go! d Seal with white stone ( a man with a hammer in his hand in the act of striking on an anvil) ; about 2 lbs. of Shag Tobacco ; a gammon of Bacon, about 12 lbs.; about 3 lbs of Wiltshire Cheese ; about 5s. in Copper ; and about 3s. in Threepenny aud Fourpenny Pieces. Infor- mation to be given to Mr. Superintendent O'Neill, Consta- bulary Station, Wokingham, Berks.— Bow- street, March 2. complexion, brown eyes, dark brown hair, long face, high fore- bead, and had a cut mark on nose. All reasonable expenses will be paid for the apprehension of Wenman. Information to be given to Mr. Richardson, Deputy Chief Constable, Welling- ton, Salop.— Bow- street, March 11. ' The black cart Horse, advertised in the Police Gazatte of the 29th ultimo, as stolen from Roden, in the county of Salop, has been recovered, and WILLIAM DARN, alias RICHARDS, stands committed for trial at the next Chester assizes for steal- ing the same.,—. Bow- street, March 11. Found, on the 7th inslant, at Dryton, in the county of Salop, and supposed to have been stolen, a bay hackney Mare, :' ged, about 15 hands high, rough coat, low condition, white no.' e, white upon face, bang tail, white near hind foot, and the shoe off. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent. Ivins, Coun'- y Police Office, Shrewsbury.— Bow- street, March 9. Supposed to have been stolen from a field near King's Norton, on the night of the 5th instant, a thorough- bred iron- re, 4 years old, 15 hands high, both hind feet white, ' ore- feet black, tail cut, the property of Mr. William the Ivy House, King's Norton. Information to be Police Station, King's Heath, near Birmingham. \ et, Mai ch 9. ised to have been stolen on the night of the 2nd Ine in- lamh Ewe Sheep of the Liecester breed, outol r Blahy Wharf, in the occupation of Mr. H. Stall, Glenn, Leicestershire. The sheep have their left ears the top edge, and ' H' branded on the near side. If stolen £ 5 will lie given to any one who will give such infor mation as will lead to the conviction of the offender or offenders and recovery of the sheep. The horses have been traced to Reading, where they arrived at 9 a. m. on the 24th instant, in the possession of two men : lst, 20 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, dark com- plexion, black hair; dressed in corduroy jacket and trousers, old lace- up boots ( brass eyelets) split oil the fore p » rts, and bl sck turban hat. By a man and woman of the following description, who lodged at the house a fortnight: the man is a labourer, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 orB inches high, fair complexion, light grey eyes, dark hair and whiskers, spare figure, and dressed in light moleskin trousers, dark coat white slop underneath, and cloth cap ; the woman is about 40 yeara of age, 5 feet 2 inchea'high, dark complexion, dark hair and eyes, and stout figure ; supposed to be wearing one of the stolen shawls, cottage bonnet ( supposed to be trimmed with red and brown ribbon, and supposed to be wearing the stolen boots, as she left her old ones behind. They were traced on the road to Battle, Sussex, and are supposed to be making their way to Kent, and are likely to be found in low lodging- houses. They left behind them three pawnbroker's Duplicates for the follow- ing property: at William French and Ogilvie's, « 207, High- street, Poplar, 13th July, 1863, a Shawl, for 4s., in the name of A. Description of THOMAS SAYERS, alias SYERS, alias MANBY, a low horse dealer, who is committed for trial at the next quarter sessions to be liolden at Ely, Cambs, on the 6th proximo, on a charge of horse stealing at Chatteris, the Horse has been recovered : he slates that he is a native of Bueston, Norfolk, but he last resided at King's Lynn, and is supposed to have resided occasionally in London, and generally employed with horses ; is about 35 years of age, 5 feet 2 or 3 inches high, fair complexion, light, brown hair ( inclined to curl at sides), full face, whiskers shaved off, stoutly made, the first finger oi. left hand damaged, and a scar across the third finger of same hand, scar across the thick part of the inside of right hand, and has lost a tooth from the left side of upper jaw; dressed in black ciuth waistcoat and trousers, old light blue butcher's frock, light brown mixed tweed frock coat, and black billycock hat. Description of a woman committed to Haverfordwest Gaol for one month with hard labour, for vagrancy; She gives the name of ELIZABETH JONES, and states that she is a native of Bath, where her father was a blacksmith, working for Mr. Hays, of Even- street,, but died about four years ago ( which is supposed to be false) ; sho speaks with a strong Irish accent ; she is about 22 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, auburn hair, blue eyes, fresh comp'exion, slightly pockmarked, has a burn scar under the chin, and deep pockmaiks upon both elbows ; dressed in an old black silk bonnet, trimmed with black crape and mauve strings, old brown shawl with light stripes and scarlet border, and a dark drab skirt with light stripes ; she wears nothing hut the shawl upon her shoulders, and is in the habit of calling upon ladies begging clothing, and afterward sells the clothing she obtains. She is accompanied by a man known among tramps as ' Birmingham Tom,' who is about ' I! years of age, 6 feet 6 or 7 inches high, auburn hair, light complexion, has a scar upon the right side of the neck, and generally dresses in light clothes, black cloth cap, and a large red and white woollen muffler. He states that he has worked at the Manchester Water Works, that he has been employed on several railways as a platelayer, and whilst engaged as such on the Wincanton Railway about four years ago his leg was broken, and that, lie remained in the huts at that place until he recovered. He was convicted at Banbury, Oxfordshire, in 1862, and sentenced to twelve months impri- sonment for passing counterfeit sixpences ; he has also been convicted of burglary. It is suspected he has been, travelling through different counties in England and Wales with others, passing counterieit coin, and that he has committed offences elsewhere.
