W.," us they cannot be published without his authority. INFO R M ATIONS MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. At an adjourned inquest held on the 20tli ultimo, the coroner's jury returned a verdict of ' Wilful Murder' against some person or persons unknown, for tlie murder of a male child found in the Shropshire Union Canal, at the parish of Llandisilio, Montgomeryshire, on the 18th January last; it appeared to have been in the water about fourteen days, and to be between two and three months old ; dressed in u white oalico shirt, long flannel, the tup lined with calico, red flannel binder, small pattern lilac print nightgown, white woollen, hood, and two calico napkins; the clothes all'' appear to be j new and neatly made, A reward of £ 50 will he paid by the Government to any person who shall give such information and j evidence as shall lead to the discovery and conviction of the; murderer or murderers of the said child ; and Sir George Grey : will advise the grant of Her Majesty's gracious pardon to any j accomplice, not being the person who actually committed the murder, who shall give such evidence as shall lead to the same result. Description of JAMES HAMPTON, who is charged at Inverness with forging and uttering. He is said to be a native of London, is from 25 to 30 years of age, 0 feet 1 inch high, light brown hair, bushy whiskers on chin, large blue eyes, Roman nose inclining to side at the point, has lost an upper front tooth, the whole of his upper front teeth are wide set, and good- looking; dressed when last seen in « grey top- coat, andjbrown tweed trousers mixed with white dots ; he served some time in the D Division of the Metropolitan Police, Londou, his number being 322, and living then at 13, George- street, St. Pancraa. He may try to get employment in some police establishment, or may go abroad, as he'obtained £ 60 by means of the forgery. Information to be given to Mr. William Murray, Chief Constable, Inverness, who holds a warrant'for his apprehension.— Bow- street, February 22. ROBBERY AND LARCENY PROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the person of a gentleman, in the borough of Uipon, with great violence, between 11 and 12 p. m. on the 27th ultimo, a double bottom engine- turned silver lever Watch, expansion bnlance, jewelled in six holes, 6pring above, sunk seconds, and capped, No. 60974, had attached a gold Albert Chain, snake pattern, with a Key which is supposed to have a blue and red stone turning on a swivel at the top of key ; a red faded leather Purse, with clasp, containing £ 5 14s. in Gold and Silver. By two men of the following description : one about 28 years of age, 5 feet G or 7 inches high, round pale face, no whiskers ; dressed in dark cloth short jacket, dark trousers and vest, and dark low. crowned hat. The other about 30 years of age, 6 feet 11 inches high, stout built, large round face, thick lips, no whiskers, very ruff hands, and rolling gait; dressed in grey cloth or fustian coat, black cloth trou- sers, and light grey cap, he may have changed his coat and be wearing a red plush or worsted waistcoat, with fustian back and sleeves. £ 2 reward will be paid on the recovery of the • watch, and conviction of the offenders. Burniston, Chief Borough Police Office, Itipon.— Bom- street, March 4, The silver Watch stolen at the ' George Inn' tap- room at Spilsby, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 2nd instant, has been found, and two men apprehended for stealing it, and remanded to the 7th instant.— bow- street, March 4, Stolen from the person of Edwin Tailer, at Hadeley- green, Ironbridge, Salop, on the 14th ultimo, A silver verge Watch, with plain figures, makers Delvecctio and Catia, Wellington, Salop, No. 1293 ; it may be pawned or sold in some of the surrounding towns. Information to be given to P. C. Wood- hous, Ironbridge, Salop.— Bow- street, March 4. Stolen from the person at Cambridge steeple chase, on the 18th ultimo, supposed by some persons who came from the neighbourhood of Shoreditch, and are in the habit of attending races, a single cased silver lever Watch, convex dial, and steel hands, the back opens by a thumb- piece, maker Wm. Harris, Newmarket; had a bronze chain of foreign make attached. Also a gold double bottom hunting Geneva Watch, anchor escapement, jewelled in 10 holes with five rubies, white enamel dial with seconds hand, the case has a number on it and is engine- turned. Information to be given to Mr. Chief Super- intendent Stretten, Chesterton- road, Cambridge.— Bow- street, March 4. Stolen about 4 p. m. on the 2nd instant, from the person of a lady, at a draper's shop in Market- place, Burslem, a leather Purse, with brass clasp in the shape of a hand, containing two £ 5 Bank of England Notes, one is numbered W | P 63541, October 14, 1863, both are marked in ink ' Mrs. Ford, 27th ( or 29th) 2- 64, J. M.,' payment of which is stopped ; and three Sovereigns. £ 2 reward will be given to any peison giving such information as will lead to the apprehension and convic- tion of the offender or offenders, and recovery of the property, or in proportion to the amount recovered. Information to be given to Mr. Thomas Povey, Superintendent of Police, Burslem, Staffordshire Potteries.— Bow- street, March 4. Description of a Watch stolen from the person of William Grace, at the ' Sun' public- house, Chamham Street, Wilts, on the 27th ultimo, by a man who is remanded, and who gives the name of JOHN MENGMAN, of Dog- row, Three Coats- lane, Mile End, London, and is about 27 years of age, 5 feet inches high, thin pale face, dark hair, no whiskers, and thabbily dressed. It is a pair case rack lever watch, No. 6911, maker A. Heckles, Liverpool, with brass Chain and three com- mon Keys, one broken, a small Seal, an American Coin, and three Cents attached. Information to be given to Mr. Thomas Stetten, Superintendent, Marlborough, Wilts. — Bow- street, March 2. Stolen about 8 p. m. on the 26th ultimo, from the person of a gentleman in the city of Manchester, a gold lever Watch, makers' H. Davies and Sons, Birmingham. Any person giving such information as will lead to the apprehension and convic- tion of the offender or offenders, and recovery of the watch, shall receive £ 3 reward, on application to Captain Palin, Chief Constable, Town Hall, King- street, Manchester.— Bow- street, March 2. Stolen between 4 and 6 p. m. on the 25th instant, from the person of George Workman, on the highway near Semple Sowerby, Westmorland, a strong jean Purse, with partition, containing £ 20 in Sovereigns, Half- sovereigns, and Silver, and three £ 5 Notes, supposed of different banks. By a woman, from 20 to 30 years of age, about 5 feet high, dark complexion, dark brown eyes, proportionate make, round freckled face ; dressed in a white and brown mixture straw hat, trimmed with dark ribbon, dark shawl, white stockings, and boots, and when walking has a waddling gait. She is supposed to be accompanied by two men who were on the road near the place at the time the robbery was committed : one is 20 or 21 years of age, about 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, dark complexion, stout build ; dressed in dark clothes, daik cap, and carried a dark stick. The other appears to be from 40 to 50 years of age, nearly 6 feet high, rather grey hair, and slender build ; dressed in a dark coat, and hat, and supposed drab or cord ribbed trou- sers. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent R. Parks Constabulary Office, Appleby, or at the County Chief Con- stable's Office, Carlisle.— Bow- street, February 29. Stolen on the 22nd instant, from a gentleman in York- street, St. James's, a brown leather Pocket- book, containing four £ 10 Bank of England Notes, Nos. 49613, 43139, 47876, 5060, the first three dated 1862, the other 8163 ; two £ 5 Bank of England Notes; and three Sovereigns.— Metropolitan Police, C Division, February 26. Stolen from the person, on the 20th instant, in the parish of Horseheath, a small silver Geneva Watch. By a man about 5 feet 8 inches high, stout make, had large bushy whiskers, and wore ear- rings ; dressed in an old brown pilot jacket, white cotton cord trousers, old red plush waistcoat, lace- up boots, and red worsted cap. Information to be given to Mr. Superinten- dent Yeo, Linton, Cambridgeshire.— Bow- street, February 24. Stolen about 5 p. m. on the 18th instant, from the person of a gentleman in Manchester, a gold Repeater Watch, with enamelled dial, maker Roskill, Liverpool, No. 10116. Any person giving such information as may lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders, and recovery of the property, shall receive £ 5 reward, on application to Mr. Super- intendent Godby, B Division, Livesey- st., Oldham- road, or at any Police Station in Manchester.— Bow- street, February 24. Stolen in Edinburgh, on the evening of the 20th instant, from the person, a gold duplex Watch, No. 6476, maker ' J. Morrice, Fan- street, London, No. 1700' scratched on case, jewelled in six holes, double backed, plain cases, white enamel dial, cracked at thq jigure 6, has three odd gold hands, and the bow is broken. Information to be given to the Superintendent of City Police, Edinburgh.— Bow- street, February 24. Stolen, on the 17th instant, from a lady, whilst in an omnibus between Walworth and the Great Eastern Railway, Shoreditch: a leather Purse, containing a £ Si Bank of England Note; a Deposit Note for £ 60, payable at London Joint Stock Bank ; a Crystal Palace Dividend Cheque for £ 3 8s., payable at the Union Bank ; a Londonderry and Enniskillen Cheque for £ 4 8s., payable at Roberts' Bank; and a Brazilian Railway Dividend Cheque for £ 7 19s. 7d., payable at Rothschild's Bank. ' Sarah Gardner ' on cheques.— Metropolitan Police, H Division, February 22. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. The dwelling- house of Mr. S. C. Walton, of Ashbourne, Derbyshire, was broken and entered between 3 and 4 p. m. on the 2nd instant, during the absence of the family, and two silver Tea Spoons, marked ' S. L. W.,' two ditto, electro, not marked, and three Sovereigns, were stolen therefrom. Infor- mation to be given to Mr. Superintendent James Corbishley, Constabulary, Ashbourne, Derbyshire.— Bow- street, March, 4. During the night of the 1st instant, the office of Mr. Heptinstall, miller, of Castleford, was broken and entered, and the following property stolen therefrom, viz.: about 10s. in Copper Money, a dark grey mixture shooting Coat, black horn buttons, bound with black braid, pockets inside and out, and much worn ; a light grey dress Coat, thin material, has been washed, pockets outside and one inside left breast, ink mark inside left breast caused by wiping a pen, and large brown buttons, one of which is broken ; a black curled hairy Cap, with ear covers. Information to be given to Mr. Superinten- dent Hall, West Riding Sessions House, Pontefract, Yorkshire. — Bow- street, March 4. Stolen during the night of the 27th ultimo, from the dwelling- house and shop of Mrs. Mary Rushton, grocer, Wokingham, Berks, by means of housebreaking: a very old- fashioned small silver verge Watch, flat glass slightly fractured, round handle, had a piece of black ribbon and a brass key attached ; a very old- fashioned pinchbeck Watch, back very much scratched and worn, minute hand broken off in middle, had attached a small gold Seal with white stone ( a man with a hammer in his hand in the act of striking on an anvil); about s- i! 4bs. of Shag Tobacco ; a gammon of fiacon, about 12 lbs. ; about 3 lbs. of Wiltshire Cheese ; aboire 5s. in Copper ; and about 3s. in Threepenny and Fourpenny Pieces. Infor- mation to be given to Mr. Superintendent O'Neill, Consta- bulary Station, Wokingham, Berks.— Bow- street, March 2. Stolen from a warehouse in the borough of Oldham, on the night of the 27th or early the following morning, by means of unlocking the warehouse door, and afterwards forcing open the counting- house door, 10s. in Silver, 16s. worth of Receipt Stamps, and 5s. worth of Postage Stamps. Information to be given to Mr. James Wetherell, Chief Constable, Oldham, Lan- cashire.— Bow- street, February 29. Between the 3rd December last and the 24th instant, during the absence of the family, the dwelling- house of Thomas Atkinson, of the township of Sedbergh, Yorkshire, licensed hawker, was broken and entered, and four striped cotton Shirts ; a pair of ribbed fustian Trousers ( boy's size); a green cloth Crimean Overcoat; a large diaper Table Cover ; a woman's lilac cotton Dress; a black and green Counterpane on white ground ; a woollen Blanket; a small piece of bedside Carpet; and three or four Pillowcases, stolen therefrom. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Exton, West Riding Court Room, Ingleton, near Lancaster, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, February 29. Description of a ticket- of- leave convict, No. of licence 114 A, charged with burglary : a man, 21 years of age, 5 feet 4! j inches high, fair complexion, full face, high cheekbones, light hair; dressed in dark clothes.— Metropolitan Police » P Division, February 26. Between 6 and 9 p. m. on the 21st instant, a dwelling- house at Mirfield was broken and entered, and the following property stolen : a patent lever gold Watch, engine- turned, cracked enamelled dial, black Roman figures, gold hands, and seconds hand broken off, had attached a gold Albert Chain, gold Key with puce stone, and a small Trinket in imitation of a Bible ; a pair of plain gold Earrings ; a gentleman's plain, gold Ring with white stone ; and about 15 yards of black Silk. A reward of £ 10 will be given for such information as shall lead to the recovery of the property, and conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Mr.. Super- intendent Martin, West Riding Constabulary, Dewsbury, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, February 24. During the night of the 20th instant the dwelling- house of Mr. John Coleman, Walmer, Kent, was broken and entered, and a grey and white tame Rabbit; an unbleached Table- cloth ; two white ditto ; three pairs, of men's Boots ( one elastic! side, one cossack, and one balmoral); a blue Overcoat with velvet collar, torn on the inside, flannel check lining; a ditto with pockets outside ; a ditto with light drab lining ; a Sheet; several links of Sausages; and about 2£ lbs. of thin Derby Cheese stolen therefrom. Information to be given to Mr. Super- intendent W. Stokes, Kent Constabulary, Sandwich.—- Bow- street, February 24. Stolen from a shop in Oldham, on the night of the 14th instant, during the absence of the family, by unlocking the shop door, four pairs of women's Boots, with kid tops, elastic sides, patent leather fronts, and military heels ; a pair of men's Boots, with elastic sides, and black polished soles ; a pair of men's Boots, with elastic sides, goloshed round with patent leather, cramped points, fronts witl) 6 white imitation buttons; and a pair of short Wellington Boots. During tlie night of the lTth instant, the house of John Meakin, near Wrexham, Denbighshire, was broken and entered, and the following property stolen then from : a light cashmere Shawl, with large flower in corner, of different colours ; a pair of brown calico Sheets ; a flannel Shirt, with long sleeves and wristbands ; a pair of black cloth Boots, laced up inside, nearly new ; a pair of blue woollen Stockings ; two brown felt Hats, children's size ; a white double- breasted moleskin Waistcoat; two white lambs wool Mufflers ; eight Eggs ; a pack of Cards; and a double- breasted black frock Coat, much worn. V On the 10th irtstttnt, the parish church at Newland, Gloucester, was broken and entered, and a small black glazed linen Bag, about 14 inches \ j 10 was stolen. Supposed by travelling bellhangers or tramps. A reward of £ 10 will be paid by the churchwardens of Newland to any one who will give such information as will lead to the conviction of the offenders. Stolen . between 1) p. m. on t{ ie 24t) i, and, 6a. m. on the 25th instant, from a farm- yard in tho occupation of Mr. Saunders, at Cane end, in the parish of Caversham, Oxon, a black Filly, rising 4 years old, white star on forehead, white streak down the nose, one wl/ ite heel, bang tail, has a crack in the hoof of the off fore foot, extending from the back to the centre on the outside of the . hoof. Further information respecting the Horse stolen from Moon's Leaze, Purton, Wilts, and advertised in the Police Gazette of the 16th instant: it is rather of a bright bay with dark leg?, mane, and tail, in good working condition, and a small white spot, about the size of a shilling, in front of the near foot. A tramping navvy is suspected who absconded from the house, and is of the following descrip- tion : about 18 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, sunburn complexion, small visage, light yellow hair, very thick lower lip, and has a large tooth projecting out from the left side of upper jaw ; dressed when he absconded, in a long drab coat, mended on the sleeves and front, the side pockets have been cut in the new pieces, and very large pockets have been made in the linings, old brown waistcoat, with pieces about 3 inches wide sewn down the front, each piece overlapping the other, old dark waistcoat underneath, old brown mixture trousers, mended in front with pieces of about f- yard of light- coloured corduroy, which makes him look very remarkable, old cap, and strong navvy boots. Drake, Bart., Nutwell Lodge, Woodbury, Devonshire, on the 26th instant, by means of a begging letter : he states that his name is JOHN EDWARD WALLBEOFF, born in the Island of Ceylon, for some years employed in the civil service of that island, and late of George- court, near Great Peter- street, Westminster ; 45 years of age, ( looks much older), 5 feet 9 inches high, fair complexion, sun- burnt, very grey hair and whiskers, hazel eyes, and has the marks of leech- bites on the left breast; dressed in rusty black frock coat, grey vest and trousers, plaid scarf fastened with horse- shoe pin, brown ' pot pole hat," boots with elastic sides, and white turndown collar : he is remanded until the 3rd proximo. A quantity of letters were found on him, and it is supposed that he has obtained hie living for the last three or four years by begging, as some of the letters are dated as far back as 1861, and purport to come from gentlemen who knew either this man or his father in Ceylon.
