MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. Found on the morning of the 9th instant, in the River Nedder, at the parish of Fugglestone St. Peter, the body of a newly- born male Child, in a state of nudity; the child appeared from medical testimony to have been partly strangled, and then drowned. An inquest was held on the 9th instant, and a verdict of ' WiUul Murder against some person or persons unknown,' returned. Information to be given to Mr. Super- intendent Matthews, Fisherton; or to Inspector G. North, Police Station, Wilton, Wilts.— Bow- street, February 13. Description of a man committed for trial at the next assizes to '•„ held at Lincoln, on a charge of cutting and woy*. . Me gave his name CHARLES ROBERT HENRY JAMES, of Oxford, Clerk, and has been officiating as curate at the parish of South Kelsey for eight or nine weeks, about 56 years of age, 5 feet 4J inches high, iron grey hair, small • whiskers, long thin face very much wrinkled, small dull grey eyes, irregular teeth stained from tobacco, slenderly made, round shouldered, and very shabbily dressed ( not at all like a clergyman) : is very much addicted to drinking and smoking, and is fond of talking about hunting, shooting, fighting, < fcc. It is suspected that he has been previously convicted or is concerned in other offences, probably fraud. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent T. Barsby, County Police Station, Market Rasen, Lincolnshire.— Bow- street, February 11. Description of JAMES CASBOLT, a native of Balsham, Cambridgeshire, who is charged ( with two others, who are in custody), with night poaching and maliciously wounding a gamekeeper, in a wood belonging to General Hall, at Weston Colvill: about 20 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, pale complexion, light brown hair, his ears have been pierced for rings, and he may be wearing a small pair ; dressed, when he absconded, in a blue pilot coat, dark trousers, black cap, and blucher boots. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Charles Yeo, Linton, Cambridgeshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, February 9. Description of JAS. PANGBOURNE, alias WALKER, a carman, charged with causing the death of Chas. Champion, on the 27th of December last, in Nine Elms- lane, Lambeth : 36 years of age, 6 feet 8 or 9 inches high, dark complexion and hair, black whiskers, teeth out in front, round shouldered, he stoops when walking, slouching gait; dress, cord jacket and trousers, or suit of black with black hat, a native of St. Alban's. — Metropolitan Police, V Division, February 4. Absconded from Appleton, in the county of Chester, on the 26th ultimo, charged with stabbing with a knife one John Noon, from the effects of which he is not expected to recover, JAMES MULLIGAN, about 30 years of age, short in stature, stout make, burn mark on the corner of one eye and cheek, one hand wrapped up, said to have a bustian on the finger, dark hair, and dressed in a white slop, with a pea jacket over it; and MICHAEL MULLIGAN, short and stout, young looking, much pockmarked, fresh ruddy complexion, dark hair, and had on a jacket, slop, and light cord trousers; they are both farm labourers. A warrant for their apprehension'is in the hands of Superintendent Andrews, Lymm, near Warrington, Cheshire, to whom information is to be given.— Bow- street, February 2. Description of three men against whom a warrant has been issued^ charging them with having, on the 21st instant, at the parish of Yielding, in the county of Bedford, discharged a gun at Thomas Cook, a game watcher, with intent to do him grievous bodily injury. JOHN DRAPER, of Wimmington, Beds, shoemaker, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, dark brown hair, blue eyes, whiskers inclined to be sandy, and dressed in a light drab long coat, cord trousers, lace- up boots, and, light cap; JOHN DESBOROUGH, of Wimmington, Beds, labourer, about 25 years of age, 5 feet 4 or ARSON AND WILFUL BURNING. On the night of the 20th of December last, a heap of straw in the stackyard of the Manor Farm, at Bury, Huntingdon- shire, was feloniously set fire to, whereby several Stacks of Wheat, Oats, Beans, Rye Grass, and Hay, the property of Mr. John Halls, were totally destroyed. £ 60 reward will be paid to any one giving such information as shall lead to the conviction of the offender or. offenders. Information to be given to Acting Superintendent Hamilton, Ramsey, Hunts.— Bow- street, February 13. On the evening of the 18th instant, some person or persons wilfully set fire to a rick of Hay, the property of Mr. John Packwood, situate near the Fox Gate, in the parish of Broms- grove, whereby the whole was destroyed. £ 100 reward will be paid to any person who shall give such information as shall lead to the conviction of the offenderjor offenders, and in addi- tion thereto, Sir George Grey will advise the grant of Her Majesty's gracious pardon to any accomplice not being the person* who actually set fire to the property, who shall give such evidence as shall lead to the conviction of the guilty party. Stolen on the 9th instant, from the person of Mr. Wilson, 29, Great James- street, a gold hunting Watch, crest— talbot's head, initials ' R. J. A. W.,' a gilt Albert Chain, with gilt florin, branch of coral, and a bright blue ornament attached.— — Metropolitan Police, P Division, February 13. Stolen on the 7th instant, from the person of Mr. Ellwood, 18, Arlington- street, Piccadilly, whilst passing into Drury Lane Theatre, a gold duplex Watch, No. 587, maker Peter Orr.— Metropolitan Police, F Division, February 11. Supposed to have been stolen from the person of a csntie- man, at Reigate, Surrey, on the 5th instant, a gold Watch, enamel face, gold and second hands, makers' Barraud and Sund, 41, Cornhill, No. 2 | 3781. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent C. H. Coward, Surrey Constabulary, Reigate.— Bow- street, February 9. THOMAS DODD and WILLIAM DODD, advertised in the Police Gazettes of December 1st and 26th, 1862, charged with assault and highway robbery at Little Wenlock. in the county of Salop, are still at large. A reward of £ 2 12s. 6d. each will be paid ( upon conviction), to any person who will give such information as shall lead to their apprehension, in addition to all reasonable expenses incurred. Information to be given to Mr. Richardson, Superintendent of Police, Wellington, Salop.— Bow- street, February 6. Stolen about 9.40 p. m. on the 4th instant, from the person of a lad, in the borough of Oldham, Lancashire, by two men, a blue cloth Jacket with small patches of black on both cuffs and left elbow, having a red pocket- handkerchief with white spots in one of the pockets, and a black pilot cloth vest, made to button up to the neck, covered buttons, having a white handled knife with two blades in one of the pockets. Information to be given at the Police Office, Town Hall, Oldham, Lancashire.— Bow- street, February 6. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING Between 12 and 1 p. m. on the 10th instant, the dwelling- house of John Neal, of Whittington, near Lichfield, was broken into during the absence of the family, and the following pro- perty stolen therefrom : a silver verge Watch, No. 6795, and ' John Neal' engraven on the back ; a black cloth Waistcoat a plaid silk Scarf ; and about i,' l in silver. Information to be given to Sergeant Longden, Fazeley, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, February 13. key, and playing two tunes, one of which is the ' Gustavus Galop '; a small ivory carved Box, circular shape, for holding counters ; a glass Letter Weight, with a view of the Albert- bridge ; a plain new pack of Playing Cards, a lot of Spanish and French Coins, a silver Dollar of octagonal shape, a quantity of Shillings, Sixpences, a Solitaire Box and Marbles. Infor- mation to be given to Mr William Vanstone, Superintendent of Borough Police, Bideford, North Devon.— Bow street, Feb- ruary 13. • On the 11th instant, at or about 12 o'clock noon, a house was entered at Westleton, Suffolk, by two tramps, and the following property stolen, viz.: a dark velveteen double- breasted Waistcoat ( back and sleeves drabbet), a quantity of Bread and Cheese, a piece of Pork, and several Currant Cakes. Two men were seen running away from the house in different directions; one of the men has since been apprehended, and the one at large is of the following description: 33 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, light brown complexion whiskers meeting under the chin ; dressed in light drabbet slop, worked on the top like a shepherd's or waggoner's, sometimes wears it down, and at other times up, so as to form a short slop, a dark cap, carried a long stick, and might be wearing the stolen waistcoat, tion to be given to P. C. Joseph Grimwood, East Suffolk - Bow- street, Febrmry 13. Constabulary, Yoxford.- Between the hours of 5 and 8 p. m. on the 8th instant, the dwelling- house of Miss Webster was entered daring the absence of the family, by means of skeleton keys, and the property stolen theiefrom, viz. : six silver Tea Spoons, marked ' T. R. W.'; a pair of silver Sugar Tongs, same mark ; and five electro- plated ditto ; also about six Shillings in copper monies. Information to be given to Mr. J. Thomas, Head Constable, Borough Police Office, Dewsbury, York.— Bow- street, February 11. Betwten the hours of 8 p. m. on the 17th, and 7 a. m. on the 18th instant, during the absence of the family, the house of John Kirk, of Breeze Hill, was broken and entered, and the following articles stolen therefrom : a horizontal Geneva silver Watch, No. 18893, silver dial, and gold figures ; a patent lever silver Watch, No. 1773, with plain back ; a patent lever silver Watch, No. 16308, centre seconds, and sunk dial, and Ta silver link Guard attached ; six silver Teaspoons, marked B. K.'; and about twenty- two or twenty- three Shillings in money. £ 2 reward will be paid to any person who will give such infor- mation as will lead to the apprehension of the thief and re- covery of the property, or in proportion to the amount re- covered, on application to Mr. J. Wetherell, Chief Constable, Oldham.— Bow- street, February 11. Stolen from the dwelling- house of a gentleman at Fair- field, during the night of the 4th or morning of the 5th inst., the following articles, viz.: a silver Butter Knife, with pearl handle; a Box of Mathematical Instruments ; a pearl Paper Knife, the handle in shape of a fawn's foot, and silver mounted. Pawnbrokers and others are requested to detain any person offering the same for pledge or sale. Information to be given at the Police Office, Bootle ; or Old Swan ; or the Central Police Office, Dale- street, Liverpool.— Bow- street, February 9. Further information relative to the burglary at the house of Miss Thompson, at Sevenoaks, on the night of the 2nd instant, and advertised in the Police Gazette of the 4th instant. There was also stolen an Australian gold Ring, with a ruby in it; a small silver Fruit Knife ; and a black single Opera Glass, mounted with silver, and is broken. Absconded from Steeple Barton, Oxon, on the 25th ultimo, charged with breaking and entering the dwelling- house of Thomas Willett, and stealing therefrom £ 7 10s. in gold, CHARLES BAYLIS, 17 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, fair complexion, brown hair, proportionately made, walks erect; when last seen he was dressed in grey tweed stable jacket worn at elbows, corduroy trousers, cloth cap, blue check shirt, and blucher boots much worn, but is sup- posed to be now dressed in new clothes: belongs to the Oxon Militia. He left Heyford Station, on the Great Western Railway, for Paddington on the above date. He is likely to be found at the Artillery Barracks at Woolwich, where he will probably endeavour to enlist. It is requested that police officers make immediate inquiries in garrison towns and camps, and also of recruiting parties in Westminster. Information to be given to Inspector Thorogood, Police Station, Deddington, Oxon, who holds a warrant for his apprehension ; or at any Police Station in Oxon.— Bow- street, February 9. Further information respecting CHARLES BAYLIS, charged with housebreaking at Steeple Barton, Oxon, on the 25th ultimo. Between the hours of 11 p. m. on the Oth, and 7 a. m. on the 7th instant, the dwelling- house and shop of Mr. John Davies, baker and grocer, of Welsh Hampton, near Ellesmere, Salop, « as broken and entered, and t. he following property stolen therefrom : a small Cheese, a Currant Loaf, IJ lbs. of fresh Butter, and a quantity of Peppermint, and other Sweets ; also two calico Shirts, with cloth collars and wristbands. During the night of the 6th instant, the dwelling- house of Mr. Law, maltster, near the railway station, Gray's Thurrock, Essex, was burglariously entered, and the following property stolen : five electro- plated Forks ; a pair of Table Spoons, seven odd Tea ditto, a pair of Salt ditto, and a Dessert, ditto ( all sil- ver) ; a black cloth Dress Coat, lined with silk ; a grey mix- ture Great Coat, witii black silk collar ; a pair of Wellington Boots, nearly new ; a pair of woman's elastic- side ditto ; a pair of boy's Slippers; a pair of child's Shoes ; 1 lb. of Tea ; and a Morocco Purse, containing a Half- Crown and a Shilling in Silver. Information to be given to Inspector Rurledge, Police Station, Orsett, Essex.— Bow- street, February 9. During the night of the 4th or morning of the 5th instant, settle person or persons broke and entered St. Michael's Church School, in the borough of St. Alban's, and the following pro- perty stolen therefrom, viz.: 17 yards of white Calico ; § }' yards of lilac Print ; three Cham ses ; seven linen Towels ; an Apron, unfinished ; a packet of glazed Thread ; two packets of Tape three gross of Steel Pens ; fifty Envelopes ; a ream of Note Paper ; several reels of coloured Cotton; a school Reward Medal, with the ' National School Depository ' one side, and ' Diligence and Good Conduct' on the other; and 220 papers of Needles, various numbers. Supposed to have been stolen on the night of the 2nd or 3rd instant, from a field in the parish of Mainstone, near Bishops Castle, the property of Mr. James Blockley, a bay Filly,' rising 2 years old, about 13 hands high, a star ' Constable's Office, ^ seWey.- BowWtreet, February 13 head, and tail cut short. He was seen near Dinasmowddwy, and supposed to be making his way to Newtown or Oswestry. Information to be given at the Chief Station, Bishops Castle, Salop.— Bow- street, February 9. Supposed to have been stolen on the night of thO> rd inst., from a field at Smethwick, in the parish of Harborne^ stafford- shire, the property of Mr. John Gosling, butcher, a light blown Horse, 4 years old, about 14 hands high, long mane and tail, and a white streak on the forehead ;^ so a dark brown Mare, about 14 hands high, long mane aJflrail, and a small white star on forehead, the property of the same John Gosling, they are both without shoes. Information to be given to Sergeant William Passey, Police Station, Smethwick.— Bow- street, February 9. Stolen from a meadow near the Three Locks, Soulbury, Bucks, on the night of the 5th instant, the property of Joseph Faulkner, an Irish brown Horse ( between a cart and nag), 5 years old, 15 hands 3 inches high, both hind feet white, Roman nose, large head, long tail and coat, has laid out nearly all the winter. A horse answering the description in every respect passed through Kilburn Gate for London at about 11- 30 a. m. on the 6th instant; he had on a halter, and a short young man, pale face, no whiskers, was riding the same with- out a saddle. Information to be given to Mr. Chief Superin- tendent Job Denson, Aylesbury, Bucks, or to Mr. Inspector W. Shepherd Linslade, Leighton Buzzard, Beds.— Bow- street, February 9. Supposed to have been stolen from Bryntalch, in the parish of Llandyssil, the property of William Alsop, nine Kerry Hill Wether Sheep ' J. LI.' on the left side, a dull mark on the rump. Information to be given at the Chief Con^ stable's Office, Newtown, Montgomeryshire.— Bow- st., Feb. 6. Supposed to have been stolen on the night of the 27th or 28th ultimo, from a field in the parish of H pe, county of Flint, three half- bred South Down Ewes, in lamb, the property of Mr. R. Dutton, Derby- park Farm. Also stolen, on the night of the 20th or 27th ultimo, from a field in the parish of Hope, four poss- bied Sheep, marked ' J. L.' on the rump with pitch, the property of Mr. Edward Tilsdale. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Thomas, Mold; Flintshire.— Bow- street, February 6. The boatman, THOMAS VAUGHAN, advertised in the Police Gazette of October and January last, is now in custody at Runcorn, on three charges of Horse Stealing. It is supposed that he is concerned in similar offences elsewhere, anil that he has been previously convicted of felony. Information to be given to Superintendent Andrews, Lymm, Cheshire.— Bow- st., February 13. Stolen, during the night of the 11th instant, from a stable at the Wilkes Head Inn, Llandyssul, the property of Mr. John James, a light bay Mare, 9 years of age, 14A hands high, small star on the forehead, high' shoulder, a little white on the off hind heel, strong mane, and switch tail. Information to be given to Mr. J. James, Wilkes Head, Llandyssul, Carmarthen. — Bow- street, February 13. Further information respecting the three Devon Steers stolen from Haitley Row, and advertised in the Police Gazette of the 8th December last. They are supposed to have been drawn away with a drove, either into Sussex or Surrey. A reward of £ 10 will be given on their recovery, if stolen, and the conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent W. Howard, Hants Constabulary, Aldershot.— Bow- street, February 13. MARY MILLIGAN, alias RUSSELL, alias MORGAN, wife of Peter Morgan, blacksmith, is charged with stealing Ribbons from a shop in the county of Dumfriesshire, at various times between the 30th of December, 1862, and 12th of Jan- uary, 1863. JONATHAN JONES, of Llanddewibrefi, Cardiganshire, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 29th August last and on the 5th of the following month, charged with tlorse stealing, and for whose apprehension a warrant has been issued, is still at large. He is of the following description: 51 years of age, 5' feet 10 inches high, straight and well built, swarthy com- plexion, black hair slightly mixed with grey, black whiskers, hair and whiskers bushy, small dark deeply- set eyes, has a lazy appearance, mostly always with his hands in his breeches pockets, speaks very bad English, although a labourer, very seldom works, likes small jobs, makes clogs from old shoes, about two years ago He led a stallion pony through different parts of Glamorganshire, where he is well known ; lie has been lately seen near Dowlais, in that county, and afterwards going in the direction of Rhymney, dressed in a light mixture cloth monkey jacket, cord breeches and leggings, black high- crowned hat, and a good pair of lace- up boots. He is charged with obtaining a quantity of goods under false pretences, from various tradesmen in the borough of Newcastle- upon- Tyne, viz.: a double- barrelled Gun, best quality, 30- inch barrels, ' No. 961' on the guard,: and ' To W. R. Fielden, rector of Kirk Langley, and represented himself to be connected with the Court of Chancery, producing a document purporting to be signed by Vice- Chancellor Stuart, authorizing him to enquire into the next of kin to the late Rev. John Ward, formerly rector of Kirk Langley; the reverend gentleman assisted him in accomplishing his pretended object, and suc- ceeded in finding out two men, the next of kin, to whom he administered two oaths, for which the reverend gentleman paid him 10s.; he also lent him an Inverness coat and an umbrella : it has since been ascertained that the man is an impostor, and will most likely be practising in a similar manner elsewhere. He is about, 32 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, ruddy com- plexion, light hair and whiskers, inclined to be sandy ; dressed in light vest and trousers, and is of gentlemanly appearance : he gave the name of JOHN COOPER, No. 11, Old- square, Lincoln's Inn, London. Further information respecting JOSEPH PHILLIPS, advertised in the Police Gazette of the J 9th ultimo, charged with compounding a felony, also with perjury : he is 55 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, brown hair and whiskers, slightly turning grey, sharp nose, red face, very much pock- marked, has a dissipated appearance, is of drunken habits, walks straight and quickly, and has been in the army; generally dressed in black or dark clothes, and has the appear- ance of a tramp : he will most likely be found at low public- houses or common lodging- houses. He is supposed to be travelling the country hawking a few needles, and soliciting small orders for nails. All police officers are particularly requested to make enquiries in their districts for the above person. About 1 a. m. on the 5tli instant, two game watchers, belonging to W. F. Bethell, Esq., at Rise, in the East Riding of Yorkshire, were violently assaulted by three poachers, in a field in the parish of Rise ; the poachers were armed with sticks, and had with them a black lurcher dog, with a feathered tail, which answers to the name of ' Bob.' One is about 40 years of age, 5 feet 11 inches high, dark whiskers meeting under the chin, and is supposed to be wounded on the right temple by a blow from the keeper ; dressed in a dark velveteen coat, cotton cord breeches, white fustian leggings, and dark hairy cap: the other two men appeared to be of low stature, fair complexions, and were dressed in dark caps, and fuetian clotiies. He states that he was a band master on board the Great Eastern steam ship, and subsequently in the royal navy, which he left about twelve months since. Description of ROBERT COATS, alias JONES, a shoe- maker, who is committed to take his trial at the ensuing Usk quarter sessions, on a charge of felony : he is about 36 years of age, 6 feet 4 inches high, proportionately made, sallow com- plexion, Roman nose, small dark whiskers, dark bi'own hair, grey eyes, rather bald on top of head, anchor and ' R. C.' tattooed on right arm, a dot on each finger of right hand, stated that he is a native of Brighton ; dressed in a brown tweed cloth jacket, pockets at the side, grey cloth vest, dark cord trousers, small plaid scarf, brown cloth cap with leather peak, dirty white apron, and cossack boots ; and from a card found in his possession which was issued at Boughton by the Cordwainera* Society, on the 21st August, 1862, it appears that since that date he has visited the following towns, where he has received relief, viz.: Liverpool 23rd August, Chester 24th October, Wrexham 28th October, Oswestry 4th November, Shrewsbury 5th November, Newtown 8th November, Welsh- pool 2nd December, Aberdare 8th December, Dowlais 10th De- cember, Neath 12th December. Supposed to have been stolen from the rack of a carrier's cart, whilst on the road between Woodbridge and Orford, in the county of Suffolk, on the evening of the 7th instant, a Deal Box, about 18 inches square and 8 inches deep, contain- ing the following articles of dirty linen : two calico Night- gowns, four calico Chemises, four pairs of calico Drawers, four pairs of white cotton Stockings, a white cotton Net, a Night- cap, nine white lawn Handkerchiefs, a Dessert Spoon, and six or eight French Books ; all the linen is large girl's size, and marked either ' Alice ' or ' Lucy Rope' in ink. Stolen from the dwelling- house of Jane Elliott,, Ouse- street, Goole, Yorkshire, between 12 p. m. on the 4th, and 7 a. m. on the 5th instant, the following articles, viz.: a black cloth Coat, half worn, the sleeves lined with red stuff; a pair of short Wellington Boots, nearly new, with ' Marshall, Boot and Shoe- maker, Goole,' stamped in front of each boot, near the top ; a Half- crown Piece ; a Florin ; 3s. 6d. in Silver ; a Halfpenny ; a steel Thimble ; a brass ditto ; and a small old fashioned Pen- knife, with white fiat bone handle, and the imitation of a bird impressed on one side. Supposed by a person of the following description who lodged at the house several nights previous, and decamped some time during the night of the robbery: about 26 or 27 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, small black whiskers and moustache, has a smiling expression of countenance, and talks very quickly ; dressed in a black cloth coat, light vest, tweed trousers, and porkpie hat, and very probably may be found wearing the stolen coat and boots. He represents himself as the American conjuror, and goes about public- houses shewing sleight- of- hand tricks with cards, iron rings, wooden eggs, & c., and when addressing a company at a public- house, he says, ' Gentmens, excuse me, I can't speak very good English, I am American ; allow me to show you some American tricks.' He is well known in Hull, Sheffield, and other towns in Yorkshire; it is very likely he may be found conjuring in London, or some of the neighbouring counties, as he went on board the steamer ' Contest,' of Goole, which plies between the port of Goole and London, some time during the night of the robbery, and applied to the captain for a passage to London, which was refused him. He has taken th silver spoons to Woolwich, where he said he could get a good price for them, leaving the forks with his companions, all o" whom are now in custody : he was to have returned to Chatham to meet them.
