THE Police Gazette, OR HUE- AND- CRY1. Published for Ireland on every Tuesday and Friday. | All Notices intended for insertion in the Hue- and Cry, are to he transmitted under cover addressed to the Inspector- General of Constabulary ( the words Hue- and- Cry to be written on the left hand corner of the Envelope). No Description can be inserted unless an Information shall have been Sworn} but it is not necessary to forward the Informations to the Inspector- General. As the Law ( 48 Geo. 3, e. 140, s. 44,) only permits the insertion of Notices respecting Felonies, no other description of Notice can be inserted in the Hue and- Cry. DUBLIN, FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 4, 1863. Scottish Police. STOLEN from the person of a gentleman, whilst asleep in Dumfries, on Wednesday, the 12th August, 1863 :— A black leathor pocket book, containing £ 115, in bank notes, consisting of— i Three £ 20 notes of the Clydesdale Bank, Five £ 5 notes of the same bank, Five £ 1 notes of the same bank, Twenty £ 1 notes of the British Linon Company Bank, and One £ 5 note, bank unknown. The above thelt is supposed to have been committed by the following parties, viz.:— 1. Peter Wells, labourer or hawker, about 34 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, stout built, sallow com- plexion, dark hair and whiskers, and tuft of dark hairon chin; slightly pockpitted, and of sullen, downlooking appearance ; has an old scar on face, and is or was lately suffering from ulcerated sore throat; dressed in dark cap and gray tweed suit. 2. Elizabeth M'Harg, or Wells, a prostitute, about 28 years of age, 5 feot 5 or 6 inches high, slender make, and stoops a littlo at tbe shoulders when walkii g, fresh complexion, fair hair, thin faced, and prominent nose. Is pretty good- looking. Generally wears large ear- rings. Generally dressed in dark bonnet and tar- tan shawl, bnt has a great variety of different articles of dress. Police officers and others are earnestly requested to keep a sharp look out for the above- named parties, and if found with the stolen property in, or it can be traced to, their possession, to apprehend and detain them, and communicate with the Superintendent of Police, Dum- fries, N B. WHEREAS information has reached the Government that Patrick Ross and James Ross, charged with the murder of John Corrigan, and with firing at and wounding his wife, Mary Corrigan, near Malkagh, in the barony of Longford, and county of Longford, on the 20th April, 1862, and who have not as yet been arrested, have been concealed, and are harboured, received, and concealed, and assisted and aided in several parts of the country since the said murder: Now, His Excellency the Lord Lieutenant is pleased to offer a reward of £ 100 to any person or persons who shall, within six months from the date hereof, give such information as shall lead to the arrest of any one whomsoever who has, since the said murder, knowingly harboured, or received, or con- cealed, or assisted or aided in any way whatever in their escape from arrest, the said Patrick Ross and James Ross. By His Excellency's command, THOS. A. LARCOM. The above reward will be paid, on conviction, Ly the Resident Magistrate at Longford. DESCRIPTION of said Pat Ross and James Ross:— Patrick, 35 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, stout make, sallow complexion, thin face, gray eyes, sharp nose, cut on his lip, brown hair; wore a gray frieze coat, cord trowsers, dark vest; wore a jim crow hat Will try to escape to America. WHEBEAS it has been represented to the Lord Lieutenant, that on the morning of the 4th instant, John Andrew Jackson, Esq., J. P., was murdered in his own Demesne, at Mount Pleasant, in the barony of Upper Ormond, and county of Tipperary, by some person or persons at present unknown. His Excellency, for the better apprehending and bringing to justice the perpetrators of this murder, is pleased hereby to offer a reward of £ 100 to any person or persons who shall, within six months from the date hereof, give such information as shall lead to tho arrest of the person or persons who com- mitted the same. By His Excellency's command, THOS. A. LABCOM. The above reward will be paid by John Fleming, Esq., the Resident Magistrate at Nenagh, to those who may become entitled to it under the conditions of this Proclamation. DUBLIN CASTLE, February 24, 1863. WHEBEAS Michael Hayes, who is charged with having murdered Mr. John Waller Braddell, on the 80th of July, 1862, in the town of Tipperary, has hitherto evaded arrest. His Excellency the Lord Lieutenant is pleased hereby to offer a reward of £ 300 to any person or persons who shall, within six months from the date hereof, give such information as shall lead to the arrest of the said Michael Hayes. And His Excellency is further pleased hereby to offer a reward of £ 100 to any person or persons who shall, within six months from the date hereof, give such information as shall lead to the arrest of any one whomsoever who has, since the said murder, knowingly harboured or received, or concealed, or assisted, or aided in any way whatsoever, the said Michael Hayes in his escape from arrest. By His Excellency's command, THOS. A. LABCOM. The above rewards will be paid by any Resident Magistrate or Officer of the Constabulary. DESCRIPTION of said Michael Hayes:— 60 years of age, 6 feet high, stout make, dark sallow complexion, large heavy face, dark eyes, rather long nose, black, a little gray hair; wore . a black frieze body coat, knee breeches, black stockings, Caroline hat; stooped shoulders, and a heavy slovenly gait when walking; has a down look; very heavy eyebrows, somewhat gray ; bald on the crown of the head, with a few stray hairs on it; several of his front teeth out; high cheek bones and sunken jaws ; and altogether a remarkable and an ill- looking man. He may probably assume a disguise, such as a wig, moustache, false teeth, and black coat, & c. Cappamore, 3rd August, 1862. ( B. 10071— 10283.) DESCRIPTION of two sheep, the property of Rev. Richard Maunsell, clerk, which were stolen from the lands of Tubberaheena, parish of Inishlonaght, and barony of Iffa and Offa East, on the night of the 1st, or morning of 2nd instant:— Two white sheep, value for £ 4, with " R M." branded on the side with tar, and red raddle mark down the forehead and nose. Clonmel, 2nd Sept., 1863. ( B. 24181— 12158.) DESCRIPTION of William Davern, native of Bally- landers, county Limerick, who stands charged with having, on the 18th day of August, at Clashdrumsmith, in tho barony of Clanwilliam, parish of Emly, stolen a cow, the property of William Gearan, and sold her in the city of Limerick, on the 19th instant, to a butcher, the skin of which was identified :— 38 years of age, 5 feet 11 inches high, slight make, pale complexion, dark eyes, thin long nose, brown hair; wore a dark frock coat, outside pockets, cord trowsers, dark vest. Was in tho army at the Crimea; he assumes a slouch- ing, slovenly gait. This man was seen on the 22nd instant at Mrs. King's, corner of Old- market, Mallow- lane, Cork, and it is very probable he will try to emigrate. Tipperary, 1st Sept., 1863. ( B. 24174— 12152.) The property described in the Hue- and- Cry of the 25th ultimo, stolen from Lieutenant Boothe, 5th Dra- goons, has been recovered. DESCRIPTION of a man, who gives his name as James Carey, who stands charged with having, on the 23rd day of August, at Horseleap, in the barony of Moy- cashel, parish of Horseleap, in his possession a pony mare ( supposed to have been stolen), years old, bay colour, recently shod, legs tending to a dark colour, 11 hands high, and value for £ 5:— 28 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, slight make, fair com- plexion, dark hair, blue eyes; has the appearance of a servant; wore a cap, dark frock coat, dark tweed trowsers, dark vest. Supposed from Clone, county Wicklow. This man has been committed to Tullamore Gaol, until 2nd prox., when he will bo brought up at Potty Sessions of Clara, King's county, for having stolen a mule from the lands of Donore. Information to be given to Sub- Inspector, Kilbeggan. The pony is at livery at Horseleap, county Westmeatb. Kilbeggan, 26th August, 1863. ( B. 23038— 8927.)
