The Names of Persons charged until Offences who are known but not in custody, and a Description of those who are not known, their Appearance, Dress, and other marks of identity. Tit* Names of Accomplices and Accessories, with every particular which may lead to their Apprehension. A Description, as accurate as possible, of Proper?, that has been stolen, and a minute Description of Stolen Horses, for the purpose of tracing and recovering them. Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the pur- pose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or tending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to ME. C. *,* Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor must Die ;> rcpai< l, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Dtierlers and Absentees front the Militia, as well as those from the regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Mall, London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. INFORMATIONS MURDER AND MAXICIQUSLY WOUNDING. Further information respecting the men charged with assaulting and wounding P. C. Henry Robertson, at Ilexham, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 27th ultimo : the three men in custody are committed for trial at the next quarter sessions to be held at the Moot Hall Courts, Newca3tle on- Tyne, on the 6th January next. JAMES, alias JAMIE READEN, alias RIDDELL, is still at large. On further examining the three in custody the following marks are found on their persons. WILLIAM GARLAND, a small mole on right side of face, small pea mark on left side of nose near the eye, cut on left eye- brow, scar on back of right elbow ( extending to fore part of arm, between 2 and 3 inches long), boil mark on back of left shoulder bone, and several boil marks on legs. JACOB JELLY, scar on right knee, cut across nose. ALFRED CURTIS, slight scar on elbow joint, left arm, slight scar out- side of left knee, he belongs to the Leicester Militia. Garland's wife is now living at Cable- street, Oldham- road, Manchester, Jelly was convicted at Reading in December, 1860, of stealing money, he has received a letter from some person living at Market Hall Tavern, Birmingham, promising to send him money. Curtis* s wife is'now living at Queen- street, Belgrave- gate, Leicester; it is suspected that they have all been previously convicted. Information to be given to Major Browne, Chief Constable, Northumberland Constabulary, Alnwick, or to Mr. Stephenson, Superintendent, Hexham.— Bow- street, Dec. 11. Further information respecting the shooting and wounding on the highway at Shottisham, Norfolk, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 4th instant: JOHN LEMON has been apprehended and remanded; GEORGE BALDRY is still at large. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Ward, Police Station, Loddon, Norfolk.— Bow- street, December 7. ARSON AND WILFUL BURNING. On the evening of the 12th instant, three stacks of Wheat, and two stacks of Oats, the properly of John Sharp, Farmer, Kilham ; also one stack of Wheat, and a large quantity of wheat Straw, the property of Richard Fisher, Kilham, burnt; supposed the act of an incendiary. Further information respecting the highway robbery near Leighton Buzzard, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 30tli October last. GEORGE BURROWS, the man there described, has been apprehended and committed for trial at the next assizes. The numbers of the four £ 5 Notes of the Northamptonshire Banking Company are 37110, 37001, 37309, and 37451. Information to be given to the Superintendent of Police, Leighton Buzzard, Beds.— Bow- street, December 14. About 6 p. m. on the 9th instant, as Mr. Thomas Briggs, of Drubb, in the township of Gomersal, cattle dealer, was crossing the fields in the township of Hansworth, near Brad- ford, he was attacked and violently assaulted by two men, of low stature, and dressed in dark clothes, and robbed of twenty- seven Sovereigns, a £ 5 Bank of England Note, thirty Shillings in silver, a buck- horn Pocket Knife, and a small Drawer Key. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Copeland, Court House, Bradford, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, December 14. Stolen from the person of a gentleman, at Middlesbrough, Yorkshire, on the evening of the 6th instant, a patent lever silver Watch, engine- turned cases, silver dial, gold figures, steel hands, No. 3840, dent in the case near the hinges. Infor- mation to be given to Mr. E. J. Saggerson, Chief Superinten- dent, Middlesbrough, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, December 9. About 8 p. m. on the 5th instant a young lady was seized by the throat in the back yard of a dwelling- house in Victoria- street North, Great Grimsby, Lincolnshire, by a man, of the following description, who snatched at and broke her watch chain, but did not succeed in getting the watch and guard from her person : about 5 feet 8 inches high, stoutly made, moustache ; wearing a billycock hat. Information to be given to Mr. Chief Superintendent Campbell, Town Hall, Grimsby, Lincolnshire.— Bow- street, December 7. About 1 a. m. of the 6th instant, Patrick Cunniffe, of Greasbrough, labourer, was attacked on the turnpike road at Carr- hill, in the township of Greasborough, by three men, who threw him down, and took from him a silver Geneva Watch, No. 10462, enamelled dial, with part of a silver chain attached ; and Is. 6d. in Silver. The men had with them a large brown dog, and two smaller ones. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Gillett, Court, House Rotherham ; or to Ser- geant Home, Rawmarsh, Yorkshire.— Bow- street., December 7. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. On the night of the 13th instant, the granary of Mr. Thos. Brown, of the Spoad, near Newcastle, Salop, was broken and entered, and twelve Fleeces of Wool of a cross breed of Welsh and Southdown Sheep stolen therefrom, pitchmarked on the side or hip with ' T. L.' or ' T. B.' It is suspected that the wool may be sold to travelling wool gatherers. Informa- tion to be given to Mr Superintendent Baxter, Church Stretton, or to P. C. ( 18) William Preece, Clun, Salop.— Bow- street, December 16. Description of a man who gives the name of JOHN DURKEN, against whom a warrant has been issued for his apprehension, charged witfc breaking into the warehouse of Robert Stretton, of Uppingham, general dealer, during the night of the 10th instant, and stealing " " " hare and rabbit Skins, and a Sack is an Irishman, about 30 years of ai light made, thin long face, a little crooked, ligh to be sa drinj Brandy ; two dark silk Handkerchiefs, one quite new and not hemmed ; one small Money Box, belonging to the children, supposed to contain about 20s. in Silver and Copper ; one piece of white Calico, about 4 yards ; one piece of brown Holland, about 3 yards ; one pair of new linen Sheets, not made ; 12 lbs. of brown Sugar, in a paper parcel; ^ lb. of Tea ; and several small miscellaneous articles belonging to a lady's work' The workbox and the bottles which contained the spirits i found in an outbuilding on the premises. During the night of the 10th or morning of the 11th instant, the shop of Mr. James Worrall, of Whitby, Cheshire, was broken into, and the following property stolen therefrom : 1 pair of elastic side Boots; middle size, in good repair. 1 printed cotton Dress, broad lilac and white stripe. 1 mohair Dress, broad brown and white stripe. 1 pair of black leather Leggings, buttons at sides, come up high. 1 black Jimcrow Hat, stiff, No. 7 size. 1 Razor, white bone or ivory handle, ' Made for the Army' engraved on the blade. 1 dark cloth Coat, torn at pockets and darned. 1 old grey cloth coat, lined with alpaca, much torn. 1 old grey cloth Vest, hole outside right pocket. 1 pair of men's elastic side Boots, in good repair. 2 pairs of grey woollen Stockings, one pair knitted, the other woven. 2 gingham Aprons, red and blue plaid. 1 pair of narrow cotton oerd Trousers, recently washed, and two cuts across right leg. 1 blue and white narrow striped cotton Shirt. 1 dark cloth Cap. - i 1 pair of men's Blucher Boots, in good repair^ left boot patched on right side, and right boot twisted from the wearer walking lame. 2J lbs. of twist and cut Tobacco, in ounces and half- ounces, rolled in pieces of * British Workman' and ' Band of Hope'; 8lbs. of Cheese; and 2 lbs. of Spanish Juice. Supposed by four young men, tramps, about 17 to 22 years of age, accompanied by a young woman. They may be wearing the stolen clothes. Information to be given to Mr. Super- intendent Hammond, County Constabulary, Abbey- street, Birkenhead, Cheshire.— Bow- street, December 14. About 12 noon on the 11th instant, some person or persons broke and entered the house of Peter Bullen, of Orrell, Lanca- shire, and stole therefrom a pair of men's elastic- side Boots, nearly new ; a pair of men's blue pilot cloth Trousers, nearly new ; two pairs of knit worsted Stockings, one pair new, the other nearly new ; a pair of light- coloured angola Stockings, mended a little with same material; a long white flannel Shirt, man's size ; two bottles of blackberry Wine, in common black wine bottles; a common oval Brooch, about 2 ozs. of Tea; some Gin, supposed to have been drunk in the house, and 203 fancy Pipes. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Ellison, County Constabulary, Pemberton, Wigan, Lancashire. — Bow- street, December 14. ROBBERY AND L. December 16. heaton, was broken and entered, and the following articles stolen therefrom : three Table Spoons, two Dessert ditto, one pickle Fork, one pair sugar Tongs, one soup Ladle, one gravy Spoon, two salt Spoons, all silver, and marked with the letter ' C five silver Tea Spoons, marked ' J and R ;' 3 lbs. of Tea in tinfoil package with green label; and two brown leather Cigar- cases. A reward of £ 10 will be given for such informa- tion as shall lead to the conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Martin, West Riding Constabulary, Dewsbury.— Bow- streetj December 9. On the night of the 4th, or early on the morning of the 5th instant, the shop of Mr. Thomas Edwards, watchmaker, Bridge- street, Llangollen, was broken into, and stolen there- from : one silver Watsch. square nib, pair of cases, No. 336, ' Thomas Edwards, Corwen; one silver Watch, silver hunting cases, with a silver Guard No. 3064, maker's name ' Glovers and Son, Manchester one nxetal single case Watch, round in the dial, one German silver Watch, double bottom, numbers not known. Information to be given to John Denman, Esq., Chief Constable; or to Mr. Superintendent John Bradshaw, Wrexham; or to Inspector i'aterson, Llangollen, Denbighshire, North Wales.— Bow- street, December 9. Between 4 p. m. on the 7th, and 8 a. m. on the 8th instant, the dwelling- house of Mr. Edward Saynor, Bramham Moor, near Tadcaster, was broken and entered, and the following property stolen therefrom : a purple stuff Dress Piece ; a black quilted stuff Skirt; a pair of women's Boots, new, with elastic sides; two blsck si k Handkerchiefs; a calico Chemise, new, and only part made ; two cotton Shirts, with linen fronts, marked with ink inside the collar ' J. Saynor ;' several gentle- men's Collars, marked ' J. Saynor ;' a purple and black Neck tie ; a red and black woollen Scarf; two pairs of black cloth Trousers ; a short mixture Jacket; a new grey and black striped Coat ; two black swallow- tailed waiters' Coats; a black cloth Coat, large size ; two black cloth Vests ; a black silk velvet Vest ; two pairs of black kid Gloves ; a carving Knife and Fork, with black handles; a fancy Walking- stick, with black knob and gilt hoop round ; and about i' 4 in Gold. By two men, who were seen loitering about the previous day, and who are believed to be wearing some of the stolen clothing, as they have left the whole of their own clothing in the house : one is about 23 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, rather stout, and fresh- looking ; the clothing he left behind consisted of a black loose cloth coat, blue pilot waistcoat, grey cloth cap with peak, black, white, and magenta coloured comforter, and clogs with lace- up fronts : the other man is about 19 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, and rather thin ; he was dressed in black velvet coat, light plaid waistcoat, Oxford grey military trousers, and black cloth boots. Information to be given to Mr. Super- intendent Parkin, West Riding Constabulary, Tadcaster, York- shire.— Bow- street, December 9. Further information respecting the case of housebreaking at Rowde, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 4th instant: the coat, waistcoat, and trousers have been found pledged at Bath by a man of the following description : between 30 and 40 years of age, about 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, full face, dark hair and whiskers ; dressed in a dirty fustian jacket, cord trousers, and black jimcrow hat; had the appearance of a navvy, and is supposed to belong to Somersetshire.^ Informa- tion to be given to the Superintendent of Police, Devizes, Wilts. — Bow street, December 7. Between the hours of 1 and 2 a m. of the 2nd instant, the residence of Major J. A. Whittaker, Newcastle Court, Rad- norshire, WB5 broken and entered, and the following property stolen: a Bread Basket,, ornamented. on the edges with four medallion heads, a Sauce Boat, a Tea Pot, a Cream Jug, and a Skewer, all silver ; eight Table Spoons, two Gravy ditto, four Dessert ditto, six large Forks, four small ditto, six Tea Spoons, two salt ditto; all silver, crest— a trotting horse ; a Butter partment,' and a small brass lock attached ; also 8s. 6d. in hrteepenny and fourpenny bits and copper, stolen therefrom: the property of the London and North- Western Railway Company, Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Laxton, Police Station, Nantwich ; or to Acting Inspector Robert Wood, Crewe.— Bow- street, December 11. Supposed to have been stolen from a field, near Strouds Gloucestershire, between the 30th ultimo and the 4th instant, a yellow cob mare Pony, four years old, between 13 and 14 hands high, dark mane and tail, a dark stripe up the back, a small white spot on forehead, and a small white spot on side in the form of an A, and spavined in both hocks, the property of Mr. Samuel Webb. Hanbridge, Superintendent, Stroudwater, Gloucestershire.-:— Bow- street, December \ l. r f' Found, in the parish of East Stoke, near Wateliam, sup- posed to have been stolen, a dark iron- grey mare Pony, rising three years old, 12 hands high, long tail, and has no shoes on. Information to be given to Mr. Thomas Eeles, Superintendent, Dorset Constabulary, Wareham.— Low- street, December 11. Supposed to have been stolen, from Batchworth, in the parish of Rickmansworth, on the night of the 6th, or early on the morning of the 7th instant, a light grey Mare, with dark spots, 15 hands high, the property of Thomas Wyatt. Infor- mation to be given to Mr. Superintendent Hilsden, Police Station, Watford, Herts.— Bow- street, December 11. Supposed to have been stolen from a meadow at Hartley- row, Hants, on the night of the 4th instant, a bay mare Pony, 6 years old, about 13 hands high, w; hite blaze down face, white hair on top of tail, and has a small saddle mark. Information to be given to Mr. W. Howard, Superintendent Hants Con- stabulary, Aldershot.— Bow- street, December 9. Found at Elvetham, Hants, and supposed to have been stolen, a bay Mare, aged, about 15 hands high, white blaze down face, and near hind foot white. Information to be given to Mr. W. Howard, Superintendent, Hants Constabulary, Aldershot.— Bow- street, December 9. Found, near Wellington, on the 5th instant ( supposed to have been stolen, four ewe Sheep of the Shropshire Down breed, recently marked with blue on the back. Information to be given to Mr. Richardson, Deputy Chief Constable, County Constabulary, Wellington, Salop.— Bow- street, Dec. 9. The red roan cob Horse advertised in the Police Gazette of the 9th ultimo as stolen from Wysall, Notts, has been reco- vered. The man JOHN A. B. KIRKBY, late of Cambridge- shire is still at large, he is 60 years of age, about 5 feet 11 ins. high, grey hair, large whiskers nearly white extending round the chin ; formerly travelled with an entire horse ; has a faded respectable appearance, the little finger of one hand ( supposed the left) contracted ; dressed in a dark cloth coat, grey vest and trousers, or small check, black hat worn a little back, frequently carries a stick; he is well- known in Staffordshire, Cheshire, Hertfordshire, and about Shrewsbury; served 12 months in Cambridgeshire for horse stealing ; frequents races, and repre- sents himself as a farmer, stops at public- houses for several days, and leaves without paying : is a great smoker and card player, and was last heard of at Birmingham. Information to be given to Mr. Palethorpe, Superintendent, County Police Station, Nottingham, who holds a warrant for his apprehension. — Bow- street, December 9. ; LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT ® . KINNER, of No. 274, Bethnal- green- road, N. E., baker and corn dealer : he is 80 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, fresh complexion, large nose, small eyes, wears a brown wig, stoops when walking ; dressed in a dark brown cloth suit, low shoes, and short leggings. He took a shop at Wolverton Station, and stated that he was going to open it for the sale of bread and flour, on the 5th instant, when he absconded, steal- ing half a dozen Windsor Chairs, and a deal Table, the property of Mr. Charles Avelin, builder, Wolverton. Two guineas re- ward will be paid to whoever will give such information as may lead to his apprehension and conviction, on application to Inspector Royle, Stony Stratford, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street December 14. Absconded on the 8th instant, from 3, Church- road West, De Beauvoir Town, Kingsland, stealing a gold Guard Chain, snake pattern ; a light silk Skirt; a pair of Drawers ; a Petti- coat ; a Chemise ; a pair of Stockings ; a black cloth Jacket; and a pair of kid Gloves,— a female, 17 years of age, short and thin, fair complexion, red hair, pockpitted ; dressed in the stolen clothes.— Metropolitan Police, N Division, December 14. Stolen from a house at Potter's Bar, on the 8th instant, a black and white check woollen Shawl; a pair of woollen Trousers and Vest; a pair of men's elastic side Boots; two plain gold Rings ; one gold ditto, set with pearls and emeralds,— by a female, 40 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, slight, fair com- plexion, thin features; dressed in drab dress trimmed with irown cloth round the bottom, coloured shawl, fancy bonnet trimmed- fl'ith brown ribbon.— Metropolitan Police, S Division, December 14. Description of JULUS WHITCOSKEY, late a glazier, ^ siding in Dymock- street, Birmingham, charged with stealing £ 30 4s. 6d., on the 7th instant, the property of Simons Whitcoskey, his father : he is about 21 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, dark hair, cross eyed, no whiskers, and slovenly walk ; dressed in a dark coat, grey tweed trousers, and billy- cock hat. £ 5 reward will be given for his apprehension. In- formation to be given at Detective Department, Birmingham, where a warrant lays for hisapprehension.— Bow- street, Dec. 11. inscription of a man, who has absconded, stealing a brass Mortar ( which has since been recovered), from the King's Ferry House, in the parish of Minster, Sheppy, on the 5th instant : about 40 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, dari complexion, thin face, few whiskers; dressed in black billyqock hat, cord waistcoat, with fustian back and sleeves, light trousers, and heavy lace- up boots: Had the appearance of a navvy. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Green, Kent Constabulary, Sittingbourne; or to Sergeant Thomas Noakes, Sheerness, Kent.— Bow- street, December 11. Stolen, from Felton Butler, in the parish of Great Ness, Salop, between 4 and 5 p. m. on the 14tli instant : a green and red flowered Carpet Bag, containing a blue neck Scarf with j white spots, a red Scarf with black spots, two white Collars, a Knife, a Soup Ladle, two Sauce ditto, all silver, marked with j pair of men's white woollen Socks, a black cloth Cap, two coronet, in centre of which. is an eagle, round which is a ring, ; white pocket Handkerchiefs, 1 lb. of Sugar, a cotton check with the motto ' Tria juncta in uno;' two Table Spoons, Shirt, a silver Pin with screen stone, a glass Bottle, and a two Egg ditto ( marked ' H.'), five S'ave- alls, and a Toast Rack,/ Reynolds' Newspaper,' the property of John Leader, of all plated. £ 25 reward will be paid upon the; conviction of the Kinnerley, blacksmith. Travels Presteign, Radnorshire,— Bow- street, December 7, Stolen, from a shop in the borough of Oldham, at 5.30 p. m. on the 1st instant, by means of breaking a square of glass, a gold detached lever Watch, jewelled in thirteen holes, gold dial, picture of Constantinople on the dial, and a hand bell engraved on the back ; also a gold English lever Watch, centre seconds, two squares on the inside case, cream coloured dial, maker J. H. Hayes, Oldham. Information to be given to Mr. James Wetherell, Chief Constable, Oldham, Lancashire, — Bow- street, December 7. Between llxp. m. on th** tth and the dwellia^ taStf^ N Description of a man, named ELLIS, a women's boot maker, who has absconded from Chichester, and for whose ap- prehension a warrant has been issued, charged with stealing a quantity of women's and girls' bottom Stuff, intrusted to him by Mr. Sedley T. Thorpe, his employer, to make up into boots: he is about 28 years of age, about 5 feet 7 inches high, dark complexion, dark hair, no whiskers, small dark moustache, very full chest, and has a very good address ; dressed in frock coat and chummy hat. Information to be given to Mr. C. Everitt, Superintendent of Police, Chichester.— Bow- street, December 11.
