Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the pur- pose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signature of the person Tsquiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to MR. W. D. BURNABY, the Editor, Police Court, Bow- street, London, W. C. *„* Whenever it is desired that any person should ue appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that in Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. Aa no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not bo made. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from the regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Mall, London, S. W." as they cannot be published without his authority. Stolen, about 9.35 p. m. on the 13th instant, from the person of a gentleman, in Manchester, a silver lever Watch, Cream coloured dial, gold bands, Roman numerals, maker Haydock, Manchester, No. 4074. Any person giving such information as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders and recovery of the property shall receive 30s. reward. Information to be given to Mr. Super- intendent, C. W. God y, B Division, Livesey- street, Oldliam- road ; or at any Police Station in Manchester.— Bow- street, February 17. About 7 p. m. on the 6th instant, as Joseph Walker, of Wath, collier, was passing along the highway between Womb- well and Wath, he was knocked down by four men, who robbed him of £ 3 in Gold, two Half- crowns, three Shillings, and a steel Tobacco- box, with a jug, glass, two pipes, and ' J. W.' engraved on the lid. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Gillett, Court House, Rotherham, York- shire. — Bow- street, February 12. INFORMATIONS MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. Description of a man who is charged upon a warrant with shooting at William Duncombe, a game watcher on Major Hall's estates, in the parish of Ospringe, near Faversham, Kent, between 12 and 1 a. m. on the 25th ultimo : ALFRED HERRING, a native of Wye, Kent, has lived as ostler at public- houses, and sometimes hawks nuts, about 30 to 35 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, light complexion, little or no whiskers, peculiar gruff voice ; he will most likely be found in the company of poachers, or at low public or beer houses. Information to he given to Mr. T. M. Green, Superintendent of Police, Sittingbourne, Kent, or to T. R. Jenner, Sergeant of Police, Ospringe, Kent.— Bow- street, February 17. Absconded on the 27th ultimo, from his residence, Rlios, Ruabon, charged, on a coroner's warrant, with manslaughter, JOHN HUGHES, about 22 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, no whiskers or beard, black hair, thin face, boil on the right side of face, pale yellow complexion, pimples on his face, has a gathered finger, and a bad knee ; when leaving his residence he was dressed in a brown cloth shooting jacket, small check pattern, with two patches on it, wrong side of the cloth out- wards, and the check is 3 16ths of an inch square, cord trousers worn at the bottom, and torn between the legs, red and white cotton scarf, short Wellington boots, one of them burst on the inside, and black cap. He is a collier's labourer, and is known at Hanley, in Staffordshire, where he was about five months ago ; it is supposed that he may now be on some line of railway. Information to be given to Mr. John Bradshaw, Superintendent, Wrexham, Denbighshire, who holds the warrant for his appre- hension.— Bow- street, February 12. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the persons of gentlemen, on the racecourse at Sutton Coldfield, Warwickshire, on the 15th instant, a gold Watch, ' John Rawlins' engraved on inside case ; and on the 16th instant, a silver hunting Watch, No. 1407. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent S. Bloxham, Aston, near Birmingham.— Brno- street, February 19. Stolen on the morning of the 15th instant, near the hustings, Town Hall, Brighton, during the election, from the person of a gentleman, a gold hunting Watch, ' W. M R.' engraved on outer case. Information to be given to the Chief Constable, Town Ilall, Brighton.— Bow street, February 19. Stolen from the person of a gentleman, on the racecourse, Sutton, near Birmingham, on the 15th instant, a medium- sized gold lever Watch, engine- turned back, arm and arrow in shield, white dial, steel hands, ' John Rawlins' engraved on outside of inner case. Information to be given at the Detective Department, Moor- street, Birmingham.— Bow- street, Feb. 19. Description of a man charged with stealing from the person of a farmer at the horse fair at Northallerton, Yorkshire, on the 12th instant, a Pocket- book, containing three £ 5 Notes ( two of which have been recovered) and several Sovereigns: about 26 years of age, 5 feet 11J inches high, resh com- plexion, grey eyes, brown hair cut short, square build, pock- pitted, moles on both arms, both forefingers broken ; dressed in grey stable jacket, woollen cord trousers, and black billycock hat. He attends fairs, is a low horsedealer, and has the appear- ance cf a pugilist. lie is supposed to be from Leeds by his dialect. Information to be given to Mr. George Haward, Deputy Chief Constable, Northallerton, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, February 19. During the night of the 16th instant the dwelling- house of Hannah Chapman, of Carbrooke, Norfolk, was broken and entered, and a Sovereign, two Half- sovereigns, a Crown- piece, and a silver verge Watch, with steel hands, maker Spendlove, Thetford. Information to be given to Inspector Watson, Watton, Norfolk.— Bow street, February 19. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. During the night of the 17th instant, the house of Thos. Miles, diaper, of Bute- street, was broken and entered, and six pairs of moleskin Trous'rs, six Waistcoats, and several white cotton Shirts, stolen therefrom. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent J. B. Stockdale, Cardiff, Glamorganshire. — Bow- street, February 19. Stolen during the night of the 15th instant, by means of housebreaking, from the residence of the Rev. Chas. Ellison, at Bracebridge : 1 meerschaum Pipe, large bowl, mounted in silver, silver lid, crest- a griffin's head, with a chased rose, sham rock, and thistle, and is coloured by smoking. 1 meerschaum Pipe, large bowl, circular silver cover, has not been much used. 1 meerschaum Pipe, old- fashioned, carved with large figure of a woman with a child in her arms, and would hold an ounce ot tobacco, 1 billiard Pipe, in case. 1 set of plain round gold Studs, crest on one side— a griffin's head. 1 set, of dark blue ( nearly black) enamel Studs, one pearl in centre, and four diamonds forming a star. 1 massive signet Ring, plain gold, with red stone, crest— griffin's head, and motto ' Spem Sequimer.' 1 gold Ring, engraved inside' 22 Sept., 1863.' 1 snake Ring, enamelled line round the snake, engraved inside ' Sir G. Chetwynd, Bart., obit May 24tb, 1850.' 1 medium sized oval French Timepiece, brass case, maker's name on f « ce, and ' Paris ' underneath, has a ring at the top, two boles for winding in back of case, and small screw out of back. Supposed by a man about 27 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, stout make, dark complexion, has a moustache, but his whiskers are shaved off; dressed in ioose grey coat, and trousers ( striped or ribbed) : has the appearance of a Jew, and was selling steel pens, which he carries in a small pencil box. Whoever will give such information as shall lead to the detec- tion and conviction of the offender or offenders, shiill receive £ 10 reward. Information to he given to Mr. Superintendent Pidgeon, Lincoln, or at, any Police Station in the county of Lincoln.— Bow- street,, February 17. The shop of JOSEPH GOODMAN, pawnbroker, Merthyr Tydfil, wa9 broken and entered on the night of the 12th inst., and the following property stolen therefrom : an old- fashioned silver club Watch ; an old- fashioned silver ditto, dial cracked in many places; a ditto ditto, plain dial; and an old German silver ditto. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Wrenn, Constabulary Office, Merthyr Tydfil, Glamorganshire. — Boio- street, February 15. During the night of the 10th instant or early the following morning, the dwelling- house of Mr. Thomas Southam, Wimp- stone, near Stratford- on- Avon, was broken and entered, and stolen therefrom, a brown cloth Great Coat, plaid lining ; four pairs of blucher Boots, two pair fresh soled, and nailed round the outside with sprigs; a pair of strong lace up Boots ; an old black cloth Mantle, and an old blue Jersey Apron. Informa- tion to be given to James Thompson, Superintendent of Police, Shipston- on- Stour, or to Wm. Rawlings, Inspector of Police, Stralford- on- Avon.— Bow- street, February 15. On the night of the 12th instant the shop of Mr. Henry Barnett, pawnbroker, Aberdare, Glamorganshire, was broken and entered, and the following Watches stolen therefrom : an old- fashioned silver, No. 1892 ; an old- fashioned French silver, No. 2813 ; a silver gilt, No. 12186 | 18275 ; two silver lever, Nos. 333, 43316 ; two silver Geneva, Nos. 2577, 37285 ; two old- fashioned silver, Nos. 1622, 5836. Information to he given to Mr. Superintendent H. Wrenn, Constabulary Office, Merthyr Tydfil, Glamorganshire.— Bow- street, February 15. Early on the morning of the 9th instant, the house of James Arnett, of the parish of Oving, near Chichester, was broken and entered by three tramps, and two Coats stolen therefrom, which have been found sold in Portsmouth, and one of the men apprehended ; the other two are still at large, and are of the following description : one about 28 years of age, 5 feet inches high, light hair cut short., and has the appear- ance of a soldier; dressed in black frock coat, cord trousers, blue cap with peak, and blucher boots : the other is about 32 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, sandy hair and whiskers, meeting under the chin; dressed in light coat, dark trousers, dark cap with peak, and very bad shoes. The man in custody is remanded till the 18ih instant. Information to be given to Mr. Henry Pratt, West Sussex Constabulary, Chichester.— Bow- street, February 15. Stolen about 6' 15 p. m. the 11th instant, by breaking a large square of glass in the shop window of George Fiddle, of Moulsham, Chelmsford, watchmaker, his property, seven gold Watches, Nos. 7530, 7601, 5735, 5635. 63 64. and one either 13165 or 13169, Geneva manufacture, most of them jewelled in 8 holes, one or two in 5 holes, one English lever, No. 58926. By a man, from 20 to 23 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, thin and rather red face ; dressed in a cap fitting tight to the head ( can be tied down at the ears, large peak), dark short jacket, and cord jacket fitting tight to the legs ; he can be identified, Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent May, Springfield, Chelmsford.— Bow- street, February 15. Absconded from Ipswich, on the 5th instant, charged with breaking and entering the warehouse of Messrs. Henry and George S. Clarke, shoe manufactuerrs, situate in the parish of Saint Mary Elms, Ipswich, stealing therefrom £ 20 in Gold and Silver: ALFRED HOY, a shoemaker, and a native of Nor- wich, 33 years of age, 5 feet 11 inches high, light hair and complexion, light moustache, and no whiskers ; dressed in a light grey overcoat, cord trousers with fly fronts and fitting tight to his legs, rather round- shouldered, and stoops a little when walking ; he belongs to the Norfolk Artillery Militia, and is supposed to be now wearing a pair of socks helonging to that corps. Information to be given to W. C. Mason, Head Constable, Town Hall, Ipswich, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, February 12. Description of WILLIAM NICHOLLS, who is charged with housebreaking, in the mouth of August last, at the parish of Kenwyn, Cornwall: he is about 18 years of age, about 5 feet high, dark hair and eyes, dark complexion, bow- legged ( par- ticularly the right one) ; he is a rag and bone gatherer^ and is supposed to be now in the connty ot Kent, most likely at Dover, and will probably endeavour to ship 011 board some merchant vessSt. The whole of the property stolen, is now in the hands of the Police. Information to be given to Mr: ' Superintendent Complin, County Police Station, Truro, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, February 10. Between 12 midnight on the 6th, and 7' 30 a. m. on the 8th instant, the lock- up shop belonging to John Howarth, grocer, Stock port- road, Longsight, was broken and entered, and the following property stolen therefrom, viz.: a Box containing 36 lbs. of Tea ( Young Hyson); a Box containing 21 lbs. of ditto, the box is marked ' 61 ( C underneath) 528 H ( in a diamond) No. 11, Seasons 1860 and 1861 ;' a Box containing 20 lbs. of black Caper Tea, the box is No. 3549 ; 40 lbs. of different sorts, from a number of canisters in the shop ; 20 or 22 loaves of Sugar, weighing 3| cwts. ; a box ot Raisins, about 14 lbs. weight; 1J lb. of Figs; lb. of Tobacco ; 6s. in Copper, and 2s. in Silver. Information to be given to the Superintendent of the County Police, Old Trafford, near Manchester.— Bow- street, February 10. Between the hours of 6 and 12 p. m. of the 7th instant, the dwelling- house of John Eden, Clough House Farm, Bedford, was broken and entered, and a leather Purse, containing £ 2 10s. in Gold, £ 7 in Silver, a spade Guinea, and a gold Wedding Ring, stolen therefrom. Information to be given to Mr. Super- intendent Jackson, Constabulary, Town Hall, Leigh, near Manchester.— Bow- street, February 10. During t he night of the 4th instant, the shop of Messrs. Kemp and Son, stationers, Beverley, was broken and entered, and 25s. in Silver, and about 20s. worth of Postage Stamps stolen. Information to be given to Mr. William Pattison, Chief Constable, Beverley, Yoikshire.— Bow- street, Feb. 10. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Found, supposed to have been stolen, on the 31st ultimo, at Charlton Hill, Shropshire, a yeailing ewe Sheep of the Welsh breed, marked with pitch ' J. M.' on the left side, and ' R.' on the rump, also marked on left ear, and has a long tail and horns. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent J. Ivins, County Police Office, Shrewsbury ; or to P. C. Purchase, Cressage, Salop.— Bow- street, February 19. Stolen, supposed by gipsies, on the night of the 15th or morning of the 16th instant, from afield at Epping, Essex, a bay Horse, very old, in low condition, broken knees, switch tail. Information to be given to the Superintendent of Police, Epping, Essex.— Bow- street, February 19. Stolen from a yard on the night of the 13th or early on the morning of the 14th instant, at Moon's Leaze, in the parish of Purton, Wilts, a light brown cart Horse, rising 8 years old, 15 hands high, long tail, short mane, little white on off hind fetlock, hair roughed on near side of tail from crupper, no shoe on off hind foot, clean legs, and good action. £ 5 reward with necessary expenses will be paid on conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to the Superintendent of Police at Swindon or Malmesbury, Wilts.— Bow- street, Feb. 17. Stolen on the night of the 13th instant, or early the fol- fowing morning, from a yard at Moon Leaze, Purton, Glouces- tershire, the property of Mr. Lewis, a light brown 1 rising six years old, about 15 hands high, long tail, clean in the legs ; was traced througli thence in the direction of Chippenham or Mj mation to be given to Mr. Haynes, Swindon, or to Mr. Staples, Superintend bury, Wiltshire.— Boio- street, Fcbrua* Supposed to have been "' stolen from a field at Houghton Regis, on the ni .- ht of the 10th or morning of the 11th instant, the property of Mary Elizabeth Scruggs, three wether Sheep ( two South down and one a long- wo<> l Leicester, 2 ye- trs old, marked with ruddle on their backs). Five Pounds reward will be paid to any person who will give such information as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders ( if stolen). Information to he given to Samuel Tope, Superintendent, Luton, Beds.— Bum- street, February 15. Supposed to have been stolen from Mr. Franklin's, Off- churcb, on the 26th ultimo, and was last seen on the 1st ult., on the road between Ufton and Radford, a grey mare Pony, with the letter ' It' branded on near hip and under the mane, 5 years old ; a bay Mare Pony, 9 years old ; and a roan Colt, 2 years old; from 11 to 12 hands" high each. Information to be given to Inspector Gaskin, Southam ; or to Mr. Franklin, Offchurch, Warwickshire.— Bow- sweet, February 15. Supposed to have heen stolen from Eversley Green, Hunts, on the 3rd instant, a brown mare Pony, about 5 years Old, 12J hands high, and short tail. Information to he given to Mr. W . Howard, Superintendent, Hants Constabulary, Aldershut.— Bow- street, February 12. Supposed to have been stolen, about 8 p. m. ok the 31st ultimo, from a field at Harlesden Green, Middlesex, a brown Pony, 4 years old, 14 hands high, scar just above the right- knee, the property of E. Burgess. Information to be given at the Police station, Harlesden Green, Middlesex.— Bow- street, February 12. Supposed to have been stolen from a field at Perry Ban-, Staffordshire, on the 28th ultimo, one ewe and eleven Lambs, with black legs and faces, the property of Mr. John Birch, of Perry Barr. All reasonable expenses will be paid by G. M. Birch, on the recovery of the sheep and conviction of the offenders. Information to be given, to Sergeant John Richards, Police Office, Handsworth, Staffordshire.— Btrwtmeet, Feb. 12. Supposed to have been stolen, about the 15th ultimo, from the Ranscliffe Farm, near Kidsgrove, Staffordshire, three Colis of the following description : one bay Filly, rising 2 years old ; one brown Filly, iising 1 year old ; and One. grey Pony ( filly), rising 1 year oid. Information to be given to the Inspector of Police, Tunstall; or at any of the Police Offices in the county of Stafford.—' Bow- street, February 12. Absconded on the 6th inst., from the service of Mrs. Sears, 33, Castle- street, Holborn, stealing a black leather Box, with brass nails, containing a gold Geneva Watch, small gold Chain, Charm in shape of a fan, brown Guard attached, a gold Scarf- ring ( set with stones), a lady's gold Ring ( emeraldsand pearls), a large gold Brooch, anew black silk Dress ( flounced), a Paisley Shawl, a black Shawl, Drawers, Nightdres es, Chemises, Petti- coats ( one black, the others white, some marked ' M. A. Sears' in ink), a pair of Blankets, seven pairs of calico Sheets ( new), Towels, Table Napkins, Pillow Cases, Stockings, a piece of new F1 nnei, ladies' and gentlemen's Pocket Handkerchief's, a pair of Stays, a black lace Fall, a crape ditto, several Collars, Table- cloths, a Razor, Scissors, some Knives and Forks, a Penknife, three Clothes Brushes, Portfolio, Writing Desk, and a black Writing Case— MARY WALTERS, the servant, 30 years of age, short, dark hair, eyes, and complexion, coarse looking, very much pockmaiked ; shabbily dressed, but may probably be wearing some of the stolen cl > thes. Information to be given to Inspector Leonard, Smithfield Police Station, London, E. C. Bow- street, February 15. Description of THOMAS CARROLL, who is charged upon a warrant with larceny at Ludgershall, Wilts : he is about 25 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, rather stout, florid complexion, no whiskers, dark hair ; dressed in black coat mid trousers, black hat, ; calls himself an optician, and hawks I spectacles. He is accompanied by a young man and a woman whom Carroll calls his wife, she is rather tall, good looking, dark hair. Information to be given to Mr. Thomas Stretton, Superintendent of Wilts Constabulary, Marlborough.— Bow- st., February 15. Absconded from Church Aston, near Newport, Salop, on the 11th instant, charged with stealing £ 1 7s., belonging to his master, Mr. Robert Stevenson, JOSEPH SMITH, farm labourer, about 20 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, lightly made, straight brown hair, no whiskers, awkward gait, turns one foot out ( supposed the left); generally wears a white slop, plaid waistcoat, and cord trousers, sometimes a dark jacket and low- crowned hat. He is a native of Edgmond, near Newport, and may probably be found employed at some farmhouse as waggoner. Information to be given to Mr. J. Richardson, Deputy Chief Constable, Wellington ; or to P. C. ( 7) R. Dovey, Newport, Salop, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, February 15. LARCENY A1B EMBEZZLEMEIT. Slolen on. the night of the 7th instant, from the out- build ing of Mr. Joseph Mort, farmer, of Blackhurst Farm, Dodcott- cum- Wilksley, a drab Smock Frock Coat, with velvet collar and cuffs, large brown buttons on the front, pocket outside on each hip, and one inside left breast ; and three Hame Straps, with brass plates on them, having the letters ' J, M.' cut on each plat$. By a young man, a native of Marchamley Wood. Salop, who may now be wearing the stolen coat, about 5 feet 6 or : 7 inches high, black hair and beard, and wore long leather leggins ; b. as a bunch of keys, and a large granary key in his possession ; he is tramping the country, sleeping in outbuilds ings, and sometimes in Unions. Information to be given to Mr. Charles Laxton, Superintendent ; or to P. C. John Morgan, Audlem, Cheshire.— .• w street, February 19. Description of JOSEPH PURSEY, late Superintendent of the Bristol Bread Concern, charged with embezzling £ 16, the property of the . above company : he is about 85 years of aj, c,- looks older,- about 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, rather florid complexion, bald oil top ot head ; dressed in light clothes as a baker. He recently carried on business as a baker at Bath, and afterwards at Workey, near Wells, Somerset. £ 5 reward will be paid for his apprehension on application to J. S. Hand- cock, Chief Superintendent of Police, Bristol, who holds a warrant for his apprehension. — Bow* st., February 19. Description of., BENJAMIN PAYNE, late of East Grin- stead, labourer, who is charged with stealing from the East Grinstead Union House, oil the 8th instant, a long round Frock, a slioi t, Frock, a cord Waistcoat-, a pair or cord Trou- sers, a flannel Jacket, a Guernsey Under Shirt, a blue striped cotton Slsirt, a pais of ribbed cotton Stockings, a blue and brown plaid: sifjf Handkerchief, and a blue and white woollen Comforter, the property of the Guardians of the East Grinstead Union. He is aliout 36 ytais of, age, 5. feet 6 inches high, . dark complexion, much freckled, darn, brown hair, hazel eye, stout figure, and turns his toes out; supposed to be dressed in the stolen clothes, and to have in his possession a white cotton Shirt, marked ' E. G. U. No. 15,' and a pair of worsted Stockings,- mailed the tnme." Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Kennaid, East Grinstead, who holds a warrant, lor ' iiia apprelrassion-.— Bow- street, February 17. Description of a man who liasi absconded ' from Bolton, charged with stealing a Table Cloth, since found pledged. He, is about 50 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, round face, slender make, fresh complexion, rather sandy whiskers, and dressed in dark clothes and hat, and has a respectable appear- ance. He hawks- almanacks, & c., and frequents common lodging- houses. Information to be given to Mr. James Harris, Chief Constable, Bolton, Lancashire.— Bow- street, February 17. Absconded on the 2nd instant., from Blackwood, in the parish of Bedwelly, charged with obtaining under false pre tences, from Catherine Jones, the sum of £ 11, a silver Watch ( with common Guard attached, maker's name Edward Palmer, London, No. \ 12, old- fashioned), an English Blanket, two old Handkerchiefs ; an old worsted Turnover, and a loaf of Bread, the property of Rees Jones : LEWIS LOVELL, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 ins, high, stout built, sallow complexion, dark hair and whiskers, round face, and supposed to be slightly pockmarked, rather deaf, has a gipsey- like appearance, and t « lks very quick; dressed in a l% ht suit of drab clothes, black billycock hat, lace- up boots with brass eyelets, is a travelling tinker, basket maker, and grinder ; attends fairs and deals in horses, a « ses, and mules, and professed to - be a rat. catcher, and calls at different farm houses for that purpose, and is very active on his feet. MARY LOVELL, alias EVANS, alias SMITH, whom he calls his wife, about 22 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, pro- portionate make,, fresh complexion, dark hair and eyes, rather long features, good looking, and as a gipsy- like appearance; dressed in a plaid flannel,- or light cotton skirt with two flounces, light, jacket, pink cotton apron ( frill round it and a pocket, on right side), black chrak, or a dark flannel scarf shawl, black velvet bpn. net with a large orange coloured feather on left side, a roll inside, of bor. net instead of a front ( mixture of black and white, or red and white), and strong leather boots. They are sometimes accompanied by a lad about 18 or 19 years of age, about. 5 feet 6 or 6 inches high, and wears a blue Guernsey. They are very likely to be found encamping in some bye roads in the counties of Monmouth, Carmarthen, Montgomery, Radnor, and Brecon. The man is supposed to be a native of Staffordshire. He has travelled with James Mace's circus, attending to the horses, sometimes works as a farm labourer, but seldom stops long at one place, and when drunk talks very much about James Mace. A warrant has been issued for the apprehension of JOHN STAITE, who some time ago lived at No. 19, Severn- terrace, Worcester, for obtaining a quantity of Straw under false pretences at Castlemorton. He is about 40 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, stoutly made, black hair and whiskers meeting under cliin, round full face, walks heavily ; dressed in a very loose black jacket and very narrow cord trousers dirty on the thighs. ROBERT URQUART, native of Kendal, Westmoreland, painter, 28 years of age, 5 feet inches high, dark complexion, brown eyes, black hair, scar on via lit eyebrow, wrinkles on fore- head, ' M. L.' iu blue ink on lett arm, two stains in blue on same arm, lisps slightly when speaking ; dressed in au old black coat, old black alpaca overcoat, old dark cloth trousers, grey hat, and old boots; no shirt or stockings. WILLIAM LEWIS, native of Hereford, labourer, 22 years of age, 6 feet 5 inches high, sallow complexion, grey eyes, light red hair, lost an upper front tooth, been cupped on shoulders, burn scar on light side and right knee, appears of dull intellect; dressed in while canvas slop, old daik corduroy trousers, dark cloth cap, fine white shirt with linen front, and old boots. It is suspected that Jones has been convicted iu Chester, and that the others have been previously convicted or have committed offences elsewhere. Information to be given to Captain A. B O. Description of THOMAS CLARKE, who has been committed for trial at the next assizes at Northampton, charged with stealing a copper Furnace : he is 5 feet 11 inches high, fresh complexion, sandy whiskers, and stout make ; dressed in a blue pilot monkey jacket, fustian trousers, brown billycock hat, has the appearance of a navvy. States that he is a native of Tarrington, Herefordshire, that he has been tramping through the country for some time, and thinks that his wife and two children are now in the Union at Newcastle. Description of man who gave the name of GEORGE JONES, of Wednesbury, railway labourer, committed to Salop Gaol for felony : 41) years of age, 5 feet 0 inches high, fresh complexion, grey eyes, oval face, cut on first finger of left hand ; dressed iu a white slop, red comforter, moleskin trousers, and navvy boots. He states that he has been working about Oxford on the railways in construction there ; that he was robbed there of clothes and money, and that the Police are making inquiry about it. Description of a man committed to the House of Correc- tion at Haverfordwest, on the 12rh instant, to fourteen days' imprisonment with hard labour, on a charge of vagrancy. He gave his name SAMUEL BROWN, which is believed to be fictitious, and refused to give any account of himself. He is about 5 feet 1 or 2 inches high, light brown hair, red whiskers meeting under the chin, he has been operated upon for stric- ture, as he states, and he wears a mackintosh bag ; states that lie was in custody at Welshpool, Montgomeryshire, at Christ- mas last., and remanded for seven days; dressed in a short dark- brown coat, blqck trousers and vest, lace- up boots, and higli- crowned hat. He had in his possession a Pocket Pistol, two Bullets, and a Box containing Percussion Caps ; the barrel of the pistol screws off, and has secret trigger, an oval piece of silver let into the bend of the stock ; also a white- handled two- bladed Pocket Knife ( all supposed to have been stolen). On the 13th instant, two men of the following description were committed to the County Gaol at Ipswich, for 21 days, for obtaining Money by false pretences in the borough of Alde- burgh ; they represented that a horse, worth £ 15, fell down and broke its leg in some town or parish a few miles off, and that they had to have it killed in consequence ; sometimes they present a petition, at other times they say persons have giveu theni money, but refused to put their names down. One gave the name of GEORGE WRIGHT, alias EPHRAIM PANNIFER, alias CULHAM, wafer and sealing- wax maker, Brentwood, Essex, 32 years of age, 6 feet 9£ inches high, very dark curly hair, dark complexion, very small whiskers, dark eyes, scar on right side of neck about an inch- and- a- half long, crown and anchor pricked on back of left hand ; dressed in white jacket, plaid waistcoat, brown striped trousers, strong lace- up boots with brass eyelet- holes, dark necktie, white turn- down collar, billycock hat, and white shirt. The other gave the name of MICHAEL YORK, stonemason, L mgford,; Ireland, 36 years of age, about 6 feet 7 inches high, light com-" plexion, sandy hair, thin whiskers, bald on crown of head dressed in old dark cloth coat, clie^ k waistcoat ( small pattern), with white buttons, light figuied cloth trousers, old buttou boots, blue and black satin neck scarf, and white shirt. Description of a tramp committed for trial at the assizes to be held at Reading on the 24th instant, for felony at Wan- tage. He gave the name of JOHN WATSON, a Scotchman, and states that he belongs to Edinburgh, is 60 years of age, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, thin spare figure, grey hair, whis- kers shaved off, fresh complexion, and has a peculiar winking of the eyes ; dressed iu a brown chesterfield coat, snuff- coloured cloth waistcoat, which buttons up to the neck, light trousers with a stripe down the side, and an old blue cloth cap with peak. He is supposed to have committed offences elsewhere, and to have been previously convicted. Description of a man and woman committed to Oakham Gaol, for trial at the assizes to be held on 1st March next, charged with stealing from the person of Mrs. Wilson, a Purse containing £ 3 iu cash, on the Great Northern Railway, at Essendine Station, on the 11th instant: the man says his name is JOHN BENTLEY, 31 years of age, 6 feet 9 inches high, light brown hair ( turning grey, inclined to curl at sides) and whiskers round chin, brown eyes, large features, full face, has a large scar between the shoulders, scar on small of back, also on left side of neck, and on third finger of left hand, the nail of which finger is deformed ; dressed in grey witney tup coat, black vest and trousers, plaid s - art', and black hat ; lie is well made, and says that he was born at Newcastle on- Tyne, but has no settled place of residence, and that he is a gasfitter, had with him a tin box containing a quantity of gas burners, & c., which he occasionally offers for sale. The woman says sue is his wife, and also born at Newcastle- on- Tyne, and gives the name of ELLEN BENTLEY, 30 yeais of use 5 ft. 1 iu. high, dark complexion, long thin face, brown hair and eyes, sear on back of right hand, slender make ; dressed in worsted jacket, black figured dress, blactc silk mantle, cashmere shawl, and black straw bonnet trimmed wi h violet- coloured ribbon. They are supposed to have been previously convicted of felony. Description of a woman, who gives the name of EMILY LAWSON ( supposed to be fictitious), in custody at Canter- bury, for telony committed at Whitstable, Kent: about 25 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, blue eyes, pale fl, t face, small scar on forehead, irregular teeili, stoutly built; dressed in a brown straw hounet trimmed with blown ribbon and red flower in front, long dark brovvn rough cloak with wide sleeves lined with red silk, blue and black striped silk dress, black hairy muff, boots with patent fronts, and had with her a dirty white grass bonnet. She carried a brown Bilk umbrella and a small tancy bag containing a Bible, inscribed ' Ellen Beach, the gilt of a friend, July 21st, 1861,' & c.; a Prayer Book, inscribed ' Mary Walker, November 11th, 1856;' a Psalm Book, red cover, for New Windsor Church ; a Psalm and Hymn Book, fly- leaf torn out ; a Comic Song Book ; and four numbers of the Child's Own Magazine, ' Alice Croucher, Blackheath,' written oil them iu pencil ; and two Book Markers, one ' Keep the Commandments,' and the other ' Suffer iittle children to come unto me,' & c. She obtained board and lodging iu the house of Mrs. S. Putwaine, of Whitstable, stating that she was a lady's- maid at Malesden park, and absconded on the night of the 7th instant, stealing several articles of clothing. She is supposed to have committed offences elsewhere, and to have beeu previously convicted. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent W. Walker, Kent County Constabulary, Canterbury.— Bow- street, February 17. Description of CHARLES ASHWELL, committed for trial at the next sessions at Stafford, for stealing two Watches. He is about 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, dark complexion, dark hair, small dark whiskers and beard, and slightly built ; states that he is a native of Eaton Locon, Bed- fordshire, where he has been working as a farm labourer. It is suspected that he has committed offences elsewhere, or that he has been previously convicted. Description of THOMAS HEAD, who is committed to the Beaumaris Gaol, for two months for vagrancy : 36 years of age, 6 leet 8 inches high, dark brOwn hair, blue eyes, fresh complexion, slender build, born in Galway, a labourer, was last working in Shropshire, can read a little, is a roman catholic, great toe of lett foot bent under the next toe, a scar 2 or 3 inches in diameter on right shin, and speaks with a strong Irish accent ; dressed in a tustiau coat and waistcoat, corduroy trousers, blucher boots, black jimcrow hat, blue cotton neckerchief with white spots. He was sentenced to seven years transportation at Beaumaris, in the year 1851, in the name of THOMAS SMITH ; he was in custody in the year 1856, in the name of THOMAS KELLY, for an assault, and acquitted. Missing from his home at Leeds, since the 1st instant, a boy named WILLIAM REES SHAW, 10 years of age, light hair, fair complexion, has a scar on forefinger of right hand, and on back of neck, and dressed when he left home in a suit of black cloth, a billycock hat with brim turned down, and elastic- side boots. Description of a female who is committed for trial at the next general quarter sessions to be held in Ripoii, on two charges of shoplifting : she gives the name of MARY BROWN, mantle maker, New- road, Liverpool ( both name and address supposed to be assumed), 24 years of age, but looks older, 6 feet inches high, auburn hair, very pale face, thin features, eyes sunken, long thin nose, and thin in person ; well dressed, in a brown fancy mixture narrow striped stuff dress, trimmed and waved on the bottom with a brown frilled ribbon, black coburg Garibaldi jacket, black leather belt with clasp, black jet brace- lets, black silk apron with three narrow violet stripes at the bottom, a Paisley shawl, fastened with a large cameo brooch, a white crinoline bonnet, trimmed outside with scarlet and green plaid ribbon, a plain cambric twilled front with small scarlet geranium flowers, intermixed with imitation seaweed and small shells, and plain green ribbon strings, a brown fur muff, and kid boots with elastic sides, nearly new ; carries with her a dark brown leather satchel, and a lady's green silk umbrella : she states that she had an illegitimate child ( a boy), about years ago, which is at present alive, and in charge of her triends. The following property was found in her possession when apprehended, and is supposed to have been stolen : a woollen Shawl, & rey, drab bottom, plaided with violet, and a fringe to match ; a roll of narrow green Ribbon, about 16 yds. long, private mark torn off; 6 yards of narrow violet Ribbon ; C yards of broad magenta Ribbon, with a black and white ( lower in it; 6 yards of broad plain green Ribbon ; a short length of violet- coloured Silk ; a lady's black spotted lace Veil; and a pair of lady's drab French kid Gloves; all the above- mentioned articles are quite new : also a dark blue plain leather Purse, with an elastic baud, containing £ 3 in Gold ; a fancy blue ribbed leather Purse, with an elastic band, containing 4s. 9d. in Silver ; a fancy leather Purse, partly worn, and empty, witl gilt stripes round eaeh end, and fastens with a brass snap, in imitation of a Prince of Wales's plume ; the 12ill vol. of the ' Congregational Lectures,' Dr. Hamilton's ' Rewards and Punishments,' and Brock's ' Biographical Sketch of Sir Henry Havelock, K. Description of LAWRENCE CARR, who is remanded until the 15th instant, charged with picking pockets at the Dudley Railway Station : about 33 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, dark hair and whiskers, pockpitted, two marks on the lett shoulder from abscesses, large varicose veins in both legs, and has the left eye blackened ; dressed in a black frock coat ( over which he sometimes wears a drab alpaca), brown vest, cord trousers, lace- up boots, striped cotton shirt, purple heck- scarf, and black hat; he is a tailor by trade. Further information respecting the two men in custody at Overton, Flintshire, charged with committing the burglary at the Erbistock Rectory, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 29th ultimo. The younger man, JOHN MATTHEWS, has been committed for trial, and the other, JAMES SHAW, has been discharged. It is suspected that they are the same men who committed the burglary, stealing a large quantity of silver plate, & c., at Major Whittaker's, Newcastle Court, Radnorshire, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 7th December last. They were followed, and their van searched on that occasion, when the elder gave his name JOHN WILKINSON, a native of Swansea, and the younger that of JOSEPH ROBIN, of Wantage, and had a hawker's licence in that name, obtained at Brighton ; his present licence is in the name of RICHARD BARRETT, Wantage, No. 2442, ob- tained at Birmingham. HENRY WALTERS, a labourer, 27 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, fair complexion, brown eyes ( blind in the left one), dark hair, rather stout figure ; states that he is a native of Bristol; scar on right side of neck from an abscess, nose turned up a little, scar on under lip, and on left shin ; dressed in an old dirty jean coat, cord trousers, and dark cap. GEORGE WALKER, a chimney sweep, 23 years of age, 5 feet inch high, fair complexion, grey eyes, brown hair, and inclined to be stout; states that tie is a native of North- ampton ; scars on forehead and nose, which has been broken, and is rather large, mole on back of neck, figure of a woman on right arm, lett arm has been broken and is rather crooked, and scar on both knees; dressed in an old dark cloth coat, rest, and trousers, and cap. It is suspected that Walters has been previously convicted in Nothalierton, Yorkshire, and Usk, Monmouthshire; and that Walker has been convicted in Montgomeryshire and elsewhere. Stolen during the night of the 14th instant, or early on the following morning, from Mr. Thomas Lees, the Plassy Farm, Willington, Flintshire, a blue pilot cloth Overcoat, with covered buttons, much worn; a drabbet Coat, with velvet collar and large horn buttons ; a pair of Blucher Boots, with four bice holes ; and a pair of light button Boots. Stolen, on the night of the 8th or morning of the 9th instant, from a stable loft at Chipknowes, in the parish of Applegarth, Dumfriesshire, the following property : 1 silver verge Watch, No. 1785, chaptered dial, had attached a curb pattern Chain, two brass Seals ( one set with blue and the other with a red stone), and an old brass Key : inside of case there were several papers with ' John Graham, watchmaker, Moffat,' printed thereon. 1 black leather Pocketbook, half- worn, with several red morocco pockets; fastened with a piece of india rubber, which is knotted, having been broken. 1 brown tweed cloth Frock Coat, loose made, pocket with flap in each skirt, pocket inside and outside of left breast, row of dark horn buttons down front, lined with dark cotton, nearly new. 1 £ 1 Note. 1 brown tweed cloth Vest, lined with dark cotton, two outside pockets, one in breast, row of small dark horn buttons. 1 pair of brown tweed cloth Trousers, striped brown and slate, white horn buttons, haif- worn. 1 pair of dark tweed cloth Trousers, light check between dark stripes, half- worn. 4 white cotton Shirts, half worn, one with plain linen front, small white pearl buttons 011 breast of all. 1 red striped woollen Shirt, white pearl buttons, nearly new. 3 pairs of light blue woollen Socks, all clean, some may have holes in them, half- worn. 1 Pocket- knife, white bone handle, large blade in one end and small pen blade in other. 1 Razor, white handle. 1 Shaving Brush. 1 light silk Napkin, checked. 1 leather waist Strap. Two tramps are suspected of the following descriptions : one, 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, stout made, dark hair and whiskers, full face, dissipated appearance, lost two fingers ( supposed from right hand); dressed in a dirty thin moleskin jacket and trousers, checked tartan slop without sleeves, old boots, and grey cloth cap with peak ; looked like a groom or stableman : the other, about 20 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, stout made, full face, brown hair, no whiskers ; dressed in blue cloth cap, blue cloth frock coat, dirty moleskin trousers, and clogs; had the appearance of a navvy. Two men of the following description entered the Museum in the city of Canterbury, between 8 and 9 p. m. on the 13th instant, for the purpose of reading the newspapers, and whilst the attention of the attendant was taken by a ring at the front door, supposed by a companion of the said men, they came out, and shortly after their departure it was discovered that a few shillings which were in a subscription box, and a Book entitled ' White's Melbourne,' had been stolen. One man was about 24 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, and dressed in black cloth coat, grey mixture trousers, and black hat; the other about 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, dark hair, whiskers, and moustache, and had on a dark invernesscape.
