THE Police Gazette, OB HUE- AND- CRY. Published for Ireland on evc* y Tuesday ?, nd F day. All Notices intended for insertioil in the Hue- and Cry, are to be transmitted under cover addressed to the Inspector- General of Constabulary ( the words Hue- Uld- Cry to be written on the left hand corner of the Envelope). No Description can be inserted unless an Information shall have been Sworn; but it is not necessary to forward the Informations to the Inspector- General. As the Law ( 48 Geo. 3, c. 140, s. 44,) only permits the insertion of Notices respecting Felonies, no other description of Notice can be inserted in the Hue- and- Cry. DUBLIN, TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 24, 1863. Scottish Police. WANTED, for having on the night of Saturday, the 14th instant,' assaulted and stabbed to the danger of life of Edward Dean Hammerman, residing in Jeffray's Close, Glasgow: Edward Carey, a shoemaker, but sometimes works as a labourer, about 25 years ot age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, freckled face, fair complexion, heavy eyebrows, small whiskers on upper part of cheek, a cut running from bottom of nose across to middle of lelt cheek, a wart on left jaw, a number of pimples under chin and about neck, brown hair, pretty long, straight nose; dressed in white moleskin trowsers, blue vest, blue monkey jacket, and a blue cloth cap, with peak; a native either of Belmullet or Dudding, both in the county of Mayo. It is requested that everything be done to apprehend the said Edward Carey, and that any information concerning him be communicated to the Chief Constable of this city. STOLEN between the hours of five and six^ o'clock, p. m., 10th instant, about thirteen or fourteen gold Albert chains, eight lcng gold chains, two gold brace- lets, one a plain buckle, tbe other a plain band, orna- mented with a circle of vine loaves, in tho centre of which is the representation of e bunch of grapes in small coral ; all are fine gold. A case containing about three dozen of ladies' gold finger rings, sotue of them half hoop turquoise, half hoop opals, one of which is set with thr° e opals, one of the opals cracked, one half hoop ruby. Several others are set with pearls and turquoise in a cluster of four, with one in centre. Information to Superintendent Daniel Ryan, Lower Castle- yard, Dublin. 11th February, 1863. WHEREAS it has been represented to the Lord Lieutenant, that about the hour of 5 o'clock, on the afternoon of the 3rd of June, 1862, William J. H. Moreland, Esq., was fired at on the public road at Poulagour, in the barony of Tulla Upper, and county of Clare, by some person at present unknown. His Excellency, for the better apprehending and bringing to justice the perpetrators of this outrage, is pleased hereby to offer a reward of £ 100 to any per- son or persons who shall, within six months from the date hereof, give such information as shall lead to the arrest of the person or persons who com- mitted the same. By His Excellency's command, THOS. A. LARCOM. The above reward will be paid by William O'Hara, Esq., the Resident Magistrate at Tulla, to those who may become entitled to it under the conditions of this Proclamation. DESCRIPTION of Thomas Grady, native of Derryna- veigh, who stands charged with having, on the night of the 6th instant, in the barony of Tulla Lower, parish of Clorelea, stolen three sheep, respectively the pro perty of James Crowl and Martin Neal:— is 25 years of age, 5 feet 11 inches high, stout make, fair com- plexion, round face, grey eyes, regular nose ; wore a jim- crow hat, frieze frock coat, faded tweed trowsers, and strong shoes. DESCRIPTION of Robert John M'Vickers, native of Baltarshan, Londonderry, who stands charged with having, on the night of 14tb, or morning of 15th in- stant, in the barony of Orrery and Kilmore, parish of Buttevant, deserted from the 18th regiment of foot, taking with him his rifle, 120 rounds of ball cartridge, his clothing, and necessaries, together with his blanket and rug; also with having, on same night, fired at Peter Brennan, waiter in tbe canteen at Buttevant, which, it is supposed, he intended to rob. A warrant has been issued for bis arrest:— 23 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, stout make, light complexion, round face, blue eyes, Roman nose, light brown hair; wore regimental coat, regimental trowsers. WHEREAS it has been represented to the Lord Lieutenant, that on the night of the 17th instant, Mr. John Cussen was fired at and wounded at his residence at Ballyfokeen, in the barony of Connelloe, in the county of Limerick, by some person at present unknown. His Excellency, for the better apprehending and bringing to justice the perpetrator of this outrage, is pleased hereby to offer a reward of £ 100 to any per- son who shall, within six months from the date here- of, give such information as shall lead to the arrest of the person who committed the same. WHEREAS information has reached the Government that Patrick Ross and James Ross, charged with the murder of John Corrigan, and with firing at and wounding his wife, Mary Corrigan, near Malkagh, in the barony of Longford, and county of Longford, on the 20th April, 1862, and who have not as yet been arrested, have been concealed, and are harboured, received, and concealed, and assisted and aided in several parts of the country since the said murder: Now, His Excellency the Lord Lieutenant is pleased to offer a reward of £ 100 to any person or persons who shall, within six months from the date hereof, give such information as shall lead to the ah- est of any one whomsoever who has, since the said murder, knowingly harboured, or received, or con- cealed, or assisted or aided in any way whatever in their eacape from arrest, tlio said Patrick Ross and James Ross. DESCRIPTION of said Pat Ross and James Ross:— Patrick, 35 years of age, 5 feot 7 inches high, stout make, sallow complexion, thin face, gray eyes, sharp nose, cut on his lip, brown hair; wore a gray frieze coat, cord trowsers, dark vest; wore a jim crow hat. Will try to escape to America. James, 25 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, slight make, dark complexion, thin face, gray eyes, regular nose, black hair; wore a dark frieze frock coat, cord trowsers, dark tweed vost; wore an old dark cloth cap. DESCRIPTION of William and Anne Power, who stand charged with having, on the 19th instant, in the barony of Ardagh, parish of Mostrim, procured £ 1 from Rose Maguire, under the pretence of coining £ 5 for her:— 1. 25 years of age, 5 feet 11 inches high, ordinary make, sallow complexion, dark lace, long nose, brown hairl wore a blackish frock coat, black trowsers, reddish ! vest,? cloth cap, dark color, and thin; either a tinker or bell- nangor, carries a budget. 2. 25 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, stout make, red complexion, fair face, regular nose, black hair; wore a muslin cap, a green plaid gown, a black cloth mantle with large cape, red cross- striped petticoat; is slightly pockmarked, and carries a male child about 14 months old; is large in the family way; supposed to be wife of No. 1. DESCRIPTION of Thomas Farrell, native of Tully- vrone, who stands charged with having, on the 12th January, 1863, in the barony of Rathcline, parish of Rathcline, violently assaulted Honor Farrell, his sister- in- law, with a blow of a stone, from the effects of which she lies ill:— is 23 years of age, 5 feet 6£ inches high, slender make, sallow complexion, long face, brown eyes, sharp nose, brown hair; wore a dark tweed coat, turned trowsers, turned vest; has a mark of an old cut on the nose; and has friends living, named Fox, near Ballymahon. WHEREAS Michael Hayes, who is charged with having murdered Mr. John Waller Braddell, on the 80th of July, 1862, in the town of Tipperaiy, has hitherto evaded arrest. His Excellency the Lord Lieutenant is pleased hereby to offer a reward of £ 300 to any person or persons who shall, within one month from the date hereof, give such information as shall lead to the arrest of the said Michael Hayes. And His Excellency is further pleased hereby to offer a reward of £ 100 to any person or persons who shall, within three months from the date hereof, give such information as shall lead to the arrest of any one whomsoever who has, since the said murder, knowingly harboured or received, or concealed, or assisted, or aided in any way whatsoever, the said Michael Hayes in his escape from arrest. By His Excellency's command, THOS. A. LABCOM. The above rewards will be paid by any Resident Magistrate or Officer of the Constabulary. DESCRIPTION of said Michael Hayes:— ' 60 years of age, 6 feet high, stout make, dark sallow complexion, large heavy face, dark eyes, rather long nose, black, a little gray hair; wore a black frieze body coat, knee breeches, black stockings, Caroline hat; stooped shoulders, and a heavy slovenly gait when walking; has a down look; very heavy eyebrows, somewhat gray ; bald on the crown of tbe head, with a few stray bairs on it; several of his front teeth out; high cheek bones and sunken jaws; end altogether a remarkable at d an ill- looking man. He may probably assume a disguise, such as a wig, moustache, false teeth, and black coat, & c. Cappamore, 3rd August, 1802. ( B. 10071— 10283.) DESCRIPTION of nine sheep, the property of Thomas Kelly, which were stolen off the lands of Kilcarroon, parish of Shanrahan, barony of Iffa and Offa West, on the night of the 17th February, 1863, viz.:— Nine white wethers, 4 years old next May, marked with the letters T. K. on the right side, and one ot tbem having short ears; they were each value lor £ 1 10s. Also four sheep marked T. Westmeath. £ 20 REWARD WHEREAS, on the morning of the 8th instant, Thomas Booth, Esq., received a Rockite letter through the Kilbeggan post office, warning him " to desist from taking any further proceedings against his ten- ants." And whereas, on the morning of the 13th instant, Mr. Booth, received another Rockite letter through the same post office, and in the same handwriting, threatening his life should he not discontinue his proceedings. i I hereby offer a reward of £ 20 to any person who shall, within six months from the date hereof, give such information as shall lead to the arrest ot the person or persons concerned in writing or sending the letters in question. DESCRIPTION of Patt M'Ginness and Christopher Mulreedy, natives ot Moate, who stand charged with having, on the night of the 12th February, 1863, in the barony of Clontonon, parish of Kilcleagh, assaulted Peter Fielding, from the effects of which he died on the 13th instant:— 1. 19 years of ago, 5 feet 5 inches high, stout make, sallow complexion, round face, hazel eyes, cocked nose, brown hair; wore a brown frieze coat, cord trowsers, tweed vest, cloth cap, laced boots ; much pock- pitted; is a labourer. | It is supposed he will endeavour to emigrate, therefore the police at sea ports are requested to be on the alert. 2. 20 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, stout make, fresh complexion, round face, blue eyes, short nose, light brown bair; wore an old black cost, cord trowscrs, jim- crow hat, militia boots, blue silk necktie; belongs to the Westmeath Militia ; is a labourer.
