Absconded from Crowle, in the county of Lincoln, charged with shooting at, with intent to murder police constable John Waddingham on the 10th iuat. : WILLIAM. QUICKFALL, - a ' labourer, about 67 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, light ihair, pale face, whiskers turning grey, and is bowlegged ; dressed dn a grey billycock hat, fustian coat, und corded trousers patched • on the knee, had with him a double barrelled gun. £ 60 reward will be paid to any person giving information that will lead to his apprehension. Information to be given to Superintendent Hebditch, epworth, Lincolnshire.— Bow- street, June 13. The hut of Captain Brereton, 81st Regiment, South Camp, Aldershot, was broken aud entered on tbe night of the 6th instant, and the following articles stolen therefrom : a gold signet Ring, bloodstone, with crest - boar's head muzzled rising from a coronet; a set of Studs, gold and turquoise; a breast Pin, fox tooth set in gold ; some plated Forks and Spoons, initials ' R. K. B.' on handle ; a black cloth evening Suit; two black morning cloth Coats with Vests ; a black frock Coat with :- ilk facings ; a rather worn Suit ot light grey tweed ; two pairs of light Trouseis ; a pair of dark brown ditto ; a light drab Overcoat; more than a dozeu white Shirts; a white flannel Shirt; and a Sheet, all marked ; also a pair of regimental Trousers, new. The clothes made for a person 6 feet 7 inches high. £ 2 reward will be paid on the appre- hension and conviction of the offender or offenders. Between the hours of 9 p. m. on the 3rd, and 6 a. m. the 4th instant, a dwelling- house at lligh Offley, Staffordshire, was broken and entered, and stolen theiefrum : n grey mixture cloth Jacket, man's size, nearly new ; a black rough Overcoat, with red plaid lining ; a white calico Shirt ; and a black billy- cock Iiat. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Bergen, Police Office, Stone, or at any Police Station in the county of Stafford.— Bow- street, June 8. Stolen from the dwelling- house of James Fuller, at Hildeuboro', Tunbridge, on the night of the 4th instant, by meuns of housebreaking : a pair of men's watertight Boots, a pair of boy's lace- up Shoes, a pair of women's elastic- side Boots, a green Dress, a Sheet, a pair of boy's cotton Stockings, u nearly new white Slop, two calico Shirts, ( one boy's, one man's), a quantity of Cheese, Cake, aud 2 lbs. of uncooked Hum. Information to be given to Superintendent Dance, Police Court, Tunbridge, Kent.— Bow street, June 6. Between 8 p. m. on the 31st ultimo and 8 a. m. on tbe lst instant, the shop and house of Mr. John Smalley, No. 7, Penny- street, and the pawnshop of Mr. William Hirst, No. 6, Penny- street, Blackburn, were feloniously broken and entered, by a man of the following description : 22 or 23 years of age, 6 feet 8 inches high, slender make, pale thin face, light hair, Co whiskers ; dressed in rather greasy cotton cord trousers, a cap, and a c « at; speaks the Lancashire dialect, and can be identified. No property has yet been missed from the premises. Information to be given to Chief Constable Potts, Town Hall, Blackburn, Lancashire.— Bow- street, June 6. EOBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. About 12 midnight the 7th inst., as JOSEPH CLARKE, of Haugsman Stone, toll- bar keeper, was passing on the high- way at Oxspring, he was knocked down by two men, and robbed of a silver lever Watch, small size, engine- turned case, point of hour hand broken off, had attached a silver Guard with one link broken, and a new swivel put on lately, No. 18849 and a drill • urse containing a f « w Shillings ; they are of the • following description : one about 37 years of age, 6 feet 9 or 10 inches high, dark hair and whiskers meeting under the chin, stout built, and dressed in a short white smock tied round the waist, and dark- coloured soft billycock hat ; the other about 30 years of age, 6 feet 5 or 6 inches high, slight built, and dressed in a brown velvet shooting jacket, black billycock hat, and supposed to have had breeches and leggingi on. Informa- tion to be given to Superintendent Greenhalgh. West Riding of York Constabulary, Barnsley.— Bow street, June 13. Ah= vonded, ROBERT HALLEY, a native of Perthshire, a wood 1\- rester or hedger, lately residing at Chapel, in the parish of Johnstone and county of Dumfries, charged with an assault and theft : he is about 32 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches hii> h, slender make, dark eyes, thin sharp nose, long thin bands and feet, very dark brown hair, long on back part of head, dark whiskers and moustache, worn long and rough, of smart, active appearance, and walks erect ; generally dressed in a dark tweed coat and vest, and buff- coloured corded trousers, blucher boots, and low crowned felt hat. Information to be given to the Chief Constable of Dumfriesshire.— Bow- strect, June 11. Stolen about 10 p. m. the 2nd instant, from the person of a gentleman, at Hunt's Bank, a gold lever Watch, white dial, a dent on outside case, makers Bunyan Gardner, Manchester, No. 768. Any person giving such information as will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders, and recovery of the watch, shall receive £ 5 reward, ou appli- cation to Captain Palin, Chief Constable, Town Hall, King- street, Manchester.— Bow- street, June 11. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Stolen from the dwelling- house of Mr. Peter Barfoot, of New Barn Farm, Southwick, on the night of the 3rd instant, by means of housebreaking : two old- fashioned silver Table Spoons, one marked.' H. H. I.', the other 4 A. H.', and a pair of boy's lace- up Bo<> ts, tipped, nailed with rouud- headed nails, and very much worn at the ankle. Also stolen on the following night, from the dwelling- house of Ellen Winderbank, of Cosham, by means of housebreaking : a dark tweed shooting Jacket with two outside pocket*, aud one outside breast pocket the left side, and a two- foot Rule in one of the pockets. Supposed to have been stolen on the night of tbe 9th inst., from a field at Chesham, Bucks, a brown Mare, aged, about 13 hands high, bang tail, rather low condition, and rather a Ions; inane, supposed to have ' L' on off shoulder. Supposed to have been stolen on the night of the 9th inst., from a field at Hall Green, Yardley, Worcestershire, a bay nag i Mare, about 16 hands high, aged, wbite hind feet, star on fore- head, a small patch ot white on one forefoot, and has been lately trimmed round the legs. Information to be given to Inspector | Welch, Solihull, Warwickshire.— bow- street, June 13. Stolen on the morning of the 4tli instant, from East Hagbourn, Berks, a chesnut horse Pony, about 0 years old, near 12 hands high, white star on forehead, saddlemark on back, one shoe off fore leg, the property of Thomas Lewis, gipsy. Information to be given to Inspector W. Mausell, Berks Constabulary, Wallingford. — Bow- street, June 11. Supposed to have been stolen on the 7th instant, from a field at Wandon, near Itugeley, a brown Welsh horse Pony, 1 6 years old, about 13 hands high, tail cut square above the hocks. Information to be given to Superintendent Adams, Stafford, or to Sergeant Goddard, Rugeley.— Bow- st., June 11. Supposed to have been stolen during the night of the 2nd instant, from a field at Hope Baggot, a Lamb, ' H. W.' marked in pitch on the right side, dark face, tail cut short. Informa- ' tion to be given to Police Constable Jones, Clee Hill, Salop.— ' Bow- street, June 8. Supposed to have been stolen from a field near North End, Ibstone, Oxon, during the night of the 2rd instant, a half- bred store Sheep, dark legs and face, marked ' B' in a circle on the near hip ( nearly obliterated, the sbeep having been lately washed). If stolen, £ 2 reward will be paid to any person giving such information as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be i given t « Superintendent Seers, Police Station, Watlington, or to Sergeant Davies, Police Station, Stokenchurcb, Oxon.— Boio- street, June 8. • Supposed to have been stolen on the 23rd ultimo, from a field in the neighbourhood of Wrexham, a bay mare Pony in foal, and in low condition ; about 11 or 12 hands high, the left fore foot shod Toughly with clinched nails. The mare was recently purchased at Aber, Carnarvonshire. Information to be given to Superintendent Bradshaw, County Constabulary, Wrexham, Denbighshire, North Wales.— How- street, June, 8. Haw black picked out with green, square hole in basket under left side of front seat, when taken there were no cushions and no whip, tut a case for whip strapped on : last seen in Egliam.— Metropolitan Police, A Division, June 0. EDMUND GROUT, horse dealer, late of Thoydon Gar- non, near Epping, E^ ex, about 20 years of age, 6 feet 6 inches high, dark hair, thin face, and no whiskers; dressed whan last seen on the 1st instant, in a light cloth coat, dark trousers, light wideawaxe hat, aud long lettged boots which he mostly wears outside his trousers: he is charged with stealing a Horse from Epping Forest, on the 31st ultimo, which he sold at Bishop Stortford the same day, and is now in the possession of the police. He is most likely to be in the neighbourhood of Wliitechapel or Leytonstone, aud has a relative at Duornow, Essex. Information to be given to Superintendent Pattisaun, Epping, E- sex, who bolds a warrant for his apprehension.— — Bow- street, June 6. Left at the ' Bell' Inn, Walsall- street, Wednesbury, a dark brown horse Pony, aged, about 12 hands high, has a white stripe down forehead, a white spot on back from saddle mark, and in fa r condition. Supposed stolen by a man having the appearance of a jockey or dealer, who slept there on the night of the 29th ultimo, and obtained £ 2 from tbe landlord under the pretence of paying tor some pigs, and then went away, and has not returned. Information to be given to Superintendent Holland, Police Office, Wednesbury, Staffordshire,— Bow- strut, June 6. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT Description of JOHN SMITH, who absconded from Chelteubam on tbe 11th ultimo, charged with stealing two bushels of Oats, he is 25 years of age, about 5 feet 1U inches high, light hair, small light sandy whiskers, and fresh com- plexion ; he wat loruiery a porter in the employ u. f C'aplin and Home, is a butcher by trade, and has a fattier and mother living at Newton Longville, Bucks, to which place he is sup- posed to have gone. Information to be given to Superintendent Oay, Cheltenham, who holds a warrant for bis apprehension. — Bow- street, June 13. Absconded, charged on a warrant with embezzlement, FRANCIS AUST, 24 yeate of age, 6 feet 6 or 7 inches high, light hair, Blight moustache, ruddy complexion, stuit, broad shoulders; dressed well and sinait. In company with a man. 21 years of age, 5 feet 0 inches high, dark complexion and hair, slight moustache. They are supposed to be leading very loose lives, and are both well known at taverns in towns in the south- eastern, southern, and south- western counties of England, Information to be given to Inspector Hamilton, City of London Police, Detective Department, 20, Old Jewry, E. C.— Bow- street, June 13. Description of WILLIAM ROBINSON, who is charged with stealing a Saddle and Bridle : 18 years of age, 6 feet 3} inches high, sallow complexion, light brown hair, brown eyes, marks of sore on ceutre of brow ; is a native of Knot Mill, Manchester, and was lately employed by a horse dealer, encod- ing horses from fair to tair. Information to be given to tbe Head Constable, Town Hall, Birkenhead, Cheshire.— Bow- street, June 13. Absconded from Rochdale on the 23rd ultimo, ROBERT RILEY CHADWICK, a waiehouBeman, charged on warrant with embezzlement. He is about 32 years of age, S feet 5 or 6 inches high, tresh complexion, dark brown hair, brown eyes, proportionate make, has a small scar on the top of his nose, small moustache, aud tuft of hair on chin; dressed in a blue pilot jacket, pockets outside, bound with broad braid, generally wears a black cloth coat underneath, light mixture trousers and vest, and billycock or low- crowned hat; he is of smart and respectable appearance, and fond of races and gambling. £ 20 reward will be paid to any person who will give such informa- tion as will lead to his apprehension, at the Borough Police Office, Rochdale.— Bow- street, June 11. Description of CHRISTOPHER HUNT, of Cranbome, who is charged with stealing six Fowls, from Mrs. Loader, of Sutton, in the parish of Gussage St. Michael, Dorset, on tbe night of the 4th instant: about 26 years of age, 6 feet 6 or 7 inches high, fair complexion, sandy hair, large led whiskers and beard; dressed iu black velveteen jacket, cord trousers, black cloth cap with peak, black leather leggings, aDd navvy boots. lie has been working as a navvy and also as a brick- layer's labourer. Information to be given to Superintendent Baynton, Wimborne, Dorset, who holds a warrant for hia apprehension.— Bow- ftreet, June 11. Absconded from Wolverhampton, on the 6th instant, charged with stealing £ 227 in Gold ; a red mixture Carpet- bag ; a pink leather clasp Purse; and a banking account Book of the Wolverhampton and Staffordshire Bank, WILLIAM TAYLOR, about 27 years of age, 6 feet 6 inches high, pale complexion, small light whiskers, tuft of hair on chin; dressed in black cloth dress coat and waistcoat, woollen cord trousers, brown overcoat with velvet collar and side pockets, blue and white scarf, small gold pin with violet- coloured stone, and black billycock hat: worked as a labourer in the Goods Department of the London and North Western Railway at Wolverhampton. £ fi reward will be paid by Mrs. RuBhton, of Southampton- street, Wolverhampton, for his apprehension. By a woman about 63 years of age, 6 feet 4 inches high, dark hair turning grey, and dresaed in a black bonnet, black stuff dress, drab plaid shawl, and elastic- side boots. A warrant has been issued against GEORGE WILLIAM MEWITT, charged with stealing at Brighton on the 6th inst, a black cloth Coat, bound with braid, two pockets behind and breast; a light Coat, pockets on the hips; two pairs of Trousers, one pair dark, the other light; two pairs of Boots, one pair balmorals, the other side- spring ; and other articles. He is of the following description : between 17 and 18 years of age, 5 ffflt 1 inches, high* light complexion and trait, small light blue eyes, heavy expression of countenance ; he absconded from the town on the 6th instant, and is supposed to be wearing some of the stolen property as he left some of his own clothes behind; he left with two ' boys and is supposed to he- making his wav to London. ' Absconded from Northampton on the 1st inst,, charged with embezzling i. 130, belonging to Messrs. frisby, Dyke, and Co. : JOHN WRIGHT, about 22 years of (| ge, about 5feet 6 inches high, fair complexion, brown hair and whiskers meeting under his chin ; dressed in black frock coat or dark tweed jacket, double- breasted black vest with small white spots, and dark tweed trousers; had in his possession a gold Albert drop chain, having attached a gold seal, a gold cross, and a gold open- faced locket, set with a lady's portrait. £ 10 reward will be paid for his apprehension, Information to be given to Chief Con- stable Keenao, Northampton.— Bow- street, June 11. black and white straw hat, dark coat, waistcoat, and trousers, obtained of Mr. Page, the station master at the Linton Railway Station, Is. 2d., by falsely representing thrthe was » direoted to arrange for sending away 100 tons of timber which his master had bought, and that he wanted the money to purchase the horses a feed of hay on their arrival with t he firs load ; lie also calls at public- houses, representing that he is looking for utabling capable of accommodating two ponies belonging to a lady who intends residing in the neighbourhood. Obtained on the 27th ultimo, by false pretences, from Thomas Shepherd, of Button- under- Brailas, Warwickshire, a Horse, Saddle, and Bridle the horse is a bay, about 7 years old, 15 hands high, cropped tail, a little white ou one hind leg and lame of one fore foot. Description of JOHN CAMPBELL, late of Lewes, charged with stealing a Coat on the 28th ult. ( since recovered); 30 yrs. of age, 6 ft. 4J ins. high, It, complexion, blue eyes, browu nair, pro- portionately made, is a labourer, hut formerly a soldier; dressed in a white slop, cord trousers fitting tight and nearly new, aud black hairy cap uithout brim. Information to be given to Superintendent James, Chief Constable's Office, Lewes, or any Police Station in East Sussex.— Bow- street, June 8. Description of a woman charged with stealing, on the 6th instant, from a dwelling- house at Barusley, a black Scarf Shawl, with silk fringe, one corner torn about an inch, and has a mark on it: about 30 years of age, about 5 feet 2 inches high, ruddy complexion, sandy hair, slenderly built, and dressed in black and green plaid frock with front out, old white apron very much patched, old white straw bonnet trimmed with narrow black velvet, and old grey shawl. In- formation to be giveu to Superintendent Greenhalgh, West Riding of Yorkshire Constabulary, Barnsley.— Bow- ttreet, June 8. Description of a man charged with stealing, en the 2nd initant, from an engine- house at Tankersley, the property of George Mosley, engine- driver, a small Clock, about 8 inches high, glass door, bell has been taken out. and brass) plate substituted ; and a Plane, about 8 inches long, grooved ou the bottom from having been worked over nails: about 24 years of age, 5 feet| 6 or 7 inches high, light cumplexion, sandy hair, proportionate built; dressed in black cap with bras* buttons on each side ( as worn by engiue tenders), white slop open in front and out at elbows, black vest, fustian trousers very greasy, and old boots ( one without heel). He stuted that he had run away from South Staffordshire, in company tfith another man, for a ' job' they had been doing there. Absconded on or about the 26th ultimo, stealing silks, chenille Goods and Cash to the amount of £ 3,000, the property of his employers, Messrs. Bertrand and Amy, 16, Watliug- street, during the last five or six months : ERNST HAHN, a German Jew, town traveller, about 45 years of age, stout, black hair and whiskers, small dark eyes, large nose ; generally dressed in black, and ordinary black hat with black hatband. Information to be given to Inspector Hamilton, City of London Police, Detective Office, 26, Old Jewry, EC .- Bow- street, Junc& Stolen from an unfinished house at Goniersal, during the night of the 2nd instant, a joiner's Bass, containing: 2 Hand- saws, 1 Blocker, 1 smoothing Plane, 1 six- inch Square, 6 Prickers, and 2 Hammers, marked ' J. Smith'; 15 Chisels, marked ' D. S.'; 1 Jack Plane, 1 Trying Plane, 1 Smoothing Plane, 2 Handsaws, 1 Tenon Saw, 6 cutting Chisels, 3 Ham- mers, 3 Gouges, and several Prickers marked ' J. C.' By a joiner, 60 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, pale complexion, grey hair and whiskers, stout built, no teeth in front, and bald on top of head; supposed a native of Penistone ; dressed in a small black and blue check shooting coat much worn, black cloth vest, woollen cord trousers, black silk hat, and elastic side boot* Information to be given to the County Police, Dewsbury, Yorkshire.— Bow- ttreet, June 6. Description of EDWARD BROWNING, aheet- iron fitter, a native of Norfolk, committed for trial for felony : he is about 70 years of age, 6 feet 6 inches high, stout, fresh com- plexion, white hair, whiskers shaved off; dressed in blacu cloth coat and vest, apd light check trousers, and of respectable appearance, A diaper Towel, marked ' R. L. M.', a pearl handled Penknife, ditto Tweezers, two Tea Spoons, a box of Percussion Caps, and a pair of black cloth Trousers were found in his possession, all of which are supposed to be stolen. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Graham, Bedford, Beds. - Boa- street, June 6. Stolen from the dwelling- house of David Whittaker long- street, near Bradford, miner, on the 4th instant: a silver verge Watch, No. 2249, had a brass Guard and common brass Key attached; a silver huntitg verge Watch, No. 18862, makers J. Lettin & Co., London. By a man who had lodged in the house, a labourer, and said he had h en in the army ; he is about 45 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, fresh com- plexion, dark red hair, whiskers and moustache, walks erect, talks a good de,: l about soldiering, and said he had worked about Sheffield; dressed in an old dark brown coat, two pockets outside laps, black cloth waistcoat, trousers, and cap with peak, and old shoes.
