Notice.— It ia requested that all communications for the pur- pose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may hear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to MR. W. D. BURNABY, the Editor, Police Court, Bow- street, London, W. C. *„* Whenever it is desired that any person should be iippre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate; of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all tetters addressed to the Editor must he prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from the regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Mall, London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. INFORMATIONS. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen about 10' 15 p. m. 7th instant, from the person of Edward Eves, 289, Albany road, Camberwell, while opposite the Clock Tower, London Bridge, a silver consular lever Watch, jewelled, maker Boswell, Tooley- street, No. 169. Metropolitan Police, M Division, July 13. Stolen, on the night of the 25th ultimo, from a gentleman in the city of Manchester, a gold lever Watch, chronometer balance, gold dial, plain back with shield in centre, maker Jones, Liverpool; had gold curb Chain attached. Any person giving such information as will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders and recovery of the property shall receive £ 5 reward, on application to Captain Palin, Chief Constable, Town Hall, Manchester.— Bow- street, July 13. Stolen about 9' 45 p. m. 5th instant, from the person of Mr. W. Smith, of 60, Coleman- street, City, while in College- street, Camden Town, a silver lever Geneva Watch, No. 10755 and 5117, engraved ' G. C. D.'— Metropolitan Police, S Division, July 10. Stolen from the person of a gentleman in the borough of Beverley, on the 6th instant, a silver Geneva Watch, maker's name Hammond and Son, No. 33360. Information to be given Mr. William Pattison, Chief Constable, Beverley, Yorkshire. — Bow- street, July 8. Stolen from the person of a gentleman, on the Ipswich race course, on the 26th ultimo, a large- sized gold lever Watch, with figured back, No. 5334. £ 5 reward will be paid on the apprehension and conviction of the offender, and recovery of the property. Information to be given to Mr. Mason, Chief Constable, Town Hall, Ipswich.— Bow- street, Jidy 8. Apron, a pair of Bracelets, about 5s, in Silver and Copper, and l^ d.- piece in Silver. Information to be given to John Bevan, Superintendent of Police, Bromsgrove, Worcestershire.— Bow- street, July 10. J Between the hours of 10- a. m. and 6 p. m. on the 7th inst., the dwelling- house of Mr. Thos. Featherstone, of Newsholme, near Howden, was broken arid entered, and the following pro- perty stolen therefrom, viz. : twenty Shillings in silver; two Watches, one a pinchbeck, the other German silver, no glass ; and a pair of Wellington Boots. It is supposed that the robbery was committed by tramps, as an old pair of boots were left upon the premises, and the missing ones are probably being worn by the thief. Information to be given to Mark Green, Superintendent of Police, East Riding Constabulary, Howden, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, July 10. Stolen from the dwelling- house of Joseph Twigg, of May- field, near Ashbourne, which was forcibly entered between 1 and 4 p. m. on the 4th instant, the following property, viz. : A Sovereign. A black cloth Coat and Waistcoat, old- fashioned. A black silk Handkerchief. A red and white ditto, with a hole in it. A red and green ditto, diamond pattern. A brown stuff Dress, women's size. A striped red and green muslin ditto. An old common Winsey ditto, very dirty An old lilac print ditto. A plaid wool and cotten mixture ditto. A Petticoat, lilac stripe round the bottom. A black and green plaid woollen Scarf Shawl. A red plaid worsted ditto. A pair of red kid Gloves. A pair of cotton Stockings. Three old calico Shirts, men's size. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Woollaston and a wart near the navel; the property of Mr. Fortenham. Information to be given to John Bevan, Superintendent of Police, Bromsgrove, Worcestershire.— Bow- street, July 13. Supposed to have been stolen from a field at Bloxwich, in the borough of Walsall, on or about the 29th ultimo, a dark brown nag Mare, 14 hands high, a small lump on back, and the hair off the hocks. Information to be given to the Ser- geant of Police, Bloxwich, or to the Chief Superintendent at Walsall.— Bow- street, July 13. Supposed to have been stolen, about 5 a. m. on the 9th instant, from a field at Oatlane, near Huddersfield, Yorkshire, the property of Mr. E. Singleton, farmer, a very dark brown Mare, freckled black and brown, 3 years old, 15 hands high, two broad teeth, small white star on lorehead, right hind fetlock partly white, brown nose ; a nanberry has been taken off one of the forelegs near the chine, scarcely discernible. She is rather light in the legs, likely for running a car, and is newly shod. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Heaton, West Riding Constabulary, Huddersfield, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, July 13. Description of ALBERT POTTER, of Old Buckenham, Norfolk, drover, who is charged on a warrant with stealing a Lamb, at the parish of Fornham St. Martin, Bury St. Edmund's, on the 27th ultimo : about 22 years of a^ e, 5 feet 5 inches high, sallow complexion, no whiskers, and very short neck ; dressed in a long drab- coloured coat, black cloth cap, and cord trousers. He is well known by the drovers attending Norwich, Ipswich, and Bury Markets. Information to be given to Inspector Arthur Roberts, Police Office, Bury St. Edmunds, Suffolk.— Bow- street, July 13. Description of JOHN FRIGHT, charged on a warrant with having in the parish of Minster, Isle of Thanet, county of Kent,, during the night of the 9th instant, stolen from a meadow, a gelding Donkey, since recovered, the property of Leek; Inspector Crisp, Uttoxeter ; P. C. Wood, May field ; or fr. George Harnett: he is 19 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, at any Police Station in Staffordshire— Bow- street, July 10. ^ hi brown hair, blue oyes, i , y* i « , freckled face; BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Between 11 p. m. on the 7th and 5 a. m. on the 8th instant, the ' Condover Arms' inn, in Condover, Salop, was broken and entered, and the following articles stolen there- from : five silver Tea Spoons, marked • J. W.', plain pattern ; six ditto, plain ; a ditto, marked ' E. T.'; a ditto, fluted ; three ditto, basket of flowers on bowl, ' M.' on handle ; two ditto, small plain ; a Caddy Spoon, fluted ; a pair of Sugar Tongs, plain; J lb. of Tobacco, made up in papers; a bottle of French Brandy, bottle marked ' Cognac'; about a pint of Rum in black bottle ; a quantity of small Keys; and a small Model of Tong Castle, about an inch square. Information to be given to Sergeant J. Lear, Dorrington, Salop.— Bow- street, July 13. Between the hours of 5 and 9 p. m. on the 5th instant, the dwelling- house of John Hughes, of Pentre, Llanrhaiadr, near Denbigh, was broken and entered, and the following articles stolen therefrom : a brown cloth mixture Jacket, bound with braid, with a small velvet collar ; a pair of black cloth Trou- sers ; a pair of brown cloth mixture Trousers, stripe down the sides, and pieced on the fork and one, side ; a black Vest, much worn; two silk Handkerchiefs, one lilac and white, the other brown and white ; a rough Towel ; a pair of Wellington Boots, recently soled ; a pair of half Boots, with brass eyelet holes, and patched on the sides. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Edw. Pugh, Denbigh.— Bow- street, July 10. During the night of the 6th instant, the dwelling- house of William Hughes, of Upton Warren, was broken and entered, and the following property stolen therefrom, viz.: a black Dress Coat with covered buttons, a black Frock Coat, a pair of dark brown Trousers, a pair of light brown ditto, a black Waistcoat, a drab ditto, a light check ditto, a red and green scarf Shawl, a red and white silk Handkerchief, a white silk ditto, a blue and green neck Scarf, a brown Skirt, a black On the night of the 7th instant, or early the following morning, the workshop of Mr. Nicholls, of Castle- street, Shrewsbury, wood turner, was broken and entered, and a quantity of tools stolen therefrom, which have since been re- covered ; supposed by a man of the following description : about 45 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, dark complexion, and dark hair and whiskers; dressed in a rough pilot jacket, and boots cut up the front. Information to be given to Mr. Hughes, Chief Constable, Borough Police Office, Shrewsbury. — Bow- street, July 10. During the night of the 6th instant, the lock- up shop of Mr. Watson, Leeds, was broken and entered, and the following property stolen therefrom ; six light printed cotton Shirts, fancy patterns ; two dozen silk Scarfs, fancy pattern ; and three dozen twilled silk Handkerchiefs, white grounds, red and green flowers around the border, and of good quality.— Bow- street, July 8. During the night of the 3rd instant, the house of Miss Kingdom, of Brentwood, was broken and entered, and the following property stolen therefrom, viz.: 2 silver Table Spoons, marked ' J. A. H.' 2 silver Salt Spoons, marked ' H.' 2 silver Forks, marked ' J. A. II.' 2 silver Dessert Spoons, marked ' J. A. H.' 1 silver Fork, marked ' K.' 1 pair of silver Sugar Tongs, old fashioned, marked ' A. E. II.' 6 silver Tea Spoons, two marked ' G.', one ' J. A. H.', one ' C. B.', and the other two plain. 1 Paper Knife, fawns- foot handle. 1 brown silk Umbrella, torn. 1 common Seal, engraved with a heart and dart, and motto ' Break it not.' Information to be given at the Constabulary Station, Brent- wood, Essex.— Bow- street, July 8. During the night of the 5th instant, the dwelling- house of Richard Harris, Esq., of Knighton, near Leicester, was broken and entered, and the following property stolen therefrom, viz.: an electro- plated Tea Urn, with Spirit Lamp attached, en- graved with the crest of a dove with olive branch on each side, and the motto ' Virtute et opera'; an electro- plated Castor Stand, for sauces ; a silver Castor Stand, containing seven Bottles, ( the mustard pet and spoon, and the top of the two pepper cruets, marked ' R. H.'; eighteen large Knives, and eighteen small ditto, with silver handles, marked ' R. H.'; and a small silver Salt Spoon, marked ' R. II.' Also, on the same night, the dwelling- house of Mr. Henry Spencer, of Knighton, near Leicester, was broken and entered, and five old- fashioned silver Tea Spoons, and a silver Caddy Spoon, marked ' J. C.', stolen therefrom. Information to be given to Superinten- dent Thomas Burdett, Aylestone, near Leicester, or at the Chief Constable's Office, Leicester.— Bow- st., July 8. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Found, and supposed to have been stolen, a dark chesnut Mare Pony, 14 hands high, 7 or 8 years old, blind of the off eye, white mark down the face, near hind foot white, and saddle marked. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Kennard, Police Station, East Grinstead, Wiltshire.— Bow- July 13. Supposed to have been stolen from a field in the parish of Feckenham, on or about the 9th instant, a mouse- coloured Mare, 5 years old, 14 hands high, a black stripe down the back, dressed in dirty cord trousers, fustian Jacket, cloth cap, with a tassel and peak, and heavy boots. He is supposed to be a native of Dover or the neighbourhood, and is a deserter from the Cape Mounted Rifles. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Stokes, Kent Constabulary, Sandwich.— Bow- street, July 13. Supposed to have been stolen from a field adjoining the road near the Newton Abbot Railway Station, Devon, between 10 p. m. on the 10th and 6 a. m. on the 11th instant, a bright bay hack Mare, 14| hands high, about 6 or 7 years old, has a black gash on centre of back, black legs, and white spot on back under the saddle ; also a black Cart Mare, about 7 years old, 15 hands high, white star in the forehead, off hind foot white, and very coarse hair, the property of Mr. J. Absconded from Fort Cumberland on the 4th instant, THOMAS McLAUGHLIN, gunner, R. M. A., 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, dark complexion, black eyes, dark brown hair, no whiskers, and probably shaved off his moustache, charged with stealing the following articles, the property of his master :— a suit of black cloth Dress Clothes, a suit of rough Tweed, a light grey Coat and Vest, a pair of striped cloth Trousers, a black cloth Waistcoat, a black cloth round Hat, a pair of patent leather Boots, elastic sides, imitation laces in front, four linen Shirts, three collars, one Jersey, six white Handkerchiefs ( four of them with coloured border, marked ' C. W. F.'), three Neckties, a gold Collar Stud, a plain gold Pin, a ditto set with red stone, a long coloured Carpet Bag, a small Hair Brush with comb, and looking- glass at the back. He is a native of Stonehouse, Devon, and is accompanied by his wife, who has an infant in arms. Information to be given to Mr. Richard Barber, Chief Superintendent of Police, Ports- mouth.— Bow- street, July 13. Th Absconded from Walbrook, in the parish of Sedgley, county of Stafford, MOSES HUGHES, highway collector to the Brierley board of highway surveyors, charged with em- bezzling several sums of money to a large amount, belonging to the said surveyors : he is from CO to 65 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, stoutly built, sallow complexion, bald head, long small grey whiskers, high cheekbones, large nose and mouth, has a habit of compressing his lips, speaks thick, lowers his left shoulder, and generally carries his left hand in his jacket when walking, is of rough appearance, and a brick- maker ; he may be dressed in black or grey clothes, with a mourning band on his hat, and may endeavour to emigrate to Australia and be joined by his friends. It is supposed that he will have a considerable sum of money with him. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Hugh McCrea, Bilston ; or to Sergeant De Costello, Coseley, who holds a warrant for his apprehension ; or at any of the Police Stations in South Staffordshire; or to Mr." Isaac Ryan, Princes End, Chairman to the Board, by whom £ 20 reward will be paid.— Bow- street, July 13. Description of three tramps charged with stealing from the union workhouse, at Penistone, in the West Riding of Yorkshire, on the night of the 8th instant, seven pairs of Blucher Boots ( four pairs of which have been recovered) One, stated that he had served in the militia, but was dis charged in consequence of being rather deaf, about 25 26 years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches high, light complexion light brown hair, ginger whiskers on chin ; dressed in dark cloth cap, dirty round jacket, dirty waistcoat very much torn, and light trousers. Another, stated that he came from Preston, in Lancashire, he spoke the Lancashire dialect, about 26 or 27 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, dark com- plexion, dark brown hair cut short, no whiskers ; dressed in dark cloth cap, dark mixture suit, coat bound with braid and pockets outside. And the other, a striker, 27 or 28 years of age, dark complexion, sullen countenance, slender make, dark hair and whiskers all round face but thin ; dressed in a large velvet coat, the remainder of his clothes greasy and very shabby. Absconded from Bournemouth, near Christchurch, Hants, on the 4th instant, charged with stealing a Cart and a set of Harness, the property of Richard Butler, marine store dealer, of Christchurch, which has been recovered, ALFRED ARCHER, a labourer, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, slightly made, fresh complexion, dark brown hair and eyes, small sandy whiskers; dressed in a black rusty coat, light vest, light corduroy breeches and gaiters, blucher boots, and a black deerstalker hat: is a native of the Isle of Purbeck, Wareham, Dorset, and is frequently in company with low horse dealers. Stolen from a dwelling- house at the borough of Walsall, on the 8th instant, an old- fashioned silver verge Watch, makers name ' Dumbell and Sons, Wolverhampton, No. 8074,' a pair of black cloth Trousers, a black pilot cloth Vest, a pair of blucher Boots with brass holes, a black billycock Hat, a red and yellow Handkerchief, and 18s. 6d. in Silver. By an Irish- man, 20 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches in height, dark com- plexion, black hair cut short behind, tip of his nose turned upwards ; is supposed to be wearing the stolen clothing. Stolen, about 9.30 p. m. on the 4th instant, from No. 25, South- street, Chelsea, the property of Mr. Hill, a silver open face Watch, makers Slow and Self, ' Charles Andrews, 1827,' engraved on the case. By a female, 35 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, dark hair and complexion ; dressed in black alpaca dress, black bonnet trimmed with crape, and black cloth boots.— Metropolitan Police, B Division, Jidy 10. By a man, about 35 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, dark complexion, hair, and whiskers ( long), dressed in dark clothes and hat.— Metropolitan Police, E Division, July 10. FRAUDS AND AGGRAVATED MISDEMEANOURS. Description of WILLIAM IVEY, commercial traveller, with drapery goods, who is charged with obtaining a Horse by false pretences at Farnham, on the 20th May last : about 37 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, rather round- shouldered, dark complexion, long featured, and black hair and whiskers ; dressed when last seen in a drab coat, black trousers and vest, and black hat. Further particulars respecting RICHARD JONES, who was advertised in the Police Gazette of the 24th ultimo : it has been ascertained that his real name is DAVID EDWARD MORGAN, and that he has been previously convicted of fraud at Carmarthen quarter sessions, in October, 1860, in the name of David Morgan, and sentenced to eight months' imprison- ment ; and again tried at Carmarthen, for fraud, July 5th, 1861, by the name of David Edward Morgan, and acquitted ; again tried on 12th July, 1861, for fraud, at Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire, and acquitted ; he is well known at Maohyn- lleth. North Wales, having been six times apprehended there for different offences, and convicted twice between September 5th, 1842, and May 7th, 1857. He is about 38 years of age, 5 feet 6| inches in height, with light brown hair, full sandy whiskers, grey eyes, oval visage, long scar in the centre of his forehead, a dent in back of neck, inclined to the left side, mole on back of right shoulder, mark on left side of his belly speaks both Welsh and English fluently, can read and write well, and stated that he had a wife living at New- inn, Vale of Neath, Glamorganshire, and that he intended going to Machyn- lleth, via Aberdovey ; dressed in a plaid suit, black round hat, light boots, quarters appear to be made of kid. The other person is still at large, who is about 22 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, pale complexion, long features, 110 whiskers, brown hair, and dressed in a white linen slop, corded trousers and dark vest, both very dirty, black cloth cap, and clogs ; he is a Welshman, and speaks with a strong Welsh accent. He was traced to Middlewich, and from there in the direction of Holmes Chapel, where he took the train for Man- chester ; he had in his possession at the time the silver Geneva Watch, No. 15256, silver face with gold figures, with a black worsted Guard and common Key attached ; he is a collier, and is supposed to be working in the neighbourhood of Manchester, Ashton, or Dukinfield. A new white cotton Shirt, man's size, linen wristbands, rounded at corner, linen breast, three broad plaits in breast, with two pearl buttons, a plain cotton band for collar about three inches broad, with two pearl buttons. A white cotton Shirt, with linen breast, collar, and wrist- bands, three plaits in breast, centre one has a row of stitching on each side, three pearl buttons in breast, a linen stand- up Collar, with sharp points. A new white cotton Shirt, man's size, with linen breast and wristbands, three plaits and three pearl buttons in breast, a plain cotton band on neck, about an inch broad, intended for collar, being attached, right wrist- band at one corner has been joined when making. A blue, white, and black knitted Cravat, coarse, and joined in middle with black thread. A red cotton Handkerchief, dotted with small white spots.
