INFORMATIONS. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. Her Majesty's Secretary of State for the Home Depart- ment has authorized the payment of a reward of £ 20 to any person giving such information as will lead to the apprehension of JOHN McMANUS, - who is charged with manslaughter at Sunderland, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 11th May last. Information to be given to Mr. J. Stainsby, Chief Con- stable, Sunderland.— Bow- street, July 17. ARSON AND WILFUL BURNING. Description of a man, who gave the name of JOHN WHITE, and stated that he came from London, committed for trial at the Hereford assizes to be holden on the 4th proximo, for setting fire to a Hay- stack, at Leominster, On the 8th instant. He is 22 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, fresh complexion, long visage, blue eyes, light hair, no whiskers, round shoulders, hump on left shoulder; dressed in dark check shirt, black cloth trousers and vest, old short white slop, black cap, and very old Wellington boots. It is suspected that he has been previously convicted or that he has committed offences elsewhere. A portrait of this man may be had on application. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Alexander, Leominster, Herefordshire.— Bow- street, July 17. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM' . THE PERSON. Supposed to have been stolen, in' or near Langholm, be- tween the night of the 11th and morning of the 12th instant, from the person, a single- cased horizontal silver Watch, maker's name ' Benson, London,' number unknown, silver- faced, flowered on dial, and chaptered steel hands, carved on back of cases, has a carved ring in centre of case; an open four- linked steel Chain ; a brass Seal with the stamp of a ship on it; and a brass Key with steel point, attached. Informa- tion to be given to the Chief Constable of Dumfreisshire, Dum- fries.— Bow- street, July 17. Supposed to have been stolen from the person, on the night of the 4th of May last, whilst returning from Minsterley fair, a silver verge Watch, capped, open- face, maker's name and No. on cap and works,' William Massey, Nantwich, No. 201. 10s. reward will be given on recovery of the watch, and conviction of the offender or offenders. Stolen 13th instant, from the person of Mrs. Smith, of 4, Sussex- gardens, Hyde Park, at the National Rifle Association, on Wimbledon- common, a green leather Purse, containing a £ 5 Bank of England Note, £ 2 in Gold : a gold mourning Ring engraved inside ' John Boden;' a Crystal Palace Season Ticket in the name of L. Smith. Also stolen on the 13th instant, at the above place, from the person of Dr. Boden, of 17, Cecil- street, Strand, a gold lever Watch, maker Nicholson, Plymouth .— Metropolitan Police, V Division, July 17. Stolen about 10- 15 p. m. 7th instant, from the person of Edward Eves, 289, Albany- road, Camberwell, while opposite the Clock Tower, London Bridge, a silver consular lever Watch, jewelled, maker Boswell, Tooley- street, No. 169 — Metropolitan Police, M Division, July 13. > > Stolen, on the night of the 25th ultimo, from a gentleman in the city of Manchester, a gold lever Watch, chronometer balance, gold dial, plain back with shield in centre, maker Jones, Liverpool; had gold curb Chain attached. Any person BURGLARY AND HOUSE BRBA5STO. Further particulars respecting the burglary committed at the workshop of Mr. Nicholls, of Castle- street, Shrewsbury, Wood turner, and advertised in the Police Gazette of the 10th instant, a tramp who gave the name of THOMAS ELLIS, has been apprehended and committed for trial at the next assizes to be holden at Shrewsbury, charged with this offence 40 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, swarthy complexion, brown hair, dark eyes, flat visage, and second finger of right hand cut off; states that he is a native of Ellesmere, Salop. Information to be given to Mr. John Hughes, Chief Constable, Bow Police Office, Shrewsbury.— Bow- street, July 17. Between the hours of 12' 30 and 3' 30 a. m. on the 11th instant, the dwelling- house of the Rev. Lewis Perkin, Rectory, Ingatestone, Essex, was broken and entered, and the following . articles stolen therefrom : a plated Sugar Basin, silver Sugar Tongs, a silver Sugar Sifter and Spoon, a silver pocket Com- munion Service, and plated Pickle Stand and Fork, crest on nearly all— a winged bull; a Portmonnaie, made with steel beads, containing Is. 6d..; two dark Inverness Capes; and a rosewood Writing Desk, containing 5s. and sundries. By two men of the following description : one, 26 or 27 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, dark hair and complexion, very small whiskers; dressed in black hat andsuit, and had with him a black oilskin bag : the other is taller and older, hair turning grey ; dressed in a light grey cap, brown checked coat, and light trousers. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent May, Springfield, Chelmsford, Essex.— Bow- street, J'uly 17. Between 11 p. m. on the 12th, and 6 a. m. on the 13th instant, the dwelling- house of John Weaver, of Patsull, in the. county of Salop, was broken and entered, and a black cloth Jacket, with three inside and three outside pockets, a pair of men's Boots, nearly new, with fancy pieces on the toes, a blue spotted Handkerchief, and a check Rubber, stolen therefrom. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent McWilliam, Bridgnorth ; or to P. C. ( No. 65), John Baxter, County Con- stabulary, Gatacre, near Bridgnorth, Salop.— Bow- street, July 17. On the night of the 5th instant, the cottage of James Ewen, of Wellingham, Norfolk, labourer, was entered by the back window, and a loaf of Bread, two common Brooches, Ijd. in Money, and a pair of men's lace- up Boots, stolen therefrom. The boots have since been found by the Police, sold at Lynn, by a tramp of the following description : about 35 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, brown hair, little or no whiskers, blind of one eye, and turns his feet out when walking ; dressed in an old mixed- coloured stableman's jacket, beveteen trousers, and an old light- coloured cap ; a tramp, and frequents low lodging- houses; he left Lynn, Norfolk, on the 7th instant. Information to be given to Superintendent J. Amis, East Dereham, Norfolk.— Bow- street, J'uly 15. Stolen, from the dwelling- house of Mr. T. Harrison, of Newsham, near Northallerton, Yorkshire, by means of house- breaking, between 10 a. m. and 6 p. m. on the I3th instant, the following pronerty : a silver verge Watch, ' H.' on the back of turret, black velvet ribbon Guard ; a pair of Half Boots, brass eyelet- holes, round headed nails ; a pair of Scissors ; a german silver Pencilcase ; a gold Breast Pin with stone to imitate a star ; a black silk Necktie ; a black and red silk Necktie ; and a red, white, and blue Muffler. Suspicion is attached to a man, about 35 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 8 inches high, little or no whiskers; dressed in black and white checked shooting coat and vest, cord trousers, and black cloth cap turning brown : he - is supposed to be wearing the stolen boots. Information to be given to Mr. G. Howard, Deputy Chief Constable, Northallerton, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, July 15. » On the evening of the 12th instant, between the hours of 6' 30 and 8 p. m., the dwelling- house of Mr. John Brinkworth, grocer and baker, Bristol- road, Chippenham, was broken and entered, and a silver Table Spoon, marked ' W. A. B.,' a pair of silver Tongs, about £ 1 5s. in Gold and Silver, and a similar amount in Halfpence, done up in 5s. packets, stolen therefrom. Two men, who are supposed to have come and returned by the excursion train on that day from London, are suspected : one, about 40 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, rather sandy hair and whiskers; the other, 35 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, dark hair, and long dark whiskers and moustache ; both dressed in black coats and high hats, and wearing gold ( or imitation gold) Albert Chains. Information to be given to Mr. James Wright, Superintendent of Police, Chippenham, Wilts.— Bow- street, July 15. HORSE AND CATTLE. STEALING. The three Sheep advertised in the Police Gazette of the 15th instant as supposed to have been stolen from South Taun- ton, Devon, have been found and restored to the owner.— Bow- street, July 17. Found on the 4th instant, and supposed to have been stolen, a dark brown Mare, aged, about 15 hands high, white spot on forehead and back, and shod all round.- Information to be given to Sergeant Wm. Beeston, Police Station, Newport, Salop,— Bow- street, July 15. Supposed to have been stolen on the 5th instant, from a field near the ' Warren House' inn, in the parish of Woking- ham, a red milch Cow, • Devon breed, short horns, and rather short legs, about 4 or 5 years old, has two long worts on the off front udder, and in fair condition. Information to be given to Superiiiiendent O'Neill, Berks Constabulary Station, Wokingham.— Bow- street, July 15. Supposed to have been stolen from a field adjoining the road near the Newton Abbot Railway Station, Devon, between 10 p. m. on the 10th and 6 a. m. on the 11th instant, a bright bay hack Mare, 14j hands high, about 6 or 7 yearaiold, has a black stripe through centre of back, black legs, mams, and tail, a white spot on back, under the saddle ; also a- black cart Horse, about 7 years old, 15 hands high, white star in forehead, off hind foot white, and has very coarse hair; . both in good condition ; the property of Mr. J. S. Cull, timber merchant, & c., Station- road, Newton Abbot, Devon, who, will pay a reward of £ 10 if stolen, to any person or persons giving such information as will lead to the recovery of the horses, and conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent J. H. Baird, Devon Constabulary, Paignton, Devon, or to Sergeant Samuel Wellington, Police Station, Newton Abbot, Devon.— Bow- street, July 16. Supposed to have been stolen from a field in the parish of Feckenliam, on or about the 9th instant, a mouse- coloured Mare, 5 years old, 14 hands high, a black stripe down the back, and a wart near the navel; the property of Mr. Fortenham. Information to be given to John Bevan, Superintendent of Police, Bromsgrove, Worcestershire.— Bow- strest, J- ily 13. Supposed to have been stolen from a field at Bloxwich, in the borough of Walsall, on or about the 29th ultimo, a dark brown nag Mare, 14. hands high, a small lump on back, and the hair off the hocks. Information to be given to the Ser- geant of Police, Bloxwich, or to the Chief Superintendent at Walsall.— Bow- street, July 13. Supposed to have been stolen, about 5 a. m. on the 9th instant., from a field at Oatlane, near Huddersfield, Yorkshire, the property of Mr. E. Singleton, farmer, a very dark brown Mare, freckled, i hlackY' and brown, 3 years old, 15 hands high, two broad teeth, small white star on forehead, right hind fetlock partly white, brown nose ; a nanberry has been taken off one of the forelegs near the chine, scarcely discernible. She is rather light in the legs, likely for running a car, and is newly shod. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Heaton, West Riding Constabulary, Huddersfield, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, July 13. Between 11 p. m. on the 7th and 5 a. m. on " the 8th instant, the ' Condover Arms' inn, in Condover, Salop, was broken and entered, and the following articles stolen there- from : five silver Tea Spoons, marked • J. W.', plain pattern ; six ditto, plain; a ditto, marked ' E. T.'; a ditto, fluted ; three ditto, basket of flowers on bowl, ' M.' on handle ; two ditto, small plain ; a Caddy Spoon, fluted ; a pair of Sugar Tongs, plain ; £ lb- of Tobacco, made up in papers; a bottle of French Brandy, bottle marked '" Cognac'; about a pint of Rum in black bottle ; a quantity of small Keys; and a small Model of Tong Castle, about an inch square. Information to be given to Sergeant I, Lear, Dorrington, Salop.— Bow- street, July 13. Description of ALBERT POTTER, of Old Buckenham, Norfolk, drover, who is charged on a warrant with stealing a Lamb, at the parish of Fornham St. Martin, Bury St. Edmund's, on the 27th ultimo : about 22 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, sallow complexion, no whiskers, and very short neck ; dressed in a long drab- coloured coat, black cloth cap, and cord trousers. He is well known by the drovers attending Norwich, Ipswich, and Bury Markets. Information to be given to Inspector Arthur Roberts, Police Office, Bury St. Edmunds, Suffolk.— Bow- street, July 13. Description of JOHN FRIGHT, charged on a warrant with having in the parish of Minster, Isle of Thanet, county of Kent, during the night of the 9th instant, stolen from a meadow, a gelding Donkey, since recovered, the property of Mr. George Harnett: he is 19 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, light brown hair, blue eyes, fair complexion, freckled face; dressed in dirty cord trousers, fustian jacket, cloth cap, with a tassel and peak, and heavy boots. He is supposed to be a native of Dover or the neighbourhood, and is a deserter from the Cape Mounted Rifles. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Stokes, Kent Constabulary, Sandwich.— Bow- July 13. Supposed to have been stolen from a field adjoining the road near the Newton Abbot Railway Station, Devon, between 10 p. m. on the 10th and 6 a. m. on the 11th instant, a bright bay hack Mare, 14| hands high, about 6 or 7 years old, has a black gash on centre of back, black legs, and white spot on back under the saddle ; also a black Cart Mare, about 7 years old, 15 hands high, white star in the forehead, off hind foot white, and very coarse hair, the property of Mr. J. Baird, Par- gister, or to Sergeant Samuel Wellington, Police Station, Newton Abbot, Devon.— Bow- street, July 13. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Absconded, charged with embezzling various sums of money, the property of his master, Mr. Coppin, baker, High- street, Clapham : a man, 46 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, fair complexion, dark hair, whiskers, and moustache ; dress, light alpaca coat, light vest, light cord trousers, dark wide- awake hat.— Metropolitan Police, V Division, July 17. Absconded, 9th instant, from 24, Percy- street, Tottenham - court- road, embezzling various sums of money, received by him on account of his employer, Madame Berand. The traveller, 30 years of age, 5 feet' 5 inches high, fair complexion, thin long face, auburn hair, no whiskers, blue eyes; dress, dark short coat, trousers, vest, and hat ( mourning band).— Metropolitan Police, E Division, July 17- a black cloth frock Coat, with black covered buttons, two pockets in skirts, and one in left breast; a pair of Boots, men's size, with elastic sides ; a cameo Brooch, with figures of a female and dove set in ; and a gold plated reversible Brooch, with a female's likeness on one side, and set with hair on the other. By JOHN WINTER, a lodger, who absconded on the 15th instant: lie is a labourer, and a native of Hulme, Man- chester, about 45 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, fresli Absconded from Bishop's Castle, Salop, on the 4th ult., | compiexion, light brown hair and whiskers, inclined to be charged with stealing a Cart, the property of Herbert Home, innkeeper : JOHN HOME, a navvy, about 35 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, stout made, dark complexion, dark hair and whiskers ; dressed in a brown cloth overcoat lined with plaid flannel, grey mixture trousers, and black billycock hat ; he sometimes works in brickworks, and is supposed to be at present working at Festiniog, near Carnarvon. Information to be given to Sergeant Scale, Bishop's Castle, Salop, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Boio- street, July 17. Absconded [ from Coventry, on the 13th instant, charged • with stealing two silver lever Watches, and six Sovereigns, CHARLES SMITH, watch finisher, 22 years of age, 6 feet 2 or 3 inches high, dark complexion and hair, when walking turns out his right foot; dressed in black coat, velvet collar, light vest and trousers, black billycock hat. The watches are of the following description : one f- plate, engine- turned cases, maker John Thompson, Coventry ; the other 14 size, engine- turned cases, shield and garter on the outside case, and marked ' S. P.' on the inner case. Information to be given to Mr. John Norris, Chief of Police, Coventry.— Bow- street, July 17. ). Description of a man and woman who, on the 14th instant, called at several tradesmen's shops in Salisbury, and ordered goods to large amounts, and stated that they would call again during the day for them. At one shop they stole about 46J yards of brown Silk. The man is about 46 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, dressed in dark clothes, high- crowned hat, thin features, dark sallow complexion, whiskers cut short, and of military appearance ; the woman is about 42 years of age, short and stout, very dark complexion; dressed in a light print dress, black straw bonnet trimmed with dark green ribbon, and carried a black leather bag in her hand. Information to be given to Mr. C. Caldow, Superintendent of City Police, Salisbury, Wilts. — Bow- street, July 17. Absconded, about 10 a. m. on tile 14tli instant, from the service of L. Trafford, Esq., St. Catherine's- terrace, Guildford, Surrey : the servant boy, 16 years of age, about 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, very thin, sun freckled face, and light com- plexion ; dressed in dark trousers, light slop with band at bottom, and cap fitting tight to the head with peak split in front: stealing three Shirts, two Collars, a Necktie, two pairs of Stockings, and £ 1 10s. in. money. He is supposed to have gone to Portsmouth. Information to be given to Mr. Super- intendent G. Vickers, Tuns Gate Police Station, Guildford, Surrey.— Bow- street, July 17. Absconded from Tunstall, in the Staffordshire Potteries, stealing and taking with them a Cashmere Shawl, a pair of Stockings, a pair of Gloves, and 10s. in silver Money, a man and woman : the man is about 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, light complexion, and light hair, which is long and straight behind ; stated that he was a collier : the woman is about 30 years pf age, short, and of slender make. Informa- tion to be given to Mr. Superintendent Povey, Burslem ; to Inspector Scott, Tunstall; or at any of the Constabulary Stations in the county of Stafford.— Bow- street, July 17. Absconded about 9 a. m. 13th instant, from the service of William Smith, ' Griffin' public- house, Holywell- st., Shore- ditch, stealing £ 7 10s. in Gold and Silver. The potman, 19 years'of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, fresh complexion, oval face, dark hair, good teeth ; dress, black trousers, brown knitted rest, side- spring boots and cap.— Metropolitan Police, H Divi- sion, July 17. Stolen on the 20th instant, from a gentleman's house in Park- terrace, Glasgow, the following articles, viz.: A gentleman's patent lever gold Watch, plain cases, ' Robert, Barclay, No. 1,' engraved on the works, white china dial. A lady's gold chased lever Watch, cold dial, maker ( sup- posed) Robert Gray and Son ; a lady's gold' chased lever Watch, made about 45 years ago, gold dial, no minute hand. An oriental pearl Necklace. A pearl Brooch, sprig pattern. A pearl Brooch, set in gold. A gold carbuncle Bracelet, set with carbuncles. A cameo Brooch. A gold Brooch, with emerald in centre. A set of turquoise Studs, set in gold. A silver Card Case. 2 ladies' gold Neckchains. A gold Pin, with bird's claw holding a pearl. A small cameo stone Brooch, set in gold. A small shell cameo Brooch. 2 gold Rings, with blood stones. A gold Shirt Link, and a silver ditto, Both marked ' R. B.' 4 silver- plated Corner Dishes. 4 Tops of plated Covers. A pair of short leather Boots, with five brass eyelets, and four brass hooks on each side, and plain leather toe- pieces. A large quantity of gold Rings, Brooches, and other Trinkets. A brace of old flint Pistols, smooth bore, hair trigger, supposed maker, Findlay, Paisley. 2 gold Rings, one with two white stones and a number of smaller ones, the other with a reddish stone, marked « E. O.,' both carved. A black velvet Shooting Coat, lined with twilled silk, pockets in skirt, bound with braid round the cuffs, about half worn, and a little faded in colour. Two young men are in custody, who had in their possession a number of other articles, stolen at the same time ; a third man, named DAVID CHRISTIE, has absconded with the property before described : he is about 26 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, stoutly built, thin face, thin whiskers underneath chin, dark brown hair; dressed in a blue pilot cloth monkey jacket, with white canvas slop underneath, dark trousers, dark cloth cap, with spots of iron ore through it, and may be wear- ing some of the stolen property: was a private in the 60th Rifles, under the name of David Lawson, and was discharged about two years ago, for incorrigible bad behaviour. Police officers are requested to make every search and enquiry, with a view to the apprehension of the above person, and recovery of the stolen property. £ 10 reward will be paid for the recovery of the property, or In proportion to the value recovered. In- formation to be given to Mr. James Smart, Chief Constable, Central Police Chambers, Glasgow— Bow- street, July 17. Stolen from the dwelling- house of Robert Hallhouse, Chetwode- street, Monks Coppenhall, in the county of Chester, sandy, and has lost two or three of his front teeth ; dressed in dark brown monkey jacket, much worn, dark cloth tweed trousers and vest, very dirty and much worn, a red, white, and green plaid scarf, cotton checked shirt, clogs, which are patched at the toes, and brown cloth cap with peak, and is supposed to be wearing the stolen coat and boots. He stated that he should go to Liverpool in search of work. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Laxton, Nantwich; or to Inspector Wilson, Constabulary Station, Crewe, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, July 17. Description of a tramp committed to take his trial at the next assizes for the county of Salop, charged with felony, JOHN DYCHE, native of Burton- on- Trent, a cooper, states that his father lives at Birmingham, who is also a cooper ; he is 20 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, fresh complexion, hair brown, grey eyes, oval visage ; dress, old blucher boots, dark mixture coat, vest, and trousers, an old light plush sap with peak, he had in his possession a pair of old woollen cord trousers. It is supposed that he has committed offences elsewhere or has been previously convicted. Information to be given to Mr. Baxter, Superintendent, Church Stretton, or to P. C. ( No. 23) Benjn. Roden, Acton Scott, near Church Stretton.— Bow- street, July 17. Description of three tramps charged with stealing from the union workhouse, at Penistone, in the West Riding of Yorkshire, on the night of the 8th instant, seven pairs of Blucher Boots ( four pairs of which have been recovered). One, stated that he had served in the militia, but was dis- charged in consequence of being rather deaf, about 25 or 26 years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches high, light complexion, light brown hair, ginger whiskers on chin ; dressed in dark cloth cap, dirty round jacket, dirty waistcoat very much torn, and light trousers. Another, stated that he came from Preston, in Lancashire, he spoke the Lancashire dialect, about 26 or 27 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, dark com- plexion, dark brown hair cut short, no whiskers; dressed in dark cloth cap, dark mixture suit, coat bound with braid and pockets outside. And the other, a striker, 27 or 28 years of age, dark complexion, sullen countenance, slender make, dark hair and whiskers all round face but thin ;. dressed in a large velvet coat, the remainder of his clothes greasy and very shabby. They are supposed to be each wearing a pair of the stolen boots, which are rather broad in the sole and low heels.
