Scottish Police. The person whose description follows is in custody at Dumfries, on several barges of theft by Housebreak- ing, and there is every reason to believe thBt he is an old offender: — Francis Hogan or Hoban, a labourer, belongs to co. Armagh ^— 29 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, stout made, o\" 1 face, hollow forehead, flat nose, high cheek boce*, hair incling to red, red whiskers; ill- looking. Dress— A gray cloth co: it, drab coloured moleskin trowsers, dirty, gray cloth cap, with small peak, old rax vie boots, much worn. Also wanted at Dumfries, the person whose descrip- tion is subjoined. He was associated with Hogan or Hoban in the thefts. Peter Jones, belongs to county Sligo, a labourer:— 30 to 35 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, ordi- nary make ; rather like a foreigner; thin face, very dark complexion, black hair and eyebrows, black whiskers, on chlo only ; ill looking. Dress— A dark grey shoot- ing coat, daik gray clotb vest, moleskin trowsers, much worn and dirly, dirty cloth cap, with small peak, sup- pofed reddish scarf, strong boots, rig and- fur stockings. Police officers and others are requested to communi- cate with the Chief constable of Dumfries- shire, Dum- fries, as to whether Hogan or Hoban be known, and what convictions there exist against him ; and also to search for and apprebrti Jones if found. » £• « « « » i » » fro- quenter of low lodging houses. DESCRIPTION of Michael Crookshank and James Crookshank, natives of Aghaweenagh, county Cavan, who stand charged with having, on the 6th December, 1863, in the barony of Lower Loughtee, parish of Drumlane, been two of an armed party of four men who forcibly entered the house of Edward Keating, of Kilnaglare, and robbed him of about £(> in cash:— 1. 25 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, stout make, sallow complexion, large face, browif eyes, large nose, black hair; wore a black cap, brown coat, brown trowsers, corduroy vest; left eye a great deal smaller than right. 2. 23 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, slender make, black complexion, long face, gray eyes, long nose, fair bair; wore a black cup, brown coat, corduroy trowsers, tweed vest. Kildare. ~~ DESCRIPTION of John Maxwell ( now in custody) who states he is a native cf Sherbrook, Canada East, North America, and who stands charged with having, on the 13th day of November, 1863, at Naas, in the barony of North Naas, parish of Naas, obtained money undor false pretence, lie is also charged with forgery, for which offences he was arrested, and is at present in Naas Gaol; ho is also suspectcd of having obtained money under false pretence in different parts of England and Ireland:— 46 years of age, .5 feet 9 inches high, stout make, sallow complexion, dark eyes, regular nose, long black bair, large black whiskers and mustache; wore u dark brown frock coat, velvet collar, dark trowi- ers, dark vest, a broad leafed solf felt hat. DESCRIPTION of Patrick Ryan, native of Limerick, who stands charged with having, on the 3rd instant, in the barony of Limerick City, parish of St. Michael's, effected his escape while being conveyed from the county of Limerick gaol to the Glencree Reformatory 5 THE POLICE GAZETTE, School, under sentence of five years' confinement for larceny :— 13 years of age, 4 feet inches high, stout make, sallow complexion, round / ace, dark brown eyes, short nose, dark brown hair; wore a grey frieze jacket, black sleeves; grey frieze trowsers, grey vest, and cap. WHEREAS information has reached the Government that Patrick Ross and James Ross, charged with tha murder of John Corrigan, and with firing at and wounding his wife, Mary Corrigan, near Malkagh, in the barony of Longford, and county of Longford, on the 20th April, 1862, and who have not as yet been arrested, have been concealed, and afle harboured, received, and concealed, and assisted and aided in several parts of the country since the said murder: Now, His Excellency the Lord Lieutenant is pleased to offer a reward of £ 100 to any person or person3 who shall, within six months from the date hereof, give such information as shall lead to the arrest of any one whomsoever who has, since the said murder, knowingly harboured, or received, or con- cealed, or assisted or aided in any way whatever in thoir escape from arrest, the said Patrick Ross and James Ross. By His Excellency's command, THOS. A. LARCOM. The above reward will be paid, on conviction, fcy the Resident Magistrate at Longford. DESCRIPTION of said Pat Ross and James Ross:— Patrick, 35 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, stout mako, sallow complexion, thin face, gray eyes, sharp noso, cut on his lip, brown hair; wore a gray frieze coat, cord trowsers, dark vest; wore a jim crow hat. Dublin, who has been com mitted to gaol, charged with threatening the life of the Hon. L. K. Harman, J. P.:— 36 years of ago, 5 feot 8 inches high, stout make, sallow com- plexion, round face, gray ejes, regular nose, dark brown hair; wore a long old brown frock coat, cord trowsers, sleeved vest; bald on the crown of the head ; slightly pockpitted ; woars a pair of lacod boots. He is a bold daring sort of man, who appears to be quite reckless of what he say^ i ; he is committed to Longford Gaol for one montb. WHEREAS it has been represented to the Lord Lieutenant, that on the morning of the 4tli instant, John Andrew Jackson, Esq., J. P., was murdered in his own Demesne, at Mount Pleasant, in the baro « y of Upper Ormond, and county of Tipperary, by some person or persons at present unknown. ^ His Excellency, for the better apprehending and bringing to justice the perpetrators of this murder, is pleased hereby to offer a reward of £ 100 to any person or persons who shall, within six months from the date hereof, give such information as shall lead to the arrest of the person or persons who com- mitted the same. By His Excellency's command, THOS. A. LARCOM. The above reward will be paid by John Fleming, Esq., the Resident Magistrate at Nenagh, to those who may become entitled to it under the conditions of this Proclamation. DUBLIN CASTLE, September 8, 1863. WHEREAS Michael Hayes, who is charged with having murdered Mr. John Waller Braddell, on the 80th of July, 1862, in the town of Tipperary, has hitherto evaded arrest. His Excellency the Lord Lieutenant is pleased hereby to offer a reward of £ 300 to any person or persons who shall, within six months from the date hereof, give such information as shall lead to the arrest of the said Michael Hayes. And His Excellency is further pleased hereby to offer a reward of £ 100 to any person or persons who shall, within six months from the date hereof, give such information as shall lead to the arrest of any one whomsoever who has, since the said murder, knowingly harboured or received, or concealed, or assisted, or aided in any way whatsoever, the said Michael Hayes in his escape from arrest. By His Excellency's command, THOS. A. LARCOM. The above rewards will be paid by any Resident Magistrate or Officer of the Constabulary. DESCRIPTION of said Michael Hayes:— 60 years of age, 6 feet high, stout make, dark sallow complexion, large heavy face, dark eyes, rather long nose, black hair, a little gray; wore a black frieze body coat, knee breeches, black stockings, Caroline hat; stooped shoulders, and a heavy slovenly gait when walking; has a down look; very heavy eyebrows, somewhat gray ; bald on the crown of tbe head, with a few stray hairs on it; several of his front teeth out; high cheek bones and sunken jaws ; end altogether a remarkable and an ill- looking man. He may probably assume a disguise, such as a wig, moustache, false teeth, and black coat, & e. Cappamore, 3rd August, 1862. ( B. 10071— 10283.) DESCRIPTION of Margaret Mason, native of Clona- kenny, who stands charged with havitig, on the 6th instant, in the barony Ikerrin, parish of Bourney, ab- sconded from the residence of Richard Mason, esq., and stolen therefrom a sum of money ( amount at pre- sent unkown), and a travelling bag, the property of Mr. Mason:— 19 years of ago, slender make, pal^ com- plexion, daik hair; delicate appearance. DESCRIPTION of James Colvin, native of Derryhale, county Armagh, who stands charged with having, on the night of the 26th November, 1863, in the barony of Middle Dungannon, parish of Tullyniskin, at Far- lough, stolen two pieces of linen from off the bleach green of Mr. Richard Pike, his property. A portion of said linen was subsequently disposed of by accused to different parties, who will be able to identify him :— 32 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, slender make, fair complexion, long thin face, long nose, dark brown hair, with sandy whiskers, which extends under his chin j wore a dark coat, dark trifcvsors; wants two fingers on the right hand, the little one and one next to it. Is a smart intelligent looking man, and wears a silver watch. It is quite possible he may assume an- other name. Supposed tie has friends living near Portadown, county armagh, where he may bo found. Waterford DESCRIPTION of James M'Donnell, native of Ferry-* bank, who stands charged with having, on tbe 11th December, 1863, at Newrath, in the barony of Kilcul- liheen, parish of Kilculliheen, assaulted John Shaw by striking him on the head with€ stone, from the effects of which his life is in danger:— 21 years of age, 5 feet ' 7 inches high, medium floake, fair complexion, grey eyes, thick nose, fair hair; wore a cap, dark pilot coat, corduroy or light tweed trowsers, light vest; may be wearing a suit of sailors' clothes, which he baff; rather slovenly gait, and a little stooped, heavy wltite eye- brows, forehead wrinkles much when he opens his eyes wide; had been previously a sailor, and may endeavour to become one now. WHEREAS it has been represented to the Lord Lieutenant, that at the hour of 9 o'clock, on the night of the 22nd ultimo, Patrick Connor was way- laid and murdered on the public road at Carrick, in the barony of Fartullagh, and county of Westmeath, by a party of persons at present unknown. His Excellency, for the better apprehending and bringing to justice the perpetrators of this murder, is pleased hereby to offer a reward of £ 100 to any per- son or persons who shall, within six months from the date hereof, give such information as shall lead to the arrest of the person or persons who com- mitted the same. And His Excellency is also pleased to offer a free pardon to any person concerned in this outrage, other than the person or persons who actually committed the murder, in case of his giving such evidence as will lead to the conviction of the persons concerned with him in the crime.
