POLICE GAZETTE. CONTAINING The substance of all Informations received in cases of Felony, and of Misdemeanors of an aggravated nature, and against Receivers of Stolen Goods, reputed Thieves, and Offenders escaped from Custody, with the time, the place, and the circumstance of the Offence. The Names of Persons charged with Offences who are known but not in custody, and a Description of those ivho are not known, their Appearance, Dress, and other marks of identity. The Names of Accomplices and Accessories, with every particular which may lead to their Apprehension. A Description, as accurate as possible, vf Property that has been stolen, and a minute Description of Stolen Horses, for the purpose of tracing and recovering them. No. 3815 FRIDAY, AUGUST 7, 1863. Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the pur- pose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to MR. W. D. BURNABY, the Editor, Police Court, Bow- street, London, W. C. *„* Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all letters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from tho Militia, as well as those from the regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Mall, London, S. W,," as they cannot be published without his authority. INFORMATIONS. steel clasp, containing about four Shillings: about 20 to 24 years of age, slender make, middle size, dark hair and com- plexion ; dressed in shabby black coat, light grey trousers, with a patch of dark coloured cloth over the boot front, dark plush cap, nearly black. He was afterwards seen with ballads or tracts. Information to be given to the Chief Constable, Leicester, or at any of the Police Stations in the county of Leicester.— Bow- street, August 7. Stolen from the person of Hugh Young, at Poultal- cum- Spital, Cheshire, on the 2nd instant, a silver Watch, No. 4391, silver dial, one pair extra jewelled, and gold balance, maker's name Thomas W. Howard, Liverpool. Information to be given to Mr. Thomas Hammond, Superintendent of County Police, Abbey- street, Birkenhead.— Bow- street, Auqust, 5. Stolen from the person of a lady, on the 3rd instant, on the platform of the Great Northern Railway Company, at Doncaster, a large gold lever Watch, engine- turned, gold face and figures, maker's name, French, Royal Exchange, London. Information to be given to Superintendent J. Gregory, Don- caster.— Bow street, Auqust 5. Further information respecting the Watch, No. 21687, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 27th ultimo, as having been stolen from the person of a gentleman, at the Shrub Hill Railway Station, Worcester : the monogram on the case is formed of the letters ' J. E.' not ' R. E.' Information to be given to the City of Worcester Police.— Bow- street, August 5. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. On the 3rd ultimo, a young woman absconded from Gloucester, leaving her infant child, 14 days old, which she had before refused the breast, and otherwise neglected, iliw charge of a person with whom she lodged; the child, from want of nourishment and attention, died on the 7th ultimo; an inquest has since been held, and the jury returned a verdict of < Manslaughter' against CLARA HEPBURN, otherwise JANE HEBORN, the mother of the child, and the coroner thereupon issued his warrant for her apprehension. She is about 20 or 22 years of age, middle height and stature, rather full face, fair complexion, rather thick lips, and dark brown hair, combed plain down the side of face ; dressed in a straw bonnet, with a bunch of flowers over the right temple, dark mantle or cloak, light dress, or a snuff- coloured plaid, and had with her a small umbrella or parasol: had the appearance of a respectable country servant girl. While in Gloucester she received a post- office order, on the 2nd ultimo, from a person giving her name Emily Luff, and the order was obtained at the Post Office, Grove- terrace, Bayswater, London, and it is suspected that this young woman is staying somewhere in that neighbourhood. Information to be given to Mr. Griffin, Superintendent of Police, Gloucester, who holds a warrant for her apprehension. , August 3. ROBBERY And LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen, on the 30th ultimo, from the person of Mr. Bell, of No. 2, Burton street, Burton crescent, while in Euston- square, a lady's gold Watch, open face, Roman numerals, a • wreath of flowers on back, maker ' Aguill, No. 16486.' — Metropolitan Police, E Division, August 7. Stolen from the person on the Race- hill, Brighton, on the 4th instant: I gold lever Watch, ' R. W. Hope' engraved on inner case, maker Ganthony. 1 large engirte- turned gold Watch, white face with maker's name on it, the second hand the size of the dial. 1 large gold Geneva Watch, silver dial, second hand" 1 small silver lever Watch, double case, makers Cousins & Whiteside, Davey- street, London. 1 engine- turned silver lever hunting Watch, no second hand, makers Davey and Sons, Lewes. Information to be given to the Chief Constable, Town Hall, Brighton.— Bow- street, August 7. Stolen from the person of a gentleman, in the city of Ripon, by violence, about 9.30 p. m. on the 5th instant: a silver Geneva Watch, jewelled in five holes, rather delved at the back ; a brown twilled silk Umbrella with rustic stick, quite new; a Pincushion, Osborne House on one side and looking- glass on the other ; a small Wharncliffe Pocket- knife ; a few Dutch copper Coins ( cents); and a few small English silver Coins. By two young men, supposed dressed in grey coats and caps. Information to be given to Mr. W. Burniston, Chief Borough Police Officer, Ripon, Yorkshire.— Bow- st., August 7. Stolen from the person of Benjamin Ince, between 7 and 9 p. m. on the 4th instant, at Jack field, Broseley, Salop, a Sovereign. By HENRY BURROUGHS, 22 years of age, about 5 feet 9 inches high, dark sandy whiskers, and supposed to be dressed in a suit of black cloth clothes; is of respectable appearance, and has been recently discharged from the Wolver- hampton Police Force. Information to be given to Mr. Super- Bridgnorth ; or to P. C. J. Chase, BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. On the 4th instant, between the hours of 10 and 12 a. m., the dwelling- house of David Gorruge, at Copshorn, Worth, Sussex, was broken and entered, and a nearly new corded Jacket, the property of James Harris, a lodger, stolen there- from : supposed by a man about 3fi. years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, light complexion and hair ; dressed in a dark velveteen jacket, light cord trousers, and black billycock hat ; was traced to Smallfield, Surrey, in company with three other men, sup- posed to be tramps. Information to be given to Mr. Superin- tendent Kennard, Police Station, East Grinstead, Sussex.— Bow- street, August 7. intendent McWilliam, Broseley, Salop.— Bow- street, 7. Description of a man who is charged with presenting a pistol at, and stealing from the person of a young lady, on the turnpike- road, in the parish of Thurnby, near Leicester, on the 6th instant, at 12 o'clock at noon, a leather Purse, with Stolen, between midnight and 0' 30 a. m., the 6th instant, from Bloomfield- house, Egremont- piace, Brighton, by means of housebreaking, the property of Mr. Buchanan : 1 large silver Castor, in the shape of a boat, with seven cruets. 1 silver Table Spoon, marked ' W. B.' 4 silver Egg Spoons. 4 plated Egg Cups. 1 plated Dessert Knife and Fork with ivory handles. 1 pair of high plated Candlesticks, much worn. 2 linen Tablecloths and Napkins, marked Buchanan. About four dozen Knives and Forks, most of them made by Mappin Brothers. Most of the silver and plated articles marked ' W. J. B.' Infor- mation to be given to the Chief Constable, Town Hall, Brighton.— Bow- street, August 7. On the night of the 2nd instant, the dwelling- house of Mr. John Lane, of Clerkenleap Farm, Kempsey, near Wor- cester, was burglariously entered, and the following property stolen therefrom:— 6 silver Tea Spoons, marked ' L.' 2 ditto Table Spoons ditto ' I. L.' 1 ditto Gravy Spoon ditto ' I. L.' 1 ditto Knife ditto ' S. H.' 4 plated Tea Spoons, 24 plated Dessert Forks, 2 plated Salt Spoons, 1 plated pair of Sugar Tongs, 1 plated pair of Snuffers and Tray, all marked ' I. L.' 1 plated Pickle Fork. 5 plated Knife Rests. 1 small French Time- piece. Supposed by Tramps. Information to be given to Mr. Super- intendent James Phillips, County Police Station, Worcester. — Bow- street, August 5. Between the hours of 9' 30 p. m. 1st and 6' 30 a. m. the 2nd instant, the shop of Messrs. Hill and Price, Broad Quay, Bristol, was broken and entered, and the following property stolen therefrom : a ship's Chronometer in mahogany case, bound with brass, No. 2623, maker John Poole, Fenchurch- street, London ; an Holosterie Barometer with open face, in black case, the initials H. P. B. N.' on case and back; a small Microscope in mahogany case, with three small Powers about 5 feet long, 3J ins. wide, and 2 deep, and a pair of silver frame Spectacles in a green leather case, engraved ' J. P.' or ' J. Parrott,' and a common plated single Eye- Glass. Information to be given to the Chief Superintendent of Police, Bristol.— Bow- street, August 5. Further information respecting the housebreaking at the shop of Mr. Roberts, of Malpas, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 2nd instant. Also stolen eighteen Table Knives and Forks, with black handles; eighteen Dessert Knives and Forks, with black handles ; eighteen Table Knives and Forks, with brown handles; about three dozen Pocket Knives, different sorts ; two dozen Scissors; half- dozen Pocket Combs ; one dozen Tea Spoons, nickel silver; two dozen Table Spoons, two dozen smaller ditto. By a man, short and stout, hail- cut short; dressed in a brown jacket and c ip. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent H. Foster, County Police, Malpas, Cheshire.— Bow- street, August 5. Stolen from the dwelling- house of the Rev. J. Poulter, by means of housebreaking, on the morning of the 2nd inst., at Wellingborough, a lady's gold Watch, chased, maker's name French, London, No. 9007, a gold fancy guard Chain and Key attached; three Sovereigns, and an Half- crown. Supposed by a man of the following description, who was seen near the house previous to the robbery ; about 5 feet 10 inches high, about 40 years of age, brown whiskers meeting under the chin ; dressed very respectably in a suit of black cloth, and black hat, and carried an umbrella. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent C. Chambers, Chief Constable's Office, Northampton, or to Inspector John Jeffs, Police Station, Wellingborough.— Bow- street, August 5. Between 10 p. m. on the 2nd and 5 a. m. on the 3rd instant, the dwelling- house of Robert Tate, in the parish of Brompton, in the North Riding of Yorkshire was broken and entered, and the following property stolen therefrom: a fustian Vest with sleeves, lined with swansdown, greasy in front, hole in corner of right side ; a grey Cape with three Tabs, lined with drab ; a pair of Boots, lace up the front; a grey Coat and pair of Trousers, nearly new ; a black Vest; a pair of light Boots with brass eyelet- holes ; a pair of old strong Boots ; three cotton Shirts, marked ' L. B.'; a canvas Bag, marked ' Leonard Bell'; a dark Vest with red spots, rather faded; a large Slop with a cover for the head and wire netting for the face, used for taking bees; a small Basket with round ends aud a new handle ; a boy's black cloth Cap ; a scarlet Scarf; a rabbit Pie; and seven pieces of Cake. Information to be given to Inspector John Richardson, East Ayton; or to Mr. Superintendent Jonas Pickering, North Riding Constabulary, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, August 5. Between 11 p. m. on the 3rd, and 6' 30 a. m. on the 4th instant, the dwelling- house of Thomas Jagger, traveller, Yew tree- terrace, Gorton, was broken and entered, and the following property stolen therefrom, viz. : a gentleman's Overcoat, made of strong a steel blue colour, with velve collar, horn buttons, one of which is wanting on the top of the right side, has a pocket in each lap behind, one outside left breast, and a ticket pocket on the right side, which has been torn and stitched up; a reversible worsted Table Cover, blue and gold on one side, and brown and gold on the other ; a ditto ditto, magenta and brown, with green border; a linen Table Cover, bird pattern, red. and blue ; and a grey linen diaper Table Cover, far worn. Also, between 1 and 4 p. m. on the 3rd instant, the dwelling- house of John Pattison, lodge keeper and gardener at Langley House, Prestwich, was broken and entered, and the following property stolen therefrom, viz.: a black cloth Over- coat, with pockets behind, one inside left breast, and bound with black braid ; a light blue frock Coat, pockets behind, one inside left breast, and lined with black silk; a black cloth dress Coat, pockets behind, and black lining— all old- fashioned ; a grey Vest, single- breasted, with a watch- pocket in left breast, and black lining; a black cloth flowered Vest, lined inside pockets with black leather; and three white Tablecloths, marked ' D. P.' in one corner with ink. Information to be given to the Superintendent of the County Police, Old Trafford, near Manchester.— Bow- street, Auqust 6. Between 10 a. m. and 8 p. m. on the 18th ultimo the dwelling- house of Samuel Kinsey, of Fronfelin Lodge, Mont- gomeryshire, was broken and entered, and the following property stolen therefrom : a brown velvet Jacket, pockets in the skirts and one in left breast; a brown velvet Waistcoat, dark jean hack and sleeves, nearly new, buttons up to chin ; an old black Topcoat; a pair of Boots ; a pair of brass Candle- sticks ; a Clothes Brush ; and about £ 1 in silver. Two tramps, of the following description have been apprehended and com- mitted for trial at the next quarter sessions for the offence • JOHN SHEPHERD, about 18 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, dark brown hair, marked with anchor and ' A. B.' on right arm and anchor on Tight hand ; dressed in a grey jacket, old militia trousers, and black cloth cap : he waa convicted at the quarter sesaiona at Welshpool in October laat. JOHN HEALEY, 23 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, dark brown hair, sallow complexion, marked with cross and ring on left arm ; dreaaed in an old black velvet jacket, cord trousers, clogs, and light cap : he was convicted at the quarter seasions in January last at Presteign, Radnorshire ; and both prisoners were again committed for trial at the assizes held at Newtown in July, and acquitted. The property is still missing, excepting the pair of boots, which were exchanged by them to a person the same evening near Newtown. They are supposed to have committed offences elsewhere. Information to be given at the Chief Constable's Office, Newtown; or to P. C. John Pearson, Caersws, Montgomeryshire.— Bow- street, August 3. Stolen by means of housebreaking, during the morning of the 2nd instant, from Mr. Roberts, grocer, ironmonger, & c., about two dozen Table Knives and Forks ; one dozen Knives and Forks of a smaller size, with black handles ; a quantity of Pocket Knives of different aorts ; one dozen Table Spoons, and one dozen smaller size ditto, Britannia metal. Information to be given to Sergeant A. Foster, County Constabulary Station, Malpas, Cheshire.— Bow- street, August 3. Description of three men suapected of having committed a burglary at Pontesbury on the night of the 27th ultimo. One is about 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, from 35 to 40 years of age, dark complexion and hair, and supposed to be dressed in a dark pilot monkey jacket, dirty light cord trousers, and dark cap or deerstalker hat; one is about 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, dark- brown complexion and hair, and dreBsed in a moleskin sleeved waiatcoat and trousers, and brown wideawake hat, has the appearance of an Iriahman, about 25 to 30 years of age ; and the other is about 5 feet 2 or 3 inches high, nearly 17 of 18 years of age, fair complexion and hair, and dressed in a dirty white slop, cord trousers, and dark cap or deerstalker hat. 2 POLICE GAZETTE. August 7. They were seen about the village the night previous to the burglary, and are supposed to belong to a gang who are going about the country robbing public- houses and shops, as they go from one public- house to another asking what sort of business the others are doing. They were traced in the direction of Oswes- try. Information to be given to Detective Sergeant Dovey, County Constabulary, Shrewsbury; or to Sergeant E. Jones, Minsterley, Salop.— Bow- street, August 3. HORSE AND CATTLE On the 1st instant, a lad left a heavy Cart Horse at an inn in High Wycombe, with a spotted Shawl and some Eggs in a basket, stating that it was for a Mr. Stevens, living in the neighbourhood, application has been made to Mr. Stevens who denies all knowledge of the horse, and it is supposed to have been stolen. It is an iron- grey horse, with saddle marks on each side, star on the forehead, black mane, and long tail, about 16 hands high, black legs. Information to be given to Mr. George Davis, Superintendent, High Wycombe.— Bow- street, August 7. Description of HENRY BATE, a grocer's assistant, late of Stourbridge, Worcestershire, charged with stealing a Horse and Trap on the 1st instant : 31 or 32 years of age, about 5 ft. 1 or 2 inches high, thin appearance, pale complexion, light hair, very small whiskers and moustache, short sighted, and generally wears spectacles ; dressed in black frock coat, grey trousers, and blue scarf fastened with a ring. Information to he given to Captain Segrave, Chief Constable, Wolverhampton, who holds a warrant for his apprehension. — Bow- street, ' 7. Supposed to have been stolen, during the night of the 30th ultimo, from a field at Begbrooke, Oxon, the property of Mr. James Walker, a half- bred ewe Lamb, supposed to have a hole punched through the left ear. Information to be given to Inspector Coates, Woodstock, Oxon.— Bow- street, August 7. Supposed to have been stolen, on the 30th ultimo, from Wirswall, near Whitchurch, an ewe Sheep, and a tup Lamb, of the Shropshire Down breed, the lamb has a bit cut out of the right ear, aud both marked with ' P. J.' on the offside ; the property of Parry Jones, Esq., Marbury Hayes. Information to be given to Superintendent Larch, Nantwich, or to P. C. Joseph Seddon, Police Station, Marbury, Cheshire.— Bow- street, August 5. Supposed to have been stolen from Hartlebury- common, since the 30th ultimo, a mare Donkey, aged, and a male Foal about 2 months old : she is dark brown, with white belly and nose, large size, well made, and in good condition, the hair is knocked off her hind fetlocks from kicking. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent William Staunton, Stourport, Worcestershire.— Bow- street, August 5. Supposed to have been stolen, from West Lodge, Iwerne Minster, within the last week, three cross- bred Irish Ewes, and one Lamb, neither of them marked ; the lamb is one of a twin. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Richard Hare, Dorset Constabulary, Shaftesbury.— Bow- street, August 3. Supposed to have been stolen during the night of the 30th ultimo, from a field at Ackworth, the property of William Peel, Esq., Ackworth Park, near Pontefract : a Lincoln Wether marked- with the letter ' P.' on the left side' with pitch. In- formation to be given to Mr. Superintendent Hall, Sessions House, Pontefract, York.— Bow- street, August 3. Stolen from a field at Pool Quay, during the night of the 28th ultimo, a black Ewe Lamb, with mottled face, weighing 9 lbs. per quarter, having the letter ' J.' in pitch on the rump. Information to be given to P. C. Thomas, Guilsfield, or at the Chief Constable's Office, Welshpool, Montgomeryshire.— Bow- street, August 3. 4 inches high, slight, dark complexion, hair, whiskers, and moustache, small weak black eyes, of Jewish appearance; dressed in blue ribbed cloth morning coat with quilted silk collar, dark vest and trousers, and black hat with mourning band.— Metropolitan Police, C Division, August 7. Absconded, on the 29th ultimo, stealing and taking with him about £ 25, monies of the workmen of Mr. Stapleton, No. 1, White Horse- lane, Stepney : a tinplate maker, 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, fair complexion, blue eyes, sharp nose, high forehead, high cheekbones, rather bald, light brown full whiskers and beard, and walks very erect ; dressed in short black coat with side pockets, black cloth vest, dark mixture pegtop trousers, side spring boots, blue plaid scarf, and round felt hat.— Metropolitan Police, Division, August 7. Absconded, 4th instant, from 33, Upper Montague- street, Montague- square, stealing a black silk Cloak with hood and ribbons. A female, 18 years of age, short, light hair ; dressed in black silk dress with flounces, black coatee, and round black hat.— Metropolitan Police, D Division, August 7. Absconded, 25th ultimo, from No. 20, Red Lion- square, stealing 247f yards of silk, various ; a Bill of Acceptance for £ 267 16s. 4d. at 3 months' date from 1st July, 1863, drawn on Thomas Townsend and Co., Lime- street, City. A traveller, 32 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, sallow complexion, light hair and whiskers ; dress dark, and of gentlemanly appearance.— Metropolitan Police, E Division, August 7. Description of WILLIAM HARRISON, a fitter, who is charged with stealing the following articles from the dwelling- house of Mrs. Macey, at Frimley, Surrey, on the 4th instant: a grey tweed Jacket, pockets outside ; a boy's blue Pilot Coat, lined with red and black plaid; a boy's black cloth single- breasted Frock Coat; a dark grey loose Over Coat, pockets be- hind ; a large black Scarf Shawl; and a small black Shawl with coloured fringe. He is about 33 years of age, 6 feet 8 inches high, dark complexion, small whiskers, and rather high cheek- bones ; dressed in old dark clothes and low- crowned hat with broad brim ; he is a native of Leeds, and states that he is a freemason ; he has a wife and two children, one aged 7 years, the other 18 months. No doubt he will be enquiring for work at smiths' shops, or for relief at freemason lodges. Informa- tion to be given to Mr. Superintendent James Murtell, Surrey Constabulary, Farnbam, who holds a warrant for his apprehen- sion.— Bow- street, August 7. colour, trousers darned about the knees, blucher shoes, blue cloth sap, and blue cotton stockings ; when he left was seen carrying two bundles, one tied in a white towel, the other in a red- coloured handkerchief. Information to be given to Mr. Edward J. Saggerson, Chief Superintendent, Middlesbrough- on- Tees, North Riding of Yorkshire.— Bow- street, August 5. Stolen, from a dwelling- house in the city of Durham, about 4 p. m. on the 25th ultimo, a patent lever silver Watch, plain dial, maker Savory, Cornhill, London. By a tailor, from 25 to 30 years of age, 5 feet 2 or 3 inches high, slender made, small features, peculiar look about the eyes, sharp prominent nose, fresh complexion ; dressed in dark coat and vest, check trousers, and black cap : stated that he nad been Forking at Newcastle- upon- Tyne, and was intending to make his way south. Information to be given to Mr. W. Beard, Chief Superintendent, City Police, Durham. ~ Sow- street, 3. LARCENY AMD EMBEZZLEMENT. Stolen, between 5 and 6 a. m. on the 31st ultimo, from No. 25, Seymour- place, Bryanstone- square, the property of Mr. Maunder: a grey linsey Dress ; a ditto Jacket; a black Shawl with two frills ; an amber Paisley Shawl; a black embroidered Shawl ; a white chip Bonnet; a velvet flounced Dress ; a gold spotted Dress; a Night Dress, open work ; a brown spotted Shawl, trimmed with lace; and a black Cashmere Shawl. By the female servant, who has absconded, age 35 to 40, 5 feet 2 inches high, stout, fair complexion, light brown hair ; dressed in some of the stolen clothes.— Metropolitan Police, D Division, August 7. Stolen, on the 18th ultimo, from No. 71, John- street, Tottenham- court- road, the property of Mr. Clifford, two Blankets; two Pillow cases ; two Sheets ; two feather Pillows ; a Tablecover; and other articles. By a female, 50 years of age, tall and stout, high cheekbones, fresh complexion, grey hair, dark eyes; dress, dark cotton, black shawl, and drab bonnet .— Metropolitan Police, E Division, August 7. FRAUDS AND AGGRAVATED MISDEMEANOURS, Absconded from Newport, Monmouthshire, on the 9th of May last, JOHN EVANS, clerk and timekeeper to Messrs. J. J. Cordes and Co., of the Dos Works, who is charged ( with one JOHN ROBERTS, who has been convicted), with conspiring together, and obtaining hy false pretences, from Thos. Cordes, upwards of £ 31. He is. 27 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, dark swarthy complexion, black hair, long black whiskers, small black sunken eyes, dark overhanging eyebrows, deep prominent forehead, and generally dressed in black or dark clothes, and high hat; he formerly worked in a machine room at a nail manufactory, and has relatives residing in Newcastle- Emlyn, South Wales. He is in company with a young woman, 20 years of age, 5 feet high, stoutly built, brown hair, very red in the face, and generally dresses in black clothes. Description of two men who are committed to Knutsford Gaol for twenty- one days' hard labour each for being found in the cabin of a flat lying in the river Weaver, at Northwich, in the county of Chester, with intent to commit a felony : JOHN BLACKER, a sailor, native of Lep, King's County, Ireland, 29 years of age, 5 feet 3J inches high, stout built, round face, fresh complexion, whiskers shaved off, dark hair, nearly bald on the top of the head, dark eyes and eye- brows ; dressed in figured plaid trousers, white linen jacket with metal buttons, light plaid vest with fancy buttons, black cloth cap with peak of the same material, brown striped woollen shirt stamped ' J. Armstrong, 171' in black ink, and a pair of strong lace- up boots ; states that he has been lodging in Chestenhall- street and Scotland- road, Liverpool, he also states that he has been in New York and Mexico. PETER AUSTIN, labourer, native of Whitechapel, Liver- pool, 24 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, stout built, brown hair, dark grey eyes, no whiskers, oval features, small light eye- brows ; dressed in a brown mixture pea jacket with black buttons, double breasted black cloth vest with black covered buttons, brown mixture woollen trousers, a new lilac printed shirt with pearl buttons, new woollen fancy scarf, and strong boots heavily nailed, lace- up the front with brass eyelet holes, and light new woollen Scotch cap with peak of the same material, has a small bob on the top, light coloured lining, and small black squares round the rim. They are both suspected of having committed offences elsewhere, or to have been previously convicted. Description of GEORGE LEE, who escaped from the custody of a police constable while on his way from Weston- super- Mare to Shepton Mallet Gaol, on the 4th instant, by his jumping out of a window of a railway carriage between High- bridge and Glastonbury : his name is supposed to be fictitious, and from his manner and appearance he is believed to have been previously convicted, he is about 19 years of age, 5 feet 4J ins. high, pale complexion, long nose, blue eyes, dark hair ( cut short), he had on a pair of handcuffs when he escaped ; dressed in a ' flashy' suit of black clothes, high crowned hat, and a pair of elastic side boots. He was fully committed to take his trial at the assizes on the 6th instant, at the city of Wells, Somerset, for picking a lady's pocket at the Highbridge Rail- way Station, on the Bristol and Exeter Railway. Description of WILLIAM WHITE, who was appre- hended on the 4th instant, at the Bishop Stortford Railway Station, charged with having in his possession a quantity of counterfeit Florins, which had been forwarded from London, and received by the prisoner : 26 years of age, a chemist's assistant, 6 feet high, dark brown hair, fair complexion, dark whiskers, full hazel eyes, and rather good looking ; dressed in black frock coat, brown striped woollen trousers, dark striped waistcoat, light check shirt, and purple black necktie, lace- up boots with brass eyelet holes and toe- caps ; states that he has been living as a chemist's assistant at No. 19, Great William- street, Caledonian- road, and left his situation on the 14th ult., and has since been lodging at an eel- pie house in Lambeth- walk, he had in his possession an indenture made between Thomas Holders and Thomas Harrison, both of Leeds, York- shire. He was in company with another man, who absconded, and who is of the following description : 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, thick built, appears to be an Irishman, full face, red and sunburnt, no whiskers ; dressed in dark check jacket ( much worn), pockets outside, black and white tweed waistcoat, cord trousers, patch on the middle of leg and on knee, and high blaek hat ( much worn). Description of a woman cemmitted for trial at the next quarter sessions to be holden Northallerton, charged with lar- ceny. She gave the name of EMMA BONNER, a native of Hull, ( which name is supposed to be fictitious), about 24 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, fresh complexion, full face, grey eyes, brown hair, has lost & tooth from the upper and two from the lower jaw, scar across right eyebrow, on forehead, and left cheek ; dretsed in a black silk skirt with white holland jacket, light grey cloth cape with blue hood, white straw bonnet trimmed with blue, and white flowered ribbon, and black kid boots with white buttons down the front. She states that her husband died about two years ago, and previous to that they travelled about the country with a sparring booth, and that she has been in Leeds and Selby lately. Description of two men who gave their names THOMAS WILLIAMS, and SAMUEL HOUGHTON, charged with larceny, who are committed to Haverfordwest Castle Gaol for trial at the next quarter sessions for the county of Pembroke : Williams states that he is a native of Bristol, labourer, 27 years of age, 5 feet 3f inches high, dark hair, blue eyes, dark com- plexion, a front tooth in upper jaw broken, lost a tooth on left side of lower jaw, sear on left side of chin, on upper lip, and on left leg, slender made. Houghton states that he is a native of Burnley, Lancashire, cotton spinner, 19 years of age, 5 feet ^- inch high, light hair, blue eyes, fresh complexion, lump on right side of neck, scar and lump on left side, scar on left arm and ancle, rather stout made. The silver lever Watch with silver Guard attached, and other articles, stolen from the schooner ' Uncle Billy,' at Goole, Yorkshire, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 3rd instant, have been recovered, and the youth therein described has been apprehended at Hull, and sentenced to six months' imprisonment for the offence.— Bow- street, August 7. Stolen, within the last three weeks, from a dove- cote at Meldon Park Farm, the property of Mr. William Taylor, about eighty couples of common Pigeons of various colours, some of which can be identified, particularly one with a light blue and white body with dark blue spots down each side of neck. Stolen from the ' Hesketh Arms' inn, Shevington, Lanca- shire, between the hours of 12 noon on the 30th ultimo, and 4 p. m. on the 2nd instant, a gold patent lever Watch, with engine- turned case, gold dial, seconds hand, extra jewelled, maker's name Pael Prince, Chester, No. 1058; had attached a gold Albert Chain, with one of the links broken in the middle, a small gold Seal, with a green stone set in it, a gold Key, with a red Btone on one side, and a white one on the other, a small Box, about the size of a watch, the lid of which screws off, and is inlaid with different kinds of wood, containing two gold Shirt Studs, with a small sprig engraved on them. Stolen from a stable at Shalston, Bucks, on the 30th or 31st ultimo, a pair of strong lace- up Boots, heavy nailed, sole and heel; a pair of blucher Boots, the sole of the left slightly worn through, nailed with small brads. Supposed by three Irishmen, father and sons, who lately worked on the premises: lst, about 65 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, grey hair and whiskers ; dressed in a rough flannel shirt, old cord trousers, and black billycock hat. 2nd, about 25 years of age, 5 feet 11 inches high, sandy hair and whiskers; dressed in a blaek pilot jacket, dark cord trousers, and brown cap. 3rd, about 18 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, light brown hair; dressed in an old brown jacket and dark cord trousers. They are supposed to be now employed at harvest work in Warwickshire. Also stolen, between the 25th and 27th ultimo, from the same pre- mises, two double rein Bridles, one has been repaired and had new reins, and the bit takes off, the other rather smaller and the bit does not take off, the property of Mr. W.
