Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Utters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not b. e made. W.," as they cannot be published without liis authority. INFORMATIONS Watch ( since recovered) from the person of Albert Richardson. Smith is about 23 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, fair complexion, Roman nose, dark brown hair, very little whiskers, boil marks on the back of neck ; dressed in fustian trousers, a white slop, and cloth cap, or in a suit of black cloth, a native of Shipbourne, Kent, information to be given to Mr. Hollo- way, Superintendent, Steyning, Sussex, or to Sergeant Tuden, Shoreham, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- st. September 10. Stolen from the person of a lady in the city of Durham, on the 10th instant, a double- bottomed gold lever Watch, No. 47040, maker's name Porthouse, London, chased bizzles and dial, engraved back, jewelled in four holes, Rugby pallets. Information to be given Mr. William Beard, Superintendent of Police, Durham.— Bow- street, September 14. MOUSE BREAKING, the burglary at the house of MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. On the 27th ultimo, the body of a newly- born male child was found in a field at Forestfach, near Swansea, and an inquest held before Edward Strick, Esq., coroner, and a verdict of Wilful Murder returned against some person or persons unknown. A woman of the following description is suspected: about- 30 to 36 years of age, 5 feet 1 or 2 inches high, sallow complexion, dark auburn hair ; dressed in linsey- wolsey gown, and dirty white straw bonnet, trimmed with dirty blue ribbon. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent W. Parsons, County Constabulary Office, Neath, Glamorganshire.— Bow- street,, September 16. Description of WILLIAM HARPER, charged with night poaching and with unlawfully cutting and wounding William Bowe, gamekeeper to Lord Feversbam, at the parish of Helmsley, Yorkshire, on the night of the 9th instant: about 40 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, fresh complexion, sandy hair and whiskers; generally dressed in velvet or fustian shooting jacket, velvet vest, cord trousers, and dark cap : is a native of Nawton, near Kirkby Moorside, and is well- known at Malton and Thirsk as a pig jobber. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Jonas Pickering, or to Inspector Fenwick, Kirby Moorside, North Riding of Yorkshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, September 14, AND WILFUL BURNING. a wheat stack was dis- ARSON On the night of the 14th instant, covered to be on fire, and burnt to the ground, at Sight's Farm, Acklam, Yorkshire, the property of Mr. John Clark, farmer, containing about 50 quarters. The stack is supposed to have been wilfully set on fire. Information to be given to Mr. B. Harper, Superintendent, East Riding Constabulary, Norton.— Bow- street, September 18. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. THOMAS DODD, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 12th December last, charged with assault and highway robbery at Little Wenlock, has been apprehended at Wheaton Aston, and remanded. In his possession was found a silver verge Hunting Watch, maker Thomas Glase, Bridgnorth, No. 2024, with steel chain, steel key, and brass key attached, which is supposed to have been stolen. His brother, WILLIAM DODD, is still at large, as advertised in the Police Gazette of the 9th instant. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Richardson, Wellington, Salop— Bow- street, September 18. Stolen from the person of Edward Place, while on the highway between Northallerton and Leeming- Bare, in the North Riding of Yorkshire, on the night of the 16th instant, a jean Purse, containing a Sovereign, two Half- sovereigns, and a Key ; the purse has two compartments, and a piece of tape for the purpose of fastening the same. By a man and womaD, of whom no description can be given, except that the man was rather stout, and the woman of low stature. Information to be given to Inspector T. Alderson, Bedale ; or to Mr. Super- intendent Simpson, Leyburn, North Riding of Yorkshire.— Bow- street, September 18. Stolen from the person of James Inman, of Gildersome- street, Bradford, collier, about 11 p. m. on the 12th instant, while drunk in a public- house at Adwalton Moor, near Brad ford, Yorkshire, a small silver horizontal Watch, engine- turned case, capped, and ( supposed) jewelled in two holes, maker William Haddock, Bath, No. 2139, the regulator works outside of the cap, had a small silver Guard, much worn, attached. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Copeland, West Riding Constabulary, Bradford.— Bow- street, September 16. Absconded from Lancing, Sussex, on the 13th instant, JOHN SMITH, alias MARCH, charged with stealing a silver BURGLARY AND Further particulars of Isabella Chester, of Halstead, Leicestershire, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 14th instant: the man suspected did not commit the offence ; the Candlesticks are not silver but plated, the silver Nutmeg Box containing a Grater, has a crest— three arrows and a serpent entwined ; the silver inkstand is about 8 inches long, contains two Ink Bottles, and has a Candlestick in the centre ; the silver Tray, and gold Moulding from a portrait are also missing. Information to be given to Inspector Rowlett, East Norton, Leicestershire.— Bow- street, September 18. Between 1 and 2 a. m. on the 15th instant, a dwelling- house at Kirkby, near Lowestoft, was burglariously entered, by pulling down the upper sash of the kitchen window, which had been left unfastened, and the following articles stolen therefrom, viz. : three silver Table Spoons, one marked with a crest, a lion's head rampant, one with ' S. | 1* T. | H.', and one with ' S. | 6* T. | H.'; an old- fashioned silver Fork, marked with cre't, a stork; two silver Sauce Ladles; two silver Desseit Spoons ; two silver Salt Spoons ( all marked with crest, a lion's head rampant) ; two silver Tea Spoons ; a silver Pickle Fork ; two silver Tea Spoons ; and a silver Salt Spoon, maiked ' J. S. M.' ; also four Table Spoons, six Dessert ditto, seven Dessert Forks, six Table ditto, one palt Spo^ n, and sixteen Tea ditto, all electro- plated and fiddle- handle pattern. Infor- mation to be given to the Police at Lowestoft, East Suffolk.— Bow- street, September 18. Stolen from a dwelling- house at Stretford, between 11pm. on the 13th and and 6 a. m. on the 14th instant, a small skele- ton eight- day French Time- piece, 6 or 7 inches high and 4 or 5 inches wide, dark rosewood or ebony case, round white dial, and winds up at the back ; and a Table Cover, crimson and black, oak- leaf pattern. Entrance effected by the parlour window. The dwelling- house of Mr. Foster, farmer, Levenshulme, was entered between 10 p. m. on the 14th and 5 30 a. m. on the 15th instant, bj' the pantry window, which was left unfastened, and the following property stolen: au old- fashioned silver Cream Jug, stands on four small knobs, dented under the spout ; a glass Mustard Pot with silver Top ; three silver Tops of bottles of cruet stand, with one small silver Spoon, lined with gold, attached to one of the tops ; an old- fashioned silver Spoon, marked ' M. W.'; one Walking Cane, with white horn handle and silver hoop ; one brown twilled silk Umbrella, the cover mended near one of the whalebones; and a dark blue double- breasted cloth Overcoat, lined with black alpaca, black covered buttons, u pocket in each skirt, and a small ticket pocket ou right side. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Chadwick, Constabulary Office, Old Trafford, near Manchester.— Bow- street, September 18. Between the hours of 1 and 9 p. m. on the 13th instant, the dwelling- house and shop of Mr. William Newsome, draper,. Mirfield, WHS broken and entered, and the following property stolen therefrom, viz. : £ 150 in Gold and Silver ; seven or eight pieces of black glace Silk, each piece about 80 yards in length, some pieces 26 inches wide, and others 22 inches ; seven or eight dozen pairs of black kid Gloves ; about two dozen rolls of silk Ribbon, blue, brown, and scarlet colours ; 40 yards of black Alpaca; and a wash- leather Purse with steel clasp. A reward of £ 5 will be given for information that will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders, and recovery of the property. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Martin, West Riding Constabulary, Dewsbury, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, September 16. During the night of the 12th inst., the house of Mr. Robert Wall, Cockyard Farm, in the parish of Abbeydore, was bur- glariously entered, and the following property stolen therefrom, viz.: a brown cloth Jacket, with two pockets in skirts with flaps, and one inside of left side, with black pearl buttons; a dark Vest, with red and blue stripes, double- breasted, with blue flowers on buttons ; a pair of dark- coloured Trousers, mixed with red, with small stripe running down the leg; a red and white Necktie, fringe at side ; a pair of lace- up Boots, with tips on heels and square nails on the toes ; a large pair- case silver Watch, No. 42677 double, German Chain, 3d. Piece, and a Seal, with ' Success to Agriculture' engraved on it, attached, maker's name George Price, Hereford; the property of Thomas Spencer. Also a dark brown Vest, boy's size, dark pearl or bone buttons, with two pockets, the property of Wm. Floyd. Suspicion is attached to a man of the following description : 45 or 60 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, swarthy com- plexion, is bald, and has lost one eye, supposed to be the left. Information to be given to the Chief Constable, Shire Hall, Hereford ; or to Mr, Wm. Blunsden, Superintendent of Police, Herefordshire Constabulary, Abbeydors,— Bow- street Sept. 16. On the night of the 11th or morning, of the 12th instant, the counting house of Mr. D. W. Fox, Upper Croft Mill, situate in Bowling Back- lane, Bradford, was broken and entered and stolen therefrom an iron Safe, containing the Books of the firm, two £ 20 Bank of England Notes, about £ 59 in gold, and several Cheques and Banker's Drafts for various amounts, the payment of which has been stopped. Any person or persons giving such information as shall lead to the recovery of the books shall receive £ 20 reward ; and a further reward of £ 30 for any information which will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the thief or thieves, on application to Mr. F. W. Grauhan, Chief Constable, PoliceOffice, Bradford.— Bow- street, September 16. Between 8 a. m. and 6 p. m. on the 14th instant the cottage of James Johnson, of Westbury, Bucks, was broken and entered, and the following property stolen : a black cloth Coat with two pockets behind ; a blue and black plaid Jacket with two pockets in the sides, black buttons with bright metal rims ; a grey cloth Waistcoat; a grey Scarf Shawl; a plaid silk Handkerchief; and a calico Shirt. Supposed by a man, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high ; dressed in black cloth jacket, dirty cord trousers, and'' cap. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Symington, Steeple Claydon; or to Sergeant Arthur Clear, Maids Moreton, Bucks.— Bow- street, September 16. On the 9th instant the house of Owen Williams, of Pen- y- waen, Llandrillo- yn- Rhos, was broken and entered, and the following property stolen therefrom : a black cloth Overcoat; a black cloth Shooting Coat; a black cloth Vest; a pair of black cloth Trousers; five silk Neckerchiefs; a silver verge Watch, maker John Jones, Bethesta; a puce Scarf Shawl; a red ditto ; a black ditto, bordered with black ribbon ; a white ditto; and a black ditto with red flower in each corner. Supposed by a man and woman: the man has the appearance of a militiaman and has three dogs with him, and the woman sells knitted caps. Information to be given to Mr. John Shuhan, Police Office, Denbigh.— Bow- street, September 14. Btit veen the hours of .3 and 4 a. m. on the 10th instant, the dwelling- house of John Daggett, innkeeper, Hebden, in the West Riding of Yorkshire, was broken and entered, and the following property stolen therefrom, viz. : a pair of silver Sugar Tongs, marked ' J. G.' or ' G. J.'; an electro- plated Coffee Pot ;• an ivory- handled Pen Knife with two blades; a Box of Cigars; Is. 6d. in Silver; and 5s. in Copper. Two men, dressed in light round jackeis and caps, were seen in the house about the time above mentioned. Information to be given to given to Mr. Superintendens George Lottey, West Riding Constabulary, Skipton, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, Sep- ' 14. Between the 7th and 9th instant, the dwelling- house of Mr. Robert Ness, of Albion- terrace, South Shields, was broken and entered, and the following articles stolen therefrom, viz.: a silver- grey silk Dress, with three flounces ; a black figured lustring Dress, five rows of narrow velvet round the bottom ; a brown silk Dress, three deep flounces, sleeves trimmed with silk fringe ; a plain black satin Skirt; a grey striped Cloak ; a brown woollen ditto, with velvet collar; a black cloth Mantle, quilted with silk round the bottom ; a plum- coloured Mantle, bound with velvet of the same colour; a black mour- ning Mantle, embroidered ; a black silk velvet Jacket ; a dark blue Shawl, gay colours ; a black barege Shawl, with coloured border; a light coloured ditto, shell pattern; a large red flannel Wrapper ; a silver Pepper Caster Top, a Mustai- d ditto, a Sugar ditto, and a pair of gentleman's riding Boots, which the thief may be wearing, as a pair of strong blucher boots with large square- headed nails was left behind ; a small joiner's chisel and a small gimlet were found in the kitchen. Informa- tion to be given to Mr. Thomas Richardson, Chief Constable, South Shields.— Bow- street, September 14. On the night of the 11th instant, the house No. 19, Bute- street, Cardiff, was broken and entered, and the following articles stolen therefrom, the property of Mr. Roberts, jeweller : about forty Brooches, most of them plated ; a quantity of silk Guards; a quantity of silver and plited ditto; six gilt Alberts; about a dozen of plated Spoons; twenty sets ot Studs, most of them gold ; a German silver Watch ; and two or three dozen silver Rings. Also stolen, from the shop of Mr. G. Evans, draper, under the same roof, two silver Tea Spoons, marked ' M. R.'; four ditto, and one Dessert ditto, marked with a crest; one Mustard Spoon, marked ' M. R.'; a woollen Shirt; two or three dozen silk Handkerchiefs ; and a small Box. They also broke open a writing desk and three boxes. Also stolen, from the house . of Mr. Day, confectioner, No. 18, Bute- street, a white Bowler Hat, the property of Mr. G. Day, which the thieves left in the house of Mr. Evans, next door. They ran- sacked both houses completely. Information to be given to J. Box Stockdale, Superintendent, Cardiff.— Bow- street, Septem- ber 14. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Supposed to have been stolen from a field at Kingswover, Stogumber, on the night of the 11th instant, a dark bay cart Mare, 9 years old, 14 hands high, white star on forehead, has had broken knees, and near hind fetlock white. Information to be given to the owner, William Chillcott, or to Superinten- dent Mear, Constabulary, NUliton, Somerset.— Bow- street, September 18. Supposed to have beta stolen, from Framlingham, on the night of the 5th instant, a light mare Donkey, aged, black mark down the back, top teeth marly 11 out, a hole in onij ear, and a small piece off the end of tlie other, the top of the off fore foot split. Information to be given to Inspector Fisher, Framlingham, Suffolk.— Bows'reel, September 18. Supposed to have been stolen from a field in the parish of Chalford, Oxon, during the night of the 14th September, a dark brown Pony, 4 years old, 12| hands high, and Switch tail. Information to be given to C. Howarth, Superintendent, Chipping Norton, Oxon.— Bow- street, September 18. Supposed to have been stolen from a field at Oswestry, on the night of the 11th instant, a wether Sheep, marked on the left side ' T. E.' ; and a Welsh Ewe, the property of Mr. Jones. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Gough, Oswes- try, Salop.— Bow- street, September 16. Supposed to have been stolen, fro n a field near the ' Cross Keys,' Midford, near Bath, a two- year old black and white Heifer, marked with a cut from a scissors on the hip and on the right side. Also supposed to have been stolen, between Maiden Bradley and Frome, Somerset,, a light- red Cow, with a few light spots on it, 6 years old, marked the same as above, the property of a dealer, who will pay all expenses. Suspicion is attached' to drovers. Information to he " given to Richard Hare, Superintendent, Shaftesbury, Dorset.— Bow- street, Sep- tember 16. Supposed to have been stolen, on or about the 15th July last, from the turnpike- road, Tedbury, St. Mary, Devon, a dark- coloured gelding Donkey, years old, ' W. D.' branded on both fore hoofs, and a scar on flank. Information to be fiven to Mr. John Sargent, Superintendent, Copplestone, Devon.— Bow- street, September 16. Supposed to have been stolen, from a field at Tranmere, Cheshire, during the night of the 10th instant, a dun- coloured horse Pony, with dark stripes across the shoulders and back, about 14 hands high, and in good condition. A man of the following description, who was seen near the premises the same night, is suspected of stealing the same : he lias the appcarance of a gipsy, is about 25 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, no whiskers; dressed in a sleeved waistcoat, light woollen cord trousers, which " fit close to the leg, and dark cloth cap. Infor- mation to be given to Mr. Superintendent Hammond, Consta- bulary Office, Birkenhead, Cheshire.— Bow- street, September 14. Further information respecting the Horse, Saddle, and Bridle stolen from Adderbury, Oxon, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 11th instant. The horse is supposed to have been stolen by a man who had been staying the previous week at various publichouses in the neighbourhood of Deddington and Adderbury, and absconded on the evening of the 7th instant. He is about 55 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, slenderly made, grey hair, long grey whiskers on chin ; dressed in felt hat, black coat and waistcoat, plaid trousers, and is of respectable appearance. He frequents small publichouses, and generally leaves without paying his bill. Information to he given to Mr. Superintendent W. Whadcoat, Banbury, Oxon. — Bow- street, September 14. The dark brown 3- year- old cart Mare, supposed to have been stolen from the parish of Great Shelsley, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 31st ultimo, has not been found ; it is supposed that it was taken towards the mining districts of Shropshire or Staffordshire. £ 5 reward will be paid by Mr. John Dance, the owner, on the recovery of the mare, and conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Raby, Police Station, Great Witley, Worcestershire.— Bow- street, September 14. Supposed to' have been stolen during the night of the 7th instant, from a field at Upper Penn, the property of Mr. John Tandey, farmer, at Penn, Staffordshire, a light grey cart Horse, 6 years old, 15J hands high, long tail cut off level at the end, in good condition ; also a dark brown cart Horse, aged, 16 hands high, in good condition. Information to be given to Sergeant Tomlinson, Sedgeley, or to P. C. James Bullock, Upper Penn. — Bow- street, September 14. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMSKI.. Further information respecting the robbery at the Bank of Wellingboro, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 9th inst., MATTHEW HENRY ESCOTT, is further charged, in addi- tion to the said robbery, with stealing on the 3rd instant, the following Bank of England Notes : 10 £ 20, Nos. 27632 to 27641 inclusive, and 8 £ 10, Nos. 38624 and 38631 inclusive. Information to he given to Mr. C. Chambers, Wellingboro, Northamptonshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension. — Bow- street, September 18. Stolen on the 10th instant, from Warwick, a black cloth Coat, a Shawl, a Shirt, a pair of Wellington Boots, and other articles, the property of Ellen Childs ; all the property reco- vered, except the boots. By a sweep, 21 years of age, about 5 feet high, rather sandy hair, blue eyes ; dressed in a light jacket with narrow stripes, very much faded, a pair of shepherd's plaid trousers with a patch on the right knee, and is supposed to be wearing the stolen boots. Information to be given to Mr. W. C. Hickling, Chief of Police, Warwick.— Bow- street, September 18. Stolen from the dwelling- house of Henry Burch, of Chilfrom, Dorset, on the 12th instant, the following articles, viz. : a double- cased engine- turned Geneva silver Watch; a Cheque Book ot Eliot and Pearce's Bank, Dorchester ; a quantity of old silver and copper Coins, a Half- crown piece, several Shillings and Sixpences, and Pence and Halfpence ; two or three old broken silver Teaspoons, not marked; a gold wedding Ring, very old ; a pair of plain gold Earrings, and several Receipts of the Dorchester Old Bank. By a man and woman of the following description : the man, who gives the name of JOHN DAVIS, is of middle age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, fresh complexion, rather stout, dressed in a dark coat and cap, with a French or straight peak, lace- up boots, no whiskers, but wears a tuft of hair on the chin ; he travels with a box of fish, and sometimes a basket of nuts : the woman is about 25 years of age, dressed in a dirty white straw bonnet, trimmed with brown ribbon. Information to be given . to Superintendent George Underwood, Dorset Constabulary, Dorchester.— Bow- street, September 18. Absconded from the borough of Chesterfield, in the county of Derby, on the 9th instant, charged with embezzling £ 14, the property of his master, WILLIAM LIMB, 42 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, sallow complexion, dark brown hair, thin face and small dark whiskers; dressed in dark brown coat, black trousers, grey cloth cap, or black hat. He has been employed as a draper's assistant, and most likely will be seeking a situation as such. Information to be given to Mr. Chief Superintendent James Radford, Borough Police, Chesterfield, Derbyshire, who holds a warrant for his appre- hension.— Bow- street, September 18. A warrant has been issued for the apprehension of WILLIAM WRIGHT, charged with stealing a dark mixture cloth Coat, bound with black braid, loose fitting, the property of Thomas Hollebone, Hailsham, Sussex. He is 35 to 40 years of age, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, proportionate make, ftir complexion, light brown hair and small whiskers, turns out his toes when walking ; dressed in an old brown faded velvet waistcoat, dark mixture trousers fitting tight to leg, old light cloth cap with peak, old half boots with brass eyelet holes cut down in front,, and supposed to be wearing the stolen coat ( which is too short in the sleeves for him), as he had no other when he left Hailsham on the 26th ultimo. Information to be given to Mr. W. Waghorn, Hailsham ; or at any Police Station in East Sussex.— Bow- street, September 18. Henry James is about 28 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, rather sallow complexion, blue eyes, light brown hair, mous- tache, and beard, which is supposed to be dyed a dark colour, he is of good address, and very gentlemanly in appearance. Percy Edwards, 23 or 24 years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches high, blue eyes, a peculiar cast in them, nose disfigured as if from a blow, rather dark complexion ; dressed in a light blue coat, tweed or plaid trousers ; he is very fond of drinking, and is then very talkative. James and Edwards have been living at the Hawthorns, and Sunnyside, Alsager, Cheshire ; they are now travelling about the country, staying at first class hotels. It is feared that some ill has befallen him, or that he has met with some foul treanment. On the 12th instant., the body of a full grown female Child was found wrapped in a white night- gown, two pieces of blanket, placed in a hat or bonnet box, and left in the church- yard at Cuckney, Notts. An inquest was held at the ' Green Dale Oak' public- house, before Mr. C. S. Burnaby, coroner, and medical evidence proved the child to be full grown and born alive, but owing to the decomposed state of the body, which must have been dead more than a week, could not positively state the exact cause of death, therefore an open verdict was returned. In her possession was found the following property: a small gold Geneva Watch, No. 79896, maker Piaget, Geneve, enamelled back ; three silver Tea Spoons, marked ' W. E. B.'; a blue satin Watch Pocket, ' From a Friend' worked with white and silver beads; a white satin ditto, ' Remember me' worked in blue, red, and silver beads ; seven pairs of white kid Gloves ; three pairs of lavender ditto ; a blue Scent Bottle with silver top ; a green ditto, with ditto; and a large quantity of Napkins, and silk and cambric Hand- kerchiefs, marked ' Walker,' ' G.
