The salaries of the Assistant Surveyors were at Summer Assizes, 1862, increased to the yearly sum of 80/. each. The County purveyors are not prohibited from engaging in private practice; but the Grand Jury, on raising the salaries of the Assistants, intimated to them that they would expect that they should devote their whole time to the public duties of their office, although no specific order to that effect was made.
