As the Law ( 48 Geo. 3, c. 140, s. 44,) only permits the insertion of Notices respecting Felonies, no other description of Notice can be inserted in the Hue- and- Cry. DUBLIN, TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 29, 1863. Scottish Police. DRSCRIPTION ot articles stolen, by means of house- breaking, from the premises of Mr. William Anderson, wholesale grocer, Mansionhouse- lane, Greenock, be- tween the night of Saturday, the J! Hb, and morning of Monday, the 21st September current, viz.:— 1. A dark blue Venetian walking or morning coat, with 5 pockets, 2 inside breast, 1 outside left breast, and 2 large pockets set in cloth instead of lining ioside of skirt; black cloth buttons; no buttons on sleeves ; black twilled serge lining; not much worn; a small piece of chamois leather in one of ttie pockets 2. A steel- grey Oxonian jacket or sbort office coat, with narrow white stripe; 3 black cloth buttons; a button on each sleeve ; an outside pocket on each side with flaps, and 1 outside pocket on left side ot breast; the side pockets had given way ; much worn. 3. A dark grey cloth office coat, with white stripe through it, and with only 1 button at neck ; i inside pocket on leftside of breast; 2 outside side pockets; bad been torn fiom one ot the side pockets to skirt, and sewed up again ; had a bole in the lining of the pocket on the left side ; dark lining ; not much worn. 4. A daik grey Oxonian jacket or office coat, for a youth of 16 years, with 4 grey born buttons ; 2 pockets outside skirt, witliout flaps, i inside h/ east on right side, and 1 outside on left side; bound with black braid; the band for suspending was off; not much worn. 5. An alpaca umbrella, with a turned dark wooden handle, and a small- piece of mother of pearl on top of handle; not much worn; wanting the ring tor fast- ening at the end ot the India rubber strap tor tbe pur- pose. 6. A large white tweeled cotton ( shopman's) apron, with cotton tape strings attached about 4 inches from sides. 7. A three- feet rule, common. 8. Four bottles port, sealed with black wax, " Port," " William Kelly." 9. One pint bottle sherry. 10. About 40 lbs. black tea. 11. One roll common twist tobacco, from 8 to 10 ^ lbs in weight. 12. From 10s. to 15s. in silver money. Ditto, in copper money, including a good many farthing- i. A base half- crown piece of the reign of George III., 1819. 13. Five shillings worth of penny postage stamps, and 10s. worth of receipt stamps. 14. Two pilot cloth vests, and » pair pilot cloth trowsers. 15. A Dunlop cheese and a smoked ham. The premises wete entered by a back window in an enclosed court. A pane of glass had first been broken, which enabled the thieves to undo the snib. The lower sash was then raised, and the middle portion of strong iron cased shutters was forced back, and an instrument inserted to keep it sufficiently open to allow a hand to get in to undo the fastenings. In the interior a strong stone safe, with iron door, was broken open by the application of a cold chisel to the stono opposite tho lock bolt, which had been pressed back. A lock- fast desk was forced up, as also a lock- fast chest. No clue has been got to the thieves. It is earnestly requested that police officers should use every possible endeavour lo trace or recover the stolen property, or any portion thereof; and that any information regarding the tbieves or property be sent to the Superintendent of Police, Greenock. Police Chambers, Greenock, 24th September, 1863. DESCRIPTION of James Christie, wanted in Edin- burgh, on a charge of child- stealing. He is about 28 or 30 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches in height, very dark and thin featured, black hair and whiskers; said to bo a native ot England ; wants some ot his front teeth; has a sore leg. Dressed in a long tailed black coat, light coloured vest, and black hat, and Welling- ton boots, cut short. He goes about preaching, and carries a book under his arm. Description of Child. Patrick Branegan, Bge 2 years and 9 months, full face, white haired, dark brown eyes; has a scar on Lis throat from a burn. Dressed in a dark brown frock, Rob Roy tartan tippet, small cbeck, lacing boots, worn at the toes, and purpled coloured stockings. Police officers and others are requestod to make particular search for the above described person and child, and if he is apprehended, or any trace of them found, to communicate with Mr. Dymock, Procurator- liscal, City Chambers, Edinburgh. DESCRIPTION of tbe under- mentioned convict, whose ticket of licence has been revoked:— Margaret Donnelly, alias Devlin, alias O'Hara, 23 years of age, 5 feet f inches high, stout make, rather light sandy hair, light eyebrows, blue eyes, long large nose, medium size mouth, long v'sage, and fresh complexion ; and is a weaver by trade. Born at Magherafelt, county Down, at which place her friends reside. Was convicted at Londonderry, of larceny, at the Spring Assizes, held on the 27th March, 1860, and sentenced to four years' penal servitude. Information to Superintendent Ryan, No. 3, Ex- change- court, Dublin, who holds a warrant for her arrest. 25th September, 1863. ( R. 7458.) DESCRIPTION of the under- mentioned convicts, whose tickets of licence have been revoked:— Henry Baldwin, 24 years of age, 5 feet 8J inches high, slight make, light brown hnir, brownish gray eyes, brown eyebrows, regular nose and mouth, round visage, fresh complexion ; and is a labourer. Born at Rathkeale, county Limerick, and has friends residing in Limerick. Was convicted at Mallow, county Cork, of robbery from the person, at the April Sessious, held on the 10th of April, 1860, and sentenced to four years' penal servitude. Alexander M'Cullagh, 24 years of age, 5 feet 10 % inches high, stout make, dark brown hair, light brown eyebrows, blue eyes, regular nose and moutb, oval visage, fresh complexion ; a nailer by trade, and was a soldier in 69th Regiment. Born at Enniscorlhy, county Wextord, at which place his friends reside. Was convicted at Wexford, ot larceny, at the Hilary Sessions, held on the 5th January, 1860, and sentenced to four years' penal servitude. Information lo Superintendent Ryan, 3, Exchange- court, Dublin, who holds warrants for their arrest. 23rd Sept., 1863. DESCRIPTION of the undermentioned, who, cn the night ot 15th August, 1863, stole a £ 100 note and a £ 50 note, of the bank of Ireland, from tbe person of a man, who was under the influence of drink, in this city :— Rose Byrne, about 35 years of age, low size, dark brown hair, mark of an old cut on forehead, large ordinary mouth, bad, discoloured teeth, hard features, speaks a strong northern accent, and is a prostitute. It is supposed that she has gone to Waterford or Kil- kenny, and that she has the greater portion of tbe money still in her possession. Information to Superin- tendent Ry an, No. 3, Exchange Court, Dublin, who holds a warrant for her arrest. 9th September, 1863. ( R. 7355.) DESCRIPTION of the undermentioned convict, whose ticket ot licence has been revoked:— Michael Delany, 30 years of age, 5 feet 5^ inches high, stout make, brown hair and eyebrows, hazel eyes, regular nose and moutb, oval visage, and tresh freckled complexion, Born at North King- street, Dublin, and his wife resides in Carrick on- Suir, cr unty Tipperary. Was convicted at Ballioasloe, county Galway, of laceny from the per- son, at the Michaelmas Session-, held on tho 19th October, 1860, and sentenced to three years' penal servitude. Information to Superintendent Ryan, No. 3, Exchange- court, Dublin, who holds a warrant for his arrest. 12th September, 1863. CONSTABULARY. Antrim. DESCRIPTION of Robert Johnson, native of Randals- town, who stands charged with having, on the 18th September, 1863, in the barony of Upper Toome, parish ot Drumaul, absconded with tbe sum of £ 18, the property of William Salthouse, which was intrusted to him to deliver to Mr. John Bryson, near Maghera- felt, county ot Londonderry, viz.:— A £ 10 note, a £ 5 note of the Bank ot England, and tbreo £ 1 notes : 30 yeais of age, 5 feet 9 inuhes high, slender make, dark complexion, long pale face, dark crooked eyes, regular nose, dark hair; wore a black cloth lounge coat, dark cloth trowsers, dark cloth vest; has a swag gering gait when walking; appears to be shortsighted, and has a delect in ti e left eye. R., who stands charged with having, on the 21st day of September instant, in the barony of West Carbery, E. D., parish of Abbeystrowry, deserted her infant:— 25 years of age, 4 feet 10 iucbes high, slight make, fresh complexion, small face, regular nose, short dark brown hair, slightly pockpitted, low forehead; wore a net on head, a purple stuff1 dress, a short black cloth mantle, with a small cape, a steel bead collar. WHEREAS information has reached the Government that Patrick Ross and James Ross, charged with the murder of John Corrigan, and with firing at and wounding his wife, Mary Corrigan, near Malkagh, in the barony of Longford, and county of Longford, on the 20th April, 1862, and who have not as yet been arrested, have been concealed, and are harboured, receiv^ l^ fnd concealed, and assisted and aided in several parts of the country since the said murder: Now, Hjs Excellency the Lord Lieutenant is pleased to < Jfer a reward of £ 100 to any person or persons who shall, within six months from the date hereof, give such information as shall lead to the arrest of any one whomsoever who has, since the said murder, knowingly harboured, or received, or con- cealed, or assisted or aided in any way whatever in their escape from arrest, the said Patrick Ross and James Ross. By His Excellency's command, THOS. A. LABOOM. The above reward will be paid, on conviction, by the Resident Magistrate at Longford. WHEREAS it has been represented to the Lord Lieutenant, that on the morning of the 4th instant, John Andrew Jackson Esq., J. P., was murdered in his own Demesne, at Mount Pleasant, in the barony of Upper Ormond, and county of Tipperary, by some person or persons at present unknown. His Excellency, for the better apprehending and bringing to justice the perpetrators of this murder, is pleased hereby to offer a reward of £ 100 to any person or persons who shall, within six months from the date hereof, give such information as shall lead to the arrest of the person or persons who com- mitted the same. By His Excellency's command, THOS. A. LARCOM. The above reward will be paid by John Fleming, Esq., the Resident Magistrate at Nenagh, to those who may become entitled to it under the conditions of this Proclamation. DUBLIN CASTLE, September 8, 1863. WHEREAS Michael Hayes, who is charged with having murdered Mr. John Waller Braddell, on tho 30th of July, 1862, in the town of Tipperary, has hitherto evaded arrest. His Excellency the Lord Lieutenant is pleased hereby to offer a reward of £ 300 to any person or persons, who shall, within six months from the date hereof, give such information as shall lead to tho arrest of the said Michael Hayes. And His Excellency is further pleased hereby to offer a reward of £ 100 to any person or persons who shall, within six months from the date hereof, give such information as shall lead to the arrest of any one whomsoever who has, since the said murder, knowingly harboured or received, or concealed, or assisted, or aided in any way whatsoever, the said Michael' Hayes in his escape from arrest. By His Excellency's command, THOS. A. LARCOM. The above rewards will be paid by any Resident Magistrate or Officer of the Constabulary. DESCRIPTION of said Michael Hayes:— 1 60 years of age, 6 feet high, stout make, dark sallow complexion,, large heavy face, dark eyes, rather long nose, black, a little gray hair; wore a black frieze body coat, knee breeches, black stockings, Caroline hat; stooped shoulders, and a heavy slovenly gait when walking; has a down look; very heavy eyebrows, somewhat gray ; bald on the crown of the head, with a few stray hairs on it; several of his front teeth oat; high cheek bones and sunken jaws; and altogether a remarkable and an ill- looking man. He may probably assume a disguise, such as a wig, moustache, falso teeth, and black coat, & c. Cappamore, 3rd August, 1802. ( B. 10071— 10283.) DESCRIPTION of two men, names unknown,' who stand charged with having, on the night of 20th Sept., 1863, in tho barony of Lower Talbotstown, parish of Hollywood, forcibly entered the cabin of Mary Mis- sett, at said place, assaulted her and Eliza Casey, and robbed the former of the sum of £ 4 sterling in copper: 1. 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, stout mak<$ dark complexion, dark hair; wore an old ba^- Scan vest; had whiskers. 2. 22 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, stout make, sandy complexion, fair hair. THE POLICE GAZETTE, OR HUE- AND- CRY, SEPTEMBER 29, 1863. % Deserters from Her Majesty's Service, [ Ireland,] On and after this date ( Dec. 11, 1857), until further notice, the Reward given by the War Office for the Apprehension of a Deserter will be TWENTY SHILLINGS instead of TEN SHILLINGS; the object being to prevent the crime of Desertion, and to hold out a greater inducement for the recovery of Deserters to Her Majesty's Service.
